“If you hate MMO’s you’ll really want to check out Guild Wars 2”
- Mike O’Brien

An outdated quote. As a business evolves so does its ideology. To survive you must satisfy as wide of a range of players as you can. One way to do this is implementing raids. It doesn’t effect the casual community because they can… oh I don’t know… not raid… While the hardcore community is happy.

An outdated quote for sure, but it explains why a lot of people are here. Acting like it never existed, like this game didn’t change course drastically, and blaming people for being in the wrong type of game when what they got into was a different type of game, that’s just rude and ignorant.

Dear Sir, i just logged in to applaude you and to tell you if there were more people like you, not just in gaming but in all corners of life, maybe we wouldnt keep getting wrecked by the powers above that always find a way to do what they want instead of delivering what was promised.

I have much respect for ANet, but GW2 is not the game that was promised anymore.

Sill, i know that this label has the power and the know-how to change things around, forget about NCSoft because they only manage crap and destined to fail games, and push GW2 to success.

Precursor crafting. I don't get it . . .

When legendary crafting was first announced, it was talked about how the most frustrating part of obtaining a legendary weapon, was of course: The precursor.

https://youtu.be/gxLkfXwxLTs?t=34m49s

Now. This had me pretty excited, since throwing money at the TP was… Well, not fun. Now I finally completed the first collection for Zap. I got my pattern, learned it, and went to check and see what I needed to craft this item. It became immediately clear, that the cost of materials, was not going to be part of the world, but rather, the TP. I find myself at an impasse. Where moving forward requires me to do, what I had hoped I wouldn’t have to do.

I have two choices. To throw money at the TP. Or avoid crafting this precursor. I had expected, or I suppose hopped that moving through the collection would have me doing challenges, and working towards obtaining the item. Not just simply buying the materials off the TP. To make matters worse, the crafting items in question are ascended, which means: Time gating.

So I really just don’t understand it. I thought the idea behind the collection was to have players running around completing challenges to obtain this amazing item. Not throwing money at the TP, as if the collection just didn’t exist.

Or you can play the game and treat it like a checklist of things to get.

The problem is, ‘playing the game’ for me involves being in fractals, or the maguuma jungle. Neither of which give me access to iron, mithril or many other materials needed to craft the ascended items needed to make the precursor.

SO I have to buy them. But if I am going to buy them, then the cost of the item in question is about as high as the actual precursor on the tp

SO why would I do the precursor crafting when it results in doing the same thing as just buying the item, except I have to jump a few hoops as well.

I always have been a fan of games that promote end objectives, or a given goal, through game timed objectives. If you spent time playing you should be given a clear progression towards completing a goal. No grind, no market day job, no gold sink.

GW2 is left standing on the middle. The mechanisms are there, but dont work as they should, this is my opinion ofc.

I really dont know whats the purpose of such a high ladder to give a player a legendary. I really dont.

Does ANet think theres more generated income by doing so? Perhaps, but the other side of the coin is the frustration many players feel about this and thats also a wieght in the balance of revenue. I would prefer makes things easier and make everyone happy so they could remain in the game.

Im one of those players that spends money in the game when im happy, not when i need to achieve something. Take that in mind.

Having fun with HoT though. The new maps are so amazing. Lets see what the future brings.

Why i never saw this one before is just crazy. Not only shows how badly this section of the forum needs some attention, but also how good GW2 fan art is.

Really glad Gaile is trying to bring a most deserved beam of light to our artists. I have seen some really great stuff.

We all know that behind bits and bytes, there are people.

Beyond computer development, there are lives and stories.

We could all be so grateful for the fact that everywhere around us theres a person with a story to tell, and a friend with the same troubles and secret wishes.

There are people alone in this world, so alone that if we told them that we play a game involving millions of people around different corners of the world, but our lives are so full and busy that we rarely have the chance to meet anyone, they would not believe us.

So, i am a bit more grateful to have the chance to read this and get to know a bit more of someone i have never seen before, but that impacts me everyday.

Ty to the OP for the post.

Hi Gaile,

What about making the community showcase a monthly event?

ANet could have a monthly contest for GW2 related fan art, maybe add some gem rewards for the 3 top spots, add some form of media presentation in the youtube channel every month to showcase the submissions, and i think its a win win for continued community development support, GW2 art and game promotion to the general public. This could grab some players to join GW2.

Maybe do some larger community art showcase related to special events, like the upcoming Halloween, and spreading same showcase to both DeviantArt and Tumbler…

…hey…schhh… remember this one?

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Clerigo.9475

Clerigo.9475

I want to remind everyone that this isn’t a discussion about precursors or specific rewards, that’s a different conversation. This is a discussion of the pro/cons and philosophy behind different forms of RNG implementation.

Sorry John, i didnt saw this quote from you….8 months ago…boy oh boy am i a late fisherman.

So, as it stands, for me, any form of RNG is an abomination one needs to get rid off.

We are in 2015 and still this horror construct plagues most video games out there, and what awes me the most is that i have played games with dynamic generated or token generated rewards/item progression back in 1850.

Yes, i have played games where you loot to upgrade a specific item.
Yes, i have played games where the reward is a mere token that you then use to buy what you wish.
Yes, i have played games where loot tables make sense, and not just a legendary something dropping from a bunny eating a carrot, and a pile of salt and a pickle drops from a world boss.

Is this a GW2 issue? OFC not, Its in almost 90% of games of this genre you play.

Fact is, every loot and reward mechanism should act as a true trigger for progression.

What is a progression trigger? Its a mechanism that allows you to advance further in the path towards a defined objective or purpose. I dont know the name in english so i try to explain.

You are given an X item. That X item may be of your interest and so you continue your journey of looting across the virtual space and you are given with again an X item, an Y item and a token. With that token you can chose to combine both X and Y item or upgrade your previous X item or use that token in a virtual store to advance other areas of your interest. This will branch to a hundred possible combinations making for a continued sense of progression.

I have seen this in rpg games like Phantom Dust ( Phantom Dust had no loot system, but rather a true progression system) and Disgaea and i never felt so good looting stuff. Maybe Borderlands was the last game i played with a system i liked.

Maybe one day ANet makes an impact by breaking all rules and pushing a system like this into GW2. Now that would be crazy.

Once upon a time, when all Tyria was at peace, the great 3 orders decided they would make a contest to determine which race is, once and for all, the mightiest.

Norn were drinking, sylvari sleeping, but Humans, Asuras and Charrs didnt even had a minute for thinking.

The challenge was simple: a male rabbit was to be turned loose on the open fields of Kryta, and the force that would faster find it, would emerge victorious.

Millions came across all corners of Tyria to witness, from commoners to kings, and so it begins.

The Humans were first. Gathering the might of Seraph numbers and will, they roamed the land from river to hill, and finally brought the rabbit to justice in just 5 hours.
The crowd cheered and Seraph honour was intact.

Next the Asura. These creatures, opposite of tall, seemed to not be worried at all. Their greatest minds of the College of Dynamics were at work. Combining their intellect prowess, they managed to construct a female rabbit robot that lured the male rabbit into a trap, and so to be captured in just 1 hour.

The crowd was in awe. “Impossible to beat”, was being heard all around.

Next the Charr. Like a raging thunder, the Bloodlegion rushed into the field, cursing and roaring, their infernal machines tumbling down the hill. Catapults, ballistas and trebuchets by the hundreds…it was tragic to see.

The crowd laughing.

After 15 minutes. the Bloodlegion appeared in front of the order judges.

“How can this be?” , “Impossible!”…

The Charr Tribune, standing proud, waves this all beaten up Quaggan to the judges.

A minue of silence that lasts for an eternity, and the Quaggan says:

“I confess, im a rabbit!”

The Arena Wait Time and GvG

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Clerigo.9475

tl;dr : I think that a long timegate on Guild Arenas will make them ineffective at addressing some of the concerns of players who are pushing for them the hardest, and I hope that we can find a smart way to address this before the expansion drops. Hopefully we can get a feedback thread started for ideas.

Really great feedback Benjenx – just want to take a moment and point out this exactly how feedback is best phrased. It’s constructive, thoughtful, and makes great points. This is exactly the kind of feedback we spend our time focusing on reading and listening to – so thank you!

In regards to the time line for the Arena – we discussed as a team and ultimately agree it’s important this building be available early for guilds who really want to acquire it. The base arena building will be available within about two weeks of time after launch (based on aetherium and favor requirements) as long as the guild gets enough gold/materials/etc. acquired from game-play in that two week time to build the building. [TLDR; the fastest any guild could build the building will be about two weeks]

Thanks again for the feedback – we hope you enjoy the arena as much as we do!

This is great great news. TY alot for being here reading and listening to players, and also a big TY to the OP.

Hey all,

If you caught our coverage of TwitchCon, which wrapped up yesterday (9/26/2015), you may already be aware of this, but just to share with the whole creative community:

I’m going to be hosting a new show on our Twitch stream along with our PR Manager Elizabeth Stewart. The show is called Community Showcase Live. We debuted the show yesterday, and it was a ton of fun to show off the creations of our amazing community. Future programs will feature as much art and other fan creations as we can stuff into each episode!

The sky’s the limit, really. The inaugural show had drawings, paintings, sculptures, digital art, figures, recreations of in-game items, cosplay, videos, and even baked goods.

If you’d like to be considered for a future episode, please add your art to our Tumblr page, and be sure to use the hashtag: “GW2 Fan Submission.” That tag gives us permission to share the art on our show.

We want you to continue to display your creativity here on the forums, too. Posting on both places is perfectly fine, just be sure that on the Tumblr you use that all-important tag so we can possibly feature your talent in the future.

Thanks for all that you do to enrich our community!

Im really sorry but this looks too great to be posted only here.

Cant you move this to general discussion and do a sticky? Im sorry, but i love Guild Wars art and, well, this part of the forum doesnt get too many visits.

I play and enjoy other mmos, but i truly can say that the art brought by Dociu and Kotaki to GW2 is the best in all mmorpgs known to man. Richard Anderson also made some of the most daunting concept art i ever saw. His “march of the castle knights” (dont recall the exact name) still haunts my desktop

I would love to see what our lovely players and fans can do, but with a bit more visibility than the one they have now.

Thank you

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Clerigo.9475

Clerigo.9475

This is a spinoff of the economy thread to talk about RNG tactics in games in a general form.
Here’s the premise. RNG is evenly distributed on aggregate. On an individual level this means that while almost everyone falls into a reasonable range in the middle, there are outliers on each side of the distribution that are either highly rewarded or not rewarded at all. These individuals become sample cases and spotlights for experiences that maybe shouldn’t exist.

We do need to be very careful about ideas that flatten the experience entirely as that quickly becomes not fun at all.

There are two concepts that have been discussed in the other thread that I’ll briefly summarize.

1. Use a specifically non-random NG. The NRNG functions similarly to a RNG, but has characteristics that either squish the distribution so that outliers exist much less or specifically manipulate a player’s experience for loot in a more complicated way that makes it feel rewarding.

2. Implement measures that counteract low-end outlier behavior inside of game design. This would be a system that is something like: If player hasn’t received a rare drop in X time send them Y tickets for random drops.

2.5: “Add secondary reward mechanisms (ie. token based system) alongside the primary RNG system; allow progress to be made even when you don’t get the result you want.”

Obviously these are hyper-simplified descriptions, but I don’t want this to get too long.

edit: added 2.5

Is it so hard to just reward players for the time they invest in the game??

I have been playing this game for so long and never had a percursor drop.
I have been playing this game for so long and i have 5 ascended boxes drop.

Just keep current RNG system for the kitten cursed Mystic Forge. Any of the other mentioned systems are totally unthinkable for the forge.

Outside of that, yes please, implement a token system so even if i dont get anything from looting, i still have progression towards something.

PLayers should be reward for the TIME they put into the game. I dont care if there are any other factors outisde of that so that casuals can also smile, i dont care, but i want to be rewarded for the time spent playing the game. Just do it.

Please!!!!

5 buff limit = raids DOA?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Clerigo.9475

Clerigo.9475

I’ve been working on assembling a raid team, but we are having problems due to the buff limit…

In order to optimize our group we are ending up with:

2 PS warriors
2 Staff ele’s
2 Chrono’s
2 Herald’s
2 Guardian’s

Just to give us maximum DPS… this leaves us… 0 raid spots for any other classes. I can’t find any way to justify bringing a thief, a reaper, a ranger, or an engineer into the raid.

Is there a way around the buff limit? Will it be raised to 10 in squad groups? I hate to tell all the other classes they need to just flat out reroll or wait until farm status, but I’m not seeing a way around it right now.

Easy there Warlock. Too soon to tell anything.

No.

For benefit of GW2 and its population, i hope ANet one day comes to realize that mounts should be added in the game.

Just not for WvWvW, and in Pve should give no extra speed or any other additional benefit. But people should be able to have them.

What is “extrapolation” to you, is a wanted reality for others. Will everything happen in gw2 the way most players want it to happen? Perhaps not.

Have i experienced, in another game, all that was and is mentioned in this post and forums? Yes.

Can people expect ANet to close the gap between gw2 content and other mmorpgs content? I hope, if gw2 is to continue in the long run, YES.

Hello,

i think i, and many other gw2 players, said it thousand times: bringing quality content to the game can only make both anet and players happy.

At the end of the rope, this is a business for ANet and a job for their employees, and quality entertainment for us players.

That being said, i can only understand the addition of improvements to the game as a condition that has to be met in order to keep gw2 running in the long term. GW2 needs players, and the players need to be kept entertained. So far, so good.

Now, to everyone that says “no” to almost everything in these forums, you are all silly quaggans.

Things like, mounts, build or template saver, Guild Hals, GvG, Polymock, dungeons, raids, more classes, more playable races, 2v2 and 3v3 ranked arenas, boosted and rewarding meta events (this game has so many amazing meta events, but no1 does them because they r not rewarding enough), etc etc all of this and many other stuff simply adds quality content to the game, and its long overdue.

Will there be balancing issues to be worked on? But ofc, but "thats what living is!! The 6 inches in front of your face! Now i cant make you do it! You’ve got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes. Now I think you going to see a guy who will go that inch with you. "…ok i was a bit lost there..

Im done here. Post too long already for something that almost everyone knows, except the silly quaggans.

Then, just do it!!

yesterday i got a hoard chest from teq, and the day before that i got an exotic, and the day before that i got, well a spoon. what will i get today? who knows, but more to the point who cares? its the same thing every day and no matter how well i do or how lucky my drops it will be the same thing every day. the only sense of progress in this game is unlocking new skins

gw2 suffers from a distinct lack of any kind of progress, i do not feel myself getting more powerful or unlocking new abilities and what skills it does have all level up too quickly or are almost identical to eachother

From all the things you can complaint about gw2, thats the less meaningful.

I can name 1000 games where you have that sense of progression just to be taken away from you with every expansion launched, or the game is pure shaite, or the mechanics are shaite, or the community is shaite, or its bugged like a sugar cup in a picnic table on a sunday spring afternoon.

I too want that sense of progression but, unless you are willing to go play EvE online, i recommend you to go search that feeling in single player rpgs.

Charr: toggle on/off 4-legs running

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

All the NPC:s in the game run on 2 legs. I’d like to do that ASWELL. Please use the “in combat running animation” for 2-legs running with weapons stowed.
The option should be a “checkbox” under options or in the character menu !

Dont get it….2 legs running with weapons stowed?..then when they draw weapons they should be on 4?? How they gonna hold weapons? with their teeth and ears?

If i ever see an option to allow charrs to run on 2, for whatever reason, ill delete all my charrs and make some cabbages

If the airship pass was activated account wide by a hotkey I would buy one right now.

I don’t feel that the pass is really all that good of a deal if I have to micro-manage an inventory item across characters.

I really like the concept of a “VIP” area and an area with condensed convenience.

That’s what this purchase is, its buying convenience, however the convenience is countered with the inconvenience of managing the inventory ticket item. To me its a wash and not worth paying for.

Thats it ty. Thats what i was trying to say and perhaps failed in doing so.

1 all the convenience items work like this copper salvagomatic, permanent harvesting tools, permanent bank access etc why should this one be diffrent?

2 Since the airship is in gendarran fields it make sence it drop you off there

OK, so be it. But wouldnt you agree that my suggestions would make this item more appealing? I mean, im just making improvement suggestions and not trying to explain why it works the way it works…

I agree that ANet should consider some changes to the engine if GW2 is here to stay for the long run, but that does not eliminate the fact that GW2 is the best looking MMORPG in the market, far far far away from anything else.

Captain Airship Pass - Suggestion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Clerigo.9475

Hello,

i just bought the permanent Captain Airship Pass from the GS and i think its a really good purchase.

But, i was a bit appalled to the fact that this airship pass lacks 2 big points of convenience that would make this item not only a great purchase but also a must have for every player, which not only would help boost the sale of this item in the GS but also improve the dynamic of the game powered by this particular item.

So, please, i would suggest that:

1. After the permanent Airship pass is bought, a new icon would be included in the game UI, so that all characters owned by the player can use this service in a more direct way. Currently, it forces players to go deposit the pass in the bank, logout, login with a character, go to the bank and retrieve the pass.

2. After porting from an area to the Havoc, exiting the ship should port you back to the map area the player was in and not to Gendarran Fields.

As i just bought it, if im missing something here or if there is a particular reason why the pass should not function with the suggestions i gave , please let me know.

Thank you.
Love to all.

Im considering making an app and join your ranks. But, i do have some questions that may be of general interest to the rest of the players that may be considering joining you guys.

1st: do you guys have cookies?

2nd: if you would be given a chance to be one of these who would you choose: a fluffy Quaggan or a mighty Koda?

3rd: who wins it in the end: the enterprise, the millenniun falcon or battlestar galactica?

4th: i dont know a kitten thing about dungeons. do you guys teach players how to do dungeons?

TY.

Anyone else underwhelmed by the"Elite" specs?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Clerigo.9475

Clerigo.9475

Hello,

so far the only spec i dislike is, unfortunately, Guardian. I dont mind the name but i do mind the very very weak concept behind it when compared to other specs ive seen so far.

At start i even was hoping for a spec around the spear weapon, like we have in GW1 with the paragon. That dream being crushed, i really think the dragon hunter is lacking a defined purpose with that build we played in the beta.
Something needs to be changed, the dmg output or the basic utility of the weapon skills…or perhaps theres more to it than meets the eye. We shall see when the exp launches.

Sadly i have to agree with the OP when it comes to game change. Are we going to see new metas in the game? Yes ofc. But, will the new metas scale equally with the changes coming to the game? I dont know, and im a bit afraid that zerker metas continue to dominate the game…i hope not…we shall see when the exp launches.

That being said, i really like what i have seen so far, and i hope that ANet wishes to shake the game foundation to its core and bring not only new content, but also new playstyles.

Cheers to every1 at ANet and keep up the good work guys. Remember, we love you, but we will love you even more if you guys nail this expansion.

Agreed +1

My guild is growing, 4 new people in the last three weeks.

Congratz. My guild has many returning people that were away for 4+ months, and many of them already pre-ordered.

I think ill put the number between 25/30 returning players.

Why are we the self defeating community?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Clerigo.9475

Clerigo.9475

Well, in WvW and sPvP im having fun that i can only match to the fun i had pre-confusion nerf years ago…. i feel currently that Mesmer has a proper balance against any other class in pvp

PvE, sadly, its a different story. Yes, Mesmer needs a trait line that offers players a chance to not be that “support” class, but a dps one of they like.

As stated above, we should let ANet launch the upcoming HoT and see where the new meta lands…

Me? i think ANet knows what they are doing and that HoT will bring much to the meta table.

I really enjoyed my time spent in GW2 over this past year.
I loved playing Season 2 story, doing the achievements and being rewarded for doing so.
Having great fun in Dry Top and Silverwastes.

I enjoy the way Lion Arch looks now, dont destroy it again :P

I love how the skill traits works now, but we really need more variety. You guys really really need to add more skills, both in weapons and trait, so people can play a bit with builds. I know for a fact that people love playing with builds Having at least 1 more talent/skill per trait for each class would do great things. I know its hard to find the balance after, but give it a go.

We need more dungeons

Looking forward to HoT.

Already pre-ordered….yes, yes, the Ultimate Edition, ANet deserves it. And ty for the 50% gem disccount .

I love Guild Wars 2 and the friends in my guild.

Any chance for a new playable race? Tengu? Koda?

Did i already said that i love you guys?
