I agree, there is no meta for this because groups want the ele for its other strengths, however…
I use my elementalist to just surf the zerg and farm with, so here is what I have been running:

Really good damage with some really decent heals.
Caution, this is VERY glass and only for surfing with the zerg if you know how to play the ele…I stay alive real well just due to positioning and killing very fast. Once we run into a group I am usually throwing down a lot of fire so I usually have over 10 stacks of might along with whatever the zerg sends my way. Then using water to heal everyone/set up water fields and throwing down monster damage with Ice Spike.
If you want a meta, look for a much different play style and build though.
I use the Naga and use Shift+ 1,2,3,4 for attunement as well. Love it…it makes everything so easy. I also use this keyboard that I just would not want to give up. http://steelseries.com/us/products/keyboards/steelseries-merc-stealth
My 2cents on Longbow:
Swap Precise Strike and Steady Focus
Move either Piercing Arrows or Eagle Eye to Adept to allow us to take PA/EE/Read the Wind
Shorten Rapid Fire to 3.5 seconds to get full damage
Make the next attack after self given stealth to do double damage (with longbow only)…only works on the next shot while in stealth, not full length of Rapid Fire/Barrage
Sven Ironclad, Spirit Guardian!
Anyone know the body type this is?
Also, it look like even on single target Sword #1 chain has higher DPS than Dagger #1 chain
From wiki:
Dagger:
- #1 chain attack sequence duration: 2.07 seconds.
- 188 + 286 +286 = 760 / 2.07 = 367 DPSSword:
- #1 chain attack sequence duration: 2.52 seconds.
- 269 + 269 + 437 = 975 / 2.52 = 387 DPSDagger: 367 DPS
Sword: 387 DPS
(dagger DPS does not include poison, but assuming you are stacking power sword damage would still come out on top after scaling)I find this odd, considering dagger only hits one target, that it would deal less damage, or even equal damage, with an auto-attack chain than sword does. I guess dagger MH has to rely solely on HS and BS to be competitive.
Which I guess makes sense, since I’m pretty certain that C&D + BS combo has the highest DPS in the game, assuming you have no down time between the two.
You said that does not include poison damage…but if you included that wouldn’t that make it 450+ DPS for dagger? Sorry if this is a dumb question.
CC is the counter to thieves. If you can get them knocked down, rooted, stunned, etc then they are easy kills MOST of the time. Also, if you see them use Shadow Refuge…then AOE it and use abilities that bump them out of it. If you knock a thief out of SR early you usually get the kill, they drop it for a reason (they need stealth/heals) and if you knock them out of it they loose both.
Actually you can auto crit out of stealth if you go down the CS tree. So that would be one auto crit there.
Not sure about looks, but they sound to me like Stewie Griffin.
Now with guesting an all race guild would work much better. Sure you could not all go together into WvW, but you would get some guys trying the guild out in PvE that might transfer over to the server the guild is on.
Another option if you are having trouble with getting behind someone is to use S/D. You don’t have to be behind them and you get a stun on them as well. I pair that with P/P. With those two weapon sets you can port to the enemy with Sword 2 and then CD them and stun them…get a few hits off and then use Sword 2 again to port away from them and then Unload with P/P (then you can “steal” to get back to them and back into melee). The mixture of melee and ranged really messes with some people when you do it fast.
Swords do need something.
My thoughts…
Flashing blade damage increased close to Leap of Faith
Add a 2 sec root to Zealots Defense
That would be enough for me
It is sword #2 skill….it even shows it on the tool bar when he is using it. It teleports you to the person and then you can push it again to teleport back to your spot you left from.
It should go to thieves….
or maybe not.
With the right use of traits in a 10/30/0/0/30 build you can get off at least 9 unloads in a row…but P/P could still use a little love when compared to rifle warriors IMO.
edit: Actually I just tested it and it is almost unlimited unloads. You just have a quick heal or roll for initiative in there between some of them.

It doesn’t sound selfish but…pop all your shouts, Tome of Courage, and heal away on a bunch of DPS classes that are grouped with you. Make them do all the dirty work, pretty selfish if you ask me.
Here you go just as a few
Volume I: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPEbzNl_mDE&list=UL
Volume II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poltQGmLu5M
Volume III: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iK-QnDSKysJust to make things clear: this videos show nothing specifically of the Ranger, this is a Problem every ranged class has (except mesmer gsword or necro scepter)
Only bows have the slow projectile speed.
Thief pistols are a guaranteed hit, engineer rifle/pistols are a guaranteed hit, thief shortbow is a guaranteed hit, ranger rifle is a guaranteed hit, mesmer staff attacks track targets…
I mean literally every ranged weapon besides possibly warrior longbow and mesmer scepter has significantly faster projectile speed than ranger bows.
Guardians would disagree
Yeah, every such video looks really good (oh and btw that Quip sound… man, this probably induces tic and convulsions in your “returning encounters”).
But the thing is – while WvW is an easy way to have solo PvP fun and I don’t have anything against it, to brag about it and to make videos?.. I dunno. You see, WvW is a game of numbers and tactics at scale without any qualification for participants. Two consequences of this would be:
1. There’s no way to predict personal pvp skill of random encounter. To the contrary, you may rely on it being mediocre most of the time.
2. Even if above is not the case, WvW (if you go there to affect server rating, score and income as part of raid) may require qute different skill- and statbuild. So those who come to WvW for what it is designed for may not be in a best position for 1v1 PvP.I personally love 1v1 PvP encounters with those solo ninja thief types (or any class for that matter) on WvW with my raid-support-specced mesmer. Because it is often a real challenge and I don’t do sPvP that much.
It is a bummer hovever that you don’t have an optimal build or don’t have time to change utility skills and weapon to be ready for duel against thief.
Please keep that in mind while you are having fun soloing WvW and picturing all your opponents as tools.
Part of WvW is picking off reinforcements as they try to make it to the zerg, picking off those who are on supply runs, and those who are taking out your servers yaks. Just because someone doesn’t follow a zerg or get into a group does not mean they are not helping out the server with the battle. If he takes out even 4-5 people on their way to join the other battles that is more than a lot of people who are just rolling with the zerg.
I think they need to get rid of the anonymity of opponents in WvW…creating rivalries and knowing your opponents helps add to server pride. Nameless enemies are hurting the game IMO.
Did a Guardian just give him 12 stacks of might? Did a Warrior just cut you down to 15% vulnerability? Too many factors we don’t know to answer.
There are a number of reasons, but it’s primarily because WvW and sPvP are different playstyles.
sPvP is supposed to feel like a sport. After each match, both sides go to the bar together to congratulate each other on a wonderful match.
WvW is supposed to feel like a serious war that has implications to each world. As such, all you need to know is it is “us” “them” and “those”. Anonymity is the best way to enhance that feeling.
I love this feature, really. Plus, when I have 30 enemies charging at me, the last thing I want to see is 30 different names that mean absolutely nothing to me. Just want to know if it’s “them” or “those”
I have to disagree. One of the best parts of the game when I played DAoC was creating rivalries….can’t do that with anonymity.
Why are people crying so much? All servers play by the same rules….all have the same zone caps on players. If all the players that are on losing servers stopped crying and decided to join forces on the same server of their choice against the guilds/servers they are complaining against then we would actually have a good wvw environment. But I guess it is easier to cry on forums instead of plan/coordinate/fight.
So SBI and BG have lots of guilds or “bandwagoners”…get your own group together from the other 20+ servers, join forces and make a game of it!
Wow…there are a lot of self centered people…I couldn’t help but think back to the good old days of DAoC and imagine one of the realms saying “Ok, we got to go to sleep, everyone stop playing…brb”…they would be laughed out of the game.
People only think of themselves when the post crap like “locking wvw when I sleep”. Do they not realize that there are not only people on different schedules all over the world and the U.S., but also different time zones even in our own country??? So lets say a father waits for his children to go to bed to play, and he lives on the West Coast, then he plays until 12pm…that makes it 3am on the East Coast and they are mostly in bed….or the other way around, a person gets up at 7am to play on the East Coast and it is 4am on the West Coast.
But all these people care about is that everyone stops playing while THEY sleep. I think what they are really looking for is sPvP, not WvW.
I call it “10 Hour Queue”
I second this.
Do we have a third?
