I want greatswords, even though they don’t make sense. When I first got the game, I didn’t want the frail, minion summoning type necro; I wanted gothic plate mail, greatsword wielding necro that commands and feasts on the blood of his enemies on the front lines.

That being said, pistols are a nu-uh.

Can someone explain the mystic forge to me like I don’t speak English? I do not find myself to be one of the players adventurous enough to just go for it, nor one of the ones rich enough that I can just throw whatever I want into it.

Is the Forge good for anything but creating the legendaries?
If I put in 4 green daggers, do I have a chance for an exotic? Is it a decent enough chance that I should do that instead of vendoring?
Whats WORTH doing in the Forge, as far as the ‘gamble’ factor?

This has happened to me 3 times now, and I’m not completely sure if its working as intended or not, but if you are reduced to exactly 0 health, you are not put into a downed state, but continue fighting as normal.

That being said, one more hit still puts you into downed state, but just a heads up if you guys wanted 0 health to be… well 0 health :P

I am Ash Legion. I use cunning to overcome my enemies. The Ash Legion teaches stealth and subterfuge. We end battles before they begin with infiltration, information gathering, and precision strikes.

On that note, I also have a low level Blood character as well, so I can see the Blood Legion story. It shocked me when I saw that in the Blood Legion storyline, you 'left your warband to die' when fighting the Duke, while in the Ash Legion, you get your promotion immediately and end up defending the tribune.

Is Necromancer good/viable for PvE?

My experience, as a well focused necro that specced full into the Death/Blood trait lines for toughness and health, is that I can PvE very well. I can kill 3-4 mobs almost as fast as I can kill a single mob, and anything short of chain knockdowns has a very hard time bringing ME down.

The other side of that is, that while I can kill 3-4 mobs as easy as 1 mob…. my damage is overall pathetic, and a lot of it turns into a ‘battle of attrition’. Think of it more like your outlasting the enemies, not killing them.

I have a level 80 charr necormancer and 1v1, it takes boss level mobs or powerful champion ones to kill me.

Personally, I think a good comparison lies here. Compare this video from Dragon Age: Origins to the scene in The Battle of Claw island.

Ignoring the actual content of the video, what do you find engaging about it? Well, for one, the music in the background perfectly compliments the dark, foreboding atmosphere, while during the charge, you get the awesome Dragon Age ‘hopeful’ overture.

There is nothing nearly this environmentally immersive in the Battle of Claw Island. Maybe my game glitched and didn’t play the music or something, but I heard no music as I played through the battle. During the character dialuages, there was absolutely no indication that ‘Hey, were are fighting for our LIVES right now to retake this island’. Nope, they could have been sitting around a table drinking tea and you wouldn’t have noticed the difference. You couldn’t hear the background din of swords clashing against shields, of the catapults firing, none of it. Nor does your characters or Treas OR the other NPCs emotions reflect this; they are fighting in a battle for life and death, but are they out of breath? Do they have to shout in order to be heard over the noise of the battle? Nope! The characters look exactly the same as they always do too. Never any wounds, never any gore splattered armor. Hell, the only time I think I ever saw any NPC reacting to what happened outside of the scene was in the final scene where you have to cleanse Orr, and Trea is kinda slumped over in the classic ‘Im exhausted’ pose.

Do I expect an MMO to be on the same level as a Single Player RPG like Dragon Age? No, its a different type of game, aimed at a different type of content, for a different type of gamer. However, there are just certain things that draw you into a storyline, or into a world, or into a scene that are just… missing. Which is a complete shame given the amount of well written lore and history there is written up for GW2.

I personally experienced a different bug with this story step; when the cleansing ritual was being worked, I was killing the first ‘wave’ of risen. I have a vit/toughness spec, so I don’t do a ton of damage, but before I had killed the first two waves, the cinematic started for Trea failing the ritual, which included the NPC (I forget his name) that comes back after the two guards are overrun, and yet he came back after I got to the appropriate wave, and they acted like he just got there.

A tempting offer, a tempting offer indeed.

However, as a condition, I demand that we bulldoze the Pale Tree and replace it with a weapons research facility. Surely, all that ‘pretty’ space could be turned into something pretty useful. Also, the amount of lumber we could get from the Pale Tree would fuel the smelters for a good year.

I’m not too sure if this is a bug or not, but I just played through this mission. We had to get the tanks from the docks with the Pale Reavers. The Pale Reavers made this mission…. not even a mission. The squad of 6 or 7 of them managed to drop not one, but TWO veteran risen giants in less than 30 seconds, and they insta-blew up most regular mobs, along with cleared out the big group for the objective ‘clear the south road’ in less than 15 seconds. I dunno if this was intended, or if when coding someone added an extra 0 to their Power Stat.

There is a 1.0 second global cooldown for the skills in Plague Form. If you are setting one skill to auto-attack and then trying to use a different one, what may be happening is that you cancel your auto-attack skill which delays the casting of the next one.

Dunno how to properly quote, but anyways, the change in cooldown while in plague form was affected even when not switching skills. I will notice it even if the same skill is on autoattack the entire time, again without any conditions that affect skill cast times.

Im curious if anyone else has noticed this. Because of my not so great internet and not so great computer, Im not sure if this is lag or not…

When using Plague form, the tooltips on your three abilities do not have a cooldown listed. When setting one attack or another to autoattack, there is sometimes a noticable difference in the amount of time each attack is on cooldown. I have made sure that no condition that affects my cooldowns is currently on me, and it still seems like the attacks have ‘variable’ cooldowns, from about 1 second to maybe 2 seconds.

I saw that red response. I just don’t think it answered the question. The question was why this specific class was not addressed at all. The answer in that particular thread was a general thank you for helping keep things organized, along with a reassurance that thing were being worked on. I simply asked why we didn’t get anything THIS particular time around.

Not flaming, just asking. Has it been decided that the specific bugs/issues that affect the necromancer requires more than just a ‘few quick bug fixes’, thus making it so we didn’t make it into this update, which seems to be primarily number fixes?

I play with a tank spec very well. Full death/blood spec with 10 in curses for the chill on blind (currently bugged, but when its fixed). I don’t do a lot of damage, but I am tough as hell to kill, I have tons of AOE control, and condition control.

Also, there may not be such thing as a tank because you can’t pull agro, you CAN initiate the fight so you get agro to start with. Ive noticed that as long as your not kiting or moving in and out of attack range, the mobs tend to stay focused on whatever target they attack first.

Thats for PvE though. In PvP you just have to make it so that while your not the biggest DPS threat, you make the job of killing other players 10x harder.

They are probably slightly under 6 feet tall. They seem really big because of the width of their shoulders, but the digitgrade feet actually take off several inches of height.

My opinion: the Black Citadel is so bad to explore.

I would just like to point out I think the tooltip on the regeneration when you reach 90% health is bugged. I play a necro that takes the toughness/vitality lines and I notice that this trait activates SEVERAL times during my fights. I think its meant to say whenever health is below 90% you gain the regeneration for x seconds on an x cooldown.

I love the four legged running. The charr bone structure is designed for it, what with the digitgrade legs keeping their arms and legs at a similar length. Also, being top heavy like they are shows the same thing.

But I love the animation. My guild is even called Four on the Floor [PAWS] to represent such awesome running

I do fine with my Necro. I run a pure toughness/vitality build with a bit of precision. I don’t do a lot of damage, butkittenI’m a damage soak like you wouldn’t believe. With the traits and skills I have, I have over 25 seconds of damage negation through blinds, my dagger life siphon gives me about 2k health overall, I have an EXTRA life bar in my soul shroud, I do AOE damage with vulnerability, AOE heals for about 7k to myself and half that to everyone else, an aoe stun, an aoe cripple, a single target immobilize, and a per target heal that gives me about 400 health per enemy around me and passively makes me move faster.

I dunno what your problem is. I don’t do as much damage as other classes, but I also don’t see other classes survive nearly as well as I do.

No they don’t, the design of them not being very tall is fine. Their legs are digigrade, so a lot of the height goes into the curve of their paws and the way they stand. They are fine.

Just tried this and I had the same problem, although I managed to clear all the undead out of the ‘stuck area’. The NPCs would go and fight the undead, but after that they would run back into the rock wall and refuse to move from there. Two of them were following, but the rest were ‘stuck’.

This is working as intended, sadly. Currently, event participation is measured in DPS. If you don’t do a certain amount of DPS, then you are considered ‘no participation’. It is to prevent people from just leaching off the event by being in the event area and not doing anything.

It sucks, yeah, but we have to wait for ANet to come up with a system that includes other actions than attacks, such as healing teammates, inflicting conditions, ect.

People are convinced necro's are terrible. What to reroll?

I mostly solo, but a necro is a ridiculous support class that can also hold its own in damage AND serve as a good damage soak, and certain skill setups give it a pretty good AOE nuke.

I haven’t experimented with it yet, but I was looking at one of the curse traits that allows you to ground target your wells. Throw a staff on that and, well, you’ve got yourself a hell of a support necro. AOE blinds, AOE conditions → boons, AOE damage, AOE heal, AOE chill, AOE bleed/regen, AOE fear, and a piercing attack to boot, not to mention your plague cloud which is 20 seconds of perma blind….

You should be able to apply dyes to your fur…. and similar such things for other races.

I haven’t tried this in PvP yet, but I feel I have a pretty good build. Its not based so much on outdamaging the enemy as out surviving them. I siphon health like you wouldn’t believe, have as much toughness and vitality as I can get, have 25 (yes, 25!) seconds of blind that causes chill for EACH blind, and have massive AOE control with my wells. And if it hits the fan, then I have death shroud to not only do damage, but to wait for my cooldowns to come back.

Working as intended. Participation is calculated by the amount of damage you do to the dragon. If you didn’t do enough percentage of damage, then it wont give you bronze/silver/gold. It sucks, I know, as there are more ways of participating that just doing damage, but thats what the system is right now.

Hop onto one of the turrets or mortars. EASY gold level participation.

I play myself as a sort of conditionomancer, with lots of AOE, but I have my traits specced for full tank: Max toughness and as much vitality as I can. With the traits and weapons I use (dagger/warhorn) along with my skills, I am VERY hard to kill, while at the same time being very annoying. I use Well of Healing, Well of Suffering, while my next two skills are a little situational, and my last being plague cloud. I get protection and retaliation when I cast a well, and healing is very effective on me, not to mention I siphon every hit and can use my daggers siphon ability… Like I said, tough to kill. Not sure how it would work PvP though, because the build would be vulnerable to someone keeping lots of poison up.

I use Dagger/Warhorn personally. I’m making a toughness/vitality based necro with lots of lifesteal and lots of conditions. I tend to use this when Im doing solo, and my secondary is a staff, mostly used for large groups of monsters or in large events so the multiple other players can combo off the effects

While I don’t feel the pain because I chose a different necromancer build, my build does include the death magic route and that gives the little spawning bone minion. I do agree that it is completely worthless. Its down to half health from its degen before its even fully spawned, and then dead before it gets to the actual enemy half the time.

Change it so that it doesn’t lose health until its fully spawned, then give it a timer, not a degen, of say 10 seconds? That would actually make it at least a little bit useful. Also, perhaps a Major trait could be that for every minion on the field, each minion gains X% toughness and X% power or something.
