It feels like the economy changes are basically – we took the things you enjoyed doing in the vanilla game, that gave you rewards, and took those rewards and put them in something you don’t enjoy doing so if you want to keep having fun you need to buy the new content (because we also made sure that stuff is rewarding) otherwise you are just going to be farming nodes n stuff like that.
basically this there is such a driving force behind to FORCE you to upgrade to the expac.
as it stands ok so you giving us 4 new maps(while they may be bigger they are still maps and maps don’t take long to fully complete exploring wise), no new max level while nice there isn’t that need to spend a good amount of time leveling like other mmos do to help spread out the game so to speak ffxiv did it pretty terribly since they nerf Heavenswards fates to worst then base games so basically quest old fates and dungeons to level to 60. don’t mind but there is non of that fluff to slow down players.I’ve been reading basically the three legendaries they show are the only ones ready. as well as raids not being there at launch
so we are basically getting bit new pvp stuff new wvw map 4maps and fractals. and basic features like guild halls finally. I did not pre-order heart of thorns I am putting my foot down And waiting for third party site deals I not paying full price for some of an expac.
yeh i didnt preorder – no flipping chance im going to either when my only reward is what? a character slot!? bahahahaha. Halo is coming out this month – im getting that. thats an actual full game and i think its the same price.
Ill get this eventually but i wont be in a rush to do it. and if it turns out i need to spend 10 quid on top to get the “living story” content which i’ve missed (which should be all free seeing as they said the expansion gives you the living story) I will never be getting this “expansion” – at least for another year or two……which by then ill have found a different mmo.
i really like guild wars 2 but i cant help but feel like this may be the death of it for me. ill let others review and make a judgement call.

Honestly, it feels like 99% of the decision making of Anet is done by a small clan of people that play the game. If its content or characters they play, it will become ace. If its content they don’t play, they will try push everyone away from it because it’s not worth their time.

i use rifle. it allows for some hit and run gameplay in combination with the greatsword whilst always maintaining damage.
i use rifle and love it, in pve
not a bad idea +1
just separate them first so they dont overlap, we can discuss other mechanics somewhere else :P
I’m still psyched to have a go with berserker as warrior is my fav class (also fire is my theme so this all fits me like a glove). I’m thinking GS + rifle using berserker as a form of death prevention and with berserker stance being a stun breaker i can free up a move slot for something epic.
pve of course – i hate my warrior in pvp :P

When they said challenging content, what they meant was challenging to your real life >:D (but seriously….)
…I see your problem. You don’t have enough time to play. WEll…sorry but deal with the fact you probably wont be able to do this then.
Having not enough time to play a game isn’t the problem of the game unless they are spitting out 10 hour raids with no save points.
Seriously.
Things like wings capture peoples imagination till they put them on their character, realise they look terrible on their ill fit character, then realise there’s some people running around looking ace in them, then realise a different back item looks better, then realise there’s also a load of people who also look terrible in them running around.
I love my black wings, i had literally been swapping in and out different backpack skins for a very long time on my look because no back item seemed to work. the wings work.
It is virtually exactly the same pattern that happened with the shattered dragon wings. EVERYONE was rocking them at first.
Ive spent 100 gold+ in past on items for the skin, then later realised i dont like it and changed it out :P …so much useless rare skins on my account
lol, not sure if troll thread or serious.
KABLAAA! LEEROY JENKINS!
Why not just have separate rewards for “easy mode” and “hard mode”?
Personally, i think there should always be something for the elite to earn, its not an elitist thing – its a logical “self entitlement avoiding” conclusion. People who work hard to complete difficult content should be rewarded differently from the guy who strolled the easy path.
SAB is a prime example: same items for everyone doing it BUT different colour depending on the difficulty scale you chose.
Things I’ve done to combat the game getting stale:
Do a group event solo… it’s so good if you actually win.
Roll a new character and do an alternate path of the PS that you haven’t done before (requires correct answers when creating new char).
Run the entire length of Orr in your underwear without dying. (Goodness, I must be really bored)
Any silly thing you can’t remember ever doing… this one is hard. lol.
Revisit a JP and actually do it instead of just getting your friendly neighborhood spider-mesmer to port you up.
altho your thinking is clever and should be rewarded, it is not (but neither is anything really in this game). The simple truth for me, beyond doing things like JP just for the hell of it and exploration (as in things to do purely for fun and not the reward), is that i’d rather just play another game when it comes down to it, so i do. I LOVE the fighting system in this game but i feel like this game is a film ive watched 50 times already. Sure, the film is ace – but it aint changing and other films usually have had 5 sequels by now. idk…. metaphors.
I wasn’t trying to be clever… just saying what I do. I don’t expect anyone to agree with me and really don’t care. I’ve only put 2600 hours over 5 characters into playing this game in the last year and a half and haven’t done half the content there is to do (mostly because those parts don’t appeal to me or I lack the ability to do them).
For me, this game is easy enough in PvE that my limited physical abilities are enough to do most everything there. I can dabble in WvW and low end Fractals and avoid PvP and dungeons. I’ve learned how to get around well enough that I can actually start looking around at the scenery instead of constantly having to watch my back for the next thing trying to kill me… I’d like to be a tourist once in a while instead of a survivor… just climb a mountain or scale a cliff and just look at the view.
If there is another game like GW2 out there that I could actually play, I might consider it. But right now, GW2 is the only game in town for me.
srry, i think you misunderstood, i was applauding your efforts to revitalize how you play the game – finding things to do where others simply give up like myself. It is a shame that Anet haven’t added processes that reward what you do (a toggle option for example, similar to how skulls worked in halo, where your gear is equal to no gear for the run but you get extra rewards or gold, etc.)

Everything you have said are extremely poor reasons to think that GW2 is doomed.
Would you like to see good reasons to think that GW2 is doomed?
- The GW2 earnings have been falling since release through Living Worlds 1 and 2. Both, which were meant to take the place of expansions, have failed in giving the influx of money expansions bring.
- Living Worlds 1 and 2 failed. Again, they didn’t keep the game interesting enough to raise earnings; and the experimental nature of both of them (you can see how the beginning of Living World 1 was different from its end, which was different from Living World 2) shows how ArenaNet was trying to find a model that worked for them, only to ultimatelly throw the concept away and go for an expansion. I laugh at people who think that buying HoT will give them access to future Living World content; it’s dead.
- ArenaNet was focusing a lot at the China release, one year ago. The NPE was created after Chinese focus groups were having trouble with the beginning of the game, and they stopped making content for the West in order to prepare for the release over there. Yet, the China release tanked hard.
- HoT is clearly being rushed (few maps, incomplete legendary sets, they’re still making massive changes to the well developed specializations, the bad developed specializations are awful). It’s hard to believe that they will make big, sustained profits once the expansion hits. Why do you think there has been this much secrecy?
One thing you can easily see from hints everywhere – forum titles for ArenaNet employees, Glass Door reviews, talks from ArenaNet people – is that they have a very poor management system. Wasn’t it said that it was only a small team working on the Living World? A few people assumed that meant the studio had been working on a “secret project” for years now, but the lull in content while we wait for HoT has shown the truth – ArenaNet has been mostly spinning on their wheels, mostly due to bad management. Unless they do a massive shake up, it seems very unlikely that they will be able to save GW2.
on note of the china release. I couldnt believe how far Anets advertising team had their heads up their posterior. You should watch the trailer, it basically showed off everything that Guild Wars 2 did horrifically, such as the Zhaitan fight, as the pinnacle of the game. It would have taken one reviewer to get to that, slate the game, then china would have switched off.
I dont know why they didnt revisit some aspects of the game and rehash them out before thye went to china. I still find it astonishing that no one has gone back and made that whole thing more interesting.
To me, the problem of Anets for years, the REAL problem, is that they put very little effort into doing what the playerbase wants. They are better at making excuses than they are at making new content, and rarely they even say anything so that should tell you something.
This game is getting stale, no new contents since they killed the living story. And Anet is stringing us along till HoT, happily collecting our prepaid money with nothing to show for it.
dont preorder, wait till its out. Im just as concerned as you but ill hold my judgement till its released and the first skeptics get a chance to review it.
I would suggest people not to preorder also, especially if they might release HoT at the same time as the release of Fallout 4.
dont preorder fallout 4 either :P. Seriously. pre-ordering should be illegal with the amount of glitchy/unfinished/bad games that get released these days. Fallout 4 is going to be amazing, im super hyped for it, but i doubt their ability to release a finished, polished game given the game breaking glitches that have plagued my attempts to complete the previous games (skyrim too, thank god for console commands and pc in general, altho it took like a year+ for the game to go from low settings at launch, to ultra high with hd texture mods, etc. on the same computer).
At least Fallout gives you a release date for the preorder, you will know when you will be playing it. Has Anet given any date…. but yet they want your money?
yeeeeaaaaaahhh….it is a bit lame.
Never understood the concept of pre-ordering online content. It made sense when buying physical copies due to the finite amount, but not for something you will just download.
exactly, it makes sense when you are a total fan of something and you are getting an item that is collectible. These sort of things are invaluable to some people. Pre-ordering digital copy for the sake of pre-ordering tho is just….why?
back in the day people pre-ordered so their shop definitely had a copy for them ready. back in the day your local shop might only have bought 5 copies of the game on top of preorders, and those went fast.

I’d like to add that in pve, having that 25% speed boost or 33% speed boost is invaluable
Yes, but that wasn’t the point of the thread. The point of the thread was to raise questions about the existence of swiftness exactly because acquiring it (or just a flat +25% speed boost) is so easy when anyone wants it.
If everyone moved faster, monsters would need a speed buff or pve would become even easier.
Alright. Why not?
This means less time to react and all the time cast skills would become less viable as a result.
As I’ve said before, nobody re-positions with swiftness if they really need to move quickly. Instead, they’ll just use a teleport. This won’t change even if everyone is suddenly moving at 133% base speed.
Being faster isnt just a useful thing out of combat, it really makes a difference IN combat as well, if you know how to use it and that’s the whole point.
Like I’ve said before, swiftness’ in-combat usage is very limited and almost at the level of fluke should it ever actually be effective at avoiding damage. Teleports and ranged damage will outrun any player with swiftness any day.
It’s a choice, sacrifice extra damage or a cool effect to gain a movement boost.
Again, the reality is that it’s hardly a choice at all. It’s either:
- Take swiftness because nothing is going to stop you from autoattacking it to death.
or- Take invulnerability and instant damage/CC because I don’t need to move when I have ranged attacks/teleports and someone else on my team is probably going to give everyone enough swiftness to move to where we need to be so we can start pressing our buttons.
1) not really, for some classes its a real choice or a defining part of your role. you have to pick either a skill or a weapon or a rune set to achieve it, sacrificing other skills/weapon/rune set. This is a key component in this game, forcing hard choices to choose your build.
2) because when monsters move faster people have less time to react to everything, less time to cleanse themself before the next smash, less time to recover endurance to dodge away. Casting that 3 second interuptable skill now is a hell of a lot harder in straight combat because that prick monster is now faster.
3)first, i do. second, you dont speak for everyone and their play styles. proof: i do. as a warrior i have 3 on greatsword, 5 on greatsword and dodge rolls. They run out quickly in straight combat with a powerful enemy and with a speed boost, i can move and shoot with my rifle, casting cripple and slowing them down, at the same time. If the game removed swiftness and buffed everyone and monsters, my build would become unviable as the core component of my gameplay: staying away from the monster and only attacking melee in bursts, wouldnt work anymore.
4)swiftness in combat is limited, sure. but so is casting a horror after 30 kills. You dont see that getting implemented on every character just because it is limited (another rune set as im sure you are aware). If we never had swiftness in the first place, and we just only ever had basic speed as top speed, we would be used to it and would not care. because there is a speed boost we feel like it needs to be on every character, when it doesnt.
5) the same is true for any boons. why take might skills when the team you are with might cast might, why take retaliation, etc. The point is, you take what you cant live without, and just enjoy when you have a team covering the rest.

Open world PVE wouldn’t be as bad if 80-90% of the zones where not scaled down. Boring when you just run around 2-3 shotting everything.
Have you even played in low level zones since the trait system revamp ?
The downscaling now works so that in low zones a level 80 in full exotic has
LESS stats than a newbie in blue or green stuff.Tired of doing several world bosses because I have done them over and over? Yes.
Tired of the concept in general? No.
And as this is the logical consequence of this thread:
Tired of asking for raids or raids in general? Y E S+1 to this
honestly, this is probably a good thing. we should be better at the game than newbs anyway and atleast this way, newbies get to feel powerful as they start the game, encouraging them to play on.
EDIT: we also have traits and full skills. seems balanced to me.
(edited by Equilibriator.8741)
I dabble in all game modes (PvX), but I also add something to the game on my OWN, which has helped my boredom!
ROLE PLAYING!
Yes, trust me, role playing adds so much more to a MMORPG, because you actually act as your character, develop a story, and even travel Tyria, in a whole new way when you incorporate roleplaying. I have gone on many adventures with other Roleplayers during my time in Tyria, and let me tell you, without RPing, id be bored by now. You see the game differently than just grind, grind, grind. Sadly lots of people in GW2 and other MMOs are GRIND ZOMBIES and do not realize that by Roleplaying and getting in touch with your character, do you really open up other exciting ways to play a MMORPG.
We should rp, i wanna try! :P
I’d like to add that in pve, having that 25% speed boost or 33% speed boost is invaluable if you can inflict cripple and damage at range. You can literally just keep moving and bosses take forever to get to you, when they do, you just dodge roll through them and you can create another nice big gap while they do their attack animation in the wrong direction.
If everyone moved faster, monsters would need a speed buff or pve would become even easier. This means less time to react and all the time cast skills would become less viable as a result.
Being faster isnt just a useful thing out of combat, it really makes a difference IN combat as well, if you know how to use it and that’s the whole point. It’s a choice, sacrifice extra damage or a cool effect to gain a movement boost that can benefit you in combat. It’s a side benefit that you get around the world faster for some people.
Because speed is also beneficial outside combat, doesn’t mean we should just give it to everyone and remove the choice.
(sorry lots of edits)

This is why i use rune of the traveler on all my main peeps (that cant generate it with their weapons). Having permanent 25% speed boost is amazeballs.
p.s. i don’t see the problem with swiftness in this game.
Sort of not on topic but i would love if they allowed us the ability to alter glow colours on gear (such as grenth hood green eyes being possible to change colour)
If we could do that to weapons also i would be soooo happy.
What if they announced 3 PvE maps for HoT?

I agree with ardenwolfe.
One of the early issues of this expansion is that the content offered is almost equal to a free LS season + some free feature updates.
And you know, that kind of content i like, but there is a main difference. You have to pay for it this time.I blame all those people who asked for an expansion, a payed expansion. At the end we’ll have the same as if it was free but paying it.
And with a whole year of wait and lack of content in the meantime…Learn from our errors and next time, please, ask for more free and frequent content and less semiexpansions with money like this one.
how is it the fault of the player that anet decided to charge an arm and a leg for another living story update? We asked for an expansion, hopefully its what we get. Just because they stuck the word “expansion” to it, doesnt make it what we asked for.
If i ask for an apple and someone asks for money up front then gives me an apple tree seed, its a bit kittenish to say i got what i asked for when i clearly didnt.
i think what he was trying to say is that 4x 0 is still 0.
or rather 2×0.000001 is still basically nothing.
Think everytime you buy a lottery ticket, you now get two. Still got no chance of winning the jackpot, just better chances of winning the most basic prizes.
more dungeons seemed to me like the easy way to go, with random elements to keep it fresh. Whats wrong with having a few parts of the dungeon swap around with some rooms being like a 1% chance of appearance during the run, etc. or when you normall go north through a tunnel this time it collapsed and you ave to find another way?
but they are not making anymore dungeons…schoolboy error if you ask me.
That’s what fractals are, and people are complaining left, right and center that they are too random to run, with “good” (read: short and easy) and “bad” (read: long and possibly complex) fractals thrown in the mix and no chance to select the ones you want to run.
Random content may sound good on paper, but in reality it’s next to impossible to balance the randomness to get a set of truly equal alternatives, and most (if not all) players will eventually get annoyed when the randomness gives them a variant “again” that takes them out of their comfort zone rather than the one they prefer.
Personally, I’ve been playing this game since shortly after launch, and I’ve yet to run out of content. Compared to the MMO I played before I enjoy the fact that I can choose what I want to play rather than having to repeat the same content until long after it’s stopped being enjoyable just to get that piece of gear I have to have to stay competitive (I’ve been playing healer and sometimes tank in high-end raiding), then raid two nights a week only to go a whole raid period (about a year) without getting the one top-end drop the raids gave because it was too rare to outfit the whole raid with it.
I’m glad this game doesn’t do “get this random drop only as a rare chance from boss xyz” for (almost) all of its content, because that’s what eventually frustrated me most in previous games. I’m an adult, I can very well choose what content I enjoy. I don’t need to be channeled into instance x and daily repeatable quest y just to keep my equipment level at a point where I won’t be a detriment to my raid.
what i described is in not what fractals are. Fractals is 9 (or whatever) dungeon paths that you only do 3 of in random order.
That is completely different to what i described which is one dungeon, all connected, but is randomised as you progress via different events. In other words, it is almost procedurally generated.
Fractals is just a random mashup of individual set dungeons, with completely predictable outcomes once you start each ‘part’.
its stuff like this that makes you concerned about the expansion. If Anets idea of challenging content is massive health pool….
Sorry, I’m a bit outdated, ¿what are the other things that should had got the end game that would make it a good one?
I heard people saying that the GW2 endgame sicks because there are not raids, so, immagining that they successfully apply raids, (instances of 25 / 40 players.), will that really extend the life eternally? As I see it, it’s the same like current dungeons, when people play them several times, knows them and have already taken all the rewards than the instance can offer, they will have ended and return to the same situation that they are now.
Above getting gear of higher levels, to once you’ve got it, need to find a new gear with higher level than before… that could be a way to keep the people hanging and busy, a kind of “endgame”… but I prefer the current GW2 system, one top, and then can go obtaining more gear for collection purposes when I want, not forced to don’t be behind.
So, is there really any especial thing that GW2 endgame were still lacking? and that thing, ¿is really a solution?.

Revenant isn’t a race. So no.
i imagine we will see world stuff where we fight together to repel “boss” relevant to mordremoth, including mordremoth.
then a personal story where you get to finish it, etc. Like what we have with zhaitan.
Im thinking the odds are we go inside mordremoth, what with all the underground stuff that already exists, so the whole “dragon fight” wont be how we kill it.
all conjecture
SAB seems like the easiest way to “add” content to keep us busy. Don’t have to do anything new to it, just as is.
i barely play at the moment, i need something to do other than grind for gold.

nothing wrong with that, unusual choices usually make for the most unique characters

I’m in a similar vein as a lot of people. LOVE the armour, HATE the monotony.
I’m not paying real money to look like everyone else. It just doesn’t make sense…
I could understand a new player/character getting this tho, its a costume they can wear all the way to lvl 80.
No lvl 80 should wear costumes imo as their look.
If they sold costumes one time then never again, i would understand that as well, because then over time it would become rare to see people in said costume.
Unfortunately, every costume comes full circle OVER and OVER again.
I have had situations where ive been insta kicked for asking a simple question, such as “which way are we doing this bit?”. The question basically checking we are all on same wavelength so they dont start doing it some old way. Then i get insta kicked cos “you should know the path already”.
I’ve also been kicked by a group for knowing the most up to date route when they didnt, and upon going that way, got kicked.
I totally get what OP means, i stopped asking for clarification once the run starts because, more often than id care to think, i have been kicked just for asking a question.
It’s a nice idea but probably won’t happen. I think you are meant to just pass that armour onto an alt and make a new one if you need new stats.
And i don’t even want to talk about making legendary an armour type.
I say leave as is. The only frustrating thing is when they change how stats work or nerf a class so that you HAVE to change. That’s happened a few times with me, it sucks.
Speak for yourself not others I can craft an entire light armor set this instant and still have tons of money left over as well as extra materials.
The stat gain from exotic to ascended is so minute its a moot point. If youre “playing on a budget” weapons will always do more for you simply because of the base damage increase. So pointless.
sorry, I don’t understand the relevance of your comment, to mine >.>

I am one of those people strongly against the idea of traditional instanced set-number raids we see from other games making its way in GW2. In those games, they only serve to split the community and act as a cornerstone for most of the elitist behavior.
That said, I think they could make raids work in GW2. They just need to take a strong look at all of the elements from those other games that encourage inter-community strife and hate and address them in their design.
So, yes, I would love to see raids, but not in the form we currently see in other games. They need to be Guild Wars 2 raids, with the emphasis on fun and friendly cooperative gameplay that brings the community together rather than tears it apart.
Again, however, I don’t expect to see raids in HOT nor do I think it would be a good use of developer time right now.
see you get it, it doesnt have to be like other games, all hardcore and elitist, it can just be another game mode for fun. it doesnt have to be a bad thing, just because its long and requires people.
(besides, in everymode there is elitists that will tell you to go away, doesnt matter where you go, dungeons, pvp, wvw. With raids you will just sometimes have 10 of them at once :P (like in wvw))
Simple fact is that the individual isn’t important, and there’s a majority that want raids. If a majority wants more wvw, you already know its coming. A majority wants more pvp, so thats coming. A majority also want raids, so its probably coming sooner or later..
Citation needed. You have no proof other than the word of you and maybe 5 others in this thread.
right back at you, apparantly you know the majority dont want raids
(and when i speak about a majority, i mean a large enough group of people, not 50%+ of the playerbase. Because rarely do more than 50% of the playerbase all want the same thing.)
now to be clear, i realise a lot of people came to guild wars 2 to escape games with raids, but there is no reason they have to force raids on anyone. The rewards could be completely even with everything else.

if you dont understand that other people have different wishes and if you are so jelly and entitled that you cannot grant them what they deserve, play a game that is designed for you. for example, a single player game. i heard there are many out there and still going.
This game was never meant for raiding. Aren’t you the one that is being entitled asking for a game designed for you when there are already other raiding games out there? Why change GW2 when something else is out there for you?
Thats a terrible argument. Im not even going to bother explaining why because it should be obvious. (There has been so much additions to the game that have only been for certain groups of the gamerbase, did you hate on all of them too?)
(technically adding a new pvp map or a skin is adding something to the game not originally there, you speak of raids like they will change everything such as wvw and pvp and personal story and how equipment is managed, etc)

honestly, why are people saying a whole game mode shouldn’t be added for those that want over the issue of a skin set….
I hate raiding and the raiding community and I would rather that not be in the game. I would rather development resources go to gameplay that most of the playerbase would participate in. Not hard to understand. If you want to raid, play a game designed for it. I hear RIFT is still going.
yes its not hard to understand. but its hard to rationalise.
I dont pvp or wvw. So does that mean no new pvp or wvw content should ever be added? i can find other people who would rather more pve content was added and pvp and wvw pull from this focus, so thats the same as your argument.
Simple fact is that the individual isn’t important, and there’s a majority that want raids. If a majority wants more wvw, you already know its coming. A majority wants more pvp, so thats coming. A majority also want raids, so its probably coming sooner or later.
The fact you and some others dont want raids is irrelevant because you wont play raids. the important thing is what people want, not what people dont want, unless its forced upon the whole community which raids wont be, except for maybe a skin thats unlockable.
one skin set thats hard to get does not qualify a decent reason to oppose something being added to the game, when the skin set does not need to be tied to that mode and can be made sellable on tp.
If they made it so that you couldnt get past wvw lvl 15 without doing a raid, then yes, thats bullkitten. but they are not doing that. raids will not effect you if you dont want to play them.
by your own argument they shouldnt add anything to the game, in any form, because it wasnt originally in the game. the game wasnt designed for it originally.
ON TOPIC: i think raids are coming, not this expansion but i think it will come eventually. Its only natural progression. Technically guild event puzzles are a bit like raids already, they just need to throw in a hardcore boss here n there.
