Everytime I ponder whether or not I want to go back to GW2 I soon reject the thought.

Just looking at all the temporary content makes me ill. All that time could have been spent making real content that made the experience good enough to return to.

I was distraught when the game released unbalanced and unfinished. Dungeons were a mess and SPvP was pointless.

How’d you fix that? Ignore the manifesto, make controversial cash shop items, and spend all your resources making dull and temporary content.

What a huge disappointment…

It’s just a laggy zerg fest with no real depth (even after the patch). Plus 95% of the time it’s just one server out of the three in constant dominance, so there’s never any point of going there. Came back on today and eventually just got too frustrated and bored to be bothered to play this dying game.

It’s just a handful of canned responses and lies, paired with intentionally ignoring the REAL problems such as the new gear. That’s all ANet has become, canned lies. I love how at the end they give a list of vague descriptions of real problems they should have fixed before the game was even released. It’s like “Despite what everyone thinks, the event was a complete success except for a few slight technical things that we promise to fix! oh by the way, here’s every aspect of our game that needs to be finished and over-hauled, we won’t bore you with the details when and how we’ll do it. Now go back and play the game while we censor forum posts.”

The game is a flop and lie, the grand mmo we all expected was an unfinished, unpolished, mess of a lie… After launch ANet has totally changed faces and this new patch signals the beginning of the end for most people. Was a nice dream I suppose, maybe a future mmo will get it right, just need to hope for a company with more integrity than ANet

If you raise a legitimate point, especially on a profession sub-forum and ESPECIALLY on the elementalist thread, your odds of being censored are definitely increased. If they knew how to balance the classes they would have done a lot more by now. They censor countless threads in the forums raising problems with the game, especially if it’s from some one “quitting” or taking a break and giving their feedback. They are no longer a transparent company and don’t really have to live up to all their promises since they have all our money now. My guess is we’ll have to wait a longggggggggg time for the classes to be fixed, bugs and balance issues both.

I’ve only seen a couple ANet staff and they weren’t doing anything of note, probably just testing in-game content or something. If there are any around then they’re completely focused on bots, since whenever someone is trolling and spamming and being insulting rude to everyone in the area, such as a WvW map, they’re always free to do so with abandon. Any kind of griefing or trolling i’ve seen goes unpunished, and the bots still roam around with their caravans… The forum is watched by a big brother presence to the point where it’s uncomfortable, they should allocate some people or hire new ones to monitor the actual game.

Dont play an elementalist until they fix them. Weakest class in the game and still have bugs, very few of which have been fixed. Engineer is fun, good bit of variety, and grenade and flamethrower kits are fun, especially in WvW. I’d suggest guardian though, after switching to it from my ele it felt like I was in paradise. Damage is so much better and the abilities are very fun, great at support and damage. Only problem is you don’t really have any decent long range abilities.

Most people are anti-social and/or just rude and pessimistic. Finding people to do dungeons with is often impossible without a dungeon finder and when you do finally get a group there is usually one person too impatient to get the instancing to work as it should and leaves the party. At which point everyone gets ticked off and leaves in turn. Or people discover that dungeons are endless corpse runs and then leave the party, resulting in the same domino effect. Communication in zergs in WvW is often hopeless and strategic gameplay is only possible with guilds. My point is that outside of DE’s randomly popping up, the game is in no way design to encourage even a slight bit of cooperative multiplayer outside of tightly knit groups of guilds/friends with the same motives and opinions on the game.

I'm leaving GW2 for now, and this is why it matters.

ANet’s design philosophy is to completely separate Pve from Pvp, the game isn’t solely one or the other and anyone who says so is childish. Plus, OWPvP wouldn’t fit with the lore at all, the story is about the races joining together to stop the elder dragons. This is evaded with the “lore” of the mists, which is only possible since it is completely separated from any story in the real world.

Thank you for mostly rational responses guys. I’d like to say that, as clearly stated in my post, I have tried numerous builds and weapons as an elementalist in pve and pvp.

And I also realize the term “finish” isn’t 100% appropriate but you get my meaning. Also I realize I may have exaggerated a bit on some fronts, that’s just due to frustration and the fact I didn’t mention the parts of the game I do like enough, and didn’t iterate enough how I do truly want the game to succeed.

Long way to go...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chewie.7389

This is going to a be long post, sorry.

First of all, I followed this game for the longest time and have been a huge fan. I admired that ANet was transparent, connected with it’s fans, and desired to change the mmo mold that was so painfully stale. Which included Holy trinities, grinding, class imbalance and pvp ignoring, and failed releases and sub fees.

However after playing since release I simply find it harder and harder to log in each day.

WvW has proven to be poorly thought out in the long run. The system is designed so that people falling behind in the map stay behind. It is ridiculous that enemy teams can simply build endless siege weapons in places where you can’t possibly attack them. Anytime you try to get a group to make a comeback you’ll be trounced when you try to take any sort of towers. You’ll be bombarded with innumerable siege weapons followed by a massive zerg and you’ll be lucky to destroy the gate. The range and damage of the weapons is absurd is most cases.

Class balance has yet to be addressed or even commented on. I play an elementalist and I feel like the bottom of the food chain. I die incredibly easy no matter build or weapon combination I try (i’ve tried them all I promise) and my damage is never on par with other classes. I feel crippled when using anything but a staff aside from 1v1 pve/p. I can’t use anything else in WvW or else im useless, and I can’t bring myself to use other weapons in dungeons without feeling like I could be more useful with a staff. We need a long range single target weapon, that’d be nice. But the main point is that we were promised class balance would be a high priority and that they had all the cutting edge technology to implement quick and seamless fixes and were dedicated to working on them as fast as possible. But no, nothing. Thiefs run rampant, bugs are still aplenty, elementalists are not only weak but we can’t even get the bug fixes other classes are getting.

Another thing ofcourse are bugs. Lot’s and LOTS of bugs. I remember reporting countless bugged skillpoints and events in the betas, and what did they fix? None of them. It’s incredibly annoying not being able to complete a map when you want to because of those things. Another annoying bug is one that cuts off all the sound and replaces it with a “woo woo woo” noise in WvW. Not to mention I get at least one game crash a day. Optimization is terribly unfinished, countless people who are getting low fps should definitely not be, and the game is still incredibly CPU intensive for whatever reason. Invisible armies in WvW are incredibly annoying. Taking SM is a lag fest of invisible armies. Personal story quests bug out and either halt progression or require you to restart the mission. No first person camera. Grouping with people for instances is like juggling with fabrege eggs, it’s difficult and you’ll most likely just break everything and not be able to do the instance at all without jumping through a dozen inconvenient counter-intuitive hoops that often cause a domino-effect of people abandoning the group.

PvE dungeons are typically just corpse runs back to an event or boss that will instantly kill you either through means of insane difficulty or bugs. Another thing is ofcourse, the Zhaitan fight, which is an incredibly dull conclusion that isn’t fun or exciting. Most epic DE’s are a mad zerg rush on a dragon foot until you get a chest with more often than not no loot worthwhile. Also, no dungeon finder? Why must mmos always implement this ages after the game is released?

tldr version: They promised us game that would be finished when it was released. They lied, released the game in a horrid condition like so many other botched mmo releases, rarely officially comment on any of the games flaws or honestly and openly talk with the player base, like they did when the game was yet to be released. Their reputation of transparency, honesty, and innovation is slowly fading… I want the game to succeed and be what was originally envisioned, but they have a LONG way to go sadly, and it’s very hard to play for long periods of time right now.

I realize that i’ll probably be met with the ever-present fangs and claws of the fanboys who vehemently detest any kind of critiquing of the game, but I don’t care. This is how I feel about the game and I think these issues should be scrutinized not ignored and replaced with undying zeal. It’s unhealthy for the player base and the developers.

Thanks Anet for the great patch.

I’m an elementalist and I can safely say that I and most of the other ele’s find this a pathetic and dismal patch for our class. And in a broader view, it’s unfathomable that there are so many bugs, the game is so terribly unoptimized, class balancing still hasn’t been done, etc etc… This game was not released when it was done, as promised.

I agree OP, I was totally dismayed to see barely anything changed with our class. It sucks enough that they aren’t balancing the classes yet but now they have to leave ele’s out of the majority of bug fixing too? Mist form and Ride the lightning being the obvious fixes. The sad part is I would rather take fixes that make our class viable for anything over bug bug fixes at this point, it get’s really depressing…

I remember reporting this and several other skill points that were bugged in a similar manner in the beta, most were not fixed. The only way to get this skill point is to either switch servers for a day (not recommended), try to get to an overflow, or just wait and keep checking back. The first two methods aren’t even a guarantee, but i’d suggest the overflow method. Those methods go for any of the bugged skill points you’ll surely come across again.

Game losing its appeal?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chewie.7389

Chewie.7389

I’m taking a longggggggggg break from the game. I loved Ele in the beta but they’ve really damaged the class and now it’s the lowest on the food chain. The game is a buggy un-optimized mess that becomes unplayable where the game is meant to be the most fun. By that I mean in massive WvW fights, enemies are invisible, fps can drop to painful levels, and now since the latest “fix” I crash after an hour or two without fail. The game was not released “when it was done” as promised and now they’re going to feel the repercussion of that i’m sure. Another issue is dungeons, every dungeon is just getting one or two shot by boss mobs that seemingly didn’t even hit you at all and then running back to your corpse dozens of times. As a customer and long-time follower I am severely disappointed in the state of the game. I’ll return on a later date, nothing would stop me after all since there are no sub fees, but still.

I miss the days of the betas… It seems almost everything aside from skill point bugs was more optimized, fun, and balanced…. I had much better performance, albeit still not up to what it should have been. Now it seems with every update ANet rushes out the door my fps and performance drop with each one, I’m sick of playing now and will wait until they fix it. The game has many reasons to group with people and almost no reasons NOT to group/cooperate with people lol. I haven’t been able to do TA either, im around level 50ish. The reason is because (from accounts of those who have done it) that it’s incredibly and unreasonably difficult, frustrating, and broken/buggy. Pretty sad I know, but from what i’ve heard there is only one waypoint and everything does incredibly unbalanced poison damage and that it can take literally hours to complete. Just wait until they fix it is my only advice, don’t forget you can do any dungeon in any mode at any level

While I think our class definitely needs more work, anyone that turns you down for something is either A: ignorant of how GW2 changes the mmo formula, specifcally that you don’t need certain class combinations to complete any content as long as the players are good. orrrr B: (and this makes more sense for spvp) they already had an elementalist on their team and wanted as much variety as possible, or are looking for some other specific class for a certain condition/boon and/or that meshes well with their existing combination. But still, they would’ve done well regardless.

I hope in the future they add new areas within the overall WvW area (indeed containing 4 zones as promised). Perhaps in expansions. Chewie.7389

All very basic fundamental and positive changes listed, I fully support this. I don’t really think there should just be one commander rank that you get by buying… There should be multiple similar ranks that are earned and cost a bit of money. Like others said Red wouldn’t be a good color but still a good idea. Orange maybe? Purple?

Also, have speed buff npcs at spawn like in main cities would be, I think, a good idea. You’d still have to run back but it would be less frustrating and seem a lot faster. As an elementalist I can just sustain a swiftness boon the whole way anyway, just tedious to use a bunch of skills constantly while moving.

Burn Damage Stacking

in Elementalist

Posted by: Chewie.7389

Chewie.7389

Well I agree that it’d be nice since duration stacking isn’t exactly fun/exciting lol. However if it were the case then it wouldn’t be any different than bleeding damage. Even poison is different since it has the %50 healing reduction. Burning is just meant to an extra “oomph” to attacks over time, whereas if you are playing earth attunement or something then you actually focus on stacking bleeding and not entirely on the attacks themselves.

Overpowered?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Chewie.7389

Chewie.7389

I would say it’s not easy to play but not the hardest to play either. Depends on what you’re doing. Laying down multiple AoE’s isn’t too hard with staff, in WvW for example. But in PvP it’s pretty hard since we have to switch attunements constantly and be mindful of a lot of cooldowns and atm i’d say we are too squishy. Thief is overpowered though, you should stick with that lol. Also ele utilities aren’t very interesting, we need 2 space alone for Arcane Blast and Wave to have competitive damage. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad class and can be fun, but has flaws.

Is there a reason why elementalists do not have a "reduce falling damage" trait?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Chewie.7389

Chewie.7389

We are not the only ones I am pretty sure. Even if we had one I most likely wouldn’t use it as it doesn’t seem very practical, at least not enough to take the place of another trait (depending on the tree). Besides, we make up for that by being able to keep a sustained swiftness boon up 90% of the time with staff lol.

Mist Form needs work

in Elementalist

It can be incredibly frustrating relying on mist form in pvp (and to a lesser degree pve) since it doesn’t make you 100% invulnerable despite what the tooltip says :/. It does not stop condition damage, which can be a HUGE source of damage taken in pvp depending on the situation. This just doesn’t seem right to me. Especially since it has a painfully long cool down and only lasts for 3 seconds….

Chewie.7389

Ele is not OP, and I find solo leveling boring as you have mentioned. I’m around 50 and what I do is spec into the fire and water trees that way I get decent power and also vit and healing for staying alive. Be sure to move around a lot and use healing when necessary. Also to keep things interesting im switching weapons pretty often when out of combat to keep things fresh. Utilities are incredibly boring you’re right, we need both arcane spells, our damage doesn’t compare otherwise. Where I find the elementalist shines is in group play. Whether dungeons or WvW. It’s very fun to use staff and be able to damage and put a wide range of conditions on enemies while being able to switch to healing my team mates, which we can be very good at.

Frankly I wish they would remove or change the 2 arcane utilities, buff our normal damage, and then replace them with something more interesting and less lazy.
