Appreciate the fact this thread is now over a year old but it’s still relevant.

This happened a lot on my old rig (which was long overdue for replacement – o/c’d CPU, no GPU o/c). I now have a new (ish) rig since May this year. Specs in the sig. I still get this issue (o/c’d CPU and GPU).

I had been told it was the PSU as I’d been getting kernel power errors. Both PC’s had a 1KW brick. I had been told it was the RAM – 6GB on the previous rig (Win7 Pro 64bit) and now 16GB as shown below.

Coincidence or a fault of the game?

I’m of the opinion my PC is more than capable of running this game. If anyone has any pointers, I’d gladly hear them!

Thanks.

A question about Kudzo

I have never bothered about getting my legendary longbow fort my main – looking at what is required seems very long winded and, I’ll admit, rather confusing for my tiny mind to understand. I’ve looked at what it does graphically and the stats thing (nifty)… I’m just not sure. Been playing since 2012 too!

The question is, is it worth the effort?

(Probably the same question for all legendaries I’d guess)

I sometimes only plain my main, and other times I invest in my alts. None of my characters are in ascended at all – apart from my main who has a couple of pieces of jewellery.

I would say you are not “wasting time” if you are enjoying doing what you do. All your alts are in the same game. Mrs. Flatley has said to me that it’s a waste of time laying in bed but I say I quite enjoy laying in bed, thanks.

There was also an option (years back) to have intense grass and shrubs in Everquest 2. Killed most PC’s at the time. I’d like to see the option personally, I already have everything – and I do mean everything – cranked right up to max and still get a very decent frame rate.

Just as an experiment, I’d like to see at what point I could make GW2 play like a slideshow

Edit to add: Yes, I’d like to see darker nights too but I don’t want to have to use another software package over (or is it under?) GW2 to achieve this. I’d also like to see intense rain and storms (in valid areas, naturally) and perhaps create puddles and wet look scenery (fnar, fnar etc.)

If you have a personal guildbank, stash it full of your non-account bound items and keep only account bound items in your normal bank tabs. Other than that, it’s easiest to just bite the bullet and filter out things you don’t really need.

That guildbank is full too! Yes, I need to spring clean the whole thing – been four years of hoarding, hoarding, hoarding!

I don’t bother with the dailies. They make the game feel like I have to work at something instead of just doing random stuff at will. Solo PvE is my thing, making gold from harvesting and catching the odd rare in events in HoT. I even managed (once) to find a very rare item in a large airship cargo doodad that I sold for about 250g.

Error 41 task 63 crashes

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Flatley.1620

Flatley.1620

Under advisement, I’m creating this thread to see if anyone else has seen this.

Randomly, I will get the above crash.

As you’ll know, this reboots the PC and creates a crash event. I keep seeing it’s a power issue but, given this PC is a new build (March) and a fairly fresh Win10 install, I really doubt this is the case. When I search the interwebs , there are numerous causes, numerous answers but nothing definitive.

My drivers are all up-to-date, except the GPU which is one version old. System specs are given in the sig.

ETA: I did report this happening before but it was on my old PC

Windows 10 incompatable?

Because of the error I’ve had? Do you think it would help?

The reason I ask is that that particular error doesn’t appear to be GW2 specific; it’s more of a general problem with Windows even though the only time I’ve experienced it is when I’m playing the game.

On my old rig, I was getting it just surfing the web.

Windows 10 incompatable?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Flatley.1620

Flatley.1620

GW2 is completely compatible with Win10. I’ve been playing on this O/S since March. March is when I received my new rig – details in sig.

However, I’ve now had a couple of error 41 task 63 crashes. When you investigate this on the ‘net, there are a bazillion and one solutions – some work for some, some don’t. The interesting one for me is turning off fast boot in the power settings. I haven’t tried it yet, so if it improves things, I’ll post back.

And it’s actually only been twice so it may be just a random. And only in GW2.

So, with Win 10 making it a little difficult to turn off automatic updates (yes, I know the service can be disabled), I started thinking…

I was one of those in the “no” to HoT camp for quite a while. I’d heard about the “buying it again”, the difficulty levels, the verticality… and gliding? No way, thought I!

But, y’know, it’s really good and I stand corrected. There’s always something to do and people grouping up – if that’s your bag. I’m not a big grouper and there’s a load of stuff you can do solo.

One thing I don’t like though, is running across something that makes you think “this is impossible”. Had that a couple of times.

Yeah, this is not specific to this game. All games have those.

True enough but folk like to vent and here, on these forums, is where the venting can sometimes take place.

From what I understand, GW2 was initially a big pull for the casual gamer. Casual gamers like to achieve stuff with something they shelled out for. Making stuff hard will turn them away – or at least some.

Personally, I like a challenge, but not something that just creates frustration. And, the awkward thing is, you can’t please all the folk all the time.

You’ll get replies from both camps on this one – do you have your Flame Resistant Coat of the Thornbuster on?

Y’see, to me, I don’t like to “work” at a game. A game, for me, is something to enjoy and have fun with. And yes, I am having fun.

But you must admit, there are some aspects that are completely insane. For me – and I’d assume others will say differently – there was one chapter of my PS that I died in over and over again, leaving me (or rather, my ranger) in nowt but his fig leaf. Maybe I didn’t suss the technique, I dunno, but it made me want to give up.

I’m not trying to troll or flame you, but sometimes something grates badly and that upsets folk.

Why the unrelenting pressure to do JPs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Flatley.1620

Platforming does not belong in an RPG imo.

Having to make one difficult jump or scramble up a tricky steep hill to get somewhere is fine. Having to do 20 difficult jumps in a row, where any error sends you back to the start is not OK.

I do the daily JP if it it is portal-able.

Incidentally, picking up on something in an earlier post, my main is a Norn. Are they harder than other races when jumping? I have dreadful problems with the camera angles.

That’s a good point – I wonder if it’s because Norn’s are, generally, taller than other races so the camera angle makes it difficult to judge jumps?

If I do have to jump something – not necessarily a JP – I really hate it when something obscures your view, like a tree. I suppose I could go 1st person but I don’t like that anymore – it’s like going back to EQ2

However, I don’t find HoT too difficult at all. Yes, there’s stuff you just can’t do solo and stuff you aren’t meant to, but, on the whole, I find the challenge just right for me. I felt it got just that bit better once I could glide.

HoT - my take on it

. Had the expac a week only
. Hugely sceptical about the content
. Hugely sceptical about it be too “challenging”

Despite the above, I, as a complete hypocrite, am hugely enjoying this stuff. My mouth will cease to condemn it. I stand corrected. Points 2 and 3 are unjustified and I’m a complete wuss when it comes to “hardcore” gameplay.

Nuff said.

"Establishing a foothold" - bug? Or just me?

Thanks all – understand now. The bit that escaped me was that I needed to participate in events in order to gain exp. to complete the first glider stage.

I thought HoT was going to be too tough for me but it does seem to be doable – albeit more challenging.

Decided to buy HoT after all. Played through first two parts of my storyline and am attempting part three, “Establishing a foothold”. Looking around on line, I can see I need to have a dialogue with the “pale reaver”. He should have a green star over his head shouldn’t he? He doesn’t and I cannot progress.

From what I understand, this part unlock gliding. Which I can’t do at this moment.

What am I missing?

Cheers.

Not problem, just an observation. GW2 flies on one of these drives (as far as load times are concerned, obviously). Of course, it should do, but it’s made quite a difference in performance so I thought I’d share…

Yep, done. Have to say, this rig doesn’t even get slightly stressed with GW2 settings maxed out. Mind you, I haven’t played with all the settings yet.

Cheers again.

Got my new rig today and copied my GW2 stuff over. When I went to login it said that I needed a secure login. So I press the button and get a five digit code to enter. Logged in OK then,

Is this a new feature I’ll have to do every time? Or is it just because of my new rig?

Also consider overclocking. Sometimes bad, sometimes good but sheer clock cycles will help with performance, particularly on MMORPG’s that are CPU bound.

Straight to it.

I’m trying to copy my GW2 stuff to a USB drive as I want a new PC to copy it to. However, when I try to copy gw2.dat (26.2 GB) it’s says the file is too big for the file system on the drive (USB 2.0).

I was trying to avoid a hefty download on the new rig.

What should I do?

Ta folks.

@ Ellieanna I’ve heard this before but my PSU is a 1KW one and, according to Speccy, performing adequately on all rails. After testing the below, I’ll submit a ticket as you suggest. Mind you, I was looking to get a new PC anyway…

@ Loli Yes, I saw that too. Only two of us in the whole world having the same issue, eh? Ah well.

@ I updated my drivers because I was crashing so I guess rolling them back isn’t going to help

Thanks for your replies folks, some more digging required. Incidentally, I tried limiting my FPS back to 60 in-game and it felt more stable; I was certainly playing for a lot longer but I only had 10 minutes to test so that’s not a definitive answer.
