glass cannon rangers take more skill…
something most rangers havens learnt due AI pets and binded auto attack always playing the game for them…
except even with skill it will never be used top end.
Eura does! then again he’s one of the very few rangers who know how to use their pets.
Please show me a match recently vs a very top end team that he uses class cannon ranger and does really well.
well… if you don’t know eura then i guess you dont do top PvP :/ so not sure how’d know anything that happens at top level..
I do know Eura I’ve seen him play, and as I already stated because the top .5% of rangers can do something doesn’t make it good.
Also still waiting for the stream of him playing vs a top team as glass spec.
How about untraited traps.
sorry no one should suggest that ele is in a good place, but I don’t understand why we are arguing over who is worse, obviously both need help.

Aeri not really, spirits is a build for dummies, there are alos BM bunkers and trappers, but those require to play them, not mash #1 button
Rangers have a 1000 builds, doesn’t mean they’re good. BM and trappers while decent are not viable top end. Now some ranger who is in like the top .5% of rangers will come and tell us how he got top 50 in solo using traps or something, I don’t care.
I don’t see how 1 idea which is just a change in the time discredits anything. It likely would of been easier to say I think 25 seconds is too much how about 40 seconds.
If we are limited to only 1 spirit I’m calling it, I’m already kitten ed at how silly spirits are now compared to their glorious GW1 days, with every buff there was a consequence, and that was the spirit didn’t care if it buffed you or the enemy (although most enemies didn’t have a team set up to take advantage of your spirits). Not to mention their effects were better, and effects larger…
But yeah, no on the spirit idea, traps would become broken with larger radius (as much as I’d like that), and everyone knows shouts need serious work, but a 25s CD on S&R is just stupidly OP and the mere mention of that in your post discredits you.
According to you everyone in the game has been discredited so I’m not too worried about it.
Traps would also not be broken if the radius was increased, please actually read the idea before you discount it. Why would traps be broken with a larger base radius but necromancer marks and guardian what evers are not?
Also I should say as well I think the duration of the spirits in my suggestion would be increased.
S&R is useless right now what time frame is worth while for that? Is a 25 second cool down any more op then putting down an invis field and ressing people like thieves do?

Firstly spirits while they are good, the format is just bad making us extremely dependent on something that can die in like 2 seconds is just wrong.
My idea which is a different then one I presented before is this,
1. Make spirits a lot tougher like pet with no points into beast tough.
2. Allow only 1 spirit to be out at a time.
3. In 4 different tree’s maybe around the master trait line have a trait that allows them to follow you and increase their effectiveness.
This sort of almost makes them like attunements where you can add conditions, burst of some defense when you decide you need it.
Traps
Simply put these need the boost in size that necromancer marks got without having to trait into the larger ones. Our utilities are far too dependent on traits to make them even useable in the slightest bit.
Shouts
Does anyone other then that grand master healing shout even use these? Frankly these are garbage, I would rather see these turned into some sort of special pet attacks.
A example: Gore: Pet knocks down opponent holds them down for 1 second and causes 3 bleeds plus 300 damage or something.
Search and Rescue: make the cool down like 25 seconds or less.
Just a few ideas that I suspect would be useful.

Sorry Warriors are more a problem them spirit rangers were, when it takes 3 players to drop a bunker warrior below 90% health there is a problem.
It’s crazy hyperbole like this that makes A.net’s job more difficult. 3 players will absolutely wreck a warrior. Even two DPS classes can reliably overcome a warrior’s ~500-600HP/s regen if they coordinate their spikes.
Except for the fact that they can make themselves immune to 50% of most classes damage output have a lot of stability and super good condition removal. Oh and on top of that they do really good damage themselves. That is the same issue everyone had with Bunker ele’s and both ranger bunker types right?
Sorry Warriors are more a problem them spirit rangers were, when it takes 3 players to drop a bunker warrior below 90% health there is a problem.
Also please remove those useless shouts and give us some good utilities that people would actually consider using. Maybe one of those “hard to use” skills, that everyone wants us to have.
Let’s not and say we did.
constructive..
as a boon monk and an infusion monk you don’t want your teams bars, you want the enemies bars to see who their targeting. All players are not created equal, you’d find their weak player and watch them they’d almost always target early then you’d be ready.
don’t know enough about them to say one way or the other.
Please increase their basic size like you did for marks, it only makes sense, and it would allow for more possible builds.
Not much more to say other then that I guess.
where can we watch state of the game?
the problem with stopping playing is the game suffers even more, less players means less income for the game which means developers get laid off and people lose their jobs. People then have more work put on the ones left behind and everything slows down even more.
There is the rub of coarse, everything is just so slow it is painful to play right now. I’m no longer a good pvper, that time has past in gw1 I was a serious gamer I had the time of my life developing builds and playing at the highest level the game had to offer. Now when I succeed I’m very proud of it hanging around in the 200-400 level for a long time was very rewarding. Seeing it melt away because I kept playing where as others just stopped to save their rank just makes me not want to play.
Being what I consider an older gamer, 35 I’m often very patient having been involved with running games myself. I realize balance takes a lot of time and its ever evolving, and a constant process. That is a good thing the meta always changes keeping things interesting and competitive.
The part that seems so hard to keep pushing forward with is the game feels so far away in every other area of pvp then just balance. I realize pvp needs Hotjoin to make money from people renting servers, the problem is it shouldn’t be the most populated part of pvp. Solo q is so stale and it was almost a week after it started because you played with the same people for like 3 matches in a row then you’d play vs a new group. Now that less people play because it is not shiny and new anymore you play with the same people constantly then at some point face people far ahead of you or below you.
It blows me away that nothing has been done about grouping yet, or that letting people sit on 18 matches or less has been allowed for this long. I feel like everything is just a long drawn out suffering process right now.
Skyhammer a map I really enjoy, except for the couple classes that have huge advantages over the others, which makes it lose all aspects that were fun.
No real rewards, just makes us have no growth potential, I don’t really care about rewards cause I will play pvp if its fun. However the Pve in this game has constant rewards and new things to do every 2-4 weeks, we can not compete with that. Even when we get rewards we know they will not match what PvE gets, so players will continue to not care.
Most of all this last balance patch has almost done me in, forget that I am a ranger and the spirit change. I don’t like playing spirits so in some way I’m glad this opens a door for different builds. The issue being of coarse nothing else was really changed anywhere else to give us new avenues to try.
The same can be said for basically every other class, We have not had a meaningful balance patch since July 23rd, and this is what we get?
I am going to continue to play because I have so much hope for the game, but this has easily cut my play time in half. I can easily say I’ve reached a point of anger.
The only people that are happy with PvP right now are the people who liked the Ranger change for good reasons or bad reasons but that is it. I think that is a pretty sad state for pvp to be in.
As a ranger I’m very envious of Warriors and Engi’s they can play every roll in the game effectively. Bunker, Far point attacker, Burst, Condition, I wish more classes could do that.
So I should let the warrior come up and stun lock me until I’m dead and try and get my spirits out then?
maybe it’s time to start carrying stunbreaks again.
or don’t pop all spirits at once.
I don’t want to play spirits, I’m not sure what your arguing. The idea that I can use 1 or 2 spirits and some other utilities instead you clearly haven’t played ranger. Traps, Spirits and healing all require at least 2-3 traits to be useful at all. I would love to use 1 spirit 1 trap and a stun breaker, and still have some form of condition removal/survivability. We don’t have the tricks other classes do to survive/disengage.
My real argument is fine spirits are dead, great…I’ve got nothing else that will be middle tier.
So I should let the warrior come up and stun lock me until I’m dead and try and get my spirits out then?
The most frustrating thing for people who want to play spirits now are those classes that can run up to you and instagib your spirits all of them at once. Yes people can do that.
-All spirits can now be launched, knocked down, and knocked back.
This was a bug fix which now will allow more counter-play when fighting spirits.
-Storm Spirit, Frost Spirit, Sun Spirit, Stone Spirit, and Spirit of Nature will now begin their recharge when the spirit dies instead of when the spirit is summoned.
-Storm Spirit, Frost Spirit, Sun Spirit, and Stone Spirit: Recharge has been reduced from 60 seconds to 25 seconds.
-Spirit of Nature: Recharge has been reduced from 240 seconds to 180 seconds.
Previously you were able to pre-cast spirits before a fight so that when they would die you could instantly re-summon them. This made it feel like there was little to no counter play. Players could take the time to AOE them down simply to have to deal with another set of spirits. These changes were made so that there is a time window where the ranger will be without spirits once they die. Since the spirits now die after their duration, we had to reduce the recharge to compensate. In fights where they are dying often, the shorter recharge is a buff.
Solar Flare: Fixed a bug so this skill no longer applies a duplicate infinite duration blind.
This was a simple bug fix removing unintended functionality.
I understand the knockdown thing (although that could be the hardest nerf out of the 2) BUT I thought the timing the spirits was one of the few things spirit rangers had to actually plan out.
I mean that’s removing the potential for good gameplay is what that nerf is. Now if people still play spirits it will be even more mindless and less beneficial :/
How does this change remove the potential for good game play? Before a spirit ranger could go into a fight with spirits already out and off recharge allowing them to instantly re-summon them once they died. There is no counter play to that.
The spirits last for a limited duration so that the ranger must make a conscious choice when to summon them or else they could go on recharge early in a fight if you use them ‘mindlessly’. This also provides a downtime window of 25 seconds once they have died that a player knows they can deal with the ranger. This works consistently with other minions now.
We are obviously watching any changes we make closely and will make adjustments if it is necessary.
I have no issue with the change as a ranger, it basically kills spirits but whatever I guess. All these people saying Oh evade forever. Great Who can evade for that long? no one can, also evading does nothing for the mass conditions that will still be on me.
On top of that Rangers were no longer OP, the meta changed away from rangers already and most classes could beat rangers.
The thing I’m tired of the most is, this massive swing in killing our abilities/Raising them. We are constantly completely killed then completely over fixed, I don’t know how anyone with a brain can look at these changes and assume ranger will be ok in pvp with really no other big loss to other classes as well.
This whole were going to make you suffer while we think of the next over fix for you has got to stop.
Also to those talking about traps and BM being viable, they pretty much were because they were decent vs Spirit rangers. The only reason you will see them for a little while now is because people will be trying all sorts of new builds to find something that works.
Here is a suggestion to help rangers, stop making every utility dependent on 2-3 traits to be useful.
2 thoughts about this thread.
1. Euros are mad because they were the weakest region in GW1, now they’re better so they can talk a lot I have no issues with it myself.
2. Honestly as soon as I seen the team makeups I knew Sync was going to lose, the meta changed and they didn’t adapt, CC did.
Everyone seems to think that playing a spirit ranger is so easy to gain ranks on the leaderboard, it is anything but right now. There is like 5 warriors every match and throw in some engis and theifs. People are build to beat the condition meta and it gets harder and harder every week.
I would actually kind of laugh if it was nerf’d next patch, I think changed is likely fine but made weaker will kill it unless it is slight tweaking. Devs seem to over patch rangers in the wrong areas so it goes from super weak to super strong and back and forth. Until they make our ultilities better, and do a lot of trait work, rangers will continue to be easy to play. That doesn’t mean they’ll be super strong or weak the class just has limited ways to be hard I guess.
Do you consider being able to solo 4 people good? Because that is not balanced, that is overpowered.
no ranger can solo 4 players unless those 4 players are awful.
0/10
Your ranger looks like pure trash. Here’s mine:
^ ^
o o
,….,
well uh 0/10
also I’d say they should promote playing
well the issue is the same thing happened in gw1, teams would get to the top then start playing on pug teams. I completely understand why people do it, I mean if you can why not. I guess as someone who actively plays solo queue I want to know the people ahead of me are actually fighting for their position not just sitting there.
I feel punished for playing, in solo queue. I could of just sat on the really good start I had and likely still be top 200 instead because I actually like to play the game I continue to fall in ranks while the people I was ranked near before play on other accounts or don’t play at all and do other things.
I don’t think leaderboard decay is needed just have a required 10 matches per week to stay on the rankings list. And each week missed it adds up 10-20-30 etc, this would erase the need for leaderboard decay because people would have to play.
If you start late after the season starts you simply start the 10 per week from when they start playing their matches.
I’m not sure what that proves, did you just play a bad pvp spec before?
what you mean is warriors then everyone else, this is what I was worried about when warriors became good there is 100,000 of them and 6 in every match.
I hope if spirits get a nerf it is only in the internal cooldown of the procs, because I consider it a pretty solid and surely not overpowered build. Overall tho I think all the top classes need to be weakened, I think we are in a bit of a power creep, but what scares me the most is I can see necro, ranger, engi, getting nerf then warriors dominating. They want so badly for Warrior who is now really viable to be the best and the hordes of people who play warrior will whine and cry until they beat everyone easily.
People are using warriors to attack far point vs rangers, I’ve seen atleast 2 very good warrior builds recently that were effective against me. 1 was some sort of longbow and mace/sheild bunker build which was pretty insane, the other is the stun build.
I hate seeing warriors because most have no clue what their doing, and cry non stop, while there are some exctemely good ones that hold their own in every match.
Also spirits or not ranger is easy to play, the class would need a complete redo to be made “more difficult to play” I would rather things just be changed a bit I’m fine with alittle more difficult, but as a more or less casual player I’m pretty happy that I can be competitive by being smart.
Also as a Ranger player it took me 5 minutes to learn Necro and Warrior.
lol try to play a power ranger without Empathetic bond ( or even with it) then come back here and say it again
That makes no sense, what is difficult about playing a power ranger? Playing a build that is not smart and not viable and not doing well, does not mean its hard to play.
Please inform me of what difficult combonation of skills you use, which makes it hard to play?
Also the same thing could be said about Spirit ranger, play a spirit ranger without any armour on, you will lose, but its not any harder to play it.
I’m not sure I understand what the issue is, yes condi beats direct damage, for 1 very simple reason, most condi builds are very strong defensively. Most DD builds are glass or next to it.
I can tell you as a ranger you have to load up on toughness and the talent tree that has toughness for any pvp build. I see this as one of the main issues, with pvp build diversity. You either load up on defense or your easy to kill, I kind of wish these options were not available. It should be everyones the same except for armour class, from there you take some defensive abilities and maybe some traits that makes you different.
Also spirits or not ranger is easy to play, the class would need a complete redo to be made “more difficult to play” I would rather things just be changed a bit I’m fine with alittle more difficult, but as a more or less casual player I’m pretty happy that I can be competitive by being smart.

No your just in the range where more people are playing.
yeah I would agree, there is no need to reset people. The more I think about it you should have to play the amount equal to 10 matches a week for how long the ladder has been open.
Because otherwise people will just sit for a few weeks then when they decide to play, they play their 10 matches and come back on. I think if you don’t play for 3 weeks you need 30 matches. However the issue with that is new players or people that start late so it would have to go on when you yourself joined the ladder.
should play more games than 10 to be shown on leaderboard
you do have to play more then 10 matches to be shown, but I think you have to either give more incentive for the top to play more often “more ideal” or force them to.
another option would be like baseball does for the batting title you need so many at bats or in this case games to stay on the ladder.
Seeing all these top guys not playing on the solo q leader board is a bit frustrating, I can’t blame them because with this sort of system it benefits the top to play the least. However that being said it creates a wall almost so people don’t move at the top, the same thing would happen in gw1.
I propose that you should need to play 10 matches a week to stay on the leaderboard, it is not a lot but it is also enough that you can’t really hide at the top either.
Storm spirit should scale with power. That might be nerf enough. It is the same reason BM was nerfed, 3k+ damage on a bunker is not ok.
I would not mind a storm spirit nerf I wouldn’t mind taking something different and running 2 spirits. However in the end I just don’t want to play spirits, I’d love a viable build that is not pet or spirit required.
Anyone that says only 1 build can beat spirit rangers have no credibility I mean seriously play some matches. Engis Beat Rangers, S/D theives Beat rangers, Warriors can beat rangers, and yes necros can beat rangers also. So half the classes in the game can beat Spirit rangers, not sure I see how that is broken.
I beg to differ. Yesterday we defeated a team that had 4 spirit rangers and we only got 3! It’s possible!
Just remove that grandmaster trait in PvP which allowes your spirits to follow you. This way it’s good for bunkering and maybe people won’t stack it.
Spirits would just not be used then.
Also why do people seem to think Spirit rangers have good mobility? We are pretty much on the same level as Necros unless you take some bad weapon choices.
Also I will say this, 50% of the rangers I see in tourneys are not Spirit rangers, I still see BM, traps, and some god knows what with a greatsword
I hope they kill spirits, please god I hate this being dependent on things that can be 1 shot by a warrior and guard?
I think spirit buffs and trap buffs and what not should be divided into different talent tree’s like 1 tree has fire trap and a different spirit, the next has spike trap and stone spirit. I think we will always be limited if we have to go mostly traps and spirits with our utilities. having a build that has a trap a spirit and a signet woud be pretty cool if we could spec for it.
Our utilities are pretty bad in general, the shouts are gross it’d be nice to see some work done there.
Firstly we don’t see the result of the 1st match, the 2nd match has nothing to do with spirit rangers, 1 team has 3 bunkers and the other has 1.
Engi’s beat up on rangers fairly well, so do theives, so can necros, even super stun warriors can beat spirit rangers.
I had to laugh some wind bag Warrior was trash talking me in a match talking about how easy a spirit ranger is to play… I mean really since when was a warrior hard to play, Warrior is not as good as ranger overall but it is no harder to play.
Infact I will say that there is no ranger setup that is hard to play…I’m sorry, we just don’t have as much gimmicks as other classes.
Just curious why can someone flag plant me when I’m downed blind, but i can’t interrupt them? This doesn’t seem like balance to me, however I can see the issue of never being able to flag plant someone because there is too much support if blind prevented it.
I think that is more an issue of there is too much aoe blinds and fears and etc etc tho.
I just feel like everyone needs less, less aoe, less conditions, less CC, less evades, less stability. Anyway real issue blind downed should = blind up.
