Yeah either soldiers or sentinal depending on how coordinated and dmg heavy the enemy team is. Soldiers can actually do some decent dmg too once you have your boons rollin, auto attack away with that sword!

I really think a good option for making baseline specs more viable is giving up more when you take the elite, like say an entire utility sub-group. You gain one, why not lose one?

examples: Chrono giving up glamours to gain wells (would lose portal and time warp thematically very weird but w/e)

Scrapper giving up gadgets like SS to gain the gyros

Reapers giving up signets

DH giving up meditations etc.

Not sure what to do with Zerker and DD, but ideally the things the elite spec gives up are valuable skills that would make the choice difficult.

This would also lead to my next idea….

Take shiro from Heralds. Yeah, this may be a bit harsh, but it makes sense in my mind, the sustain, dmg and mobility givin by this combo is just ridiculous, rev are too multifaceted in this regard. It’s why we are seeing 2 or more per game in pro leagues. The herald line is about boons and sutain, but they are allowed to keep the crazy mobility from shiro. Combo this with Mallyx for the condi pressure and group resistance and you have a spec that no one would ever not take. The Glint stance isnt even being takin atm because you get so much just from Herald and shield anyway, without giving up much of anything.

anyway, that’s my 2 cents, maybe not the best examples but I’m sure you guys see where I’m going with this. These kind of hard choices would shake up the meta a lot, and bring the baseline builds back into play a bit.

I agree let’s make everyone invincible toughness tanks that apparently no longer need vitality to counter condi. Or condi clears.

It’s not a weird question. If anet balances for the soloq population the high end pvp will suffer and anets esports goal would be impossible.

lol not to mention that “Balancing around soloQ” is actually impossible. When more people start actually caring about team comps, counters, map-positioning etc. maybe the e-sports dream will live, as of now no-one seems to give a kitten about getting better or learning the game.

A very neat way they could buff bs damage but not make it ‘zomg op oneshot’ is to give it armor penetration.
So it would become ‘hit your foe from the shadows striking for double damage if you hit from behind. This attack ignores 15% of your foes armor’. This way it would not be that much of a damage buff against targets that did not build additional toughness in to the build, but it would be noticeable against bunkers.

Also vault should cost 6 initiative, like every other terrestrial weapon skill 5.

Actually armor penetration could be a really excellent idea for BS and thieves in general; the current meta seems to be leaning toward bunker/cele heavy comps with revs as dmg dealers, a nice change up to this would be giving a class like thief (warrior too for that matter) a way to get through some of this extra toughness/protection that seems to be more prevalent now. This would give bunker’ing on point a decent counter without making thieves into outright 1 shots for classes that dont have a lot of toughness, mixing up what I feel is going to be a stall meta if nothing is changed. Prime candidates would be Backstab, obviously, and maybe a new SA trait the allows you to ignore some toughness(and maybe protection?) when you come out of stealth so going in for a quick, well-timed burst on a bunker isn’t so useless.

I think you gotta give it more time before you start tearing into this, not everyone has played enough to get into 2 yet, most of the player base in HotM that I see are 1, so until there is some population in the higher tiers we are going to be facing everyone. When the playbase has spread out more I’m sure we will see matchmaking pair up people within the same tiers…if not than there really is no difference between leagues and old ranked queue matchmaking.

You know whats funny ive been playing it most of the morning… I hate to say it This kitten is kinda boring. I miss my power mesmer….now im considering trying alts… Reaper/Tempest D/F/Scrapper…Who knows maybe Ranked wont be so bad as power mesmer.

Yeah its such a strong build but kitten its boring, I feel like I’m not doing much of anything when I’m not killing things…even though my winrate has been much higher playing bunker over standard power mes cause I can hold points all game, distract like 2-3 ppl at a time and I’m not dying to incidental AoE condi’s etc. when I actually engage in team fights. The roaming role is not nearly as important in the current meta IMO, it seems like sustaining on points is gonna be how matches are decided now…

So yeah…its boring.

Yeah that’s kinda the issue with player summoned weapons, they are either useless/extremely situational so you never take them, or they are the highest dmg/support and they are mandatory for everyone to use in any serious group environment.

Queuing Outside of HotM

Yeah we need the option to Queue outside HotM.
It’s killing your games watchability on twitch (noone wants to watch a stream where 70% + is spent running around HotM)
It makes PvP a commitment, if you want to pvp for a bit you have to drop everything else, no crafting, or world exploration, nope you need to jump around golems for 10-20min.

Please allow this! Maybe add some restrictions like you need to be in HotM to start the queue so you make sure you build is right, maybe make it so new players going to queue for the first time need to go in and make their build/do the tutorial area.

Quickness + Stomp, what’s wrong?

Yeah the quickness animation vs. the time it actually takes to stomp has always been broken but now it seems like it just dosent work at all sometimes. Only tip I can say is wait a bit and watch for the enemy’s name to turn grey, but it has honestly just not worked no matter how long I wait. Seems like you are better off letting someone else stomp or doing so without quickness if you can safely do so (rarely) cause its a kitten gamble right now :\

Yeah its really lame, I second the motion to make it look like a wrench like the Fixer Upper. Also one of my less-informed guildies kept calling this enemy scrapper a warrior in WvW. I had to explain to him multiple times “No thats an engi” he was like “isnt that the new warr spec icon?” was kinda funny but sad at the same time.

So I’m creating this thread so I (and anyone who feels like it) can just post “okay, this is cool” whenever you find something new you like.

My turn: Superior Sigil of Absorption – Steal up to 3 boons when interrupting an enemy (no icd).

I spotted it in the inventory of the Itzl vendor right at the entrance to the Verdant Brink. So you’ll need to up your Itzl masteries.
Not in sPvP, though, sadly.

Actually got one as an optional reward for completing 1 of the story quests, I’m not sure which one but they gave an option of all 3 new “on interrupt” sigils (might on int is one, I forget the other one)

This has been bothering me for awhile now and I’m sure there are many in the community that know what I’m talking about; crafting exotic zealot’s is waaaay too expensive due to limited insignia recipes.

I am a player that primarily plays WvW and Spvp, so money has always been an issue for me and I never committed to ascended crafting because it was such a huge time sink that for me was not really worth the stat increases, I could always get by on skill wearing exotics with ascended trinkets/amy etc.

I started getting into frontline guardian recently and my guildies and others in my WvW community all expound how awesome zealots gear was and that its the best way to add some support and sustain without killing your dmg, so I looked into how much it would take to get some of this stat set crafted…

only to see the recipe for the exotic insignia being around 140g.

I missed out on a lot of the Scarlet content, I did not have a lot of time to play back then, so the idea that there is a diminishing number of insignia recipe’s because it was locked into this 1 time content from a specific time in GW 2’s history really frustrates me. I don’t understand why there hasn’t been a new way get this recipe, and I’m sure there are plenty of other examples of old content being the only source of something that is now stupid-expensive.

A-net, please for the love of those people who play your game but don’t always have the time to farm 1 time pve events make alternate ways of getting this stuff. WvW could use more rewards honestly, and I while know you guys loath to make it a viable source of income adding something akin to pvp tracks within WvW with stuff like crafting recipes/skins in WvW would be amazing. With HoT coming tomorrow there can be factions in the jungle that could sell it for a reasonable price (though the fair thing to do would make a way to get it in the base game too). I really hope something as important as an entire stat set never gets locked into 1 time content ever again.

Personally I haven’t had this problem for a long time, but thats mostly because I’ve been fighting against and as an Asura since launch.

There should absolutely be an option for this for people who do struggle with it, I can’t see a good reason against it. Hell, I imagine having standard models rendered rather than individual races would help lag for people with older computers in large fights, and we want to make WvW accessible to as many people as possible (this might be completely wrong, just speculation :P)

I don’t agree that stealth is the problem, and until recently condi’s seemed kinda w/e to me…mostly because I roam with mesmer or warrior so I avoid the hell out of condi guys I see (check food buffs) but I got my ranger to 80 the other day and geared up the Gladomer way w/ full Dire and hot kitten that stuff is OP. I see what people mean by doing as much dmg as zerk but with tank stats.

I was easily 1v1ing people the very first night I tried the build, and I even got some really clean 2v1s against lesser players. I think condi is just too good when you also have vit+toughness, with the WvW scaling the dmg you can put out from bleeds alone will kill people, throw some burns on their aswell and its good night for anyone without massive condi removal.

Zerk you at least need to stay on your toes the whole time, cause any +1s or random AoE can kill you pretty quickly, with this dire build I could shrug off incoming damage easily. Most condi classes at least seem to lack movement, in combat ranger has a bunch of evades and a leap but outside mobility is weak without travelers, so like I said before just move away if you see condi builds honestly. Especially mesmers, let them stealth forever, they do run out of cd eventually, use terrain and npcs to your advantage (if you stand next to a npc the mesmer might hit them with an AoE like prestige going off for reveal).

Condi is not so great in the big zerg fights with all the spam cleanse and aoe, so the only real place where it is too strong is 1v1 roaming fights where the enemy stays and fights.

Bomb Kit Animations - Vanity Killer

Yeah new animations for that would be nice, I’m worried they are busy dealing with other stuff more atm. What if the animation was more of a casual bomb-drop, take out the bent-over position and have the character flip the bomb onto the ground out of the bomb kit, would work better with a current running/moving animations + all the different types of armor/outfits you might have.

Yeah honestly I dont believe this will have a negative effect on WvW as some are trying to claim. Let’s be real here; lvling without established toons is a PITA. The number of people who will actually go through this process just to troll will be low, not saying no-one will do it but this idea that everyone is going to bother lvling a second account to 60 just to mess with other servers is BS. Most internet trolls do not have this sort of dedication, if they can troll easily and without consequence sure they will do it, but when they have to put valuable time into something like leveling a free account most CBA.

Lets be honest here, this is a response to the Chronoshift f5 shatter, because during the time you have with it it was ALWAYS advantageous to spam all your shatter before it ended, and this trait made it so that each one was a +2 clone shatter rather than just 1 from IP. I do agree that this change does not really change all that much, it is still going to be worth spamming your shatter after f5 now we are just going to have to either dodge or use decoy etc. to make sure we have at least a few clones per shatter. It seems more tedious, but maybe they are trying to make the new mechanic less spammy. We’ll have to see how this plays out.

Issues with latency and alt tab

Been playing some pvp matches recently, and I noticed that whenever I alt+tab to change music or anything I cannot get back into GW2 it keeps minimizing no matter what I do. Had to restart during a match that was very close, may have been able to won but my character was probably standing still while I desperately tried to get back in. I had to Ctrl+alt+del and end process to close GW then restart it.

This is on top of random latency spikes that have been happening, not too often but enough to be really annoying. I also noticed some pvp streamers (I stopped playing after the first lag spike for a bit and watched Caith) were lagging too, so much so that Caith from the Abjured had to stop playing, so maybe something with the NA servers?

Any idea what the minimizing issue could be about? I know server stability isnt exactly a quick fix but I’m sure this other issue has happened to someone else.

Solo Q Shatter Build

Make sure you’re using Generosity Sigil on your S/T set and be ready to BF as soon as they burst those burns on you, you will almost guarantee a proc and avoid stack for a bit, and if you wanna try Illusions instead of Chaos you can grab The Prestige which gives you some condi cleanse on torch skills, while allowing you to use it more. Then you can grab might on shatter and the shatter trait at the end to buff your…well shatters. This build will take some more brain power cause you wont have PU backup, but lower CD shatters + condi cleanse + AoE int and reflect on distort are all pretty nice. This is essentially old mesmer spec, with some benefits.

Honestly, stealth is a bit too powerful right now so its hard to put down PU, but this is what mesmer players would be using if stealth got nerfed suddenly. Also, with Chrono incoming it could benefit you to get away from the new PU shatter build, cause thats what is most likely going to be dropped for our new elite spec. As someone who has played this, being used to the new stealth timers was detrimental till I got back into the shorter duration stealth.

Yeah I would second that zerging is not really mesmer’s place to shine, I run power shatter with mine but thats cause we have a seperate party for ganking and stealth in our guild for backcapping towers and portal plays that plays off to the side of the main (we have 2 thieves, myself, 1 engi and 1 trapper ranger). If you are in the main zerg fights you are there for veil and port openings but thats less used these days with the mainly ranged zerg fights.

however and this is pretty big, when chronomancer comes out I have a feelings mesmers are gonna be loved by zergs again, the wells all seem strong (aoe unblockable attacks, stability, slows, cc’s) and doing things like double Time Warp and portals will allow for some really crazy in-fight situations. I’m seriously thinking of making some tanky gear for my mes next expac so I can run with the zerg better cause theres gonna be plenty for you to do with the new spec. So if you wanna start leveling a mes now, know that in the expansion things are looking good in wvw for mes

Yeah I really like the idea of picking a side to choose from, and maybe each team could have some advantages and disadvantages, like say red team can have more overall members but seige takes more supply, or maybe blue gets a bonus for holding all the towers near water and stuff. These are just dumb examples but I’m sure A-net could come up with some cool stuff.

WvW as a whole could be given more incentive, maybe it would have its own story that you work through as you rank up and take objectives, nothing too extreme but something a bit more enticing than “We’re all fighting in the mists, come join!” Hell, you could even just have the mist be an extension of the current story, each Order is practicing in order to better take down the dragons and you choose which one to fight for (maybe make this separate from the storyline so guilds can stay together)

Fun events thrown in would be great, 1 thing I love about my Guild is our main officer comes up with weird events all the time, just last night we ran the iRobot event (his idea) where all players other than the mesmers were stuck at walking speed, so we had to coordinate portals well and move from tower to tower together. Was a lot of fun, and made me think that if everyone followed these rules for a night, or a few days it would break up the blobbing and general tedium. =

Which class is most faceroll?

This is almost %100 just me being bad at warrior, but when I play warr I tend to faceroll a bit, and surprisingly down people pretty quick. I need to not use all the stances at once, (a bad habit for new warrs) just dont have the mechanical part of playing it down tbh, I main mesmer and engi which use their f1-f5 skills a lot.

Engi is definitely the least faceroll class, so many options and abilities to use and the timing required makes it really fun. My only complaint about engi is the kitten bugs with a lot of their CC (MAGNET) that can really throw you off, honestly need to play my engi more (been playing ele lately). It was kinda funny for awhile when 100k nades was around and everyone tried engi for the lol1shot nonsense, but quickly realized they couldnt play the class outside of that.

I voted TCG cause I’d like to see some nice Mesmer plays and see what build ends up being used by Helseth. I have a feeling Abjured are looking for revenge though, I wouldn’t count them out, though it depends on if everyone is playing their main class (did Caith switch to ele or is he still maurader engi? what about Phanta?) I guess we’ll have to see what happens. R O M seemed a little too confident.

Hell not only that but just let us queue while outside of HotM in general, god kitten I hate HotM now, I’ve never been stuck in 1 small pointless area for longer in any MMO, but I love the pvp so I have no choice

Seriously A-net, the whole “You might get a queue pop on a loading screen” excuse is not a good enough reason, sure maybe 1-2% of the time you might have 1 guy drop out and it will suck, but the ability to do ANYTHING other than hop around HotM and smack golems while waiting vastly outweighs this issue. Add to your list OP cause this needs to change, and you’ve got some good stuff here!

Yeah honestly it was kinda needed. Been playin’ MtD most of the day and it was really strong. I would melt thieves in seconds with 1 scepter block+ a few clone shatters (all the while blinding him faster than he could spam 2 :P ) and even the most condi-cleanse heavy classes like guard and ele couldnt keep up (never saw a shoutbow warr tho, are they extinct now?).

After having played around with the nerfed MtD it’s not such a terrible nerf that its unplayable, its actually still an excellent small skirmish/dueling build. I still believe MtD will never be high end competitive material (especially with how rapidly its getting nerfed lol) but as a solo q build its much better than it ever was.

The biggest problem with playing this build? People attitudes. Every. Single. Person. I 1v1’d and beat raged hard. Even in good fights that weren’t 1 sided, people just hate getting beat by this build. Idk, maybe its more sneaky? You spend most of the time blocking and evading people while they mess themselves up, and the constant blinds were a huge point of contrition.

I even had a good 1v1 vs. a GS medi guard (standard hardcounter to mes imo, more so than thief in some cases) and after a long fight he runs out of CDs and goes down and immediately says “Wow MSEMER IS BROKEN, LOL SCRUBCLASS”…and then later on I beat him again after he chased me around during a teamfight (instead of assisting his mates) and he goes LOL HOW DO U HAVE AEGIS? I was like thats not even a new thing…its PU and scpeter 2…and he continues to flame mesmer and all the buffs it got…

and this was after the mtd nerf lol

I think other classes just hate mesmers, its the plain truth. If we are strong in any capacity its like an affront to them. I don’t understand it…

You also have to keep in mind that while buffing yourself w/ 12 stacks of might before a fight might seem really strong, you have to choose that trait over 15%-30% shatter damage, or Power Block which is proving to be a really powerful trait. I have a feeling the out of combat might stacking will get removed shortly, so don’t worry too much about it, cause that doesn’t seem intended (GS auto attacking without a target looks dumb anyway, if this became the meta thing to do I’d be kittened :P )

Yeah the mantra cleanse is pretty good, probably our best condi cleanse without traits.

Nullfield is nice if you can stand in it for the duration, and if you can get your enemy in it it also boon strips.

Arcane Thievery works similarly, you can use it to cure 3 of your condi’s and strip 3 of their boons, but the CD is kinda high even with the CD reduction, so while it can be very powerful you won’t have the sustained condi clear that is needed now. All of these coupled with the Inspiration minor cleanse on heal can help counter some of these ridiculous condi builds running around now in WvW and spvp.

If you like the Torch offhand theres a nice trait in Illusions adept that cleanses whenever you use a torch skill, and reduces the cd of those skills when you are stealthed, I’ve been running that on my mes in spvp and it actually helps more than I originally thought it would.

Yeah everyone says thieves are our counter as zerk shatter, but at least with them there’s a good chance you’ll win if you play your cards right and interrupt them at the right time.

Medi guard (GS variants especially) are just impossible if they spread out their CDs and dont waste them all immediately (admittedly there are plenty who do this). It’s just an uphill battle the whole time, with so many ways for them to counter shatter or lock you down. They may not be able to kill you as suddenly as thieves during a prolonged fight, but you will lose eventually just due to them having more tools.

Also Condi rangers who spam evades all day and use the pet immob into elite can really mess you up if you dont have a way out (we usually don’t).

I see the thief as a class that actually improves competitive matches by a lot…people have to pay attention and actually have map awareness in conquest with a class like the thief. Without thief there would be WAY less risk to bringing a high damage zerker settup like mes, power necro and rangers…which would make THOSE classes OP. As it stands the thief makes people think twice about just running zerk, and they have to pay attention to their survival tools and positioning to ensure they don’t get caught out at a bad time. It’s a class that people have to think about dealing with…which may be too difficult for some. I’d understand wanting the game to be easier sometimes but that dosen’t help competitive play.

Also claiming that there are NO counterplays to stealth is just hyperbolic and dumb, massive AoE spam that most meta classes have access to can kill a thief or force him to reset easily if you pay attention to where they are moving. A good thief will make this harder, but again you need to use your BRAIN to learn what they are doing and stop them (ever try just waiting till you know they need to attack or get destealthed then aoe bombing yourself? Necro engie ele guard warr etc..). There is even reveal, which only a few classes have access to but that is LITERALLY a stealth counterplay mechanic.

For a little perspective, my main is a shatter mesmer, the class that thieves compete w/ for team space and role the most, and 1 that hard counters a mes when they +1 on them (which is pretty much their job in a team environment besides roaming and decapping). I’ve been killed by bad thieves, and I’ve killed good ones, positioning and CD management is the key here and a mesmer can kill them 1v1. I’d say I have an easier time on both my necro and my ranger than my mes, and even on my mes I see it as a hazard to being otherwise a really strong zerker burst class with high mobility and team utility. Everything needs a balance, and thieves help that so much. Would you prefer 5v5 all cele + bunker classes that teamfight all game or people actually use strategy and movement to make conquest more exciting?

It is waaaaay too early to call stuff like this, zerker hammer engie could be meta for all we know, there’s still plenty of specs yet to be revealed and figuring out how they work together will take at least a good month of practice and testing when we can play them.

I admit I was highly skeptical of this builds validity, but after trying it out myself for a bit… it’s kitten fun :P

I’ve tried SD specs before but never with the Goggles, and I usually use the ram but I tried it your way with the rifle turret. Having those 2 sources of SD burst instantly on short CDs really brings the pain and gives this build the edge I was looking for with a zerker engie. Thieves get crushed before they even realize what happened…though I’m wondering if the success I’ve had running this is mostly because people don’t expect it, even your typical SD builds dosn’t pack this much punch.

This build definitely keeps you on your toes, I’m used to having escape tools like slick shoes super speed and its hard to play without vigor. I tried using blind on rifle crit over the 10% damage and found that helpful, I also ran Power Wrench over gadgeteer, mostly cause I haven’t even unlocked that skill yet lol. The CDR on block alone is really nice, though I will probably try with gadgeteer eventually cause theres no reliable way to get might otherwise. I can tell from your vid that it does make a difference on those opening bursts.

Weird bug w/ dye UI

Noticed this as of the 5/19/2015 patch, when you go to dye your armor and hit ‘apply’ it takes the last dye chosen and makes all your armor that color…but only in the dye UI. The dyes still look normal outside of the UI but it makes playing around with colors annoying.

Not the most important bug but I figured I’d post, the only way to change it is to relog but it does the same thing as soon as you ‘apply’ any dyes.

Yeah just tested this again after seeing a small patch get loaded, but it’s still revealing you even out of combat without hitting anything after about 4 seconds. Very important fix a-net! Don’t wanna play either of my mains (thief and mes) right now :\

Wait why would you need to get in front of it to get the buff when the skill bounces back in your direction once it hits the target? Unless I am completely misunderstanding the skill you send it out in front of you, it hits its target then bounces back and always goes towards where you are when it bounces, with the benefits being given if you catch it on the way back…

So in melee you would get the benefits almost instantly because it would hit the target then return to you. I dont know where you’re getting the idea that you have to iLeap in order to get it, that’s just a handy way of changing its direction (ileap always attempts to put clone behind so if you swap before the wave hits it will then continue through to hit you behind the target). From what I understand you can only gain the CDR and buffs once, cause otherwise you could catch 3-4 times with good movement and that would be a little OP.

Yea I definitely agree that something has to be done, my server Ehmry Bay has like 0 EU presence and its really obvious when I have time off and I log on during the middle of the day and I’m the only person in EBG. Our major guilds all play around the same times, around 5-9 EST and we usually kick kitten during that time, but during the day nothing happens and the other servers tend to gain a large lead even if we do well during peak hours. People see this happen and get discouraged which only compounds the problem. The last matchup we had against I was on my mes and ended up dueling an enemy mes for like 45+ min because I was the only person in EBG on my server and his group was bored after having capped everything without anyone to fight :\

I don’t know how A-net can fix this, separating servers by region would skew the populations way too much, and your idea of giving less points on off-peak hours would be too hard to properly do without it feeling cheap when you finally do get good fights during the day. It’s a problem we really need to work out though as it really hampers WvW for some servers (I used mine as an example but I’m sure there are plenty that have this problem).

As someone who plays engi and thief I can say that magnet pull messes up constantly as well, pulls in this game seem to desync more than other movement-affecting stuff like knockbacks. It sux but it’s just something we all have to deal with :\

Yeah I’m pretty sure theives you’re seeing in turnies are not using 2/6/0/06 but 6/0/2/0/6 Panic Strike build with condi cleanse on stealth, it plays well into the thieves’ role as a burst initiator, coordinating with your group to take down an important target, with the immob below 50% health usually sealing the deal when theres 3+ people on the target. Usually run w/ a mes, and a medi guard, tho 3 of any zerker comp w/ the PS thief can wreak havoc, stealthing up using BP to gain that initial surprise. Once the team has the advantage the thief can then disengage and fulfill the decap/harass role that S/D does so well, this is the one area where S/D might have a slight advantage but its less important than it used to be.

TL;DR: PS and group stealth make D/P thieves very valuable in team fights in the current meta, moreso than S/D which is more selfish and tanky.
