If scarlet was successfully caught during the Queen’s Jubilee, i think people would have liked Scarlet better.
Then maybe 6~10months later, another villain could aid in her escape from the prison and players would likely be less kitten ed off at seeing her again.

Just like Mad King thorn,the main reason we are not sick and tired of the mad king is because we have 11~12 months of break from him.If we keep seeing the mad king for a few months of LS,i’m sure he will be the 2nd scarlet.

I would of liked her if she actually got something done and made herself out to be an actual threat instead of a party crasher.

Hatred for Scarlet has gone global.

I feel bad this will haunt Angel McCoy wherever she goes.

We don’t hate her(at least I don’t) that would give Anet the idea that they actually crafted a good villian that people love to hate. No we are annoyed by her presence and it’s dragging the entire performance of the living story down to the point were we can’t enjoy story content in the game.

What dislike towards scarlet? ya my dislike turned into a non caring attitude a long time ago. She just doesn’t impact me emotionally with anything she does or has done. She killed or left everyone she met in her short story yet acts like a clown that won’t leave you alone in the game. I guess an I don’t care about scarlet thread wouldn’t really make sense though.

Well what do you expect she will be here till we see her die. Would be nice if for once she showed the same brutality and insanity she showed towards her instructor in the living story.

Within seconds of exiting his machine she starts to kill him as she talks down to him about the knowledge she has gained. Why has she yet to show any of that in game torture, killing, and insanity should all be shown not just insanity like it’s now in game. She is a clown at the moment without the other two just dancing and prancing trying to make jokes and seem menacing with empty threats. I’d like her to go on a massacre(Not her army either Scarlet she do it herself as she has the power to teleport which should make it easy) or eliminate a major ally so that we the player can actually hate her for a reason instead of how it’s at the moment not even caring about her actions.

Sure Mags could beat us. But they can’t do it by talking about it. As stated above Mags has NEVER finished ahead of SoS in ANY matchup since the game started. I am looking forward to the time when that happens.

To be clear I doubt anyone in Mag gives a crap about beating SoS. Your NA is boring to fight against, that is pretty much all that matters.

Ya as a NA SoS player WvW is incredibly boring if i do anything outside of roaming. Most players/commanders I have tried running under are doing the same thing I saw them doing 3-5 months ago when i took a break from gw2. Guilds also seem to form clicks on this server so the overall server working together doesn’t really happen to often(it does and we use our TS sometimes but their is a lot hate out there). Who knows though we have gotten some new NA guilds in the past few weeks and they do have some fun players to roam with.

Woulda been cool if their was some mini puzzle/scavenger hunt like last year to figure out what’s going on under there. Kinda sucks that all we get from these npcs is a little dialogue would love Anet to start adding puzzles and relics around the world to allow us to dive into more of the lore.(similar to the Rift Puzzles/artifacts)

Ya the candy corn items are super grindy but that has been something Anet seem to do with lots of their updates. Kinda disappointed with this update they seem to have less here than last year which imo doesn’t make sense when they stated they would be able to flesh these events out more each time they come around. Maybe it’s because this holiday has a story but no scavanger hunt(or something that would provide as much gameplay), The labyrinth doesn’t have anything cool about is just nothing but a zerg farm(champs have way to much hp as well spending 10+ minutes on each champ is dumb), less new skins than last year(not including last year’s armor skins and none of the old ones have returned to my knowledge.)

I’m just kinda disappointed with this update It feels like less than last year and that was one of my favorite updates. Hopefully the last dungeon is way better than the first but I guess this teaches me not to get excited for gw2 updates even the ones i had fun with the year before.

Really drawn out and overly praising some aspects of the game was weird to me at least. Doesn’t feel like a casual post i guess is what im saying feels like a PR post. Either way understood and I agree even though i know sometimes im a part of this problem. It’s just not cool seeing a game you enjoy go in a direction you don’t.

I’ve always felt ArenaNet’s participation both in-forum and in-game was leagues better than that of any other game company I have seen.

That being said, would you please stop posting things exclusively to stupid social media sites and actually add them to your official site or forums as well?

Can’t agree with that first statement Rift’s Dev team is way more interactive with their community than Anet and they are a lot better on streams as well. Planetside 2’s( SOE in general atm is doing well with communication) team is way more communicative with their community letting them vote in and weigh in on the development of the game. Countless other non mmo devs are all over there forums and reddit pages.

With anet we get a post here a stream every once in a while with nothing really hinted or talked about that would get me as a player excited. Communication is actually one of the things i think Anet needs to work on the most.

-Black Lion Ticket scraps when you need multiple tickets and they have a terrible drop rate
-Non customizable UI(terrible decision imo especially with worthless screen clutter like personal story/living story updates)
-Living story characters besides hobo/job-o tron he actually made me laugh rest I just don’t care to pay attention to
-Cutt throat politics were terribly done with terribly unbalanced rewards. The short story for Evon should of been an in game cutscene and Kiel should of had a similar cutscene.
-No new full armor sets for the different armor types from the living story that are not in the gem store
-SAB just not for me
-Camera still needs lots of work
-Friend still has audio bug that prevents him from playing
-WvW has no gem store love
-None of the new or past dungeons added by the living story have given me something cool from a boss/mob drop just greens and blues and maybe a rare seems like a pretty lackluster reward system
-Temp Content makes devs work seem worthless
-The 2 week acheive rush and move on to next update mind set of the community instead of giving players lasting quality content to do for an extend period of time for the content itself instead of the achievements
-Lackluster WvW support and constant backwards mindest of WvW Dev team(orbs favor winning server lets bring the buff back, Wxp/rank not account bound, no commander changes, see WvW forum/other forums for more)
-Barely touching commander tags
-Tequatly being designed like a raid boss when it’s an open world boss and providing no proper way to find your own instance to actually do it with a guild/organized group. Also not scaling properly with smaller groups and having no system in place to degrade its difficulty when a fail happens to give the next attempt a better chance at completion to prevent people just leaving and never coming back.
-Difficulty in GW2 being a lot of about 1 shot mechanics and huge random spikes in difficulty instead of a steady climb and mechanics that are more obvious to the player and less about 1 shotting on the first actual sight of the mechanic
-Jumping puzzles offer nothing unique for first time completion like a mini or something to remember the puzzle by and to get a bigger feeling of accomplishment.
-Removing content to put more in just means your getting rid of something your team worked kitten to put something over it pretty much the same as temporary content and makes no sense to me.
-Non Alt friendly design
-Skill lag
-Lack of Map expansion although the game still needs lots of work so maybe that’s a good thing
-The lack of Love for Engineers when it comes to back pieces and legendaries be cool if our turrets were different depending on our race as well but you know just a random dream of mine.
-No Dark/Creepy legendaries
-Grind
-no reward for successful dodges(maybe half my used endurance returned)

Ya the ai is pretty bad but i wouldn’t mind a single hero that you can run around with. Would be cool if he had special dialogue and some level of customization would make exploring the world a little better for me as a player.

Also the minis fighting mobs with you was awesome as well hope they end up doing that.

Not sure why you would have ever been against double teaming. The whole point of three way battles is to have impromptu and planned double teaming, it helps balance.

The stigma against double teaming is counter productive and a lot of matches would be a lot more interesting if folks accepted this. No extra infrastructure needed, just need players to grow a clue.

My problem with double teaming was that the alliance often formed was between the 1st server and the 2nd server in order to crush the 3rd server off the map. An in-game infrastructure for alliances would prevent that.

Could make commanders become treaty holders or make it so an NPC is a treaty holder. Once killed the 1 server who is getting double teamed must destroy the treaty(could make it so they have to destroy both sides treaties as well) thus ending the alliance and forcing these two servers back into a brawl and turning their split captures into free game for anybody to recap. Then make it so once a server enters an alliance and it gets broken it cannot be submitted again for another day or two.

They designed the 1v1v1 so if a server is just dominating 2 could join forces and help each other push back this dominating force but they produced no systems to allow this to be done in-game so the entire server may participate.

Outmanned buff

I’ve wanted outmanned and orb buff to be switched since launch so smaller servers or servers with no presence during other server high pop times have a fighting chance if they actually work together. Yet Anet thinks that it’s unfair to give the losing side a slight advantage but the winning side can have as many as they can carry and Anet won’t care.

Still don’t get why you wouldn’t make it so bloodlust adds magic find/exp/gold while providing the point tick for kills. Seems way better than giving bloodlust actual stat buffs making it so zergs flock to them instead of letting roamers/small teams deal with them.

Ya SoS is dead as well but this isn’t a well designed open world boss it would be a well designed instanced encounter if they decided to put it in and instanced area.

Love the boss but an open world boss shouldn’t be designed to fail over and over and over it should be designed with a high success rate while still using mechanics to keep people awake and active instead of spamming 1. I would prefer them to add some kind of instanced area we can enter as a guild/group to do this or make it so failures reduce the difficulty so newer players can still have fun and learn the fight and veterans can come back and get the difficult fight they enjoy.

I don’t even care about her she is a character that doesn’t even deserve my attention same goes for Kiel or Keil however you spell it idc to look it up.

I enjoyed the terrible written Evon Gnashblade during the election far more than any other character I have met outside of the mad king and jobo tron/hobo tron.

I’m pretty tired of Anet’s Story(living lol what a huge joke their is nothing living about this story)

Everytime an update comes I look at it say meh looks alright and are already hoping that the next update is far better but I end up just giving it the same reaction as the last update. A year later I’m wondering if I’ll ever see an update that makes me go “wow that’s cool”.

I'd like to beat Tequatl. At least once.

Still trying and have yet to complete it want that mini and i enjoy the challenge but IMO this is not how you do open world content. This is something that should be instanced(this feels like a raid boss not an open world boss) open world encounters that are on a spawn timer needs to be at a difficulty level that is completable by a bunch of randoms gathering together not 100% of the time but a good amount of the time. I wouldn’t mind them putting this harder tequatl in and instanced area so guilds could try him out on their own later but reducing the difficulty for the actual open world encounter.

They could also make it so a fail reduces the difficulty of the next spawn until he dies then he goes back to normal difficulty.

I’d really like to at least see him drop below 75% personally but SoS has yet to even get him past 80% in the encounters ive done and i try to do it at least 2 times a day if my schedule lets me. I don’t even have fun with the encounter anymore as the challenge isn’t even their for me personally I know all the mechanics and i can dps constantly while avoiding everything while also moving back to turrets when mobs get to high in numbers to help turrets.

I even try the taxi into overflow way and everytime i get waiting for a spot as i spam join players. Just kinda sick of this I really want to complete this and try and get the one mini in the entire game i actually want but due to the fact that randoms cant complete this I have yet to even see a chest.

I keep trying but i have yet to see him drop below 80% on sea of sorrows. Plus with the overflows and the lack of people most of the time i barely ever get a chance to do it. I keep trying it but I doubt I’ll ever see it completed.

Living Story: I think it's time to reevaluate

As a person who plays this game for fun and not for the acheives or amazing loot I have only had fun with a small amount of the content in the living story updates. The 2 dungeons they added earlier this year were really fun, so was southsun survival, and the gauntlet but after thinking really long(lol it blocked H a….r d) on what i have enjoyed in the past year that’s it. I have also yet to see or play anything that has made me talk to my friends and say “this is something you will enjoy” it’s always “it has some good in it but I don’t like X, Y, and Z”. Would just like them to take it slow with the next living story updates work on actual content not filler. Work on making dynamic events meaningful(actually chain over extended periods of time having the player watch the world slowly change as they get involved something that should be done to dynamic events around the world at least the big ones)and give meaning to success and failures. I have never felt that gw2’s world has been alive(i personally feel dynamic events are just looping quests) even with the addition of the living story. The living story just feels like a cartoon having some episodes branch and go together but most of the time after each update the world is ok and nobody really cares that something crazy just happened out there that would shake the entire foundation of the world around them.

Seriously what happened to that dragon invasion in the open world during the beta weekend THAT was fun. They need to start doing more things like that and if the entire zone does get taken over then i think their should be something big that happens to that zone. Not what happens with scarlet “O you failed well we didn’t even realize this zone was under attack o well the zone looks fine to me”.

Also as a huge WvW fan the living story has left me out for a long time and Anet themselves have yet to realize the potential WvW has and the profit they could make from it with skins alone. Things that I thought would happen at least a year later. This just kinda makes me think Anet doesn’t either have a lot of time to focus on these things or the majority of their resources are going towards temporary content I enjoy very little.(when i say potential btw i mean things that change up how WvW as a whole is played like the upcoming BL change not changes that enforce the current way WvW is played like WvW abilities I’d actually prefer to not get so many of these for a while as they focus on the meat of WvW and balancing these abilities)

I don’t care about ascended and never will I come to this game to try and have fun if im not having fun i log off. Grinding ascended gear is not fun so i will not be getting anything that’s ascended unless this changes same goes for legendaries and precursors.

You don’t need bigger, harder hitting, larger health pooled bosses to have a challenging encounter you need good mechanics that make players think and move while also fighting a boss that isn’t a crazy damage sponge but also doesn’t drop in less than a minute. While i don’t like mentioning other mmos on mmo forums and ff14’s launch has been awful their dungeons/primals are some of the best mechanic wise encounters i have had the pleasure of taking part in. I think Anet should look at a few of the 30+ dungeons/primals/guildhests in ff14 along with other mmos with bosses known to have great mechanics. If anet can produce future content with great mechanics, like past content has shown they can(gauntlet, flame and frost dungeon), I doubt we will ever see a need for ascended gear in PvE. Although their will always be the group of people who want the maximum amount of stats out of their gear and if they want that so the game feels easier to them then so be it their loss or gain however you see it.

kitten i can find myself having more fun facing a boss naked at lvl 5 in dark souls than when im running around in super powerful gear at a good level and that’s because of good mechanics.

No I come back for permanent content that was added not the temporary living story that I feel falls short with every update story wise especially this last update were the story was supposed to come together(it’s the main reason why i haven’t cared about it as well every story/update is lacking or badly put together). The good thing is i have really low standards for these updates nowadays so even the little things i want make me happy like the new wvw change been waiting a year for something like that.

Idk maybe they feel accomplished when they succed but all i know is farming is worthless. Even farmers wont care about what they farmed given a few minutes, days, weeks, w/e they will eventually stop caring and move to the next mmo/farm and farm that. While some people actually enjoy these invasion they like running around and trying to succeed. To me farmers are just ruining that experience to fuel their own which can be done in many different parts of this game and other games without ruining someone else’s experience. Fun>farm for me so i always support those who like to have fun purely from just playing the game not farming worthless items even a farmer doesn’t care about.

It also seems that most people who want to complete the event are on limited time schedules due to RL. Were most farmers have no limited time schedule some have jobs, school, etc but most seem to have tons of free time available to them to farm so they are also wasting peoples time who actually have a limited amount of it.

You missed the point.

Naw i think you or Anet(I think you worded to say that Anet intends it to be non PvP) is over complicating the meaning of PvP which is player vs players. So if players are vs players in any form it’s PvP. You can name it something different to make it a special type of PvP but it’s and always will be PvP unless we start fighting nothing but non player controlled enemies.

Wonder why we haven’t heard a single thing about her before now.

So, people shout about how this should be in-game.
HOW would this be in-game?
The only one that could tell us all this would be Scarlet (if she even can due to the experiment) and I have rather major doubts she would tell us.

You know the cutscene with Lord Faren they could just make scenes like that that change as a story gets told to the player. We could of traveled all around the world to each one of her mentors learning a different part of her story. Would get us to travel around meet new characters and provide the actual story of the living story.

Thanks devon it’s nice to see this forum become more active by a dev in the past month or two. Really hope WvW gets the changes it needs over the next couple months or year and having you present here often helps us with that.

I do hope we as a community and you as a dev team can have some more discussion on were we as a whole want wvw to go in the future though.

I wanted to chime in a bit here. We appreciate that people really enjoy organizing their own combat in WvW and we are very aware of it. We’ve been discussing what can be done about that. However, WvW is its own game type and it requires attention specific to it. We are focused on making WvW as fun as it can possibly be and we will continue to make changes to WvW with that in mind. Our decisions regarding WvW will always have the needs of WvW paramount.

2) The PPT game, at present, is flawed deeply in that the present matchup system makes it largely irrelevant. Players want more variety, yes, but they want a challenge that they feel is possible to succeed in as well. Yes, people care about their “ratings,” but they care about the ability to win the week a lot more. Most matchups are decided before the first fight every happens. :-/ I think the change to the matchup system ranks up there with making server transfers no longer free as the single most damaging thing to WvW that’s occured thusfar.

Isn’t EU not having to much trouble with this? Shouldn’t we as a community work on spreading out our numbers across all servers to even out the matches ups in WvW?

I know that will be hard due to the gem requirement for transfer(and not knowing server or wvw numbers) but the whole un even match up thing needs to be resolved by the community and the devs not just one or the other.

Their also needs to be ways for the servers to communicate so if 2 smaller servers are getting owned they can get together and push the big dog out of their yard.

Well it’s a start but after a year i was expecting some more beef. Still good to see something Major that will change up how WvW is played. I imagine fighting in this arena area in WvW will be pretty fun. Those little entrances seem like a good way to hide a entire zerg. Would be cool to see some siege concept art just to see what they are brainstorming up.

I’d like to see them putting some siege, tower, and other WvW skins into the gem store or something as well though. They could take assets from the races in game to reduce development time and then later on they could come up with more unique designs. Just want to show Anet that I’d rather support WvW over PvE and Spvp.

Yes please do this Anet please! Once I heard about this my interest in Minis shot up idc if they do no damage having them fight with me just feels awesome. It would allow me to create a companionship with my mini and actually bring them out.

Minis need a major overhaul(deposit all collectibles depositing the minis i like to have out making me go back to the bank to get them….)but having this would be a great start

They’d need to add an arena or something.

It could be fun, but in the open world it would just slow everyone’s computer down.

Make an option in the menu that has it so you don’t see minis and/or make it so minis auto despawn when large groups of people get together.

So what are these groups doing and why aren’t they involved in the living story?

I joined them during the personal story and while way to short it contained most of the good parts of the personal story if you consider their to be any. It’s just kinda weird that they have very little to no involvement in what’s going on with the world. Same could be said for the dragons as well.

I just kinda thought we might get missions from these groups every couple of living stories to help explain what’s going on.

- Some Seige is now movable
- New Seige has been added
-Moble dolyaks that follow commanders have been added can only have a max of 200 supply being moble out in the world at a time so commanders will have to either split or focus all supply around 1 commander
-Siege, tower, and banner skins are now available in the gem store
-We have added and/or Changed up maps in WvW
-Outmanned buff now increases stats(current state doesn’t make sense as an outmanned server isn’t gonna be able to “farm” as much as the server who is dominating them so the outmanned buff needs to try and give these players a slight advantage not better farming)
-Getting finished by a player now teleports you back to the spawn in WvW(I wouldn’t mind a player dying forcing them back as well just tired of people sitting on the ground and a few deaths being meaningless to a zerg)
-Dolyaks no longer go up to keeps and/or towers that you do not own.
-The commander system has been overhauled now allowing commanders to change their symbol, color, and have a full raid ui for managing their squads. We have also added a commander only chat and a Squad leader chat so commanders may communicate with their server and squad leaders easier.
- You can now see the location of all friendly units on the map
-The sub races have been overhauled now they have an upgrade tree like the rest of WvW and have multiple ways of being taken over. You can also help them fortify their location to increase the amount of support they send out onto the field.
-Wxp and Ranks are now Account bound
-No more loot bags unless your bags are full
-Removal of combat speed
-When destroyed Siege now drops items players can use to bash their enemies faces in(planks, peices of metal, etc)These items despawn within 1 minute of the spawning.
-Winning WvW now nets your server with a Chest that only drops rare+ items. Only people who participated in WvW that week may get this chest.
-AoE cap is mostly gone although some skills still are affected by it(like mass invis a skill that should revolve around small group play)

Devon is great he just suffers from that Anet Dev syndrome so even though he talks to us a lot we never really get much info(recently has been the biggest amount of info i have seen from a dev on WvW). Always saying soon, changes are coming, look forward to this, we can’t talk about that, etc just never really delving into what they want to do, why they want to do it(or did something in the past), and where they might go. Getting involved with their community is something Anet needs to do better in the future(I know internet=kittens but the more you communicate with your fans the bigger chance they have of being a lot nicer and explaining their problems to you especially if they see change come from it).

The main issue with the WvW community is we have suggested so much over the past year and gotten nothing but a big grind that doesn’t change up how WvW works in anyway.

I have played alot of other games, where Devs don’t talk to you at all. While I know its their job to do the things they do, there are always people in every job that go above and beyond.

For all its warts, Rift (which I played for almost 18 months) was WAY more responsive to its player base on the forums than ANet has been. The devs would give candid replies to most questions/complaints, they actually gave timetables for fixes, and they often just plain admitted when they screwed up. There is no reason on this earth that ANet couldn’t do the same … except for maybe that the Trion devs actually played and understood their own game.

In anticipation of the inevitable query from lordkrall/Vena/VOLKON/etc, I switched to GW2 because Conquest in Rift was a TERRIBLE implementation of open world strategy-based PvP. WvW in GW2 promised to be so much more, and in many respects even is … just way less than it could and should have been.

Ya the rift devs are some of the best mmo devs i have ever seen they do a really good job with getting involved in their community.

Well she has a portal device to get away so that would explain how she gets away everytime(although not the invulnerability). Besides that i agree with everything you have stated and i do hope im just missing story content.

It would of been nice to go more in depth with what is going on and how all these groups got together. Although I don’t think scarlet is the brains of this operations and that might explain why we know nothing about what’s going on because scarlet herself is probably their to just cause havoc and mayhem not show you why these things are happening(maybe to distract us from something else).

World Exploration: Achievement or Chore?

I enjoy exploring the world but not doing world completion. I think that’s why it’s called world completion though as you have to do all those heart quests on top of exploring every corner of Tyria. I actually like exploring but most of the hearts feel really similar thus boring to do over and over so i normally just do special ones then continue out into the world.

kitten well I guess no more running around on anything but my Engi in WvW unless im leveling. Wanted to level an asuran engi after i was done with my 8th 80 for a second wvw spec but that seems worthless now(and asuran’s cultural make the best engi suit).

Hopefully his changes will make WvW feel better for players who have lots of alts. While i do just try to have fun with guildies when in WvW(as WvW itself has felt boring for months now without some friends to run around with but that’s due to the lack of core changes) i do feel discouraged to retry my alts with different specs/gear that don’t perform as well as others due to the Wxp system. It just feels like a waste when it takes so much to get threw a level and their are so many.

I honestly wouldn’t see a major difference I don’t go out of my way for loot that much, What i do spend most of my time doing is just running around doing random stuff be it hearts, helping guildies, puzzles, mini dungeons, WvW, or wherever i might end up. Most days i just run off in a direction doing w/e enjoying my time and only ever stopping if a guildy or someone asks for help. Loot going away would probably kill the game tons of people but to me not so much as i play the game for the experience the world gives me.

Gauntlet was a great example i do that because it’s fun and kept doing it because of that. Liara was actually the first thing in gw2 that i did over and over because i found it to be challenging although I would stop every once in a while as things got annoying. I don’t even collect minis so that mini I got is in my bank and when i do have a mini it comes out to be a cool little guy to travel with.

The balloon and the torch are the only thing in a while i went out of my way to get loot wise. It’s fun exploring the world with a red balloon at your side and caves with a torch well do i need to explain.

Sorry, but regardless of whether you play mmorpg or any other video game, there is always a goal to reach … or there is no fun or sense of accomplishment. My hubby loves his xbox. He plays all the games he likes to unlock ACHIEVEMENTS. You might play a game for a few hours without some type of reward, but i dont’t think you would play for 500 hours. I love GW2, but part of what i like is having the chance for loot and achievements.

What? you or anyone you know has never played a game purely because they just want to have some fun? I have over 1000s hours in demon souls because i like that game and when i go to play it i do it because it’s fun i don’t even really think about it i just play the game(i don’t have even know how many trophies i have for it). Same goes for dark souls, guild wars 2, and many other games out there. I play them because of the enjoyment i receive i don’t go in there looking for a specific task to do because i know i will enjoy my time regardless. I guess fun is my goal but i never really have it in mind and it’s not like without achieves(which i don’t even go for) and loot the game would be boring as those aren’t in my head anyways they are just benefits to the tasks I am already going about completing. In fact if armor/weapons were just available to me and allowed me to select the outfit i most enjoyed i think i would enjoy the game more as i wouldn’t have to jump threw hoops to get the look i enjoy(i really like Arah cloth set have since launch but i don’t enjoy running Arah so i only have 120ish tokens). O well different folks different strokes.

I have 5 or so titles and i don’t ever display them. I used to when you could only see the titles when you selected the person. When they made the change to display them at all times i turned mine off and all nameplates off as they got in the way all the time especially in WvW.

I don’t mind them but i just don’t like them getting in the way of stuff and actually like the immersive feel of no nameplates in an mmo world especially in WvW as it feels a lot better having to actually look for the person and not their nameplate/title.

I have never actually thought a legendary was cool or interesting even at launch. I don’t find any of the legendaries as the better looking skins in the game and hold many other in game skins higher than the legendaries(aetherblade, jade, champ loot, mystic weapons, rox and brahams weapons, and more although i do still enjoy the look of some legendaries). I have felt this way since launch when no darker legendaries were available. Twilight isn’t dark either it has nothing to do wit horror it’s a cosmic weapon every time i look at it it feels like im looking into space.

Also i have no choice in legendaries either my main is an engi and their is no legendary that fits them. Quip shoots streamers which is stupid imo as anet already have the rainbow bow why would they make a rainbow gun and a rainbow staff. The rifle is a sniper and the engi doesn’t shoot the rifle like a sniper they shoot it from the hip and use cone/knockback/aoe abilities(and the big net that wouldn’t fit in a tiny barrel) which would be more like a shotgun/blunderbuss. The sheild also feels nothing like an engi shield to me it seems more like a gaurdian shield the new aetherblade shield is actually a great representation of what i think an engi shield would look like.

Then my friend picked up a precursor in WvW after being 80 for a week . Me and my other friends had been playing since launch and had about 6 times the amount of gametime as him yet none of us had ever seen a precursor. He quit a week after he got it sold it for full racial t3 and has not logged on since i have still been playing since then(was about 5 months ago)and still haven’t seen a precursor(i have actually not even gotten into the double digits with exotics earned straight threw drops/chests it’s been a few months since ive seen one to be honest).

The people who i know that have legendaries are the people who need acheivements, do nothing but farm, or have bought it threw RL in a days time with money either from family/friends or their own earnings. So all of these points i made combined have turned legendaries into something i used to acknowledge as someone working hard to a skin that was never actually legendary to begin with.

If they were i would of probably gotten one by now i have six 80s and I’ve always just played the game running around doing what i want to do that day be it WvW, PvE, or a little spvp. I have discovered tons of little puzzles and fun things to do around the world like the organ and the boss above the reactor. I have done every dungeon multiple times and have been to every corner of the available parts of tyria doing tons of events all over it. I have kneeled at shrines to receive random buffs, opened doors that require a quick puzzle or emote, have read tons of in game books all over tyria and many other things that most of my guildies don’t even know about(and some things that people would consider wrong like going into the unaccessible parts of zones/major cities). Yet the guy who only plays to do acheives, the guy who only players to farm, and the guy who barely plays but buys his way threw the game have all gotten a legendary while i haven’t even been able to get to a 250 stack of t6 mats yet.

All in all idc this is just here because this thread is talking about legendaries and i felt like adding my 2 cents into the mix. I still enjoy this game every time i log on in my own way and will continue to do so but I doubt any of the current legendaries will ever be a part of that.

Anet better not do 2 greatswords again though as they already make tons of them and it’s also a big canvas so it’s easier to make something cool out of it. Were I haven’t even seen a cool pistol most of them just look like smaller rifles(and so far no pistols have dropped out of the champ bags…).

TLDR version

no legendaries fit my engi, none of them look that great to me when compared to other skins, the way i have seen them earned is not legendary at all, and a person who spends a lot of their in game time doing tons of different things across all zones and game modes is really far away from 1 legendary were someone who farms the same thing all day till it gets nerfed has 3.

I give up. I don’t even. I don’t even so hard.

I don’t think people want rng minis i think people just want more choice in a mini(be it random or select from a group). It be like getting a pikachu gameboy for your birthday then going to school to find everyone else with a pikachu gameboy. Sure you could love pikachu but i bet not as much now and i bet a lot of the people out their with the pikachu gameboy only care about the gameboy part. So what’s their to care about when it’s a mini? and if you have no choice then how is it gonna feel special? Also you know it’s coming now instead of it being a surprise birthday present.

They should of actually done minis that involved the dragons and the personal story. The story that was present and being told a year ago when we created our characters. This way they could do 1 mini for each elder dragon maybe doing a champion or a corrupted minion. Then players would run around with something a little more special and it would be relevant after the queen jubilee is gone to non human races.

Free stuff is free so im not complaining about that but adding mystery and variety to this birthday present idea would of probably made players get more excited about it.

I think next year Anet should just state “We have a number of things for you to choose from when your characters birthday comes up again” instead of spelling out what we get ruining the surprise.

Most annoying feature of GW2

Well it’s that and the slow movement speed on top of it. MMos have always had combat speed(not sure why because if you slow both the npc and the player in combat than their is no reason to have the speed slow because they go from even ground to even ground, even the “we don’t want people running threw zones or away from all their fights” doesn’t make sense because the enemy can still run at your speed or slightly faster in and out of combat) The only reason i can think of having combat speed is because mobs have a leash on them(terrible feature that mmos have)making it so if players are moving to quickly they will just reset all the mobs before they can do anything.

either way ya the base speed of movement in this game feels kinda slow and only with swiftness do i feel like I’m moving at an ok pace. It would be nice to have a slight increase in movement speed although not required.

My biggest annoyance though is this game has invisible walls inside zones instead of just on the outside. Makes exploring feel even more confined than it already is due to zones. Mount maelstrom is the perfect example you can walk up one side but another has invisible walls blocking your progress down doesn’t make sense. Also the lack of visual knowledge of outside zones. When you go to zones that should allow you to look out to other ones off in the distance just to find a big wall or nothing out there. I can’t even look behind the CD door to see some form of a desert or across the lake near rata sum to see what’s on the other side it makes me feel like the world isn’t actually connected and this zone I’m in is in its own little universe.

Dynamic events also annoy me but im trying to do a lot of research on the dynamic events of gw2 and seeing how Anet can give them more meaning and make the players feel like they are impacting the world(in their current state people don’t really even notice the cause and effect of them). That’s a whole another thread of stuff though and I actually want to try covering them extensively if i ever do talk about them again.

AFAIK Colin already said we won’t be getting any new dragons/zones in 2013.

And another dev also reiterated to look to the skies.

So it’s pretty obvious that Divinity’s Reach is going to be invaded by Aetherblades and some real nasty kitten is gonna go down.

He never said no new zones. He said it was HIGHLY POSSIBLE that crystal desert would come so.. But yea, he said no new BIG dragons. But what about the small ones

But in all seriousness… 2 things i believe.

Ever wonder what happens to that loot bag you never got to or that twinkling body you forgot to loot? Well i do(in almost every mmo i play) and I have an idea involving the skritt that would allow players to get these lost rewards of Tyria.

The Skritt’s Shinies Market

Run by a family of skritt, that believe shinies should be traded with the world, this would allow players to buy back the loot that they and other adventurers have forgotten to pick up.

-The Skritt would travel all over the world between major cities, towns, and skritt encampments. There should be a representative in each major city so players can find the market wherever it might be.

-The items they sell would either be only from that server or from their entire region(NA/EU). I think NA/EU would be better to fill the market faster and with more diverse items.

-The items in the market would include all non account/soulbound items and price would vary from below to above market sell price. This way greys aren’t worthless as players could sell them in bulk for less than vendor making a profit and rarer items could have days were they drop in price giving that one lucky player an item they never thought they could get.

-Due to having the ability to buy items below market price or get special items that tons of other players might want the adventures would only be able to buy from the market a certain amount of times each day or week. This way nobody is sitting at the skritt market all day and night and it makes sense because these skritt want everybody to get some shinies not a small group of people.

-Skritt burglars could tie into this making them the primary gatherers for this market. If players kill too many on their server it might kitten off the skritt making them close the market till they decide to travel somewhere else. This would produce an extra risk vs reward as maybe that burglar has something special on him.

This would be a cool little thing for one of the sub races of this world. Anet could even use this to start adding to the sub races of this world lore/content wise giving them unique features like this skritt market. Although i don’t want Anet to work on the sub races that extensively as it would take away focus from the main game.

Sorry for any grammar errors and if this has been suggested before in any other form. Have a great one and while i might not comment I will read and take in anything you guys have to say about this idea.

Event combos for better rewards.

These are some awesome ideas that would probably help get people back into doing dynamic events instead of soley champ farms.

I’d like to add onto them or provide something else that would allow players to feel more rewarded for doing dynamic events on their 80s. At 80 the players really want dungeon tokens while these aren’t hard to get they can only get these from dungeons. Now 80s have no reason to do dynamic events, unless they include a champion, so zones can feel empty and 80s generally zerg in the same high champ locations. So how about rewarding players with dungeon tokens for completing dynamic events around the world. Anet could only allow a max amount to be earned each day and they could tie the tokens to the dynamic events in the zones surrounding the dungeons.

Orr would drop arah tokens, tarnished coast would drop TA, Southern shiverpeaks would be SE and northern would be HotW, and etc.

This wouldn’t tell players they need to get back into zones but 80s wouldn’t mind diverting their farming group for a second just to get a few tokens. Lowbies would get help more often from higher levels getting this reward and people would probably spread out even more than the champ bag patch caused(although they might just pick 1 good zone for each token still that’s 8 zones people are constantly in). They could even tie it into the combo system you described above to net more tokens the more events they combo together. It’s just annoying leveling my alts trying to get people to do dynamic events, even ones that allow champs to spawn later like ulgoth, and they refuse to touch anything that isn’t champion bag related. That and most people are still stuck in a small amount of zones due to champ bags so they’ll need an extra something to get them to do them.

I also don’t think the champion dynamic events(the ones that are just a single champion) should net tokens as then things wouldn’t change to much from the current champ farming.

Not saying i dislike the champ bags either i’m really happy they added them just now that they are here Anet needs something that will add a little more reward to the dynamic events as well. Not something that will even the rewards from champ bags out with dynamic events just a little something extra for running around the world doing this dynamic events. Some people also seem to feel anger when they miss a champ and zones mostly only call out champs and i think the ideas in this thread would help out with reducing both of these issues.

Ya he does a lot of good work, while not always right, it has gotten tons of people interested in the story and world of gw2. His video on the living story has gotten tons of people back into gw2 as they actually get what’s going on and appreciate the living story so much more because of it. I don’t see that many in the community doing as much work as him when it comes to trying to get people interested in the world behind guild wars.

Konig the lore of guild wars is huge anyone trying to cover all of it will make mistakes especially if they are doing it every other day like in his dailies(in video form so he is researching, recording, then editing). He does admit to mistakes when shown them and has even gone to make sure he explains his mistakes in comment or another video. Also like you said he is getting better probably due to knowing he makes tons of mistakes and trying to minimize this. The important thing is he is trying to show more people this world so they themselves can look deeper into it and appreciate it more and not many people are doing as much as he is. He is even starting a podcast with mattvisual that covers all parts of the game.

Although I personally don’t really care if he gets one or not. Woodenpotatos, dulfy, and all the others started doing the things they do so people could appreciate the game more and/or for their own enjoyment.

Well the lake might be going away so that ship wont be around to support much longer

1)You’re on the wrong server
2)WvW is pvp, expect to fight and get killed
3)You’ll get yelled at on every server, doing what you were doing

1) Which is the right server?
2) WvW is WvW, PvP is PvP.
3) I won’t yell at him. Why so mean?

Not sure if serious but PvP means player versus player which is what happens in WvW stop trying to over complicate the meaning of PvP. I don’t care if a mosquito is off to the right or theirs 100 of em if players are fighting each other it’s pvp you can give it another name like Spvp, WvW, team deathmatch, conquest, ctf, etc but it’s still pvp.

I think this is more an example of Anet trying to find what players want but their dynamic event system isn’t exactly impacting on the player base. Everything we do is reset within the hour of doing it so nothing we do in a dynamic event feels like it has an impact on the world. Thus it wouldn’t matter how many dynamic events they added players wouldn’t notice because sooner or later that event is gonna repeat and all the work they did will be gone so the next group of players can do the event. Players don’t think about the impact they are making because their is none thus they don’t think about the dynamic event they are doing because it’s just another dynamic event to them.

Not exactly bad just shows that their events aren’t actually fully dynamic more quests on loop. If they want to make it so people have interest in dynamic events they need to allow them to go a little crazy sometimes. Allow entire zones to be taken and kept by enemies forcing players to get involved if they want their zones back to normal. Allow enemies and allies to fortify these bases they take and over time the longer they keep them the harder they are to retake or to be captured. You could then make it so the more fortified a base is the stronger the army is that attacks it. So players actually want to fortify and protect these bases so that more champions spawn across the map giving them more loot. If they lose a zone to they will still want to take it because chaining all the dynamic events together will net them some nice gold/karma and some champion spawns.

The living story is how Anet is impacting their world but their isn’t a lot of tools in game for the players to do the same while Anet is off working on updates. So working on dynamic events this way or in some form like this would allow more impact on the world by the players. It would definitely take a good amount of time to pull off but It wouldn’t be impossible and they could start out slow by adding to the current meta’s/dynamic events involving the major enemy factions of the game(son’s of svanir, centaurs, nightmare court, etc)seeing if players enjoy the impact and extra rewards for sticking around and fortifying or taking back an outpost. Adding choice on how players can go about a dynamic event not in how they perform it but how the outcome turns out(like buring down/seiging a base destroying all the buildings/walls/supplies making it worthless so humans don’t capture it, or going in and killing all centaurs causing a champion or two to spawn giving a better reward and a new base to help fortify)

I’m sorry if this suggestion has already come up, I actually hope it has already, but I feel like it’s a must for WvW and couldn’t find it in a search.

When you walk up to a downed or dead body you should be able to force respawn if you pull a finisher on them. It makes the flow all weird and makes focusing a commander worthless with the current way deaths works. You can’t confuse an unorganized zerg by taking out their commander if they just pick him up a few second later. It gives groups with larger numbers an advantage and because of this strategy can only go so far in a fight were you are outnumbered(all the larger numbered group has to do is push forward with their power and have the back res up those you killed this of course, just like every strategy simple and complex, doesn’t always work). It promotes bad player habits were people will just run in dying almost immediately then wait for a res not contributing.

If this change was made small groups wouldn’t feel so weak they could strike zergs off and on strategically to reduce their numbers and split them. Commanders wouldn’t be at the front lines or always leading the charge because without a commander some zergs would lose all ability to function properly increasing their importance to friends and enemies. The zergs who become unorganized because of a loss of commander would have to learn how to stay organized without him or die promoting smarter play. This feature could promote more strategic play and you could even start seeing smaller strategic servers beat larger less strategic servers.

Players would also pay more attention to their downed comrades keeping players away or picking them up faster just to make sure nobody gets to them.

This change would be a drastic one so i think it would be good to test it with the community over a few weeks. I don’t know how i feel about a player being forced to respawn by ranged attacks so i think that is something that shouldn’t happen. Although if gone threw extensive testing that could probably be figured out but i think it would promote turtling in towers.
