It does look to be so. The strange thing to me is that I did nothing to fix it, so it looks like it was handled on Anet’s side.

Hey guys, for the past few hours I have been trying to log in, but each time I launch the game, the client stalls at 0kbps.

However, when I open other game clients, such as Diablo 3, even to update, I am making progress.

I haven’t seen anywhere that the servers are down or that there is a problem somewhere, but I just need to know if it’s just me or not.

No settings on my computer have been changed.

I was discussing this with a co-worker who is a big WvW player and has pretty good insights into, at the very least, WvW style PvP; all the while, I have spent less time in WvW but more in sPvP and PvE than he has.

That being said, he plays a lot of unique builds that are only possible through the format’s ability that allows players to have access to the gamut of armors, runes, sigils that aren’t allowed in sPvP.

As an example, he enjoys running tanky mesmer builds and healing ventari revenants, etc. At that point in the conversation he expressed his disillusionment with the revenant purely because of the sheer limitations of the Legends that aren’t Shiro and Glint. He went on to say that he didn’t feel Shiro and Glint were overpowered, but instead that the other Legends were lackluster or simply functionally weaker than the dominant options. Whether that’s Energy costs, simple number values on skills, or the actual skill itself being less competitive with other Professions; it turns out that for some combination of reasons this is the general consensus.

Perhaps the problem stems from just how varied the Legends are. Shiro, DD dps, Mallyx condi, Ventari GROUP healing/support, Jalis tanky, Glint doing a lot of each of the other Legends work better on the individual skill level…

I think that’s the underlying problem perhaps.

I had an idea for an Ele spec:

Conduit: You know how the Tempest has the overloads? Well, to branch off of that, instead of overloading into some type of unique one-and-done skill, instead make them unique Elemental transformations (Different than the elementals that are currently in game) that change 1-5 on the bar and add minions types (for the corresponding element) to the 6-0 bar.

I think it could be cool, but I just want minions to be in a slightly better place than they are now. Sure, they did a good Quality of Life change so they don’t just die instantly, but as a necro main it still doesnt feel to great with the exception of Flesh Golem to ham up those break bars.?

As for weapons, add dual axes for that visceral close-mid range feel. I think it’d be pretty dope.

Guild Missions

I’m certain we’re not the only guild experiencing this, but on more than a few occasions when we start the WvW guild missions they will occasionally be bugged right from the get-go.

Escort missions will have 3/3, 5/5, 8/8 right off the bat.

Rank Missions will have 10,000/10,000 immediately, etc.

We tried to run one of the escort missions that was bugged, counting the yaks we got in, but to no avail and with a good chunk of time to spare.

It’s commendations and favor just sitting there (since slivers are dirt cheap now).

I’m certain a post has already been made, but I just wanted to “refresh” the topic.

Short Bow?

So, is the consensus more like “We need a bit of (or an entire rework) of the Shortbow,” or “we may need 1 or 2 skills to be changed and some QoL improvements to certain existing skills,”? Or maybe the wacky 3rd option?

I hope to see more than a few wacky 3rd, 4th or even 5th options if applicable. :P

What class is using shortbow anyway`?

While I definitely acknowledge that the number of classes that can use this tentatively final legendary is less than desired, I don’t think it would be too much to ask for more of a rework of the ranger SB in particular.

Yes, I am aware that the numbers were adjusted in the spring patch, but I feel that a rework of the SB might be in order since, lets be honest, the LB has the ranged Power damage kingdom in Ranger land.

Camilla Nox = Fem necro, just sounds cool.

Halaster Atmora = Mes, Halaster Blackcloak, crazy wizard lives under Waterdeep from Neverwinter Nights, also in the Eberron Setting of DnD. Atmora is for all those Elder Scrolls fans

Amadea Amadis = Fem War, from Amadis De Gaula, hero named from a landmark work among the chivalric romances which were in vogue in sixteenth-century Spain.

Steaboat Bobby = Engineer. Because Steamboat Willie was taken.

Funk Master Fonkk = Asura Mes, that’s a dope Asuran name if I’ve ever seen one.

Bellatrix Almodovar = Harry Potter reference / Pedro Almodovar is a renowned Mexican director.

Silvers Nivra = Silvari male thief, Silvers is a One Piece reference and Nivra a nostalgic Character name I made for many mmo’s over the years.

Ophala Silverlight = Female Silvari ranger, Ophala from Neverwinter Nights and Silverlight is that sword from runescape xD oooh to be impressed by runescape at such a young age…

Concern for Central Tyria

To be honest, I’m glad to see so many opposing views. I dunno, maybe it was simply time of day, who knows, I guess boiling it down I just wanted to say that there seem to be less unique and exciting events in these other maps.

I personally don’t consider SW to be part of central Tyria though mechanically it is, and Orr really was the only place before LSs2 that people farmed a lot, but I’m not addressing farming in this post necessarily, though it does factor in where you chose to go at a given time.

People join GW2 all the time. Sure, everyone is flocking to the HOT zones now because they are starved for content. You will be getting people who have not been all over Tyria yet though.

That’s definitely true, and I want to say that with the combined power of both an expansion and and the Free to Play platform we’re finally getting that population climb out of the plateau – or even decline from people bored of the vanilla game – that an argument could be made in that direction.

That being said, I’m still uncertain that these central areas are going to see any touching up in the future, but I suppose we’ll see.

With HoT hitting the streets last Friday it has been a wonderful and refreshing experience and I’m not anywhere remotely close to the halfway point of my HoT journey across my character pool. The expansion has really breathed new life into the franchise and I can’t really point out a non bug-related complaint about it at this time.

However, as I was taking steps to prepare for the expansion I have been upgrading my computer to get ready for this and other games coming out this quarter and I was out of the game for a while. Coming back at launch and starting a Rev that I only managed to boost to 42 or so I started out in Queensdale and Rata Sum respectively.

Even though I’ve got a pool of 18 characters at this time and only 12 are level 80, after playing the new map and starting a character over… I noticed just how different and barren the central maps were compared to how incredibly dense the expansion zones are – both in population and in “stuff”.

Now, we knew this was a problem beforehand, it’s not a new issue, but we’re currently solving it with migrating to a new area to spend our time there. It will solve the problem for a time… But after the players finish the parts of their legendary crafting in a random central map or fractal and leave it for God knows how long… I’m concerned that these areas aren’t going to have new life because they’re…

  1. Lower Level
  2. Lower Threat
  3. Lower Reward
  4. Less immersive
  5. Don’t have a world boss
  6. The one’s that do are old hat
  7. Don’t have the population to push events

And on and on.

I don’t know, it may not be a problem for many players at this time, and I’ll be honest, HoT will occupy me for many, many months… but do we just forget these places exist? it’s an entire game swept under the rug and I don’t know how to feel about that.

Combat Dynamics: GW1 Retrospective

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrigginPaco.4178

FrigginPaco.4178

This was a post I made in response to a forum entry asking whether or not the author should buy GW1.

Many other comments had already discussed the HoM benefits and the story components so I decided to focus on the combat – something I enjoyed about as much as the lore of the 1st game.

Skill interaction was the highlight of GW1 with regards to combat and I continue to believe that GW2 has a much more limited reach where that’s concerned. The drawback was that combat overall was still “slower” because the skills had such widely ranging effects, and a lot of time could be spent simply reading skill effects, at the beginning of learning to play, of course.

But… that was the whole point. The skill selection was so incredibly ample and varied, both for PvP and PvE. Builds for very profession numbered quite high and evenly amongst all of them and you could even make themed builds work well in legitimate combat settings depending on the situation.

Considering the fact that in GW2 weapons don’t have a 2nd set of skills that you can individually swap for each 1-5 skill, you can only really have diversity through the 6-0 skills and the trait system. Even for engineers*** who can’t switch primary weapons, that’s like limiting 1/4th their potential combat customization (my rationale being 1/4th 1-5, 1/4th 6-0, 1/4th stats from armor, and 1/4th traits).

I understand why they’ve done it that way, fewer skills to learn means less time learning how to enjoy the game before you actually start playing the game. This benefits a more casual audience which I’m not directly opposed to, but for people seeking more from the potential that the game engine has to offer, since it’s a modified gw1 engine I believe that they’re not tapping into what gw2 could be.

Before I digress further, let me simply state that GW1 is different for many of the reasons people have been stating. It is very customizable where combat is concerned, but that’s the limit to its really strong points. There is simply more “stuff” in gw2.

  • I’m fully aware that they have access to kits. *

This is geared more towards veteran GW1 players, though all opinions are welcome here.

…while he already completed his legendary a long time ago, even though I’ve spent more time in GW2 than him (I had ~1500h while he had ~900h). Additionally he has found two precursors and is currently sitting with a huge amount of gold, without spending any real money.
Basically we did the same thing: doing boss events, dungeons and silverwastes.
I got frustrated and decided to grind even more.

I had a similar issue with a buddy of mine, but there’s more to the story, like there usually is.

I’m a GW1 veteran and I’ve played GW2 since the betas were out. I played since the inception and quit for the entire duration of the 1st season of the living story, which I didn’t know was going on at the time. It was also partly due to lack of content… partly because I didn’t have any RL friends who played GW2 at the time, and partly because I was frustrated with the watering down of the skill interractions from GW1 to GW2.

About a year ago I managed to get some friends to join and we played together very often. We did Teq runs, dungeons, silverwastes, fractals, sPvP – a variety of things. One Teq run however, my buddy who had MAYBE accrued 250 hours of play time compared to my 1000ish got a Dusk drop. My first precursor drop was about a month and a half ago. Nearly 3 years after release. He had around 129% MF from Luck, but this was Teq. It wasn’t a mob drop. It was from the chest, which if I remember correctly, isn’t affected by MF.

Since then I’ve managed to finish a different legendary and I’m holding on to my innitial pre, but I have no idea how unlucky I must have been for it to take that long for one to drop. If I had to spend 3 years… closer to 2.3 years since I took a long break… to get my first pre… man… That’s serious business.

As far as if I’m enjoying it now? I would say I am for sure. The game has only grown and improved over the years in my opinion, but I just wish there was something to do that isn’t a weekend event until HoT launches.

That’s really all. I understand they’re busy making sure it’s all ready to launch, and I’m not demanding content to be generated just because I want more, but I think this is a very common thought shared amongst us in the community.

How many characters do ppl have?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

FrigginPaco.4178

Some trivia: the cap is 69 characters! Wow!

I have 16 total so far.

Two from each class, even split between male and female.

Mostly humans, 3 norn, 1 asura, 2 sylvari, 1 charr. One character has 100% (Before the removal of the mists as a requirement! XD)

My rationale was getting some characters with specializations and some dedicated to the vanilla professions. This was before the info was revealed that they would take up trait slots to actually give you the specialization. Still, I like having a good pool of characters to choose from. They’re all unique and fit some sort of theme.

I have 3 extra slots, 2 for rev and 1 more for whatever may come next.

Unfortunately, I feel that the dry spell of content is going to continue till at the very least near the release. They may do some sort of a launch party thing, but beyond that…

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say they’re focusing on reducing bugs and making sure everything is set on the right track for the release.

Perhaps it would be more prudent to give F2P players access to only EotM, as an example, and to monitor the interaction between these new accounts and older ones, if that’s possible.

Increasing Need for Build Template

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrigginPaco.4178

FrigginPaco.4178

Most splendid community,

The need for a comprehensive Build Saving system has only increased over the time Guild Wars 2 has been out. Multiple changes to the trait lines and also individual traits have added new life to the game, this much is certain. However, even disregarding the addition of the class specializations to the game, we have finally begun to see a more diverse selection of builds per class, though some continue to suffer from a lack of versatility.

Fortunately, I’m not here to discuss the shortcomings of a few professions, but to advocate for the creation of a build saving system especially now that there are many more options available to players, or at least, there soon will be.

PvE, PvP, WvW all tend to ask players to change parts, if not, all of their build to adapt to the environments needs.

As a veteran from the original Guild Wars, I remember that the build template system was saved locally and I’m sure that it would only be a small thing to provide something similar to that experience in Guild Wars 2.

While I am aware that the development team has a great deal on their plate in this time with the release of the first expansion for our beloved game, I merely wish to bring what I believe to be an important issue back into the spotlight.

Thank you kindly for taking the time to read this!
