I noticed there wasn’t a fall damage trait in the ele’s water specialization. Will that be added to some other trait line or acquired by some other means? Maybe through a jumping mastery line?
I’ve also seen rock dogs from the ogre runes. That was a quick match.
1. Step and fetch task:
I know. Boring right? Sure, but a good way to give the players a look into the world of Tyria. Imagine a human merchant in DR that needs someone to take a package to a charr merchant in BC as a sign of good faith to insure future business dealing. It could be an interesting way to show the budding peace between these two races. Speaking of budding, you could have an asura in Rata Sum who wants you to fetch some exotic plant from a Sylvari in one of the towns of Caledon forest and bring it back to him. Maybe even get a special reward like a one time use tonic. We could even have special event specific ones. For example, an asura in Rata Sum wants you to deliver a specialty fireworks launcher to LA for dragon bash, and upon completion the launcher shoots off and you get a light show on top of your task completion reward.
2. Exploration task:
“I hear tales of treasure from that insert locale here over there. If you’re the adventuring type, you may want to go check it out.” Boom. Reasons to do mini dungeons and jumping puzzles. To reiterate, these are not active at all times, guiding everyone to every secret all the time. But they could show up randomly to push players in the right direction for exploring. The trigger for completing the task could be the same trigger that gives you the achievement the first time through.
3. Hunting task:
We’ve all seen them around. Random champions out in the world without an event associated with them. How boring. So how about, if the champion has been alive for a certain length of time, the task to hunt said champion has a chance to show up in whatever nearby camp. This would of course be much harder than the 1. or 2. task and it should say as much, but it should come with increased rewards. Like a significant amount of silver. Enough to make people jump for joy when a hunting task appears on their map and then call in guildies and everyone in map chat to come join the fight. I think it should range between 30-50s for lvl 80 players to incentivize them to join a hard fight they might otherwise not have bothered with. This type of task is the exception I talked about earlier. If the champion is killed while the task giver is active and you have the task but did not take part in the fight, the task should cleared from your active task. A “task incompleted” message should show up in the top right of the screen much like event messages. This kind of limited time only feature of this task type is to balance the large reward.
4. Story task:
A weird one. I’m just going to give you a specific example I thought of earlier rather than explain the whole idea. It’s dark btw. Just a fair warning.
Let’s assume for a second that this task system was already in place and that these hints that we are going into the areas west of Brisban are legit. Imagine there’s a seraph soldier in DR. He’s sitting in a bar and he has a task. Just listen to his tale. That’s it. He tells you of an expedition he was a part of past Brisban. One day him and his squad are ambushed by bandits. Dozens of them. The seraph squad flees from the hopeless fight, but one of them falls to an arrow as they retreat. The remaining four squad members elude the bandits and wait until nightfall when they can move under the cover of darkness. But it takes a turn for the worse. As they move through the jungle area, a great beast, one that he later learns only comes out at night, attacks them. The beast slaughters his other squad members while he luckily escapes and hides until morning. As the sun comes up and the terrifying calls of the beast subsides, he comes out to find the scattered remains of bones and seraph armor. Unable to leave them like that, he gathers them up and takes them to a great tree by a waterfall and buries them there, the few bones placed randomly in the three graves with the armor as he cannot tell who they belong to. He sets up three stones at the head of the graves to act as a tombstone, then a fourth one to honor his comrade who fell to the bandits. After his grim task he wearily travels back home to Kryta.
Woo. I know. Dark. Now imagine when the new zone opens up, there actually ARE some terrible monsters that only spawn at night. The waterfall and tree from the story are ACTUALLY THERE in the game world, and underneath it’s branches there are three graves marked with plain stones and a fourth stone lined up next to them. That would be SO amazing, and there is no end to the creative things that could be done like this with very little work needed to make it happen. Just need someone to write a story for a character and a small piece of evidence of it left within the game world.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading my ideas. The more I think about it, the more I feel this game NEEDS some kind of system like this and I would like to get the community to back me up here.
I posted this idea on the subreddit a long time ago, but I’ve refined it some. Thought I should post it here.
I know that ANet wants to stay away from traditional quests. The dynamic event system is indeed powerful, but I think the game still needs a form of questing. So I bring you “Tasks”.
Tasks are given out by NPCs in cities and other safe zones, much like quests. But unlike quests, they are not always active if you have not completed it and are even repeatable if you happen across the same one. They activate randomly for a certain amount of time, like dynamic events, and will be marked on the map with their own special marker that you must be within a certain range to see(like dynamic events). They are also instanced to every player like gathering nodes so everyone could click on them. The Task giver would have their own dialog explaining what they need, or what troubles they are having or whatever is relevant to the task before you are given the option to accept the task.
Upon accepting the task the game will bring up the map, much like the scouts out in the world or the in-game mail from the living story to indicate where to go for the task and to maybe give some more specific details regarding the task.
The task will be added to a “Task Tab” on your hero panel that shows all active task, and task that you have completed before. All tasks will have a description of the task, and the active ones will have a “Show me” button much like the living story mails. Any important item related to the task will show up here, much like the items in the personal story tab, instead of taking up space in your inventory.
Any active task that you have you will always be able to complete, even if the task giver has timed out and is no longer giving out the task(one exception listed below).
Task rewards will be much like completing a dynamic event. Based on difficulty and scaled to your characters level.
EXAMPLES: Just some of my ideas.

I opened six chests on Friday night and got three scraps. That seems pretty good.
RNG gods have blessed you. I opened 30 and got 3.
I like the preview pictures and audio clips. I really do. They inform you on the upcoming story better than the old release page does, and they can show the more subtle changes in the world. But I don’t like the fact that I have to look at a map and hunt for a bunch of glowy dots, that are often not showing up. I have to go to gw2 news sites and the subreddit and start hunting for some coordinates that you could have just as easily given to me.
I thought the Atlas was supposed to make it easier to get into the story. Why are you adding this layer of difficulty to learn what could be very important story elements?
Take it from me, a guy who has payed very close attention to the living world story from the beginning, do not hide these pictures and audio clips like this. Trying to keep track of GW2’s story is already like a part-time job. It needs to be easier to get into, not more difficult.
Oh and I’m sure warriors would like a 2nd healing skill
HA! So true.
If I give up my healing signet for anything I will be pleasantly surprised.
I’m reminded of a game I played with my brother where we tried to swallow water while the other slapped us repeatedly on the back. HAHA!OOoohhh….my childhood…
She tells you what her goal is in the short story. Scarlet for me was way too easy to figure out.
No she does not. If you disagree then give me a quote or even better tell me in your own words what you think Scarlet’s true goal is. Don’t just say, “That’s wrong I’m smarter than you.”
I know there’s a lot of Scarlet hate on the lore forums. I feel a lot of it is exaggerated, but I have to agree with it because we have not been told one specific important thing.
Her goal.
We know she convinced the flame legion and dredge to work together. We know she got the inquest to develop weapons and equipment for her pirate army. We know she was behind the assassination of Theo Ashford(It was that guy right? I’m bad with names…). When we finally get to see who’s behind all this, she just seems like a crazy person with godly powers and no plan. The short story telling us she wants to write her own destiny that’s not bound by the will of the pale tree or the nightmare was not enough, and we have waited waaaaaay to long for this character to really be fleshed out.
You have the dots. Connect them. We don’t have to put a stop to all of Scarlet’s plans right at this second, but at least let us know what her plans actually are.
That’s all I feel is missing from the living world. The story.
Scarlet is an engineer and weaponcrafter.
I know. I’m just saying she’s fascinated by mesmer magic. It intrigues her like nothing else does. Portals for her robot army are nice, but why go the extra mile to make it effortless for herself? She even blinks in the first Jubilee story instance it’s so easy for her. Why not just use the impressive portal technology already made by Asura in the story to move her army around? And as Konig and Drax said, Ellie made holograms with a physical form that could fight, but Scarlet did something similar and made them explosive, simulating a mesmer’s shatter. This, along with the fact that she tried to kidnap Queen mesmer, and with the college of synergetic’s experimentation into mind altering tech makes me think she sees mesmer magic as a means to some end.
Some people on reddit have said that scarlet would not need to be involved in the upcoming patch because the krait are well known for having powerful mesmers(did not know this. when i think krait I think harpoon pulls and poison) and would be capable of hiding a tower. But even so she might want to ally with these powerful mesmers in order to use them. She failed at getting the Queen so why not?
Oh yeah. I forgot about Ellie.
I think I found another piece that connects. So we know that Scarlet is an absurd super genius. She learns trades from people all over the continent and even goes to all 3 Asuran colleges. And what’s the Asuran college that was the only place she felt stimulated her super brain enough? Synergetics.
“Synergetics took quite a bit longer, however, as Ceara finally found a field of study that was a boundless as her interest. She immersed herself in Synergetics’ miasmic mix of mystical energy patterns and arcane probabilities; in its focus on chaos theory and mapping unpredictable connections; in the pursuit of hidden knowledge and secret mechanisms derived in equal parts from the contemplation of the ephemeral and the application of the practical.” – From the short story “What Scarlet Saw”
The headmaster of Synergetics and her run an experiment where she is placed into a large device that, basically, gives her visions. The device directly interacts with her brain and the headmaster even says, “The module’s one shortcoming is that it can’t record what your mind experiences. If you don’t come back or can’t articulate what you’ve learned, it will all be for naught.”
During this experiment Scarlet learns things she should not know, and it even seems to give her a new found power. There’s another device in the game that also interacts directly with the brain and makes people learn things they should not know. Remember in the preview of world 3 in the Super Adventure Box? You’re given a task by a strange genie, that Moto apparently didn’t put in there, to go destroy the true enemy’s lab. This is the lab of Moto’s old krewe, a Synergetics krewe, and they are working on a device that apparently forces knowledge into a persons brain. Seemingly unknown knowledge as well. During their test run of the device the Asura mutters some nonsense about waffles and afterwards says something like,“What’s a waffle?”
But there’s a third device. The one made by Moto. An Asura who was in the same krewe working on the same machine that interacts with the brain. His is the Super Adventure Box. A device that makes the illusion of a game world and plants it directly into a persons head.
“In every direction, the room—made of tile and metal—was transformed. Stylized blocky green grass sprung out of the floor while the ceiling was painted a rich blue dotted with smiling white clouds. Along the floor, flowers perked up in the grass, and rows of trees emerged in silent splendor.” – From the short story “Shadowbox”
Now I’m not going to pretend I know where all this is going, but EVERYTHING about Scarlet seems to somehow connect to mesmer or mesmer-like magic.
Posted on reddit as well http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1p0xn8/scarlets_fascination_with_mesmers/
(edited by CodeE.4857)
But if she was after kidnapping Jennah – rather than killing her like she tried (you wouldn’t shoot a rocket at the person you’re trying to kidnap)
She is trying to kidnap her. Watch the closing ceremony again. Scarlet says,“Oh…and I’ll be taking your Queen with me.”
Assuming Faren is a mesmer (can’t remember myself, no point looking it up), if a mesmer of his caliber would suffice for whatever she has planned then she would be better served just trying to kidnap a player character. Jennah is incredibly powerful. The second book told us as much.
And I didn’t say she was USING mesmer magic, I said she was ENGINEERING mesmer magic. Sure the portals are based on Asuran tech, but she has found a way to use them freely, without a gate like a mesmer. Same thing with the holograms. They may have come up before, but never like that, and NEVER explosive. She’s using her knowledge of magitech to imitate powerful mesmer spells. Clearly she’s getting better at it to because she managed to hide an enormous tower from view completely.
Also, Trouble at the Roots does not have holograms. The images seen during that mission are there because you had to drink the drugged beverage with Waine to get him to drink it. That mission is the Guild Wars 2 story version of a bad trip.
Has anyone else noticed this?
When we first get to see Scarlet making a move against us, she’s trying to kidnap queen Jenna, an extremely powerful mesmer. We know she’s trying to kidnap her because Lord Faren falls when he tries to save Queen Jenna(illusion) who should have taken that fall, and he’s still alive despite falling from such a height. So clearly there was some way to catch someone who fell down there. Unrelated note: I think her putting Faren in the pot was her being mad that she didn’t get the queen…and she’s psycho.
Also, while she does take control of the clockwork knights and has a robot/pirate/molten army, I felt like her biggest power was portals. A mesmer skill. In fact she flaunts her portals. Opens one right in the middle of the grand pavilion.
Sound a little shallow? Then how about this?
In the new TA path there’s some new menace that Scarlet has been working on. The big clockwork oakheart right? WRONG. That is just a distraction. A side experiment that she threw together because she’s a nutter butter. The biggest threat present in the new TA path was the holograms. Illusions. Hundreds of them. That even SHATTER.
She is clearly engineering mesmer magics, but to what end? What was she going to use Queen Jenna for?
A lot of people are saying they don’t want Scarlet to be involved with this upcoming patch with the krait, BUT THE TOWER IS HIDDEN BEHIND A GIANT MESMER ILLUSION. The Nightmare Court, people Scarlet has already made some agreement with, are playing some part as well. If Scarlet’s not involved I will eat my hat.
So what do you guys think?
Hell…I just stayed at range and looked up and avoided candy corn…This way sounds a lot easier.
Well if the latest short story is accurate, Thorn didn’t put the box where it was at all. That’s just where it ended up after hundreds of years.

This should stay in the game to compensate for the nerfs.
A checkpoint that kills you whenever it feels like it followed by a bugged checkpoint that sends you back to the murder point? I’d take the kitten water spouts and w/e else they took out over this any day.
I can confirm this. Been stuck here for awhile. The 2nd trampoline jump is hellishly difficult with just a little bit of lag so there’s these long periods of me jumping to my death before going to the next area and trying another path just to get owned by invisible spikes. It’s the only part in SAB that’s just made me want to quit trying.
What events are you having a problem with exactly? Is it a champ event, or just one with a whole lot of enemies at once?
I can assume from some of your posts that you are not in the best gear and I can understand getting frustrated being unable to do some content just because the enemies are far stronger than you, but let me ask you this. If ANet tuned all their events to be fairly easily doable by people in less than optimal gear, where’s the challenge for people in optimal gear?
When I was leveling, and even at 80 when I was still in greens there were a number of events I couldn’t solo. One particularly nasty one in ML comes to mind. But as I got more gear and started experimenting with more builds I was able to do these harder events by myself. It felt like I was really progressing and learning.
My point is, I think you’re looking at it the wrong way. You shouldn’t have a character who is in any way less than optimal and think you can just roll through any event. A event you can’t complete should be a motivation to progress your character further.
So all the crafting trees will be able to make ascended gear now, so our armor and weapon crafters will have a lot of unascended slots to fill. But what about jewel crafting? We already have our full accessory set of ascended, and the gem stats are already a part of the gear. So what does that leave us? Will we be able to make special infusions? Will ascended armor not have the jewel stats already attached like the ascended accessories we have now?
I think you should change PvP to become more familiar to PvE and WvW. Or allow the option to remain the same in PvP. By that I mean when you enter heart of the mists you should retain your items and stats (weapons, armor, ect) that you have in PvE and WvW.
I DO NOT PLAY PVP EVEN THOUGH I…
Yea, I stopped reading here. If you don’t take the time to learn the ins and outs and even the whole purpose(no stat difference, purely balanced) of spvp don’t start telling the devs what they need to do to it.
The hardcore players are running out of things to do in PvE. The updates are coming out a little faster but there hasn’t been one update after Wintersday that I didn’t manage to complete entirely within a few hours. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy some of the updates, but there simply wasn’t enough content and none of the content was worth playing through repeatedly except maybe the molten dungeon. So what to do? What can be added into the game that will stay in the game for good and will still give players a sense of adventure long after it’s put in?
More, and more interesting, fractals!
Here’s my ideas:
1. Just simply more. A bigger pool of fractals will make it less likely for you to get the same ones over and over and over.
2. Another boss fractal. We all know Jade Maw, and by now we all hate Jade Maw. Give us some big daily boss variety.
3. Fractal specific rewards. I’m not talking about the random Fractal weapons you get from the daily chest. I mean items that only have a chance drop off one specific boss or mini boss or whatever. If there’s an item you want and you happen to get the fractal it drops in, that gives a sense of excitement. It’s something to hope for.
4. Fractal achievement challenges(with a reward). This ones easy. There’s already a system in place for giving you a little chest in the corner for when you complete an achievement, just make optional challenges in fractals that deserve a reward.
I know these are kind of vague, but please give this some thought ANet.
It’s still slower Kai. Had someone without the sickle gather at the same time as me, and it’s noticeably slower.
The animation for the consortium sickle is absurd. Just make it do 2 hits since that’s when you get the item you’re harvesting.
I could have just bought the gems with my gold stock, but I decided that I wanted to show my support for this game with actual money.
So seriously, don’t waste my time on something silly like this.
If I was going to be in something that lasts for 4+ hours she would know about it. Most of the content in this game does not take nearly that long though. But yeah, if I’m in the middle of a normal dungeon run that’s going to be no longer thakittenminutes I don’t drop what I’m doing because she decided she needed to go somewhere RIGHT NOW. If she needed to go somewhere that badly she should plan for it.
Played since launch. Zero. Not one rare black or white dye. Also spent 30g on unid dyes a while back because I figured it was time for me to gamble a bit. Still nothing. And now I learn that people that have only been playing for a few months have had several of these? RNG must hate me…
Played since the headstart. Never looted one. Only got them from dailies and map completion, and maybe one story mission reward.
I’m sure this has been posted before as I’ve met a number of people who have had this issue, but I didn’t see it on the first page and after last night I felt the need to bring this up. Basically, many times when i move towards an object and try to interact with it, my character refuses to interact and just keeps moving forward for a FEW SECONDS. That’s more than enough time to screw you up completely. It happened to me twice on Jade Maw last night while i was trying to pick up reflecting crystals and it also happened to a group mate on the cliffside fractal as he was trying to pick up the hammer. He was actually stuck in motion long enough to send him off the side. >.<
Please take a look at this anet. It’s very frustrating.
I got a few screenshots to show what I’m talking about.
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/201/gw021r.jpg/
That’s at the top of a mountain in timberline falls, that anet clearly did not intend for people to climb. Here’s one of the path I took.
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/543/gw022qf.jpg/
Now the reason I know anet didn’t intend for people to get up there and why I put this in the suggestion forum is in this
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/268/gw023b.jpg/
Most of that terrain in front of my character is not actually there. When I try to walk on it I fall straight through the ground, landing on the top of the ceiling of the caves underneath. Here’s another one.
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/191/gw006ja.jpg/
That’s my warrior dancing on top of a mountain in dredgehaunt cliffs. And the terrain just behind her is also not really there.
Now my suggestion is this: Don’t block off these ways to get up mountains. Fill in this terrain, and any terrain on mountaintops that are in the middle of the map, away from the zone borders.
While you might not have intended for players to get up to these spots, us hardcore explorers will find a way. I actually had to use savage leap to cross a gap getting up that mountain on my warrior, and that just made getting up there all the more satisfying. Us explorer gamers live for moments like this in games. To find spots like this that are completely unmarked actually makes us feel like we are truly exploring. And while the vistas were a great addition to the game, they feel more like a guided tour than exploration.
So in conclusion, don’t completely block us from the tops of all these mountains in the center of the zones. In fact, add ways to get up to more of them, even if that means making it so you have to use a move like savage leap to cross a gap(If you have the guts to jump across a fall that will surely kill like that you deserve a nice screenshot from a mountaintop). Fill in the terrain that’s already there, and maybe put some spawns up there so it seems a little less barren.
I love this idea. I think it fantastic. It won’t happen in Orr though, as much as we would like it to. I’m hoping something like this will be in the next expansion. Maybe in the next elder dragon’s domain.
In fact, I’m begging. Please do this Anet.
Furthermore, longer task list that come from the revamped dailies makes gameplay more daunting to those with a small window to play each day. ANet could be clever with the system and reduce the requirements for the following days if the player misses one of their dailies. For instance if I missed yesterday’s daily, today’s daily will be 20% easier to obtain, and if I miss that, tomorrow’s will be 40% easier.
I do like this idea. Makes it so players who haven’t been able to log on in a while get a nice easy daily reward with a bit less work. Increments of 20% might be a bit much though.
As far as the checklist thing goes, it would be nice to hide the crap in the upper right of the UI. I always keep it minimized myself, but being able to hide it completely would be a nice addition.
I would also be content with just an ever so slight increase in rare and exotic chances from chests. Nothing major of course, we cant just get rares at every turn, but I’ve done all 3 paths of some dungeons with not a single rare drop. That’s pretty harsh.
Just think about it. Engineers with parachutes, Mesmers with butterfly wings, guardians and necros with angelic/demonic wings. I think it would be a nice addition to the utility skills.
And I would like to be able to time a dodge roll right at the end of a fall to take reduced damage. That would also be nice.
With the exception of the buggy combo field daily, the visiting the laurel vendor, and maybe the crafting one depending on the player; each daily has been something that will get done naturally just by playing the game for 30-40 minutes. And the laurel and crafting one take about 5 seconds of your time while your stopping in at a city. Click the dude and make 10 bolts of jute or w/e. Couldn’t ask for an easier daily.
This reply is meaningless.
How about just increasing party size in the open world. Having only 5 party members can be a little restrictive if a number of guild members want to group up and work in a map together.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Squad
Meh….so you can group up like that, you just have to have someone who spent 100g on the commander thingy. I would be ok with a way to group say…20 people without having to have a commander.
edit Only in open world obviously. 5-man dungeons should stay 5-man dungeons.
(edited by CodeE.4857)
I’m a fan of making Guild Cities (where all players of one guild can build their house) and Guild Wars. More guild activities are a serious must in this game.
I like this idea.
The champion undead captain in southern cursed chore to. Ugh…me an ranger spent an eternity 2 manning him just to shut him up.
couple tips please for the uncoordinated servers?
Dont’ stand in the poo
HA!
You’re my hero.
God no…deer has barely 1/4 of a second of tell before it attacks(with any lag that’s pretty much impossible to react, you’d have to anticipate, that’s hard). Find a mob that has an easy tell. Bats, giffons, abominations, ettin, anything big really. I found that the moa screech was pretty easy to dodge.
And don’t worry jimbo. I doubt this will be the daily everyday.
Just because they listen doesn’t mean they implement. I’m guessing that dye’s are character specific because people buy the random dye pack in the gemstore so they can get more color options early. If you only have to get the dye once for all of your characters that’s less gems/money you put towards dye. They do have to make their money somehow.
Maybe once they get more items like the Quaggan backpack in the store pulling in cash they can make dyes bound to your account instead of your character?
Don’t know what to tell you about karma. Account wide karma sounds reasonable to me.
That’s the idea harvi. But that doesn’t make it unplayable, we’re just going to have to play smart. Res zerging is a pretty cheap strat and I never liked it, so I kinda like this change, but I can’t deny this will make some of the harder fights extremely difficult. There may need to be a little balancing change, but I guess we’ll see.
Your base stats are shown when you mouse over it. So really the only thing WRONG about it is the lack of the magic find stat. Magic find was also missing on it before. That’s another part that’s confusing me. Why change it if you aren’t going to add the only missing stat?
Ah well…They didn’t take any of the info away so it’s not a big deal to me. Just don’t know why they bothered.
You are awesome for thinking of all of this, and i think this should be canon. Thumbs up
I’m fine with the change, but I didn’t see anything wrong with the way it was before either. Kinda confused why this was a priority.
Because it is awesome, that’s why.
I mean, come on…
The Moletariat? Awesome.
^This.
Only problem with this is, if people can grow their own omnomberries, there’s going to be a huge supply of them, making them cheap on the TP. Now if someone wants omnoms they just buy them instead of going to orr to find them instead in case they want to save some money; thus reducing the population in that zone. I’m all for a farming mechanic, but not for rare things you can only get from 1-2 zones.
However, there are a number of cooking mats you can only get from karma vendors and the cooking vendor. Having a mechanic that will allow you to grow these yourself without having to find the right vendor would be nice.
I don’t like this. Here’s my idea. I think mounts should be purely cosmetic, summoned just like mini pets, give you a skill bar filled with neighing or w/e the mount does, and at most give a 5-10% speed increase, if any speed increase at all. Also they should be pretty expensive for what they do, and seeing as they don’t do much I’d say 5g is a good price. Expensive enough to where if you don’t care about mounts for the look you won’t bother getting one just cause it’s there and you can but cheap enough so if you really want it it’s obtainable without an absurd grind.
Are you kidding me? There’s text under the enemies’ health bar that tells you if it is capable of knockbacks. Just pay attention to your surroundings and plan accordingly. I’ve been knocked off by an enemy ONCE, and that was enough for me to learn to pay more attention to what I’m doing. I like a good challenge. I say put more enemies with knockbacks on cliff sides.
I do think we should be able to knock them off as well though. Simple solution for loot; if a mob dies from fall dmg make the loot spawn next to the player in a bag of loot. WvW already does this with playerkills, seems easy enough to implement.
