I don’t know where you get this AAA/“world class” stuff. That’s meaningless marketing-speek. Most of us only know what we see and experience for ourselves. Many of us had to wait 2-3 weeks to be able to communicate meaningful posts to them because they wouldn’t put the forum up. That did not feel like a step toward good communcation.

Apparently you run around in a giant group of people (we will hereafter refer to this group as The Zerg) in the zone called Orr and you wait for one of several “dynamic events” that repeat every few hours. This is how people farm part of what they need for their legendary or something. You could also run the dungeons.

Why did you guys buy GW2?

My boyfriend pre-purchased it so I did… for him (mostly). My instinct toward new games at this point in my life, after being burned so many times, is always to wait and read the reviews, but he has more trouble with patience than I do

Do you guys think this is something Arena Net would actually ever fix?…

Ever?… maybe. Soon? Reeeeally doubtful. They have thousands of things to fix and I’m sure they’re feeling the pressure to make new stuff since a lot of the initial players are 80.

Halo.1064

It’s related to the FOV, and I describe it as being trapped in a 1974 station wagon, craning my neck (mouse-looking around) to see all of the beautiful stuff outside of the car.

I heard they felt it would make the game FEEL more epic. I haven’t met anyone that loved it though. A lot of people say it makes them dizzy. It made my neck hurt for the first week but I think I trained myself to mostly ignore and deal with it. It’s not good, in any case.

I actually think this (also) contributes to the single-player feel. People could be quite near you and in many cases you can’t see them.

GW2-For now Single Player Game with an option for Multiplayer, your opinion???

Halo.1064

This is wrong. It’s not possible to play the group events without other players.

Sitting there waiting for other people to show up to do a group event doesn’t feel any better than sitting around spamming for a tank/healer. It’s still waiting around for people in order to accomplish a group activity. I guess they didn’t kill that part

Ironically, it was probably ex-WoW players (which there are millions of) who hyped it up since many of them are so desperate for a new MMO.

Halo.1064

I switched from staff to scepter/dagger and I think it’s helped. I still die maybe a few times a night while leveling though.

And I do use all of my attunements. Earth 4 knocks mobs down, and is great for getting off your heal. Earth 5 does a lot of AoE damage but has a long cast time. Air 4 and 5 (which knocks down all the mobs around the target) can help dictate range or help you escape. I have the traits that give boons when switching attunements, so just switching into water puts regen on me. Then you have your 2 heals there. And fire has the combo starter 4 which I follow with arcane wave and fire 2/3 (finishers, I believe). But yeah, if the fight is any length I’ve probably visited at least 3 of the attunements. From what other people saying, that’s wayyyyyy more work than other classes have to do but it seems what they want us to do. Sitting in one attunement autoattacking, waiting for cooldowns, when you have 3 other stances makes no sense. I’m basically pushing many buttons if I’m in a long fight, switching around and using every ability like mad.

I also run around a lot at times. Stay mobile, dodge if you’re taking damage. And you have to babysit your health bar carefully if there’s more than 1 mob. Don’t start healing too late.

There are also utilities and traits that can increase survivability. The personal heal I use reduces incoming damage by 33% for a few seconds after, and if I need more of a shield I use the utility that reflects damage for ~5 seconds. The greater elemental does a lot of DPS and even tanks (but it also runs around aggroing every other mob or enemy supply crate in the area :/ ).

Mist Form might actually be useful if you could not be tracked while in it. As it is, the guys who downed me just follow the smoke trail and kick me in the kittens when I become corporeal.

That has been my experience. Maybe if someone is with you it’s better but there’s no point when alone.

Halo.1064

I think one of the problems is that when soloing, most classes play pretty much exactly alike. You pick a type of damage (Condition, Crit, Power), a survival attribute (Vit, Toughness, Healing), then you find a weapon combination that works best with that combination and use it for the rest of eternity.

I was telling my friend that I just felt very “meh” about my toons. None of them really stands out as playing differently. It’s almost like they are the same toon just with different weapons. The mages (ele) aren’t powerhouse damage dealers, you can’t get into being a healer or tank due to the attempted assasination of the trinity.

If everyone is equal then you kind of lose the flavor of being something unique or doing a role well because there is only one role and everyone is that. I can’t really save someone nor can they save me. I can “support” them and watch as they run right out of the heal I tried to throw for them (oops). I have tried to keep an open mind about everything but that’s kinda where I’m at.

So much negativity lately. Is GW2 doomed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Halo.1064

Whats scary to me, as a MMO, is the incredible loneliness of the game. Level chat is barren for hours, literally. The entire nature of the game is anti social. The shared kills and such are pure genius, but the Achilles heel is that they don’t build community. The feel of the game is very much like a single player game, even the dungeons to a large degree are Zerg fests where little to no conversation or strategizing takes place.

I’ve been feeling that way. I refered to TOR as “that game where no one talks” because everyone was so engrossed in their cut-scenes, but this game seems to also have that problem. If I run into a hard skill point mob, I can just wait until someone shows up, then we both silently kill it and then silently go our own way :/

Halo.1064

Not much. I’m scared of what awaits me at 80 too. That was always my concern about this game. Also I may have burned myself out a bit by playing too much the fist 2 weeks I will still likely play but it doesn’t help to come here and read about all of the balance issues and the experience of Orr. And crafting.

Not feeling the Dev Love

in Ranger

Halo.1064

The problem is most of the nerfs or changes at the end of the beta turned most of the classes with the currently biggest problems into one-trick ponies. Balance changes should NOT have been made after two days of playing each month, rather they should have focused on the glaring bugs that plagued classes even during beta, especially Engineer, Necro, and pets in general.

Ranger is…

That’s really depressing, but I’m glad for the overview. You sound like you’ve played most of the classes.

Hopefully they will be able to work this stuff out in the coming weeks :/

Your thoughts about Orr

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Halo.1064

Halo.1064

I have an 80 ranger. I’ve pretty much decided to reroll until 80 looks more fun and character balance starts again.

Part of the reason I kept making alts was to slow down my path to 80. Higher-level content is almost always less polished (cause it was less tested) and I wanted to give them time. Now I have a level 60 and 2 30s.

Orr is hands down some of the worst zones in the game.

But then I started reading a lot of comments like that, and now I’m feeling a bit demotivated altogether. Plus I think I was burning out on running from one “emergency” (aka DE) to the next and also I was starting to experience the mob-packing even around level 60. I’m thinking, “If I’m already annoyed by this, what these people are telling me about Orr is really not going to make me happy.” Because it sounds the same but worse :/

Well hopefully they can re-work it a bit. No sub, so no big worries I guess

Well I don’t know if these numbers are accurate, but there’s no way I’m grinding mykittenoff for gear at the level cap. I thought this game was supposed to break away from the tired, old paradigm(?)

And hey, that’s ok. I have other games I enjoy, and since there’s no sub, it’s really ok that I do something else for a bit. I just can’t go back into the full grind-box.

Why are Karma recipes soulbound?

in Crafting

There’s an overall lack of clarity on what is soulbound to who. They need to put that in the tooltip of every souldbound item you own, and these recipes need to say ‘soulbind on acquire’ (which they don’t).
