Lol for real? In SWTOR you have one Stun break with zero immunity after. Getting stun locked to death is super common and one of the most complained about things. SWTOR PvP is truly bad. However the variety of map types is nice, although you would think a Huttball League and more Huttball maps would be logical since it is the most fun thing to pvp.

Also, SWTOR’s version of Capture Points is far superior, I totally agree. Having to channel a capture and then smartly defend/attack that node is way better than forcing people to stand in one tiny area or lose the point. A style of play that obviously lends itself to certain builds much better than other builds and promotes very stupid PvP-styles that don’t incorporate LoS or movement.

Scrapper is the battered wife of Elite Specs. People keep saying there’s good in it, it can change for the better with a few tweaks. But at the end of the day it’s really just a scumbag. Rifle Scrapper is far superior to Hammer Scrapper, plain and simple. Even that though you are no MORE effective than if you were HGH-Soldier.

I wouldn’t claim to be Five Gauge-league of play, but I switched back to pre-patch spec and while during my playtime I see very few other Engie’s in queue, I can definitively say that the ones I do come across I can take 1v1, or at the very least stalemate if they are Nike pros. And I don’t see any difference in their point pressure/presence — I could argue I’m actually more capable of maintaining node contestation.

So I’m with you, I’m not entirely sure where the high praise is coming from lol.

Have a few ideas for fun, troll-ish builds, but hugely skeptical this will EVER replace the current pvp meta. Being locked to a melee role doesn’t seem viable, even with all the regen potential. Pug vs Pug sure, it may shine. But I’m not convinced it will hold under coordinated/constant pressure, and a disadvantage of being locked melee is that while you are pressured you are essentially offering little to no counter damage to appropriate and vulnerable targets while you kite. WvW and PvE? I don’t think this specialization was created with those in mind. Unless they have done some stupid cheese mechanics in the “raids” that force you to spec a certain way for a certain encounter.

I LOVE THE NAME! Can’t wait for the POI this week. I bet it’ll be fantastic!

As a charr i detest it. Beeing a scrapper (and its indeed originating from the charr scrappers) is a punishment for beeing consistently insubordinate, unreliable, or troublesome and there is zero respect for a scrapper in the legions. A scrapper is seen as an untrustworthy troublemaker…and last time i checked i was an iron legion centurio and commander of the pact aswell high ranked member of an order and sort of a big deal all arround. Beeing a scrapper is basically the opposide of that and its quite a big punch under the belt line to be fully honest.

Player charr quote from personal story: “Scrappers? Lowlife scavengers.”

Someone on Reddit has something real interesting to say about it from a lore perspective. I’m not into RP, but I found this to be a good point of view and if this came from Anet and not just the author’s own ideas that’s a pretty dynamic way to evolve the lore in game.

Basically words change meaning over time and Scrapper could be evolving from a negative term to a more positive one. This happens in real life all the time. Read here (if you can read French you may be able to get more context from the article itself):

At this point I’m convinced you’re just trolling lol. There’s no way people take the name of a skill tree this seriously, even if you are a role player. Them naming the Specialization line -Scrapper- means what to your character? Nothing. You taking that line has no significant meaning on your role played character. You can still be a “Centurion-Mega-Avatar of Knightly Magnificence-Brightest Jewel of Tyria” from the Iron Legion.

I’m seriously at a loss over people complaining about the name. . . it’s kittening bizarre that someone would sit here and write like 15 paragraphs over the NAME. Functionality is, and will always be the only issue. YOU can call yourself, and your character anything you want. But if the actual functionality of the new mechanics is garbage that needs to be addressed.

I am not sure what game your playing, but when turrets were stronger, everyone and there mother was playing them in PvP. So your historically wrong to claim AI utilities are avoided so deliberately.

Actually I think it’s safer to ask what game -you’re- playing lol. Turret Engi was weak, and the only people that were getting wiped by them were hotjoin facetanking Rambo’s. No offense.

Are you suggesting that they were not flocked to at one point, by many? Historically, that fact counters the idea that players avoid AI utility skills.

Perhaps you missed the point of why it was mentioned. No one cares who was or was not getting whipped by them, the fact remains they were used, and extremely regularly.

You asked what game he was playing, I asked which you were. It was a very seldom occurrence that I ran in to turret engineers outside of hotjoin. Because the AI is/was weak, easily countered, and ultimately useless against anyone that has played more than 20 games.

Of course Gyro’s aren’t going to be stationary, so you can’t just barrage them down or +1 the OpFor on the other two points. But AI is still a system that is weak. It’s hard to say exactly if Gyro’s will be useless until we see some skill facts, but if they are the Engineer equivalent of Guardian Spirit weapons are you going to honestly say this is a strong addition to the class? For sPvp.

I will reserve judgement until they show the class off on friday. However, at first glance. Hammer seems cool—I spend 97% of my time in melee range—Gyro’s. . . eh, as an spvp’er I’m not sold on AI being very useful. But who knows.

Appreciate the effort of the devs trying to make something new—conquest has been getting boring—but Stronghold is just really bad. 9/10 games end to time, rather than Lord kill. The door breakers just melt and fall over (In fact leaving just one guy to defend can essentially make the door breaking process non-achievable), if you do manage to get to the Lord, the OpFor can literally just turtle up and win the match farming the attackers, other than that, there is no on-map comeback potential.

The entire map needs a lot of tlc to make it a viable alternative, as of right now I would have rather seen some deeper deathmatch/arena focus, since that’s basically all that Stronghold is. Just with some npcs and channeling objectives.

After a few games, yeah, I just can’t find a reason to take Mortar. You can argue for the combo fields being nice, but it doesn’t feel like a necessary addition. In fact it can be a hindrance if you need a certain clutch field and have one of these Mortar ones down providing the wrong combos for your team. The damage, even in a high might stacking build like HGH just feels unimpressive. I feel almost pigeon-holed in to just running what I’ve always ran. Even the new Moa from Elite Elixir is meh. You can stop a stomp, maybe burn out a Lich (Even though now with the Condi-Spike I almost feel like I’d rather have a Necro in Lich than running around.) But is it better than Supply Crate?

Fun while it lasted it was a little too good to be true, with the amount of node pressure it offered in spvp. I don’t personally agree with the nerf, granted I haven’t logged in to check just how bad it is. That said, if it’s warranted this much anger, I suppose it’s back to Burn Spam before that gets axed too lmao. Btw, I find the Burning thing a far more egregious mode of play than someone spamming Mortar 1 on the node. I can kitten near insta-gib people once I know they have no Condi-Removal.

It’s not just the communication that helps pre-mades. You need to also realize that it is a group of players selected because they are at least somewhat skills versus a pub of players at variable skill levels. Pre-mades are also more willing to cooperate whereas pub groups tend to resort to complaining and insisting that each individual player is in fact the most skilled and has the best plan.

I agree, I’d like to see what more we can do to encourage pubs to cooperate more. On my wish list is a team finder that analyzes all your games and suggests other pub players to potentially team with based on your past history with them.

Another idea is letting you keep your pub team through the next queue if you won.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Lol just had a great 500 – 90 game, it was so much fun. You’re absolutely right about premades being able to coexist alongside pug groups. Its not imbalanced at all. Disregard any criticism about this shared queue, working entirely as intended.

Anet have always referred to WvW as PvE. The additions that have been made to WvW have generally been PvE in nature.

WvW is heading more towards PvE than RvR mechanics because Anet are trying to encourage the PvE population to participate in WvW more actively.

I think as far as Anet are concerned EotM is a WvW success story as there are always many players there so it’s likely that is the direction that WvW will continue to go in.

I don’t WvW very often, pretty much never actually (Zerg vs Zerg, bleh). But I wish the other WvW maps were similar to EotM, not karma train-wise, but the layout would offer some truly impressive choices tactically.

Just had a match of all solos vs. all solos (as far as I could tell anyway) in ranked.

Final score: 500-499.

A really fun match. Reminded me of my Solo Arena days. Such a good thing we got rid of Solo Arena, right? eyeroll

Wait, where was the player demand to remove solo queue? When people were asking for solo queue, almost half the threads touched on the subject. As far as I saw, the only major complaints about solo queue were about Skyhammer and Spirit Watch.

I think this new system can work, but I don’t buy that people were clamoring for the removal of solo queue.

Anyway, the rest of your post matches my experience. Most of my matches are reasonably close. But every few games, I get a total disaster.

To clarify, the player demand was more for an unranked arena where they could play with friends and other people casually in a way more structured way than hot-join. There was also valid criticism about the validity of the solo ladder. So we felt unranked and ranked was a better split than solo and team.

I think this was a good move, especially because I believe we can have solos and pre-mades in the same queue with out compromising. I wasn’t expecting to deliver perfection on day one, so will keep trying.

Solo’s and premades can NEVER coexist lol. Well, I take that back. Random pick-up group Premades that aren’t using voice comms, and are essentially just five solo players, that’s really about the only way it’s not a total smash fest. But honestly, you’ve undoubtedly played other MMO’s. You have to be aware that in no game has Premades-vs-PuGs ever, ever worked. Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Age of Conan (It actually took the entire PvP Mini-Game Community dying off before they fixed it in this game), Warhammer Online, RIFT. . . all of them suffer(ed) from the same issue, and these are just the ones from my experience, I’m sure there are countless others. No matter how much any Dev Team may want to not force ridiculous wait times on people looking to play with friends, it’s really the only way to create some form of balance in structured pvp environments.

Simply put PuGs-vs-PuGs and Premades-vs-Premades is the only way to fix the issue.

I’m Over Powered Necro and play for Team Radioactive. Today, as well as the previous days, we not only won every single game, but 500-0’d 90% of the games we play, even 0 pointing all of the players themselves.

You may be thinking, “OMG, I Wish I could do that” but it is incredibly boring, it may sound weird but winning uncontestly is not actually fun at all. What makes this game fun is a good fight, which with this new matchmaking system seems to be impossible, I haven’t fought a single team yet with someone we recognize and it is making me start to consider other games as viable options to play.

Not terribly surprising if you’re getting thrown in against PUGs, and entry level/uncoordinated premades. That’s been one of my biggest issues with the new system. I don’t get to play a lot during NA prime time, so I generally Solo Queue and I am either incredibly unlucky or I don’t know what, but I’ve been in so many matches that are five solo’s versus full coordinated premades or 3/2 double premades lol. Aside from that though the matchmaking seems so bizarre now. It really is one of two extremes. You either get absolutely dominated, or you entirely crush the OpFor. Neither of which are incredibly engaging.

The best games are always those nail biters that can go either way, win or lose. They’re exciting. It was the impression I got this new system was supposed to accomplish, I’ve started debating going back to SWTOR or Age of Conan pvp, which sucks because they’re very Gear > Skill, which is a weak system for pvp itself.

Well the queue is working again, now the only glaring issue I seem to be running in to. Is Pugs vs Premades. . . on a map like Courtyard. x_x

-Take that back, the Pug v Premade and you can still be one a team of 5 squishies vs 5 heavies, and still have to play through a 4v5

That’s actually how it’s supposed to work now. No more 4×5s and the person who did not accept gets dishonor and a time-out that grows longers the more they do it.

The dishonor lockout doesnt seem to be that long, it’s popped up four times since I got back in, only to be reset every time.

I think it’s safe to say almost every class has a cheesy wtf-type build. As for ridiculous, and completely nonsensical, I still have to say Warrior is the most lulz. It violates almost every basic rule of competitive pvp. High armor, high health, great sustain, great burst, DoT resistance and immunity (DoT pressure in some cases), impressive defense and survivability, and team support. After this of course, like most people have said, D/D-Cele Elementalist, and AI Soldier Amulet builds (Turret) Just dont make a whole lot of sense, to me personally.

Losing twice? Lol. I’ve played about 20 matches today, I’ve won 2. The rest have been complete blowouts with people fighting off point, people melting in two seconds, no one seeming to give a kitten. Gotten to the point now Im looking elsewhere for competitive pvp.

I’ve seen several instances where fresh Commander’s have come to the map, admitted they were new to WvW but now that they have their tag they will be around a lot more. And have, as the only Commander on those maps, absolutely gotten us destroyed.

1000 Badges at least, and Realm Avenger (Ultimate Dominator) should be the prerequisite to being able to claim a WvW Commander Icon. Neither are incredibly difficult to obtain, you just have to show up and fight. But by the time you have them you’ve definitely put in enough hours to know what you are doing.

This was extremely fun, took me about two hours. And a whole instance of people sending me hate tells and /say abuse because I play a norn, but I got it done and it was maybe of the coolest puzzles I’ve come across in an MMO.
