When I started playing guild wars 2, I went thief. Why? I heard it was a class that takes skill and rewards funs. Fast forward to now, I no longer have any desire to play the class. PvE, WvWvW, and PvP are no longer fun. It’s no fun when everything you like doing is taken away. It’s no fun when you’re 1 shot in dungeons. It’s no fun when you have trouble participating in living world events because you can’t get close enough (even with bow) without getting 1 shot.
I know, I’m running a zerg build. Even if I did run full vit and toughness, I’d still be killed in a single hit. Only difference is I wouldn’t get half as much gear/gold/loot. I’m not saying I can’t do these things. It’s just that you have to try quite hard all the time. At first I thought all classes were like this.
I decided to start a necro. Leveling…easy, WvWvW…piece of cake, PvP…Lol can control the battlefield, PvE…Easy tags and survivability but low mobility. After this I started to think the QQers on the forums are BSing about thieves.
I went to warrior. Could’ve been brain dead and played this class. Signets are insanely powerful and accessible from low levels. I would sum up warrior as awesome in everything. Sure they have a few crap weapon sets but they have more weapons than any other class. I won’t go on about every aspect of the class but I will say this: too many passives! Not to mention, warriors cannot complain when a thief isn’t un-stealthed from a back stab. I think most warriors forgot to mention that when they miss their adrenaline attack, they don’t lose any adrenaline (which means I can just use my uber attack again).
I guess I should summarize this post as “hey anet, why the hell are passives so powerful in this game?”. Conditions, signets, food, passive traits.
Thanks for all the info guys. I’ll just have to push what I got now and hope they consider some performance updates.
Boost it from what?
My system will bottom out at 18FPS with a fully queued map fighting MAW, or a moderately large zerg (60~ players) and bottom out at 23-25FPS.
If you are not getting that much, you might want to consider Overclocking your CPU at 4.6ghz or whatever you can stabilize at.
But if that is what you get currently, thats the best you can do. that is the weakness of GW2.
Yeah, I’m not getting anything that bad. About 33fps with 2 huge zergs. It’s really noticeable to me as every other game I play is at 60fps. It seems that the resolution has no impact on fps for me though. I went from 1920 × 1080 to 2560 × 1080, no fps drop. Lol either Anet has to optimize this game more or I’ll have to unlid my proc.
I agree, at first that’s what it sounds like, but I personally never get above 50C on the CPU and GPU never gets over 60C.
When did you upgrade to Win8.1, and did you upgrade to 8.1 from 8 or was it a fresh install. Same question if you upgraded from 7 to 8.
Went from 8 to 8.1 over the top.
There is no such thing as cpu lag. If your cpu had heat issues it would shut down, possibly creating artifacts on the screen. I’ve had cpus overheat on me due to fan failure many times.
This issue you describe sounds like a hard drive issue. When a hard drive is seeking or reading data the cpu remains idle, exactly the same as you are getting. Mechanical issues also cause seek and read times to increase which results in the “lag” you describe.
In order to diagnose the issue you need to get the proper software for your manufacturer. I will list the two major ones below:
Seagate Drives: Seatools
Western Digital: WD lifeguard
Actually the next thing on my list was to try playing the game from a different drive to isolate that possibility. I’ve not run diags on my drive with the manufacturer tools, which I’ll do. Good to hear this feedback, thanks.
There are numerous issues with upgrading to 8.1 with out wiping your drivers and downloading drivers built for 8.1. I HIGHLY suggest uninstalling your GPU drivers, reboot into safemode and run DDU (Driver wiper utility you can download), then boot into normal mode and install the latest stable driver for your GPU built for 8.1
As for the HDD/SDD theory, download CrystalDiskInfo, it will read your raw SMART data. If you see data values in raw read error rate, raw write error rate, Sector Reallocation, and B800000, then you should consider replacing the HHD/SSD. FYI, the B80000 is a faulty Cache module that alot of new HDDs are using to be competitive with SSDs. these HDDs are sold as Hybrid SSDs and have a 2G/4G/6G Cache Model that caches data from your HDD before your Sata controller accesses it.
I had a 500G Hyrbid HDD drop that cache model and nothing that was written to the drive was legible by ANY 3rd party tool. That drive was a total Loss.
Actually you don’t want to use CrystalDiskInto or any other utility that only reads smart data. Why? Read write errors are not an indicator of bad health and these utilities do not know how these drives actually function. Modern disk drives deal with thousands of read write errors without you ever knowing. This is because each hard drive platter has imperfections straight out of the factory. To make matters worse, data size on these devices has only gotten smaller. This means that these tiny imperfections create a larger amount of errors.
These imperfections can get larger over time if the hard disk head hits them, referring to what is called a head crash. This in turn creates a gradual degradation effect in which the drive becomes more and more unreliable.
A little about my rig:
G.skill phoenix pro ii ssd
i5 3570k @ 4.2 Ghz
AMD 7970 Ghz
My Issue: Is there any way to boost performance during large zerg fights. I’ve done all I can on the in game settings side (no shadows, advanced texture filtering off). I’ve realized that this game is largely dependent on the CPU. I saw no frame rate increase when going from a 5850 to a 7970. So the question becomes: how does one improve game performance when I already have one of the best cpus. If this game can’t run well on the high end parts, I can’t hold out for ppl on the low end.
There is no such thing as cpu lag. If your cpu had heat issues it would shut down, possibly creating artifacts on the screen. I’ve had cpus overheat on me due to fan failure many times.

I think it would go a long way to reduce the duration of the blind field. 3 seconds duration, maybe even 2. (I’d prefer 2, black powder is a huge crutch)
6 initiative and 2 sec blind ? You must kidding right ?
BTW All autoattack has 130+ range and Black Powder radius is maybe 110 diameter 220, tell me where is problem ?Its not just about the field, it gives you so much more than that. It takes away any counterplay after leaving stealth, the field lasts longer than revealed does, and it prevents any counterplay of entering stealth. It denies melee’s chances of fighting back at all. The field simultaneously gives you melee immunity and easy access to stealth (which then gives you burst and healing). So yes the duration needs to be decreased to provide smarter play, more risk for the reward. Instead of just using it whenever.
First off it does not deny melee anything. Only an idiot would stand in the bp ring and every class has an imob, knockback, stun, or attack that can hit the thief. 100 blades can hit the entire circle and has a very quick cooldown. 5 on warrior gun will smack the thief out of the field. 4 on thief pistol will stun the thief, preventing stealth. I’m not even going to dip into any pull abilities or necro fear.
It all sounds good on paper, but in reality is exactly what i said it was…… a punishment for the servers who have built a community and worked to get where they are.
Also, the billiards thing is BS. If I spend half of my life practicing my behind off to become an amazing billiards player, go to a tournament and be told I am being given a handicap so that a “new” or “cruddy” player can even compete with me…. i would be irate at best (They should get back to the practice board and work just as much as i had to)….. Any sport that uses a handicap system is only punishing its players and promoting mediocrity.
You’re really going to talk about punishing players and mediocrity when you’re on a T1 server? Players are already being punished by the people who jumped ship to go to T1 servers. T1 servers are also filled to the brim with mediocre players who are using numbers to cover it up. WvW zerg play is probably the least skilled form of combat in this game.
So if you don’t want mediocrity being promoted and players being punished then get out of T1. Until then other measures need to be implemented in order to help the players getting punished back in the fight.
First I am in a guild that runs around 15 to 20 players… 99.9% of the time these are the numbers we run, we prefer to not run entire maps and to be havocy (i.e. split into smaller groups) ……. I dont really feel punished by the bandwagoners as when BG tries we can usually fill maps with WVW guilded players. BUT I will NOT be punished by anet for bandwagoners, or lower teir servers inability to recruit. Especially after I spend over 8+ hours commanding many nights of a season…
NO, I will not leave T1, I am a BG born player and always have been, and definitely not after having put the work I have in to help Blackgate become what it is. A community like ours takes a lot of people; Web Site operators, Team Speak Gatekeepers, Event Organizers, recruiters, leaders, commanders, Line Soldiers, etc……
If anet wants to do anything, they should drop a few of the really low population servers and start balancing out the system……… but lets be honest….. they wont do that LOL………
Low tier server’s inability to recruit? I don’t think you even know what it’s like on a low tier server. I work my butt off every day in WvW, mostly fighting but I do allot of recruiting. You know what most ppl say who I ask if they want to switch to my server? What do I get. Yeah and I can’t really come up with a response. Not only does it cost just as much to transfer to my server (gates of madness) as a tier 1 but no one wants to come to a server just to maybe win on some nights.
Why come to a low pop server when you can just pop on a high tier. The whole system is setup to encourage bandwagoning and your insensitivity to the plight of the low tier servers just continues the arrogance that I see from most T1 players.
I don’t think there should be handicaps but it’s awfully unfair to award high tier servers just for having more ppl. I suspect that you will see even more ppl leaving low tier for the rewards. As if it wasn’t empty enough.
Your suggestion would hurt small groups too, not workable.
I vote fail.
Maybe if the increased the rewards, you would see some ppl from PVE change into WvWers.
This should be titled "warrior’s code’ as your rules basically state that every thief, mesmer, and necro are dishonorable. Although most warriors run just the same when they are losing.
The fact is there is no honor on the battlefield. People will do what they want because they can, deal with it. I nor anyone else is required to indulge you in a 1 on 1, and should use anything to their advantage.
I want to crush the enemy’s spirit, not hold their hands.
Thieves are immobile?
…I’m missing something here. I’m dodging and shadow stepping everywhere when I fight….sometimes my thief is too mobile and I overdoing it…
I daresay my thief has better mobility than my mesmer.
Shadowstep doesn’t work very well in many places, as stated above. It’s useless on stairs, certain bridges, cliffs, and basicly any acute angle or greate degree surface. Thats most of the thieves mobility.
Sanduskel trolls the thief forum all day, every day. It’s wise not to take his advice.
I can only comment on what I know as a thief, which all I do is WvW. In that reguard, it’s been getting worse.
- Shortbow cluster bomb range was nerfed w/o any buff.
- d/p is about to be made irrelevant
- Shadow refuge is also about to be nerfed to hell.
- anti-stealth traps were introduced
- rangers have an anti-stealth ability on their pet
Im sure I’m missing more but this is only for WvW.
Yeah this pretty much makes my d/p SR build worthless in WvW. Not to mention I won’t get any initiative if I want to pop blinding powder to increase stealth length.
This pretty much just makes everything crappy…
Since when did stunbreakers not work on BV? I swear they write “fixed BV so you can break it” in every patch and it doesn’t feel any different. I’ve been breaking out if BV since day one, lol.
No basilisk used to be separately classified. Now it’s just another immobilize skill that takes up an elite slot. Better off using sb with a stealth skill than waste an elite.
As a thief, I can admit that perma stealth with zero hard counters was op’d. those of you who rely on that crutch will have to l2p like the rest of us thieves who took the higher road.
Not a really good thief anyways. No hard counter to perma-stealth? Lets see, stand around black powder circle, thief is forced to heartseeker you. Stand on edge of cliff or against wall, thief can’t backstab you. Immobilize, stun, or fear the thief are also very effective. Pretty much just destroyed your point.
such drama! These weren’t really nerfs.
Are you kidding? Just the basilisk venom nerf alone destroyed half of the d/d builds.
Asura Conundrum Sphere (2 hour cooldown) – Transports the player to the start of a random PvE jumping puzzle.
Also, anybody who resents the ANet techs getting paid for their work, go ahead and try to write a game like this one. Go for it.
If you asked anet techs to rewrite this game, they wouldn’t be able to do it. They prob. only have 1 engine designer onboard still.
Yes and 20k backstab can’t be done period.
Btw, if you have 1k ping and no stun break you’ll take 20k from a zerker mes and alot more than 20k from a zerker war.
You are comparing a 3/4sec BS combo that comes from nowhere with something that hit in your face for like 5-6sec and called it balance? Seriously
First off the thief does not come from nowhere. Most stealth skills have a tell. You see shadow refuge, black power, or a frickin glowing guy and you’ll know. The average BS for a glass cannon thief w/100% crit traited is around 8.3k. This combined with basilisk venom will kill very glassy players. On the other hand, a thief that uses all of the above can be one hit as well, not to mention any turret eng. will destroy him.
Him posting the he might come back does not make him a child. He is simply stating that the game is changing for the worse and that he may come back if things improve.
I doubt this one boss will cause too much damage. Either ANET will nerf him or your server will ignore him. They really need to implement a limit on guesting as well. Most PvE players seem fine by stealing slots in a map for a world boss.
Yeah I can see a loot balancing patch coming up. Not only have they introduced world boss loot imbalance but WvW loot still hasn’t been fixed.
Anyone on this thread suggesting casuals switch gear for ONE FIGHT are obviously not casuals. ANET should know better than to cripple certain builds, hell they say they want anyone to jump in and help. This event is about as newb friendly as a swift kick to the junk.
I pretty sure it’s a limitation of the game. Otherwise there is no reason that this type of encounter should end in this manner. For everything that guild wars 2 has achieved, they still haven’t found a way to make events less binary.
He may not be impossible but the fact that his rewards don’t nearly justify the difficulty means nobody will be doing this event unless they raise the difficulty of everything else as well.
Not to mention, this boss is designed around cheap, old fashioned, game mechanics like high health pool, insta-death, and repetitive periods of loss of control. In reality this boss only offers more of a challenge due to the increase damage, health, and forced coordination. This was the wrong way to approach an open world event.
I wouldn’t mind a stealth counter if and only if they made other builds viable and / or buff the class. I used to play an evade thief and the condition removal is terrible. Unless I slot everything toward removal in that build, I’m dead in the water against most other classes. I’m pigeon holed into playing as a stealth thief if I want the most versatility.
I have a mesmer but I find it boring sitting back. I almost tempted to run a warrior, just because I would have to work so much less to get a kill.
You want us to be targetable in stealth too? You do realize that the thief has already been nerfed enough. Lol thief wouldn’t even be a viable profession anymore if this became a reality. We have sub-par damage, low hp, low armor, low utility, and you suggest a survivability nerf to EVERY thief build.
Yeah must be fun rolling a phant mes, doing 13k on auto. Or a warrior doing 9k. I can do 8k if I’m in stealth, if I crit, and if I hit you in the back. Even traited with +50% speed, a good player can avoid my backstab.
I’m tired of the thieves fundamental mechanic being nerfed over and over. I find it even more amusing that I can stab people in the back all day but all it takes is a hit or two in the front to down me.
Don’t even get me started on the fact that the thief has the smallest weapon selection and no real ranged weapons. Have to use my bow like a kamikaze cuz the range and speed is so bad.
Here are some Ideas I came up with to fix WvW rewards
Contribution System:
– A point based system that incentivises a player’s actions during an attack / defense / Other Activity
Defense
- Below the event timer is the player’s contribution value
- This value indicates how much the player has added to the defense
- Points are given in a manner like WvWxp. Although Developers may choose to not make a floating number on screen as that may get distracting.
The following will increase contribution value ( I will attempt to weigh that value in point of each as well (w) )
– w: 3 Killing an enemy player / npc (same as WvWxp, amount decreases as more players have taped)
– w: 2 Repairing / building (per 10 supply)
– w: 6 Destroying Siege (Enemy must have spent some supplies on it)
– w: 1 Holding an objective (given every 30 seconds)
*Note that holding an objective will be given every 30 seconds, meaning that in longer sieges it will be a large boost to
your contribution points.
- The given reward will be scaled based on those factors. In other words, the more you do, the more you get.
- Leaving the area does not reset contribution value. You can go pick up supplies and come back to it.
- Contribution value will reset when there are no attackers near the area or when the fort/castle is taken or when the event timer runs out.
- Rewards are given out when the timer resets, regardless of whether your side won or lost.
- If possible: The player with the highest contribution gets a bump in their reward.
Offense
Very Similar to defense. everything is the same except for the items specified below.
The following will increase contribution value
– w: 3 Killing an enemy player / npc (same as WvWxp, amount decreases as more players have taped)
– w: 10 siege damage to door / wall (that item must be destroyed to receive)
– w: 4 Regular damage to door / wall (that item must be destroyed to receive)
– w: 6 Destroying Siege (Enemy must have spent some supplies on it)
– Lord drops are kept but reduced. Rewards should now be more distributed thanks to the contribution system
*Note that this system gives rewards for for destroying walls / doors / siege. This means that treb and cata guys will finally be able to get better rewards.
Now onto dolyaks:
- Dolyak rewards will only be rewarded on a successful escort.
- contribution points are accrued by killing creatures THAT HAVE TARGETED THE DOLYAK. If a player taps a creature before it targets the dolyak, no contribution points are awarded. This will prevent players from gathering enemies and farming them for better rewards. Enemy players only need to be around it to count for points
- You will need to be around the Dolyak for 30 seconds to receive a reward
- Killing attacking creatures/players rewards much more than just escorting.
- Dolyaks can be revived but they are reset back to the start. Only exp is awarded for rezing a dolyak.
Scouting
- All keeps, forts, and starting areas have “Scout Spyglass”, a package. An infinite pick-up item that gives the player the ability to magnify their vision.(or if not possible, tag enemies).
- Players cannot use their weapons until they drop the spyglass.
- The spyglass disappears when dropped.
- When magnified the player can target and tag enemies / siege
- Aside from tag one at a time an aoe tag should be available. This skill will count the number of players in an area and show it on screen.
- The player can obviously output this information to chat. In order to get a reward though, the player must report to a quartermaster in any fort/keep within 15 min. A reward will be given based on whether or not the tagged players have been reported within the last half hour (someone has already scouted them).
- Reward increases as the tagged players increase. Rewards are higher for siege items.
- Any ally can go to the quartermaster to receive scouting info
- Allies will see a red area where tagged enemies are. The system will track the “tagged” players but will not give exact location
- Anyone in a party or squad can also see this info on their map
- To prevent the system from being too powerful, each group can only view this once every half hour.
- players are untagged each half hour and no longer mark a red area on the map
Any more suggestions would be great!
I’m from GoM and boy how things have changed. Our WvW population is about 1/5th of what it was a week ago. It’s not even funny, we have out-manned during our prime-time.
Might as well give some suggestions on how to properly reward defenders.
Let’s start off with defending keeps / forts.
First of all get rid of the defense event time, it will never be able to properly allocate rewards for defending.
Next Implement a defense contribution system.
This would entail:
- During an attack, all defending players have a contribution bar appear at top-mid of their screen
- This Bar indicates the amount the player has added to the defense
- Things like killing players, repairing, healing allies(with a cd timer), and holding out will increase this bar.
- The given reward will be scaled based on those factors. In other words, the more you do, the more you get.
- Leaving the area does not reset this bar. You can go pick up supplies and come back to it.
- The bar will reset when there are no attackers near the area or when the fort/castle is taken.
- Rewards are given out when the bar resets, regardless of whether your side won or lost.
- If possible: The player with the highest contribution gets a bump in their reward.
- This system could also be used for the attackers as well.
Now onto dolyaks:
- Dolyak rewards will only be rewarded on a successful escort.
- Similar to my previous suggestion, you will have a bar indicating how much you have contributed.
- Points are accrued by killing enemies THAT HAVE TARGETED THE DOLYAK. This will prevent players from gathering enemies and farming them for better rewards. Enemy players only need to be around it to count for points
- Points are also given for how long you defended the dolyak. You need to be around the dolyak for at least 30 seconds to receive a reward, pending that you didn’t kill anything attacking it.
- Killing attacking creatures/players rewards much more than just escorting.
If anyone has anything to add, I’m open to suggestions.
Well done xD. Though, often using dagger storm against a mesmer isn’t a very good idea. It basically leaves you open for free shatter burst. Dunno how it worked out so well there.
Hm that’s weird, mes try to use that on me all the time but the clones are killed before they can reach me. Not to mention the clones actually cause more dmg to the mes because the daggers bounce around.
Differences:
Wow-
Stealth was generally only at the beginning of a fight except a 3 min cd to vanish.
Rogues had massive stun locks
Rogues (at least eventually) were not as squishy as thieves.
Aoe knocked them out of stealth.GW2-
Thieves can stealth over and over.
Are squishy
Can teleport all over the place and back again.
Can spam moves with little regards to a cool down.
Aoe doesn’t effect stealth.
A large amount of skills passively evade attacks for no good reason (worst thing in the game)
Can spam blinds.
Of course not all at once but, I can see why people get upset with a zerker class in this game who has access to these kind of tools. They have much lower risk for their reward as a zerker compared to many other zerkers who can die much easier if not careful, and can spam abilities if they miss rather than accepting a long cool down for the mistake made.
Vs other classes though, we don’t get initiative when we swap weapons. A warrior can switch weapons and get a whole new set of skills not on cooldown. Thieves have a set amount of initiative no matter what weapon they use. As for paying for their mistakes, thieves pay more. If a thief is stunned after black powder they are basically screwed. We just wasted 5 initiative and will most likely take heavy dmg. If this was any other class it wouldn’t be a big deal cuz they could just swap weapon sets.
FYI AOE DOES AFFECT STEALTH. Thieves take damage while in stealth.
We can tele up to 600 with SB and 1200 with a slot. Otherwise this is nothing compared to a mesmers. Even with the steal buff, I’m still outrun by other classes with my SB. I know this is common around the thief forum but it’s a LTP issue here. Stealth and the initiative system isn’t as grand as everyone paints it to be.
Botters don’t buy accounts, they steal them.
How curious. They steal the accounts from people that named theirs aserfs dfdfas asdfa sdfdsa aasdd and asdfffew, and they put them together in the same place. Seems legit.
They sure used accounts that have been hacked or lend, but they do buy lots of new accounts to keep the income.
We are not here to fight, just discuss.
I actually have a few friends who have account names with facerolled spelling. Although I’m sure that botter use a combination of methods to gain access to the game.
Lol remember when a stack of mithril used to go for over a gold?
Bots for the most part are easy to spot, Their movement seems more ‘mechanical’ and they don’t take, I guess what you would call natural pauses.
If I’m not 100% sure I start to follow the toon around. Pretty quickly the person will either stop and look at me as a kind of “can I help you?”, or they simply just freeze on the spot “maybe if I don’t move, he won’t notice me”.
Lol yeah there should be a thread on how to spot bots and reporting them.
The most obvious sign of a bot is when they are running away from an event that real players are arriving at, such as shelter.
Erm… thats no sign for botting, a lot of people run away from events cause they want to do something else (farming mats for example or just buy s.th. from a vendor …).
Other players just hit a few enemys during an event (to get the rewerds) and run away afterwards (which is not very nice but still no botting)
I think she was saying that it could be a red flag for a bot, although you would never report someone just based on that alone. I tend to follow them for quite some time before a report to make sure. Jumping in front of them, whispering, and alerting others once I’m sure it’s a bot. Although most people won’t give 2 cents about getting the issue fixing. I know its perpetual but if everyone were to report a bot, eventually you would see a vast reduction in their numbers.
Anet could take a hint from Blizzard when it comes to balancing classes though.
NO. Blizzard tried to balance the classes so much that each clkitten up pretty much the same. Rouges lost stealth, pally’s lost summons and reduced healing, mages were turned into just dps machines, and ranger pet’s were nerfed so that they were basically worthless.
Why would ANET take a hint from a failing MMO?
Yeah used to be a rogue in WoW and it seemed they hated us. Stealth was worthless, dps wasn’t the best, survivability was poor, and lock-picking was made irrelevant by the fact that a smith could just make a key that unlocked everything.
They only ban each number of months, when the botters have profitted enough from the botting-selling. Then they wipe, and botters buy another large number of accounts. Sure way for Arenanet to stuff their pockets with full game sells.
At a point we even started to wonder if it’s a corporate thing, or the support teams were involved without superiors noticing…
Hm those supervisors would have to take some pretty light bribes, seeing as botters would have to purchase new accounts again and again. Although I’ve seen worse politicians. Although compared to WoW, this is nothing. WoW is a very easy game to hack and bots, account hacks, and other crap was very common. Although don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending it. I don’t know how I can report this and continue to see the same thing keep happening. It’s not like you can’t prevent it. I supposed not everyone knows to how to spot a bot or wants to follow a person to ascertain the situation more clearly but the mods absolutely should.
Actually it doesn’t hurt the economy. It affects the economy, but it doesn’t necessarily hurt it. I benefit from bots as I don’t attain my money through the items they are harvesting. So they lower the cost on those items that I need by over saturating the market with them. (I have no patience for farming)
People like you who are farming those same items lose money as the value of them gets decreased. Perhaps you should find other ways to make money until…. I expect they will do another mass bot ban soon. Keep reporting them!
They are botting npcs, not ore/other nodes, so it’s effect is not isolated to any one group. Not to mention I don’t farm anything, unless you count WvW as farming.
They get items like silk, gossamer, bags, and an assortment of weapons/armor. With salvaging, the impact of this is even more wide ranging. Now you many say this only reduces pricing but because it’s a commodity that’s being farmed, everyone except the botter loses. Everyone has what they are getting for nothing. Therefore everyone is losing money (well except for the people who don’t have an 80 yet).
I don’t know if this is the right section for this but here it goes.
I’m on gates of madness and have seen a large amount of botters in cursed shores EACH DAY. There has not been a day since living story started where I have not seen a botter.
How do I know they are botters?
1) They keep the exact same route around a small area for a long time
2) They use the same skill rotation for a long time
3) most of the time, they are on ALL day doing the exact same thing
4) no response from whispers
5) they act precisely. In other words there movements and skill use is stop and go, just like a computer.
Why this is wrong?
It devalues my work and makes it harder for legitimate players to earn gold while the botter walks free. It has become especially evident lately that there are more and more botters coming by. Mostly people won’t even report him/her after I show them, stating that the botter “helps them out”.
Please fix this, it hurts the economy!
Well I haven’t received any new feedback from the community but I would like to post that I found a build that works better.
I went 0 30 30 10, with d/p and it does amazing burt damage! Not only that but escaping is easier with all the stealth that comes with that build.
people have been making s/d builds rellying on evades and teleports…it’s still hard in wvw when you get focus fired on.
The problem with thieves is that no matter what you do, you’ll still be somewhat squishy (especially if you put 0 points in shadow-arts -so no traited toughness). In wvw there tend to be situations where superior numbers are focus-firing on you. For example in a zerg v zerg fight.
Shortbow doesn’t have the range to stay far back and spam enough damage to be worthwhile, so you kinda need to be up close. d/d absolutely needs to be up close…and if you’re not stealthing, then what; death blossom / heartseeker? These will get you targeted.
So now you’ve got a group of players focus firing on you and you’re already the squishiest class, even if you built (somewhat) tanky. So either you evade forever…which is impossible with cc. Or you have at least some access to stealth as a defensive tool. Think of it as /drop target. The goal is not to cheaply perma-stealth, but just to get people to switch targets so you can stay alive in a zerg v zerg battle. You need a way to reset aggro, if not the whole battle. S/D’s 2 skill gives you this option as well, so that may be more up your alley than stealth.
Even the D/D condition tank videos that I’ve seen out there use stealth once in a while to reset fights or get out when things go bad. These builds don’t really get the massive burst backstabs anyway, so even using the occasional backstabs isn’t really a “cheap” tactic in them. As you’re someone who is trying to play an “honorable” rogue, I think you should give s/d a shot, and see how it works for you.
Otherwise just accept some stealth as a defensive tool (if only that)
Thank you for the very kind input! A have a few questions though. If I were to go s/d, would I have to retrait everything again, and what would be a good build to complement that. I’ve tried using a sword before but flanking strike and it’s other abilities just seemed to basic to have any kind of utility.
Also forgot to mention, they really need to fix all the shortbow bugs. Slowed animation/projectiles really makes is useless for anything but cluster spam and support spam.
May I ask why you want a non stealth build?
It’s weird but I wouldn’t feel like I won something if I just killed them without them even having a chance to respond. I know this sounds like a warrior mentality but warriors don’t have the cool initiative system that thieves have.
I’ve been having some trouble playing in WvW since the latest patch and it would be great if you guys could help me out.
I run 10-30-0-30-0, zerg signet build with d/d and sb
I use the sb to get away and aoe with fire burst rune. Use the dagger for burst damage.
My build has a substantial amount of healing but lately it’s rendered pretty much useless. I can get 1 hit by mesmers, stealth rogues, and ranger’s pets.
This is the best non-stealth build I could think of but it seems that the only way a thief can be done is with stealth. Should I just switch to a different profession or are their any viable non-stealth thief builds?
I like allot of your ideas and here are my thoughts on them.
To #1: I think it’s fine as is. There is max amount that can be in the zone at a time and if they really have that much of a force attacking a fort it should be easy to take.
To #2: That should have been done a long time ago.
To #3: The downside to this is what happens when the team doesn’t control anything? They can’t build golems which will hurt their ability to breakout. It would be great if they incorporated a defense golem into forts though.
To #4: I agree, auto-loot would be awesome. Any loot that can’t fit into a player’s bag is moved to a spoils chest.
