Astralaria III: Meta Event Items Bugged Out

I just did the Megadestroyer meta with the Quartz Vial in my inventory and did not get the Destroyer’s Heat after looting the chest. Haven’t tried the Ley-line Bezoar yet but now I’m a bit put off that these are bugged atm.

Hey guys :P and thanks for the help. I finally made Astralaria yesterday

Somehow the Destroyer’s Heat item is bugged so when we loot the Megadestroyer with the Quartz Vial in our inventory it doesn’t yield the required item for Astralaria Collection III Was this not an issue for you at any point?

Im in TTS and haven’t been able to participate in doing our daily triple decap (I do low settings now just in case) ever since the June 23rd patch. I disconnect every few minutes if the map population is high enough and have decided this morning I’ll be waiting to read the July 7th patch notes hoping for a “-fixed server crash”.

[Mac] Crashes are an important to fix

Corvus.5836

The game is running through a Cider wrapper which can’t deliver the performance that the game needs. There isn’t really a magic way for them to stop the crashes. The game has become more intensive on Windows, and as a result it crashes on the OSX client because the wrapper (and the fact that the app isn’t native) prevents the game from properly accessing the necessary computing resources.

Honestly that’s Anet’s problem. With the money they have they could make a Mac version like Blizzard is doing for all their game. I’m going to collect all my crashes in a folder and will email it to Anet support at the end of the month if they are willing to look at it. I expect about 250 error messages box.

I just started doing this same thing today! I already have two and I’ve only played for about 3 hours.

Liked the ready up, name still doesn't fit.

How rad would it have been for Anet to have the “Dragonhunter” reveal be last and have the final shot of the video be a zoom out showing the character’s back while he gets poised to fire at a rising mass of shaking jungle then cut to black, alluding to actually hunting an elder dragon and not a dinosaur.

Chronomancer Lore

in Lore

Posted by: Corvus.5836

Corvus.5836

Well druids already exist in Tyria so ArenaNet likely won’t invent something new but simply expand on what already exists. The druids of Tyria were conveniently located in parts of Maguuma we are moving towards, so I would expect there to be some lore to that in the expansion.

It was a unique challenge to find an interpretation of time magic that fit within the lore of Tyria while also providing engaging gameplay hooks.

This quote makes me think chronomancers alter the perception of time as opposed to time itself. Nothing they do is a big change from what they already do, just a specialisation/expansion of it.

Why does everyone hear “chronomancer” and take some “new magic” approach to it instead of considering the mesmer’s core abilities (manipulation, illusions, inspiration) and interpreting chronomancer as an extension of that? Moving faster or recharging skills faster aren’t really focuses of time control – they are easily explained as a mesmer tapping into mind magic to inspire their allies to perform better than they would without the mesmer. They already do this, just a less powerful level.

Actual time travel or time magic doesn’t really make a lot of sense for a mesmer, altering perceptions of time makes much more sense.

I don’t think mesmers will actually have any control over time, and as such their lore will just be an expansion of what mesmers already are – inspirational, manipulators, illusionists. Everything the chronomancer was shown to do seems like a specialised progression of what’s already inside the wheel house of the mesmer.

Well said!
I suppose it would make sense for Chronomancy to be an extension of illusionary, inspirational, and manipulative magic instead of actual time travel…

HOWEVER, the recent blog post states, “When the chronomancer activates Continuum Split, they sacrifice all of their illusions to split themselves off from the normal flow of time for a duration that scales with the number of illusions shattered. When this duration is over, or when the mesmer activates the follow-up skill Continuum Shift, they revert back to the location where the skill was first activated.”

So I’d like to think they actually have a limited control over time, but it only extends to going backward or forward/skipping about timelines for a few seconds.

I doubt ArenaNet would skip over integrating specializations into the lore of their game so how do you think Chronomancers, Tempests, Druids etc. will fit in?

Will we meet some confused and displaced Chronomancers not sure if it was just
breakfast they ate or yesterdays lunch a second time?
Or maybe a Druid in the Maguuma Jungle searching for a better understanding of the Pale Trees?
Or a Tempest… making small talk about the weather? ;>_>

I’d also like to inject into the conversation the question of when Mac will exit beta.

There is one thing still very confusing to me about this blog post.

It sounds like the Revenant may get less customization than other classes. As per usual your first five skills are determined by your weapon, but unlike other classes they said your second five skills are determined by your legend. Are they determined only by your legend? As in, you pick a legend and get the five skills that come with it? Or will there be a selectable loadout of skills within each legend? And if so how many per legend?

I didn’t read all the posts above but if you look at the attached image, above each utility skill you can see the tab arrow. I assume this means there will be a number of skills for each Legendary Hero, allowing you to customize a bit rather than only offering five per.

Mac client crash

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Corvus.5836

Corvus.5836

I’m running on a Macbook Pro Retina from mid 2012 using the latest OS (currently Yosemite 10.10.2)
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB

Without fail the game will crash if using too high of graphical settings during large world events such at megabosses or in high population areas such as LA. To combat this I’ve tweaked my settings and done ample amounts of trial and error to find a suitable balance over the past two years.
However recently no matter what I do, even if I put the game in windowed at lowest settings, the game will crash if I stay in the same Silverwastes map to complete a second Vinewrath. The client closes out to the desktop in a large white box with a smaller white box inside of it. No text but the sizes of the windows suggest it’s an error message over the glitched client. This has happened every time I’ve attempted it this past week.

I have submitted some tickets but to no avail. I’m interested in hearing from other Mac users about their experiences.

For the first time in over two years of playing this game and enjoying the lore, I’m starting to think there is something else out there mucking about with the fates of the Gods and Elder Dragons. I’m not simply talking about any of the ancient races either. Something in the Mists that’s so far down the road the in-house Loremasters only have a vague idea of they want it to be.

Before then, I hope we get some shocking twists and turns dealing with the Gods and EDs. But color me excited for the long haul.

Personally I was more interested in the new enemies that were dancing around in the background, they looked phenomenal and the same can be said about the new environment.
However, this is the only reason I watch PoI anymore. Comparing what I watched and heard on the stream to what I read in Dulfy’s summary of a few bullet points . . . I realized I’d rather not be dragged through a trough of fan art only to hear info we got three weeks ago and just quickly read about it somewhere else.

I love GW2 to death but I’ve always wished they’d kick the community engagement into overdrive. I feel more connected, welcomed and excited to see new posts in my Blizzard client for Hearthstone and Diablo (which I play maybe 3 hours a month of each) than I do for anything related to PoI or GW2.

Zhaitan was in a dungeon story mode but as we’ve heard around in the recent past, the Anet dungeon team is no more. And I’m of the mind that having it be a map wide event just wouldn’t make sense. Does this mean personal instance format like we’ve seen in Living Story episodes?

Same exact thing happens to me. If FPS gets too low the client just crashes, it’s always been like this.

And how would you suggest they test a bug that rather clearly happened due to a massive amount of people clicking the same thing at once?

Some things are simply more or less impossible to find during testing, this is a good example of one of those things.

OR it can just be in an instance like the majority of episode two. Then everything runs smoothly.

**SPOILERS** Leaders of Tyria

in Living World

Posted by: Corvus.5836

Corvus.5836

SPOILERS
In the beginning of Entanglement when we go check up on Taimi in Scarlet’s research room we have dialogue options with Marjory (or Kas, I can’t remember) about how the leaders of Tyria are being targeted, or at least one of them, from the things Aerin said as he was fighting us. She mentions how she could’t bear it if the target were the Queen, and how it could be anyone… including Trahearne.

Opinion: At first I was kitten mad he was even mentioned cuz I’m on the boat that thinks he stole our glory. (Which now is of no consequence cuz it was rad how often we were called “Boss” in episode 2) But then I got excited because I realized he could be the one to get assassinated >:D Leaving us the General of the Pact. This would allow us to be in a position in which we don’t need to rely on Kasmeer’s connections if we want to hold a hearing with the Pale Tree or any other major leaders. We’d be on nearly the same level of political importance.

Total appreciation geek-out incoming.

This update adds to the well written and presented story that season 2 debuted with. Every conversation between Destiny’s Edge 2.0 was fantastic and revealed something important. There were even times I laughed out loud (Taimi, you little comedian!).
Every twist and turn had me excited and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest.

Season One had me skeptical about where GW2’s narrative was headed and I wasn’t a fan of Scarlet very much. I thought her motives had potential to be awesome but weren’t presented well often enough. Intrigue was sparked when we found some of her labs and little hideaways with "Inspect"able items lying around. But for me the hype was solidified with S1’s closing cutscene. Since then season 2 has taught me to downright love Scarlet and her craziness. This goes for Destiny’s Edge 2.0 as well, I’m attached to them now <3

Great job Anet.

P.S. Holy kitten that cutscene was astounding!

Scarlet ultimate goals: not what you think

in Living World

Posted by: Corvus.5836

Corvus.5836

A curious topic I keep thinking of is why she drew that figurative map of the world hanging in her room in Prosperity. It looked strikingly similar to the Realm of Torment only with the Pale Tree at the center. (previous threads have mentioned this as well)

In Guild Wars Abaddon was the God who granted magic to all the races of Tyria but was imprisoned in the Realm of Torment by the other five to prevent him from spreading his nefarious influence. After his imprisonment he tried numerous times to return to the mortal realm by creating the Titans, who were seen as Gods to the charr. The titans granted the charr the power and knowledge to perform the infamous searing of Ascalon. One of Abaddon’s demons was responsible for persuading Vizier Khilbron to read the Lost Scrolls which sank Orr in the also infamous cataclysm. There are also the events of the Nightfall campaign that would take a long time to explain, but it was a plot for him to return to the mortal world.

Back during Living Story season 1 in “Cutthroat Politics” we were given the choice as a player base to decide if we wanted Evon Gnashblade and his Fall of Abaddon fractal or Ellen Kiel and her Thaumanova fractal. I can’t help but think Anet wanted us to be knowledgable of Abaddon’s story at some point. My question to you all is this: Was the voice in Scarlet’s head that of Abaddon scheming to return once more?
Perhaps harnessing the ley lines is part of this. Maybe her glimpse of the Realm of Torment is what drove her insane.

I like to think that when she said, “An insurmountable challenge is rising, and my people have been called to meet it. We are compelled by our creator to do so. But I reject that call. I reject the notion that that I must choose the Dream or be lost to Nightmare. The forces that push us this way or that can be redirected. They can be set against one another to the detriment of both, and now I know how." is her hinting at her plan to not simply awaken Mordremoth (the dragons being one of the forces that push us one way) but to set him against the remaining power of Abaddon (the gods being another force that shaped much of Tyria).

This may be a pipe dream, but the implications of Scarlet directing an Elder Dragon’s destructive force against a God and a realm from the first game is huge. It could effectively force the return of the Six in some capacity. Admittedly a big flaw in my hopes for this kind of story is that Abaddon’s power was transferred to Kormir when she ascended into Godhood. But one can imagine ways for him to scheme regardless :p

Corvus.5836

The Eagles wings are all glass and the gears up top that make it seem like they could come down to allow the structure to fly are simply a piece of the artwork. Concept artists will draw out the shape they want (the eagle, city and pavilion below) then add textures ripped from other photos to the different parts so each has a certain feel to it. In the case of the eagle the artist just ended up having gears, glass, and other industrial textures in there to give it a specific feel.
It’s nothing more than some cool concept art. Scroll through the concept art section here on the site and you’ll see lots of familiar textures mostly in buildings they’ve done and some charr machinery for example.
