Please.. can we be allowed to use special characters in our passwords? It’s kinda silly that you can’t use them in such a big game where security is important >< and i’m kinda used to having them >>’’
ah, discussion of 10 dps tactic isn’t as elite kitten showing off ASIDES, i think having bigger instances would make this game more guild orientated and more fun. Right now dynamic events are kinda impersonal and not exactly an exciting activity to rally your guild around. But 5 man groups are really small, so we fall back into our little statics. A compromise would be nice. Having a larger instance that lets more people in to work together, (but not so insane hard that we have to be elitist against all 10 people.) A instance makes us do a guild call to hop in! (anyone played Atlantica Online? like the guild based dungeons in there. You buy the key to open the instance, and it opens it for the whole guild.)
just want to say, you’re a good person for reporting this and sticking up for someone you didn’t even know.
while i DISAGREE with automatic dungeon finding. It would be wonderful if we can have a cross-map, cross-server dungeon viewer that’s an expansion on the existing Looking for group function. Just give us some additional options to what is already in our friend list!
1. Separate this into group looking for members, and members looking for group
2. Content: Be able to select Specific dungeon, wvw map, spvp
3. Comment: Give a short space for special info such as the path, the class types needed, vent required, etc etc
ah sorry to hear others feel woozy from the shaking. Personally, I love it! it adds a extra dimension to the immersive experience. It’s like, the place is shaking! better try to get out of here! xD love it
i’m not sure i understand. Yeah i’ve played games where EPIC end game gear can drop directly for bosses.. at a 0.4% chance… and you had to roll against other people in the group, so 4 months of farming dungeons daily later there’s still no completed set- i just want to /wrist and go do something more worth my while. and now, you get 1/3 -1/5 of a lower piece of armor or weapon with every single unique path run. A full set is about 1380 tokens or 23 runs, another 23 for weapons so 46? Idk if there’s anything compelling about running a dungeon more than 46 times. If you want to do so go ahead for the 26 silvers at the end. But don’t see why this is a problem o.o.
well considering “tank” classes are guardian and warrior. having a support/tank specced guardian or shout/banner warrior is not bad to have in a group. If that group is all pugs, where you can’t be an elitist or assured about “skilled pros,” going w/ a setup that makes the process earlier is a reasonable tactic.
kinda pointless for us to assume, since they never put the bad news in the official patch notes. Just like how they didn’t note the ori spawn cycle changing. We won’t know if they block events after too many repeats. We never know what’s a bug and what’s intentional, because see, if they told us, exploiters will find a way to take advantage!! Everything will go bad if people know how things were intended to be! (how’s my attempt at tinfoiling?)
yeah the spam restriction is pretty silly. I once got restricted when I was linking my friends a set of armor in WVW – did it in normal chat so we can all see, I linked the first 3 items too fast and it won’t let me link the remaining two face palm
@InfiniteRetro.9865 wait, really? No rollback/restore abilities? Heard from friend or customer support? I know they can’t/lack policy to restore Gold if the gem exchanges bugged and ate your gold and didn’t give you gems back, but char restore is kinda basic.
Worth the 60 bucks – for the amount of hours it kept me occupied I would have spent much for shopping.
Was not worth spending more than 60, and same for bf and friends who are normally more frequent with their cs spending.
1. No purchase security/guarantee: no gem/item refund if you misclicked, system bugged, server lagged, etc etc
2. Really bad experience at the start w/ the karma/food thing- lack of uniform policy on dealing w/ people getting 100 golds and way to harsh on one subgroup that took advantage of one of several pricing issues while ignoring the other groups. (In before flame) I’m aware Anet can do whatever they want, but comparing to how other big gaming industries have handled similar issues, the customer policy/treatment is very different.
3. Continued lack of trust and transparency in basic Karma DR timers, Dungeon DR status, etc etc.
Part of the meh is probably due to expectation. you know, guild wars 2, advertised for their emphasis on community building and connecting with friends. Expected them to apply some of that community building between developers and players, yeah…….
That being said. They did a great job with the game itself. Love the classes and the thoughtful details in so many things. I really enjoyed the quirky and humor in gw2. The jumping puzzles, and trollish events (snowball the kids!), the random funky conversations. Gear is super duper easy to get-YAY-, although frustrating experience due to bugs, lack of notices, lack of info..
TL;DR Great game concept and design! Good software!! Would have been worth cash shopping but hammered down by Poor customer relations, unreliable Coding quality, basic checks, balances, controls…. the service side of things.
Thanks Dibrom, ports are indeed free if you’re dead and broke xD
I’m kinda wondering, what happens if you died and you were flat out broke? Where can you teleport to for free? I’ve had close calls before, WvW and buying siege designs and ran out of money to teleport anywhere once I tried to go back to pve zone. Running into town on my lvl 1 Sylvari and took a big fall to my death due to not being familiar w/ the multilvl layout. First time I had my bf bail me out, second time I was lucky and had just enough coppers to tele back to lion arc – the first place i went to upon getting out of the starting area was heart of the mist-> lion’s arc.
But if some was unlucky and did not have any money, would they be stuck dead forever? o.O
female asura armor is HIGHLY disappointing. most of it is a straight copy from the male set, there’s no way to tell that my character is female. From an Asura mythology point of view, if I was an real Asura female, and the devs gave me these clothes, I would be highly offended and throw the clothes right back at them. Just because the human and Norns are bigger than us, it doesn’t make our race all children. Asuras have just as much a right to their culture and physiology as any other race. Female asuras, as any race, should have distinguishing characteristics to woo the opposite race. It would be highly offensive to a real female asura that she should be regarded as asexual and be made to wear male clothing. Ew >> Now, there are several ways to implement this, female asuras dont’ need to have boobs. They can maybe have skirts or glittering crystal or metallic jewelry made from their advanced technology. They can have more feminine patterns on their armor, or female ones tend to be more colorful. The designs of the skirts don’t have to be sexy, it can be cute. If you need more ideas, look at Non-western cultures. In other cultures there are plenty of examples to being cute w/o showing any body parts or having certain body portions. Sheesh.
same i have variable node reset too, some resets while most don’t.
why are you transferring servers to run dungeons? Just go to lion’s arc and ask for group, lion arc chat is cross servers. You can also join guild even if you’re not on the same server. no need to xfer at all.
to the poster that said others games don’t ban for GOLD BUYING, they do. Aion, in recent memory, has banned plenty of players for buying gold. A persistent and sincere player can get their accounts unbanned, but stripped naked and goldless. Repeat offense is perma ban. i’m not claiming it’s a perfect solution, because i see plenty of gold spammer and bots in aion still, but it’s not true that other MMOs don’t ban for gold buying. Other games did so too (2moons for another example).
ah ty for this post, same concern as myself. Originally I looked at the items from the shop and felt that the karma and magic find boost were probably the 2 times i’ll keep buying because the char slots and stuff once you open them once you’re done. But then I realized w/ magic find boosts = boom I get item DRed due to full MF set + boost. I’m not sure about the karma booster because I used mine when relog was still effective. But yea what’s the point in getting them now ;/
I feel like halfway reward tokens are always kinda tricky. If you give out too much, people get lazy and don’t bother finishing the dungeon at all, give too little and it doesn’t make that much of a difference. One thing I’ve loved about the new system w/ all the tokens at the end is that more people are willing or at least forced to try. In some instance it works out that we get to experience new things, but on the other hand I’ve experienced the same thing as the OP.
I would love to see
1. Ability to pass group leader. I feel like there should be a star or mark next to the party leader who opened the instance. In other games, when the party leader left the group, the next person who was invited to the group would inherit the leadership, it would be awesome if we can do it here – pass the leadership on to the next member when the leader completely leaves the group.
2. Better boxes and dungeon drop rates. Instead of having more tokens, perhaps devs can look into improving the box and mob drop table? I mean 4 hrs in Arah? you can prob gather/event farm enough karma/gold to just craft a similar exotic in less time with no repair bill. If mobs had better loot and boxes had better loot (perhaps getting better as you get deeper into the dungeon, so people don’t just farm the first area,) then players will feel rewarded as they progress and be able to cover repair bills.
For me it really boils down to, the ele class is fun to play, but it’s just not as good.
Damage: we’re not the DMG class, not the best AOE dmg class. Go defensive- we hit like a kitten where other defensive spec class can still do viable damage. Go glass-cannon- get called a nub and be a liability, and oh yeah other classes can still outdps you.
Due to our lack of defense, we must often back line stuff. Every class has weapons that allows them to backline, but we sort have to. In many situations, it’s better to have classes that has the hp or defense to dps and front line a little.
Support:
Staff is the recognized healer/support although I’ve also done D/D and S/D.
Our support is divided into CC, Condition remove, Heals
CC: Yes we have a few slows and fields and what not. Keep in mind several other classes have similar things w/ their bubbles and fields. and many others can aoe root and what not. So we’re not special in that but it IS useful. I personally like D/D for heavy mob packs because it has more slows and shocks and interrupts. But compare to a guardian, that can pull the mobs and hold the agro, is a much better way to control mobs in a coordinated team.
Conditional remove:
Yes we have 1 condition remove/regen on long CD (same for staff and D/D), 1 extra personal conditional remove on D/D- but should have this on ur utility or heal already anyways. Guardians on the other hand, can spec for much better condition remove. One thing elementalist just don’t have is damage mitigation, where as guardians can do that, and so can mes
Heals:
staff – 1 big heal w/ condi remove, 1 heal that requires ur group member to step into this little tiny circle and stop kiting/mitigating more damage. D/D has slightly better mobile healing because ur water #2 can be used on the move. But then u have a situation where ur melee ranged as a support class. Heal skills also no longer affect Downed players. So as a squishy support class, have fun jumping in there to ress downed instead of being able to skill heal them. O yes can’t forget about the #1 water staff heal right? lets get everyone to stand all close together right? right.
Damage mitigation: we don’t have much in the way of group damage mitigation. Support wise, being able to reduce incoming dmg for the group is as important as healing them back up. compare to guardians – blocks, dmg reductions, area denies. Granted, ele do have trait skills that carry some boons to our allies. But recognize that the range on these, similar to our staff speed buff, has really short ranges. Hence, reducing mobility and applicability.
I just don’t have ele to be better as a dps or as a support. we are a weak class. This is unfortunate because it’s such a fun class to play. on paper, the combos, and synergy, the everything is so interesting. And yes, you can practice hard to be really skillful and people will tolerance you and be ok w/ you in the group. Personally i’ve thankfully never experienced being kicked from a group just for being an ele. then you try a diff class and apply the same level of skill and dedication, and people worship you, add you, and if you can come do stuff on that “other” class.
When I put myself in a group situation, and start looking at how I can be a useful and vital part of that group? Support- i rather take a guardian, DPS – warrior (there’s ur semi tank, powerhouse DPS, and can be a tanky support), other classes that shines in a group – mesmer.
I want to love my ele, I really do. But all these shiny skills just feels hallow in their effectiveness combined w/ our low hp and defense (even w/ dedicated defensive set and heal set). Feels like only place I can go shine is by going to Solo a lower lvl dungeon or something, only place where jack of all trades and master of none actually works out.
The OP makes a number of assumptions which I find could use some rethinking
Assumption 1: Speed runners are bad players.
OP talks about how he doesn’t want to speed run through but the group does, and “they get downed constantly when we do stop to fight anything” Do you mean, when they had to stop mid-train because 1 member of their party refused to run through and thus was unprepared? People who speed run can be skilled players or players who need improvement. Teamwork and communication probably will help in having better coordination and survival. A good group speed running will probably be even faster than a pug group speed running. Although since you like your dungeons long, you probably don’t wouldn’t want that anyways.
Assumption 2: Clearing trash makes you more pro
I’m kind of confused, players that enjoy clearing unrewarding boring trash mobs > players that don’t? what kind of logic is that? In my experience in static groups that gets better and better, increasingly we become better in knowing which mobs to skip and distinguish it from which mobs can be killed fast or has high potential for being a hinderance for people running back. In other games i’ve played, trash mobs in dungeons have a much better loot table than mobs outside, but doesn’t seem to make a difference in GW2. So it’s perfectly natural for people to want to skip them.. From the OP’s post, his problem is that people are skipping too many or the wrong mobs that might kill respawners. Sounds more like a communication and teamwork issue, if you’re running w/ all pugs that don’t really care if you can get back safely.
Assumption 3: Skipping trash mobs is exploiting
It’s become a joke amongst friends and guildies, that anything and everything that’s faster, more effective, or smarter, even if done within the normal mechs of the game can get called an exploit in GW2. Awesome culture of distrust and belittlement.
Skipping mobs is not an exploit, it’s a strategy play. The parts that are required are the ones that are part of the quest chain needed to progress through the instance. I agree w/ the OP that certain mobs, it’s more effective to just kill them. Once again this boils down to team work- communicating and agreeing with a strategy that fits your team’s style. If you’re going to give the line that Anet intended for us to clear all the trash, I’ll give u the line that Anet didn’t intend for pugs to complete the dungeons, so why are u going in w/ pugs and without an agreed upon course of action anyways.
You don’t realize how weak elementalist AOE damage is until you play other classes
^this. Lots of eles i know have switched to warrior- and loving how they provide a better aoe. Eles only outDPSes on large unmoving objects with a big surface area for aoes.
so:
we can’t heal as good as guardians
we have lower hp pool than other classes
we can’t DPS as good as many others classes
we can’t AOE as good as warriors
we can’t crowd control as well as well, few other classes
I loved my ele. Playing on an ele is really fun, and the skills are interesting. I got almost all the weapon combo and developed different methods for different situations. I thought hey, I’m doing alright in groups for wvw or pve. Then I played other classes, and realized that putting the same amount of effort into, say, my warrior, made me awesome, whereas my ele is “alright.” Fact of the matter is, when it comes to contributing and pulling my weight, i’m finding my ele sadly lacking. At the end of the day, all these interesting skills (which continues to get nerfed) doesn’t get the job done as well as other classes.
Ori nodes not showing up as minable - Friend showed me spawns I see a ruined base like I mined it but I haven't, can mine 2 out of 5
Posted by: Eve.1029
Yes bugged for me too. the nodes do respawn but i think i had to wait 12hrs+ for them to do so. Would really appreciate an official word on this. Do anyone besides moderators even read this section?
yeah i ran COF all 3 paths on my warrior right after the 8pm reset, 60/60/60.
then like um 6 hours later, i ran path 1 and 2 on my ele*, received 60/60.
I’ll test again tonight
(edited by Eve.1029)
a separate UI would be nice, suggested this in another post
http://i.imgur.com/iTGL6.png
something like that
I’ve been testing it and it’s pretty generous already. You can get the 60 tokens on two characters for any single path. That means if you were farming a single dungeon you can get 60×6=360 tokens in just 6 runs. Previously 360/20=18 – you would of had to do 18 runs to get that many tokens – which is more than what most sane or slightly insane people would do anyways. Just switch to a new dungeon after your 6, and you can work on getting another 360. And if it REALLY bothers you, just wait 1 hour and do the same path, and you can get the normal 20, which was the old going rate at which many people got their gear.
There are 24 hours in the day, and it looks like this for about a quarter of it. Obviously it’s because JQ and SBI is just baddies who lack organization and need to try harder, nothing to do with unbalanced night time crews. sarcasm
I’m not sure what games you were playing, but my experience have been is that every new game comes out- it’s easier and easier to grind/level/gear.
First long term mmo I played: Flyff- grind at end is 0.5% of your level per hour. Best gear is RNG due to enchant system. Gear breaks on fail enchant.
next: 2moons- pvp while grinding tokens for hours a day for a 30 min window of pvpve instance 3 times a day. lvling is a little faster? like 15% a day I think. Best gear= RNG due to enchant system. Gear break on fail enchant
Atlantica online? A game revolved around guild dungeon grind, daily dungeon grind, mob grinding for materials. – had an AWESOME tournament system though.
few years later: aion, lvling like 10% of a level per hour at the very beginning when lvling was called “tough.” Gearwise: three – four month of 1-2hr dungeon every single day for Most of your pieces-no guarantee due to RNG. To enchant your gear to best- boat load of money, may never get it +10. No gear breaking at least for fail enchant. For each new set that comes out it’s 3-4 months effort for the hardcorers, 6 months + for the mid roaders.
and now: Guild wars 2: leveling is 1 level per 1.5 hrs. Gearing to best gear: One week.
I know that’s not true for everyone, but since the gearing rate I gave for the other games i listed are for hardcore players, this rate is a hardcore player rate too. (180 in 1.5 hr for dungeon bonus, play 5 more hours for 100 more tokens spaced out 1 run per hour with event farming in between. Sell loot to buy runes/sigils. That’s 280 tokens a day – 1 piece a day) No enchanting to draw out the pain.
You didn’t want grind? you don’t have grind in gw2. What you’re not accustomed to, is having too much time on your hands where you’re not forced to continue grinding. Go WvW, Spvp, exploring, organizing events w/ guildies.
The bomb part is defendable now. So have your group Kill the waves for as long as possible before you start kiting. Focus on the SmokeLord first. And then any other ranged mobs that spawn. By the time you have to start kiting, it’s all melee mobs which makes it much easier.
As a sin, get your dodges and blinds. Also your group stealth- for stealth on Magg if you’re the only person left in the room, buy some time for ur members to walk back.
Ignore the witchhunter crybabies who pronounce everything an exploit. They don’t even know what that word means. Bots are the only problem, but a big group of people traveling and moving from event to event like… a group? or a guild? in a game called: guild wars? I don’t see the problem. This game takes the grind out of the grind by making it easy to meet people and do things together. Grinding for hours and hours would bore me to death. But follow a zerg, crack some jokes in map chat, and the hours just disappear.
Reason for secrecy about the DR system
First off, I understand the secrecy about the DR system. Assumption: the more information players have, the more likely they are to figure out a way around it. Assumption: the only way to fix/stop exploiting is when players stay ignorant about how they are suppose to be rewarded for their efforts. These are reasonable assumptions, but flawed. I understand that there’s no such thing as a “perfected” game. There will always be bugs and players w/ their much bigger population and pooled time availability, will always find more loopholes than you can patch.
However, there are more imaginative fixes than “hey lets not tell them anything.” How about, lets look at like to fix this better? Case in point: Magg path in CoF. Patch after patch, people find a way to jump over, and log on alts to collect rewards too. Beautiful solution: can’t attack the final boss until the mag path is done. First, even if you did jump over it wouldn’t do you any good. And you can’t even log on alts because you have to do the real fight. Two loopholes fixed w/ one change.
Similarly, there’s no shortcuts or loopholes for stopping bugs or exploits. Sorry, but you guys are still going to have to fix things for real. Not giving info on the DR system did not fix Mag path exploits, a real fix to the last boss and making mag walk back did. A lack of transparency only makes legit players rage and non-hardcorers give up in frustration.
Industry Standard
GW2 is not the first MMO and it won’t be the last. And unfair as it may be, you will be compared to other games, and expected to perform similarly or better because you’re newer. That doesn’t just mean innovative fights, it also mean a solid UI. It’s the little details and the way the interface works that signals something that’s newer, shinier, and better.
It’s industry standard to let players know how they will be rewarded, how much, and when. A dungeon status check in MMOs have been around for ages. Once again, not unreasonable to have a status window letting you know if you’re speed running too fast, how many rewards you will receive if you run a certain path again, and when the reset is. See the other NCSoft title, Aion, for a straight forward and useful implementation of this feature. So please, bring your UI up to par, take the guesswork out of this.
Motivating Players to Break your System
What happens when thousand of players are given no information about an aspect of the game that is important for their character’s gearing, looks, or legendary crafting? We try to find out, by testing things in whichever way we can, by trying different things. And if we come across bugs or unexplained diminished rewards because there is no transparent information? We try to get around it. See how that works? So the less transparent you are, the harder you make the players work to find out that information for themselves, the more likely they are to find loopholes and exploits. Stop treating us like we’re all stupid cows too dumb or lazy to figure things out. I expect that line of thinking from forum trolls, not experienced devs and community managers.
How Transparency and Cooperation Works
Ever go to a team working event and tell your teammates they’re shady kittens who are uncooperative and cannot be trusted? How much cooperation and honestly do you usually get back when you take that approach? In my experience, if you treat people like pieces of kitten, that how they tend to treat you.
In this relationship, you, the developers, and we, the players, have a common goal to make dungeons a great experience. This works alot better if we feel like we’re treated like respectable and valuable human beings. You be upfront about how things are suppose to work, and the community returns the favor by being prompt and transparent about bugs and exploits that we find. The relationship between a gaming company and the players plays a significant part in how good a game is. The relationship is just as much part of the equation as how pretty your graphics are or how balanced your dungeons are. Tell us how things are suppose to work, so we can support you in making it work.
tl:dr Lack of transparency leads to more frustrated legit players and doesn’t make motivated players too stupid to figure things out. It’s counterproductive and a lack of dungeon status is out of fashion with the times.
i can’t find anything in the patch notes telling us how the DR system is currently working. I wish there was more transparency. Once again we’re left to fumble about in the dark.
1. is there a penalty for speed runs, and how long is the penalty
2. how is DR shared across characters
3. is the daily reset still at 8pm est or 5pm server time.
amongst all the ncsoft games i’ve played, this game has the least transparency about how things are suppose to work.
I would like a menu thingy, where u can select the dungeon u’re recruiting for, the path (or select any path), and a personal message that’s short.
other players can browse through it and whisper or apply. Beats spamming in lion arc and getting muted. Btw, being treated like a bot happens in a dungeon that doesn’t require cooperation. That’s not gw2 dungeons.
For the torch part, there is 3 mobs guarding each torch w/ very fast synched respawn. What you can do it, kill 2/3 mobs and then it’s very easy to kite the third one by hopping around it. Give ur soft DPS a few second head start and it should be easy to sync the kills and give longer period for it.
AFTER that however, u need plates or a group that’s comfortable killing big waves of zergy mobs – need Aoes and Heals here. After that if you have a mesmer that’s pro at running and dodging stuff it would be fantastic.
ok just completed another dungeon on a char that use to be perma DRed. Confirmed that character is now correctly getting 60 bonus tokens for first unique path run of the day. I think the DR is fixed? But the DR is now shared across characters. Meaning it doesn’t matter which char u use, it’s like using the same one.
well the good news is, the magg room appears to have gotten easier post patch.. There’s just as many mobs as there were before. But there are less ranged mobs. So you can kill the ranged mobs and the first few waves, focusing on the ranged mobs. Then when you get overwhelmed, start kiting the now melee heavy mobs, which is much easier to do.
yeah i experienced same thing no 45, just straight to 30. 60 60 (i think?) 30 15 (might have been speed run DR, last 2 were cof)
yes i do realize that the intent was to kill the mobs. and I have tried the kill mobs method before. You mostly succeed w/ a good group, and only have to kite the last 20 seconds. however, i don’t always have the luxury of putting such a group together, so.
So here’s the main DR system: the DR is now applied across the account to all of your characters. No matter what character you use.
First dungeon run -60, 2nd -30, 3rd – 15 – each time alternating characters. Same path, did not try new paths yet.
So if you have two or more characters you are gearing, they will not be able to get their own daily bonuses.
Will add to this post once i test multipaths and different dungeons.
edit: now i think about it, it’s still weird. why did i get 30 on my 2nd char? if the bonus is already collected I should have received 20 not 30.
edit 2: my friend received 60 30 60 30 o.O
(edited by Eve.1029)
Its just as bad the other way around too. My guild was doing this the other day, we had 4 people, so we pug the last. Before we even reach the room, the pug dude had already glitched through it. We tell him we’re not going to exploit it. After hearing a big rant and several cuss words from him, we attempt it, and our first time fails.
He tries to get us to do a DIFFERENT exploit. And then another. When we refuse, another rant full of every cuss words in the book. We kick him, and someone from the party goes to pug someone else in Lion’s Arch to finish.
After asking the person if they were ok to do it legitimately, they HESITANTLY accept. We get to the room, they go “Oh, lets just do it <insert obvious exploit here>”. Seriously? Finally we managed to do it 2-3 tries later, but not without a lot of complains from the one pug.
Since there’s no banning threat, people are totally open about it. LFM shouts in lion arch specifically ask for the classes that can exploit it, even describing the exploit.
There’s a reason CoF armor is the most common dungeon armor in the game right now. It really cheapens the experience. Sure, Anet should fix it much much faster, but on the other hand, its pretty sad that 99% of the CoF running player base is exploiting it right now.
yeah i’ve experienced this myself. In my guild group, we’ve pugged the 5th spot, specifically told them we’re doing this legit. So the guy goes through the hole and DPS the last boss anyways, ignoring us telling him to stop. Kicked him and invited another. But in non guild majority groups, it’s lost fight. Ask them to try kiting the Magg room and they’ll say they’ve never successfully like that. Explain to them exactly how to do it. Nicer groups, even when they willing to give it a try, does it wrong by trying to live instead of keeping magg alive. They would run out of the door to reset the mobs all on magg. Once, had a group agree and then their ele ressed magg to the middle of the room. Oy.
(edited by Eve.1029)
woah, why are you all jumping down this guy’s throat about his armor choices? that’s not even the topic. The fact of the matter is, different dungeons give different gear. and that difference makes it hard for his guild to decide on one dungeon together. I think that’s a legit topic o.O meanwhile i do like his idea of running different dungeon for different pieces of gear.
i don’t deny the right of other players to play. But you need to address the demoralizing that comes when we go up against servers that have a strong nightcrew. Because prime time we can be on top, but other side doesn’t even care that we pumping money and have good strats, because they know when we have to go to sleep, they will just get everything back. So you need to do something about night time play, because it makes every strategy or organization pointless. As long as you have a zerg of players in certain time zones, you win.
my suggestion:
1. Adjust the outnumbered buff:
right now the buff gives EXP and Magic find. What good are those if you have 15 players who are being camped at their starting zone by 40+ of the other side???
Instead add these buffs: 3x karma from the siege related dynamic events. 3x silver to cover the 3x repair bill players normally experience at this time of the night. Basically it had better be better than farming in Orr.
2. make the max player size at night smaller. Prime time players have to wait hours to get a queue pop. night crews can deal w/ it too. give the other servers some breathing room so they don’t have to 10v100.
3. Game wide messages. Give some system that can do game wide announcements like a news notification window. This can useful when u have Esports for announcing when important matches are occurring. and also for when there’s commanders on in wvw, or when there’s a good karma buff there due to being outnumbered.
huum do party leader just leave the instance first? or did he also log on another character? I know logging on another char will kick everyone out of the dungeon, but I’m not sure if this also happens if the party leader leaves too early at the finish.
they need to change the way party system works. I’ve had this happen to me as well. Spend hours in a dungeon w/ 10 silvers + in repair bills, just to have the party leader troll us, give up, or leave.
inc before “go with people you know don’t go with pugs.” Well to transition from pugs to people you know, we have to start somewhere. We have to take a chance and group with people we don’t know instead of sitting on our hands right? So join a group, and try a dungeon we’ve never tried before. Obviously at the start it’s going to be slow, a large repair bill, and not everyone in the party can make it to the end. Problem is, if one of the people that gave up is the party leader, you can’t even replace that person!
The other day I went to CoE explore mode. It was slow because we had new players that never ran it before but were chill and wanted to learn the dungeon. The party leader, who has ran this before, insisted on a stack together strategy for the last boss which works but requires alot of coordination and fast response to ress downed. Although we made progress towards staying together, moving together, and ressing fast, we still wiped a bunch of times. So the party leader gives up, but the rest of the party still wants to keep trying. But guess what? once the party leader leaves the party, no one new can even get inside dungeon- not even the original party members that left the dungeon to recruit players. Doing dungeons w/ DR bug is already annoying enough, now add this to further make it not worth it.
o please… for weeks from the 5am on, if you go to the maps, particularly borderlands we have that outnumbered buff that gives 30% extras to stuff. Yeah this week we lacking numbers even in prime time because people already know what’s going to happen.
as SBI players, I, and many on the server have mixed feelings about these matchups.
things we liked: the intense pvp and real action that’s challenging. When it was Henge, JQ, v SBI prime time, we were ok w/ that. Sure, alot of times it felt like JQ and Henge were teaming against us. For example henge trebbing us 24/7 at keeps that JQ was trying to take. Always have JQ pushing down on us even when henge is pushing deep into their territory. But we still managed to hold our own and fight tooth and nail. The scores are usually pretty even with us in first or second.
and then… 5am -12pm rolls around… even the night owls have to sleep sometime. Henge just has a full queue throughout the night while our server sleeps. Basically all 3 maps turn henge. So weekdays, we get home from school/work, look on the map – and all our hard work from the night before has disappeared. henge owns everything and has a huge lead. Then we take it all back and recover some of our lead during prime time, but rinse and repeat during the day.
That has been the pattern, and it’s quite discouraging. Because no matter how hard we try and even when we are #1 during the Weekend and during prime time, we do not have enough stay-at-home gamers or oceanic to fill the queues during the weekdays – resulting in us losing all point leads.
and personally, i’m still wondering why SBI and JQ are cat fighting each other and giving henge the opp to get even a bigger lead. 2nd and 3rd place isn’t much to fight over…
face palm the dungeon break has NOTHING to do with what you were intending to do on your alt. As the person that initially OPENED the instance, you triggered the dungeon reset mechanism the moment you logged on another character. the party leader cannot log on another char, simple as that.
I personally love this new system.
1. Communication:
*personal communication among different groups of friends is so much easier. If you’ve played MMOs for awhile, you’re bound to have friends who are in their own guilds to start with. You can easily check who’s online and pop in to say hi or recruit people to group with
*official communication: very valuable tool for alliances. It really helps the smaller guilds that don’t have officers on 24/7. Say several smaller guilds WvW together. Instead of having to PM officers until you find one that’s on, you can pop into their guild chat and ask hey, anyone want to join us?
2. Represent: Need to be active to have active representation
*Abuse prevention: I’ve been plenty of guild abuse/neglect. Guild leaders that never bother logging on while members are ignored. Guild leaders that aggressively recruit new players and demand donations or membership payments. Because they’re pigeonholed into one guild and never seen anything else. You’d be amazed how long people willing to be taken advantage of.
*Guild leaders now have to actively work to keep the loyalty of their members. Wait wait, you mean I can’t just invite someone, expect them to stay in the guild, and that’s it? Well yes. People will represent you if there are plenty of guild activities and officers/leaders who are willing to help. If your members are not representing you need to ask yourself the below questions:
a) Do you know them? As officers/leaders did you make an effort to group w/ these guildies instead of staying w/ your core group? Do you know their name, take the time to say hi, ask them what they need? If it’s someone you took the time to know, then a conversation about representing will go over much smoother.
b) What’s your policy? Some guild do not allow multi rep. Or if they did, they have a policy to represent that guild for a majority of the time. Exceptions for allies. Otherwise, you kick them. So you have to decide for yourself, do you want to have friends of friends in the guild that aren’t representing but might drop in onceawhile to find groups or say hi? One thing to keep in mind is that your guild numbers are inflated. If not enough people rep, you might need to just invite more people. Just have tougher policies once you hit the members cap.
c) What are you doing to strengthen a guild? Slapping a tag on someone just isn’t enough to cut it in gw2. Do you have guild activities? Guild dungeon groups? WvW events? Hide and seek? Do you have a guild leader that’s sociable? Do you have a vent where you actively invite your members to hangout and chat?
d. Are you building the right guild bonuses that makes your members want that tag? Your members will be much less inclined to switch out if they’re missing out on the 10% MF, 10% gather 10% karma bonuses.
Summary: Running a guild no longer stops at /invite, it needs to function like a guild. Guild functions: active guild leadership, active guild activity, a fun place to hang out.
I am in one main guild that i’ve been with for 7 years. Over the course of that 7 years I’ve made many groups of friends that have their own guilds. With GW2’s new system it’s very easy to be guests in your friends’ guilds so you can easily see who’s on and pop in to say hi, and send invites in guild chat to do stuff together. So I’m in multiple guilds of friends that I knew from previous games. They’re all fully aware of what my main guild is, it’s just easier to keep in touch in this way.
