PvP Mount Modes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bunnytown.7801

So probably not a very good idea?

I don’t think its a bad idea, just not a good idea for spvp. There are surely other competitive games they can do with mounts, similar to things like sanctum sprint, dragonball, etc. And in fact they already have some of these things, for example the raptor race in Amnoon Oasis. It just wont be well received if it is attached to the spvp lobby.

Is the loot system changing at all w/ PoF?

If your friends are looking for a gear treadmill, then unfortunately this is not the game for them. Guild Wars 2 has always leaned on the side of being anti gear treadmill, which many people love about it. There will not be any higher level gear for the expansion (though there will be new stat combos).

As for their other arguments. I really don’t see what they are saying about spvp? Like do they want to be able to have amazing gear and just stomp people with lower gear? That’s not what spvp is built on. It’s not competitive in that people grinded hours for gear, but creating and using well made builds skillfully. It’s skill over gear….

WvW can be a zerg fest, but even in a zerg your gear matters a great deal if you want to be better. It’s not wise to run in the front of the melee train in berserker’s gear, same if you are a staff elementalist in soldiers standing in the back. If you are a roamer, your gear and personal skill are even more important.

In everything it’s about your stat selection more than anything. I’m really failing to see what they are asking for in regards to pvp modes. Do they want ascended armor that you have to re-enchant over and over until it gets to ascended +15 or something?

Their other concerns about the quality of loot that drops, does have merit. There are tons of people that complain how Guild Wars 2 vomits blues and greens everywhere, but there’s not really a point to the loot besides salvage. However, I’m getting the vibe that your friends are the type who want to be showered with exotics and precursors that all have ever higher stats in an endless cycle… The expansion is changing up the way you get some loot, in the form of bundles that you need to identify to see what you got. But it will likely be more of the same, blues and greens that you salvage and sell materials to save up gold and get what you really want.

At the end of the day, I don’t think this is the game for them. You won’t be able to argue against their points. Instead I would convince them to try the game. The base is free, they have nothing to lose. Perhaps they will see how fun it is by trying it, rather than sitting back with their preconceived notions. Who knows, it might actually see how fun it is getting off the gear treadmill.

[Suggestion] Idea: Solution to "trenchcoats"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bunnytown.7801

If they can actually do something like this, that would be great, as it would open up so many options for Fashion Wars. It could potentially be done with all armors, not just medium. Heavy has it’s own share of skirt/buttcapes. It doesn’t even need to be perfect, as in every top goes perfectly and doesn’t clip with every bottom, as that problem already exists to some extent on current armor.

Wait, there is no raid story mode?

Bunnytown.7801

Question: Let’s say they add a story mode. And you complete it after a few hours. What end game content will you do after that, that you aren’t being satisfied with now? Because a raid story mode will surely be just for story and not rewards to earn.

I think your problem goes much deeper than a raid story mode.

Idea's If We Get Mounts In Core Tyria.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bunnytown.7801

Bunnytown.7801

I don’t care for this idea either. It would really screw over new players, take up valuable dev time when they should be focusing on balancing PoF, and hundreds of pages on the wiki would need to be caught up to date. All that for what gain? To have a ‘feeling’ while traveling the world? Not worth it.

I am looking forward to less waypoints in PoF, and getting more of the experience that you talk about. But that is for the expansion, leave core Tyria out of it. There is nothing stopping people like us from simply ignoring the core Tyria waypoints and traveling from the Grove to Fireheart Rise on our mounts.

I think this might be an American problem. From people from other continents, 250 years is not that a long time, certainly not enough to completely change a place to the point it’s not recognizable anymore. Take a look at London’s maps from the 1700s.. ok it’s different, but there is no doubt it’s London: London bridge, Covent Garden, St’ Paul’s, the Tower of London are all there. https://laurenceworms.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/rocque-lettered.jpg

You make a good point there. However, you are forgetting there was a dramatic change in the climate of Amnoon. After Orr rose, the water rose with it, submerging Olkitten oon. This is like what would happen to present day Venice if water were to rise. Even though Venice has been around for centuries, once it is destroyed the decedents wouldn’t create a replica of Venice.

Also, I don’t know if you found it, but there is some NPC dialogue around the quarry referencing how the pyramids were built sometime in the last 250 years.

You seem to be able to acquire 4 different mounts in the expansion, each one tied to a mastery. They are dyeable for customization. It will be interesting to see what they will do for gem store mounts. Will they be tied to the same masteries? Or will they be standalone without the special skills associated with the new masteries?

Skeptical about Mounts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bunnytown.7801

Bunnytown.7801

I was skeptical of mounts too until I saw some twitch streamers test them out after the announcement.

From the looks of it mounts are implemented rather well. At least in the upcoming expansion they seem to be core to the spirit of adventure and exploration that makes Guild Wars great. Think of how gliding was core to the adventure/exploration of HOT, it’s exactly like that it seems. There are a few mounts (4 I think) and each one is tied to a mastery system. Each mount has a unique purpose beyond a speed boost. Each mount aids in adventure/discovery. Also, the new maps seem to be huge with few waypoints, so mounts make sense to me in that sense. I think Wooden Potatoes (one of the streamers showing things off) was told by a developer that the new maps are just as large as the 4 HOT maps AND the 6 maps from season 3. If true, that is massive.

To address your main concerns about people just skipping content because they can quickly get to where they need to go, well… they already do that. Some players already skip random events X and Z, and others like you enjoy stopping to help spontaneous events. The only difference after the expansion will probably be that the first group will still ride by on their way to objective Y, and the second group will charge their mounts into events X and Z (entering combat with your mount looks fun btw). People are going to play their game as they wish.

I’m going to throw this out there and say that it might even be quicker to skip content on foot rather than on mounts. As far as I know there is no dodge mechanic for mounts, and when you get hit you get knocked off the mount. If true, that would make it hard to go from one side of the map to the other in core Tyria where enemies are thick, vs. now where I can use movement skills, blocks, and dodges to travel without ever having to slow down from combat.

No-Mount Zones

I’m fine with mounts being available anywhere in the open world, outposts included. I would prefer no mounts in the major cities however. For one there is already enough clustering around banks and trading posts. Second, it will be nice to have some areas where you can see other player characters as they are. Because if it’s like other mmos, once mounts are in, people will be surgically fused to their mounts like mutant experiments gone wrong.

RP Servers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There is still quite a bit of RP in the game. I am on Tarnished Coast and part of a mega RP guild whose sole purpose is to make linking to megaserver maps with Rpers more common.

-For the main racial cities the number one area for RP always will be Divinities Reach (You can glide over the wall into the Salma District from the Grenth waypoint, lots of RPers there).
-After that, I would say the Grove is the next likely area to find random RP.
-The Black Citadel is popular for Charr related RP, though it seems guild focused.
-I could count on my hand the number of times I’ve seen RP at Hoelbrack.
-And I have no idea about Rata Sum as I hardly stay for long, though it isn’t ever a ghost town when I go there for a quick bank teleport from Magumma, so there could be an RP scene there.

But knowing my luck Anet just won’t bother adding a new playable race. And thats a pity, it would be “shut up and take my money” deal for me.

You are correct that Anet doesn’t need much reason to add something new, haha. However, they are already pleasing one “shut up and take my money” crowd with mounts. They might save a new race for the next xpac to please the new race crowd.

Has anyone while traveling/questing on HOT feels like if you are playing an MMORPG version of Dark Souls II? Lol

Someyimes, it feels that way, full of mobs, tight corridors, etc?

I was getting the souls vibe today while I was rushing through part of the HOT story on an alt. As in the souls series, once I’ve played through, I begin to run past and try to avoid enemies instead of fight every single one. Just the way the HOT maps are designed to be so convoluted, layered, and filled with mobs to slow you down, really makes it a challenge sometimes to rush from point to point. It just brought back memories of choosing the fastest route to get what I wanted in a souls game, like rushing to join darkwraiths at lvl 12 or something.

Bunnytown.7801

If you build it right, you can have really great sustain and damage.

You mean equip Herald cus base rev sustain is kind of a joke.

Herald is good, but I dwarf can be great too. Use staff for auto attack heals. trait for heals on vulnerable opponents, trait for heals when attacking behind opponents, trait for heals on energy use. Finally turn on utility skill vengeful hammers and run circles around enemy. TONS of minor heals that add up fast.

Dwarf + herald is even better because of the toughness you get on upkeep skills trait, which means a better vengeful hammers.

I’ve been zerging around using the hammer in a damage spec. It can get kinda boring since only using hammer #2 is clearly the best zerg busting skill. However, I’ve been messing around with mallyx. Being able to resist all conditions on the frontline, plus help your team by drawing away theirs feels amazing.

I’m working on a mallyx build based around absorbing conditions, then using lyssa rune to convert them to boons. Also, I want to test the new sigil that steals boons on interrupts. Trait mallyx to daze on elite and potentially steal a boon from 5 enemies. Hopefully there isn’t an internal cool down on this sigil… Also, need more stability haha.

staff needs a buff

in Revenant

Posted by: Bunnytown.7801

Bunnytown.7801

Staff is an amazing weapon. In my opinion the best Revenant has. It isn’t a damage dealer, that is what all the other weapons are for. Where it shines is the utility. It’s like shortbow for thief, you can slap it on to just about any build and it will work well. However, unlike thief shortbow it still does moderate damage, not the best, but not anything to laugh at either.

Staff has condi clear (very useful on Revenant), HUGE CC (arguably too good against breakbars), health sustain on auto, blast finisher, a mobile block/blind.

If the damage was on the same level as hammer or sword, this weapon would be utterly broken and overpowered.

I haven’t unlocked ventari yet on my Revenant, but I will let you all know how it feels to me from another class perspective.

I was a thief (glassy/squishy) doing the legendary wyvern mother event in the canopy. I made a bad dodge and was hit with the wyvern’s acid. I had 1.5k health left, burning eating away the remaining health, and my heal on cooldown. I felt the downed state was rapidly approaching. Looking around I spotted a revenant’s tablet not too far away, shining like a beacon of hope. I shadowstepped over to it just in time for it to cleanse my conditions and begin passively healing me with regen. The mysterious revenant in control willed the tablet to pulse an aoe heal, then kindly move the tablet through me to wherever they had gone on the battlefield. After that I had about 4/5ths of my health back, my heal ready for later, and was saved the dishonor of the downed state. I was very grateful to them.

What happens if the Pale Tree dies?

in Lore

Bunnytown.7801

I don’t think the egg has anything to do with “saving the Pale Tree”. The goal for the egg seems to be far bigger picture than that with what we learned from Hidden Arcana – that is, to replace an Elder Dragon in the long term.

I was wondering when you would show up, Konig. Looks like I correctly performed the Dark Brotherhood ritual this time.

It seems obvious that there is a bigger picture for Glint’s Egg, after all not everything should revolve around the Sylvari from a story telling/game perspective. Perhaps the egg doesn’t have anything to do with restoring (is that a better way to put it?) the Pale Tree, as you say. However, do you believe that the egg has nothing to do with the Pale Tree, besides her helping all of Tyria? I feel as though she would have some long term, less altruistic, plan concerning her “children” the Sylvari and the egg.

Ok, so if a dead pale tree = no future Sylvari, what was Mordremoth’s intention in sending his champion to the Grove? He did grave damage to the Pale Tree, and it seems like she will die without the player saving her in some way. Did Mordremoth intend to destroy the Pale Tree? This doesn’t really make sense since Mordremoth would be cutting off future minions. Unless, like you speculated, there is another tree in Magumma which he can rely on…

Not expecting a real answer here, since I assume some of these questions will be answered in game. Just want to read what some of you lore hounds think.

In living story season 2 the avatar of the Pale Tree tells the player that she is dying.

If the Pale Tree’s avatar dies is this also the death of the Pale Tree itself? And if the Pale Tree dies, does this mean the dream dies, which in turn means no more Sylvari will be awakened into Tyria?
Or, since Sylvari were intended to be dragon minions, will all Sylvari awakened afterwards be Mordremoth's minions? Lastly, what do you think the plan will be for saving the Pale Tree? I assume it has something to do with Glint's egg. I also, don't remember if there was a already a plan, since I played this a long while ago.

Overpowered Passive Traits

in Revenant

Posted by: Bunnytown.7801

Bunnytown.7801

Did you play Revenant in the betas? These traits aren’t that overpowered, or even on the same level as the passives other professions get, like warrior. You get one stack of stability for 2.5 seconds on dodge, and a taunt/prot -after- the disable every 45 seconds.

Of course your point is Anet keeps adding passive traits to the game. However, it is far too late. They designed passive traits into the game, they would need to do a total sweep of traits to get rid of them. Seeing as they just did this 6 months ago, it would be logical to think that they have no intention of ever removing them. If that annoys you too much, I would advise not getting invested as it will only fill you with rage every time you see a player’s passive go off.
