I was always of the opinion that the story would have been better served had Elder Dragons simply been beyond our capacity to kill and that the actual adventure would have been in surviving and finding arcane ways to put them back to sleep ( hopefully for a millenia or two )

The human vs ants analogy they went with while hyping the game doesn’t hold well when we can just walk up and end them.

Almost everyone I run into makes Charr as tall as possible ( even if it means they look like they are moving in slow motion because of it ) and Asura as small as possible for PvP. You can make an Asura pretty “large” if you push the slider up and choose a bulkier build. I see details on my Asura just fine.

Discussing this with a friend last night: One of the best war axe design in terms of proportions (versus the character and between its own components: head vs handle), is the simple, humble weaponsmithing crafted generic axe.

While looking a model to transmute a pair of overly flashy crimson red ascended axes I was mentioning that I’d probably be happy with an updated “quality material” version of the generic axe.

I don’t know: same shape but slightly larger head and thicker metal handle with some kind of anti-slip pattern and medium sized spiked counter weight at the pommel.

Lol I can see it clearly in my head ! Anyway, my Charr demands a proper axe that doesn’t look like a toy ! :p Make it so ! :p

It could spawn an entire set of such low frills weapons…

There is currently no enemy that would target Lion’s Arch.

None of the dragons are anywhere close to Lion’s Arch and we don’t have a villain that would be interested in destroying Lion’s Arch.

How about we destroy something else next? Maybe Divinity’s Reach?

Another city being destroyed would serve no purpose at this point, but there is something that probably will happen in DR given the krytan politics atm, the resurgence of the white mantle.

DR might become a civil-war zone with hostile mantle npcs attacking the loyalist queens seraph/shining blade and civilians.

I expect that Jennah will have a proper assassination attempt on her life this time, not just the one that scarlet tried but something significantly more aggressive by Cadecus and his followers as a last-ditch effort to conquer the city by force.

I do believe this, Jennah will be injured in the final battle, quite badly, much like the pale tree was, taking her out of the picture will destablaise the unity of the world further as the tree and jennah really served as two of the only real advocates for peace among the leadership.

Which could lead to some interesting storylines in future.

The way I see it, DR would become an internal battlefield with streetways filled with blood and fire, some buildings being burned down and certain parts of the city being locked off by the Seraph to prevent the Mantle getting inside.

Then the Ministry betrays them from within, causing even more havoc as they force open the gates and let the mantle make their move.

That would be very interesting but.. much too dark for Anet.

I can deal with random generic human NPCs changing appearance. What I find harder to brush off is when NPCs change gender. There are several cases throughout the game of Charr males sounding like females and vice-versa.

Legendary Light Armor Set style

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Harak.8397

The Heavy set seems to be human style by default.

I’d really love it if the Legendary Light Armor set was sylvari themed.
Since it is animated, it would look cool if when unsheathing the weapon, flowers bloomed on the set, and wilted off when the weapon is sheathed.

Your artists are very talented. I’m sure they can come up with something that is sylvari themed, animated, and phenomenal.

I’m sorry but everything is “human styled” by default. It’s designed on and for humans and then hammered into submission to fit on other races until it looks “good enough”. As a Charr player I’m not bitter at all over this

(Still I get your meaning and it would look cool indeed )

It’s not the graphics that stops me from playing but the actual gameplay. No jumping, no moving during casting, no gliding, instanced maps, no trading post, how dead the maps feel without events and how the roaming mobs in their eternal circuits now seem so artificial, to name a few reasons.

That’s exactly how I feel about it. It was fun for its time but that game did NOT age well.

Let yourselves be inspired by the Charr in the middle with the bandoliere. ( I mean you own that particular piece of art anyway ) A chest piece that’s mostly just a harness for ammunition. ( Something that would let fur patterns/skin show through.

I don’t have a clue what he found in the Mists and like everyone else I am curious.

On the other hand, him getting reeled in by Iron Legion personel is just logical. You work in the Black Citadel, you report to the master of the House. Blood and Ash are guests in there. They have their own agenda obviously but there is one Imperator in charge and he’s decided that Rytlock has been remiss in his duties.

Back in WW2, Canadian, Australians, etc reported to British commanders because it was all nominally a British campaign. Same applies here.

Perhaps something like intra racial faction ?

Humans : Ministry, Shining Blade and Seraph
Charr: Iron, Blood and Ash Legion
Sylvari: Wardens, Tenders ( making stuff up here ) and Wanderers
Asura: Those 3 colleges they have
Norn: Wolfborn, (Beyond that I have no clue.) Hunters? Adventurers ?

Anyway, the idea is to have those factions inside each races for which you could do stuff, gain reputation, access to cool race appropriate gear ( yes even the charr ) etc…

I love everything about the Charr, from the way the character stands to the way they run on all fours. I only really dislike the absolute lack of armor choices that don’t clip or make them look goofy… and let’s not even mention the hair style “non” choices ( all fatal flaws for a game that touts itself as having no endgame but cosmetics )

I have charr: Warrior, Guardian, Engineer, Elementalist, Necromancer and Mesmer (female a that)

It’s the only beast race in any MMO I’ve played that was done right… and then the game got live, not enough people felt like I do so the Charr race as a whole got left twisting in the wind to become second class citizen to the devs who created them. Now they are mostly a joke race with goofy 80s pink or cyan Glam Metal band hair cuts.

Yes, I’m a little salty

[Suggestion] More skirt outfits for charr

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harak.8397

Harak.8397

If I was a male charr my idea of an attractive female would probably stand in three words : Sleek and deadly. There is nothing dainty or “feminine” as we humans define the word about Charr females.

Actually alot of times Charr of any genre wearing outfits ( and most light armor )look like what happens when someone dresses up his or her cat to make it look “cute”.

It just doesn’t work.

I’d like to see more culturaly acurate armor for charr that showed more of their fur patterns however.

My second warrior ( first one is Charr and thus rather limited IMO )

T2 Helm
Bram’s Chestplate
Aetherblade Leggings
Phalanx Gauntlets and boots
Sylvari T3 cultural shoulder
Dominant dye color is Pyre

The Hammer is Entropy because I happen to find it… would love Dreamthistle skins actually.

Was hoping to give her a sleek, unincumbered look. Minimal armor for better mobility, etc…

Is anyone happy with this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harak.8397

Harak.8397

I’m happy with the game… now that I caved in and changed my main from Charr to Sylvari, I can now make use of this game’s end content ( cosmetics )

Still, this is the best MMO I’ve played since I started in this genre in 2004. There are alot of things, details really, that people take for granted in GW2’s design that when you go play another MMO you find seriously lacking. Outstanding character animations, instanced ressource nodes, shared, account wide vault, a world that feels alive ( as long as you stop and take some time to actually look at it happening ), massive amount of customisation ( as long as you don’t play charr as I said above :P ).

Sure there are things you can find elsewhere and even in better quality but never ( not yet at least) all in one place.

I won’t mention “balance” as that is a concern for the PvP crowd of which I am not. I do wish they finally get what they are clamoring for… as long as it doesn’t cripple the PvE game for others like me.

Top questionable decision Anet have made.

As a charr player and this game’s informal joke race, I just gave up any hope of seeing them come up with charr hair styles that don’t belong in a 1980’s hair metal band.

The charr armies are beset by several terrible foes, none of which more so than the occasional lack of hair spray.

The charr are soldiers, one whould expect “some” hair styles to reflect that somewhat.

?

All of these?

sigh No… those are the only ones that actually work well. They also happen to be the original styles. You missed the point.

Honestly, some of the best looking characters i have seen are the ones who dont tend to stick out to much. I really cant stand the obnoxious color schemes that ive seen(totally pink charr etc) (IMO they look stupid). To each their own though, i try to make my characters follow a theme for each one, so.

This exactly, the characters I play tend to look like they belong in the world. If I want to look at clowns however I go to DR or LA near the bank/Mystic well.

Considering they removed the “dark” elements from the original personal story when they launched in China ( related or not ) I don’t see them giving the players difficult moral decisions or grim consequences in the expansion. ( The tamini kill markers don’t even have skull on them anymore and that’s just one example of this current trend of “sanitization” going on )

Sylvari Questions: Death and More

in Lore

Harak.8397

On the various Dragon Minions: Some link was made earlier between Sons of Svanir and Sylvari considering their link to a Dragon. Aren’t we mistaking the Sons for the Icebrood in that regard ?

In Edge of Destiny, when Hoelbrak comes under attack by Jormag’s minion, those are Icebrood, (some even showing signs of violent death) not Sons of Svanir whom I liken more with sect fanatics than actual “minions” under the control of a greater entity.

That would make the Sylvari far closer to Mordremoth that the Sons are to Jormag in my opinion.

Playing a Sylvari now...

in Lore

Posted by: Harak.8397

Harak.8397

Episode 3 hints that Mordremoth’s control over sylvari is highly tied to the individual’s own willpower.

Weaker will means they can be turned by Mordy. But stronger will – like the PC no doubt – will be able to resist.

However that would imply that every Sylvari that joined the Pact was weak willed, which I find simplistic.

So about charrs...[Suggestion/Question]

I agree. Wild, videogamey “novelty” hair styles are cool and all, but don’t always suit the personality/look of the character we may have in mind. Some more variations on “real” styles would be appreciated.

The amount of crap in this game that breaks immersion is fine, until megaservers happened… Now RPers and those who like RPers but don’t actually RP have to put up with “Yolo Swaggins” in neon blue hair running around everywhere.
Quite true. Neon blue / pink Charr with Super Saiyen hair are an eyesore. Did I mention Charr could use some less “clownesque” hair styles too ? I know being the joke race is cool and all but some of us DID appreciate the original setting.
Explanation for Sylvari actions

in Lore

Posted by: Harak.8397

Harak.8397

I very much doubt none of the Sylvari in the pact fleet were Dreamers, or that all of those present were weak willed ( as suggested elswhere). Those were Sylvari that joined the pact to fight the Dragons, they were courageous and determined. From my understanding, close proximity the their actual Elder Dragon root ( pun intended) “rebooted” them to their default function. ( just another theory )

On a related note, I don’t see the Courtiers as default sylvari behavior either ( meaning Dragon influenced ). They always came across to me as the “mustache twirling evil” trope and that does not apply the Elder Dragons’s modus operandi… but that’s another discussion.

I too am curious about the status of Malyck’s people though.

I knew we couldn't trust them! *SPOILER*
