a) again burst skills are not super useful for pve, they are primarily for pvp, in dungeon (especially for boss fights) you want to keep your adrenaline at max because it gives damage boost to you for the amount of adrenaline you have build, you only use burst when the mob/boss is about to die and the burst will finish them off.

When was the last time you played Warrior? Warriors have to use burst skills to maintain 20% damage boost now.

Revenant Trait Discussion and Feedback

There’s so many thread focused on Revenant skills/weapons when I feel the most dire problems this BWE are the underwhelming traits. Don’t get me wrong, the skills/weapons need more work but they’re seen good improvement from the last test drive. However, their traits hasn’t even been touched. Several of the traits go so far as to be copy paste of other class’s trait.

  • Swift Termination – Necro’s Close to Death. I mean, it’s a good damage modifier but it’s a copy paste. I’d rather see something more Revenant defining in terms damage boosting.
  • Redeeming Protection – Engi’s Protection Injection. Copy paste.
  • Eluding Nullification – Pretty much a lesser version of Ele’s Evasive Arcana Cleansing Wave dodge roll. You can argue that EA is a GM trait but it still doesn’t justify the current state of Eluding Nullification.
  • Cleansing Channel – Pretty much Necro’s Death Shroud condi removal.
  • Invigorating Flow – Similar to Thief’s Assassin’s Reward but with an ICD. Lackluster Master trait.

And then there’s Grandmaster traits like Destructive Hammer and Steadfast Rejuvenation having silly RNG factors for proccing. Why they can’t be 100% proc is beyond me. Not to mention both are extremely underwhelming as GM traits.

There’s several other weird and underwhelming traits that I feel Anet can improve on or just replace and create new ones. To sum it up, about 80% of Revenant’s traits have 1 effect at best(most are underwhelming) compared to what other classes have now ever since they overhauled trait lines. Take for example Warrior’s Forceful Greatsword gives 20% CD reduction, might on crit, and a 10% damage increase as a Master trait. This trait has 3 effects bundled into 1 amazing trait. It’s like Anet were too afraid to make Revenants initially powerful.

I’m even surprised they haven’t created traits that improves Energy generation or slows degen nor have they created weapon specific traits. Hell they could tie weapon specific traits with Energy generation or energy reduction for weapon skills which would help with some expensive energy skills.

Overall there needs to be more synergy with weapon + traits and stronger defensive traits. I just hope a lot of what Revenant needs isn’t stuffed into Glint’s Elite spec. So please Anet, make Revenant feel more Revenant instead of literally copying ideas from other classes …

Despite everyone hating on Blacktruth, he brings up many valid points even if he sounds arrogant. I’m not even sure why some of you think Blacktruth is just flat out wrong either. As someone who has been loyal to Warrior since day 1, I’ve also been frustrated with Warriors lately but the reason isn’t solely because the class itself is in a terrible state. I’d even say Warriors are in a good place mechanic wise but would like to see some areas buffed. However once we start comparing Warriors to other classes, we begin to see Warriors being lackluster. That’s because other classes have ridiculous gimmicks/trait combinations that often put them above what Warriors can do in nearly every specific role. DD eles have ridiculous combat sustain and support, current Mesmers CC and deal high damage like Warriors but safer and forgiving, Thieves have higher mobility and instant spike damage, and other condi specs apply higher pressure and safer than condi Warrior.

Currently certain classes are able to abuse the kitten out of instant cast skills and spammable active defenses while dishing out high damage. IMO, Warrior is the epitome of what GW2 PvP should be: obvious animations on powerful skills and players being properly punished/rewarded for missing/landing crucial skills. Instead we have classes that can toss out insta-cast CC/damage whenever they kitten feel like it cuz the only thing that counters this is through unreliable prediction. So until Anet tones down and actually balances classes around cast times and risk/reward, Warriors will continue to be lackluster. And please don’t give Warriors a Berserker Stance-like skill again just to bring them up to par …

Good dueling build?

Harkan.9017

You look like one of those players that need to l2p. Naturally other classes will have active defenses, I won’t deny that. Your job is to bait them out and land a hammer cc chain after that.

Other than mesmers and elementalists, I’m not having issues dueling against other classes. Oh, and care to tell me what you would rather replace hammer with?

Says the person who’s currently using Shoutbow for duels and in a dueling server no less. I almost always speak from a higher level of play and not some random bad you find in WvW or a sPvP dueling room. I can say the same as you, I beat all classes with high winrates even Mesmers if they make enough mistakes for me. And that’s the thing, there are more unskilled players than there are skilled.

On the other hand, it sounds like you need to fight better players if you think baiting dodges and active defenses is so easy with Warrior. For example in a Ham/GS build, the main way you’re going to bait anything is with Whirlwind, Rush(lol), Bull’s Charge if you take it, and sheath/Weapon swap cancelling Hammer CCs. As the opponent, the main thing they have to watch out for are Hammer skills, especially ES, because it sets up your combos. Anything outside of a well used WW and obvious Hammer tells, you often won’t output enough pressure against the likes of a skilled Mesmer, Guard, Ele, Thief, and Ranger without resorting to Rampage. Before the adrenaline nerf, you could actually force dodges/actives with little drawbacks. Now? Not so much. Of course this is only one example of a build and other builds will have different results against other classes, like Shoutbow.

Mace/Shield is an alternative to Hammer. If you can’t see why, judging from your other posts, then I don’t have anything to say to you.

What do Warriors do Better?

in Warrior

Posted by: Harkan.9017

Harkan.9017

To somewhat reiterate the complaints on Warriors that we’ve all heard time and time again, Warrior in design is a simple class. We all know Warriors have obvious and long tells but when the skill lands, it’s usually devastating in damage or CC or both. The Inexperienced and the supposed “experienced” players complain because they take full Warrior combos that destroy them, get rag dolled by CCs, and lesser complaints like mobility(lol please), “highest HP and armor(cuz that matters)”, “wtf Healing Signet op sustain”, and many others. Due to Warrior’s relative ease of use, these players jump on the bandwagon for 5 mins and wreck other inexperienced players. So the circlejerk began and Warrs became a target of complaints that led to both justified and much more unjustified nerfs.

Let me take an example from WoW during the WotLK expac. Protection specced Warrs were akin to if GW2 Warriors had GS + Sword mobility, Mace/Shield + Hammer lockdown, and Eviscerate all in one build. Prot Warrs could lockdown a single target for 10+ seconds while dealing huge burst damage at the same time and often dropped clothies in a single combo. They had incredible mobility to stick on targets and amazing damage mitigation skills that allowed them to be defensive and offensive at the same time. They were later nerfed in damage and mobility.

While GW2 Warrs were never OP like pre-nerfed Prot Warrs, there were several resemblances that subjected them to complaints and their eventual nerfs: CC + high damage in multiple skills and the ability to stick on a targets face while ignoring/mitigating incoming damage. Hammer damage has been considerably nerfed over time and our ability to stick on targets has lowered due to nerfs/bugs and buffs to other classes. Warriors current lifeline, Rampage, has an almost complete package of CC + immense damage, damage mitigation, and difficulty in peeling unless focused. This skill has become one of the main complaints of the current state of Warriors but even this skill has several ways to counterplay. As you can see, there’s a trend in what players complain about: they absolutely despise things that can sit on their face for extended periods while mitigating damage and dishing out damage and/or CC at the same time.

However, that’s where the legitimate complaints end. I’m not advocating for Warriors to be unstoppable juggernauts like when Anet had a light bulb pop in their head and gave us Berserker Stance, but without such abilities it leaves much to be desired. Those players who bandwagoned to play Warriors do not understand what it’s like to truly play Warrior and their underlying problems. Due to Warriors being inherently melee based and thus subjected to kiting, whiffing our telegraphed skills is extremely punishable. The amount of invuln, invis, blocks, and blind spam the game currently has exacerbates it even further. We went from the game’s free kill to OP Hambow to OK Hambow to Shoutbow and now barely holding on with Rampage. Honestly I feel a lot of this falls on Anet’s philosophy on Warriors where they designed them to be simple and until that changes, I do not see Warriors changing for the better. I think it’s best to wait for many heavy balance changes to be made before determining what roles Warriors can do. It’s just a sad time to be playing a Warrior.

Secondly, hammer is telegraphed. But if you actually learnt how to land it after dodge frames or after your opponent has used up both dodges, it’s an easy stun lock for you.

Because dodging is the only way to evade Hammer attacks right? If I only had to count how many dodges the enemy did, Warrior would be a kittening god in this game and I’m not even exaggerating.

hello invis/invuln/blind/block spam oh can’t forget about you either elevation, pleasure getting wrecked by you

Harkan.9017

I’ve had much better experiences using GS + Mace/Shield compared to Ham/GS. Ham/GS is still good and it’s doing way more damage than before but that’s just it. Damage. In return, Warrior lost the ability to spec Leg Specialist on the side and is now forced to choose between Burst Mastery and Merciless Hammer. Not to mention the abundance of blocks, blinds, invuln, and stealth that the game has now makes landing Hammer skills extremely difficult and unrewarding when you finally do. Afterwards Warriors are pretty much at the mercy of kiting and the insane damage other classes can output.

M/S is basically the defensive version of Hammer. You bait out enemy burst, close the distance and set up the usual stun→HB. It’s still troublesome to fight Mesmers, Thieves, Guardians, and blind spam Eles but what can you do …

^^^^ I agree with this guy 100%.

currently warr don’t have enough dmg or sustain to deal with those that knows how to play ( tpvp ).

Usually when i fight any warr … if you drag it out, kite them they will wear down eventually.

the class is still playable but it’s not 1v1 hero anymore

I think they need to bring back DMG from hammer , axe , bow that they nerfed a long time ago…

TBH more damage won’t help Warriors in the game’s current state. We’re still the most telegraphed class in the game. Even right now, our damage is quite high but if we don’t land those hits, it won’t matter at all. This is further exemplified by the fact that there is an abundance of blinds now more than ever. Blinding Ashes, Shatter blind, Guardians, and Thief in general make attempting to use skills so god kitten frustrating.

It does double fire shield but in duration. 5 sec → 10 sec.

It’s because they know that if they made stat customization possible (i.e. being able to configure each piece of gear like in PvE/WvW), extreme stat combinations would be mostly overrun by hybrid stat combinations. Instead, they want you to make a deliberate choice from a set of stats and work around that, instead of every build blending into some grey variety of a berserker-magi-rabid-cleric-sentinel mix, or some such.

It also means newer players face less of a skill floor as far as min-maxing is concerned.

But I think the removal of attributes from trait lines now warrants this sort of functionality, even if it just means reinstating the old gem system with the amulets.

My bad, I should have made myself more clear. I know the reason why they created the current amulet system. What I meant by them stopping at those two amulets was that Anet could have created several more amulets that have two major and two minor stats that we currently see in Crusader and Marauder to alleviate the loss of defensive stats from traits.

However, if Anet intends to continue down that route, then there will be too many amulet choices and will result in many unused amulets as players opt to choose optimal amulets.

Now that I think about it, another option that Anet could do is to remove the current triple stat combo amulets and instead change them to how Crusader and Marauder amulets are: two major and two minors. The quadruple stat combo would include both offensive and defensive stats. With the major stats being spread out to form lesser offensive/defensive stats, it would resultantly lower the damage output of players. This would also solve the problem with too many amulets being introduced.

The amulet system either needs an overhaul or they need to introduce a lot more amulet types to make up the loss of stats from traitlines.

In this patch, Anet created 2 new amulets: Crusader and Marauder, which were previously known as Valkyrie and Berserker. Then they made Valkyrie actually have Valkyrie stats and now Berserker is pure DPS stats. Bar Celestial, every other amulet other than the aforementioned are all extreme variations of each stat type and is currently causing tons of imbalance issues in PvP, main culprit being Berserker/Marauder/Condi amulets. I have no idea why Anet just stopped at Crusader and Marauder.

Bug with Warrior Burst skill

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Harkan.9017

From testings, it seems like the Burst Mastery trait has some weird interactions with Air and Fire sigil combined with Longbow’s Combustive Shot. I’ve only seen this bug occur on Axe, Hammer, Greatsword, and Mace. The 4 weapons I mentioned must have Air or Fire.

An example to replicate this bug, as presented in the video, Axe/X will have Air and Intelligence coupled with Longbow as the other weapon set. Basically what happens is Combustive Shot(CS) is shot at full adrenaline then immediately swap weapon set to Axe and use Eviscerate. If the spacing is right, CS should land before Eviscerate and because of the swap CS will get 100% crit chance and 50% chance to proc Air. When the first pulse of CS procs air, Eviscerate should be in the beginning of its animation and immediately cancel and go on full cooldown.

I’ve completely stopped using Air/Fire in my weapon sets when I use Longbow in sPvP since it has costed me multiple potential kills/games.

I have tested landing Evis before CS. The testing is similar to what I mentioned about CS and ES Adrenaline interaction I had mentioned earlier.

The scenario is: CS is shot with full Adrenaline at a farther range, swap and Evis before CS lands. When Eviscerate lands, it deals its full damage. CS lands and the radius is equivalent to 1 bar of Adrenaline. I have had Air proc on Evis before CS lands and CS is unaffected.

I have also tried LB and Rifle burst. CS – > Kill Shot and KS deals damage equivalent to 1 bar of Adrenaline.

Harkan.9017

Nope, I was also presented the theory that 1 Adrenaline bar may be the problem. I understand what you mean though because Combustive Shot does the same thing to adjust its radius size according to Adrenaline. Even before the patch, you could CS + Earthshaker in one Adrenaline bar as long as you shot CS far enough for you to swap to Hammer for ES and still be able to blast the fire field for might, it will just have a bar or no stun duration depending on whether Burst Mastery is taken.

I continually tested it without Air/Fire in roughly the same distance/timing from the dummy to make it so I Eviscerate before CS lands for over 10 minutes. Both burst skills will go through with no problems until I slap on Air/Fire which I have consistently reproduced the bug as long as CS procced Air/Fire during the burst.

Feel free to prove me wrong but I can only think that Air/Fire is causing this bug. I will go test Sword 2 leap and CS to verify it affects all leaps.

EDIT: Can’t seem to replicate it on Sword 2.
EDIT 2: To my surprise with intensive testing with other burst skills, I have found that it not only affects Hammer and Axe but also GS and Mace. Can’t seem to replicate with Sword cuz it’s instant and seems unlikely to be affected nor can I with Rifle, likely cuz it’s a channeled skill. Otherwise, It seems Air/Fire possibly has some weird interaction with Burst skills …

Yeah, sorry, I didn’t clarify what I did to produce this bug. Think I posted this late at night when this bug occurred and got sick of it happening. Note, this bug has happened to me over 20 times prior to that night.

So I’m using Axe/X or Hammer with Air and Intelligence + Longbow with Battle and Energy. I’ve only encountered this bug when I lay down Combustive Shot -> Eviscerate/Earthshaker(usually immediately) during the fire field’s duration. Basically what happens is when I switch to Axe or Hammer, Combustive Shot’s pulses have 100% crit chance and 50% chance to activate Air. My character does the twirl/leap animation for .1 seconds and then completely stops in place, putting the skill on full 7 second cooldown. No, it was not interrupted by CC cuz if it was, it would be 3 seconds.

I’ve reproduced this bug on test dummies but it very rarely happens. I think certain frames of the leap with Air proc needs to align. I also tested in random games using Force doing the CS -> Evis/ES combo and have seen yet to reproduce this bug. The bug might not even be related to Air but its the best guess I can make at why this is happening. I wouldn’t even limit the bug to just Evis/ES either. I’m sure it affects all Warrior leaps. When I have time, I will test again and post a video.

From my observation, it seems like Air and/or Fire proc is causing it to bug out and put the skill on full cooldown but I can’t seem to replicate it. What the kitten is causing this kitten?

Condition Warriors

Posted by: Harkan.9017

Harkan.9017

Honestly, a condition based warrior can’t really kill you if you have decent condition cleanse and you know how to dodge Pindown and the Sword #4, especially if they are a healing shout condition build. If you keep your distance you will never get overwhelmed by conditions.

However since most of the condition warrior builds I see run healing shouts. They aren’t indestructible as many people think, especially if you use a warrior against a condition warrior. Maybe against certain other classes they may seem indestructible. Using Mace/Greatsword with reflect missiles completely counter them. Using Hammer/Greatsword can kill them as well. In a melee fight a power warrior would win simply because they will do more damage and they can cleanse the condis. I use sigil of fire and air so if condi warriors want to get into a melee war with me they will never win.

While I mostly agree against most S/S + LB Condi Warriors, Condi Mace/S + LB with Perplexity Runes is just devastating for at least GS/Hammer builds. Dodge, Blocks, interrupts just royally screws GS/Ham over if Cleansing Ire isn’t activated. Even Signet of Stamina only does so much. 10+ stacks of unclearable confusion ftw … Good thing they aren’t mobile so I’ll just run from the extreme cheesiness of that build. GS/LB may do better just cuz of the reliable cleanse but I honestly doubt it.

Again, you’re still basing this on WvW where mobility and zerging is king. Do I even need to mention it’s an imbalanced game mode and not designed around 1v1? WvW has access to food and higher stat caps which further pushes build optimization of not just Warriors, but any class that wants to roam in general. You won’t ever see a Warrior in sPvP with -60% Condi reduction, 3k+ armor, 2.5k+ power, 60% Crit Chance, and 200% Crit Damage. Guardian, Warriors, Ele, and Necros overshadow many professions in a WvW zerg. Just cuz Warriors have the kit to function inside and outside of a zerg doesn’t mean they’re OP. It just means other classes don’t have the same functionality and need viable builds outside of roaming.

A Warrior with GS + Sword/X is not just not viable in a tPvP scenario. Thieves do what that particular Warrior build does, but 10x better.

Hey fellow WvW roaming Warriors, this is my first video compilation after the April 15th patch using Hammer/GS weapon sets. During the video, you’ll probably notice variations of Sigils and traits from the clips. Previously, I was using Hydro+Energy on GS and Para+Intel on Hammer but have switched to Air+Fire on GS and Para+Energy on Hammer to set up Hundred Blade/Whirlwind bursts. Air+Fire also makes up for the Crit Damage nerfs.

As for traits, the difference was between 4/0/4/2/4 and 4/0/6/0/4 choosing either Merciless Hammer vs Leg Specialist. Both are powerful traits and it’s merely a matter of taste/comboes you want to do with them.

I apologize if the fights may seem stale since the video consists mostly of Thieves/Warriors. They are one of the most popular roaming classes after all. From what I recorded, those were the best I found. Most other classes/players I fought had underwhelming skill levels. Questions are welcomed and feedback is appreciated. Hope you guys enjoy the video!

Constantly people keep saying its a 7-10% DPS increase but its not. Its only a DPS increase. If at no point do you stop attacking a boss in a long fight. In order to get an extra hit. You have to attack a target for a long time before that attack speed bonus grants and extra hit.

That means the traits gives you no real world bonuses and having more crit damage and beable to do hundred blades and AA with axe like the old meta build is still superior to the new trait 99% of the time.

If at anytime you have to stop attacking or the fight does not last long enough to get an extra hit the trait does absolutely nothing. This is why that trait is no good. And this is why people should not listen to NIKE lol.

You are completely ignoring the fact that DWA affects both the Warrior’s main-hand and off-hand which allows the Warrior to also utilize their other skills quicker. Especially in the case that, like you said, a Warrior is forced to cancel their Axe auto’s final hit to avoid a major attack. Obviously that’s a DPS loss. However, in some situations, DWA will land that final Axe hit AND you can dodge for a much higher DPS.

Regardless how you think it’s a “weak” trait, 10% IAS is still a DPS increase.

Lol I am not missing that point at all. BTW what off hand skills are high damage ones or are useful? IF you stop AA to do a off hand skill that does less damage than AA.

….. Are you serious? Axe 2, Mace 4 and 5, and Sword 4 all of which increases your party’s DPS and have high damage on its own. Are you those Warriors that use Signet of Might instead of Strength Banner in a dungeon cuz you want an extra 10 power? lol

Apparently this is one of those “bugs” that gave us an advantage because the tooltip says “Endurance Gained: 15”. I always thought this was a tooltip error, but I guess not …

[Roam. WvW Warrior] Asc. Gear + Build Choice

You do realize the stat difference between full exotic and full ascended is a mere +15 major and + 11 to minor stats right?

Ascended is better(duh), but you’re spending 50x the gold to get an extremely small boost, not factoring in the defensive infusion slots. If you’re filthy rich and can make full ascended armor then by all means craft it. Just know that exotics are just as good and far more flexible in terms of obtaining them.

You missed one day of crafting, big deal. Tomorrow’s not the end of the world and even if it was, crafting would be the least of your concerns.

Sword/Axe + Hammer or Axe/Shield + Longbow?

in Warrior

sword is mainly a condition weapon.

hammer I feel is very good for zerg vs zerg but not roaming I’ve never tried it so I could be wrong.

Sword is not mainly a condition weapon. It’s a hybrid weapon that can be used either way. It has mobility, fast decent auto damage that’s supplemented by bleeds, and Eviscerate-like damage with Final Thrust.

Hammer is a strong roaming weapon. Couple it with Sword/X or Longbow F1 for high AoE damage and might stacking.

Mobile strike work perfectly fine for me when I get immobalize. o_o

Yes it works fine when you’re immobilized before using a movement skill. However, the problem he’s referring to is when the Warrior gets immobilized DURING a movement skill. It will not break immobilize.

3% Burst should be Boon Hate.

in Warrior

Harkan.9017

The 0.1% Burst you get per trait point should instead be boon hate.

It should also be buffed to 0.2% per trait point

You want a passive 6% damage boost per boon?

Great, that’ll make all Guardians popping Save Yourselves take 111% extra damage!

and the new mechanic should be something else, like… Heal for 3% per boon, per critical hit.

That would be rather broken.

Hit a Guardian who just popped Save Yourselves and you get an instant 42% heal, all while probably killing him in a matter of seconds.

Except he has aegis, so the first hit will be blocked. Then you can use your invulnerabilities.

You were better off making suggestions for the Defense line. You’re asking to have cake and to eat it too.

Uhh, so your angry the tree will actually /do something?/

Oh come on, the Discipline line has plenty of good traits.

Discipline tree does have good traits, however the bonus .1% Burst damage per point it provides is extremely underwhelming …

Was GW2 designed to be played less?

Hahahahahahah. I would have loved to watch you play ONLY Vanilla-WoW for 5 years straight.

That’s a slightly creepy comment, but yeah I played WoW for 5 years straight because the content and end-game progression they had in place was enough to keep me interested until they released new major content.

GW2 dropped off for me pretty quickly after hitting max level.

You mean you enjoyed WoW’s so-called “end-game content/progression” carrot on a stick design. GW2 doesn’t have “OMG I MUST GET THIS GEAR CUZ ITS NECESSARY FOR ME TO DO SO AND SO CONTENT.” GW2 have cosmetics in place of people who want a gear grind, which are optional to achieve. The only reason it feels like GW2 has “run out of things to do” is because there is no carrot on a stick that makes players log-in constantly in order to stay up to date with gear.

As I’m sure you know, in WoW, you do dungeons to amass tokens which were necessary to do raids(unless you get carried). Then when you finally get into raids, you repeat the same raid until you get your desired gear. Once you obtain your “end-game gear” it’ll be obsolete in the next raid that’s released every couple months. After that, you repeat the same cycle of dungeon→raids. What a amazing concept of “progression”! sarcasm

I just finished my Personal Story. Here are my thoughts. (Spoilers Within)

I pretty much agree with everything you said. I really enjoyed the story in the beginning, but soon realized the choices I made weren’t exactly “personal” as it would ultimately lead up to the same events.

I’m a Human and had picked “finding my lost sister.” When I finally found her, I thought she would play a larger part of my story but she had only one scene in the whole story when you rescued her… It was rather disappointing. I don’t think you can even meet your sister again outside of that one scene.

The fight against Zhaitan was also disappointing, however I did like the lesser dragon fight on the ship. But again, the airship is practically a fly to the dragons yet they just float there stationary taking cannon shots in the face. When Zhaitan got shot in half, instead of destroying the airship as a whole, he just destroyed the cannon that shot him. Then afterwards pressing #2 to beat the story.

I would like to believe there will be revamps to the story quests or at make at least future quests more believable. Here’s to hoping.

Recipe for Crystalline Dust?

Does anyone know what the recipe is for mystic forging Crystalline Dust? I think it’s Incandescent Dust + 1 Crystalline Dust + Philo Stones, but I can’t figure out the last ingredient. Unless that creates something else, lol.
