I was sort of hoping that the Warband summons could at least be traited to provide “Lesser” versions of Frost/Sun/Storm Spirit at the cost of maybe a fraction of their uptime or something, but your ideas are sound.

>Shield
+Longest Block skill
+Has healing on both skills (scales with Healing Power)
+Can grant AoE Protection

-A bit more Energy intensive than the others+longest CDs of the three
-Rooted during block (easy signal to the enemy to use unblockables)
-Healing is very weak without investment
~Only usable with Herald

>Sword
+Blocking skill thats doesnt root you
+Not very energy intensive
+Low CDs
+2 CC skills (immobilize, pull)

-Block is channeled and can be interrupted at start
-Short range skills

>Axe
+AoE CC (Pull)/Single Target CC (Slow/Chill)
+Usable on power or condition builds
+Gap closer (Unblockable)
+Mid range skills

-No defense on this setup

I’d like to see the F2 Skill Stunbreak instead of the heal tbh.
Make the heal cleanse Condis while pulsing to reward staying in the AoE instead of reducing condition damage, because that just doesnt work for survival when you’re already pinned to an area for maximum benefit during.

Am I alone in thinking Herald needs buffs?

I wish Herald was more viable for Might sharing so that it would at least be an alternative to PS Warriors when it comes to PvE. Its Offhand (Shield) is also pretty bad after being nerfed without any form of compensation.

Euthymias.7984

Their are too many weaknesses to the renegade for it to even be considered remotely viable in pvp and wvw.
and it’s not just the people in this thread that think so.
Take a look around the forums. Everyone is pretty much in agreement on one thing.
The renegade for pvp and wvw is a complete and total bucket of kitten

This.
I really cant stand the idea of another spec being “made” to fit for one game mode.
This is the same problem I had with Scrapper: cool theme, GREAT for PvP/WvW, but offers too little in PvE to be worth considering. Now, its Renegade being likely to be “optimal” in PvE and subpar everywhere else instead of being a viable alternative for different game modes like Dragonhunter/Tempest/Druid/Herald were.

Should I continue with Revenant?

in Revenant

Posted by: Euthymias.7984

Euthymias.7984

-stuff-

I’ll give you a quick rundown from my perspective.

The Good:
Cool theme
Lots of Gw1 Nostalgia
Flexible – can spec/gear to fill multiple roles depending on what you want to do
Fairly challenging to use if you want something like that
Decent against Power builds (PvP)

The Bad:
There are still bugs/unfinished aspects of the class
Energy can be a kitten to manage on top of cooldowns and sometimes outright cumbersome
Certain roles are exceptionally niche – there’s not much that Rev does "better’ than others
Melts like butter to Condi builds (which are extremely prevalent these days)

>Is the Rev not appreciated in group content?
It does alright in PvE (particularly open world and Fractals, even though its not the “Meta”. If the group’s not asking for something specific, you’ll likely not have too much trouble getting in.

Raids are another matter. There are specific Meta compositions that people are often not very flexible with. You wont easily find a spot here, but YMMV if you have a guild or whatever.

WvW? Revenants are fairly appreciated if they use Mallyx/Jalis for buffs to survive condition bombs from the enemy groups or Ventari for zerg healing. They’re probably second only to Tempests and Guardian frontliners.
Dont expect to roam as well as other professions like Druids, Thieves, and Mesmers, though.

PvP?
We’re not exactly in a good place with the current meta. Its usable as a profession, but you will absolutely struggle against some matchup/comps because there’s very little you can do to disengage or manage conditions thrown on you.

I’d recommend playing it for awhile, preferably with a lv80 boost and see where it takes you. If you like playing it, then just roll with a guild if you want to play it in High end content like Raids/T4 Fractals reliably (even easier if you’re a condi-Rev). If not, there are always other options.

Shortbow
-Skills one and two, I’m fine with.

-Skill 3….that needs some kind of change. there’s no way this is practical to acquire max damage on the regular beyond the most static of targets. I’d recommend making it similar to Ranger’s SB3 where you gain evade frames while shooting.

Something like “Deploy an arrow while retreating that explodes shortly after, crippling and tormenting foes hit by the blast” w/ 3/4 iframes.

Skill 4: Reduce pulses to 3,but deal more damage/burning or cripple/slow enemies who move in/out of the ring, akin to Test of Faith.

Skill 5: Pretty decent. Might just be me, but it seems to “fade” before reaching max range sometimes, though

Traits
I dont have an issue with too many of the traits, though there are some changes I’d like.

Righteous Rebel should shed (or convert) conditions. Something like:
“Using a Legendary skill removes conditions depending on the amount of Kalla’s Fervor active. Using a Legendary Renegade skill cleanses more conditions. Conditions cured per 5 stacks: 2 (Legendary Stance)/Conditions cured per 5 stacks (3 Legendary Renegade). ICD 8s”

All For One
Its kinda lame that all it does is Protection stacking.
If each were able to apply a specific boon at a threshold of Kalla’s Fervor, the Warband members might be able to support a bit better. That might even make it GM worthy depending on which.
Imagine if Icerazor could act like a short term/lesser Frost Spirit lel

Function skills
Citadel Bombard should be reduced to 30.

Orders from Above feels fine, but I wouldnt mind a drop to 25

The Utilities are mostly okay, though I feel like Icerazor having Chill instead of Cripple would synergize better with Mallyx’s abyssal chill trait.

Beyond the obvious issue with spirits being murdered/CC’d easily, its not too bad.

Euthymias.7984

They are not spiritual nor do they embrace concepts like the mists. The charr have always been a techno-industrial race who cast out their spiritual leanings due to the stigma placed on the flame legion.

Think of the Mists like the Force in Star Wars. You dont have to believe in it to still be a part of it; the Force exists everywhere, it binds all things together. Even the slightest touch or action between beings within it can leave ripples or echoes throughout that can affect many.

Sweeping changes or tragedies can leave an impression on the Mists, not unlike a Wound in the Force. Shiro’s treachery sowing great ruin, Jalis calling upon the Great Dwarf to stave off Destroyers for hundreds of years, Mallyx’s rallying of all demons and margonites in the RoT in conquest, Ventari’s imprinting of knowledge on an entire race, Kalla’s Rebellion against the Shaman Caste and the changes that came of it?

All leave behind an impression that echoes through those touched by it.

In this context, Revenants are Force Sensitives – They are able to perceive these great Echoes through the Force and channel aspects of it in the manifestations of these Legends. – the “source” of the Echo.

If Charr were only as you say, then they may as well not become Revenants in the first place, lel. It wouldn’t stop any other race with that profession from perceiving Kalla, though.

Just because they dont have gods to worship doesn’t mean that they dont have revered legendary figures. For the Norn, its Aesgier and Jora, to them, its Pyre and Kalla (among others).

This is a good start.
Fixing Hammers and buffing Shiro’s output is excellent (though I dont think its anywhere close to condi Revenant damage yet….), and there are some good Jalis/Retribution add ins.

Now, what we really need is to make MH sword function better when multiple targets are around and something to address how we cleanse conditions. I was really hoping that they would make Steadfast Rejuvenation something very similar to the new Nefarious Momentum, where using a Dwarf skill can cleanse conditions, and using any other legendary stance skills could also do it to a lesser extent with a small ICD.

Heck, maybe changing Charged Mists in Invocation’s GM to convert conditions into Boons (or just straight up cleanse…) when swapping legends below the Energy threshold (10 per condition) might have helped a little.

Euthymias.7984

Utility Skills:

- Protective Solace: Fixed a bug with this skill’s tooltip displaying the incorrect radius.
Inspiring Reinforcement: This skill has been unsplit from PvP, reducing the energy cost of this skill from 35 to 30 in all game types.
– Vengeful Hammers: Added a third hammer and reduced damage by 33% to preserve approximate damage per second. Changed the base function of this skill so you can no longer lose projectiles as a result of passing too close to uneven terrain. This skill has been unsplit from PvP, using the increased healing values in all game types.
- Energy Expulsion: Increased the duration of fragments created by this skill from 5 seconds to 10 seconds.
- Enchanted Daggers: Increased damage by 20%.
- Riposting Shadows: This skill now grants 6 seconds of fury when activated.
- Impossible Odds: This skill now grants 10% increased damage for its duration in addition to its existing effects.
- Jade Winds: This skill now inflicts 6 stacks of vulnerability for 6 seconds on each foe struck, in addition to its existing effects.
- Soothing Stone: This skill now grants 5 seconds of retaliation when used, rather than scaling retaliation based on the number of conditions removed.

Traits:

- Abyssal Chill: Fixed a bug that affected how this trait displays its torment skill fact.
– Nefarious Momentum: Increased the might granted when using an assassin-stance skill from 2 to 3 stacks. This trait now grants 2 stacks of might for 10 seconds when using a nonassassin stance skill.
– Mutilate Defenses: This trait now has a chance to inflict vulnerability when you critically strike rather than on any strike. The chance to inflict vulnerability has been increased from 25% to 33%, and the duration of vulnerability has been increased from 4 seconds to 6 seconds.
- Empowering Vengeance: This trait has been reworked and renamed Vicious Reprisal. Vicious Reprisal increases the duration of retaliation applied to you by 50% and causes your attacks to do 10% increased damage, granting 1 stack of might for 8 seconds as long as you have retaliation.
- Improved Aggression: This trait has been split and now increases taunt duration by 100% in PvE and 25% in WvW and PvP. It now also grants 2 seconds of retaliation when taunting a foe.
- Versed in Stone: This trait now also converts 13% of your Toughness into Power.
- Determined Resolution: This trait has been reworked and now reduces the damage you take while you have stability by 15%, and increases the duration of stability you apply by 33%.
- Hardened Foundation: This trait has been reworked and now grants up to 120 Toughness, converting 7% of your Toughness into Healing Power.
- Natural Abundance: Increased the duration of fragments from this trait from 5 seconds to 10 seconds.
- Hardening Persistence: Fixed an issue in PvP where this trait was not granting the proper amount of Toughness when using Facet of Light.
- Planar Protection: This trait now casts Dome of the Mists when you use your healing skill in addition to when you take falling damage. Increased Dome of the Mists’s recharge from 5 seconds to 20 seconds.
- Envoy of Sustenance: This trait no longer grants boon duration. It now grants up to 240 Concentration at level 80.
- Venom Enhancement: Increased the poison application of this trait from 1 stack to 2 stacks.
- Focused Siphoning: Increased damage dealt by 20%.
- Malicious Reprisal: This trait now triggers when you block an attack as well as when your attacks are blocked. The unblockable attacks from this trait now deal 25% increased damage. This trait has swapped positions with Jade Echo and moved to the Master tier. Reduced recharge from 30 seconds to 20 seconds.
- Assassin’s Annihilation: Increased damage dealt by 20%.
- Enduring Recovery: This trait no longer grants a chance to recover endurance every 10 seconds when struck. Instead, it now grants a constant 25% increased endurance recovery, as long as the trait is equipped.
– Jade Echo: This trait has swapped positions with Malicious Reprisal and moved to the Adept tier. Renamed the skill fired by this trait to Lesser Jade Winds.
– Assassin’s Presence: Increased the Ferocity bonus granted by this trait to 225 at level 80.
– Dwarven Battle Training: The chance to apply weakness has been increased to 100%.
Dismantle Fortifications: This trait now grants 5 stacks of might for 5 seconds when you attempt to disable a foe with stability, in addition to its previous effects.
– Steadfast Rejuvenation: Increased the chance for healing to occur to 100%. Increased healing by 25%.

Thoughts?
Personally, I’m just relieved that its mostly buffs all around.

Revenant
Inspiring Reinforcement felt lacking in its stability generation because you still had to wait for the skill to complete before gaining stability. We’ve changed it to immediately grant stability to the caster so you have the opportunity to prevent crowd control before it lands. The Retribution trait line’s identity was centered around Sustain and was somewhat lacking in synergy; a couple trait reworks here are intended to create some interplay with retaliation and stability. The Devastation line and the Legendary Assassin stance have been about Power damage and seizing initiative, and we’ve pushed a few modifications here to help Power builds and offer revenants more control on when their traits come into play.

Weapon Skills:

- Hammer Bolt: Fixed a bug that allowed this skill to hit foes beyond its maximum range.
- Echoing Eruption: This skill now leaps to a target, if there is one. Increased the leap distance traveled by 25%. Fixed a bug causing this skill to display the incorrect range
- Shackling Wave: Increased damage by 66%. This attack now inflicts 8 stacks of vulnerability for 5 seconds. The range has been increased from 300 to 450.
– Grasping Shadow: Increased damage by 25%. The fury duration has been increased from 6 seconds to 8 seconds.

They are going to fix core revenant...

I want to believe, but it’ll probably go like this:

What I want:
Jalis/Shiro improvements
Better synergy between traitlines
Rework Retribution
Energy management options
Bug fixes
Making Sword less crap against multiple enemies

What I expect:
A few traits buffed that barely ever gets considered, but still not enough to be relevant
Adding a new effect to a skill that does little beyond some very specific situation/gamemode
CoR nerfed by 10~20% in damage, Hammer falls out of use.
No useful fixes to the bugs
No meaningful weapon skill reworks
No energy management changes
Rolling Mists nerfed

A Glint nerf somewhere for good measure
I hope I'm wrong

-Stuff-

1. Both created a revolution that changed the status quo of Charr society. Hers was built atop what he began.

2.-"Pyre Fierceshot’s default weapon is a max customized blue Stoneshard Hornbow "
-It was never implicitly mentioned what Kalla’s profession was.
-They could just as easily slap a Shortbow on if he were chosen all the same, as Rangers could use them way back when.

3. There’s nothing wrong with them giving us a condition weapon that’s ranged (its something that was asked for many times) but that doesn’t have much to do with Shiro/Glint’s issues or that of our core weapon functions beyond how they interact with the new ESpec or any revamps to come tomorrow.

Euthymias.7984

That’s all fine and dandy for Charr heroes. But what really makes them special? At the end of the day…they were still just Charr. The thing all the other Legendary aspects have in common is they’re beyond just regular people. Jalis became the great stone dwarf. Shiro was a general of abaddon and responsible for the jade wind cataclysm. Glint was a Dragon. Malyx a margonite Lord. Ventari….basically responsible for cultivating the Sylvari.

>They were just Charr
Ventari was just “a peaceful centaur who had a human companion that found a blighting tree seed” and he still became a legend because of his imprinting of virtues on the Sylvari race being so profound.

Likewise, Pyre and Kalla’s rebellion, though they were both just soldiers, both had MASSIVE cultural shifts for their own specific race in a profound way. Just as Ventari (and his friend to a much lesser extent) is revered among the Sylvari, those two are hailed among the Charr for their contribution to what they have become.

You dont have to be an otherworldly kitten or Prophetess to leave a great echo in the Mists, though it surely help their case of being “heard”.

Kalla Scorchrazor? Really?

in Revenant

Posted by: Euthymias.7984

Euthymias.7984

No.
Also, the other Especs (Firebrand, Scourge) are supposedly themed over the idea of rebellion (against Joko/the current rule) and the likes of Kalla do fit in with that “renegade” theme. She did her part in the rebellion against the Flame Legion caste (the Charr rulers of the time), so it does make sense thematically that among others of a similar inclination, that she is included.

However, I would have preferred it to be Pyre seeing that he helped spark this rebellion and the “Charr need no gods” philosophy in the first place (and we ARE going after a God, which would be a perfect way to “exercise” that motto), while his Grandcub was a part of the crescendo of what he set in motion. Even his memorial says that the Charr owe everything they are to his actions…why his Granddaughter was chosen over him, I cant quite grasp.

Turai was known for defeating Joko, yes, but imo he was far better known for his hunt for (and failing) ascension during his pilgrimage, but staying behind to help others reach ascension as a ghost All while his line eventually fell into servitude with Joko after his passing and Joko's subsequent second takeover or doing other kitten able things like Varesh and Nightfall.

Euthymias.7984

From the aspect of Roaming , I’d (personally) suggest Druid over Revenant as things currently stand. Its got great survivability and mobility for it. Scrapper can be pretty useful roaming and in small groups too due to how durable they are and the support they can provide.

In WvW, Revenant does fairly well in Zergs by providing frontline Resistance/Rite of the Great Dwarf for damage mitigation, or spiking in the back line with Coalescence of Ruin from Hammer if you’re into rolling with a group, while also providing might/fury/swiftness passively with Glint. Some even use Ventari to support with healing, which is pretty decent as well. All in all, Revenant does much more in a group than as a solo roamer.

Raids/PVE/Fractals?
I’d say Druid as it offers unique buffs and reasonable DPS (condition) for the latter. Engineer’s an option if you want something more complex, as they have a wide array of skills and kits to employ (though it can make rotations difficult to manage without some practice)

Revenant also handles well enough in Fractals as well if you’re focused on playing one for that content.

Keep in mind that an expansion is coming and there is a lot that will likely change VERY soon.

>Sword
-AA is fine
-Sword 2 should only focus your target. It will still keep the benefit of singling out a foe, but will at least give you some control over who to focus when there are other objects/minions/enemies around. If they really want it to hit more than one thing, just make it “Pierce” anything within range between you and the target if needed. You shouldn’t need OH Sword just to make MH Sword work better.

-Sword 3 should only focus your target, but maybe make it “cleave” anything close (like 180 radius) to them to punish stacking up. It also needs to be affected by Quickness.

>OH Sword
Sword 4 is perfect as is.
Sword 5: Redesign it. Stab and mark your target. The skill then flips to a 600 pull towards you that can be delayed up to 5 seconds before going into Cooldown.

>OH Axe
Perfect.

>Staff
Mostly fine…

>Mace
Just make Skill 3 a skillshot.

>Hammer
CoR does its damage in pulses, crippling and doing half of it on the first and doing the final half on the second

What Is The Point of Revenant?

in Revenant

Posted by: Euthymias.7984

Euthymias.7984

Its most definitely the nerfs that’s been a horrible blow to the profession.

The increase in energy costs on top of cooldowns for Shiro have gutted its mobility and evasiveness massively, and its not like it offered exceptional DPS in the first place.

Jalis is better, but:
-It NEEDS a rework to how Hammers work if they cannot do something about the terrain stopping it.
-RotGD needs to have Versed in Stone’s effect baseline and have said GM trait remove 2 conditions when using an Elite skill with an ICD. Remove the Stun Break.
-Inspiring Reinforcement…just get rid of the road, add a stunbreak, and make it a radial AoE effect that provides a stack of Stability (and maybe some small healing if you break Stun/Daze/ect) on use

Ventari’s fine to a degree, though I wish it had a bit more personal sustain.

We’re supposed to be a jack of all trades, but while we do a little of everything, we dont do any one of those things well enough to be considered viable for any of those jobs or roles beyond a small amount of instances, like Ventari/Mallyx being healers/resistance-providers in WvW.

Kalla looks like it may have a shot at providing some sought after boons (Kalla’s Fervor, Alacrity) and hopefully competitive condition DPS, but time will tell if it will actually do those things well enough to matter.

I’m looking forward to the Renegade from what we’ve seen of it so far.
I think that Icerazor’s utility could have done a second of Chill instead of Cripple for some synergy with Mallyx’s Abyssal Chill, though.

A change like that would make things a bit better and its been asked time and time again, but its just not happening, it seems.

If only Quickening Screech was a self-buff for the pet (beyond Beast Mastery traits that share buffs) that gave it 3s of Quickness on a 25s cooldown.

There is no reason why Crystal Hibernation should root you after the healing nerf ages ago. The GM trait Soothing Bastion is also garbage. Maybe if it cleansed conditions while pulsing or just had more utility like a Chrono’s/Warrior’s blocks it would be useful, but really – I’d rather take OH Sword’s movement while blocking most of the time to avoid getting smacked with unblockables while sitting still and re-positioning while defending.

It also costs less Energy, and has a shorter CD.

I can agree with SotM/EM having a Whirlwind-like target, though I’d want it especially for the latter since its kind okittenward to use currently.

Poll : What will fix ranked pvp

in PvP

D is the dealbreaker in the long run.
We need more balance updates. Once a month, some small adjustments can be made here and there – if they’re favorable, keep them for the long run, and if not, roll them back after a month of “testing” passes. I’d rather take gradual changes where they may be needed than waiting 3 months for sweeping changes that could be for better or (much) worse.

Speaking of, we also need more developer interaction on this front. If we’re going to make suggestions, we need to know what their perspective on a profession is, and at least an understanding of what goal they may be seeking when it comes to the next set of adjustments so we can streamline our input on the matter.

Also, another Ranked Game Mode is needed. Something that’s not a point capture game. Some suggested Deathmatch, but there are surely other things they could try.

PvE:
Once you unlock Glint, you’ll be using it with Shiro/Mallyx. Condi works okay in some PvE areas like SW or the HoT zones where mobs tend to move more, and it does fine in fractals/raids too, but Power is best for trash mobs and such.

“Rotation” is just Auto Attack with some Sword 2 thrown in here and there, maybe using Shiro’s quickness+AA if you feel like swapping. Otherwise you upkeep Glint’s facets till your energy runs out (use the Swiftness and Might one for extra damage off CD). Oh, and Staff (which should be your OH most of the time) has Surge of the Mists (skill 5) that destroys boss breakbars, so use that when possible.

PvP: Goes either way. Mallyx’ condi pressure, group resistance, and boonstrip can make it a decent team-fighter while Shiro gives additional mobility to chase enemies or +1 better. You’ll likely have to use either with Glint.

Ventari’s an option if you want to Bunker and explode the tablet to annoy people.

WvW: Glint+Mallyx for Buffs and Resistance spam with Pain Absorb really helps groups push through the waves upon waves of condi AoE and gives others time to cleanse and/or counter. Shiro is alright for roaming. Jalis can grant further damage reduction if your group already has a Mallyx Revenant dedicated to pulsing resistance.

Is The Meta nothing but damage?

Been playing some matches as a Support engie healing and what not but is the meta or PVP nothing but burst damage and Condi? and is worth going as a Healer?

Roles like those have been relegated to stuff like Auramancer Tempest and to a lesser extent, Druid and Ventari Revenant.

We need more meta level support builds

Regarding Druid, If they got the Seed of Life condition removal nerf reverted, I could see Glyphs being an actual option again as utilities for helping in crowd fights with the extra cleansing/healing (and even having a coordinated team blasting the brief light fields left behind for one extra aoe one).

There’s also the possibility of increasing Search and Rescue’s range to 900 but keeping its current CD to help pull the fallen out of fights, because lets face it, 600 range is pretty pitiful for helping anyone in most cases.

>Revenant has never been about Condi

You what?

Revenant’s about invoking the power of different legends to alter your playstyle by having 2 toolkits to build for whatever role you want to play, be it straight power damage (Shiro), Condition (Mallyx), Tanking (Jalis), Healing (Ventari) or Boon support (Glint)

As much as I love Shiro, we can aspire to being so much more than just a power profession, and many before have expressed that Condi would be much better if we had a ranged weapon.; something we can finally get access to. Hell, we might even be able to use Shiro/Kalla in tandem to have an effective Hybrid build if they have reliable synergy with each other.

I also wouldn’t call a Spec we’ve yet to see in action boring and mundane either. Seeing how well it gels with our core specs as well as against the other new ones will be an interesting experience to say the least.

My only disappointment was that it was Kalla and not Pyre Fierceshot, and that Shiro got nerfed far too hard.

Sic ’Em providing Fury while also revealing without the need of a target would be perfect.
It might even have an additional use/option on a Remorseless build like this.
