I understand that the pet needs some time to execute the command due the connection between pets and the server.
But why does my ANIMATION have a cast time then?
I really accept that the pets need time to execute my shout but I think it really sucks that my shout animation is not instant.
" Shouts have an instant cast time and may be used during other skills. "
-GW2 wiki-
Is there any reason that Guard is the only shout in the game that got a cast time?
I really get annoied that all these perplexity-noobs can interrupt my SHOUT?! -_-
20/x/30/x/x
If you are going for full support Nature´s Voice and Spotter are the most important ones.
I would go for cleric or apothecary gear and 2x Traveler, 2x Monk, 2x Water runes for a total of +75% boon duration. This means PERMA Regen and Swiftness for your party.
I don´t really like Spirits so i would go for Guard, SoW and Muddyterrain or smth.
/e: and go for sigil of battle… you can keep 12 Might stacks.
While leveling in the open world our pet is a BEAST…. it can solo most mobs with ease.
But in endgame (PvP, Dungeons) it´s not that usefull anymore and sometimes even obstructive.
What really stinks about power LB is 99% of the time my havoc group wants Spotter. Which means I have to choose between Piercing Arrows and Eagle Eye, can’t have both. Eagle Eye is usually the one I drop, it still sucks though. Also, can’t have the Beastmaster Sig at all with that set up. They put all 4 traits I need for my havoc LB build in 2 slots.
Well two of those (Signet affect the ranger aswell, piercing arrows) should be no trait at all… Those should be default to any ranger xD
SB does more damage then LB… you have to accept that! BUT LB brings some AWESOME utilities.
If you use your LB3 just right you can avoid about 30% of all direct damage (3s stealth, 9.5 cooldown). Spam it!
LB4 is awesome! You can interrupt the enemies heal for example what is HUGE.
If he comes near you just use LB4 to knockback followed by Lightning Reflexes and boooom your almost at max range again.
LB2 is not bad/super good… again the damage is not really good but you can track the enemy in stealth.
LB1 and LB5 are the worst skills imo.
LB1 is to slow and you really have to learn to kite to reach enough effectiveness.
LB5 roots you. Almost every skill that roots you is crap because you are a easy target and easy to interrupt. But LB5 can work when casting it in stealth!
Speaking of combos (not combo fields and finishers)… LB got HUGE combo potential if combined with GS.
Here is an example:
If you´re opening the fight LB1 shines!
You have the range advantage and LB1 hits hard (the first second when @max range).
When the enemie gets closer just give him a full rapidfire (don´t kite… just walk straight against him).
When he finally reached you use your LB4 to knock him back… imediatly followed by LB3 (it will hit 99% of the time cause he´s still knocked back) then imediatly swap to GS… swoop in (a stealth swoop… he will not know what happend to him) use GS5 to stun/daze, then Maul then immediatly use GS4 to block (they attack 99% of the time) to interrupt him again.
Just an example.
You have to learn alot about this class!
1. The sigils are just not good. They will not work right because they share cooldowns and wtf do you want with this fleshreaver? xD
2. You are using 6x Traveler Runes AND Signet of the Hunt???? Wtf
3. The norn owl and the Elite are crap.
4. LB in your “hybrid” build? There are ways to make LB viable in Condi specs but what conditions do YOU apply with LB?
The only conditions I see in you buil are cripple and poison on Sword and poison from the trap. The bleed applied by owl are just kitten.
Rangers aren´t made for fighting in large scale fights.
This is an attempt to make the ranger an awesome longlasting buffer to your group while surviving the sickest frontline brawls!
What do YOU got with this build?
- Biiiiiig surivability (3k armor, 20k+ HP, perma protection/regen and good healingpower)
- medio-core damage (2,9k attk without bloodlust/might, permafury)
- BOONS: Permanent regen, protection, fury, swiftness, vigor and 40s !!! stability from RaO (stability is the most important boon in a zergfight)
- You heal for 300++ Hp/s
What do you bring for the GROUP?
- +100% boonduration
- 23s regen, 20s swiftness for your party on shout
- 30s of fury, might, swiftness on Call of the Wild (and a blast finisher)
- long lasting waterfield, condition cleanses, more regen (Healing Spring)
- AoE immob and fear to split the enemy zerg
How do you play this build?
This is a frontline build! You´ll stick to the commander and buff your group.
- Spam guard to perma buff your group with regen and your pet with perma protection.
- Set your pet on avoid combat (if it attks a random/stands in AoE and dies it will be no help at all). Stick to brown bear cause he will be unbelievable tanky (100% regen, protection uptime and heal from SoW) so you have the condi removal always on demand. If you time it right: Swap to wolf to fear the enemie and break his lines.
- The GS is your main weapon. Its autoattack hits multiple ppl, maul hits like a truck, leap for gtfo-moments/waterfields and gs4 to block AoE.
Switch to axe/warhorn whenever you feel you need to blast a combofield or your team needs a little damage buff (30s fury)
- You´ll have a TON of vigor (10s every 15s cause you get critted all the time) and 10s on heal…. So you can dodge ALOT. If your server got TS your commander will call out many dodges and you will be usually be able to do so!! Dodging is REALLY important.
- Save your Muddy Terrain for mid fight… The first few sec the enemy zerg will be buffed with stability but after 20s a well casted MT is reaaaaaally painful
I usually use my ranger for single/small group roaming!
But this build is a good way to fight in a zerg and actually be a HELP for the TEAM!
Give it a try and have fun!
Did you submit this bug?
Don´t get me wrong… the ranger needs some rework!
I´d like some of these changes but some are just sooooo OP.
I MAIN a ranger and I LOVE rangers but I really understand that dedicated WvW guilds don´t want rangers. I´m in a pretty decent guild and for guild raids I use my guardian (roaming my ranger).
The difference is my guild don´t say we don´t need RANGERS… they say we don´t need rangers, thies and engineers.
For a “competetive” team these classes bring by far the worst utilities for a big group.
for example:
Guardian: Shouts, Empower, Line of Warding
Warrior: Banners, Hammerstuns, sick AoE damage
Elemetalist: water fields, statics, AoE … AoE …. AoE
Necro: Conditions… Conditions everywhere for everyone. Corrupt Boon effect, Fear
Mesmer: Veil, Teleport, Null Field
All these examples are utilities a big group NEEDS.
We bring some nice little gimicks to a group… like Healing Spring, Warhorn Buff, Entangle…. but overall any of the above brings way more way important utilities.
So just stick to small group/single roaming (we do pretty good here), stick to the commander (no one will care about your build) or search for a more casual guild.
mooty sad it all!!!
I prefer the Long Bow.
The raw damage output on Short Bow is way better…. still Longbow brings more handy utilities to the table.
The problem behind all this math is (WvW, PvP-wise) you can not write down the utility of each weapon.
3s Stealth every 9.5 sec… thats about 30% the time stealth. (you can possibly evade 30% of direct damage)
A knockdown/interrupt with 12s cooldown
Then sb got a possible stun and evade… All these things affect the effectiveness of the weapon!
Well It really depends on the build you are using so I will not rank it:
Mesmer, Necro and engineer are the ones that turn me crazy!!!
These are really hard fights because we have so bad condi cleanses.
Thief, (bear bow) Rangers are the easiest to play against in my opinion.
Guardian, Ele… not big danger but I would say no easy kill.
Warrior depends really kitten his/your build… Could be unkillable or on par with Guardian/Ele.
You’re not the Ranger I ran into on Piken who ran almost the same build as me ^^?
I am xD
One of those unimpressive nature’s voice shout builds :P Running Runes of Antitoxin, 0/0/30/30/10, settler’s/apothecary gear, canines for CC, and signet of wild/“Guard!” with a third utility that is always different.
My server is in the same boat. Them feels man.
I use a similiar more Power/Crit based build.
0/20/20/30/0
clestial gs/lb, cleric armor, berserker amulet, celestial rings, cleric accessories and cavalier backback.
2x water, 4x altruism runes, sigils of battle
guard, SoW, LR, RaO
90% the time jungle stalker, brown bear when needed
I really enjoy this setup!
I easily maintain perma swiftness, regen, fury, 12+ might and almost perma vigor and protection.. aaaaaaaaaaaaaand 36s of stability (hell yeah)
This setup has big surivability (healing 350+/s, 20000+ HP, only 1500 tghnss but 60-80% protection uptime) and still deals massive direct damage…. (4k maul crits.)
Faux´s setup is awesome aswell but I´m just in love with lb/gs.
@Benjamin: I use a similiar lb/gs build when I´m not in the mood for a bunker setup.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/I-introduce-you-my-LB-GS-CONDITION-build/first#post3166521
Power Rangers are rangers who get their damage output from POWER and direct damage.
(edited by ChioChip.5970)
Don’t play a power ranger
Condi Regen Bunkers do well against these things. Try a 0/0/30/30/10 type build
Power Bunkes do well against these things too!!!
Try 0/20/20/30/0 Cleric/Celestial/Berserker, go for nature voice spam guard.
You´ll perma heal for 350/s have perma swiftness/regen/fury and almost perma vigor/ protection.
With my 80% boon duration RaO grants me 36s of stability… I laugh @ stun warriors and perplexity engis xD
Btw… witch this setup my maul still crits above 4k.
Err, hammer before staff please. Bunny thumper!
Spear!!! (not only in water combat)
I 100% agree with the op!
The only utility´s that give me the feeling I actually DO something is LR and Muddy
Maybe QZ… but hey you attack a bit faster for 6sec and then you wait a min.
LB1 arrow flies so slow that you can kite it by just walking sideways.
Necro´s Axe1 always hits (except for evades)… is this meant to be overpowered or is this just broken?
I agree with Cufu!
Immobbilize and cripple work very well with power builds.
Usually you invest 30 points in MM for a power build.
So you already got increased condi duration and for cripple, chill, immobilize you don´t even need condi damage to reach full effectiveness.
Is this build for PVE oder Wvw(PvP)?
Everything is passive atm , so it’s pretty bad.
Renewal is okay I guess if you’re feeling manly, but the heavy cooldown and requirement for the pet to be nearby can be hard to manage. For example if a 30/30 necro just happens to ruin your day when your pet is too far, Renewal can’t really save you.
I kinda’ wish Anet gave us more options to cleanse that DIDN’T require 30 in WS. Like, oh I dunno, 2 condi-cleanse on pet swap. Wtb some active play pls.
I got 30 in WS and Empathic Bond and still I NEED healing spring.
Cleanses every 10s are just so random… if your unlucky a necro spams his conditions on you and they las for 9s and you cant do anything about it.
after looking at this i’ve realized It’s a sad sad day for rangers everywhere
?
There are two options in my opinion!
1.) Full Soldiers and smth like 30/20/20/10/0 for example
You´ll be a freaking tank so you could be in the frontline BUT remember you´ll not do as much damage as warriors and will not be as supportive as guardians!
AND you don´t get on demand condition cleanses.2.) Go full DAMAGE a mix of zerker/valk.
Stay in the backline… Be a sniper, burst ppl down.
Even if your squishy you can avoid most damage in a zerg fight if you just stay behind the frontline.
A full zerkers barrage is extreme powerfull.I personally go full zerker when zerging and usually I don´t die a lot cuz of the 1500 range advantage.
You have 10 too many points in that stat spread.
hahahahaha you´re right
30/10/20/10/0
I don´t see that the GS is a defensive weapon?
It got a block and evades… okay I give that to you.
But Hiltbash to Maul is one of the or maybe the best burst our class got.
It´s pretty balanced imo… good damage + defensive + utility
I think the GS is our most complete weapon just like it is.
Yes some tweakings here and there… a blast finsiher would be nice.
I think there are other weapons which should be fixed instead.

- Norn Tier 3 shoulder
- Rahwide Leather Coat
- any pants
- Golden Longbow
… is a good approach i guess.
Don´t forget about Ruby Orbs… In some cases I prefer these over sholar/ranger
So as long as the ranger stays underwater he cant die right?
Do you have access to interrupt?
Done ranger dead.
Sigil of torment on longbow, you’ll thank me later
I rethought about it and I think in THIS setup torment is not viable.
Because I´m aiming to immobilize my enemy as long and often as i can… a condition that develops its full potential when moving is a bit paradox in this case xD
Switching the Drakehound to Wolf and Jungle to Forest Spider and Muddy Terrain for whatever… THEN I think Torment would be a great addition.
Dear Anet,
with Runes Of Rerplexity you introduced effects that trigger on interrupt.
I really really like this mechanic…. it rewards SMARTER playstyles.
You would add a whoule bunch of new builds!
For example you don’t need precision anymore to stack conditions effectively but instead you need to time your interrupts just right.
Please line up the “On-interrupt” effects (don’t have to be just conditions) with the on-kill, on-crit… etc
Perplexity runes will probably be nerfed soon. If your build relies on them, you might want to rethink it.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Perplexity-runes/page/2#post2994201
ooooooch. that would be bad xD
Thx. for the information.
I hope they nerf them not to hard so they will still be viable.
If they do I’ll go back to a full power setup.
I really enjoy this “on interrupt” -mechanic…. it engages to play smarter and not just spam on crit condis with high precision.
Maybe they’ll give us some more “on interrupt” runes/sigils with other effects.
Yeah you missing something!
1. The applied confusions last 10s base and 18s (+30% runes + 50%food/trait)
2. You get THREE stacks of confusion every 15 sec
3. LB4 interrupts easily…. (here you got your usual 8 stacks!)
4. LB4 -> swoop -> hilt bash combo can stack to 13 confusions
5. G4 interrupts aswell. (another 5 stacks)
Here is my rotation for max confusion stacks:
LB4 -> GS3 -> GS5 -> GS2 -> GS4 back to LB4
If you are timing right and you are lucky you can stack 20 stacks by this + 3 stack on cirt. = total of 23 stacks
But 8-13 stacks are way more common
This build works because people want to kill you or defend… they constantly use skills you just have to learn when to interrupt.
(edited by ChioChip.5970)
thats right… With torment i have a potential of 7 conditions on target.
Would be pretty hard to cleanse i guess xDD
Any chance you could make a video? I’m really interested in seeing this in action in WvW.
I planned to record something.
@chopps: Thought @ that aswell… but the damage from bleeds is higher
Even, im not sure it will work, most power builds work with might stacks and you dont have them. Maybe that conditions compensate for the might lack.
Think it will be better after next update when pet swop gives might, and with 2 battle sigils…smthing smthing…
The damage is not full zerker high but the damage output is reaaaaaaally no issue.
For example:
- My maul crits arround 4-5k (6-7 after interrupt)
- 1k-2k damage on skil use (confusion)
- 500/s from bleeds
And yes I think the december patch will seriously buff my build
longbow can work with Conditions, it requires Sigil of Earth and Sharpened Edges and enough crit to do it, but it can most diff work.
I thought about sharpend edges but the damage really is covered… control/defensive skills make you a bit more survivable.
Projectile finishers do very little to help us. We need access to blast finishers
Maul totally could be a blastfinisher…. look at the animation xDD
Yooooooo!
I just want to share my current WvW build with you.
I’m currently tweaking it so I really appreciate every tipp/critic from other rangers.
Why I’m a LB/GS ranger:
Since day one when I started my ranger I knew I wanted to play the longbow!
The Longbow will alway be THE ranger weapon for me in any game.
To bad the LB lags in damage but its an awesome “control” weapon… knock back + stealth make up a decent bit of damage for me.
Since I was determined to play LB I learned to love the GS.
I just love it… evades, blocks, dazes, stuns, mobility and decent damage (maul).
So I planned my build arround these two weapons.
inspired mostly by xsorus: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Ranger-Dazer-Hybrid-Build-2-0-Movie
Stats: (x/y = depends on weapon set)
~3000 Attack
42%/47% Crit Chance (~60% after perception stacking)
90%/80% Crit Damage
890/940 Condition Damage
50% Conditon Duration
2420/2500 Armor
18100/17300 HP
Traits: 10/30/30/0/0
Marksmanship Adept: I like Steady Focus most but Keen Edge and Malicious Training are also goodies.
Skirmishing: Nothing suprisingly here… reduced lb cooldown, bleed on crits MoC for the many interrupts.
Wilderniss Surival: reduced Surival/GS cooldowns + Empathic Bond.
Sigils and Runes:
-6x Rune of Perplexity: With this you turn LB and GS to AWESOME condition weapons. You’ll interrupt ALOT. Stacking 8 confusions is more than usual, 13 stacks mostly and 18-23stacks are possible. (Confusion lasts 18s… sick right?)
- Sigil of Earth on LB: More bleeds! Mostly a condition cover for you confusion but 5-6 Stacks of bleed do a bit damage aswell!
- Sigil of Venom: Swap to GS swoop in and boom 7.5s of poison on target. more condition covers for your confusion + less healing!!
(- I usually stack with sigil of perception before I start my raid… because the bleeds and the Critdamage will profit)
Slot skills:
- Heal is really situationall… I swap here and there. Mostly HS or HaO
- SoH: Since you are a roamer…. this i a must have.
- Muddy Terrain: paired with +50% condidutation + Spider immobs (2x) and Drakehound immob and cripple you will slowdown and immobilize ALOT
-LR: More Dodges + Stunbreaker + Mobility
- Elite: Mostly RaO but Entangle works well too!
Summary:
- LB/GS
- high direct damage! (3000 attk, 90% crit damage)
- 8-23 stacks of confusion
- many condition covers (bleed, vul, poison, cripple, immob)
- controlling the enemy (immob, knockbacks, interrupts, stealth)
- no glasscannon but not a tank/bunker
- no on demand condition cleanse (like most rangers)
I love this build!
But I think the learning curve is really high… I’m far away from using the full potential of this build.
(edited by ChioChip.5970)
FINALLY! I really apreciate this Anet!
This is a well needed buff I was waiting for!
It´s the first step in the right direction!
I like the food more i guess…
It´s hard to stack torment effectivly.
I like how torment works but the bleed stacks from sigil of earth deal way more damage for me.
Question:
“The RANGEr is in most RPGs known as a sneaky Master of the Bow. How do you feel about that most rangers play a tanky, sword/axe-swinging healer in gw2?”
I ask this because I started playing a Ranger because i expected to be the number one archer class in the game but instead I don´t feel like the ranger is superior at using bows.
Also he didn’t claim they are easy, he claimed that the number of baddies has gone up.
Looks like most of ppl in this topic miss this small fact.
Thank you so much!!!
I never said warrior(builds) are bad (actually i said the exact opposite)… I know if I met a Warrior with the same/higher skill level I´ll lose.
But i feel like the number of Warriors who understand their class (pvp) has largely decreased in compareision to other classes (except thiefs).
This is just my opinion! I don´t claim to be an awesome wvw player or that all warriors are noobs.
i met a ranger like you with my warrior in WvW once . He died
Dude… you don´t even know me.
Anyway I didn´t say all Warriors are noobs but because of this whole inflation thing the percentage of real good Warriors decreased extremly imo.
Hey ranger fellas!
We all know the warrior is getting more and more overpowered with every update!
BUT!
I usually use my LB/GS ranger for WvW roaming and warriors are just easy targets for me… they literally die like flys!
I feel like EVERYONE rerolls a warrior because he thinks he can roll his head on the keyboard and kill anything… so 1/10 warrior really knows his class and 9/10 have no idea how to play this class.
Is it just me or did u notized smth similiar?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Shortbow-Longbow-setup-for-Zerging
This is an awesome build using rampagers….
I even used it for roaming cuz no one expects a ranger to stack 25bleeds in a few sec.
They closed my topic… where we only talked about petitions in general.
To bad this will be closed soon
If somebody didn’t know yet:
With this trick you can also mix vigil, order and priory armor at one single char.
That’s what Anet seems to be playing with us rangers. Balance patch after balance patch, rangers are an afterthought. Hell, the devs couldn’t even find the trait they were looking for yesterday. It’s like they’re challenging us to keep playing this class even though it is arguably the weakest in the game. That, or reroll another character or reroll another MMO. Well, you know what Anet? I always root for the underdog… I’m even a Cubs fan. Your game of chicken won’t work on me. I play this class not because it’s the best overall class, or offers the most group support, or has the highest DPS, or because it has a “cool” class mechanic, etc. I play this class because in every RPG I’ve ever played, I most enjoy the medium armor-wearing, bow-slinging, nature-oriented class. You’re not gonna make me main a warrior (had one at 80… also have a thief, mesmer and ele at 80) because, simply, I don’t want to.
Ranger is my class. I’ve survived your game of chicken for a year and now it’s time to reap a reward or two. Today’s patch was certainly not it. Seriously take a long look at this class – play it for a while, really read what rangers are saying – and give us some balance with the other classes. Take a real good look at the class mechanic and see where our frustration comes from. Protection while I roll and more hp doesn’t mean better pets, come on, either improve the AI or let us perma stow the pets. Give us more counter play than a 4-second reveal that we have to use before target stealths. Give us more group support, give us the better numbers on our weapons we were led to believe we’d see today, give us traits that make sense in our trait tree. The ranger community has been asking for these things for a long time now and you’ve yet to deliver. You’re playing chicken with us that truly want to love this class. Well I’m not flinching, Anet. I will log on today, play my Ranger in WvW, and wait – just like the rest of us have for over a year.
+1
Ranger for life!!!
But I´m extremly disappointed
