Actually, having. “Where” command might come in handy. For instance, /w would list all people in your current map so you could judge the population for possible event attendees. Maybe. Kinda.
The bit I don"t like is having the LS but not able to get to a map as its been episode locked. Particularly if that episode is too difficult for me. Yes, LFG, but I like to do LS stuff by myself – isn’t that what they are for?
I’m trying to picture a charr-asura half-breed without shuddering. Come to think if it, a Sylvari-anything is pretty nightmarish too
Not a DJ thing but…
A Sylvari walks into a bough…
Ranger is probably one of the worst culprits of lazy gameplay in Open world PvE, it is notorious for it, I have no idea why it is being recommended. Plus he asked for style, not some nature hobo.
If you want active game play that isn’t a few buttons (which sadly most things are in open world cause it’s non-intensive) run something like Engineer or Ele. They will at least be more than a few button presses in open world.
Thats a matter of opinion and anyone can be “lazy”. You should not tar everyone with same brush.
The ranger, like other classes, can vary up their play; from being pure damage to condi and add traps into the mix. Plus, pet management stuff.
As far ad the emgi is concerned, granted, it has a great range of varirty but, on a personal note, I gave mine up when targetable turrets hot the kibosh.
I was in the opposite boat. Was very pleased with the Turret erasing, I just hope they take them out the game entirely, but that’s highly unlikely.
Interesting! Why do you think that? Both for the turret deployment thing and their abolition?

Isn’t the Lightbringer (Lightbearer? Lightward?) staff a spear looky-likey?
I think I’ll be going after hero points. Unless they won’t count in PoF? Need to research that unless someone can answer.
I’m assuming the people complaining about the difficulty of solo instances never played video games in the 80’s and 90’s…
This made me laugh, but it’s true, games used to be much less forgiving.
Mostly because most kids were only able to afford one game every month, so they had to last.
Then the gaming industry grew out of that. As did most of the players. Most of them are too old now to play such games, what with eyesight and reaction times getting poorer with every passing year.
GW is notable for being solo-friendly, a rarity among non-kiddy MMORPGs. Would be a shame to see it become yet another generic MMO, there’s more than enough of those already. But that’s probably unavoidable, since casual players rarely visit forums or otherwise voice their opinions.
Not sure if it’s actually that hard or if it was simply because I was playing a class that I haven’t played in a long while, but PoF story opening completely murdered me, over and over. Gonna feel bad for newbies who boost to level 80, and think they can cope there.
This and in fact was going to post something similar. My hand-eye has deteriorated over the years with the emphasis on eye. I used to do IK+ pretty OK when it reached mental speeds, Nemesis when it got hard and I could even dock without a docking computer in Elite. Could I do this now? Pretty sure that’s a big fat no.
I do find the story/stories difficult in placed which is when frustration kicks in and I give up. Spare a thought for the filthy casual old timer
Great idea! No glider, no cape but can I get a skin that makes me look like I’m wearing a wingsuit? Now this is what gliding should feel like:

It actually hurt my eyes to look at. Can’t see me buying one.
Not my cup of tea. Add it by all means but let me toggle the effect off if so.
Thank you, I’m clear now
Would we get more slots for free or buy using gems? Free sounds the wat to go! I’ll take 20 please!
So my ascended long bow is as good as Kudzu albeit with effectively unchangeable stats and no particle effects? Wow…
Rangers give themselves a name, and that name is selfish loner, never do i see rangers supporting the team in pve or pvp, usually they are the first to run ahead and KS the mobs in a event before slower classes can get a tag in
Even if rangers were good for pve i wouldnt take one because i know the type of kid that would play a ranger knowing the state they are in…just a clueless kid who wants easy street
By “KS”, do you mean “kill steal”? Is that possible in GW2?
I agree its quite a gentle punishment for dying. If you want something more hard core, try asking Anet to do what EQ1 had.
You die, you got transported back (hometown? Memory is vague) and you had to go and retrieve your corpse – naked and weaponless – to make sure it didn’t decay with all your gear on it. And then, if I remember right, you needed someone to rezz you if you weren’t of the rezz persuasion.
This carried over into EQ2 for a while but soon changed.
Wait, wait… Wha?
Excuse my ignorance as I’ve never aspired to legendary gear as I know it will be well without my reach. However, you’re saying it’s no better than ascended stat wise? I never realised that!
Surely it’s a different ball game with weapons isn’t it?
Sorry if I’m out of touch, which I clearly am!
All my toons are fembots bar my main. I just think women are better looking than men. Sorry chaps!
One option; start your own group and make it for rangers only. Probably won’t be very successful but it’d kitten off the l33t3sts.
Not sure if this idea will take off but… And it may be better suited to the ‘Players helping players’ forum.
We’re seeing a number of folk returning and asking for advice so I thought it might be worth condensing it all into one thread. Who knows? If it gets comprehensive enough, it might be worth a sticky.
I’ll kick it off by saying one of the major consideratios is HoT and everything that came with it; gliding, masteries etc etc.
I’m sure folk more knowledgable than me can expand on this topic.
What say you fellow forumites?
(edited by Flatley.1620)
Right. I tried a leap from the cannopy in VB last night. I was falling for ages and thought “this will give me awesome sauce damage!” I landed in a mangled heap somewhere but… but… where was the damage number? It didn’t display any where! Gutted.
I’m sure it would have been something like 357.000,000 ot something. Give or take. I’m not even exaggerating. Well, maybe a bit but it was a long drop.
Personally, I’d drop the HDD in favour of an SSD – preferably an M2 device if you can run to it. That’s where I have my OS and GW2.
What would be useful, as we’re seeing quite a few returning players come by, is a sticky thread with advice up top we could point them at.
DJ Cy Press says:
“Put the (pine) needle on da reckid”
Yes, I have not liked engineer much since they removed the ability to throw turrets. I am hoping this will revive the profession.
Apologies for thread drift but I completely concur.
It’s weird though. I can see why they didn’t do it – the mounts don’t really exist in the world outside of your character, so if you’re sitting there on your mount with your name over your head, where would the mount’s name go?
I would like to have a mountname too but this is a very good point.
If I could name my raptor though, I’d call it Binky to stay in line with my ranger pet names.
Haven’t read the whole thread but wouldn’t skimpy armour, male or female, be defeating the object of wearing armour in the first place?
If some crazed, plate-wearing Norm was coming at me with 12 foot double headed battle ace, I’d want all the protection I could get.
PvE?
15 char forum limit.
I had loads of capes in EQ2 and they excellent desings on them. Would they work in GW2? Dunno. A cape over a trench coat seems a bit odd. And capes for Asura makes no commercial sense as the tailor needs too little cloth due to their vertically challenged stature. Why, one bolt of jute could keep Rata Sum residents in capes for a life time…
It will run the game but I suspect you’ll be toning down shadows, lighting and details etc. Also, you may get slow map loading due to the low spindle speed of your HDD. if I would change one thing it would be to replace it with an SSD; an M2 device if you can rin to it.
My PC runs the game very well indeed. Specs in sig. When I got this well over s year ago, it was an expensive build; things have moved on, however, and the price of something similar may now be well within your budget.
Note the o/c as the game benefits grom that.
So, found no bugs. Great.
My previously created characters are still alive! Yay! Sans mount, boo. However, I understand re-doing the story line will give you the raptor back – which, I guess means a re-roll.
One thing – as I wandered the more deserty areas, I couldn’t get this out of my mind: “Mmmmmm, Shai-Hulud. Usul has called a big one! Again, it is the legend…”
The game is far more reliant on CPU clock speed although s decent GPU certAinly helps. Can you arrange for an o/c somehow?
As much as I love playing Norn toons, I always dread the Shiverpeak maps. Even on other toons, when I have to go into those maps in order to do level-appropriate content to level up. I was reminded about how much I dislike the snowy maps when, after finishing the fire island chapter of the Living Story, I had to go to a new map in the far north. It was underwhelming and pretty much looked the same as any other snowy map in the game. Dredgehaunt Cliffs is especially awful due to some complicated sections of the map and all of the Dredge.
Even in other video games, I have hated snowy areas, so it doesn’t have to do with how ANet designed their maps. The only ones that I am fine with are ones that have a mixture of snow and no snow, such as Lornar’s Pass and the Norn starting map.
But, now I am curious if anyone here has a map/environment type that they dislike or find boring. I don’t want to be just bashing things, but have a conversation as to why we may or may not like certain types of maps.
Allow me to retort!
Snowy maps are the best. Much prefer them to “hot” feeling maps.
But to each their own
Are any bug findings to be reported in the bugs forum or on this thread?
“Is this gonna be a stand up fight or another bug hunt?”
“Hey man, I only need to know one ting. Where. They. Are”Let’s go ahead and do one of two things:
- Type /bug and submit a brief report in the game. This is very helpful, because the report will be accompanied by location and other account data that helps the devs analyze the report
- Post in this forum thread
Thanks for asking — we’re happy to accept bug reports!
Perfect! Thanks for clarifying.
Yeah I think emote is the wrong term really, I think the OP is referring to a /afk command. Generally in MMOs an AFK command will put a visible flag on your character (often just adding AFK to your nameplate) and the game will auto reply to anyone whispering to you telling the person that you’re away from keyboard.
The auto reply is generally the most important part, but if you see someone standing still with AFK over their head you won’t whisper them at all.
Yes, this is exactly what I was trying to get at – apologies for not being clear. And I’d forgotten about the auto-reply which, in actuality, I am familiar with! D’oh! Thanks for pointin stuff out in a better way than I did!
Where I come from, /afk has the same command line structure as /dance hence my use of the word ‘emote’.
As to its use, are we saying its a pointless flag when it clearly indicares a persons non-presence? To my mind, /dance or /sleep tells me the avatar is emoting the action but with controller present. I just thought it would be a handy insta-indicator of human not at keyboard – it was just a thought.
Aha! Thank you!
I’ll make a prediction: this thread will get closed soon. As Yakhov says, its quite civilised so far, but I predict griefers will soon arive.

Gaile’s OP. I tried to copy it but my phone is incapable of this minor operation :/
I understand it will run for 2 hours
Is there a place I can find a list of obsolete loot/stuff so I can destroy it? I’m loathe to het rid of something if it has a use or may make a return. Can’t find anything on the Wiki.
For instance, I have some kind of token things that were used to buy stuff from a vendor during an event – which has long since been over.
Can someone give me the exact time of the Stress time in PST time?
How long does it exactly last? This is crucial information for me because I want to test various build on real pve, maybe on raid Golem if it’s accessible.
Think that was already answered earlier in the thread.
/sleep , to me, at least, would make me think the character is asleep in game but its puppetmaster is still at large watching the screen…
Personally, I keep all IRL matters out of the game. I don’t really care what you are – who you are in-game is more important to me.
I think you can hit ESC to cancel it can’t you? The cinematic I mean.
First, sorry if this has been asked before.
I was hoing through the list of ‘built in’ emotes from the Wiki https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Emote and I’ve always wondered why /afk does ‘t work. I would have thought it a useful indicator but I suppose it may have been exploited somehow – although I can’t imagine how…
