Now I bet Anet is working on stuff at least since GW2’s release, probably even before!

Sorry guys, but any customer-centered business must care about what causes customers to quit buying (or playing) their product.

+1

When I was working for another MMO running studio, that company was ignorant for insights light these.
They basically didnt care about what anyone said if he wasnt a high paid suit, where most of them hadnt even a clue about the product itself, but had some fancy job titles and nice boards in theirs offices with some monetization statistics on it.

Trying to explain or convince them to listen to what their customers had to say even it wasnt a lawsuit was, despite all the internal and external smoke screen PR (where most of the revenue vanished in to anyway), like talking to a brick wall.
It was really weird because to me it seemed most of them just didnt want to understand whats going on, because they would have to step ‘out of line’.
They preferred to stay in their office ‘doing their job’, watching the ship sink and grabbing on what they can get.
I dont know, but thats the impression I got. And I saw the numbers, every working day.

Well, the best description about what happened next would be….a crash landing with many casualties beginning of course on the “lower end”….poor buggers.

If a company reaches a certain size, loosing touch with the basics is its biggest treat.

Anet seems to have reached that tipping point somewhere in between GW and GW2 with an integrated accelerator it seems.

To be fair, I probably should swap Anet with NCsoft.

Well, for a game that was advertised to have no grind (misinterpretation, yeah sure), following the footsteps of GW adding a “2”, you cant deny that this game turned out to have some measure of grind for gear, especially compared to its predecessor.

But compared to other MMOs out there….oh my, I guess you never had a Master Weaponsmith or Creature Hunter in SWG, did you?

On the other hand, I dont actually count GW2 as an MMO, more something like multiplayer fantasy-action combat with cashshop fluff and some nods to MMO mechanics.

So that takes me back comparing GW2 with GW1, which seems to me the only valid comparison.

Wheres New Content?? (State of the Game) [merged]

- It’s all about : What majority wants..

And this is what I cannot fully fathom – how can so many players enjoy games that sell them ‘content’ that is not only cheap (read: superficial&recycled) and relies on terrible game mechanics (zerging, mass events), but often enough require additional rl payments for something that is only temporary – what does that tell about those players?

Please, don’t give me the ‘casual’ argument. Being a casual player doesn’t and shouldn’t translate to ‘we welcome any rotten tomatos and potatoes thrown at us with open arms’. How can people be SO lacking in the sound judgement department – so easily tricked – that they will reluctantly stick to what devolved into little more than a P2P in sheep’s clothing is seriously beyond me.
Why do people dish out money for mediocre content in a mediocre game, which is ridden with spam, superficial story, temporary features, lag, recycled content, and has a minigame called pvp, and a mish&mash of pve&pvp that is wvw?

I remain absolutely b.a.f.f.l.e.d. and eagerly await the many fanboys in this thread to perhaps try shedding some light on their thought process on this phenomenom (yea, not happening). I think it’d make most interesting a subject to study.

Its called Behavioral Conditioning

Its not a conspiracy, its the result after decades of ‘western’ mass media, commercial and government education.

Basically they are fullfilling their designated role as consumers, while being very limited in their critical thinking abilities and take over and retell agruments from that company, suggesting its them critically thinking but in fact they are just repeating what that company and media branded into their minds.

Just look at the “hype” phaenomena. There, BC is renamed to PR, but the goal remains the same and the results speak for themselves.

Superficial and willing to spend money, thats how most companies want and like their cough ….. “customers”.

Of course, Anet is the exception here ….

If a company has to completely neglect its existing customers because its reaching for a new market with new customers, I doubt that company is capable to handle that at all.

Oh and that “you will see, its sooooooooo excitiiiiiing…someday, somewhere, something, something!!!” PR line is getting really old.
It may have worked after release, not 2 years after with that proven record of ‘exiting content’.

Will You Be Playing GW2 Less Post Patch ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dafomen.7892

Last time I logged into GW2 was on patch day (night) to check out the new features.

Fiddeling around with those skins and so on, I then realized that I expected updates likes these the whole time since release and got that weird feeling being still a beta-player as Anet adds/delets/changes features as the wind blows.

Adding to this, I am really getting sick of that “Oh, you didnt use that item? Well shame on you, it was announced [somewhere except the news and announcement forum], now deal with it.” -attitude.

In the end that patch just added stuff that everyone with some kind of basic game design knowledge would have pointed out since day 1.

I mean…a wardrobe system in an MMO of 2014? uh, what innovation!!!!!!!!

Uuuh….account wide WXP 8respectively karma)? man, that so genious I understand why it took years to get to this conclusion .

Yeah, new traits and aquiring system. Thats soooo exciting and refresing because those were features that didnt seem at all unfinised.

And better now than never, after that “year of polishing and bugfixing the core game”, as that PR machine said.

The only good trend I hope I recognize is that Anet seems to aknowledge that not everything we loved from GW1 must be excluded from GW2.

So those PvP-reward chests got simply deleted?

Had around a dozen where now is a blank banc space and I guess I missed all those skin-unlocks as I wasnt aware of any official announcement about that apart from the fact that rewards of any kind shouldnt be just deleted in the first place.

A GW2 patch becomes a gamble of "uh oh….what to do, what to dooo before the patch hits so I wont loose my rewards "

Well, I’m confused.

I had a good dozen of those pvp reward chests and now there is a empty slot in my bank.
How many skins could you get with one chest again? 3, 6? So I lost about 32 skins or more?

If there was an announcement regarding those chests, I must be blind because I cant find it in the “News and announcements” section and the patch notes dont mention them either afaik.

So the solution for Anet is simply deleting those reward chests?

Fixed it to you. I write a lot of words because I try to explain things many people in this thread seem naive to. If you think discussing on a higher level of knowledge makes things less credible then why even bother (living)?

That expression wasnt meant to be directed to you specifically….but here you are, so please don’t stop, tell me more about why you must enlighten us.
And I am very sorry that I have disturbed your _ on a higher level of knowledge_ discussion and hurt your feelings.
If you feel the need to turn this into personal discussion which you hinted at with your delightful brackets, please consider using the PM system.
BTW, if you quote someone, you don’t change the quote…because then its not a quote anymore, is it?

so when someone has many reasons that he is right that means his argument is weak? and the person with only one reason has the best argument?

not saying that applies to whatever you guys are talking about, just saying in general that makes no sense like whatsoever.

I have another one for you: “the one who feels the need to justify, has reason to do so”

If you dont have the experience to understand all this, please dont look at me for teaching lessons.
So I suggest using the internet or real live for further research.

Back to topic, the reason why this game is called Guild Wars 2 (even tho there is no GvG system in it)….well, for those who didn’t get it by now (because maybe they live in a non-capitalistic enclave), ill make it short:

GW2 is a gem-shop software with some neat 3D landscapes around to give some kind of meaning to the virtual commodities sold and where a monetization manager has the last word in “game” design to get those last bucks out of our pockets and the rest of the team stares at metrics trying to understand what GW2 is.

Thats the only clear direction I can see here…

Just that none is forced to buy anything and the items aren’t necessary for any kind of progression. QQ’ing about the gemshop is even worse than saying GW2 is dead and Anet paid money to the media to rate it good.

Brings me back to WoW days when people said it was a sinking ship with nothing valueable in it.

Why I'm not buying stuff from the gem store

Dafomen.7892

Wait, I’m confused a bit here. What do you mean they haven’t introduced any new armor sets to get in-game wise for a year? o.o;

Mmmmk, lets take a look at this.. I’m going to list anything cosmetically wearable. I know they aren’t all Gear Sets, but IMO thats irrelevant since the most fun part about GW2 is mixing and matching sets for a unique look.

Feb ’13 – March ’14

February – New Exotics Added for Karma at the Vendors in Orr (not entirely cosmetic, but I count it because those armors all have distinct looks from everything else in game)

March & April (the patch fell near the start of april) – Jetpack Backpack and Fused Gauntlets

May – Scerelite Backpack, White Flower Backpack

June – Dragon Bash Helms And the Two Back Items

July – Zepheryite Helm, Wind Catcher Backpeices (you could buy or obtain them in game). This was also the time the account-wide Achievement system was updated and the Radiant, and Hellfire Armor Pieces were added (I believe there is a full set to be obtained). Red Flow Backpiece. Zypher Ruckpack Back was a rare reward for one of the activities

Aug – Champion Updates Happened here that put multiple different unique items from champs around the world. Twisted Watchwork Shoulder Skins

Sept – Ascended Weapons, Teq Revamped and Unique Sunless weapons added to his drop table, Sunless Dragon Wings.

Oct – Slickpack Backpack, Twilight Assault Weapon Skins (in the new TA Path), Blood and Madness Halloween Skin.

Nov – Antedote Injector Back Piece, Gasmask Skin, Air-Filtration Device Skin, Toxic Spore Back Skin.

Dec – Ascended Armor Added, Dwayna and Grenth back items.

Jan ’14 – Wurm-Themed Armor skins.

Feb – Spinal Blades Skins, Old LS Skins Released in Rare Rewards.

This is quite a substantial list. Many backpieces, some gauntlets, helmets and shoulderpieces here and there, many additional weapon skins…they may become quite an eye-catcher a few years in. Thats all great.
Whats a bit lacking are complete armor sets. Those karma sets where introduced [over a year ago] to give karma some of the promised value (karma was supposed to be the all round currency iirc).
From then on it seems to me that complete armor sets are exclusive to the gem shop.
I wouldn’t seriously count those “one in a million drop” ascended skins which you can’t really aquire except your RNG god likes you.
But I guess those and the achievement skins come closest to what we will get in GW2 what gives an item some kind of that “in-game-value”.

Tormented weapons would be a good example of this devalue as there is no in-game effort attached to them compared to GW1.
A level 1 can simply buy them…how exciting.

Personally I think the gem shop is generally overpriced for virtual items, be it with real money or gold>gem and thats my reason why I barely buy something from the gem shop apart from bag/bank/collection expansions, character slots and…that’s it.

Another reason why I don’t buy those gem-skins is because Anet tends to change/reskin skins post-release and then add the general ongoing stat/trait and equipment changes and the result is that in GW2 I didn’t “finalize” any of my characters regarding their look and most likely will only do, when I don’t have the feeling anymore that GW2 is still in beta.
So probably in 2-3 years…

Welcome!

My advice would be, that after you’ve decided for a server, to not let influence your decisions and experience by further advices (make this profession, do that to level fast, don’t go there and so on) but to create a character you enjoy playing, get used to the game on your own pace and explore the world.

A technical advice I might add:
if you don’t feel the server you’ve picked is what you expected it to be, you can either:

>>guest on another server (you can guest on two servers with a 24h cooldown without any cost BUT guesting doen’t work for WvW!)

>>transfer to another server which costs a fee (gems)

>>delete all your characters and then pick another server for free.

that’s it from me

Moderation…in general. Yes, chat is monitored by the community. But without action “behind the scenes” any reports are meaningless. Star Trek Online (OP) has a report function. I just don’t think anyone on the other side is listening.

Cheers for taking the time explaining this for my oakhead

Well, I never played Star trek Online…mmh…

The only thing I can say about this, is that my ignore list got more entries in GW2 than I had in any other MMO I played combined (except GW1).

It was similar in GW1 and interestingly those are the only “F2P” games (okok B2P to be exact here) I played…all others where subscription based and there I barely felt having to use the ignore function.

Having said this, most people I meet in GW2 are friendly, helpful and ready for fun!

Majority of my ignores are from the first months after release, a good portion of them from WvW folks.

New ignores are actually rare, so this could be an indication of the good work from customer service/moderators working on reports in general.

Also, maybe most of those unfriendly players where unhappy with the game in the frist place and projected that to others ingame (human nature) and now they don’t play anymore….its probably a mixture of both.

Anyways…I sort of agree I guess

Tasty Pudding, I completely agree with you as I was thinking the same thing when they introduced these daylies.

Contrary to all those unimaginative nay sayers, I say there are many ways to get this to work taking non-80s into account and accessibility in general.

For example you could alternatively include some kind of “mini-daylies” into the personal story and when you hit a certain level, you get another one of those mails telling you that now you are ready for bigger tasks in the big world or something like that.

Or how about a subcategory of daylies with those specific tasks and some extra reward apart from say 2 instead of 1 AP.

Took me 10 seconds to come up with this and I am sure, if Anet wanted too, they could.

The benefit to revive those forgotten zones, dungeon paths, DEs and champs would be worth the effort.

It worked in GW1, why can’t it in GW2?

Certainly much more satisfying then fighting Zaithan….but you can’t make something worse, what was already hitting rock bottom.

What really sours the experience for me is the “it doesn’t matter” answer from braham, when Scarlet is about to spill the beans.

That was just a facepalm and so storywise it doesnt make much sense, why we did what we did and why Scarelt did what she did, why she wanted to tell us, why she didn’t tell us the whole time and why we didn’t ask or listen to her.

To construct a deathstar to dig a hole to wake up a dragon which where supposed to be awaken by big daddy anyway and now there are not, but Scralet had a dream or was controlled by…a dragon? Awww….who cares.

Anet botherd more to show us the lesbians hug and kiss than to tell the main story.
Probably it was all about those two cuddlefishs the whole time….

I completely gave up on hoping to find some kind of interesting plot in GW2.

I have to say, for a climax, this LS part does what most previous LS parts did….heres a boss, go kill him, heres your (useless) ultimate-extreme-supermega bagpack with…crap in it.

Why wouldn’t you play for a chance at the Monocle, the Molten Jetpack, the Air Filtration Mask, or the other good loot?!? THAT’s why people get so frustrated.

“for a chance”, thats the point, at least for me. I’ve opened countless of those, be it from tequila, wurm, LS chest, world chests and whatnot and got final rest once from behe and maybe some exotics here and there….whats a precursor anyway?

Now in LA I did save citizens the first couple of days because I actually enjoy succeeding in an event…and then every time I opened the ultimate bag I got more and more frustrated and felt I just again wasted my time for chasing some orange bar counting up for some theoretical carrot….or to do what? save 1200 citizens who then disappear from the map to never been seen again (those refugee camps must be all undergound I guess).
The next (last?) LS story chapter will arrive anyway and it seems (yeah, hope) it wont chance a thing if a server did save 1 or 1 million citizens.
So, if Tyria doesn’t care about those citizens, why should I?

And I am not complaining about my “bad RNG” luck, I accepted that and now I adapted to it and started to farm in LA….and boy….apart from those ~250 bags I got from every evac-tour (did it around 15 times in the past two weeks) I got 8 endless tonics, one mysterious, ~20 airship passes, many boosters, bazillion children drawings and from the belongings all those nice obsi shards, tomes, zhaitaffy …..apart from those numerous rares and around 5 exotics looting en passant.
Thats just so much better…and I like quaggans!

But I find pure farming quite dull on the long run, so what I do now is a mixture.
Primarily farming, yes, but not ignoring civzs on the way and rez ppl who are I trouble beside the events end if its a close one, I go out and do my best to contribute and get it finished, not for the ulti-bag, its because my team-spirit is kicking in.

But this “for a chance” has become unexistant for me.

Why I've changed my mind on Ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dafomen.7892

Dafomen.7892

The whole Ascended gear is just so poorly conceived from front to end. It makes no sense. Nothing in the game is better or more rewarding because of Ascended gear. It just pigenholes you character into a single build and play-style while asking you to grind ridiculous amounts of material only so a certain abundant material can have some economical value.

It’s like how “luck” was supposed to make greens and blues more appreciated and curb inflation. Yet all it does is create more and once people have 300 Magic Find, then what?

Just like with all the new currencies ANet introduced, none of them have a long-term plan. Everything is add-hoc and never thought through to the end.

ANet has brilliant artists and animators,
They have competent programmers,
They have a fairly management,
but in terms of game-design, they don’t seem to have a clue what they’re doing.

+ 1

This pretty much nails it.

From a game design POV GW2 really doesnt shine. In GW1 it was similar tho on a much smaller scale and it took them a few years to round up those mechanics.

CDI- Process Evolution 2

Posted by: Dafomen.7892

Dafomen.7892

1. World length limitation can help to keep posts focused and sort out those anecdotes and polemics (even if they’r funny to read sometimes).
But if there is no total posting limit in a CDI thread, one will simply post again I assume.

2. There should be a topics compilation of all main GW2 features which should each have a subdivision listing more specific aspects of a feature.
e.g.:
x/y progression
- armor
>crafting
>stats
>upgrades
- rewards
>DE rewards
>dungeon rewards
>fractal rewards
- skills
>aquisition
>balancing
>build access/changing
>elite skills
gameplay
>dungeons
>living story
>personal story
black lion tading post
>filter
>gems
>sellables/soulbound/account bound

Well something like this, this just a quick suggestion
This compilation should come from Anet for obvious reasons I’d say.
Each forum user has two votes, one “main vote” and a “secondary/specific vote” and can choose a main topic and optionally also a specific topic (which can be under a different topic as the main vote).
This could help indicating hot spots if present and general tendencies.

Further, CDI should get its own section where all discussions go in and with a sticky where one post gives a summary for a concluded discussion with a link to the discussion thread.
This would greatly improve accessibility and reinforce the impression that this CDI is an effective rather than a smoke screen attempt, which “a discussion on how we would like to discuss” could be perceived of.

Sorry if I seem a bit daft, but, I still don’t get what you’re referring to. There is so much more to GW1 than the instanced parts. I STILL PLAY GW1 albeit not nearly as often as I once did.

The thing being discussed is that it worked in GW1 and thus it should work here as well.
What I am trying to say is that the system is not built in the same way, and thus it won’t work the same way.
When you disconnected from your instance in GW1 you could reconnect to it (within a certain time) simply because it was an instance created specifically for you.

In GW2 the instance is created for every player that currently uses the map, and thus they can’t lock it because of you disconnecting, and thus you can’t just reconnect to the same place in the same way as in GW1.

GW1 and GW2 share a very similar instancing system (if not the same).
Both create instances for players but with a different capacity. In both games every players who is in an instance is registered thus reserving a slot for disconnects is more a question of how much bandwith and money it will cost to implement it for GW2 as it would require to flag and track potentially more players as it was needed for GW1.

Its not a technical but a cost limitaion. No surprise here.

Yeaaah…no……..I’m sorry but I have a handicap where when I open a thread my brain automatically ignores all posts except one.
But don’t worry, your elaborate clarification opened my mind and I can now see that GW2 consists at least of >1.1% “stuff to do with guilds”.

"Guild Wars" a misleading title

Story mode dungeon is more or less about Destiny’s Edge, which is very much a guild.

Ahh okeyyyy, that’s why this game is called “Guild Wars”, I get it…now it all makes soo much sense!

Good one btw…

Yes, the title is misleading.

And for those wo take the “lore” as an excuse for the naming.

The “lore” was introduced to give some background story to the game mechanic of (and now it comes) guild battles in GW1.

So
Guild Wars 1 = guild battles = some appropriate lore
Guild Wars 2 = no guild battles = who cares about the “lore” here anyway = misleading

Well, another solution would be to simply limit the total amount of (summoned) pets rendered by the client.
Or hey, why not use the already existing system with that slider for players/armor rendering, modify it and voilá, the gamer can adjust that by himself.

Because not everyone has those ‘performance issues’….

But I guess that would make too much sense, would it?

Better just slap a timer on it….easy…and cheap…and thats how we like it, don’t we? :-)

How do you feel about GW2 right now?

I can do fractals for challenge, or some of the harder dungeon paths. I can farm in certain areas, do events, explore…all the stuff I used to do in Guild Wars 1.

Here’s a tiny list online games where you can do this too:
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm
;-)

These preferences don’t appreciate the basic game mechanics which distinguishes GW1 from GW2 and about every other MMO I’d claim.
Adding the lack of passion for the PvP aspect of both games (which was probably the strongest feature of GW1) could explain, why one will probably never be able to really understand those, who feel that GW2 is not a true successor of GW1.

Well, everyone can have its own level of expectation, that’s fine…but trying to explain colors to a blind person who pretends to see is somewhat sense-less.

GW2 feels like a money-grab and rat-maze, which couldn’t go any further from why Trifor…eeerm Anet was founded by those “ex-blizzardies” who didn’t want to create a game based on rat-maze mechanics and therefore developed GW1.

I feel that GW2 is a game which was never released and instead we got some kind of a placebo MMO.

Thats the best I can do to describe what I feel about this game.

I’ll remember Anet as a company which provided me with 7 years of a unique gaming experience and then used that profound faith to rip me off some money for their new MMO-cash grab.

GW2 is everything but nothing….

Patch D\L for new players is a joke.

This is not unusual, as the version printed on the disk is commonly the release version of a game and most games nowadays get patched after release.
This is especially the case for every MMO out there I’d claim.

Sometimes, e.g. when a game gets the “G.O.T.Y” status, an up-to-date version is printed, mostly for SP games or if its an MMO an “all-expansions” included version will include all past patches.

GW2 has no expansions and as far as I know there is no updated version available on disk.
Sure, it would be nice if Anet/NCsoft would release a new revision including all those yearly events with all the new textures, music/sounds etc.

But as you already bought the game, well, you can imagine the rest of the sentence I guess

I recently completely de- and re-installed GW2 to see if the client size on disk and the loading times would be reduced and it took a good day which is ok when you can wait and just let it download while you are living your day
(f.t.r.: loading times seem to be the same, client size reduced a bit, but not so much that I bothered to remember^^).

BTW I also did that with my LotRo and SWTOR installations and it took much longer.
But the the fastest was GW1…no suprise here looking at the client size.

Apart from that I agree that the GW games patching systems are the most efficient and hassle free ones I know of.

Nerf zerker? Really?

I’m glad Anet will have a look at the …wait, what was it? The “dominance of DPS Players”….
Well, thats an elegant expression to avoid admitting that 1st of all its not the players who dominate but that in GW2 the combat is sooo deeep and complex that everything but Berserker gear is simply in-e-ffec-tive and thats because GW2 is designed that way.
All the other stat combos are there but compliment no significant game mechanics and are simply use-less.

I’m glad Anets decides after the “year to focus on polishing and fixing the game 2013”
to have a look to this basic feature (I know it was veeery difficult to spot that there might be some inbalance).

I’m glad Anet looks into “Zerker” after they’ve released the Ascended armor grind.

I’m very glad that Anet obviously knows where this game’s going.

Its always funny too observe when someone knows he’s argumentatively moving on thin ice and turns to the chaep rhetorical mechanic to make a counter statement by pretending to be on the grade of a sesame target group viewer and making very stu…erm simple questions in hope the ‘opponent’ will provide him with something he can then counter by asking another simplistic question.

Sooooo…why is this game called Guild Wars 2 again? ;-)

[Merged]1year post launch. How Anet feel on Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dafomen.7892

Dafomen.7892

I prefer the “no-trinity” apprach in GW2.

-no more “GLF healer/tank”

-no more blaming others when they missed the taunt/heal etc

The gameplay is much smoother and relaxed.

On the other side I feel the combat [in GW2] is now somewhat flat and now its basically all DPS in PvE (=90% content) with just a few exceptions where a PVT build has its moments (like molten bosses or tower of nightmare).

But as I said, I prefer it without trinity, but there is much room for improvement

Two months from now will be about a year and a half from release. A year and a half after GW1 release, we already had Factions and Nightfall. That’s two new continents, four new classes, two new skillsets for all classes, new PvP modes, two entirely new stories, multiple elite dungeons, and bunches of other things. At near the same point in GW2 we’ve got…Southsun? Fractals? Temporary content?

+1

I don’t expect anything because what Anet delivered until now is very thin and if in doubt its Scarlet hihihuhuhoho diediedie kiddy fluffy rainbow unicorn my little pony gemstore progression spamfest wannabe “mmo” whatever and bye.

Good thing there’s the holiday sale on steam right now and I already got a good bunch of games….money Anet will never see.

First and foremost its Anets decision to not act about the queensdale train and the potentially bad impact it has for new players there.

And about those toxic dungeon people, well….you’ll find them in every multiplayer game I’m afraid.

Personally I don’t take part in any of these trains and their mentality to “own” the champs and actually I prefer being in a group with some newbies in it than with those wannabe elite folks.
