Renegade, (Semi)Reasonable Expectations

They do, however, want to make a fun game, so they will try to make something that works in a way that players enjoy, but that goal has to be something they can reasonably achieve, and “start over, try again,” just isn’t happening.

I’m not very worried in that aspect, I mean: I never liked the Ventari legend, so after the HoT release never use it; currently is viable in low level PvP matches in public games but I still refuse to use it.

I have no plans to use Kalla, I have 2 Revenants, one will be stick to power builds while the other will run the Renegade traitline + sb and either mace + axe or staff for a while, but not Kalla. If the short bow keeps underperforming then I’ll swap to the classic condi Rev lev. For me Ventari, Kalla (and Jalis to some extent) have the same interest as the spirit weapons or the signets from Guardians: I just don’t play that crap. They can up the Kalla numbers and turn all the utilities into a 100k damage nuke and still I won’t be interested in that pulpy char. Even the animations (which are praised by some players) looks to me way below what other classes (as Firebrand) got.

What I’m most interested about the expansion is the ability to fight the new specs with my core Rev/Herald. I bought the basic edition instead of the advanced ones because as a Revenant there’snt too much to be excited about. I was for crafting Chuka but after the beta I changed my opinion and now I’m either going for the legendary armor in PvP or the Shining Blade (despite I already have Bolt). They messed up this spec, badly: I’m not interested into play a Spirit Ranger with a bad short bow. A corrupted quaggan has more appeal (and is more cute)…

But like, why would you purposely want to fight a Longbow Ranger or Dragon Hunter from a range greater than 480 or 900 anyways? I’m assuming you’re condi here, but everything you do from any of your stances has a similar or lesser range.

I don’t want to fight them at range (neither as the current power or condi builds) but they will kit you hard at range, using things like Ancestral Grace, Swoop, Wings of Resolve, Infiltrator’s Arrow or infiltrator’s Strike (and of coursem stealth) to disengage and then will pressure you with volleys of ranged attacks. That wasn’t as much as a problem with the old Phase Traversal, but currently your gap closers are weaker than their disengage tools, so without a functional ranged weapon it oftently ends bad.

That’s in Conquest, where the control points still have a role (so is good ending dying as long as you decap fast or keep the point for a decent time), but in WvW roaming most of those builds just ran in circles slowly bruising you with 0 effort.

Nothing the short bow does can provide more breathing room than just hitting them with a triple cast of Banish Enchantment, which was honestly already all the ranged condi poke we needed. If you happen to be stuck outside of Mallyx, you still have mace 2/3/axe 5 to range your opponent with, as well as sword 2 and 3 to keep kiting/mitigating until Mallyx comes back up.

Mace #2 has only 480 range, Axe #4 only 900 and despite Axe #3 has a range of 1200 units this attack moves foward slower than unfolding a large carpet so is pretty much impossible to hit a target consistently or put any condi pressure with those tools if the foe is a longbow Ranger, Dragon Hunter, pistol Thief, Mesmer, Rifle/GS Warrior, etc.

But I agree in that the Renegade’s short bow doesn’t solve the problem, because the weapon lacks range, damage and useful skills.

You have strong mobility outside combat (Shiro, Mallyx, Glint) and broad access to quickness (Impossible Odds) so is one of the finest classes for mining and gathering stuff (which happens to be one of the most profitable activities in the game). That provides you advantage in the never ending task of stack gold, which is one of the key spects of Fahion Wars.

Hi anet! Returning player here

It kind of seems like the Hammer is going the way of the dodo in terms of build usage. Heck, NONE of the new specializations coming out use hammers. No warrior builds use hammers, Rev’s use them but theyre weak (and once shortbow comes out I doubt they’ll be used at all.)

Renegade’s short bow is harmless, will be easily the least used expec weapon at any part of the game. Hammer is still the strongest weapon from Engineers, and is used in WvW raids by most of Revenants, a large amount of Warriors and some Guardians.

I think that if you have ascended items you can reset the stats to viper just buying the Viper Intricated Gossamer Insignia (for armor pieces, with the equivalent item for the weapons) in the Black Lion’s market and using the Mystic Forge .

So technically I think that a player can get the viper stats without HoT. The same should happen with the selectable stats from legendary weaponry.

I feel like this is probably what happened with Renegade in the first place, A.net saw a bunch of forum warriors QQ’ing about not having a ranged condi weapon (something that we didn’t even need and doesn’t even fit with the rest of our kit) and decided that it would be the feature they’d implement to save their revenant community and bolster expansion sales.

Let me start saying that I have Eternity (in a DH which doesn’t uses it) and still I was all about getting a ranged condi weapon, and if ANet ask me “which weapon you want in the next expec?” I will shout “A CONDI PISTOL!” Now, let me explain why:

Since the murdering of Phase Traversal and Unwavering Avoidance both the power Rev and the condi Rev are utterly overshadowed in duels/roaming by the stealth/reset condi meta: you can’t chase foes because you need to preserve energy for your breakstuns, cleanses and ofensive skills (in that order) so after a few seconds you can’t barely move and you end destroyed by ranged attacks/condi pressure. This is mitigated in PvP to some extent because you at least can defend a point for a while, but when theresn’t a control point to fight for the disengage tools + range/condi pressure from other classes gets the Revenant demolished. Hammer is a one trick pony weapon which kills you once a fight goes to mele.

So, the expectations were to have a ranged hybrid weapon able to do condition pressure and maybe to have some helpful tools, which finally happens that the short bow isn’t. Id doesn’t synergizes with Corruption, it doesn’t plays well in uneven terrain, id doesn’t provides the damage numbers to pressure our foes or the utilities to keep us alive. I expected the Renegade to be a PvP focused spec, and my predictions failed spectacularly; you wanted a fix for the current Revenant state in PvE raids and that also didn’t happened. Congrats: both were fooled.

And now let me say that ultimately I talk with money: before the betas I was guessing about purchasing either the basic expansion or the ultimate one. This morning my pocket talked volumes and I spent 29,99 € in the basic expansion. Could have been 80 € due the bargain in the gems was appealing, but since the Revenant specialization happens to be almost useless to solve the problems I have in the game modes I play I saw no compeling reason to spent extra money in this dissapointing class spec.

Bleed seems strange. They need to change everything to poison, and maybe add some torment to an ability or two.

Probably won’t happen because they already linked the lore of each skill with the effect they chose. Anyway, the worst part is seing how weak overall falls compared to the other two short bows in the game:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Short_bow

Not only has the worts cast times of all of them (while also costing energy) and the worst average damage, but also lacks any mobility/defensive tool; Ranger’s has one skill with evassion + swiftness, one with cripple and one with daze/stun, Thief’s has one evassion which cripples, one immobilize and a teleport + blind (Thief’s sb is also way stronger than Ranger’s and Renegade’s due it’s skills are a lot more spammable).

A pistol with a nice torment based auto attack and two empty skills would serve us better because would let us to wield an off hand sword or axe for the defensive/cc tools.

Even if they crank the damage of the shortbow to 5k autos still won’t fix how unimaginative/unusable are the rest of the tools.

Buran.3796

Looking at the raw numbers there isn’t any reason for people to be so critical against revenant anymore.

I think that Zenith explained it well. The Renegade traitline adds fervor so condi Rev using mace + axe will improve its dps. But the traitline doesn’t synergizes itself with torment burn, chill or even venom: it focused on bleeds.

Bleeds are only provided by the shortbow, and any time you swap from mace + axe to any other weapon (including the shortbow) you dps will damatically fall. The shortbow’s only usable skills are the (weak) auto attack and the #5, the rest are expensive gimmicks which also doesn’t work over not flat terrain; it provides no mobility, defensive or utility skills. The F keys do provide weak skills at high energy cost.

So Renegade looks decent for PvE: chose your Mallyx + Shiro (or Jalis) legends, your mace + axe loadup and enhance your dps with the Renegade traitline. But if you were looking to change your playstyle, or you were interested in using Kalla or the shortbow for PvP, WvW roaming or WvW raids you will hit a wall: they just don’t perform.

Buran.3796

Condi Rev was buffed a couple of months ago: now skills from mace, axe and Mallyx stack more torment and also chill can be traited to proc torment. As aftermath, is easy to stack 30-40 stacks of torment in matter of seconds, specially en PvE. But Echoing Eruption was changed and no longer tracks: goes towards where your character face, so now requieres more micro.

Also, last month torment was changed a little in PvE so instead of doing 50% of the damage while the enemy stands and 50% while moving now most of the damage is done without movement, so works better vs mobs.

That’s all, the only changes to condi Rev were done in the last 3 months so reading the last two patches will give you info enougth.

Took me 1 hour to unlock full Elite Spec on my previous main (Guardian) and my newly made Revenant, without using WvW. 20 Hero points were not hard to make at all when HoT launched.

At the HoT release there wasn’t a way to unlock Hero points outside of PvE and I was mostly a WvW/PvP player. Last weekend I bought a character slot for my second Rev and took me like 4 hour to fully unlock Her with no help and no WvW tokens spent.

I guess than in a respectable PvE guild, team playing and rushing any player could do the same wilth all the 9 specs of PoF in a weekend.

What about the WvW tokens?

It will probably happen but it took over a year after HoT release so don’t hold your breath.

Yeah, I guess that ANet don’t want players to instantly unlock the specs with existing currencies because a slower method demands more time playing, which makes sense. Anyway, I remember that took me like 2 months to complete my main spec in HoT, but then I unlocked all my other 10 characters specs in a single month.

PoF specs will completely outclass and counter Revenant in every game mode and Renegade is not enough to make up for that.

This is an statement I can’t agree with. Albeit Rev/Herald is is weak in some game modes most of PoF specs are also weaker than their HoT counterparts, and some even worse than the core classes.

In example: the Deadeye, which is regarded as one of the strongest specs of PoF (and has some of the most interesting mechanic changes compared to Thief and DD) is way easier to deal with as a power Rev than condi DD and permastealth builds. The same happens with the Mirage and the Soulbeast.

Well for those against this, doesn’t appear the devs are active with the class community….at all….which is kinda depressing. Even WoW has dev posts during testing phases for the classes.

ANet lacks any comunication in relation with balance and skills, specially after the HoT release. The more close thing to that is the brief excerpts they write with each balance patch (4 times a year), which isn’t really a “conversation” but a one sided message.

You will NEVER see a Point of Interest or a developer in a interview in which they board and address any specific problem with a skill or unbalances between classes. In the PoF presentation they did 0 effort to try to explain what role each spec is supposed to do in each game mode (probably because a lot of them are useless in 1, 3 or all of them).

I guess that is what happens in most of games, not every game is like Tekken in which Harada is both the producer, the main programmer and at the same one of the best competitive players in the game.

What I would like to see is a combo with condition damage, toughness, concentration and vitality or expertise instead of vitality (like trailblazer but with concentration isntead of expertise). The reason is because I find concentration more valuable to enhance the Mallyx resistance, but almost every stat arrangement with concentration is either power/defense focused or a horrid combo.

Also condition revenant is a better roamer than Power Revenant in general.

That isn’t true at all.

In mid to large groups Revenant is used as the main source of resistance for the team, so Mallyx provides a solid “ignore all condi damage for a few seconds” to your team mates, specially if your Rev is geared towards concentration. The menace of ranged attacks from foes is covered by other fellows.

As a roamer, you can go either power or condi. In both cases the Revenant or Herald is highly handicaped tue their inability to deal with stealth and enemies poking at range. Oftenly our worst nemesis combine stealth + range + conditions, as happens with condi DDs, Chronos and Druids.

The condition Revenant roamer can proc reistance for a few seconds, but due energy cost is impossible to remain constantly in Mallyx, and a elusive target (stealth, teleports) can easily spam conditions over us and await the legend change to land condi burst. Condi Rev is also weak vs characters with a strong ranged damage, because our tools over the 600 unit range are minimal.

Power Rev is much weaker to conditions, but has better defensive tools and his spike damage is way larger. If you play exquisitely you can survive vs condi foes: we saw a few power Revs winning the 1 vs 1 tournaments casted by Jebro (despite facing skilled Necros and Mesmers); we haven’t seen any condi Rev doing a crap at high level play, neither at 5 v 5 Conquest tournaments or 1 v 1 duels.

That doesn’t mean that you can’t win skirmishes as a condi Rev: you can. But is mostly because those players are worse or have sub-optimal builds.

The Renegade willl add an insult to the injury, because Kalla is useless, as F2 and F4, and the bow not only lacks synergies with Mallyx and the mace+axe combo (which are mostly torment based, whereas the bow is focused on bleeds), but also due lacks any defensive or mobility skill. A staff with shortbow’s #1 and #2 would be infinitely more strong that what we will get. Also, a pistol obviously would have been a better choice because at least would give us the option to defend with off hand sword.

Can’t wait to see in the much demanded greatsword spec in the thord expansion! For sure probably will be a weapon focused on healings to complement a legend oriented towards magic finding boons or something equally revolting!

They still have a lot of bugs to solve in the core Revenant. Last weekend using Unrelenting Assault I got boxed up between the wireframe of walls in the environment in two times: one helping a player in open PvE and the other doing a mission from the Living Word Season 2 (trying to gather a few mastery points). Rev doesn’t only have fewer skills than other classes and an extremely rigid array of choices, but you also have to live in fear of the use of some of them because can force you to re-start a mission or a PvP match because you got sandwiched in the wireframe of the landscape.

Remove energy cost from weapon skills

in Revenant

Buran.3796

There’s some interesting facts about the Revenant energy system:

  • Swapping legend doesn’t add 50 energy units, only resets the number to 50, so if you had over that amount, you lose energy…
  • …Which doesn’t matter too much, because outside PvE you almost never go beyond 50-60% of energy: the system rises slowly as a snail past 50 and as happens with the Warrior’s adrenaline system you lose all the “excess” over 50 units in like 2 seconds inmediatly after leaving combat.
  • The only way to stack energy is… to only use auto attacks. Because everything you have as Revenant (weapon skills, heals, utilities, elites, even the F keys mechanics… ) drains energy, and you lack any extra source of energy “generation” outside legend swapping to reset to 50.

Renegade will push this even further turning Revenant’s classic “autoattack rotation mode” into “autoattack stationary mode” to preserve the static buffs from fervor. Which of course only works towards PvE content.

The resistance up-time and infinite dodge from Shiro has all been patched quite awhile ago and now they’re balanced.

You can just delete the Herald and that won’t make the players to use that pos called Renegade over core Revenant in PvP. As happens with most of the PoF specs, Renegade is mostly useless for competitive game modes.

DH and DD need to be nerfed for PoF

in PvP

Posted by: Buran.3796

Buran.3796

But then we have Dragonhunter and Daredevil.. both of these are just way too good at preying on anything that isn’t a bunker. The new elite specs do not need buffs – they are well designed. Instead Anet should nerf the low risk / high reward specs of Dragonhunter and Daredevil or else these two will just dominate all the new specs and kill build diversity.

Let me start saying that I currently I don’t play DH or DD. Then, let me say that DH’s longbow was nerfed several times, in terms of damage, cooldowns and mechanics; the F3 duration was (again) nerfed two times. The traps were nerfed in damage, in cc (daze remove), then nerfed again. The f2 was nerfed, the heal was nerfed, the f1 animation is now longer and more predictable…

If you still have problems vs DH is because you refuse to adapt your build and gameplay vs them. As long as I remember no DH won the 1 vs 1 tornaments from Jebro, neither DH were present in the winner teams in the recent tournaments.

Related to the thief, the only nerf I think they need is about stealth. Stealth in this game is utterly broken and op. Stealth is the strongest damage preventing tool in the game and also one of the main sinergies to burst damage, which makes it ultra convenient for all the classes that can spam it.

You’re forgetting the 20% increased damage on all outgoing condis from Kalla’s Fervor (traited).

That’s stacking Fervor, which can be gained flanking oponents, getting fury, crits, etc. But you need to chose certain traits, and in combat getting those stacks isn’t as easy, specially due the Renegade is frail, so oftenly you need to retreat losing those bonus.

In WvW my experiece was that you can use the bow + Shiro to put some pressure, but your deaths (with sb/m+a) do come when the enemy makes the mistake to try to fight at mele range when you turn to Mallyx and mace + axe.

Buran.3796

How are you coming to the conclusion that Renegade condi dps is garbage? I can assure you you’re wrong. Condi revenant was already strong, Renegade trait line just flat out helps what’s already there.

A problem that the traitline has is that the only traits which enhances the condition damage (+25% duration and +25% damage, Bloody Fury and Heartpiercer) do only affects bleeds. The core Revenant base conditions are torment, burn and chill/venom (to some extent). So the Renegade doesn’t have synergies in condition damage to the core build; only buffs bleeds, which are provided by the shortbow.

And happens that the shortbow does a fraction of the damage provided by mace + axe (and half of the skills are terrible due almost everything in the terrain acts to prevent them to work). So shortbow’s #3,#4 are like a Vengeful Hammers 2.0.

Seems that ANet is unable to design Revenant skills which interact “normally” with the terrain: Vengeful Hammers stopping at the sight of a slant, Unrelenting Assaut phasing you inside walls, shortbow # 4 impossible to place because a 5 cm mushroom arises from the floor, shortbow’s #3 losing projectiles due “reasons”…

Renegade Demo Weekend Feedback

Another thing: the amount of PvP terrain in which shortbow #4 doesn’t work is just astonishing. In places like Foefire’s Legacy the central control point is almost the only location in which you can even aim with that crap: in both the quarry and the waterfall any small slant in the terrain makes the area cursor to go red effectively reducing your bow skills to 4. And take care thar short bow #2 is mostly steaming garbage.

ANet should have given us us a mainhand pistol with short bow’s #1, #3 and #5, so at least we could compensate the lack of defensive tools with off hand sword or something. This thing is top bottom even vs core Rev.

Ok, first impressions: Renegade is depressing; I won’t call it an “elite specialization” due is mostly plebeian (but without the utility of providing food).

For WvW roaming/pvp seems that doesn’t have anything usable: Kalla skills are “all the nopes” and by far the worst legend you can bring to a duel. I was expecting at least the shortbow to become usefull as a hybrid damage weapon (like the Ranger sb), but isn’t. Lacks any defensive skill and seems weaker than the hammer, to be honest.

The traitline is good, but that’s all: Mallyx + Glint or Mallyx + Shiro seems to be way better choices than Kalla for a condi Renegade in Conquest or roaming, but with the bow you either lose the defensive staff (so the bow replaces mace + axe as condition dealing weapon, being weaker) or you go sb + mace + axe and then you’re frail as hell.

I guess that will be decent to complet the new maps, but I’m seriously annoyed for being waiting two years for a viable new build of Revenant for PvP and roaming, which this “thing” isn’t. I don’t like the legend, most of the skills and most of the traitline. Seems like I’m buying the expansion for a +25% condition duration trait. I’ll stay in the 30 € purchase. No mood for crafting a legendary shortbow for this crap, also.

Because played at perfection holds on vs most of the other classes, even the “hard counters” as condi Mesmer and Necro. But because is so hard most of the time ends wiping the floor or being subpar, which is bad for the ego but good for progression.

I did leave DH two seasons ago despite I was more successful with that class, but now I don’t want to go back to a class with access to stability and good condition cleanses. The only thing that I still call broken is how strong is stealth in this game, but even then from time to time I’m able to beat some haughty condi thieves.

But to some extent I think that is because is a lot like in fighting games: you like a character, you like it’s gameplay, you’ll keep chosing it as your main even if sucks.

Why is it bad to have it a bit early so other folks see the thread instead of making their own threads that aren’t consolidated?

Is this one consolidated? What’s you expectations and take off about this class? Which are your thoughts about what has been shown?

Is buying a legendary for TP a viable option?

Is gathering that amount of gold even possible in the slightest by just playing the game, selling all materials, actually doing stuff?

If you have 10+ characters you can make 30+ gold coins a day/900+ gc a month just mining 6-7 rich iron ore nodes x character a day and selling it. Will take you 90-120 minutes a day.

If you only have 5- characters then the best way to gather a similar amount of mats is to use a single character (the one with the best mobility you have) to systematically gather all the seasoned logs, elder logs, tukawas… several times a day. Those logs will grow again an hour later and there’s guides with the best paths to farm them.

Both methods are very vaible, but require patience and grind. I’ve done it 3-4 times.

I don’t believe anyone in their right mind thinks that Renegade will be a thing in SPVP. But then again, Revenant in general wasn’t exactly screaming for play in that format either, other than maybe for those fairly high skilled players I suppose.

The two main moanings about current Revenat is their irrelevance in PvE raids (which I have no clue if the Renegade will solve, but also don’t care, to be honest) and the uselesness of the condi builds for roaming and conquest due the inability to put any pressure at range. Due shortbow lacks defensive skills that means that Renegade can go “full suicidal” with sb/m+a or more balanced with sb/staff, which means losing the other two condi weapons. So that will probably lead to “use the same power build as two years ago”. For PvPrs and roamings a full expansion with no improvements or changes could lead to frustration.

So don’t see why everyone is moaning about having stun break tied to heal. We all know that everyone will just save that one for a true “oh kitten ” moment when cc’d to hell and ability to both heal and move at the same time becomes hella important.

That can be sub-optimal in a lot of situations in which you need your breakstun but your HP is fine and will waste the heal on a 30 sec cooldown, and viceversa. The root, as always, is the inability for the Rev to customize your #6-#10 skills at all.

Longbow was nerfed a couple of times (specially True Shot) so there’s no chance of a buff in short time.

Meh… when the expac launches, people will drop Glint like a bad habit. And thank God for that. Death to the lazy boon bot spec.

People will leave Herald and therefore Glint, but that doesn’t mean that will Kalla because having the strongest part of the Renegade (the traitline) doesn’t forces you to use the weakest one. Talking exclusively about PvE, tho.

thank you, but do my 2 trade skills “making things” like weaponsmith add anything to me?

Leveling those skills to 400 will provide you enough xp to rise 20 character levels (which isn’t too relevant because in this game everything gives you xp). At 400 you will be able to forge any heavy armor of exotic quality from any stats you chose after learning the proper recipe (having the materials). That will save you some gold in relation with the Black Lion Market, and you also can use mats to craft those pieces as sell them for a benefit. The same happens with armosrmith (also, any character can learn the 8+1 crafting skills, is only that you can’t have selected more than 2 at the same time and rotationg between skills outside of the 2 active ones has a cost).

But the real reason for people to rise their crafting skills is to level them to 500 to be able to forge ascendant armors and weapons, to not rely in random drops. You can also use your mat surplus to sell ascendant components at decent margins. High level crafting is needed to craft the post-HoT legendary weapons, also.

Also I’m alittle confused on what weapon I should be using.. Is it the mace?

Let’s say you see a bunch of enemy foes while being in Shiro: use axe #5 to cc them, then use axe #4 to teleport to them, swap to Mallyx to recover energy, land Unyielding Aguish, then cast mace # 2 and mace #3 and finally spam mace #1 until your energy lets you to cast UA again. At that point everything should be dead.

Try something like this:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQNApXmnvNeNS6JvJRVlHlsrykSYW5SJYssrkFNFhdc62pbCdqtQgGA-TRiBABA8kAGS9nFM/lz+DacKB0TLxRK/kVJoK6CAA-e

Use a mix between dire and rampager gear to get a decent ratio between direct damage and condition damage with enougth crit chance to proc the effects. Use and abuse the AoE from mace and axe (plus Unyielding Anguish from Mallyx) to engulf the foes in ~40 stacks of torment and let them die while you run them in circles. Use the staff for defense and cleansing and Shiro for mobility.

Once you reach 80 work on the Herald to get Glint and replace Shiro and Devastation. For high end content you should replace the stats with viper, sinister or trailblazer.
