This game has never been this restrictive and I know it since I’ve been here since launch.
Quartz and time gated charged Quartz was added to the game in July 2013, so it’s been in game for 3 years now.

An offical response would be lovely.
It’s very unlikely you’ll get an official response for a mechanic that’s been in game for several years. There’s been a lot of threads over the years on this and they never got a response.

Fair enough maybe I should have gone for felt, since I’ve written this from personal perspective, boy does time fly. And even though it’s unlikely that I’ll get an official response you can’t blame me for hoping =) Though I’d say with the installment of ascended mats in fracs there might be a chance that they’ll listen this time around (although that might me being hopeful).

First poster already offered a solution for your problem. Sheets of charged Ambrite, which are needed to craft the sinister gear, are tradeable and therefore obtainable via the tp.

It’s not about sheets of charged ambrite, I used sinisters as an example of gear availabe in comparison to HoT gear which requires charged thorns. I want charged quartz on the market or not timegated; It’s not a t6 and the way it’s being handled atm makes no sense, I mean give me a reason as to not to make it more available? It wouldn’t hinder its market, on the contrary, demand would increase for quartz as people start experimenting with the new types of armor including celestial, sinisters and the hot stuff.

So what is it? First you say that lifting the timegate wouldnt hinder the quartz market and in the next sentence you claim demand would go up.

I am not saying that quartz/charged quartz is in a good place right now but i think the timegate and its relatively high price are two separate problems. When it got released in july 2013, the price wasnt really an issue because quartz was dropping plenty and it was available for less than 5% of its current value. Introducing the timegate at that time was just a test run to see how the player base reacts to introducing timegates prior to ascended crafting. That reasoning might have become invalid by now but changing it now will definately not go down easily with players that crafted celestial gear with time restrictions.
And keep in mind that these days, charged quartz isnt only used to craft account bound items but also tradeable ones, like sheets of charged ambrite, ley line infused tools or grow lamps. One reason, why they put a timegate on asc mats was to make sure that crafters, who craft it on a daily basis and sell it, will get a profit. The same is true for charged quartz now, so why change it?

You can also avoid the timegate by buying and opening lots of wintersday gifts or t&t bags, which both have charged quartz as a rare drop. If you buy these containers on buy order by the thousands and sell everything else, except the charged quartz for lowest listing prices, you should even get most of your gold back, or even make a profit.

As I said, I agree that expecially celestial gear is a bit pricy atm but I dont think that this has anything to do with the timegate. Changing the recipe to 2-3 quartz per charge isnt a good idea in my opinion because it will upset those players that charged it with the regular recipe in the past. Its always better to adjust the supply and its droprates, which they have already done, at least temporarily during wintersday, when quartz lost about 60% of its value.
Concerning the timegate, I think it should stay in place. At first I thought that making charged quartz tradeable as well might be a good idea but putting some thought into it, it will probably cause a decent price spike on regular quartz because investors that want to speculate on rising prices for quartz would need 96% less space to store it in charged form.

Now I may not a native speaker but hindering the market and an increase in demand appear to be two different things to me. Let me clarify what I meant: By either lifting the timegate/removing the accoundbond factor or increasing the availability of charged quartz you’re leaving the orginal quartz market intact; prices can’t drop lower than they are now, so it isnt like that the market would be negatively effected by this change. Instead I foresee an increase of demand which will result in an increase in price which is profitable for the current sellers. Like you’ve said, now this doesn’t need to be a spike since there will be multiple ways to obtain charged quartz then.

Secondly you’ve mentioned that changing the timegate now won’t go down with those who have already crafted celestial armor, with this point. I agree to disagree, that’s a personal experience, I for one wouldn’t give a kitten since I’ve already made my armor or make some more for different classes to try it out, or I could be annoyed. But those players are only a tiniest bit of the fraction of gw2 players, so in other words the majority have to suffer for the 10%? (gotta love southpark xD)

And lastly wintersday presents are the biggest sham before the ecto gamble I have had better luck finding a precursor then I ever will finding a charged quartz in those and boy have I tried.

Listen peeps I’m not saying that they should increase the nodes and remove the timegate and increase the availability of charged quartz. Just one of these would suffice. Quartz are not a t6 mats, they are only used for 1 legendary and only 1 charged quartz is needed there, even ascended mats have multiple ways of obtaining them and they’re supposed to be the games endgame. And quartz cam be used for other recipes true, but so are the easily obtained materials for let’s say berserker’s insignia.

A month of charging, like a 5sec channel once a day.
For someone to have been here from launch that is nothing. Instant gratification…I’m sorry you cannot just go and buy everything ingame off tp…wait no I am not sorry.

Everytime I see one of these threads I laugh a little because by the time the thread has run its course the person probably already has half or more of the charged quartz.

I’m not asking for your sympathy, I’m asking for a contribution to this thread something that either opposes or confirms what there’s been said. And yes this is about instant gratification, (woops you’ve caught me), this also about getting materials the same treatment.

Timegated and accountbond = unfair. Don’t start about the fairness of life. T6 mats like damask and leather which are also timegated are obtainable through fractals, trading post and daillies, why can’t charged quartz receive the same treatment. This game has never been this restrictive and I know it since I’ve been here since launch. You’re telling me I’ll have to wait 8/9 days for a full set of EXOTIC sinisters armor + weps and even longer if I would bother for celestial armor. This kills diversity, this kills fun in experimentation. Honestly I am repulsed as a long time player and have no idea what a new person would think. And quartz can’t be locked behind the HoT premise since it’s been there pre-hot. Heck! Even crystalline ore is obtainable from the guild commendations shop, so what’s the deal here? An offical response would be lovely.

I tested this a bit last night. I died a lot more compared to Mercenary amulet, but it can put out a lot of condi damage if the opponent runs out of cleanses.

The 1050 precision is such a waste. I’m trying to at least get some benefit from that 50% crit chance with the sigils, but I don’t really love them so far.

wanderer wont let you kill ranger, ele and some engis.
you need to power to work it out. so carrion is your only choice left or viper risky as hell.

wanderer is working in 1v1 mainly but still with 15k hp and 2500 thief can land hard ones. while in carrion with 25k hp you can soak some punches

I wasn’t going to comment on this or any merc thread but you stated that wanderer’s won’t let you kill rangers and eles. As a mesmer who has been using wanderer’s 24/7 and has reached legendary (not that that’s so special anymore ~.~) using that amulet and only that amulet, I have to say that you are wrong. Rangers are my favorite players to encounter, I have not met a ranger yet that I’ve been unable to shutdown in a 1 vs 1 or in a group setting. <3 rangers

Eles on the other are tricky bees. It depends on the player and build; scepter and staff eles are counterable but meta eles have insane cleanses, but even they can be overpowered with large numbers of condi, or a quick Moa to apply your conditions ;p
In the worst case scenario you’re just wasting his time and disabling him to cap.

Lastly engi’s are tough, well for me. Engi’s will counter me unless they’re running condi (which happens nowadays), though that might because of my pistol. Thiefs on the other hand are fine. Either confusion or torment gets them or a combination of both. All of the above is based on my experience using wanderer’s since its release. Viper’s is viable and isn’t insane glassy as it might seem, just skip the team fights or warn your team that you’ll need a dozen resses.

ranger shouldnt die to condi build in 1v1 if they have the right build with cleanse. so with wanderer it will take you much longer
same as ele much longer to put them below 75% hp
thief if using shadow shot combo only with steal when you blocking will cut you done and pressure you . if they just AA hs they will die if not being careful. (check my vid versus the thief (bad one)

i dont say wanderer is not good rather it doesnt do much power dmg to be hybrid versus several classes at the meta

It’s kind of funny to me to read these whine festivals about condi chrono, when while running power shatter I’ve often been suggested by team mates to go condition instead.

I trust that when your team has a condition chrono, you suggest to them they go power shatter instead? Or is this the old case of being fine with it when your team has one?

Look, i think every pure, old school mesmer players just wants power shatter to be viable. It’s what the mesmer was made to do. It’s the most fun, highest skill capped, and utilises what is best about mesmer; mobility, burst, dictation of games via +1ing,

I’m fed up of this stupid condi bunker bull crap we are forced into.

Right now a mesmer is only good for moa + portal. And because of the meta, the build we are forced to play in order to carry out said moas + portals, is the one with the most survivability, and sustain; condi chrono.

I miss the old days where you were no 1 target because people knew a good power shatter mesmer would destroy anyone, anywhere on the map he wanted, if left to free cast.

I certainly can’t agree more; I started playing mesmer 2 years ago because I like playing DPS. Shatter Mesmer was one of the most fun to play, Staff / GS.. Oh god, those were the days..

The only issue though is that it was easy to be countered by thief but I think with current Chrono line it might actually not be free food if they would tweak some traits/skills so Chrono’s can actually go power shatter.

I have noticed Chrono with Marauder is working fine but ofc not as good as the condi bunker one

Secondly, nobody is forcing you to use condi, I honestly don’t get this sentiment in all anti-condi posts/threads. Given that you’re not born in a country which encroaches on personal rights and freedoms, all men are born with the freedom of choice. You want to play shatter? Go play it, using the inspiration traitline you have enough cleanse to face the meta if you’re playing with a brain.

Adressing Terrorsquad: Now his true motives appear, he wants his ‘fun’ build back, at the costs of others. Gs/Staff was nerfed when mirror blade stopped bouncing and mantras stopped recharging, that had nothing to do with chrono. Mesmer in itself has quite a few issues that need to be adressed and have been mentioned since launch, including clone generation, absurd cooldowns, broken class mechanics. Chrono gives back to the mesmer with by adressing this but is and will always be a band aid until these issues are resolved. Chrono is nowhere near the turret engi, signet of illusions might give a 50% health bonus, but remember that not every mesmer is using the same build. Some are aware of free choice. And you speaking on behalf of the pvp community is a joke. Some pvp’ers welcome condi and the builds it birthed other’s despise it. But one thing is sure power = not skill. Nor is condi, skill comes from a higher awareness, that some seem to be lacking when they want to adress every situation using the same build. Learn to adapt, learn to play. Let the condi meta rage until a balance has be found in the meantime how about some pve where power is still king

Im so sick of people wearing these nostalgia goggles.
There were meta builds, useless traitlines, kittenty utilities long before HoT.
Now that mesmers are more viable than ever, it makes no sense to balance it around the “core” game when the core game isnt the actual content being invested in…

Or maybe people like you could agree that balance and build diversity post-HoT have decreased a lot when you compare it to pre-HoT? Call it nostalgia if you like, I call it matter of fact. Either way, I’m done with GW2 PvP. It’s not balanced now and it sure as hell wont be balanced later… there are F2P games with better balance and diversity.

FYI, this isn’t just about moa nerf, it’s about the progressive and continuous nerfing of core because elite specs are overpowered. As long as they do that instead of fixing the broken stuff, to hell with balance.

This nerf was for the preservation of the chronomancer and has not negatively affected core mesmer in any regards, because let’s face it, nobody uses Moa, outside of chronomancer.

That is a two-cutting blade you hold there.. if nobody uses Moa, outside of the elite spec, maybe that is exactly because Moa wasn’t and isn’t overpowered on core mesmer because the huge cooldown offsets it’s strength. It makes even LESS sense to run moa now on core mesmer.

So why instead of nerfing Moa didn’t ArenaNet nerf chronomancer, which was the real reason Moa became “overpowered”?

Thanks for the laugh :P You mentioned a decrease in build diversity post-HoT, which honestly doesn’t make sense since HoT gave us a 6th trait line and new weps in combination with utilities. Build diversity was effeciently nerfed with the traitsytem rework pre-HoT so you might want to adress the dev’s on this one You can’t cry HoT killed diversity when it was the majority of the players who chose to abandon the core specs in favor of the elites, so they could follow the ‘meta’. Yes the elites outshine the core specs, I think everyone agrees on that. This is a matter that will be adressed in time.

Secondly, Moa wasn’t overpowered on core mesmer because it was useless outside of pvp where it was chosen seldom. All chrono did was shorten the cooldowns by a chunk, something which should have been done to mesmer elites and utilities a long time ago. Moa isn’t op, it’s a stupid skill but brilliant in its own rights, it can be blocked, interrupted, dodged and blinded. What more do you want?

As a long time mesmer main (since launch) and owner of 4 mesmers over 2 accounts, I have to say that no core mesmer gives a shoot about the Moa ‘Nerf’. Frankly all this attention on core mesmer comes over as insincere. Since the dawn of days mesmers have utilised either power shatter or pu in pvp, along with mass invis. Time warp nor Moa were viable options to take because of their cooldown. That has not changed with this ‘nerf’, and speaking from a pve or wvw, Moa is too insignificant to mean something in those game modes.

Balancing elite specs

Mesmer has always been a master duelist, either with its power or condi build.

Chronomancer has been introduced by a-net more by its theme (time control) than its role. But I think it is clear that chronomancer mostly brings team-fight and support abilities. First the shield allows the chrono to stay in fights where mesmer used to just die instantly, second with its wells, and in particular alacrity and quickness, the mesmer can support its team.

This is a good design concept and it “sort of” worked with chrono bunker appearing in season 1. But we see that chrono is still too strong compared to core mesmers, and actually, before bunker chrono became meta, we saw mesmers taking their new tools and play the old duelist role even better than before.

I believe what makes chrono stronger than core mesmer is:

  • Continuum split. After the big chrono bunker nerf, many mesmers thought of going back to core mesmer (the chronomancer traits bring barely any damage nor survivability) but CS is mostly what kept them playing chrono. This skill has to be nerfed, and I think the most reasonable way is to prevent CS from resetting elite cooldowns. This makes it less strong and also more interesting to play. I think CS could also been removed from F5 and put instead of F4 while F1-F3 were reworked in a more “chronomancer” fashion (see for example my suggestion https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/What-if-chrono-shatters-replaced-core-ones/first )
  • Shield: shield is our best defensive weapon, or best CC and our best support… That’s too much in one. I think the support aspect has to be kept, but the CC and defense need to be brought down a very little bit.
  • clone production: illusionary reversion and chronophantasma allow constant flow of illusions and made condi shatter nothing more than “shatter spam”. I used to love playing condi mesmer, but now it has become flavorless to me. That is not the question here, though. My problem with them is that I don’t think they fit the “chronomancer” theme and they belong to the illusion line in my opinion, and should maybe compete with each other.

In compensation to those nerfs, I think many chrono traits are a bit weak currently and need a little love.

Redesigning the mesmer’s mechanics is something which should have been done a long time ago so +1 for that.

But your points on CS or shield are wrong.
Shield is a great support weapon and that’s that. Great cc is a bit of an overstatement given that it’s on a 30s cooldown if executed properly. A supreme breakbar breaker? Sure! Cc… Not so much. Shield compensates for it’s ability with abysmal damage.

Now CS should be left intact for the time being, given that it’s the only thing keeping pve mesmers in the ‘Meta’. Chrono atm is the mesmer’s identity. You’ve talked about defining roles, but core mesmer are what? Low dps, bad mechanics, long elite cooldowns, questionable support.

Nerfing chrono is a kick to mesmers. They have no clear identity, everyone can do everything better than a core mesmer; which is something that should be looked at, how can a class be so underpowered because portal = nuff said. The title master duelists is the biggest deception mesmer’s have been able to pull off.

Why am I fighting diamonds as a ruby?

Because if you can’t defeat those diamond…then you don’t belong in diamond division. Fought sapphire in emerald, ruby in sapphire, diamond in ruby..and legendary in diamond, it happens at all divisions at T5-6

You’re probs right but then again you haven’t seen the teams I’ve played with, a rev ended up escorting a thief close, people don’t bother to cap, teams get slaughtered at mid and people still end up fighting there one by one, at this point I might have better success playing blind.

If youre in tier 5+ ruby its like a “ritual” to enter diamond to be mixed with diamonds & rubys. Kinda funny, but it exist in all divisions.

Seriously I don’t get what’s going on, could someone clarify why I am joining teams who have nothing to lose and deny me my entrance to diamond? Or fighting teams who are clearly better only to end up 500-400 and still lose my pips. I don’t get what’s going on, where’s the fun in this. If fun equals depression count me in

I don’t know why but in this last week I’ve had three games in which my game just froze, normal ping, fps 60+, but I can’t continue playing unless I close the game and restart it. Resulting in blissful dishonor

Asides confusion we’re lacking basic condi durations traits, traits like chaotic transference should scale with precision and overall lack of condi diversity and application (wheres our 10k burn huh T_T)

Scepter 2 whilst powerful is poop in a phantasm build, it should not replace a phantasm

Bleeds are your primary source of damage. The extra damage you’re getting from your other conditions (mostly torment) from vipers are extremely marginal compared to the rather massive loss to additional bleed potential. You’re also over-capping confusion, which is your secondary condition and primary ‘trash killer’.

I get your point and you’re right in all regards, however I consider this futureproofing lol, for when that condi elite spec appears ;) Or just handy for switching gear between several chars. But you’re right ^^

What to do with gold?

Heya guys, I’m wondering what you do with the gold you’ve amassed. I’ve been fortunate to obtain hefty sum (<3 mystic forge), and am wondering what’s there to buy/obtain besides ascended armor and legendaries (pre’s).

I love it!! You had me hooked at the intro <3 It’s refreshing to see something else than a bard as the new elite spec for the mesmer., and this seems to be a well thought out spec.

As for feedback, Reality warp is a no go, either its cooldown needs to be upped or its secondary effect changed. Secondly, Void Fluctuation = an overkill, keep in mind that the anomalies + Rail strike inflict cc —-> stunbreaks will have been used through the course of a fight with a displacer, so you’d be basically rendered a free kill by the time one would activate Void Fluaction, up it’s cooldown to 90s. Thirdly, traits like N.A.M.E, Hard proximity, need internal cooldowns. Heck, all the displace traits might need internal cooldowns depending on the cd chosen for displace.

Overall a well thought out spec, I’m really looking forward to seeying something similar ingame. However I must say that the displacer is a heavily oriented pvp spec? I see no reason to bring it into a party over the chrono, so more team support? I dunno

lol, looks good now, though i’d switch out the weps for dire as well since 9% crit is equal to 0% in my opinion. My last suggestion would be trailblazer armor + wep in combination with nightmare +trapper runes

it’s pretty much dire but the condi duration makes it more potent, don’t forget to switch out sigil of smoldering :p

Looks interesting but why is it that you’re using sigil of smoldering and runes of balt without a torch? I’d also opt for a carrion/rabid mix or a carrion/dire. But wvw is not my forte, soooo Disappears

Title says it all. I’d like to suggest the reintroduction of the gemstore skins such as the phalanx armor set, for a christmas/new year sale. There’s certainly a market for those, and you’d have atleast 1 customer which is me xD

I know it’s meant to discourage/punish kittens who kitten up a game, but what about those who dc but come back? I can’t help but wonder why this system would write a man up for dessertion while his team is clearly winning and he makes it back within 2m. How does the game decide whose a desserter and who’s not because I feel like there should be a better system for this. Getting written up for dessertion and having to wait sucks, add the pain of knowing that your team was winning = T_T

Can you be more specific about these “unforseen reasons”? Because the only one I can think of that would prevent a character from being played is the account got banned.

If the account’s banned, there is no justification for allowing that player to get those achievements. It cheapens the effort of everyone who follows the rules.

Not reffering to banning lol, but you are completly right ^^.
Extreme example: Ex-bullied, got harrassed online, reported his harrassers but still felt like his account had been tarnished by the event, wants to start afresh on a account where noone knows him or his situation to prevent ever being a victim again.

Well of Recall seems to have become obsolete with the glorious changes made to All’s Well that Ends Well. I propose to buff its Alacrity amount with 2 seconds or alter its use to something like a group wide Continuum Split for hp and up its cooldown with 60 sec (though this might be a dream)

Well of Precognition seems to be underwhelming mainly due to the fact that the blur appears after the well ends. My proposition would be to remove unblockable and make it a well that pulses blur on a 1 sec interval, when it ends grant fury/stability

Well of Calamity seems to be in a good place, same goes for Well of Action.
As for Gravity Well, not sure how I feel about it.

Ooo and take a look at Illusionary Reversion, it’s a bit iffy at the moment. Perhaps an internal cooldown and reversion to the original trait will do it more good!

Overall the Chronomancer is a well designed spec which reminds me why I fell in love with mesmer in gw1, I couldn’t be happier

Doesn’t this mess with the whole idea that phantasms/clones aren’t build to last (when using the utility on yourself)? In optimal conditions you would have a pemanent phant following you around similair to a necro AI.

Ignoring all I said: Heck yeah this should be a thing, though iDefender could use a larger health pool!

But I’m really curious and itching to make a necro but do have some concerns of which I’d hope you kind people of this forum will help adress Would you say that the anti-necro sentiment that has been witnessed in dungeons is disappearing? And how does necro perform in fractals? Some regard the class as inferior is there a valid reasoning behind this? Ooooo and for those who played reaper during beta, did it kitten?!!

Completely agree with this! Wiser words have not been spoken! I have been a player for over three years now and nothing makes me rage more then dc’ing at the end of a PvP match, PvE dungeon or fractals. I would say dc’ing at fractals is the most painful out of the three, knowing that you will have to spend another hour or more, to obtain the rewards you missed at the last second!

- I just dc’ed at Mai Trin 25%, the pain ;_;

Am I being ignored when it comes to stealth?

Recently I’ve aquired myself a lvl 80 engi. Great class, great char works well in parties, but heres the problem. Everytime I want to run a metazerk run, let it be Ta fwd or Cm there is always a thief tagging along. It makes me feel unwanted :C Yesterday I cleared the first bit of p1 Cm that stealth bitty without dieying (which is an achievement xD) and opened up an lfg and guess what, a thief joined .. I can stealth so why the thief TT

I remember a case with Ta where I said I would stealth for dogs, and they just ran past through me and some died lol I tell the guards (we had two) that with flamethrower, a staff would not be needed so they could switch for more dps and what does one do? He attacks all the blooms, he even did it in stealth…

So basically does anyone else ever feel ignored when playing as an engi performing basic tasks? Or is my low lvl ap holding me back (2k).
