You COULD always get the materials yourself. That’s what the map rewards are for. Sure it takes time, but you can get materials while doing other stuff. Like playing the game.

Honestly though, some materials are overpriced compared to the effort required to obtain them. And obtaining those yourself instead of grinding the gold for it is both faster and cheaper.

While I agree with most of what you say, I do have some words of wisdom.

-Wait it out a bit, the economy might eventually stabilize a bit.
-Wait it out a bit, ArenaNet might realise something needs to be done to nudge the economy in the right direction.

That said, don’t stop speaking out, Arenanet needs to know what you think of this.

Don’t even need your tank/healer/damage setup. Just 3 people.

Don’t get me wrong, I wholeheartedly agree with what you just said. But Anet need to be careful about draining all of the challenge from the game, and not being pushovers either. There have to be some things in which Anet needs to stand firm no matter how much people QQ. I agree that this does not have to be EVERYTHING though, but for one, I hope to dog they won’t touch masteries. And that raids will be balanced with at least an above-average skill cap.

Chak Gerent Information Pooling

Dengar.1785

I’m looking to defeat this thing. But I’m not sure if I have all the data here. I don’t know if a guide already exists out there, but I thought it’d be nice to pool some information here.

-There are 4 lanes, each with their own battle. If any lane fails, it’s game over for everyone.
-Each lane has a Gerent which starts burrowed. Each lane also has an event which is meant to make it surface.
-After the Gerent surfaces, a time limit begins. Once the time runs out, the Gerent will burrow again and the event will move further down the lane.
-After the third “round”, the event ends in failure.
-Periodically, a large pack of Chak spawn that make a beeline for the cannon. They will not fight, just run to the cannon.
-If the cannon takes too much damage, the event ends in failure.

I’ve only been on the SCAR lanes, so here’s a description of it:
-The SCAR team works on a resonance device that forces the Gerent to surface. A gauge will slowly fill up while they work on it. They need to be protected so that the gauge will keep filling. Once the Gerent burrows again, the entire team moves down the lane and sets up a new device in a new location.

Things I’d like to know:

-The Gerent has a defiance bar. It’s a very tough bar that I’ve never seen broken. Therefore I am unsure what happens if he gets broken.
-The Gerent has a kitten ton of HP. It’s very difficult to deal enough damage to it. Anyone know if there’s a trick to dealing more damage? Does he take more damage when he’s broken?
-Is there any relevance to these “levels” that you seem to be able to gain from doing well at the unburrow event.
-How do the events in the other lanes work?

Yes, I am complaining because it is bad design.

So if you stab yourself in the eye with a screwdriver, and your eye starts bleeding and you lose the ability to see, it’s the screwdriver’s fault for being badly designed? Because you should be able to stab yourself in the eye without it causing damage? That’s not how you’re supposed to use a screwdriver.

Actually, I’m pretty sure some of them are soloable, but you almost need to have the right class for it and be geared really well.

I’d be curious to know how such people feel about the time limit… the ones who have solo’d hero challenges.

You’re confusing two things. There is nothing wrong with people soloing content that isn’t meant to be solo’d. If people manage to pull that off, more power to them. The problem is with complaining about being unable to solo content that isn’t meant to be solo’d.

I am extremely puzzled by this discussion. I’m casual as kitten, but I why do people complain about it being too hard? It’s further into the game, “beyond level 80”. Just step up your game a little and you’ll be fine. I explored a lot of the map just ignoring enemies. Yeah I died a few times, even right in front of that waypoint I tried to tag, but such is life. That happened to me in vanilla GW2 as well. I’m not sure what the issue is.

Or is it just that you’re using zerker gear?

The idea that Mordremoth’s weakness is his mind is sound. And I enjoyed the epicness of that battle. The main problem is it all came too sudden. We spent almost no time trying to find a way to defeat him. We were just following Destiny’s Edge, and by the time we found them, we were suddenly thrown into the final battle. You never even explore Dragon’s Stand properly during the storyline.

The story would have been loads better if the story made you spend a little more time in Dragon’s Stand. You know how back in the Living Story one of the objectives was to do the Marionette Fight? You didn’t even have to win. Could be like that.

All that stuff you listed is irrelevant, you’ve still nearly earned 400 HP since release thus you have not been playing the expansion casually. And I’m not overestimating anything, it has been all I’ve been working on since release so I know exactly how much time it takes and you’re playing considerably more than me, and I’ve been playing more than the average casual.

Regardless of how much you actually played, there is no way for you to know how much I’ve played. You’re making an awful lot of assumptions. Which aren’t true. And you refuse to take people’s word for it as if they’re lying. That’s no way to hold an argument.

Dengar.1785

I’m not sure how you can class yourself as casual if you already have nearly 400 HP since HoT release.

Hm… Lets see… I spend hours idling in Lion’s Arch, or wherever I am really, just talking to people. I only have 3 ascended armor pieces and no ascended weapons. I have 500 in only one crafting discipline. I have a severe distaste for anything grindy, and therefore avoid things like dungeon farming for gold. I have two alts, neither of which I play very often. World completion on my main is less than 50%. I also have barely played the game at all before the expansion came out, because I ran out of fun stuff to do. I complained about the idea that the minimum requirment for raids would be full ascended.

Yeah… I’m fairly sure I’m casual. I’m fairly sure you’re overestimating the amount of effort needed to get the points.

No one forced you to play all day, every day since release.

You still have the same number of HP you earned before. You also still have the option to not play the elite spekittenil you have earned 400 points.

What on earth makes you think a “refund” makes me feel better about putting in effort that gives absolutely nothing?

And “pretending it still costs 400 hero points” is incredibly short sighted. Since other people are still getting the same stuff I get. Except they don’t get to lift a finger for it.

Am I the only “casual” who dislikes this change? I was quite enjoying playing the game for a few days working to unlock it. I almost got to 400 points too. And now all that hard work is being invalidated because a bunch of people want instant gratification. If you play casual, stuff takes longer. I like it that way.

Plus, the whole “QQ wins again” makes me fear for the future.

Dragonhunter Feedback

Dengar.1785

I’ve played around a little bit with a greatsword/staff Dragonhunter.

It’s… Not bad, I guess.. But I’m not sure if I’m actually going to run Dragonhunter once the expansion rolls around. It just feels like it’s a waste to pick Dragonhunter if you’re not going to be using a bow or traps.

This is for PvE though.

I’m thinking I might take the Dragonhunter for a spin in WvW and play Staff/Bow, and see what I can come up with.

That said, I’m hoping the final version of Dragonhunter has a bit more viability for people who don’t want to use the bow or too many of the traps. The changed virtues alone should be an incentive to consider making the jump.
