1 : Stability fix – main reason I do not play anymore myself the stab changes made large scale WvW un-enjoyable. I get the reason why it was done, it just hasn’t solved the issue they had simply taken the old meta out and made everything about the pirate ship (standing back and dropping range AoEs)
2. A good none-EOTM inspired map or Alpine BL back. Its not that the desert BL is terrible it’s just an EOTM map not a borderlands map. When I WvW I hated eotm and stayed in WvW because of that. When you made desert BL you took that away and forced everyone into a crap map or EB, which is why EB in most tiers is always qued. SO when designing your next map think EB and Alpine NOT Edge of the mist.
3. Rewards – Either reward people for placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd or just reward participation but currently the lack of rewards well sucks. I could PvP or PvE farm for the same period of time as I WvW and would be much more rewarded. Add something similar to the PvP rewards track that rewards people toward a choosen goal as they WvW, or just add rewards for weekly ranking, make the PPT mean something. There should also be greater rewards depending on the length of the siege (for both sides), so a group who spent 4-5 hours straight taking a keep should be rewarded much higher than a karma train who just rolled it over. Same goes for the defenders in both situations the ones defending for 4-5 hours should be rewarded much higher over the few minutes they defended from the K-train.
4. GvG scene – Now I know obsidian was suppose to be this but well it sucks, there should be a system similar to GW1. Where guilds can setup times in which to compete with each-other in GvG settings. Whether its 10, 15 or 20 mans you should rooms setup for this and the capability for people to watch and stream these fights. You want people interested in PvP of GW2 this is the way to do it. This alone could do wonders to revive GW2 interest and get guilds back in game that have ‘retired’.
5. Scoring – The current PPT model sucks, it forces a constant siege creep and siege camping from servers who want to push PPT and a complaint from servers who want fights that there aren’t any. I would recommend a switch from this model of ‘point per tick’, to a more relevant points per cap and kill. While I don’t think the PPT mechanic should go I think it should be accompanied by a few other mechanics. First is there should be a base number of points for capping a structure, based on a number of variables; what is the structure? (camp, castle, keep…) and how long the structure is held, so a keep held for 2 days would be worth more than one held for 5 mins. Second is in addition to things being worth more as a capture when held longer, their ticks should go up. This will give you a purpose to smash into that keep that has been held since reset, or to go toe to toe at a fully upgraded SMC. Third would be to have variables attached to the points per kill mechanics, for example if you are fighting for SMC or any keep that is fully sieged the defenders have an advantage, so give the attackers an extra half a point per kill in a fully defensively sieged keep. This will give more incentive to fight against these siege behemoths rather than passing them over for less defended targets.

Since apparently I am the minority I WvW only, it is the only reason I find I actually log on and play GW2, aside from the occasional PvP match. WvW is the only fun game type and literally the ONLY reason I ever log on.

Thanks. I’ve been whispering with BATMAN in-game to compare his experience to the various graphs I can see. So far this is going way better than EU peak time, but he says there are a lot of disconnects. That would be a different problem – is anyone else seeing a lot of that in T1 NA?
When the FPS lag starts up and start rubber banding a bit is when I get DCs during NA play. Typically I will see the commander start to rubber band and than he will band into a wall and stay there. About 4-5 seconds later I get disconnected. I don’t think the issue is ISP related as TS3 and my video streaming neither lagged nor hiccuped only GW2.
Bluntski
NA side has been a bit rough around SEA prime time (9-10 am EST), than it goes down a bit until around NA prime-time (6pm – 9pm est), the lag sometimes goes on for a bit longer but these are the windows I tend to see it worst. It also seems to band back and forth I have seen anything from .5 second activation on skills up to 30 second activation. Another issue is increased disconnects during high periods of lag, when there are no connection issues on my end.

I have found two ways for Engi to fit very well into the meta atm. You have to adjust your expectations of the class and utilize it properly. I saw two but have listed a third which may or may not work better for you but doesn’t work well for me personally lol.
1. Probably my favorite build to fit into the meta, you focus around high survival and bombs with power, rather than condi. You can also stack healing pretty well with this. I tend to pick up a number of self and ally survival tools to help with as many blast finishers as I can fit on my bar. The basic goal is to drop bombs while stacked on pin, and provide support to allied melee with small bomb tick heals. The number of blasts in this build alone makes it perfect for the meta just a high skill curve. I use pistol shield over rifle in zergs for the block and additional blast finisher.
2. Heavy Grenade focus – This fits very well into pirate ship meta just need to have the health pool to make up for retal damage. Also choose to stack condi or power for your grenades, and adjust your build accordingly. I also tend to enjoy building this with HgH and slotting elixirs into my additional slots. This will give you additional group utility, and condition cleanse.
3* Bunker Flamethrower – I have a friend who plays this build and will speak the world of it, personally I cannot get it to work properly for me in zerg play so I stick to my bomb bunker. He is build with a combination of Valk/Knights/Sent to get a good balance of damage and survival, and he just goes to town with a flame thrower and blasts. Play similar to a D/D ele in the sense you dance on and off commander point rather than being stacked directly on.

It’s kind of sad anytime I hop into WvW in any borderlands after about 6pm est, its steady lag. Depending on how bad it spikes you won’t even see the things hitting you, only your health ticking away. The bigger issue though is depending on how bad the lag is it can take anywhere from .5 seconds to 5 seconds to just start an animation. This lag happens even if you are no where near a zerg, if there is a large fight happening on any BL or EB than it is lag for all maps….
Bluntski
The same could be said of WvW, you have the large zergs stacked on commanders, your solo roamers, and your havoc groups. So right there you have three different types of fights happening, on all different scales. You even have unofficial GvG’s which should be much more focused on (considering that is what made GW1 so popular with top guilds). They could actually compete in a fair impartial match, with room for people to watch the two guilds go head to head, the times were even set and posted some days so people knew when to go watch what. To me it seems like even as the game ages these modes of play are being ignored. This is only going to lead to more players leaving the game for ‘greener pastures’, while they throw band-aids at the issues rather than addressing them.
Having 5 alt accounts I have seen a larger perspective of WvW than most players, I have 2 accounts on JQ, one on DH, one on NPS, and another on EU, these were all gifted to me from players who have since left. I choose to move them around so I could try out WvW from different servers views (been on JQ since beta). I can say with certainty that the issues in NA from T1-6 are all different from tier to tier, and the issues in T1 NA are not necessarily the issues of T1 EU. So I still don’t understand how 1 forum specialist is suppose to cover all this info properly, half the issues aren’t even reported on the forums due to anet banning people when they do…..

I think this is definitely a step in the right direction toward getting your players input, from the players to the developers, I am slightly confused why there are 2 PvE (PVE general and fractals/dungeons), and 2 PvP. Yet there is only one WvW one, which makes you wonder why. WvW is by far the most expansive and in depth game mode that GW2 has. Requiring more player hours than any other aspect of the game, so why is it this game mode is being pushed to the back shelf again with only 1 forum specialist? Personally speaking I have played every aspect of this game and honestly WvW is the only aspect worth repeating over and over again due to the human factor, namely each opponent is different. This also creates a number of unique issues that have been present since launch, yet never addressed (food trolling, siege trolling, etc…) the list could go on and on for pages, but the bigger issue is why is WvW once again taking a back seat in development? Hell EOTM doesn’t even have a forum specialist and that’s a beast of its own with unique mechanics to WvW.

First off sPvP or tPvP in this game auto buffs you to 80 with all skills traits ect (with the exception of the new ones you still have to unlock them). Just make sure you go to heart of the mist in order to setup your char prior to jumping into a match.
For WvW leveling I would highly recommend eotm over WvW simply because of the greater exp and karma returns, but I also find it a much nicer environment to level in. That being said Ele is a great WvW class just like warrior is as well. For WvW just remembers GWEN (Guardian, Warrior, Ele, and Necro, current meta for WvW) and you will be set.
I actually have 9 different char’s for WvW and only 1 setup to do PVE (fotm) so its largely personal preference there, and how much time you want to put in leveling and gearing characters for specific things.

Wow this is real
Unbelievable. I’m so sorry JQ.
I am terribly sorry you all have to witness this, someone let Fear out of his cage a few weeks ago and we have yet to be able to get him back in. He got trolled off WvW maps a bit to hard in the past few weeks, so he has come here to force his mindless drivel on the masses. Once again I am SO sorry for Fear, we have sent retrieval teams after the escaped patient and hopefully we have him muzzled again shortly.

I personally am all for the change I have 2 legendaries and specifically didn’t craft the same one just in case something like this came along. Yes it sucks for everyone who crafted two legendaries or bought dual skins from the gem store to get matching pairs, but in the long run this will make the game more entertaining and a higher replay value. There is still a benefit to having two made legendary skins (you can switch the stats which is really the only benefit to the skin), where people just skinning wouldn’t have that, nor would they have matching stats on par unless they made an ascended. Overall I don’t see why so many people are angry over it, yes you should be compensated for your time and effort, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t go along with the change.

Hi guys I’m a new WvW Commander ( just bought it today ) and I’ve been in WvW for months beforehand so I know how this all works. And actually running a Zerg is tougher than I thought.
I plan on running my Guild ( CoSA ) in the upcoming Spring Tournament which is I think 4 days away? Point is I need to make sure I have some stuff 100% down before I start so give me a hand will you?
1. Is it alright to ask my Zerg if anyone else can drop Siege? Ex. Flame Rams because I run out here and there and I don’t know if that’s ok to ask. ( Zerg = Guild + Random people )
2. What’s the best Siege to carry? I run with Arrow Carts, Catapults, Flame Rams, and Trebuchets. That’s the essentials right?
3. How do you calm angry Zerglings? I be respectful and apologize for a mistake but if you mess up once some people just explode on you and it’s really moral dropping to be a Commander. know I’m new at Commanding but I try my hardest 100% 24/7 but one mistake will bring upon SF’s wrath on me :/ my mistakes are never intentional and are never ment to wreck someone else I’m just learning you know?
4. What does Claiming things do? I hear a lot of different things so I thought I’d just ask.
5. I don’t know about you but attacking keeps is one hard job to do! I mean no one defending it isn’t to bad but Jesus once a Zerg comes and defends it you are out of the game! Any advice?
6. So I have had small exposure to “Dual Commanding” where one Commander is on one side and the other ( me ) is in the opposite side is this a smart strategy of pushing for map domination?
7. Rally problems: So I pop my Tag and no other Commander is on and people come to me but I’ve had a problem once or twice where a person who cussed me out for my mistakes would alert the Zerg that I’m a bad Commander and new. People like me but it takes one person to say something and half my Zerg leaves me :| I know I’m in a high Rep WvW Guild but people just need to let me show them what I can do! Any advice?
Thanks guys for reading all this! I just needed some feedback on new Commanding! Zerging and being the Leader are very different roles! I’m sure ill get the hang of it but I have these present problems! My guild is expecting big things from me from this Tournament and I don’t plan on disappointing.
1. I typically ask them to send it or ask people I know are mastery to drop for me prevents you from having to cycle siege ect to get a master on
2. I tend to need everything on a regular basis but golems (more situational) and ballistas (only really used to take out siege).
3. Always keep a positive attitude, and never take blame for something you didnt do. On the opposite side though always take blame for something that is your fault (leading them off a cliff or into a blob you didnt realize was that large), this helps keep calmer heads and most people respect commanders who learn and admit their mistakes. Also try to incorporate their ideas that are good as this make people more invested in their commander.
4. Guild have buffs claiming things puts said buffs on the place claimed.
5. Make multiple sweep before taking a keep, and take out their defensive siege. The first time you get the outer defenses down DO NOT PUSH TO INNER sweep the whole outer kill all their siege. Keep rinse and repeating until most of its down than use outer walls and siege to take out their inner siege allowing for easy taking.
6. Dual pins are very effective if you can work and learn off each other, having two pins that arent getting along can be a disaster though.
7. Best bet is to ignore and not feed trolls. If someone is trolling your pinning just continue operating like usual, unless someone else brings it up than react accordingly. Get to know your trolls so you know who they are and what they are doing in a fight (i.e. not stacking, being 1500 range out ready to run ect…) Most trolls are the people who sit and do nothing while people fight and tend to be looked down on for it.
Just my 2 cent if you have any questions feel free to message me I am always happy to help other commanders as it makes the game stronger and better for everyone.
Bluntski
Simplest answer I can give is that it just isn’t as high a priority as other things we have been working on.
Why do you feel custom arenas do not work for those that want to duel?
Personally I find myself wanting to duel to test a particular roaming WvW build. The big issue with arenas is simply its a completely different game mode from WvW and PvE meaning diff gear, sets, food, and usually traits/weapons as the scaling has been changed.
Overall this leads to an extremely poor comparison for testing roaming builds in a controlled setting. The only real option this leaves to WvWers looking for duels is to go to the windmill and hope someone else is there from another server looking to do the same…overall just not fun or simple when trying to test and evaluate a build or decide a grudge match between friends.
EDIT: In order to answer whether this should be moved up we would need to know where i falls on the priority list. Currently I am sure people want to see Account bound EXP and commander changes before something like this, but does it rate higher than say the gate not visually showing up bug (not the teleport through gates/walls bug but the visibility one)? Could be but depends on whats ahead of it and what everything is tied too.

Proposal Overview
My proposal is to change ranger spirits to serve better usage in large scale combat. Currently Rangers lack a large scale build similar to every other class. This is a build that they can fit into the current zerging meta of WvW. The big issue atm is rangers simply do not provide enough group support to warrant bringing them over another class. The easiest way I see to address this is reworking their spirits into “Songs”. This would give the ranger better group support and make them more viable.
Goal of Proposal
After leveling ranger to 80 and playing it in WvW I realized a number of things people were saying about the class were true (amazing in small scale, peters off in havoc, and just not good in zergs or blobs except hey thats over 1200 get the ranger!). With this in mind I looked at how other games worked this type of class into the large scale meta. With this train of thought I looked at medium support classes and found “Bards” or “Battle Bards” to be the one thing really lacking in this game, with ranger being the class lacking a support build seems win-win.
Proposal Functionality
My proposal would require the reworking of certain utility skills to make them more viable group support, the two obvious options are the rangers “Shouts” and “Spirits” both are rather lack luster builds with shouts being buggy or not providing good unique support, and spirits just dropping dead right on the first Zerg vs. Zerg engagement. The utility skills chosen would be reworked into buffs which would add better synergization to groups i.e. with spirits they could simply be reworked into a click on click off buff for the group. This could be overpowered if they aren’t turned down a little though. With shouts this would be remarkably more difficult as new buffs would have to be come up with that aren’t to strong yet unique enough too make rangers a more prominent choice.
Associated Risks
This proposal is a drastic overhaul to ranger support and could not be undertaken without help from the CDI. I would like to see something similar happen to make rangers a much more viable class in large scale WvW, but given I have much less hours on this class than others I am not sure how to balance this change or even which buffs should be kept. I ask the more experienced rangers to toss this idea around and come up with some workable skills. Overall I would really like to see this class become stronger as its rather lack luster now in large scale.
Bluntski

75% of the fun in competitive games is the ‘smack-talk’ if you will. If you aren’t talking kitten than you don’t mean bull kitten, that’s the way its been since competitive games have existed. You talk smack to get to know your opponents and to also bring more entertainment to the match-up. It is a shame A-net and other players aren’t more thick skinned to take a few joke.
R.I.P. – Match-up thread – You really livened up my days at work oh the hours I spent watching forum warriors fling poo its a shame really, good thing there are third party forums!

What is the best profession to lead as a commander?
I have Warrior, Guardian, and Engineer as the three I can’t decide between. They all offer something to the party, so I was wondering if I had missed something that would make one preferred to the other.
Any one of those three can be built to survive in the front lines, it all depends on how you want to survive in the front lines.
Warrior – More the solo survivor requires very little to live in the zerg besides proper gear and utilities, there is also the option of support based play with shout builds so there are more options for a warrior to survive pinned than most others. I tend to pin up on my warrior when leading militia around as I need to be able to charge into the fray and survive long enough for the militia to overcome their fear of death and push in.
Guardian – The group support heavy and one of the best commanders for heavy group play focus. With shouts they buff their allies tremendously and increase their and your personal survival, the issue is you need allies to buff to get the heals to increase personal survival, the guardian shout build can also be easily switched to a solo survivable meditate build, or other variations of boon sharing. With reflects and/or weapon heals this is a very good pin choice for guild group play and synergy. Cannot forget tome of courage either which is a heal spamming elite.
Engineer – A lot of people don’t feel engi’s offer the same survival as other classes, and while somewhat true, there are a number of specs which offer incredible survival and group support, most revolving around turrets and blasting fields. When you throw in bomb heals you have a very nice key stone for group play and a very good commanding class. The only issue with engi is they have a much higher skill curve and make pinning on it harder if the class and spec aren’t second nature to the user.
Overall any is really good and can make a good pin I would personally recommend whichever of the three you are most comfortable and most leveled Wexp wise because its going to give you the best return when pinned. Hope this helps answer your questions!

I don’t feel its useless I feel its under used, and mostly because of the way it is designed. If you don’t feel that way that’s fine, but I know a number of people do and the TP price alone should be enough to show Anet there is an issue.

Lately in WvW I feel every siege weapon has gotten some love and in some cases a much needed or over done buff. The only piece of siege I feel is really lacking is the ballista, which is arguably the most useless piece of siege in the game (minus a few choice spots where the ballista is needed and very clutch obviously). To remedy this I was brainstorming a few ideas with some friends.
1. Make Ballistas movable – Not the same speed as a player mind you maybe not even full range of motion, but they should be able to shift up or back a few feet and turn.
2. Replace Spread Shot – I would recommend an anti siege AOE attack, this is after THE anti-siege siege is it not? So why only have a single attack that does bonus damage to siege? Even if you keep it please make it based on a target currently it is only useful on level ground, to high or to low and it just completely misses the area just laughable.
3. Projectile – Please fix the projectile currently many things that do not appear to obstruct the shot do, which is why this is the cheapest siege on TP and most prevalent in peoples banks. As a commander I have almost 5 stacks of Ballistas but maybe 50 of my next highest siege, this is simply because there is no use for a ballista currently.
Bluntski
1) Better Alt support in WvW (Account bound WvW ranks)
2) Higher AoE cap (No reason siege should be 50 people but a person is only 5…)
3) Better commander icon support and control, diff colors, shown only to guild ect…

Not going to comment on other servers, but the JQ reset que isnt long at all the longest I have ever waited was 45 minutes because I was dead set on doing EB that particular reset. Otherwise I wait at most 20 minutes and that’s logging in after reset has been going for 30 minutes to and an hour. The BLs obviously change slightly depending on who we are facing which BL, what guild assigned where ect, so the average would be about 10-20 minutes.
Bluntski
It isn’t a ‘legit question’.
To me, Red and green are nothing like each other. OTOH shades of blue and green have always been a bit difficult to tell apart. Eyes differ from person to person and being colour-blind isn’t a yes/no matter.
The colours on a CRT or LED screen are a manufactured standard Red, Blue, Green to match the spectral response of a ‘normal’ human eye. That makes the three primaries the most clearly distinguishable colours for most people.
Using a different set to accommodate people with a disability would be like removing all stairs everywhere and replacing them with wheelchair ramps.
If someone has a disability that’s tough but it’s no reason why everyone else should have to share in it.
No one is saying change the system. People with a disability (which is actually extremely common on various levels in men) are asking for a setting they can turn on to better accommodate them in the game they play and enjoy. No one is infringing on your game play please take your hate elsewhere.
On a serious note is this even something the dev’s considered? Simply adding a setting for people who are color blind to better alert them to things they may miss in game, due to not properly seeing colors.

I have a friend who plays this and is almost fully color blind he regularly complains about how hard this game is compared to other games that have implemented a color blind mode (WoW, Rift, or Swtor to name a few). With such lack luster games putting this into play (a number of months after launch) I can only hope A-net pulls their heads out of their kittens and gets to work on this.

They have given no logical reason as to why they want you to grind WvW rank on mutiple characters considering the max level progressions is around 900 levels (largest level accoutrement in game) it is silly.
Hell Spvp only goes up to rank 100 and is account bound…Yet the Anet devs just say ‘NO’ and expect that to be that. They haven’t gotten yet that if you want people to continue playing a video game you have to give them what they want, within reason of course.
Bluntski
The WvW political climate has switched, JQ SEA focuses SoR now because of IRON trolls and other antics from SoR.
JQ and SoR did support one another at this time, but it is gone.
IRON has become a liability to SoR.
Whats funny is that by doing it Waha completely denies JQ the chance of winning the match up.
This is something I do not understand either. By 2vs1 BG, JQ would have a great chance at winning.
Waha is not denying JQ anything. ATM is doing the same thing that IRON can do to us. Nothing wrong with that on either side. SoR only targeting JQ is stopping us from having the chance to win. It is also stopping them at having a chance for the win as well.
You know that what JQ SEA is doing and what IRON are doing are completely different. JQ + BG are working together in tells to attain a 2v1 on SoR. IRON goes 1v1 against JQ in the time slot to make them pay for collusion until the matchup is back to 1v1v1 with 2v1’s relative to map dynamics on that specific map. Coordinating with other servers is cheese tactics, everytime ICoa would whisper WARD to 2v1 SoR on a map we would walk over and sucker punch ICoa straight in the mouth.
Anyways, the fights have been good this week. Maybe next week we can go back to the 1v1v1 and other time zones actually fight each other.
Maybe you missed the whole IRON acting like 5 year olds flooding Waha’s inbox with in game mails, though this expression of nerd rage was rather hilarious to me, it was disrespectful to a respected member of our community, I know that may not make much sense to you since you abandon any community you join but to some of us that actually matters. Hence the immense double team you are feeling.
If you want it to stop MAYBE ask IRON to stop kitten ing off and disrespecting Waha every time they get face rolled, rather than simply trying to wipe him in the field they choose to try and aggravate him out of the game just lawls…..so much kitten there idk where to start….

I wish they would make this account bound for example I have 6 80s and 4 pins, but I am consistently limited to playing the character I want to grind WvW rank. It is a bit silly that prior to the implementation of this WvW rank I played every char in WvW but now their is no point. With all the account bound things in this game you would think 9000 WvW ranks would be among them but no….
Overall I see this impairing peoples ability to continue playing the game, for example if I get bored of my Warrior now I log off because their is no point logging onto another toon to just have to start over and grind WvW rank again. I would much rather go play another game that rewards me for playing rather than which particular character I choose to play that day.
To me this mechanic is stagnant and old, in Spvp do you have to regrind rank on each char? Certainly not that wouldn’t make sense to have to regrind something up 100 levels. So how does it make sense to ask WvWers to grind another 9000 to hit cap on a toon they want to play in WvW? It doesn’t at all, and while the bonuses may be small they add up over a couple hundred levels to being quite significant.
I don’t even think Anet will bother to change this though, even though the majority of the player base is crying out for it, they simply cannot be bothered…

Welcome to all the new guilds over the past month, I hope you are finding JQ to be the home you were looking for.
To any guilds looking for a WvW oriented home JQ is the place to be, their are people in the field 24/7 slightly less during off hours, but overall the community is great and continues to work towards united goals.

I haven’t posted in this match-up thread mostly due to childish troll attempts (really some of you kids need to go back to trolling school) but as this match-up is coming to a close, I wanted to take a minute to compliment the people actually out in the field for FA and Mag. Overall the fights have been very fun I must say and I have enjoyed them for the most part. Though I wish WvW wasn’t as much about coverage as it was about skill in the field, than I feel this match probably would have better reflected the determination and guts of FA and Mag.
I know from BG and SoR lately, and the old SoS and HoD days that being the under dog is not easy, and the fact you guys keep coming out night after night really shows your tenacity, so to you WvWers I salute you, it has been an honor fighting you in the field. To the keyboard cowboys and forum warriors, enjoy your 24 pages of kitten flexing, and please get some troll skills I would like to see some actual trolling not kids flinging poo on the playground…

Congrats to JQ on their victory. The question now is, who will win second place? My money is on FA (by Money i mean 10silver, yes im poor)
Yeah gratz to JQ. I think the real question is, can EMP can come out from behind their zergs skirts and GvG NS. I’m not in that guild but I know I want to see the fight.
I don’t think EMP does GvGs
EMP figures so prominently in these forums. Are they the best guild on JQ, skill-wise?
We never claimed that, and we have a total of 3 members who visit the forms so hardly prominent, but all of JQs WvW guilds are quite skilled in their way and each is unique so to say one is better than the other is like saying apples are better than oranges. It is a matter of personal opinion, but personally I think of it as a balanced diet, each guild is unique and brings something to the table that makes JQ shine in WvW and as a community. No guild can stand as one its only when we come together as a server that we achieve great things.
