Tips & Tricks for Staff Ele?

For spells that call down attacks, meteor/icebow, if you have quickness while you cast them the attacks will come faster but for the same duration resulting in more attacks. Unfortunately ele has no access to quickness normally but if you can somehow get some you can basically get free meteors. You also don’t need to keep quickness up during the attack, quickness just needs to be on when you start the cast.

Bomb pulses do indeed proc steel packed powder. As for net shot the skill itself doesn’t have a cast time but the net itself is super slow and the skill does have an aftercast.

If you need low cd blast finishers throw mine, rocket boots, and later flamethrower kit are your best options. In fact the change to flamethrower kit will give a blast finisher on a potentially lower cd than your fire field bomb.

Otherwise if its self might you are looking for the trait enhanced performance will give 3 might when you place your healing turret, sigil of battle will give might swapping to kits in battle, and certain runes give might or other boons in an area on heal as well.

In general detonating the turret is worse because it results in an overall lower hps than just picking it up and also makes the condition cleanse less frequent. However, detonating the turret is still very useful if you a) Need to heal an ally, b) Are low enough that picking up the turret might not give enough hp to survive to the next cooldown, or c) Are using the blast finisher in a different field.

Warrior ready up is looking at a potential buff to rampage

Rampage – We want this elite to make you feel more like a juggernaut when you enter this transform. Reduced the amount of incoming physical damage by 25% meaning that all strikes you take will be reduced. All incoming chilled/crippled/immobilize conditions will be reduced by another 33%. If you have dogged march and this ability you gonna be suffering from almost no movement impairing abilities

Increased the velocity of Throw Boulder so it is easier for you to stun ranged moving enemies.

Add this onto the buff to tornado form being a lightning field and whirl finisher at the same time do you think elixir X will see more use?

While it does allow s/d to chain evades I still thinks its an overall nerf because FS can no longer clear blinds for a LS, LS can’t be pre loaded before a burst, and the boon strip of LS because less reliable simply because you need two abilities to hit.

Also, does the strike on choking mean that it break stealth, if so thats a bigger nerf than some might realize. As for s/d i don’t think it changes much, while damage wise it means less LS it lets a thief spam the evade if needed. Venoms and p/p will still be super niche despite the minor buffs.

I find A.E.D. is better in builds that bring secondary methods of healing. This allows you to better control your hp and thus time the A.E.D. Ideally you will use A.E.D. to save your self, get down to 25% recharging it because it wasn’t used last time your fell down to 25%, save yourself again, then optionally use elixir R to save yourself a third time for maximum trolling. This also makes your secondary healing that much more impactful because of how much it delays killing you again and again.

The heal isn’t as bad as people say. The problem is that on its own it lacks a proper secondary effect that makes heals like withdraw or hide in shadows popular. The closest heal would be signet of malice but signet of malice is always active and doesn’t need to be cast. Without traits skelk venom might as well be an inferior signet of malice with a larger on-cast heal.

Now with traits the heal gains a purpose and thus becomes viable. Venom sharing builds are the thieves’ version of the hard support role. Sharing a skelk venom traited with leeching venoms and residual venoms is like the entire party using their self heal. The only heal that can be similarly traited is hide in shadows and that only helps you through effects while in stealth.

The argument against this is that venom share as a whole is horrible but I disagree. One perk to venom sharing is that venom gained and applied by teammates work as if you gained/applied them. This means an ally gaining venom also gains might if you trait it, an ally using a venom will use your condition damage instead of his allowing power based allies to still do a lot of damage, and conditions applied by the venom itself can trigger your traits (sharing spider venom will trigger your on-poison traits when an ally uses the venom). In a small party a thief can use their superior mobility to easily share venoms despite the small radius of the share and can front-load your parties burst with their venom conditions.

So despite skelk venom needing a hefty amount of trait investment, the heal is far from useless.

To clarify for everyone.

Healing turret base heal is 2,520 with a coefficient of .5.
Cleansing burst (which you will use every time) is also base 2,520, .5 scaling, and cures TWO conditions.
If you decide to combo field it the aoe heal is 1,320 and coefficient .2

So at base undetonated healing turret will heal (2,520 + 2,520)/15 = 336 hp/s at max and .133 conditions/s.
Detonating the turret will give (2,520 + 2,520 + 1,320)/20 = 318 hp/s
This does not take into account the 8s of regen you also get.

Compared to A.E.D. which according to Cero has a base of 9,720 (when used optimally) and a coefficient of 1 the A.E.D. will have 9,720/32 = 303 hp/s

In the end because A.E.D. and healing turret both have the same coefficient no matter what you do healing turret will give you more health during a fight especially with the regen and condition clear it gives. The only situations where A.E.D. would be superior would be if during a fight you only get to heal once or you use A.E.D. to block a lot of overkill damage such as surviving a 5k burst while only having 1k hp.

Key Traits/Abilities for Perma Stealth?

You litterally need just 15 points in shadow arts to get perma-stealth. Get infusion of shadows at 10 and meld with shadows at 15. Then as long as you use x/d or d/p and at least one other form of initiative regen you should be able to perma stealth. Going 30 into shadow arts is still recommended though because if you are staying in stealth that much you might as well get something out of it.

Do note that x/d requires you to hit the c&d AFTER you unstealth so you don’t get revealed and d/p requires practice to get the ideal 4 leaps in black powder.

ROFL yeah.. 80 CD on a possible 4s fear. Like EVERYONE would prefer that ksill than a short cd staff fear on Necros, or the fear you use during spectral

40 sec cd staff fear for 1 seconds vs an 80 second cd fear for 4 seconds. Seems like ours is better.

Not if you use the fear to interrupts heals, stomps etc.

Remember..
1.it’s a weapon skill for necros..a valuable utility skill slot for wars. You can have two weapon sets and it is one of 10 available skills.
2. Also, it helps necros kite by placing it between them and their target if its melee and dancing around it.
3.1200 range..you can interrupt someone reviving or stomping an ally without getting close.

Really then its a wash, a necro will fear to interupt more but the fear itself is weak. A warrior will interupt less often but when they do they can leverage the fear better simply because its so kitten long. I see your point but I personally like the warrior fear because I feel like I get more done when I use it.

Your story doesn’t make any sense, you have 15k hp and he downs you with only one interrupt. Plus if you give someone a long time to sit in down state they’ll have their 3 and you won’t which would give them an obvious advantage in a downed state vs downed state fight. You could’ve been any other class and you would’ve lost after being downed.

Make banners better

Banners are fine, you use the skills on the banner to help you move around and when a battle starts just press your weapon swap instead of 5. Doing that will drop the banner instantly at the cost of not having a blast finisher.

I feel like the entire point of 100b is to be hard to use. Its not meant to be used raw, its a potentially high damage attack but only if used in a combo. Its no different than churning earth from the ele, its a hard to use but extremely damaging move that you have to combo with.

For defiant the strategy is basically use all your weak stuns to burn out defiant stacks then one person with the best stun waits for a good time.

For pvp interupts aren’t as big as they are in other games because of the flat 5 sec cd but they still have their place. I personally just save dazes for when they heal, stuns for my bursts, and dodge if they are doing an attack.

Work on your timing

Basically you want to use phantasms when you don’t need your evasions. If an enemy misses a burst you won’t need to dodge/stunbreak for a bit so summon phantasms or if you’ve already used all your dodges/stunbreaks you might as well just shatter and use phantasms cause you can’t make clones anyway.

It is useful to note however that clones are replaced before phantasms when generating new illusions so you should only have problems when you have three phantasms out because one has to be replaced.

I like this idea, its more of trade you see. You can have the bonus damage by keeping the adrenaline or you can use it and get healing as you bring it back up. It also effectively makes burst skills heal you. As for defensive builds you can use earthshaker without feeling like you wasted adrenaline and if you gain per adrenaline strike then every time you get hit you heal with the trait embrace the pain. Imo you heal a lot more if its on a per hit recieved basis rather than a per 3 second basis.

Seriously though for one thing the warrior shouldn’t rely on just one weapon set the entire time when we can lower our swap down to 5 seconds. That being said an axe shield build works well as a high dps burst option if you pair it with a greatsword (to gap close and build up adrenaline since you don’t use its burst skill) or the rifle (to start a fight by poking at range and allowing you do replicate evicerate burst but at range with killshot). Both combos work well if you want to focus on just doing damage. With builds like these you want to focus on using your burst skills often and amplifying damage, take the trait that gives crit chance against stunned opponents (bash into evicerate) as well as axe damage increase and cooldown reductions.

If however you want to use axe shield as a suppliment for a tankier build then pairing it with hammer (for the cc chain that compliments shield) or maces (a defensive option that isn’t shield) are good options. Grabing the shield and hammer/mace traits are good and you can use axe to burst when needed.

I want every non-magic weapon, that means torch and pistol. I mean the ranger uses the torch in a non-magical way, they just throw it or light a fire, so why can’t the warrior. It could be like coat your main hand in fire to inflict burning or something. Also pistols because who wouldn’t want to use quip.

I use mending, I don’t have signet of stamina and I find I use my burst skills to often to have the lv3 heal of surge up reliably.

Seriously, any sort of non-glass cannon build using the hammer or greatsword should have no problem against a mesmer, greatsword especially. You just figure out the real mesmer (the key for fighting one for any class) and cleave keeps the illusions off your back. Greatsword 3 basically kills every illusion you touch and hammer auto chain ends in an aoe. The rest is just standard anti-kite techniques.

Warriors are one of the few classes that are good at killing mesmers granted you don’t fall for the easy tricks. Unless of course you are using a single target weapon like the rifle or a slow weapon like the mace. Then you better hope that mesmer sucks at making clones.

Rifle for the lol killshot but longbow seems to do everything better. I mean rifle is nice and all but more often than not the aoe of the longbow will beat out the rifle simply because enemies tend not to be solo.

Any bird, the swiftness makes traveling around so much better, just send them to act a mob then when they cast swiftness pull them back. They also do great dps so that makes things go faster too.

Everything we got was a buff except for kit refinement so I am very happy with this patch. inb4 muh 100nades I never really liked that build and the super elixir buff more than makes up for it (especially since I’m using all my kit refinements on that)

I know its a lot to ask but having more interrupts like stuns and knock backs would be nice, we only have our bows to do that and even then the shortbow is a one second stun and only from behind. I know pets have cc too but they are too unreliable as is to really count them.

Actually just a way to control our pets more precisely would solve many of the ranger’s problems.

Thanks for the tips guys, I really appreciate them. I think I just have trouble fighting ele’s because I treat them like every other profession and just dodge the big moves, you really have to time your own attacks against them which is different.

I keep reading the theme “players are side stepping shots in WvWvW!” but I’m curious. Most players have only two dodges until the dodge regens, during that time a LB will hit them unless they use a skill that has a dodge inherent to it. So how are so many shots being dodged? Just asking since it sounds very subjective.

Here are a few WvWvW and group PvE tactics I’ve successfully employed to mitigate dodges.
1. Target someone in a fight with another player and snipe them. Plenty of opportunities can be found in the “zerg”, defending, offensive press, etc.
2. Stick your pet on the opponent and let them waste dodges on the pet’s attacks while you kite and snipe them.
3. Always roam in a group and enter combat as a group. Fire from range while others engaged in melee, jump in and out of melee/range as needed.

Overall, get your target to stop thinking about you and something else, this is my play style.

The arrows in gw2 don’t home like they do in other games, if you don’t get touched by the projectile it simply does no damage. What is happening is that an opponent will be moving in one direction, you’ll fire an arrow where they are heading, then the enemy changes direction and the arrow misses. This effect is greater the longer the distance so in WvW where zergs fight at 1500 range you see it a lot.

This is why that arrow velocity buff was important, it became harder to dodge arrows simply by moving back and forth in rhythm.

Yes you can do it with GS swoop. The catch is that you need to have a bit of level ground in front of you. Swoop seems to follow the terrain for the first 100 or 200 in range (probably the run part). After that it continues going straight horizontally (the leap part).

So if you stand right on the edge of a cliff like in the video and hit swoop, the skill will take you down to the level of the ground directly in front. But if you stand back a bit so swoop can “rev up” by going horizontally, it’ll continue to go horizontally and you’ll jump the gap. I use it frequently to jump distances I normally couldn’t cover, and for a running jump into water before I lose my speed skills. Never thought of doing it with sword.

That’s what I thought thanks, looking at the animation its clear you jump but I wasn’t sure if you still count as charging or if its a leap. Now all we need is an exact time when you leap because monarch leap is 600 range but swoop has a total of 1200 and potentially has more leaping time.

Has anyone tried toggling the pet between passive/attack mode during the fight? I know this is a “band-aid fix” since it does not solve the problem, but it could at least get the pet out of the area and deny a CnD. Just offering as a possible, temporary, tactic.

Its easier to just call them back because once you press f3 the pet won’t attack at all unless you either tell them to or leave combat entirely and enter it again (iirc a thief entering stealth doesn’t drop your combat)

They are heal tankers, you go backstab burst thief and end it before the battle even starts. If you miss your burst you lose because you can’t out run them, if you are a sustained dps you lose because thats the exact build they counter, if you are a bunker you can “beat” an ele but you have nothing to secure the kill before they run.

Strength: Probably tanking, with the right build we can heal a lot of normal hp in addition to death shroud. Take well of blood for example, the thing can heal for over 10k, most of it aoe, if you use the clerics amulet (even more outside of spvp) Combine this with the fact DS is gained percentage wish means that higher vitality = more effective healing when you gain DS.

Weakness: Definitely cc, both our lack of it and our inability to deal with it. On the first we certainly have a lot of “soft cc” in the form of cripples and slows but we lack good stuns and knock backs the other classes have. In addition we have no stability unless you trait and even then its a grandmaster trait. Our stun breakers also kinda suck with our best being spectral walk.

I just wish you could stow a pet during a battle, like not have it come out at the start of combat. This isn’t even a thief thing I just think it would be a nice feature to have.

That being said one option could be just to improve pet attacking so that when the thief is close enough to CnD the pet the pet can actually land a hit. It doesn’t seem like much but pets HURT when it comes to thieves.

The reason d/d is annoying is because it is so hard to kill, they will either lower the amount we heal or make it easier to catch us. Both ways make it harder for us to bounce back to full hp in the multiple times during a fight.

Does anyone know if the GS skill swoop can do this? I know the first half of the skill is a charge but the second looks like a leap and the description even says a run then a leap but i haven’t really tested it.
