I am looking for or trying to create a power engi build for wvw. I have played condi and hybrid builds for a while and love them for 1v1’s and small group fights, but i also like to zerg and play in large groups where condi builds arent as effective. Static discharge seems to be the only pure power spec that people play or talk about and its usually full glass, so not very well suited to surviving in zergs. also my skill level is average or below so i typically prefer builds that have a little bit more sustain than glass.

If someone had shown me this build a week ago i would have thought it was silly but i wanted to take the kits, utilities and traits that i like the most and build around that. i was hoping that mostly zerk gear with fire and air sigil would give enough damage to kill people.

I did some roaming and duels to test it this morning with pack runes and power food, but lost several fights against condi and hybrid builds so i switched to melandru runes and poultry soup to help mitigate condi’s.

Also for zergs i would swap in tankier trinkets and trade elixer gun of elixer s.

So is it possible to make a good build with rifle and toolkit being the majority of my damage without going static discharge? Any ideas, suggestions or improvements welcome… you can also tell me its just garbage because i cant tell.

seems like karma train. before tuesday it was an exciting and competitive match up. today, all of our towers keep flipping, and we are running around flipping them back. There hasnt been much fighting and our normal scouts seemed to have just given up. It appears to just be an eotm style competition for who can back cap objectives faster.

This change sucks. This is not fun.

For the mage crusher, is there a tip or trick to avoiding his auto attack poison projectile? I have tried soloing him melee but i can never consistently avoid that attack. Im aware of what the animation looks like but its fast enough and subtle enough that Im too late.

Getting assassin rifle and the earring from arah will be easy. Im not a big fan of cm though so i doubt ill ever complete that. Thanks for response.

so I made my ascended armor for engi before I was aware the meta was assassin’s. I made a set of berserker with scholar runes. I dont have the resources currently to make another set, so should I just replace my runes with ranger rune?

I buy gems… more than I’d like; because working a poopy job irl is better than grinding for ages in this game.

I have leveled most of my characters through crafting. Every time I level to 80 I tell everyone it was for sure my last character, but it never is.

Despite my distaste for elitism I judge people in dungeons who use bad builds and weapons who don’t seem to want to get better.

That sounds great. When it goes live we can all bandwagon to the same server and farm it. Since we will all be making 15-20g an hr it wont be a big deal to hop transfer servers constantly to always be on the winning team.

Much improvement since the last video i saw that you posted. good job.

In small number fights i feel i like i get focused by many people who tunnel vision on me; in large fights i feel invisible and am usually allowed to spam nades freely.

I dont mind if someone is using tanky gear or not using a max dps build, but it kinda bothers me when people run pvp builds in dungeons; like triple meditation guardians, 3 spirit rangers, PU torch wielding or shatter mesmers with no reflects, shadow arts theives.

Its funny, I come to wvw forums and hear this all the time. WvW players feel neglected and forgotten. There’s not enough new developement for WvW.

Then I go into the dungeon forums I hear “anet doesnt care about us, we have been forgotten. We only get one new dungeon path in 2 years! Anet cares more about pvp and esports.”

Then I go to pvp forums and I hear “We want new maps, new game modes, and the meta is stale and not fun. Sure we got the reward track but its not enough, Anet has forgotten about us they only care about living story!”

My point is that everyone who’s passionate about one aspect of this game feels neglected and like anet is doing too much for the modes they dont care about and not enough for the game mode they like.

In my humble opinion it seems that the crowds with differing opinions on ranger sword are playing different game modes. It seems like the people who love sword the way it is are coming from a spvp or wvw perspective while maybe the people who dont like sword as much play more pve.

I dont play my ranger much and when i do its only in dungeons but the reason i dont play it much is because i dont like the sword auto chain. Circle strafing around a boss on ranger is more difficult than with any other melee class. Also sometimes i prefer to be at max melee range instead of being glued to my target and pushing him around the room. If sword was ever changed to function similarly to other classes auto attack then i would love my ranger and play him a lot more.

Also +1 to getting a main hand dagger for ranger, pls

I got burned out after week 3 because of lame match ups and politics. I’ve been having tons of fun in pve though, running lots of dungeons, making gold, leveling alts.

I cant wait for season two to end so things go back to normal in wvw

People in my guild level with dungeons like AC TA SE regularly. With at least 3 strong lvl 80 players having 1 or 2 lower levels doesn’t slow down a run that much.

I really wish shield had better skills. Lately, i have been going sword/focus +scepter/focus because shield sucks so much. Your changes might help make it a better but its still not as good a warrior shield.

Im not into solo roaming, I just want to be able to follow commander into large scale zerg battles and survive. I tried using the hammer but I just dont like it. I like sword/warhorn for the mobility and condition removal. I havent been able to test it out much because wvw action has been lackluster the past weeks.

Any feedback for how I could improve it?

The stories that you hear about people being kicked for not having experience is almost exclusively about pugs(pick up groups) of strangers.

The best way in my opinion to gain experience in dungeons is to find a guild that is pve focused and ask for them explain the dungeons mechanics when you do them.

Thing about AC is thakittens really really hard for 5 random people who arent on the same page, and really really easy for 5 people who are coordinated their strategy.

Also, exp path 2 sucks.

So I have just begun to do dungeons and I want to make sure I will contribute to the party adequately. I am pretty comfortable with the bunker build I play now because I dont go down too much but I am contemplating other builds being more useful to a group.

So my question is if you are running a dungeon and and there is a guardian with you what would you prefer their build be?:
Something like a 10/30/0/30/0 maximizing dps
Altruistic healing, decent but not great damage build 0/0/30/30/10
Or a cleric wearing 0/0/10/30/30 mace/shield, healing symbols, extra long boon giver but hits like a wet noodle

I realize its a tricky question because a lot depends on the group composition, so we are speaking in generalities assuming the party will have at least a couple people who deal good damage.

Maybe you just dont like playing as a guardian. If you tried twice and quit both times then why not try another class?

Also, different weapons have different uses. Some weapons I didnt like as much until I come to a situation that it is perfect for, then I realize how cool the weapon is and that each one has its place.

Im really not a good player and couldnt win a 1v1 to save my life, but with a staff I can follow my commander straight into an enemy zerg tagging everything with auto attack and come out the other side. I stay alive way longer than I should thanks to the staff. This is my testimonial.

Well, what I did was really stupid and expensive. I bought multiple sets of exotic armor before I understood what I wanted my stats to look like or what was important to me. After I had an idea what I wanted I started mixing and matching until I had close to what I wanted. A much cheaper and more efficient way to do this would be to play around with gw2buildcraft or a similar build calculator to see what traits and armor will give you the stats you want.

If you dont know what stats you want to achieve there is a pretty good thread in this forum where other guardians post their stats and what armor they use to achieve those numbers.

As for what traits you want it depends on what you want your role to be. Some people make guardian builds to maximize their dps and others build to increase survivability and support. There are a lot of threads with different ideas for builds that will explain each trait and why its good for that build. Ultimately you will have to just try different different builds and different traits and see what you like best.

Also, you seems focused on power, vitality and toughness. Dont overlook precision which improves your crit chance. Certain traits are triggered on crits so increasing their frequency is desirable.

preface, I am very new and my opinion may mean very little.

Just for consideration your armor does not have to be all one set. I had all knights armor but I wanted to increase my vitality and critical damage, so now I use 3 pieces of knights and 3 pieces of valkyrie. Is this optimal? I have no idea, but I like it because I feel the extra vitality gives me more survivability. Also I feel its gives me a good base mix of precision, crit damage, vitality and toughness, which allows me to manipulate my stats situationaly by changing out my accessories.

I just wanted to give a big shout out to RagingDragon and his guild Knights of Ares. The past couple of days he has been taking me into dungeons and Fotm.

What I found is that dungeons can be really fun and not all that difficult when someone explains to me exactly what I should be doing. Having an experienced leader and voice chat helps a lot with this.

I believe he and his guild are making a regular thing of running dungeons with new or inexperienced players and showing them the ropes, so if anyone else is interested in learning dungeons feel free to contact RagingDragon.9475

I searched wiki but couldnt find answers to my questions about boon duration. Does anyone know:

If I am wearing boon duration gear will the boons I give my allies be extended?

I was playing around trying to maintain permanent swiftness so I tried using 2x speed runes, 2x air, and 2x something else for a total of 60% swiftness duration but it seemed like I only recieved 40%, why is that?

For altruistic healing builds what do you think is better, 6x superior rune of the soldier for the shouts removing a condition, or 2x superior monk, 2x superior water, 2x major water for 40% boon duration?

Bonus question so I dont start another thread. When using scepter and focus if I use two sigil that both trigger on weapon swap will they interfere with each other like say, sigil of battle and sigil of energy, do I only get one effect or both? Or sigil of force and sigil of accuracy, they both work together?

I have a question about this shout. It draws all of my allies conditions to me while applying a ton of boons to everyone. With an altruistic healing guardian does the healing from boons usually out weigh the conditions you take on?

The other day in wvw during a big zerg battle I popped this shout and got like 20 conditions all at once and insta-died. I was thinking maybe I should use contemplation of purity right after it? Is that normal or just a bad spot to use it?

Thank you all for the kind responses. I will message some of you when Im online. I am already in one guild of nice folks that I like, but they dont seem to do many dungeons and when we have we didnt use mumble or anything and I think it would be easier to ask questions speaking rather than typing.

I dont feel that i have to pay, its just that I have plenty of gold plus all the armor and weapons I need for now so I thought offering some gold or loot would incentivize someone to take me under their wing. I think of it like when I wanted to learn to play a musical instrument I hired a teacher, when I needed help with algebra I hired a tutor, even in online poker players would hire coaches.

I have watched a lot of strife025 videos, they are all amazing, the thing is his team is too good. They burn down bosses in 30 seconds and make it look super easy. When I’ve been in dungeons we werent as coordinated so boss fights take much longer and involve many deaths. I think I may have learned more about running ac p1 from a video of a bad pug because i got to see people make mistakes.

If this is in the wrong section or inappropriate please forgive me. I am looking for someone to teach me to be a better player and to help me get better at running dungeons. I dont have much experience in dungeons and the little I have I found them difficult. I am not looking to become a dungeon master I would just like to be able to hold my own in a group and know what to do.

I am willing to pay someone 1g per dungeon path (if this is reasonable price?) or I will auction whatever loot I obtain and give proceeds to mentor. I would like to use teamspeak or mumble so I could be told exactly what to do or how to do it better.

I am looking for someone who has is knowledgeable and good in dungeons, has teamspeak or mumble, wants to help a new player, and is patient when I make mistakes because I will make them.

My main character is a level 80 guardian with full exotic armor and accessories. My home server is tarnished coast but I am willing to guest to another server if needed. I mostly play afternoons and evenings US eastern time.
