After landing a maul:
I was accused of being OP after crushing a PvP match. Does that mean I’m the top Ranger?
Yes.
Though I thought Benjen Stark was a pretty good ranger, until the last time I saw him. Very weak performance.
I swear I’m not trying to milk the thread, just haven’t checked forums for a while :<
@Enderz, CG (can’t call you Crapgame, would feel too mean), & Fluff; thanks guys, appreciated.
@Justine, pretty good nightmare fuel right there
+1 for condi removal that doesn’t (painfully) euthanize your pet. A reworking of Empathic Bond & SoR perhaps? The active of SoR can be a lifesaver but mainly in niche scenarios, whilst the passive is next to useless. EB could do with a rework, moved to another tree perhaps and decreasing the penalty on your pet; 2 transferred and 1 cleansed? Flat out 2 cleanse? Or just use Soldier Runes and shouts…Not my cup of tea, but some people seem to love it.
Your intro is too long. loljk. Nice vid
Is hilt bash range fixed?
What you did there, I see it. Thanks Kiwi :>
And yeah it still feels pretty buggy, along with Counterattack GS #4, as the actual knockback attack misses from time to time when it clearly shouldn’t have.
Shhhh, it’s a charr secret! Jks, honestly even I was a bit surprised it landed. I guess it was at max range and the terrain was completely flat so no annoying bugs/miss-hits.
Thanks man
Heyhey,
Hope nobody mines if I just leave https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEk1yOo91Aw here, like maybe there’s some love for melee druid? Maybe just a bit?
Seriously though, hope you enjoy. Gonna keep it short and sweet here because a couple of my fingers fell off writing the description/pinned comment. Much love!
Person 1: “What traits you run?”
Person 2: “Err…2/4/2/0/6”
But yeah, your suggestion is somewhat similar to the way the trait system worked before the June 2015 trait overhaul (see above), similar in the sense it allowed for a lot more diversity. You didn’t have to spec into an entire trait line if you didn’t want to, you could pick and choose from different trait lines and it was a great system. Although traits did also have Stats in them like power, precision etc. which was a bit odd. Removing the stats and updating a lot of dead/useless traits was a great move by ANet, but making a more rigid/less diverse trait system was not.
As for how this would work with elite specialisations, I’d say just require the trait line to be maxed to unlock the Elite Specialisation effects e.g. Berserk Mode on Warrior, Function Gyro on Scrapper etc. And perhaps even make it require more trait points than vanilla traits, I mean it’s the strongest trait line so it should require a tad more sacrifice imo. I truly believe that reverting back to this system would improve gameplay/player happiness vastly.
Tl;dr version: Change trait system back to pre-june 2015 state, minus the stats and update some traits.
Hello engineers,
Just been lurking the forum & noticed some disdain for the Flamethrower with it being regarded as almost exclusively a condition kit. From my experience I’ve found it to be really useful in power setups.
Apologies if you’ve seen video beforehand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21ICeHguxFs
Far from flawless plays, I still hope the video showcases Flamethrower’s effectiveness in scenarios such as outnumbered solo, condition opponents, and small scale roaming. I mean I’ve got nothing to gain by lying about the build, just hope others can find some enjoyment from playing it. Most of what you want to know should be in the description/comments. If you’ve got any questions please don’t hesitate to message me here or ingame.
Happy Scrappin’ o/
Nice video, the music got me moving in my seat & there’s charr scrapper, what’s not to love? :>
“Heal as one” and the elite skill “Strength of the pack” do not remove a condition while using superior rune of the trooper.
Just in case it helps verify, here’s a recording of all the shouts (minus S&R; it works) being used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5mdtZpDK5s&feature=youtu.be
Yes, I’m also having extreme lag since the patch hit.
Though this seems pretty common after any major update to the game and it affects some players and has done since release. I personally noticed it around a year ago, with odd lag spikes and/or disconnects affecting me shortly before the patch would hit then for quite some time after, rendering the game unplayable.
As for advice on how to fix it, I’m afraid there isn’t much credible advice, at least not in my eyes. I’ve tried several methods to fix it, contacting support & going through a fruitless procedure of testing for packet loss & being told “It’s your ISP’s fault” then contacting my ISP and being told there’s nothing abnormal on their end. Switching from a wireless to a cable connection didn’t help, nor did trying any 3rd party programmes, closing all other windows while GW2 was up or altering clientports. Of course these are methods which are supposed to help so perhaps you’ll have more luck than I did; submitting a ticket to support, browsing the support area of the sight (tab found at the top of the page) and altering clientports would be your best options.
Other than that I’m afraid it’s a waiting process for some, myself in included. I haven’t been able to play since patch hit & I’m simply waiting for the lag to blow over.
You’re dead to me, Ragnar.
I jest, nice video and crazy setup.

Rytlock went on to talk about how the Blood Legion has lost a lot of their warriors over the last 9 months to the Iron Legion. It appears they all changed class to Engineer.
Holy kitten I’m so guilty of this.
Love the theme of the topic though, genuinely lol’d. On a serious note, the only thing upsetting about warrior is its lack of ingenuity. Pop stances, rely on healing signet, stay in your opponent’s face, miss your highly telegraphed burst skill then die (assuming your opponent knows what to dodge and when to dodge it). Still love the class, but it’s a free kill roaming the borderlands.
Funnily enough, I was watching an old Skullcrack video the other day. I’m not kidding when I say a big smirk shot across my face as I watched that near instant, no telegraph skill stun people for 3 seconds as hundred blades diced them up and the warrior facetanked pretty much anything trying to stop ’em and I was as guilty as anyone for doing this.
It was hilariously OP.
Yup, for a total of -53%.
Hey uh, which way to the out house?
On a serious note, I do miss the old ambient dialogue of LA.
I take great pleasure in stomping Charr with the annoying saiyan hairstyle & avoid rezzing teammates I don’t know who have it.
I dislike every race that isn’t charr, asura especially.
Thanks all.
@Fluff – Tough question. Lately I’ve much preferred axe offhand for the damage but dagger is still just as good in its own right. I think you’re right to be switching between the two although I find dagger to be more useful when duelling. If you’re feeling risky then you could de-target, anticipate your opponent’s movement then use it without a target. As for the effects of the LB buff, longbow users are still the most common ranger imo, closely followed by condi and/or regen as well as some technobabble asura daze rangers (hilarious to see someone dazed for 6 seconds). Noticed a big surge in trapper rangers though that’s for sure and from memory I’ve only ran into one, maybe two melee rangers when roaming.
@Prysin – Fair point about including losses as I know some people get salty when an uploader leaves them out. I normally do show, I just saw I had a reasonable amount of footage and quickly put this together. I probably spent most of my time messing around on the overlay when it came to editing. Although when I watch compilations I do it to see what a build can do as opposed to what it can’t, that’s easy to work out just by looking at it. Plus it’s melee ranger, to think I’m trying to trick anyone into thinking it’s flawless is naïve.
@Lugh – Heh, well might stacking ranger is something I’d recommend now. Pre-patch it wasn’t really possible as you’d have to stretch your trait points far too thin to make it ‘balanced’. Very good point on the condi defence, 4/6/4/0/0 sounds like fun. I just have little options as SotF won’t work as I’m reliant on signets nor will cleansing sigils as I need the dodges & might. Signet of Renewal could but even that’s weak & outclassed by the other signets. And yeah tbh I’d been looking at what to use instead of spider, I think I’ll try double canine, boar sounds like a walk on the wild side haha.
@Vikkela – Hah, the rage is real!
Season’s greetings rangers!
Slapped together another melee build and made some sort of montage…compilation…9k-10k Maul slideshow edited by a charr cub.
Das video: Melee Ranger Outnumbered Compilation – I hope you enjoy!
As ever, constructive feedback/criticism is much appreciated.
I’ve thought this for quite some time. Even my dark brown/black charr’s back shines white. It’s particularly annoying with dyes, making abyss look like pitch.
Cool idea, but I think Anymras is right about it being overly complex & unfair. I’m afraid it’ll remain a fantasy.
I don’t see why it shouldn’t have the % chance upped, a slow attack speed should warrant it. Then again, it’ll hardly make a huge difference. Enough of a reason for the devs to say “Nope”.
only way i can see 12k happen is on a 25 vuln stacked mesmer with 25 might 25stack of blood lust in wvw
which u prolly dont get very often
Pretty much, and preferably a glass light armored profession. Either way it’s not something anyone should expect to see.
So much yes for 2 handed axe, not so much for it being a condition damage weapon. AoE heavy like hammer purrhaps, less so focused on CC but movement hindrance?
Thanks for the feedback all, glad you enjoyed it. Wasn’t sure on the music, nice to hear it’s gone down well.
@Kral – Aw, you didn’t say anything unclean, no worries.
Thanks Kral, appreciated.
1vX videos rarely include skilled opponents, although the terrain plays a huge role as well as foodbuffs. But yes, if I’d of included duels against them type of players, I should think I wouldn’t be able to see a like bar.
I haven’t tried the 180 degrees technique Ralkuth is talking about but yes, Sword 2 & GS 5 (more so GS 5) are renowned for being unreliable. It’s an issue which has been around for a long time and there are no signs which suggest it will change anytime soon. Like you said, a way to increase your chances of hitting are to get within close range. Other than that, there’s no harm in crossing your fingers.
Heyy warriors
Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNGG3yoXPyo
Acted on some feedback from my previous video, results were good! Mainly ham/gs but also a skullcrack setup in there. Video description for anything else.
Would love to hear feedback, good, bad, constructive, potato. So long as I can work on it!
It’s sad indeed. No excuses, just pure laziness from the devs.
Good stuff guys, been trying a skullcrack build but it didn’t feel very optimized. 3.5k armor Cygnus, hah that’s insane. 0/6/5/0/3 is interesting also killah, mucho will be learned from this thread.
Thanks Denied, I’ll be sure to use these should WvW ever close down and I can’t roam.
jks, good stuff. +1
Thanks Cygnus, solid advice. I really should try LS more, like you say it really can send an opponent into panic mode. Bloodlust is something I only use if I’m in a party as when I run into solo roamers, they often don’t have them. Still, it’d be interesting to see what could happen with the extra power from bloodlust when it comes to 1vX.
Cheers Wilson! Yes, I’m sure we’ve met recently
.
Solid advice already here but here’s my 2 cents;
Personally, SotF isn’t my cup of tea but it can work well. I don’t think koi cakes are necessary and I prefer to be a bit glassier. That’s not to say being tanky isn’t effective, it really can be, just so many condi specs are tanky themselves and you really need that extra damage in place of toughness to dent them. Seeing as you don’t use EB, you can choose pretty much whatever pet, but still I find spiders to be the most effective (depending on the opponent) as they don’t die to AoE/cleave, apply plenty of poison and can land painful immobilises. Double energy sigils is good, the others are to your liking. I’d love Evasive Purity if the cooldown wasn’t so bloody long, can work ok against some classes (thieves mainly) but mostly I reckon Enlargement and Two Handed Training (perhaps less so given your fury up-time) are better.
tl;dr – Moar damage, moar speed, less caek.
Most annoying animation bug ever! Good fights Sam, the melee ones were really intense. You’ve got a good build going there, I’m interested to see the final product.
Cheers Adozu.
A good D/D ele will cause any warrior some problems and if they’re good enough, I’ll switch to this build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJIQNAneSjMdUGaZHehwJagfgC9t3C7gpAQdak7lBA-T1BFwACOCAIV+hS9n06Dat/AgDBwVlgkCYJlRA-w – Or at least something like it. Axe/Shield + Hammer is what’s the most important though, it provides a ton of CC and damage. Everything else is optional, just stay glassy.
Very similar for medi guard: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJIQNAneSjMdU3ZVIehwJagggCdPkC3gRBgS1OA-TVROwAjU+NQ9HA7PQUfgMlgkCQPlRA-w – they lack stability and are squishy. Signet of Might to negate their blocks (interrupting Shelter is priceless) and berserker stance to negate their blinds & build adrenaline. Also endure pain & shield stance to stop their bursts. Although, medi guard is quite a strong counter to warrior in general so finding a win will be a struggle. Still, both builds are tried & tested and should help in securing a win.
Hallooooooo warriors, warrior wannabes and warrior haters (I know you haters are around, waiting to slurp up our tears the moment you get a chance to!)
So I was walking by the neighborhood, or well more like sleeping on the streets in the neighborhood for a while and listening to the recent going ons around here and noticed how things have gotten pretty sour. Which is a shame because I liked this neighborhood :/. But anyway enough with the metaphors, I bring you a roaming video.
- Hopefully everything you want to know is in the description, or maybe you’ll find ramblings. Either way, I hope you enjoy the video.
Feedback is mucho appreciated and if you have any questions & queries, let them be known!
A lot of solid advice already in the topic, although as it’s already been stated, a medi guard should beat any warrior. Still, no harm in making them fight tooth and nail for their win:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJIQNAneSjMdU3ZVIehwJagggCdPkC3gRBgS1OA-TVROwAjU+NQ9HA7PQUfgMlgkCQPlRA-w – Something I’ve tried and tested fighting plenty of medi guards and it can work great. From a WvW perspective it’s not something I’d roam with, but should you find yourself duelling a medi guard, this build can work great. Even if they have a hammer, stability isn’t really needed as surviving in the ring isn’t all that difficult. Strength & Discipline Adept trait is optional.
Armour, outfit, whatever. Make scar/tattoo armours happen please!
Thanks for the feedback all, appreciated.
@Lugh – Yeah the ranger was a tough one, lots of sustain.
@Nagym – I’ve seen the topic (I often lurk around the profession forums) but it seemed too organised (which is a good thing :P) and required a commitment, atm I’m just roaming in the borderlands solo and in a group and that’s all that I’m really interested in. If people want to duel me in OS then I’ll find time for that. Also the damage on crippling strike is very low, I can hit 150-250 dmg non crit depending on the opponent. But it can clear blindness and an opponent’s aegis/block.
@Cufu – Glad you did. I should probably make them into smaller chunks as that’s normally what I like when watching YT videos, but I guess people are free to stop watching at a certain point and then pick it up again another time.
Helloooooooooo again Rangers & ranger lovers.
Decided to tinker with melee ranger again after the patch. Nothing really that big came out which affected it, all of the Greatsword’s skills got buffed though \o/. Still, a new rune was added to the patch which I decided to test out. They’re alright, but I’m pretty sure there are better alternatives:
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_fLGdpzHrk – Enjoy!
Runes are flexible (like the build), could go for Hoelbrak, Melandru, Rage, Ranger and as LughLongArm suggested to me, Pack. I’ve always liked pack runes and they’ll give nice swiftness+fury uptime as well as better DPS. In that case, Runes of Evasion aren’t all that good, although the swiftness&fury procs even when out of combat and the final effect does dmg so can proc sigils or other effects. Plus cripple is nice. But like my last video, it’s less so about the specific build and more so about the play style.
I often opt for tankier pets, namely 2 spiders. I mainly use Empathic Bond for condi clear, so they’ve got to be spongey. Plus the poison & immob uptime is good and they’re ranged which is good and bad. Bad because they’re not very accurate and have low DPS but good because they’re not dying to Cleave/AoE skills. Dual birds often run into this problem, although they can provide a lot of Swiftness and DPS so I’ll sometimes use them if my opponent isn’t con/aoe heavy.
Dagger offhand can be swapped out for axe. The Velocity of #4-Patch of Scars was increased 25% in the patch so it’s somewhat harder to dodge. I normally swap it out if my opponent relies on projectiles but it’s nice to roam with as Path of Scars hits hard, CCs while bringing your opponent to you and can be followed up with more dmg while they’re disabled for a short time. Whirling Defense imo is weak but it can still come in very handy.
The utilities are very interchangeable, I often drop Muddy Terrain & Signet of Renewal depending on my opponent. RaO & Entangle can also be swapped for one another depending on the scenario, I don’t really have a favorite between the two.
The condi cleanse is particularly nice, capable of “removing” 5 conditions every 10 seconds, so long as you don’t use SoR, swap weapons constantly and your pet is alive. I’m very split on Empathic Bond, having to sacrifice my class mechanic (which isn’t all that good anyway) to remove conditions, kinda like saying to a thief don’t use your Steal or Stealth to cleanse X amount of conditions. Survival of the Fittest isn’t much better imo, I like the fury but your opponent’s condi skills often recharge faster than your Wilderness Survival skills.
Thanks for reading and feedback is always welcome!

TL;DR: Error ( Code: 5 : 11 : 3 : 159 :101 ) – See attachment.
Hey there,
I’ve owned the game since release and had the occasional hiccups when it comes to connectivity, but over the past month, and more so in the past couple weeks, I have been getting consistent disconnects which brings me to the character select screen then once I try to get back in-game, I am shown to a white screen with an error code in it (see attachment). I’ll then close the client, get back to the character select screen and attempt to get in game on the character I disconnected with. If I do, I’ll get the same message. If I try to log in on another character, I can get into the game and I won’t have any problems for say, the next 30 minutes if that, then the same will happen. This happens rather randomly but usually on a daily basis and more so after the alleged “Ddos attacks”.
I primarily play WvW and tend to stick to smaller engagements rather than the ‘Zerg v Zerg’ but even when in Lion’s Arch the disconnects happen.
I contacted my ISP and they said it isn’t on their end, which I believe because Guild Wars 2 is the only program which is experiencing these sort of disconnects. I thought perhaps it’s my wireless connection as it can be susceptible to interference so I bought a cable and plugged straight into my router. It certainly increased my download speeds, but didn’t stop the disconnects.
I tried a traceroute, hoping it’s relevant to my situation. My results were:
1 9ms 0/ 25 = 0%
2 12ms 1/ 25 = 4%
3 16ms 1/ 25 = 4%
4 20ms 0/ 25 = 0%
5 17ms 2/ 25 = 8%
6 18ms 11/ 25 = 44%
7 12ms 0/ 25 = 0%
8 24ms 2/ 25 = 8%
9 28ms 1/ 25 = 4%
10 31ms 18/ 25 = 72%
11 —- 25/ 25 =100%
12 32ms 2/ 25 = 8%
1 9ms 0/ 25 = 0%
2 11ms 1/ 25 = 4%
3 21ms 0/ 25 = 0%
4 20ms 0/ 25 = 0%
5 16ms 2/ 25 = 8%
6 19ms 1/ 25 = 4%
7 20ms 2/ 25 = 8%
8 94ms 5/ 25 = 20%

13 129ms 7/ 25 = 28%
14 129ms 7/ 25 = 28%
15 —- 25/ 25 =100%
16 135ms 6/ 25 = 24%
Apologies if the data shown is improperly displayed, I tried to keep it looking similar to the data shown in the Connectivity Support/Help section of the website found here: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/27698133-Connectivity
I’m a bit wary to try anything else as I’m not much of a tech head so wasn’t sure if displaying more information from my traceroute would compromise my computer’s security. I’m rather confused as to why these problems didn’t hit me when I first started the game but are happening now.
Anyway I hope the information I’ve provided helps to solving the problem and can provide more if needed.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: When sent back to the character select screen, I am given the Error Code ( 7 : 11 : 3 : 191 : 101 ) (See second attachment)
(edited by Fox Of Precision.4187)
Agreed, more needs to be done if the devs want this trait to become viable. I love the idea of Strider’s Defence but even with the buff it will still be weak and not worthy of 6 trait points. 30% is the least I’d want for this trait.
Thanks again for the feedback all.
@Lugh
Thanks. Hard to say, although the glass spec is much less versatile. It could probably be tweaked to have some condi cleanse while still maintaining a high amount of might stacking & DPS, I’ve just never tried. And yes, I really do have plans to combine the might stacking/defensive sides of both builds after patch because that Signet change is huuuuge. That build you linked looks like an interesting post patch build, I’ll likely be tinkering with something similar.
@Alex
Yeah, can swap out either for jungle spider also.
@Raven & Chokolata
I did run into many P/D thieves and found out pretty quickly this build can’t handle them. I beat one, but I get the feeling he’d not long been using it and/or not been in WvW for very long so decided not to upload.
@Nagym
Looks like a risky build, I likey. Although I’ve blown near all my money on gearing & levelling characters and I haven’t farmed in a long time, instead I just slowly drained my wallet of the gold I got from a forged precursor. Now I’m poor again (welp). There was however an asura ranger I remember from a while back (about a year ago now) who’s build was really effective. I never spoke to the guy or saw his build so I tried to recreate what I remembered seeing. Funnily enough, it was SB/Sword+WH with an owl and most of the same utilities. Might be something I try to pick up in the future, thanks.
@Dead Muppet
The Skirmishing traitline is pretty bad and I changed my pets often, Pets Prowess is the best I could use. Do you mean malicious training? If so then yeah it’s a good trait, like I said the build is very flexible and looking at it now, the 1k sacrifice in HP & Rejuvenation might be worth it but I normally used my pets as a sponge so don’t really invest in them. Pets Prowess was just my only other option in Skirmishing. MoC is an odd one and I use it mainly for the spike from Attack of Opportunity but like you said, it’s hard to land and not all that reliable. If it does land however then it can change the course of the fight. Skirmishing traitline was mainly for the Prec&Ferocity as well as the minor traits as my fury & swiftness upkeep becomes pretty good. Hunter’s Tactics is also pretty effective. Something like 4/4/6/0/0 could work well though.
@Coarr
Cheers. Although I don’t think many compilations/montages paint the player’s opponents in a good light. I’ve watched a lot and have been like “How did you not dodge that eviscerate??” or “That guy didn’t even dodge Earthshaker” or “That guy should have seen the Burning Speed combo coming a mile away”. Like you said, dodging my opponent’s skills doesn’t mean they’re bad nor does it make me good. When up against a melee ranger, I doubt many people have it in their head what needs to be dodged. Maul perhaps but that’s up again in 4 3/4 seconds and despite having a telegraphed attack, it activates in 3/4 of a second, not a lot of time to react.
Thanks for the feedback all & glad you enjoyed it, appreciated.
@Lugh
I really didn’t come across that many melees. One warrior fight just ended up in stalemate and I won against a guardian but i had buffs and he didn’t so I didn’t include it. Other than those 2 there were no other melee fights I had recorded. I do however have a video purely against warriors up on the channel if you wanna check that out.
@Alex
Depends on your opponent, although my pet’s main use is to absorb my conditions so it needs to be tanky, duo spiders work great because they dish out a lot of immob and poison which also works as a combo field, if you’re lucky or fast enough you can leap through it for weakness or dagger #5/GS #4 for moar poison. Still, if you see you’re not up against a condi heavy class, Raven and Wolf work great.
@Kiwi
Aye that’s a good alternative.
@Yams
In the clip against the condi ele, I was using some odd variant which I only used in that fight. I just threw my zerk armour on with Runes of the Ranger as well as healing spring, thinking I could get my drake to blast while I also leaped through it and standing in it for condi cleanse. Seemed to work against the guy, although honestly I haven’t used it since. As for the final fight, I knew that most of the damage from the ranger would come from longbow, so I used Soldier’s weapons to soak up some more damage while attempting to close the gap. Traits stayed the same, although I put on Strider’s Defence over Moment of Clarity as trying to land Hilt Bash and an interrupt against that type of opponent is extremely difficult, even if Strider’s Defence is woefully weak, it helps more in that situation. If used right, axe offhand can be pretty effective. I spoke to the ranger after the fight and he said the Path of Scars into Whirling Defence hurt him good.
