I love these roaming builds. I have a typical ‘kill fast and avoid being killed’ mindset when playing WvW. That said, what other classes would benefit from such a high mobility setup? I would assume that certain classes would fare weaker when running together. For example, reapers or dragonhunters.

I’ve been running a similar build for a long long time as well. My preference for PvP is to take Predator’s onslaught due to the fact that Ancient Seeds triggers the immobilise more often than not. To me, that increase in % of damage beats Lead The Wind. However. Lead the Wind is indispensable in WvW.

Personally, I have high difficulty in dealing with anything that has a high stability upkeep time. Warriors, Boon Rangers are two of those that I can’t exactly deal with. This is probably due to the fact that I can’t get my CCs to properly trigger. In addition, the warrior is excellent at closing gaps. Even by utilising my stealths (LB3, Smoke Scale Leap/Blast) I still find it difficult to deal with warriors. What’s your take on this?

LB Druid Power Build (WvW/PvP)

in Ranger

Posted by: Gannicus.4132

Build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJATRjEqQJL2yCGsAXLWyEsmkVA4A8M5WAPO4ZaOdoWi0rA-T1BEwAIuAAM3fU+B4IAwS9nHHCACPAgtKBLHcAwbvNgbD4WA-w

To start off, I would like to state that I do not play any other classes actively.
However, I have played longbow ranger for close to three years now and I have learnt to spot visual cues relating to other classes over the years. I mainly roam in WvW or queue in PvP using the identical build. Unfortunately, I do not have any roaming or pvp videos.

How I play this build. I tend to open up as much space from my opponents before bursting with longbow. Greatsword is more commonly used as a defensive weapon for blocks and leaps. My utilities allow me to clear 6 conditions while offering two stun breaks. While I normally run with Signet of the Hunt, I swap it out from time to time for “Sic Em”. Celestial spirit allows me to clear an additional 13 conditions which is especially useful for pesky condition mesmers, bersekers or reapers. The reason I chose Greatsword over staff is the fact that the great sword block allows me to block more attacks as opposed to that barrier on staff that only stops projectiles. Also, I’m accessing the game from Southeast Asia where the ping is far too high for me to effectively time my Vine Surge.

I chose this over the standard might stacking druid build as I prefer the ability to burst my opponents as fast as possible. The main detail I keep a lookout for before bursting is to ensure that my opponent does not have stability on.

Why it works: High damage/chance to catch your opponents off guard
Why it does not work: If you screw up the condition removal/stealths/dodges

The main bonus of having druid specced is that you are immediately able to utilise Ancient Seeds at the start of combat. It is a great trait that ensures that your target will be rooted as long as you stun/daze/knock back/launch them. How my combo chain works is try to ensure that my foe is rooted whenever I want to burst them for maximum effectiveness.

  1. Activate Signet of the Hunt
  2. LB1 (Long Range Shot) -> Usually crits for 2-3k cause of signet of the hunt
  3. LB5 (Point Blank Shot) + Quickening Zephyr -> Roots your enemy because of Ancient Seeds unless it’s blocked or nulified. Watch for warriors or guardians on this.
  4. LB2 (Rapid Fire). At this point, I send forth my Smokescale. It almost always shadowsteps to your enemy and starts to chomp away. Other pets will usually make a slow run for your enemy, screwing this important step up. This is where you also hit your pet F2, so that Beastly Warden triggers, taunting your foe. This is the part where your foe is usually at 50% health or so and trying to heal. Hence, Beastly Warden will play an important part in interrupting that heal.

What if your enemy does not die?

It’s ok. You’re not screwed yet. You have yet to utilise any of your defensive skills at the moment. You can drop a barrage infront of that enemy as they are almost always guaranteed to make their way towards you. Continue to drop long range shots (LB1) until they are close to you.
Then, you can either decide to:

  1. Use LB3 (Hunter’s Shot) to go into stealth
  2. Lightning Reflexes to break any stun/immob and roll back
  3. Swap to GS

Should you decide to go with (1), this is the part where you should make full use of that 3 second stealth and not screw it up. Make sure that your stupid pet is still attacking your foe and not following you. Utilizing the stealth, head in the opposite direction that your enemy is headed. You can either open in stealth but I suggest that you make full use of that 3 seconds to open up as much space as possible. Remember, your toughness is non-existent. By then, Ancient Seeds is off cool down and ready to be abused once again. I usually open with LB5 (Point Blank Shot) again in order to open up that space. It will also root my opponent to give me more leeway in placing myself for the next burst.

(2) Lightning Reflexes is useful if you are fighting anything with high burst. That dodge allows you to open up some space and allow yourself precious micro seconds to evade their burst.

(3) Sometimes, hunter’s shot may fail for a variety of reasons. You will not go into stealth and you will find your opponent breathing down your neck. You can swap to GS and hit #3 to block incoming attacks. If they do not have stability, you can knock them back provided that they are attacking you with melee attacks. You can also daze with #5 and maul with #2 assuming that they are not on stability. Do not attempt daze and maul if your opponents are already on stability because it’s a waste of the precious stun. It is also worth nothing that your Smokescale’s F2 ability only has a 16 second cooldown. You can stay in Greatsword in order to utilise that leap into stealth. Once again, make sure you leap away from your enemy.

What I do at this point is swap back into Longbow and repeat my combo chain. This time, I switch to my wolf instead to make use of the Fear provided by my wolf’s F2 ability.

PETS
Smokescale – Good auto attacks, offers [F2] smokescreen for stealth combos and also takes down your opponent.
Wolf – Takes down your opponent, [F2] Fear is useful for pushing away opponents who are far too close to you. Don’t use it if your opponents have stability or if your wolf is blinded.

VS OTHER CLASSES
I don’t play other classes. I used to spend more time in game but it has since been reduced to about half an hour to an hour daily since HOT launched. I also do not pay active attention to patch notes and do not know what are the meta builds for other classes. However, some typical behaviours never change and here are my general observations. Feel free to debate/ discuss. I’m only one person. I apply the same combo chain to all classes whenever their stability/stun breaks are on coold own. I did not list the name of their elite specialisations for simplicity sake.

Mesmers
Mesmers used to be really painful and a kitten to fight. With the condi food nerf and the introduction of druid I find them more manageable. I usually replace signet of the hunt for “Sic Em” when fighting Mesmers. Remember that entering into celestial spirit removes 13 conditions from you and it is very useful to get those thick stacks of confusion or torment off you. Against power Mesmers, It’s important to watch for their shatter and make full use of lightning reflexes + hunter’s shot.

Thieves
Pretty much the same as above. Replace Signet of the Hunt with “Sic Em”. Make sure that you have stability up as much as possible. Do not get caught in their staff attack chain. You will die. Make full use of your available stealth. Use your wolf to squeeze them out of shadow refuge with it’s F2 Fear. If you can’t, drop barrage onto the shadow refuge.

Warriors
With the introduction of HOT they just leap at you these days and try to throw things at you. I don’t really know how it works. My general advice is just to block as much as possible with your GS3, open up as much space as possible before engaging. Do not let them close the gap on you, you will die.

Guardians
Pretty dumb. They just lay traps and hope that you will walk into them before bursting you. Let your pets trigger the traps and pew them from far away. They will also shadowstep to you and drop traps. Make sure to utilise lightning reflexes to dodge as fast as possible. If you get caught in the traps for more than a second or so, you will die. There is also some chain that tethers onto you. I have yet to figure out what that exactly does. My observations are that as long as you open up as much space as possible when you are locked on by that, it will not affect you. I do so by using lightning reflexes + Swoop on Greatsword.

Elementalists
I don’t know. Celestial eles were nerfed and I think Elementalists are extinct.

Revenants
I haven’t played this class at all. All I know is that you want to again make use of your defensive capabilities to dodge the attacks on shiro form. There is some flappy wing attack when they swap to glint and it does a heck of a damage, be sure to dodge that. A simple dodge will do. Don’t attack when they are blocking and certainly do not attack when they are using the heal that heals them based on the damage that you deal to them, you are just being stupid if you do so.

Necros
A ton of conditions. Use your condi clears carefully. Chill will kill you if you are not careful. You can’t do anything if they have stability while in reaper other than to kite around them. Again, you can use your pets to trigger the marks the same way you trigger the guardian traps.

Engineers
Do not fire arrows at the spinning barrier thing, they reflect right back in your face. Drop barrage when they use the dome thing, make sure they do not get to hammer you or you will die. What you can afford to risk is to fire point blank shot at the spinning barrier if the engineer is close to you. While it will not affect the engineer, it will knock you back, opening up some space between the both of you. Do not do this if you are low on health.

Rangers
If your opponent is running a the meta druid, you will need to ensure that you do not get rooted. You will not last fighting toe to toe as it simply has more sustain than you. Use your stun breaks to get out of those and avoid the rapid fire with stealth. As long as you can do those two things, you will survive.

STOMPING
Classes that are easy to stomp – Guardian/Warrior/Ranger/Engineers/Necro/Revenant
You can easily hit the F2 button on your pet that will trigger the blind on your foe, ensuring that their downed ability does not affect you when you stomp. A stealth stomp also works against Warrior, Engineer, Necro or Revenant.

Classes that are trickier- Mesmer/Thief/Elementalist
Stability, stealth nor blindness wont help you stomp these classes. Hence, you have to decide if it is worth the try especially if there is enemy fire happening around the downed foe. If it is not worth the risk, drop a barrage and try to interrupt the enemy from being resurrected by their ally.

For stomps, I usually hit Lightning Reflexes immediately after I stomp to get out of enemy fire if necessary.

UNDERWATER
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA

That’s about all that I can think of. I would love to answer any questions or discuss in further detail any concerns that you may have with this build that I play.

REquest: mesmer roaming build

in Mesmer

Posted by: Gannicus.4132

My condition mesmer is just a monster in wvw. I am ticking at 26 thousand health, I build a asusra, so I have the radiation field. Last thief that tried to gank me got schooled when I dropped the radiation field right on top of me. Then the fun really began, when I threw the condition’s they tried to hit me with right back at em.

Just youtube condition mesmer 2016. I based my build off of that, then tweaked it to my play style. I just can not stress enough, Get Travlers Runes, any thing else, and your mesmer is just WAY to slow.

Best thing with my PU mesmer, 3 or 4 try and gank me, I stealth out, and I am long gone.

Hi, could you please link your build or your video? I couldnt determine which was yours on Youtube. I just started out on mesmer and could do with all the help that i can get.

Opinions of a casual WvW for the past 3 years

in WvW

Posted by: Gannicus.4132

Gannicus.4132

I have played WvW almost exclusively since launch. I have no idea what goes on in the living stories nor have I completed any of them. 90% if not all of my time is spent in WvW in game. What I loved about the old maps were the way the towers were built. I could find sneaky places to hide as a mesmer or build arrow carts on the second level of garrison or even some of the towers (NW tower). They were compact enough for a small group or even lone ranger like myself to defend. I enjoyed tormenting groups or even zergs to see how long it would take them to break the walls or gates.

With the new towers/keeps, all that fun seems to been have removed. Sure, we have more verticality. Yet, it all seems very one dimensional. The sense of taunting and tormenting my enemies seems to have all been removed when it comes to defending towers. I’ve spent some time exploring the maps and I do not get the same sense of wonder as I did when I discovered a new place to hide my mesmer for portals when the BL maps were launched initially. This feels like EoTM on steroids, which is ironic given that many of the dedicated WvW players disliked EoTM.

I would like to state that these are my very initial impressions of the new WvW. I have yet to face proper contest in the BLs as I only play during the SEA hours.

fellow mac users, try this solution.

I would like for you to delete the Guild Wars 2 folder located within your users Library folder. You can do this by following the instructions below:

Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer.
Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the Finder menu bar. A dropdown will appear.
While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” dropdown.
Once in the Library folder, open “Application Support” and locate the Guild Wars 2 folder.
Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.
NOTE – If you are unable to locate this folder, it is possible you are looking in the incorrect “Library” folder. As your system has multiple “Library” folders, please try the steps again to locate the proper folder.

The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will create a new version of the folder that you deleted. Please try this and see if it resolves your issue.

I did this and my client works now. yay!

Taking out condition removal from shouts in place for the new trait didnt seem to affect my survivability much due to high bursts of heal from AH coupled with mace healing traits. More meaningful objectives to fix zerging

in WvW

Posted by: Gannicus.4132

Gannicus.4132

As an avid WvW player since launch, I’ve seen a steady decline in WvW player population and efforts through the months. While I am a personal fan of roaming in small organised groups, I can understand that it can be incredibly frustrating with the current zerg/blob meta.

I had the idea of having more meaningful objectives within the map to diffuse zergs. For example, holding a camp should be more meaningful. If players were able to hold a camp and upgrade it for a specific period of time, NPCs can be sent out to speed up Yaks or even help upgrade surrounding keeps/towers. By making the holding/capturing/upgrading of camps central to game play, it would hopefully help to diffuse zerging and encourage more cooperative game play.
It would even be better if more micro objectives – more camps, outposts, were introduced into the map that affect how we would be able to upgrade our keeps/tower (Of course, it would be a miracle to see the WvW maps eventually being edited)

Having said so, I do understand that there are many flawed and dare I say, overdue changes that has to be made to WvW. No one cares about PPT, Defense is totally pointless (Why defend a T1 Keep/Tower when you can rezerg it for wxp and champ bag) and Bloodlust.

Perhaps if you would not jump to conclusions, winning/stacking does not matter to us a single bit. As far as I know you get zero rewards from WvW for winning. Greetings from Stormbluff Isle,

Our server is seeing bustling presence lately due to an influx of guilds from other servers during the NA prime time. However, we would be most delighted to have another group of Singaporean players on the same server as us. The current oceanic players consist largely of Australian/New Zealand and small proportions of players from Hong Kong. An example of a recent testimonial of Stormbluff Isle reads :

“[BÆST]Just moved here from DR.
AMAZING COMMUNITY.
I cannot stress that enough. We have been welcomed with open arms and our reputation for what we do in WvW has already gained some serious respect from inside the community. If you’re a WvW guild looking for a home this is it. I have yet to find a thing that I dislike about this server.

If you’re considering another server, stop, pick this one."

As the sole Singaporean guild in the server, we have been in Stormbluff Isle since December 2012 and we have seen it steadily rise in player activity and commitment towards WvW since the exodus that left many predicting that SBI would languish in the deeps. Not only did this not happen, we’ve managed to put up a resistance week after week. It is safe to say that those who stayed with Stormbluff after the exodus are here to stay for good as well.

We have a highly active player community that is one of the most impressive in the game, check it out at: http://www.stormbluffisle.com/
Senior players organise training sessions and often dispense invaluable advice through written guides in the forums.

We were actually hoping to bunker the hell out of hills considering that our server took every single tower/keep in the game leaving us nothing to do at all. So I guess you were one of those [SG] players that fought us in garrison. You guys handed our kitten to us for sure, had a hard time rallying the pugs to push in. And after we wiped you guys and headed for hills, le wild SBI zerg appears and took our garrison while we wiped at hills. To be honest, I’m sick of these match-ups, retaking our stuff only to lose it within the hour to a blob while we have maybe 10 defenders without any siege or supply. I think I’m gonna take a break from wvw for the rest of the week.

On a side note to those from [SG], halo fellow singaporeans

Hello to you. We enjoy this crazy pointless zerg in SBI as much as you do. It ruins much of the game play for us roamers.

Singapore Guild in SBI, for casual players!

in Looking for...

Confirm Guarantee Plus Chop [SG] is a Singapore guild located in SBI. We run havoc groups in WvW on weeknights from about 9 – 11PM depending on schedules. Due to the implementation of paid transfers, it has been incrementally difficult to find players of a similar timezone within the server (GMT+8 or Oceanic). If you are living within such a timezone and would like to WvW, do drop me a message at Sir Chopsalot ingame. We have been doing this for awhile now and we usually take camps/towers. We snipe the occasional keep as well when we see the chance. See you!

24/09/13 – Edit
As of now, we have managed to revitalise the guild to a stage whereby we can manage a solid presence in WvW in the weeknights. We have a decent roaming group of 8 – 10 and very recently we have been getting better at utilising our builds to get to the better of our enemies. We even managed to hold garrison with 8 players against a sizable group of NSP for a period of time.
“So I guess you were one of those [SG] players that fought us in garrison. You guys handed our kitten to us for sure, had a hard time rallying the pugs to push in.”

As it stands, we have a comfortable 15 – 20 active at night with half of us in WvW and the other PvX. That said, if you are looking for a zerging /hardcore /all rounder guild, there are tons out there and we are definitely not for you. However, if you are looking for a place to ‘hang out’ after a long day with no obligations, we are more than happy to take you with open arms.

Confirm Guarantee Plus Chop [SG] is a Singapore guild based in Stormbluff Isle. We are looking for more players who live around the timezone of GMT+8 to join our guild. We do fractals/dungeons on weekday nights and the occasional WvW. As the core of our guild is formed by members who played Guild Wars 1 together, we take this game with a heavy pinch of salt and do not partake in silly game politics. Join us if you are looking for a casual guild around this timezone!

The easiest way to fix this is for trebs to one hit walls. That way elementalists won’t have to stand for that long infront of walls and people wont have to use treb for ages. BOOM. PROBLEM SOLVED.

SYN is primarily based in Singapore and is in the process of reviving interest in WvW with the pending content updates. We’re recruiting on Sanctum of Rall (SoR) and run WvW every GMT+8 night.

If you’re interested in tactical, organized small squad play and not zerging around in large numbers, do apply @ http://www.synapse-guild.com/

I come from a casual guild and WvW simply offers no fun to us at all. We go into the map, we win a tower, we lose a tower. Repeat. After 2 -3 hours we achieve nothing and we go to sleep. GvG offered us the ability to have fun as a casual guild in GW1 and this has simply not been achieved in GW2.

WvW - No fun for small casual guilds

With the impending paid server transfers looming, I’m once again witnessing a death of a server (SBI) which I transferred to with my guild mates a few weeks ago from Sorrow’s Furnace. What happened at Sorrow’s Furnace was that there was never a sufficient amount of PvP-ers in WvW and whenever my guild wanted to play WvW we were always stuck with the option of taking a few supply camps or defending one tower. The end result was always mundane and pointless as we would be back to square one after a few hours of WvW. We do not feel like we have done anything of importance toward our world nor do we feel that we have contributed anything.

The only way for small casual guilds to have any impact at all in WvW is to tag along with ‘big servers’ or ‘big zergs’. All in all, I am hoping that WvW can become less of a number game. Maybe things will change with the upcoming patches, maybe they won’t.

Confirm Guarantee Plus Chop [SG] is a casual Singaporean guild in stormbluff isle looking for players to join us for some simple pve/wvw at night on the GMT+8 timezone. We have been playing together as a guild since Guild Wars 1 and we have no bizzare politics floating around. We are seeking to increase our active player population by 3 – 5. As a small guild of 55 members, we seek to focus on quality and not quantity.

If you are a player who lives around the GMT+8 timezone or if you wish to join us, drop me a PM/Mail at Sir Chopsalot and i’ll get to you ingame.

Sorrow’s Furnace: The server you love to transfer from.

Seriously, it seems like we lost half our WvW group thursday and they simply haven’t come back. Those of us that remain can’t keep going like this.. Gigantic morale blow.
Last week, I thought we finally found our balance and would have a fun, up-to-the-buzzer fight, win or lose.
I’ll be cheering for you from tier 8 HoD.

We lost most of our hardcore WvW players a LONG time ago. Those who are left are those who split their time between WvW and PvE. And considering how hoppin’ PvE has been lately, I suspect it’s more a case of folks taking a WvWcation rather than loosing a large portion of our population to other servers.

Last week was a lot of fun. This week is rather meh. It’s never fun when one server completely dominates, whether you’re on the giving or receiving end of things.

Times were better when we had magiciian and zadok and those people from obey.
