Every time I try to get a PUG in this game for an instance, I end up just getting frustrated because the current system sucks, to be quite honest. The “excessive messaging” chat filter makes it nearly impossible to find a group for what you’re looking for.
If you’re not willing to create a matchmaking system for instances, then you need to relax the chat spam and people can deal with. Right now the game is suffering far more from the inability for people to find a group without using a 3rd party service.
It’s not easy when there are 50+ people at throwing snowballs at 5 – 10 skritt — I’ve done 3 escorts and hit THREE … sorry, but I don’t have 4 – 5 hours to complete one achievement.
Has anyone at ArenaNet tried to do this daily when the ENTIRE server or overflow is? This was not well-thought-out.
I feel stupid for having spent SEVEN WEEKS working for this shameful excuse for a reward.
When you consider how little effort it takes to complete the other Living World meta-achievements, this is a huge slap in the face.
I think this video pretty much sums it up for me:
Right, but this concept that the stickiest blob wins is absurd — you don’t see people huddling together in war because that’s how you lose your entire force from one well-placed siege/AOE attack.
My point: WvW was FAR MORE TACTICAL without a cap on AOE targets.
WvW has turned into a zerg contest to see who can keep their zerg closest together in a zerg war. I can hardly believe that this game has sunk to this level — the problem dates back to the time when AOE’s were nerfed to affect a maximum of 6 targets.
Please rethink WvW because right now the only strategy is an absurd idea of huddling together like a pack of lemmings.
ArenaNet, would you be willing post the metrics of the money removed from the economy with this “event”?
I’ve been trying to get the achievement and so far it’s cost me 10g and I’m not even done yet.
Make no mistake, the Moa Racing being part of the achievement is intentional — it’s just a down-right unethical attempt to suck money out of the economy. SHAME ON YOU ARENA NET!
It’s a money sink — here’s let’s create an achievement to fix the economy. sigh
I just tried it for a 5th time after a few hours and it got stuck on the exact same part (chopper transfer). sigh
It’s been 5 months and this dungeon is still nearly impossible to finish. 4 tries today, 4 bugged-out scripting events. No cutscenes skipped. Please stop neglecting the core problems of the game to work on expansion content when the launch content is riddled with so many problems.
I absolutely loathe dungeons in GW2 because they are riddled with progress-blocking scripted events that bug out on a very frequent basis. Of the 25+ dungeons I’ve done since release, at least 40% of those were aborted because of a problem with the game scripting.
It’s been 5 months since launch and this is a completely unacceptable rate of failure. What are you doing to address this problem? I’ve reported every single failure but I continue to encounter them frequently.
Personally, I think it’s a sham … it’s a way to mislead players into buying these tools without actually having to introduce more resources into the economy.
This is the primary reason I will never buy Black Lion keys — it’s gambling and the house always wins in the long run.
I am not sure what the purpose of adding this “chore” was to the list of daily objectives, but I know for a fact that you didn’t plan on people dragging mobs into NPCs just so they could watch them die and get credit for finishing the quest.
Suggestion: remove it.
that´s not true in the official queue thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Queues-for-WvW-The-Official-Thread/first
they already made a statement that there is something wrong with the queue´sDoes anybody know why there is no such thread like this on the german forums ?
Looks like they dont have the problem with queues and nearly empty maps
That thread specifically states “We will definitely keep you updated when there is any news on our progress.” It’s been 5 months … no progress? No updates? This kind of neglect is unacceptable from a customer service perspective.
How are they not working correctly?
… Its completely random? You dont have to look far to see people reporting just that on the forums. Queue 15m, relog, insta-join. Queue 1h nothing happens. Both peeps start queueing at the same time. Queue for 2h nothing happens. 1h in another guildie had to wait 10m for the queue to pop. Etc and so on.
If we could actually see the queue stats (ie “you are 104/250”) and its frequently updated, we could at least have some sort of feeling for the amount of time we have to wait.
Now, its just… Completely random.
+1000
It’s been like this for 5 months and it’s getting to the point to where I think ArenaNet doesn’t want to admit there is a problem and perhaps just silently rewrite the queue system for the Feb/March update.
I used the sickle and the mining. Got absolutely nothing extra. Go figure.
Then it’s confirmed, they are extremely efficient at gathering the exact same amount of materials as the cheap tools.
ArenaNet — can we get an official response to this. It’s either broken or the tool tip is extremely misleading.
Did you guys notice any higher rate of bonus item drops (gems from ore, dyes from plants etc.) while using the BL tools? I’m guessing not.
There’s almost no difference based on my personal experience in using them. I’d say that 20 or 30 strikes from an Orichalcum kit versus a Black Lion kit will yield approximately the same amount.
I’ve used all charges on a sickle against solely Omnomberries, axe on Orrian Sapling and mining pick on Orichalcum and only received maybe 1 or 2 extra in 20 or 30 strikes.
It’s broken, for sure.
These are advertised as “Extremely efficient at gathering resources and uncovering rare components.” However, I have used many of these and found that they are almost no different that using the Orichalcum harvesting tools.
Either these are broken or should have their tool tip updated because they aren’t making any noticeable difference.
Now, let me give a different point of view. The Monthly Achievement for WvW takes less than 2 hours (conservative estimate) — there have been times when I finished it in 30 minutes.
When you consider the time investment compared to completing 5 dungeon runs, this is a much bigger imbalance. In my experience, the number of people who participate in WvW versus Dungeon runs makes this achievement a chore.
It’s 1.25 dungeon completions per week over the course of a month. I hardly think that’s unreasonable. And this is coming from someone who has played since launch without setting one foot in a dungeon.
Yes, but the time investment to complete this versus previous months is significantly greater. Frankly speaking, I think GW2’s dungeon experience falls very short — it’s not fun or exciting. Just the simple fact that I have to stand in a zone and broadcast my intent to join a group, only to be blocked as “spam” after the 3rd attempt illustrates the biggest flaw in the system.
Best. Monthly. Ever.
No WvW!!!
To the people at Anet who decided this, thank you sooo much! I love you! This will be the first monthly I actually get, and I’ve been playing since beta.

ArenaNet isn’t listening because there isn’t more than one path to completing the monthly — every month it’s either WvW or PvE, not either. We know they can do this because they did it with the Winter’s Day event … it just seems like they don’t care? That is the message anyway.
I agree that this is a philosophy-breaking change. While I do enjoy the diversity, I feel like this change stems from a desire to create more of a grind/treadmill to keep players occupied more than anything else.
So, I like the idea of the new Laurels currency, but anyone who completed the January Monthly before today misses out on them. Any chance we can get these credited? It seems silly that the non-procrastinators are getting punished by missing out on a very valuable currency — we’re talking 10 days worth of dailies!
It’s really frustrating to spend an hour in the WvW queue and get disconnected or have the client crash and be completely reset.
This is something that games like WoW did right — if you lost your connection or crashed in an instance, you would have up to 5 minutes to rejoin instead of going to the back of the line.
Unfortunately, it was not as you described. It was soulbound the moment I picked it up.
I was on my Ranger and upon clearing the final boss in the ice fractal, the treasure chest awarded me an Exotic light armor piece … that is SOULBOUND?!
Please do not drop make loot drops soulbound unless they are usable!
The “Fractals of the Mists Dungeon Improvements” article (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/fractals-of-the-mists-dungeon-improvements/) stated this:
“The goal is to allow everyone to play together and make partying less restrictive for everyone. We plan to ship these two features at the end of January.”
But I didn’t see any mention of this in the “Flame & Frost” update earlier this week:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/january-2013/
Does anyone know what the status of these changes are?
I am very disappointed at all of the players who jumped servers to SoR. When the going gets tough, the tough jump over to the server in the lead I guess.
Most of all, I blame ArenaNet for ZERO INACTION on a big problem for the past 4 months. Who gives a flying crap about guesting at this point? The best option would have been to just give all accounts 1 free server transfer and be done with it. Instead, WvW has turned into a digital version of duck-duck-goose with the world transfer feature.
In honor of our position change next week.
Ugh … I don’t want to be green! That’s going to throw off everything for me! We’ve been blue for so long!
SIDE NOTE: holy quadruple-queue time lastnight! I gave up after an hour and a half … haven’t seen queue times like this on a weeknight in a long, long time. Did SoR get a bunch of bandwagoners?
Why does blindness cause fear to miss? This is a defect in my opinion because it makes no sense.
Guardian. You can melt face or live forever.
Currently, if I want to earn badges of honor, I have to choose between playing the class I want to play (Shield Warrior) and the class that earns me badges (DPS Ranger).
Right now it’s based solely on who does the most damage, which alienates support and non-glass-cannon builds.
SUGGESTED CHANGE: In addition to the current system, assault/defense objectives award them based on the objective type:
ASSAULT:
Camp: 1 badge
Tower: 2 badges
Keep: 5 badges
Castle: 10 badges
DEFENSE: always 1 badge

There are two major problems with the Thief as far as balance:
1) The decision to make stealth part of active combat (Cloak & Dagger) is probably one of the most, if not THE MOST, ill-conceived idea in MMO history. It gives such a hugely unfair advantage and when you combine that with the terrible culling, it makes the Thief a guaranteed “i win” class.
2) I personally have six level 80s and none of them have the ability to dish out damage even close to the Thief — D/D has the ability to do over 20,000 damage in less than two seconds. I am not sure what justification was given to allowing one profession to dish out DPS at this abusrdly high rate, but it has no place in this game if you ask me because it’s not on-par with any other class.
The Thief needs a serious overhaul — allowing ANY class to stealth as PART OF COMBAT should have at least have a 10 second cooldown.
Without fail, TC has filled IOJ’s shoes well in that they focus their entire day crew on attacking SoR BL rather than the point leader. When is Red going to realize the key to second place isn’t by attacking second place?
Just once it would be nice if it wasn’t Green + Red vs Blue. SBI has been completely unchallenged by TC in thier BL all weekend.
Just because a server can field 100 players per Borderland at 5am EST doesn’t mean they should be able to if the other two worlds in their tier cannot.
I wholeheartedly disagree ArenaNet’s lack of inaction on addressing this issue by saying that “all is fair in love and war” — this is a very weak response to a cut and dry balance issue.
WvW is about competition … this GAME is built around fundamentals of fair and balanced PvP, but when it comes to WvW but you have decided that you don’t want to build a system that is fair. Instead, the current model actually incentivizes imbalance by allowing free transfers — when guilds get frustrated because they are facing insurmountable odds, they just move the flavor-of-the-month zerg server.
As it currently stands, the title of winner is awarded to who has the biggest army, not who has the best army. Here’s what I suggest needs to change: the maximum number of players allowed per world, per borderland should be on the current population of the other worlds in that borderland.
It’s kind of hard to believe that MMOs launch without this feature … given the near complete failure of SWTOR, I’m not sure how ArenaNet decided to launch without one. Most players don’t want to stand around advertising in chat (especially when those chat channels have functionality that block you from advertising repeated messages/flood control — honestly, I’m not sure how QA passed this feature).
Also considering that this is sequel, how can the follow-up be missing such a big feature from the first game?
Personally, I think a lot more people who bought the game would still be playing if there had been one at launch. The server populations will slowly drain until this feature is added.
After my 4,000th visit to Lion’s Arch, I do not need to see the “You’ are in the Overflow” prompt everytime I join. Instead, just make the word “Overflow” on the minimap bold and yellow or something — the modal popup window is a nuisance.
WvW needs lots of love — which they have stated is going to happen. It just all depends on what they add. It’s been the most neglected aspect of the game, which is sad considering it’s the best feature (IMO).
Eagle Eye gives you 1500 range … that makes a big, big difference in WvW unless you’re spending all of your time roaming and not defending/sieging. Also, consider that your auto-attack does max damage at 1000+ range so the “window” is bigger for being in the max damage range.
This is why glass cannon thief builds are OP — I was on my Hunter who has a complete set of exotics with +Vitality and +Toughness in additional to jewelry as well Build spec with +300 vitality … I literally died instantaneous (see attached screenshot).
Glass cannon or not, a build is excessively OP when it can dish out 22,000 dmg in less than 1 second.
In my opinion, the “raid” as known by games like WoW appeal to a small percentage of the overall population of the game. That being said, the entire focus of the game shifts to it — that’s what drives everything and causes the game to be un-fun for anyone not a part of that elite group of hardcore players.
GW2’s model is great for both casual and hardcore players so I hope it doesn’t change. If Dungeons and Fractals (20+) aren’t hard enough … then WoW may be your best bet.
Less moderation is needed in my opinion — the types of comments that get infracted as “trolling” I find completely unjustified. On these forums, your opinion only seems to matter if it doesn’t hurt somebody’s feelings.
(edited by Caelib.2497)
TBH, this is kinda how the real world works too … the people working the hardest aren’t necessarily the ones getting ahead
Ps you get 1-2 badges when you kill leader in Supply Camps.
Right … but you need a glass cannon build/group to get credit for that.
Op- too many badges would be dropped that way, it should be 1 badge per X events that you take part in- especially defences to encourage people to take this part of the game seriously.
Now you realize a player needs about 2000 badges for a full of Invader’s exotics right? I’ve been playing WvW at least an hour a day on average since launch and I’ve obtained ~700 Badges. When you consider the time investment compared with other paths in the game to get Exotic armor (Karma or Dungeon), it’s probably 15- 20 times greater to get a set.
I agree with the comments — all worlds have a lot of skilled players but the true test of a worlds overall skill will never be revealed until nightcapping is addressed. Personally, I would like to see some form of dynamic queue added to keep the maximum number of players per borderlands limited to the average across all three worlds.
Not only would this make night-capping a lot less of a problem, it would balance out the Oceanic server population of certain green-colored worlds.
Sea of Sorrows does not discriminate based on color or creed.
This was done at 3:51 AM EST — that’s not really what I would consider an achievement … it’s nightcapping
Small groups of 5 – 10 people can be extremely effective in WvW. In fact, I would argue that they are far more effective than a zerg if they are led by the right person — Keeps dont win wars … Supply Camps do.
