well I have been doing that, I think some of the issue is everytime there is a patch with pvp stuff, there is an equal or larger pve patch and everyone goes and does that because it has rewards and new stuff.

actually I do rather well, when I do play with people I generally hold my own, I am by no means an elite player but I’d easily say above average. The problem being the above average people and below are not grouping as much compared to the top end players.

On top of that I was a top end gw1 player at one time and even before that when I was bad it was never an issue finding a group for hoh or gvg, the large majority is just not as interested in that anymore.

Give people some sort of progression or some reason to group up for tpvp, I’m pretty much at the point of quiting because all I do is jump around in the mists all day. Asking on map for a team and in guild for a team, people are not interested other then the people who already have a team and they mostly just play with them.

I realize I could just solo q but that is not why I play this game I wanted to play semi competitively, but it is so hard to get people to play it is awful. I’m not sure why I’m wasting my time anymore because I just jump around the mists messaging people and it is only getting worse.

yeah again I’m not really getting at anything other then what my ranger can’t do, Not even saying I think its overpowered or anything.

No where in there did I say Engi’s are too strong or anything related to that, if anything I’d say Res healing is maybe too fast Or that rangers need more damage output.

Its clearly not a l2p issue because you didn’t even state that I could do what I’m saying I can’t.

As a ranger I cannot stop someone from ressing a teammate, unless their bad. My BM build with my insanely strong huge dps pets, can not outdamage the heal or damage the person trying to do the heal enough to stop them, focus’d or not with my bow or sword.

Now I can stop them for a second or 2 with fear or a stun, and maybe a knockback. However if some class thats tanky wants to heal someone I can not stop them unless I can flag plant them which well with a downed player who can prevent me from stomping once and another class that may have 2-3 ways of preventing me, thats more then enough time to res someone.

Not sure what I’m getting at other then Engi’s don’t have my issue.

I do tend to agree, I’m really leaning towards some sort of power build of a 20/20/30/0/0, my issue in tpvp is, There is nothing special with this build I don’t know who it beats. Sure spotter is nice but your still in the I give an ok buff to my team while doing single target damage.

To me ranger should be a roaming class, and these are the things I know. with all the speed buffs I have available I can not run away from anyone. Traps I do like, but their not really that good, and its just another mass aoe which is part of the games problem.

I feel like our utilities are just not good overall, spirits and shouts are not really decent. Signets are not too bad but not overly good either.
Shortbow they just made the problem worse, by increaseing the damage of 2-5, now they are just more spammable and still somewhat meaningless. I’d much rather those skills have longer cooldowns and just be something more effective, and need to be used smartly.

I’m wondering if there is some sort of viable BM Shouts build with the new grandmaster trait. Something like 0/0/20/30/20. With Shortbow and Axe/torch maybe. I wish there was some more options in that tree that felt better.

Is there a shout worth using in tpvp to make the new grandmaster trait useful? Potentially the stun break I guess, but then you’d have to wait for your pet to get back to you, I don’t see it.

to me this has to happen for Spirits to be viable. not only that it opens up a lot of 20/30 point nature magic builds with some potentially nice options.

Here is an issue on this part I wanted a spirit build and the new master trait, but you basically have to give up spirits unbound for the new trait, which hurts this build.

If they would move spirits unbound to master, Then we could have natures voice as our grand master.

I was thinking this would be an Axe/torch and maybe sword/torch build.

As a BM ranger I am fine with the pet nerf, the issue being we really didn’t get anything else. Spirits are useless for the most part because if you have them following you they will get aoe’d down fast. If you leave them in 1 spot you pretty much have to stay near them.

Longbow I don’t really consider a tpvp weapon, some bunkers used it because you could knock people out of the cap space, but in the end the damage will likely never be too good. Shortbow which was overall I’d say rangers best weapon, is weaker but I’d never really say it was too strong.

I’m not going to try and complain too much yet, I do suspect these are the patch notes maybe not all of them. Have to see what builds come out of this, I just don’t see us doing enough damage to take down a class that can stay alive somewhat well and dish out damage.

I found it better, much more even skill wise. During the day time it will be sketchy regardless because of lack of players. I suspect at night it will work rather well.

As someone with Dev in their name I feel that this is directed at me, and I have to say I do think A-net is on the right coarse. While I do greatly miss a lot of aspects in gw1 this game is not at the point yet where it is anywhere near a finished product.

its been stated several times that GvG turned into Turtling until the end of the match when everything would be decided. I think the Devs do plan on bringing back GvG but are struggling with a way or idea on how to make it more action packed.

I don’t think we will see a death match any time soon because you could have a team of just all theives run and hide constantly, which would be awful.

I think the big balance patch at the end of June will give us a good idea of how the direction of the game is going.

you will have no arguement from me that GW1 was much more dynamic then gw2. However in this day and age and with how large scale these games are, they have to be released long before they are actually ready. There is just too much time and money needed to release games in a finished state anymore. it is the case for every MMO, they are all always in a state of being finished/fix.

The majority will not quit if you make it worth their while to create teams. Currently there is no reason to have a team, other then people would rather complain on the forums about facing teams.

I think matchmaking works rather well. and sure there are lots of examples of teams playing teams they shouldn’t be. Oh well, in GW1 it used to happen all the time as well, Team ranked 1000 vs team ranked 5. Boo hoo, I mean seriously cry more.
Get a team and play or at least a team of pugs. Because unless there are hundreds of people from all ranks playing at the same time all the time, you will get matchups like this.

Everyone wants a Solo queue, it is an awful idea, and it will kill tpvp. Solo queue should be completely gone, I mean its a team game get a team. If you want to play mby yourself go spvp.

I don’t really see it that way, I mean consider all the things that need fixing or tweaking then testing etc etc. Creating a game takes a lot of time I have faith that it will get there in time.

Just been looking through wiki, and see some titles seem rather unrealistic here is a great example.

Yakslapper Destroy 1,000,000 total caravans in WvW.

if you kill 500 Caravans a day it will take you almost 8 years to get this title.

I think the rank point system should be changed, in how you get rank points. Maybe to a win/loss point system rather then kills, revives, captures etc. I just find that in Solo queue people are just running around in waves killing people and capping then moving on in a constant rotation.

I guess the point I’m making is these points do not promote good team play. For example I play a ranger I use 2 builds my trap build and my Beastmaster build. Most people complain about the beastmaster build as being too strong etc "the funny thing is my rank has steadly dropped since switching to it. On top of that the rank points I earn have also dropped because I am often guarding back point for example and not running around in the “group”.

I think earning points for holding a spot would be pretty beneficial I know you get points for defending the point, but if your not being challanged much you could finish the match with not much at all.

Some people are going to say well why don’t you go help out when they are not challanging, well here is the thing about that and you see it a lot. If someone does a great job defending point vs people, they might not keep coming back unless there is help. If that person leaves who is defending then the point will be taken because they will take a peak then grab it.

Maybe the answer is just another defending the point stat, for time held or something. I’m not really sure.

Um maybe its just me but in tpvp rank should not matter in matchmaking. Your position on the leaderboard would.

The rank 8 person could be really good and ranked high, or for example where I see lots of rank 40+ warriors really low.

I think a 3v3 team play 1 cap would work, much easier to find 3 people to play then 5. It is pretty much like a death match because there is only 1 point. Also it prevents grieving with people who just avoid combat.

Curious, as a player who played in some top guilds from the release of guild wars 1 I haven’t heard of any of those guilds you mentioned. That being said at the top end aside from the very best guilds like iQ and the korean guilds the rest often split and reformed several times. Myself being in Sissy Boys, Ivy League, and iQ for a very short time.

Using the argument of “living player vs downed ranger” is not a good way to measure the power of the ranger’s downed state abilities.

Rather, you need to compare the downed state of other classes side by side with the ranger in order to truly understand how powerful the ranger’s downed state is. Downed rangers beat everyone who is downed also, and they can even beat downed warriors depending on the initial distance between the two.

Even in the “living player vs downed ranger” scenario, rangers have a significant advantage over other classes who are downed vs a living opponent. Rangers with dual DPS pets can burst living opponents with back-to-back F2 pet skills while downed (6-8k burst from the first pet, another 6-8k burst from second pet). If the ranger went with the CC pet route, they have the potential to interrupt the opponent’s stomp enough times to easily gain access to Lick Wounds (fear, knockdown, #2 daze, swap pets, fear, knockdown). In a team fight situation, this makes it much easier for allies to assist the downed ranger.

I love how people when they want to say rangers are too strong they talk about rangers like they have every ability and pet at their disposal no matter what talents they have.

Sure ranger vs other down players is strong, but warriors can beat us, as well consider for a second the rangers alive vs dead abilities. Other classes can disappear or any variety of things to plant a player. How about a aoe invis to heal people, as you said you can not look at it in just 1 way. In all the downed player scenario’s at best were very good in downed vs downed compared to most classes, but easily not as good in others.

In an attempt to fix things at least for myself and others I have created a guild that sole purpose is for finding groups for Tpvp.

The ranks in guild are changed weekly to reflect your current standing on the leaderboard. This guild will serve 2 purposes, finding groups for everyone that wants to join. “really I don’t care if people represent or not”

Also Teams that are looking to recruit a new member or whatever are more then welcome, this way you can see how people are doing on the actual leaderboard when you try them out.

The end goal of coarse is finding groups to play with and hopefully maybe even creating more teams.

Everyone can complain about balance all they want, but in the end Balance is not this games problem. Balance will change constantly and people will adapt, I have faith they always balanced fairly well in the end with GW1.

The real issue with GW2 is much deeper then that and at this point I have to say for the first time, I am not enjoying the game. This game has taken away everything that I look for in a mmo mostly these things fall under 1 heading “Community”.

Everything is for the solo player in this game, unless you count wvwvw which is the only real group ranking.

Pretty much all Team based things that are in the game are not very good. Guild bounties, dungeons etc.

The only ones that really group in PvP are the high ranked people who want to compete at a high level and only except rank 45 or higher players. “which is fine of coarse”

Myself the average player or even below average player I can ask in map chat for hours in the best tpvp server in the game Anvil rock and I will want people run by me and solo queue.

The reason why people say the game is failing or lots of people have left is very simple, Community keeps people around, guildies or competitors or just friends.

I think having solo Leaderboards before you have Team ones is a mistake it just promotes people not playing together outside odd guilds here and there and the very top players.

Also some sort of raid group option for wvwvw only makes sense. I know this is the s/tpvp forum which is why I am actually making this rant there was a few other things I wanted to add.

p.s the Mists needs 1 server the community for spvp and tpvp atleast to me seems to small. When I was on gates of madness things were very dead.

Here is the thing, there is more then enough players for a lot of teams, but because the actual game itself hasn’t forced people into team rankings people are just solo playing. So the game is very limited at least for now for teams.

Also I would not do a draft the community is not that close that everyone knows everyone outside of the top players likely having a decent idea about eachother.

Your big challange will be finding enough teams to do anything meaningful. Where GW2 does not promote team play at all there is a very limited amount around. It actually amazes me how unorganized the GW2 community is in a age where a lot of people playing likely Raided several times a week in WoW at a set time, in masses I doubt you could even do that in pve in GW2.

However I have an idea that could be fun and also get a decent amount of players involved plus maybe help the community grow.

A Pug tourney, basically just setup the time and when everyone shows up you randomly assign them to teams of 5 and have a tourney. The Hard core Team types likely would not like it but you may create more teams by doing it.

8v8 would be so different now on the gw1 maps, I imagine something like 1 flag runner, 2 base attackers/defenders/ and 5 in a main battle group. Then different variations of that.

on the Maps now, I’d say that 8v8 would be too much…. Probably either 5v5 or 6v6 could be good…. on bigger Maps with bigger Nodes and more open Areas around the Nodes, 8v8 could potentially work as well.

I think you missed where I said the GW1 maps, and not HoH, the gvg maps.

I also agree you can make the lord and supports better to balance this stuff. I would love to see the flag play in gw2 with the death penalty.
