Has Anet ever made a gesture regarding a botch up before? I’m curious. I get the impression they don’t do the keep the community happy thing…but who knows.
Yes they have, when they botched the whole karka event in LA. Everyone that was at least there got mail with at least 2 unique exotics, a 20 slot bag and celestial account bound accessory.

Lich Form hits very hard, when it hits. The projectile is fairly easily dodged, and like Da Sonic said, you are very slow and vulnerable. Popping Lich Form in sPvP is a death sentence unless you have group support, speaking first hand here. You become a big, green, glowing target, and you get focused FAST. Unless you have very good positioning, and/or you have at least some support, you may get 2 or 3 attacks off before you’re dead. Yeah some people will exploit the lich’s damage, but most also don’t know to end lich form if need be.

Get a group of MM necros rolling, and not much is going to stand in the way. 30 of them will melt a reinforced gate faster than 3 omegas will, I commanded a group that was racing the omegas. Full t3 bay, Necros hitting south, omegas wurm. Necros were in the lords room before omegas broke down wurm gate. Gates melt even faster if someone is on a ram giving structural vulnerability, and minions continue to attack when on a ram. But, well placed ACs will slaughter, just remember you will need quite a few, Minions can soak up damage and count towards the aoe cap.

It’s a grenadier/bomber build. Grenades for that heavy ranged damage, bombs for up close and personal. Grenades average 1.2k-1.5k a grenade (remember to multiply by 3 if shotgunning or all 3 hit), bombs average 3.6-4k a hit. Good for pve and wvw, haven’t tested it in pvp though. Heavy damage, and can take a few hits.
The saga of your life is a summation of the choices you make.
On my grenadier build, the minimum I hit on my grenades is about 600, only one hits and it doesn’t crit, and heavy armor. Average, different story. Average about 1.2k a grenade, so 3.6k a toss, the Shrapnal Grenade, however, hits much harder. I average 1.8k plus bleed each grenade so 5.4k a toss. Grenade Barrage, I average about 1.6k a grenade, so, if all hit by shotgunning it right, about 11.4k a toss.

I actually main an engie in wvw, they’re one of the few classes you can switch from roaming to zerging without having to change your build. Zerg role, you are a mid to back line fighter. Grenades are one of the few AoE skills that break the 5 man limit, but be careful of retal. You also have healing turret, which is the largest water field in the game. Now for roaming I’d recommend a condi or hybrid build. For zerging, you would go with something that can pour on the damage and still be able to take a hit. Here’s an example of one of the builds I run.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdIQFAUlUUpEr9ZxALseNSbBNyw00Qu0K+5CEgjC-TVCBABCY/BPq/YoOAJuAAYpcxLlUA8AAoQJYCmgIDg+YA-w
It’s a power and crit based build, and trust me, those grenades can do a LOT of damage. Each grenade can crit at about 1.3k damage per target, and you throw 3 of them. Your number 2 skill hits even harder, the grenades can hit for about 1.6k damage each grenade. Grenade Barrage is a massive aoe burst. With bomb kit you have an extra blast finisher, or knockback, can stack might, stealth, and the bombs hit for about 4-5k each on the auto attack. Elixer C, Instant cleansing of that condi bomb to your benefit. Somthing else that’s useful to remember, Engies have many combo fields, in this one you have fire, poison, water, and smoke, and a lot of finishers, 2 blast, 1 projectile, and 1 leap in this build, learn how to combo them effectively. This build is a mid line. You can charge up with hammers, but you go squish to easy, your job is heavy aoe damage and pressure on a zerg, think mobile artillery. Yeah, not going to do a lot of damage with your condis, but remember, poison’s main effect isn’t really damage, at least on this build, but rather it restricts their healing, and combos into area weakness. If you do need to run away, drop a big ol’ bomb, smoke bomb, and you get 3 seconds of stealth. Then just run, dropping bombs behind you, glue bomb especially. I’ve wiped most of a zerg that way, I ran halfway around the map dropping bombs and they kept getting hammered by them as they chased me.

The dagger could use some loving for a pure power build, but it is the ideal weapon for a lifesteal build. Very fast attack rate for auto attack, immob for skill 3, and then the life siphon. It scales actually quite well with healing power and if you are traited to steal life on hit and on crit, then with the improved life stealing trait, you can get some impressive damage and healing. Add some clerics gear into the mix and you will notice a difference. On my life steal build, I normally heal 7-9k health from life siphon, and I have 700 healing power.

MM zergs are fun, I used to tag up and run them on HoD. Imagine a zerg (35-40) of nothing but pure MMs running around. At one point we had up to 50, we were hitting Bay in a BL. Full t3, MMs at south gate, 3 Omegas at Wurm gate. MMs, without any siege, were in lords room before omegas got through the first gate. MM zergs don’t move very fast, but are one of the scariest zergs you will encounter, or amusing things to run in.

It was requested, even though I don’t have a screenshot, for queue numbers on reset night. On HoD, we had 220 for EB, and a little over 100 for each borderland.

My point was, these are potential flaws that I hope was factored into the design and implementation of EotM. I hope these issues do not come up, I really do, but, seeing how things have been done in the past, I’m not holding my breath. We shall see.,

Well, taking a look at the Edge Of The Mists update, there are a few fatal flaws in this whole thing. Flaw number one, it will pull people from all maps including current wvw players into a zone where ppt does not matter. Two, it gets rid of the queue for the higher ranked (stacked) servers so there is no longer any incentive to leave said server. Three, by pulling players and guilds from the normal wvw maps, the entire scoring system is completely meaningless for any server that does not already constantly queue the normal wvw maps, it does this by taking the already fluctuating amount of people in wvw and exacerbates the fluctuation. For say 2-3 weeks, your server’s wvw guilds hang out in EotM, you drop ranks, they get bored, then it’s karma training and you go back up in rank. Those guilds now have to work for their ppt, no more karma training, and it’s back to EotM, rise and repeat.
I could be totally wrong, but I doubt it. Players will flock to “New and shiny” especially a lot of the wvw players that have been begging for new wvw maps. Let me be the first to congratulate you, ANet, for not listening to your player base.

After playing RTS games for years and MMOs, the less possible spawn locations/waypoints, it seems there is an increased amount of zerging/blobbing. Here’s an idea that might make some rage, but think about it’s potential. Put a waypoint on the mercenary camps (Dredge, Hylek, Ogres), and make them usable when your server has control over that mercenary camp. Those camps can be flipped by solo roamers fairly easily, it would provide a spear head into an enemy territory and unless guards are left, can be back capped effectively cutting a force off from reinforcements, and if held long enough, would allow an enemy force to come in behind. There would be a lot of potential for it. Also, it would give an underdog server far more of an advantage than a much larger server due to how easy it is to cap, and then a quick assault on an enemy camp/tower/keep to make an enemy force retreat.

What open field fights I’ve been in this week were tough, hard fights, all around. In a sense, HoD is having some growing pains, getting adjusted and fine tuned. What we do is good for the lower tiers, and good in general, just not good enough for the higher ranks. After being undefeated for so long, honestly, a lot of egos got over inflated, and it’s good to pop those every now and then. This match provided us with knowledge of where are limits are at currently, and like a sports team, it’s time to go and review the game footage. See what we did right, see what we did wrong. Thanks for bringing the fights, been a while since we’ve fought a server that bashed our face in this hard, but, I’m going to borrow military terms here, it’s “Good Training”. Enjoy your fights from here on, a good honest battle is always nice, win or loose.

The condition Necro is an attrition build at it’s heart, the longer a fight goes on, the more effective they are. Conditions are the counter play to ultra tank builds. A necromancer in Dire gear will have very high armor, around 2.7-3k, and remember they have the same base health as a warrior, so expect close to 30k hit points. This is what the class was designed for, victory through attrition, they don’t have many abilities that allow escape, few stun breaks, and not a lot of mobility.
If you want to beat a condition necro in a fight, here’s how you do it. First, don’t bother putting conditions on them, they have at least 3 cleanses, two send the conditions to you and the third increases their healing. Second, CC, lots of it. Avoid using big telegraphed moves before doing a burst, try to force a necro to use his fears to counter things like earthshaker. Funny enough, as a roaming necro, what killed me most often with warriors, was a leg specialist sword build. Constant immobilize is not a necro’s friend. Combine that with the warrior’s ability to shrug off immobilize means you’re not afraid of them sending that condi back to you. It will also be one of your few chances to actually use hundred blades in pvp.
In short, to beat a necro running a condition build, keep them locked down.

Playing through the game, there is a portion where the tanks are used in Orr. The easiest way to convert to wvw would be something similar. In short, use the same mechanics as cannons for the tank’s turrets then use the same mechanic as a ram/alpha golem if hitting a gate. They were also about the speed of an alpha golem. It would be a mobile offense/defense unit, of course it could be abused as well, but that’s my idea.

I can’t find the post at the moment, but overlays, such as overwolf and a couple others, are fine. The devs stated that an overlay such as overwolf or wuverlay are ways to enhance the content without hacking, and will not be punished.

Bring back the Death Penalty from GW1. Each time you die, all of your stats are reduced by a certain amount until you reach 60%, once you hit that threshold, your next death will instantly teleport you to spawn. Will only be removed by waypointing to spawn, using a shrine of sorts, or through killing. This would fix a lot of the issues with the constant zerg rezzing, and people not waypointing. It gets to a point where if you die more than one or two times, you start to be a hinderance rather than a help to a group and either will stop rezzing, or you’ll end up at spawn.

Engies redeeming qualities, as requested. Besides the water fields and blasting, the flamethrower is a very good PBAoE attack that can hit behind a gate to take out rams and attackers, bombs, when specced are a good option as well. Not only is it a very hard hitting PBAoE, but can also provide a bit of healing for those allies in the area. A condition engie can put every condition except torment and fear, and can get torment with a sigil, and if condi grenades, it’s aoe. Speaking of grenades, they are very useful in group fights as it’s one of the few AoE abilities in the game that breaks the 5 man rule. Each grenade is a seperate attack, base throwing two, traited three, so there is the potential to hit up to 15 people, usually 7-10 if thrown into a group.
Group support, engies have the water fields/blasts, fire fields, poison fields, smoke fields, and group regen. With Elixers, you can add group stability, group stealth, condi removal, and other buffs like might or fury.
Overall, the engie’s greatest advantage is versatility, if you know how to use it for the situation. They do have a high skill requirement though, it will take practice to learn an engie, a bad engie dies fast, a good one, however, is a very scary thing to meet on a battlefield.

The bug for transmuting, from what I can tell, is specific to the Flamekissed armor. That skin was pulled from the trading post and is slated for replacement as soon as the new set is complete. It’s probably flagged internally and causing issues.

Dear Catapult users,
We are currently unable to supply all the rocks needed for the massive amount a catapults being used. So, until we are able to get our rocks back into full production, we humbly offer our alternative, clones of Scarlet to launch and splatter upon the walls. Please enjoy this temporary alternative to the boulders.

The past 7 weeks, from a few specific servers, I’ve heard nothing but whining and complaining about HoD tanking into bronze. Fact, the week just before leagues, start of the week, Kaineng was Rank 15, NSP was 16, and HoD was 17. That week, HoD and Kaineng were facing EBay, who was rank 13 at the time, and were getting an inflated score for facing someone so much higher rank. At the same time, NSP was facing AR and GoM, and unless they stomped those two servers all day and all week, they were bleeding points. Look at how the glicko system worked if you don’t believe me.
Now, that matchup, NSP did tank during the opening, letting other gain over 500 ppt at a few points, it got to the point where NSP dropped to rank 17 at one point, pushing Kain and HoD up. Drama ensued, NSP stopped tanking and did the right thing. Now, as far as HoD tanking, we were taking a massive beating from EBay, meaning our fairweathers were not there, and some of the wvw players decided to take the week off for several reasons. One, they didn’t feel like getting mudstomped constantly, two, any push greater than what we had would give an artificial increase in points to make it seem like HoD was stronger than it actually was, three, they were tired, most of the random matchups have put HoD against servers of 5+ ranks higher. Finally, it boiled down to this, HoD knew they would not be able to compete in Silver, everything that had been worked on and built to pull us out of T8 was still too fragile and probably would not have survived Silver League, the server was not ready for it. Therefore we did what we thought was best, MAINTAIN our rank. We did not go up, or go down, in rank. Week before leagues, HoD was rank 17, day leagues started, HoD was rank 17.
TL:DR: HoD maintained their rank in the week before league, stop crying about a server tanking.

If trying to decide between engie and necro, then here’s what it boils down to. Both are good in a zerg at killing people, and both have merits for roaming. Engie, in zerg, grenades will tear apart siege and wall defense/offense plus you don’t need line of sight for them. For roaming, they have all kinds of tricks up their sleeves, immune to blind, rocket boots, slick shoes, and bombs just got an upgrade. Necros, marks and conditions are beefy, very beefy. Necros also have a lot of dirty tricks up their sleeves, boon stripping, condition spreading, two teleports (flesh wurm and spectral walk both can teleport back). For roaming, engies have abilities and traits to get them away, necros not as much. When you’re a necro roamer, and you get into a fight, you’re there until they are dead or run away. Necros are not designed to run, but win through attrition. With that being said, both are very viable for killing, I run an engie for group stuff and zerging, but when I solo roam, more often it’s on a necro, but my engie is more than capable. So, play both, decide which one you prefer, and with the last patch, engies have reliable aoe stealth and stability, just something to consider.

I have a level 80 of every profession in the game, here’s what I have learned. Each class has it’s own strengths and weaknesses, but in the comparison game between warrior and guardian, they are unique.
A guardian will never have the damage output (the damage co-efficient on warrior weapon skills is far higher than a guardian’s) or battlefield mobility a warrior has, on the other hand, a guardian has more flexibility. Both are more than capable of standing on the front lines, it honestly boils down to play style. Warrior is designed to be the offensive style, the beat stick of the party. He moves in, does insane damage, moves out or around, the offensive choice. Guardian, is a defensive role, once a guardian gets in the thick of combat, they are designed to withstand the abuse rather than avoid. Warrior is the sword, guardian is the shield. A sword, yes, has far more obvious offense capabilities and would seem to be the best choice on a battlefield. But never neglect a shield, it has a lot of capability that will surprise people.
Like I said, depends on play style, sword or shield. Even though I have all of the classes, I main a guardian, decent damage, good armor, and lots of condition cleansing and healing.

The OP is wanting suggestions for a fun class to play in WvW, here’s my input, and I have one of everything. Each class has it’s own niche that it excels at, be it boon/cc guardians, cc/damage warriors, confusion mesmers, and so forth. The class I personally am having the most fun with currently is the Engineer. Quite a bit of versatility and good survivability. You want support, ok, elixers are great, aoe damage, grenades. They have a great deal of varied utilities and kits, and with the upcoming patch that will take some of the rng out of their abilities, they become even more viable. Like the Ritualist from GW 1, they are capable of filling most roles, maybe not as good as a class dedicated to it, but still capable.

Time to be honest and blunt here, egos are the main issue, they are an issue everywhere. Here’s the difference, on higher population servers, a single ego can over ride and dominate others due to them leading a large guild. In lower population servers, the guilds are not as big, and the egos clash. Next issue to point out, is the general view of the player base. On a lower population server, when an event such as this requires an extreme amount of people and coordination, a good chunk of the people on a lower pop server instantly associate the lower population with failure and guest to another server. Now, to exacerbate the issue, higher population servers are completing the event, while lower population servers are not. This compounds the vision of the players that this event simply can not be done on their server thus increasing the guesting to higher servers.
It’s a vicious cycle, that really became pronounced with things like the Karka Queen, Tequatl is now showing the flaws of the system. I Like the challenge of Tequatl, it’s good that we are being pushed, but we are also being punished for not having the ability to rally a large number of people to a single area and then use a single VoIP for smooth communication. I’ve tried commanding at Teq, and it’s not easy at all. People don’t pay attention to chat, typing while trying to stay alive is insane, and other issues pop up, thus instituting a need for a third party program for voice chat.
What it boils down to is simple, Tequatl should not be a 80-100 person minimum fight, but rather a 40-50 person fight that uses their own event scaling system to increase the difficulty based on the amount of people at the event. By doing this, it will still be a challenge to high pop servers that bring 100+ to the event, but still able to be done on a lower pop server where 40-50 is a realistic number of people that can be brought to the event. Requiring a third party program for communication is another issue entirely, one I am not going to get into here.
I congratulate everyone that has brought him down so far, I only hope Anet doesn’t nerf this encounter, but rather, bring him into a respectable difficulty for other servers and allow the event to scale for more people, that will be the optimal scenario.
