~ Among the Ashes [Dust] ~
With the changes I thought to return to how I used to play my engineer and go with conditions (I always found it more enjoyable). With that in mind I went with a full Sinister armor/weapon set but I’ve been going back and forth on the trinkets.
I was contemplating going with Rampager’s trinkets for the increased crit chance. I threw it all down on IntoTheMists so here’s what I currently have equipped.
Thoughts from the community?
I don’t know who this guy is. I don’t know where he’s hiding. Wherever that may be, he has got ungodly sniping skills. People are just dying left and right in Lion’s Arch to this phantom.
Standing at the bank? Bang!
Moving along through Troll’s Revenge? Bang!
Perhaps enjoying the sights from atop the Lighthouse? Bang!
We thought to escape his wrath while remaining in this wonderfully rebuilt city four of us did. We retreated high into the sky. We stood atop the Aerodrome and gazed out at the city below. Bang! Even at this height, he managed to find us.
I would love to have that be the pet selection menu. That and making pet names permanent instead of going back to “Juvenile -insert pet type here-” every time I change which two I have active would be fantastic.
Thanks for the clarification. At least I know it’s intended now.
I don’t know if this is a bug, or if it’s intended feature. I haven’t found anything on it on the wiki, or with a quick forum search here, or a search through google.
What happens is that I’ll Advertise in the Looking For Group tool what I am looking for, and I’ll proceed to go about my other business while I wait for people to join the group. However, after say 5 minutes, if no one has joined the party, I’ll get removed from the Looking For Group tool, and it’ll tell me I’m no longer in the party.
After this happens 3 times, I can no longer set up a group because I’ve been suppressed for excessive messaging. That’s 3 party searches over 15 minutes. So first, why is the LFG Tool removing my party without my say so or anyone even joining me. And second, how is that excessive messaging?
So I’ll put this out there first. I am not good at PvP. I am not bad, but I am certainly not good. I’m the average player. I don’t run with a dedicated PvP group, nor am I a part of a PvP oriented guild. I queue up and pug when I do take the time to run PvP in this game.
I thought I’d give this new mode a try while it was available. I must say, I found it quite enjoyable, but it certainly needs work. So I thought I’d come along and throw out the average guy suggestions and feedback.
The Spawns
The NPC’s
These need to be buffed, across the board. The Guards at the first gate go down in seconds, the Veteran Guards at the second gate go down almost as quickly. The “Elite” NPC’s with the Lord do very little damage, attack slowly, and and have nearly the same health as the Veteran Guards. The Lord himself has no ranged capabilities and can easily be kited around until dead.
As I mentioned, I am not good at PvP. Yet I was able to solo the Guards, the Veteran Guards, the Elite NPC’s, have 3 players show up, and dodge roll around while solo’ing the Lord all in a single Bomber spawn from the start. That could be a measure of those players, or an indication that the NPC’s are far too squishy. I like to imagine it’s the latter.
Overall
I played 23 games of Stronghold. I went 22-1, which I must say is just about the best I’ve ever done in PvP. In those 23 games I played matches where we just zerged the Lord right out of the gate. I played matches that lasted nearly the entire time limit as both teams went back and forth. I played ones where people assumed positions and ran supplies, called for defense, alerted the team when in need of offensive help. I even played one where my team did nothing but farm the other team in the middle of the map because as they put it “It’s more fun”.
Regardless of how it was played, the issues I noticed revolved around the NPC’s and the spawns. I like the map, I like the style of Stronghold. I hope to play more of it, and I hope you add additional Stronghold maps.
Thanks for the fun.

Drop the Rendering to Native. I was having this identical issue and haven’t had it since I lowered the Rendering setting.
So when I stopped playing Guild Wars 2 back in January of 2013, I had 3 characters who had finished their Personal Story and killed Zhaitan, and a 4th on the kill Zhaitan step. Upon returning to the game I looked through the Personal Journal a bit and noticed something odd about Chapter 8 – Victory or Death – on one of my characters. At the conclusion where it is supposed to go:
-The Source of Orr-
-Victory or Death-
It instead says
-The Source of Orr-
-Temple of the Forgotten God- <—- This is the very first part of Chapter 8, and appears first as well. They didn’t swap, it just shows this twice.
I swapped to the other 2 that had finished the story and the one on Zhaitan, and the bug is the same across all of the characters. So I looked around and found that you had revised the Personal Story at one point, then reverted it back to what it had been. Though having done that shouldn’t have had any effect on the final step of the Personal Story.
Here’s a screenshot from each of the characters to show the apparent issue.
So the last time I played this game was about 2 weeks after the release of Southsun Cove. Yes, it’s been since January of 2013 since I last played Guild Wars 2. Though recently some acquaintances of mine mentioned that they still play this game, to varying degrees of activity. They convinced me to give the game another go and so here I am. The issue is, I haven’t got a clue where to go or what to do. So to expedite the matter here’s the juicy bits on where I was when I stopped playing, and what I have available to me.
The following characters all completed the Story prior to my departure.
Character 1 - Thief
Carrion Emblazoned Armor - Superior Rune of the Afflicted 6/6
Royal Ascalonian Dagger x2 - Superior Sigil of Agony / Superior Sigil of Corruption
Rampager’s Ebon Vanguard Shortbow - Superior Sigil of Venom
Rampager’s Ebon Vanguard Pistol x2 - Superior Sigil of Agony / Major Sigil of Corruption
Chrysocola Orichalcum Ring x2 - Exquisite Chrysocola Jewel
Chrysocola Orichalcum Earring x2 - Exquisite Chrysocola Jewel
Chrysocola Orichalcum Amulet - Exquisite Chrysocola Jewel
Rampager’s Spineguard - Exquisite Coral Jewel
This character was built as a Condition Thief that I was occasionally running WvW with or just farming in general. I just don’t know what to do with her right now. I listed the equipment because at the time she was my main and I devoted most of my playtime here.
Character 2 - Ranger
This was my initial character, though I found Rangers at the time to be a complete joke and gave up on the character. Though upon being told I should return I was given to believe that this has changed.
Character 3 - Warrior
I wanted to hit hard.
Character 4 - Engineer
It looked extremely fun. It was.
This last character did not complete the story, though she is 80.
Character 5 - Mesmer
I… got bored?
So I wanted to be more descriptive of each character but I felt that would be too excessive. The point is, I don’t know what each character’s ideal, or at the least most efficient, build would be at this point. I intend to run mostly PvE, with maybe an occasional Dungeon.
Any help that could be offered would be greatly appreciated.
So I just got back from a rather lengthy hiatus following Christmas, after I was told about this Living Story content and I should check it out. So I log in and I can’t find anything to do with it. So I go and look up Flame and Frost and I see it only lasted until, as my luck would have it, today.
Does this mean all the related content, the quests, the NPC’s, all of it, is gone?
Now that would just bug the crap out of me and return me to my hiatus. I can understand Holiday content only being around for the Holiday time. I can understand the big one time events being around; like the release of Southsun Cove, because after the event to go there, the content of the island was still in game and could be explored. But a whole story of the game, with events and NPC’s and new, albeit small, areas just vanishing after a period of time, is just poor design.
I could be mistaken in this however and I can still take part in at least some of the content but it doesn’t seem that way. So as the topic says, can someone add a bit of clarity to this?
So I took off for a week or so, and was wondering if they’d done anything about the cogs and such or are these 200 still useless after making the 3rd pet?
Also, is the unbreakable bell only in the giant gifts (aside from the mysterious gift)? I have a metric ton of ugly wool stuff and wasn’t sure if I should get all small gifts.
There is a lot to do on the way to 80, there is very little to do in terms of PvE once you reach 80 though.
Leveling an alt is a nice way to spend more time with the game, learning a new class and playing a different way. But eventually you level enough of them and even the earlier content gets repetitive and dull.
So that leaves doing either WvW or PvP. If you’re a player that lacks any sort of interest in that form of play, you are again stuck with very little incentive to actually log on and do anything.
Can you provide specific examples of non-soloable events? At scale 1, they’re all soloable, or should be. Are other players in the area scaling up the event without helping?
What scale are the dragons supposed to be? Because I can solo Tequatl the Sunless, but none of the other two. Sure it takes a lot of time to get him down, but I have done it.
The Shatterer used to be soloable just by mortar spamming him alone, but they changed him and that doesn’t work anymore.
Anyone with a bow can solo the Claw of Jormag. It will take forever and a day but you can do it.
I think a lot of people in this thread are missing the point. A number of you are referring to [Group Events] being too hard to solo. They aren’t supposed to be done alone, that’s why they are called [Group Events].
The point is the events that are not labeled as a [Group Event] being nigh impossible to solo. Those are the ones that Jeffrey Vaughn is referring to.
Swap them. The CoE weapons have the Dark Glyphic icons but the SE weapons have the Dark Glyphic Skins and Vice-Versa. They have the opposite Icons.
Can you provide specific examples of non-soloable events? At scale 1, they’re all soloable, or should be. Are other players in the area scaling up the event without helping?
A perfect example of an event that is not labeled as a [Group Event] but can’t be done solo is the event in Malchor’s Leap to retake the Eastern Colonnade.
The problem with it is in the mob respawn frequency and the sheer number of the mobs present.
Now I wouldn’t have a problem with this event if it were labeled as a [Group Event], but since it’s not, the difficulty scale of it is way too high.
I have to agree. All the build calculators out there focus on PvP rather then PvE/WvW. Not one of them allows you to put in PvE gear and try different set-ups for different outcomes.
None of them are quicker for me. With a decent group at Toypocalypse, I can get 2-4 Personal Gifts + 5-9 Giant Gifts in under half an hour without waypoint cost. The only thing that matches the personal gift rate is the bell choir, and that doesn’t give Giants. Running around a zone has travel costs or takes a lot longer.
People don’t all play the same.
I’m playing it. It’s the best way to get giftboxes for stuffing and glue. Those are pretty expensive on the TP right now.
Or running around any zone for 5 minutes….or doing the JP….or turning in ugly wool clothing. All three of those options are quicker, and easier.
Or you know we’re making a logical leap based on anet’s track record with taking away things that hurt their gem sales. Couldn’t be that. But keep whining about people whining, it shows a lot of character to sit here with a holier than thou attitude while doing exactly what you’re complaining about. Two thumbs up.
Anet’s track record as you see it, but not as a whole. You see only the bad and so you feel you are justified in your complaints, whereas someone like unspecified here shows there is also things that say otherwise.
No confusion at all. You did it so we’d buy keys instead of trade for them. I know. So does everyone else.
Gotta make money somehow, I guess.
Really? You absolutely need those BL Keys during the Wintersday event? You can’t just, oh I dunno….wait?
Wooosh. How’s that breeze feel?
@SteepledHat, you are most likely correct. I bet they removed the keys or upped the price on them. I still can’t remember the last time I’ve even seen a key drop.
Feels pretty good. You people are simply assuming the worst prior to any confirmation of her getting rid of the Black Lion Keys. You really should just settle down.
But than, whiners are gonna whine. It was the same, and probably still is, over on the WoW Achievement Sub-Forums. I swear, every holiday those forums exploded with whiners and haters looking to vent on how they “can’t do this” or “can’t do that” or how “that’s unfair”. Really, I sometimes wonder if the helpfulness of Holiday sub-forums outweighs the massive level of whine kitten they generate.
Now do I think that everything about the events has been done right, or handled properly? No, but my life doesn’t end simply because an event in a game didn’t go the way I wanted, and so I see no reason to kitten and moan about it everyday.
I was just coming here to make such a thread. I am in complete agreement with the above. We could really use, and would appreciate, this.
We do not have an ETA on when Lyns will be accepting commendations. To clarify about timing: this will not happen during Wintersday, but in a future game update. Sorry about the confusion, everyone, and thank you for your patience.

It’s too long, with no reward (those gift boxes are the same things you can get with 5 minutes of effort in any zone). There is no reason to do it after getting the achievements and most people already got them I’d assume either the first day or after they patched it to make it easier.
It’s probably to upgrade the snowflake to the next level, like with other mats? Try dust and a philosopher’s stone?
I tried that as well, no luck.
We got the achievement on our very first attempt at Toypocalypse. Everyone messed around the first wave while we figured stuff out.
Now, I will acknowledge that most groups simply will not come together and click like that, but it is a possibility.
Can anyone fill me in on what the other 2 materials are to put in with the Snowflakes? You can put in -
Tiny & Delicate
Delicate & Glittering
Glittering & Unique
Unique & Pristine
Pristine & Flawless
I just can’t find what to put in the forge with them. I’ve tried T6 mats, Ecto’s, Mystic Coins, Lodestones & Cores, all of the other Wintersday stuff including the 2 Mini’s from Tixx, and haven’t found anything.
Could it be Condensed Mists? I still haven’t gotten a single one of those in 100+ Fractals so I can’t check.
Read what the achievement says. The Toypocalypse canceled achievement is made if you survive 8-10 rounds with all 5 doliacs alive.
Which has nothing to do with Not Toying Around which is survive 50 rounds of Toypocalypse. Read what the post says.
You get Toypocalypse Cancelled if you complete Wave 10 and all 5 Dolyaks are alive. You can die at any point prior to that and still get the achievement so long as the Dolyaks are alive.
However, each round you die in removes that round from the progress towards Not Toying Around. You could die 10 times before finishing Wave 10 and be at 40/50 on the achievement.
The bug is that if you finish Toypocalypse Cancelled you will automatically receive Not Toying Around regardless of your actual progress in that achievement.
(edited by Braxxis.7062)
So if you get Toypocalypse Cancelled, I guess you automatically get Not Toying Around, regardless of how close you are to getting it naturally.
I got Toypocalypse on my first run, but I had died twice during the run, both times to Toxx, so on the final round fighting Toxx I was at 47/50. As soon as Toxx went down the group got Toypocalypse Cancelled we all got Not Toying Around as well and it was all our first run and everyone had died at least once.
I’m trying to get something of a ghostly color scheme going for my Mesmer’s armor. Something wispy rather than glowing blue though. Can anyone help me out here?
As of a couple weeks ago, side sheathed weapons are showing as hanging a few inches off of the clothing, even if it’s something very puffy so it looks weird. Is this an intended change?
There are already 3 threads on this topic in the first page of these forums… I am going to assume you are new than that you didn’t bother to read the faqs, use the search, or even bother browsing the post titles.
The point is, many of us have already contributed to this discussion and it’s rather annoying to have to keep repeating the same things over and over. Because of that you may not get all the responses and information that is already available in those posts, maybe check those first before creating a whole new thread.
There is one topic on the front page of these forums, and it is a topic requesting assistance with a Phantasm Build. Did you read the first post of this thread? I am not asking for assistance with a phantasm build, I am asking if a shatter build is superior to it for dungeon running or farming in terms of damage output. Every other build thread on the front page is focusing on WvW or PvP, which again if you’d read the first post of this topic, I pointedly made it clear I don’t care about. The build thread has all of 2 posts that have been made within the last month (one of which is neither a phantasm or shatter build and the other is for pvp), and changes have been made to the class in updates since those month old posts and things could have changed.
Next time you wanna be cynical, first step is to pull your head out of your kitten and actually see what the thread is about.

So I’m looking for a PvE Build for my Mesmer as I just hit 80 (5th character, yay!). I don’t give one rat’s behind about PvP or WvW effectiveness. All I care about on any of my characters is PvE Farming and Dungeon running.
I leveled my Mesmer with a Phantasm build, going 10/15/0/25/20 as I wasn’t sure if going 20 in Domination was better than Phantasmal Haste (I got that at 80 and haven’t gone and done anything so I haven’t seen it’s effectiveness).
But I was wondering if a Shatter build is better for dungeon running or if I should stick with Phantasm?
I would like
Playable Kodan
Playable Tengu
A Mini Quaggan
Cantha
That was both the most terrifying and yet funniest thing I have seen in a long time.
Wintersday: Updated some Wintersday-specific crafting recipes that required an incorrect number of components.
Which ones were changed? Since I did the topic(s) on all the recipes I’d like to know which ones to change. I could go through them all but that requires character swapping and I’m…I don’t wanna do that right now.

You can always youtube the actual songs.
Or beat the Personal Story to hear “Fear Not This Night” which is the final Bell Choir song.

With event chains such as that, or again the Arah gates chain, the event to defend the pivotal point from the start of the chain shouldn’t occur, ever, during the chain event, which it does and it can be infuriating for that event to fail and auto-fail the current event being done in the chain.
Instead you should have to defend the most current location, and if that defense fails, you should be pushed back to the previous point, not all the way to the beginning of the chain. It should be a progressive back and forth from point to point. That way, eventually if the players get pushed back enough, they have to do the first step in the chain and get back to the end of it. This keeps the event going back and forth but only so long as players are there to participate, and as is the case with event chains, once the chain is completed there are generally a number of players in the area so the defend event would occur. They can choose to do the event and try to hold the location, or they can bail out and lose it. But losing say, the march to the Temple of Balthazaar, should not push the entire chain back to doing the north, south, and central invasions. It should push it back to the Rally point because that was the previous point in the chain.
Eventually the event will get pushed back to the start through sheer numbers, but it shouldn’t be immediate. And it wouldn’t become a massive zerg train if they changed the frequency of events occuring. As it is now, there are some zones that have events that practically never end because as soon as you complete them, 10 seconds later they start again.
It’s true that the proximity trigger could use some tweaking, but that could be done along with this.
With the Halloween event this year you showed us that you can make Dynamic Events trigger based on players being in the vicinity of the event. My suggestion is to do this for events throughout the whole of Tyria. In Orr for instance, trigger the event to take the gates of Arah when there are enough players in the vicinity to efficiently complete it. But don’t have the event to defend the gates occur if no one or only 1 person is there.
Why? Multiple reasons really.
Now this wouldn’t prevent people from doing events. Sure, you may not be in the area for the event to take the location, but if you’re alone you weren’t exactly going to do a group event and succeed all by yourself. If enough people are there to do the defend event though, you will be there to do that. If there aren’t enough people, well you’re not exactly going to hold it by yourself either.
Also, as for the constant defending of a location once it’s taken. The defend event shouldn’t always be the same. It should go up in difficulty the more times that players are successful, without increasing the numbers of players needed in the area. That way you will eventually have to retake the location because the number of enemies assaulting it just became overwhelming.
Basically, once a location is taken, it shouldn’t be lost while no one is around to actually defend it. Non group events wouldn’t be affected by this mind you, just ones that are labeled [Group Event]. This would promote players to group up if they’d like to do a group event for the rewards, and I think it would be nice to see that.
So apparently killing the Sovereign Eye when he teleports to the entrance door, as in he dies upon arriving there, bugs out the quest and Trahearne won’t start the ritual.
So I went and decided to experiment with a Condition Build for a P/P or P/S build with Grenades.
I was thinking
30 – Shrapnel, Incendiary Powder, Grenadier
30 – Precise Sights, Napalm Specialist, Fireforged Trigger
10 – Energized Armor
0
0
Using Elixir H, Elixir B, Grenade Kit, Elixir Gun, Supply Crate
Rabid Gear – 6/6 Runes of the Undead
Either Pistol/Pistol or Pistol/Shield – Superior Sigil of Earth & Superior Sigil of Accuracy
I can’t think of a single PvE armor appearance that is not available in PvP, but there are a number of sets in PvP that are not available in PvE.
So why are a number of PvP armors not available in PvE? And why are they named differently in the PvP locker than the identical sets are in PvE while there is no set in the PvP locker using the PvE name?
Bring Plant food to the Ventari Mini’s – The Grove
Now destroy malfunctioning Turrets – The Grove
Now beat Toxx – Already beaten from The Grove
Now paint Dolls – Divinity’s Reach
Now save Ventari from Dolls – Divinity’s Reach
Now save Dolls from Skritt – Divinity’s Reach
Now beat Toxx – Already beaten from Divinity’s Reach
Now destroy more malfunctioning Turrets & Defeat Waves of Toy Soldiers – Finally the Black Citadel stuff?
Now beat Toxx
Holy crap. And half these events are all occurring at the same time.

First, they are raging about the following:
So, at minimum you have to spend 1450 gems just to get 7 of the 9 pets. At most, you could spend a infinite number of gems and never get 4 of them due to RNG and the mystery boxes not dropping any pets.
I’ve never been a fan of the way Anet is handling mini’s in GW2. I don’t like that you have to spend gems to get a random set of 3 for the regular mini’s. I didn’t like that you had to spend 1000 gems just to get all 4 of the Halloween mini’s. This is just further icing on the cake.

Got it done with the Charr dungeon, who else is ready to study under Tixx?
Honestly though, I think the 2 Monthly achievements counting towards the title made it slightly too easy.
(edited by Braxxis.7062)
It’s not closing down permanently. Those commendations are not going to go to waste, she will be back “soon”. What does it matter if she’s not available during Wintersday? Was there something you desperately need during the event?
“Commendation vendor Lionguard Lyns is restocking her goods and is not accepting commendations at this time. She will begin accepting commendations again soon.”
That’s from the patch notes. At no point does it say she will be back during the Wintersday event, it just says “soon”.
It’s not bugged, I got it done just a short while ago. There are very very tiny fences that have to be destroyed too. We spent 15 minutes running around trying to find out what we were missing, someone found an itty bitty fence and broke it, we got the achievement.
Only pieces of Stalwart from the Personal Story are the Legs (Twice) and Gloves. I was hoping to find the shoulders somewhere.
