Feedback: Guild Wars 2 Mac 64-Bit Client

Frankly I’m quite shocked that the 32-bit client has been removed when the 64-bit one doesn’t work properly for everyone yet.

It’s nice and all that not everyone has these loading issues, but it’s pretty bad for those who do.

I gave the 64 bit client a shot again.

Still have weird texture issues on the character select screen. The game still takes quite a while to load, and even when it loads, NPC models s and certain terrain also take a long while to load (I’ve been swimming in air for several minutes).

Will we be told when these fixes will go live? I’m not using the client right now but I do want to test it again.

That’s peculiar, the system requirements mentioned on that page puts my iMac well over the required hardware.

…. So why on earth does it take so long to load everything?

I have not read the entire thread, has this problem been mentioned before? Is there something I can do on my end?

I don’t know if it’s related, but I did some quick skimming and found something about the client reading HUGE amounts of data. Could it have something to do with that?

Wait wait, did they say they’re ditching 32-bit support? When did they say this? That would be terrible news. I mean the 64-bit client has been a horrible experience for me thus far.

I mean I did get that nasty crash earlier, but at least I could actually play the actual game without having to wait a few minutes every time I move somewhere.

So I decided to try this out because of a very nasty crash I had just now after playing the game for the first time in a while.

I think the game is…. stable. But NPC/enemy models and sometimes even the environment takes a long time to load.

…A VERY long time. Can’t even move a significant distance in the same zone without somehow ending up walking on air because there’s no visible environment.

My character’s model also looks off on the character select sceen.

A “disconnect grace period” that reserves a spot for you on a crowded megaserver in the event that you disconnect.

So having returned to the game after a long time, I wanted to try my hand at Dragon’s Stand again.

The early bird gets the worm, so I got there shortly before the map “closes”. And immediately ended up on a map with three commanders. Cool!

So about 15 minutes in, I disconnect. I immediately log back in… And I end up in a mostly empty map instance, and I’m unable to pop back to the instance I was playing on.

Needless to say, I got extremely salty from that.

I both hate and love that map. I love it because it’s awesome, but I hate it because stuff like this can really ruin my day.

If only there was some sort of “grace period” where the spot you have on a megaserver instance is reserved for you so you can still get back. The way it is now, if you randomly dc or your client crashes, some random guy who keeps spamming the “join in [map]” button will take your place in mere seconds.

I got HoT because I was told there would be a season 3. It took over half a year to finally be here, and then we get so little. The fact that the devs allegedly worked their kitten off to get us this ‘quality content’ has very little to do with the reason I am disappointed. Remember that the expansion itself was also quite lacking in content.

I don’t know, to go from “play the game for three hours, then leave for two weeks” to “play the game for three hours, then leave for 2-3 months”, isn’t really much of an improvement to me. You’re all entitled to your opinion. But to work 2-3 whole months on the same kind of content that they used to put out on a biweekly basis isn’t really a step forward for someone like me.

I like what we got, but I am disappointed by how little of it we got.

Also, it’s not walled off, just log in during the episode’s original release and get it for free.

You mean one forces you to be popular and the other doesn’t care what your social standing is? Now which of these is the more antisocial one? >_>

People join multiple guilds because each guild has a different purpose. They can’t be competing with eachother because they aren’t all about the same thing.

Missing the abstract point.

Have a good day

Then explain it? That’s what you usually do when people don’t anderstand what you’re talking about.

When they do x-pacs in the future I think it would behoove them to add in middle level maps that teach the new mechanics so players have an idea of how to handle new high level maps.

That’s Verdand Brink and Auric Basin.

Paying straight up currency is easier than precious materials. If 30 active give 1 gold then boom something is covered.

Guilds don’t compete, players want something to be proud of, in turn, respond to advertising of recruitment (that presents a competing selling point of why they should join). Everyone in the mmorpg world knows what a guild hall is. If you say your hall is complete, that is competition. That would be the only reason to tell people you have it.

Yes, but that kind of ruins your Walmart analogy. Bigger guilds can’t possibly ruin other guilds because you yourself just said there is no competition.

Its by example, relax. I only demonstrate by examples.

What guild doesn’t try/compete over tagless players? If they don’t and are smaller than 50, they are a glorified friendlist.

A friends list doesn’t have a shared chat. Or a shared base of operations. Or shared organized activities. Or a place to ask for help to no one in particular and have someone respond to it.

they force you to group up to get loot at a decent pace. Hitting a target first you cant kill, or killking a monster 10 levels lower for crappy loot slowly, isnt usually too beneficial

And in GW2, you don’t need to group up for the exact same thing. Anyone can join in a fight and help out. There’s no need to form a party.

No they usually force people to be kittens and make sure you get to a target first, forgoing any chance at teamwork ever.

Walmart intrinsically competes by their sheer size capabilities.

I’m not discussing this with people who won’t read what I say. I never said Walmart isn’t competing. I said guilds aren’t competing. Walmart sells goods. Guilds sell nothing. They’re just gatherings of people of like minded interests. There’s nothing for guilds to compete over.

I don’t think anyone is arguing against the engine being old. But pointing that out is kind of… I can’t think of the word for it, but basically it really goes outside of the scope of what you’re judging. It’s a game that already exists, you can’t just write a new engine for it all of a sudden, you’d have to re-write the whole game.

What’s the difference between a gold cost (from GW1, I distinctly seem to recall NPCs coming at a rather steep price) and a material cost? Both need you either fork them over yourself or have the guild perform donations.

Explain me this though: Why would big guilds be like Wal Mart killing off the smaller guilds? Guilds aren’t competing with eachother. O_o

More people won’t add anything to SCAR lane. The bonus level goes up at a fixed pace.

Also, you’ve been mentioning this for a while now: But does the bonus level actually increase DPS? Can you describe how you were able to figure this out?

I will be the first to admit that I am not very good at explaining this, but that doesn’t make it less true. This is a complex scenario with many issues at work here and you can’t simplify it by comparing an MMO to a movie. Maybe someone with a better idea of how MMOs actually work can shed some light on this.
