I’m starting to think that Hero Points are not going to be the way to unlock the Elites then.
Exactly, since anet has not said I am not assuming it will be HPs and it will be 250 of them. For all we know we get some new currency and will use that.
Then why are there HP’s in the new maps? They would be useless.
Why do we have the challenges in the old maps when you get enough points just by leveling?
Because we used to need them when they were still skillpoints. An excuse POF does not have.
And why are there more mastery-points available than needed to max out all masteries?
If someone looks too “spacy” for you because of colourful auras etc., just imagine they came from the mists to help us fight the evil.
If Rytlock can wear a blindfold (how do you fight an enemy if you can’t even see it?) why can’t others wear shiny wings? You don’t know what happened to them in the mists, maybe that’s just what people wear there?
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
pretty sure it will be around 250, just like HoT.
The thing you need to remind is:
The hundreds of HP’s from HoT are not available for those who don’t own HoT. And they still need to be able to unlock all the PoF specs.
So increasing the amount of HP needed, because “people have so many HP left over from HoT” doesn’t make sense.
So if you have a lot of HoT HP left over: congrats, you will have your elite-spec maxed out earlier than those who don’t own HoT. Surprise! …

as i heard there are people not grinding 24/7, but also sometimes just chilling in the guildhall with their friends etc.
in those moments, you have plenty of time to
(…) step into their character shoes and (…) explore all these options (…)
:P
never seen those people before, what kind of sick human would play a game and just chill?
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
so people still think at Anet everybody can do everything?
people have their jobs with specific tasks, like in any other company, so taking the event team to do something else -> not gonna happen.
how do you even know they’re not working on something atm?
just because there are no current live events, doesn’t mean they’re just sitting back twiddling their fingers…
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
stating facts vs. relying on your biased opinion is not womansplaining…
maybe its just a trick so we’re even more surprised when there is more stuff than they said? jk
wait, so.. all we’re going to get are the mount masteries?
I didn’t inform myself alot (intentionally), but I always assumed ANet just didn’t show us everything yet, and we will get some other masteries, such as the nuhoch, itzel, etc. masteries from HoT…
I’m not going to read the entire abstract to confirm, but it appears that this does not factor in total number of male players vs total number of female players, which is the statistic that matters most in this context.
And that’s where you’re absolutely wrong…
The statistic that matters the most (in this context) is the share of gender swapping players, looking at men and women seperately, not the total number of them.
(…) girls playing guys is not nearly as much of a norm as guys playing girls.
obviously, as faaris correctly stated and undermined with a valid statistic, it’s much more of a norm around girls to gender swap, as it is around guys.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
Literally the only reason you haven’t seen threads from girls on the topic is because girls playing guys is not nearly as much of a norm as guys playing girls.
tbh i know a lot more women playing male chars than men playing female chars.
also, most of the time those guys give their female chars more or less neutral, or at least more “fantasy-like”, names, while the girls give their male chars obviously male names, often even name+surname.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
so if I’m a gay dude and play a male character…
am I “weird” because I play the same gender I’m sexualy oriented in? ^^
srsly now, I don’t paly female chars myself, because I’m a dude and like to identify with the character I play… (…to some extend. I don’t pretend to be a sword weilding guardian in rl of course)
But I don’t expect anyone to have the same idea about playing (MMO)RPGs as me. So I’m fine with other guys playing female characters.
As a sidenote:
I do treat players with female characters like they’re female irl, at least until I know they’re not female. (Not that I’m flirting with them. Just in a way that… you know… men treat women different over all) If I say something unpleasant in the meantime, I can still apologize for it and tell them I thought they were female because of their female character.

I actually had a situation a few days ago, where I got on a map with my charr and immediately jumped off a cliff to glide (charrs stretch their arms forward while gliding, for those who don’t know), while not all models were loaded yet.
So the glider was invisible and my charr was gliding around like superman.
I lol’ed
Yea he could’ve left out the “hahaha”, but tbh I’m with him in terms of “don’t mistake something that bothers you with something that puts your health in danger”
I feel like since the mounts are reworked because of people getting motion sick, everyone is now trying to abuse this argument to shut down any aspect of the game that bothers them…
Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally on one page with ANet reworking the weird controls of mounts. They have a completely new mechanic/gameplay that people should be able to use without getting sick.
But if you guys get “motion sick” by something flashy in a video game, i really doubt gw2 is the right hobby for you…

as a german i want a haxen-gleiter with flying sauerkraut in his trail
what about a weißwurst-gleiter with a mustard trail?
tbh,
i think sunrise would make a nice glider!

I think OP is referring to the part of Black Lion Trading Company HQ in Lion’s Arch that shows vendors behind locked gates. Those haven’t been open for a long time. I think it begs the question as to why they still have them there if they never unlock those gates. Long time ago, you could still buy the old, expensive skins (fused, jade dragon, etc.) from those vendors for like 10 tickets. Now the gates are permanently locked. What’s the point, Anet?
i know what the OP is referring to, and again:
the doors are locked for the same reason, those skins are locked if you want to buy them directly through double-clicking the BL tickets. They are literally LOCKED
of course its sad for you, OP, that you spend so much money on BL keys, just to find out you can’t buy those skins. But tbh that wouldn’t have happened if you had informed yourself before spending all that cash.
As Aurelian Omenkind mentioned, those doors have been locked for a long time, so that’s a long time for you to get the chance of finding out those skins aren’t available atm.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
Wat?
Double click on tokens will open you the skins menùOnly the skins that are not locked up
I think you answered your own question here.
The skins are locked, meaning they aren’t available right now, which is why they’re so expensive in the TP.
Of course you can transmute legendary PvP/WvW armors, but that’s not the point of the thread…
I think what a lot of people wish for is a legendary PvP/WvW armor that looks like one, instead of just getting the possibility of stat-swapping on some “transmuted trash”.
Guess “elitists” want to know as many details as possible in order to prepare for the expansion
The story and plot pretty much collapsed in the 5th and final chapter.
That’s pretty much my summary for any living world content ANet released so far.. (just replayed LW2, HoT and LW3 to prepare for PoF :P)
I mean, the episodes for themselves are conclusive, but they always feel like ANet tried to stretch out the story by some meaningless collecting stuff for character X to get some information blah blah, but I always felt the time→progress ratio is reaaally unbalanced. Until “we” finally make some decisions in the last episode and everything collapses (so the time→progress ratio is unbalanced in the other direction)

Personally I’d vote for at least a single tab expansion simply because I have a tab unlock item that I purchased from the gem store only to find out it was unusable because there was no “you’ve reached the max for this item” type warning limit on it and they hadn’t yet officially announced the tab limitations. So it sits in my bank taking up a space in hopes that eventually it will be usable.
funny irony
a bank expansion item blocking space in your bank…
tbh, the main problem is not people hoarding, but ANet/GW2 throwing tons of stuff at the player that definitely has a value, but no specific use (yet).
Masses of skins, mats, collection items…
I mean… I have 2 or 3 bank slots filled up with items i will need for some collections.. just not for now, because I’m busy with other stuff. But just deleting those items means I would have to obtain them again once I want to finish the collection.
Another 2-3 slots are filled up with ascended mats, because I don’t have one of those mat-eaters yet. Also using them to craft some stuff I won’t even use, plus effectively wasting gold on other mats I would need for crafting said stuff, is not an option.
So those mats are just blocking space, waiting to be eaten or crafted into something useful…

In MMO boards traditionally the motto “Learn to complain without suffering” rules. I can name two effects who substantially contribute to this.
Confirmation bias about one’s self-value dictates that if you win, it was due to your superior skill. However, if the other guy wins, it was caused by your underpowered class.
Self-censorship prevents players to post anything positive about their class, fearing that could motivate a nerf. In an ongoing crying contest about your favorite class praise means scoring negative points.
That actually makes a lot of sense.
But it seems like you’re only talking about PvP here.
Meanwhile in PvE, min-maxing-Vets with their DPS-meters etc. are basically creating a Meta like “play this or gtfo”
Of course, when doing Raids etc. with your guild or friends, you will most likely be able to play whatever you want.
But the fear of getting kicked out of pug-groups for playing non-meta builds leads a lot of players to follow said Meta/ consider non-Meta-builds as “bad”.
Then again, they would prefer to play the way they want, so they come to the Forum and complain about how “bad” their class/build is, in hope it gets a buff and makes it into the Meta.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
I think ANet is trying to avoid a ****storm about changes they made but the players weren’t able to try yet…
In other words:
ANet wants players to experience the changes before crying about them.
Colin’s post is definitely phrased in a way that suggests the item not coming back, but – as I said – stating that anyone promised, or “explicitly told”, the players the Jetpack won’t come back is a false statement.
And since we are not at court here and players’ feelings have an impact on the game (some vote with their feet), what the former Game Director suggested matters more than how a lawyer would interprete it. Nobody is going to sue Anet about this statement, but people might decide to keep their pocket money in their pockets more than before, or maybe it was the last drop for some players. Constant dropping wears away a stone.
That’s absolutely true.
And it’s the reason why I would never pay an absurdly high price for an item just because it was available for 1 week and the devs said it won’t come back, nor hoard it just because its value might increase.
I’ve seen such items come back several times in several games.
So I rather bet on those items coming back than betting the other way round. Saved a lot of money and nerves this way.
I think that’s a bit of a semantic stretch, Hyrai.
If you take those two statements at face value then it’s quite clear that Colin was saying these items wouldn’t and shouldn’t come back. That’s particularly important because, well, they came back and they’re now no longer a “limited reward” and when they brought them back that "suddenly undercut their value entirely.”
I just want to state that I have no jetpack and no interest (financially or otherwise) in getting a jetpack at all (I think they look horrible). You can argue that that is or isn’t relevant in this post-Colin world and I personally don’t care if they did or didn’t “pinky swear” about this but they have gone back on this statement.
Edit: both my English and typing ability are getting worse and worse.
I don’t see where I’m stretching Colin’s post in any way. I’m just stating what it literally says.
You’re right that he wrote this particular item shouldn’t come back. But he never said it wouldn’t.
Huge difference there.
All he said was, it’s not intended to come back. Which is by nature a very stretchable phrase, and probably intentionally used in this case.
I also don’t own a jetpack, nor do I have any desire for it, I’m just looking at this case from a 100% neutral point of view. which is: neither Colin, nor anyone else from ANet, promised anyone those items wouldn’t come back.
For those players who bet on the jetpack not coming back, it’s a stab in the back, no doubt.
Colin’s post is definitely phrased in a way that suggests the item not coming back, but – as I said – stating that anyone promised, or “explicitly told”, the players the Jetpack won’t come back is a false statement.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
If you read the Dev’s post again very carefully, you’ll see that the only thing he said was the jet pack is “intended as limited reward” and “It wouldn’t be fair to the people who did earn jet packs for us to bring them back, and suddenly undercut their value entirely.”
So technically, it’s indeed unfair to you (OP) or others who kept the jet pack hoping it would increase in its value, but even though it was “intended” to not come back, ANet never said its set in stone to not make it available ever again.
I do understand your frustration, but claiming you were explicitly told it wouldn’t come back is a false statement.
edit:
what I learned from past experiences in several games, not only MMORPGs, is to never trust the Dev’s on not making limited content available again in the future
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
imo female armors may be “over sexualized” but that’s still a huuuge difference to sexist/sexism in general
maybe swap those terms in this thread?
back to topic:
at least for aesthetics, if not for the sake of equalism, male characters should have the option to show off their packs. especially those in heavy armor. on the one side, as the description states, those armors should look heavy, but on the other side, so should the character wearing them! those who wear heavy armor are very muscular, and should be able to show off those muscles!
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
If you have more character to equip it’s only fair to allow this to be happening. If content needs to be capped (so why should it be?), cap it based upon the amount of slots a person has/ uses so he can maintain a comparable gain on more characters. I doubt ppl with 60 alts will run all 60 alts through bitterfrost in a row.
my opinion on this:
it’s only “fair” to not allow this.
How can it be considered fair that a player basically has the same progress on 60 chars at once that I have on a single char?
Or on the other hand, why is it “unfair” that you have to put more or less the same amount of effort into every individual character?
by your example, someone with 60 alts wouldn’t have a “comparable” gain, but a 60x higher gain than someone with only 1 char.
Alts, Twinks, or whatever you want to call them, already profit from the resources gathered on the first/main char.
Also, people would “abuse” it and create Alts just to craft stuff for their main char.
So in other words: they don’t use it to gear 60 characters as fast as I do with 1, but gear 1 character 60x faster than me.
I’m pretty sure the most important reason for ANet to implement this “timegating” was exactly that; creating a “wall of time” for players who would otherwise create tons of gear within a couple hours.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
What does “time gating” mean?
some items can only be crafted once a day. (per account)
whoops Pifil was faster ^^
The “worlds” as you probably know them only matter for WvW nowadays.
Only in WvW the players are devided by the worlds they play on. But even if you play on another world as your friends, you can join them on their world as guest. (you’ll have some restrictions i think)
In PvE all players are mixed on one single Mega-Server. So you can play PvE with anyone from any world.
About “catching up”:
Even in “pre-expansion” tyria there will always be a few players who can (and mostly will) help you with anything if you ask for it in map-chat.
approach:
don’t buy the expansions right away.
play the core-game, so you get to know the most important aspects of the game. If you don’t understand something ask in-game or look in the wiki.
Don’t get frustrated by the “flood of information”, pick yourself some little goals to achieve one after another.
look for a guild
there are plenty guilds who are willing to help new players find into the game
forget about trashmobs being killed.
think about the mission which requires you to kick chickens! that’s animal abuse!
considering his statement about “not having money to splurge around”, why would he buy the standard edition + 4000gems if he can getsome neat extras “for free” by buying the ultimate edition?
I returned to gw2 about two months ago, after a 2 year break.
I bought HoT, played the story, leveled the necessary masteries, and after a few days I tasted blood and really started to enjoy it.
Even almost 2 years after HoT’s release, I didn’t have any problems at catching up with everyone else, since there are still daily MP- and HP-trains, Meta-Maps, etc.
To answer OPs question:
If you already bought HoT: The least you should do is play the story of HoT + LS3.
Everything else you do in HoT doesn’t matter for PoF.
Overall, right now would be the best time to jump into the game again.
I’m sure it won’t be a problem to catch up even 1 year from now. But I think you’ll have the most fun exploring the new expansion with everyone else.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
and what about an option “salvage all x and higher”?
tbh I don’t know what I would need that for, but maybe someone else has an idea :P
as said before:
underwater exploration: like
underwater combat: ****
and my personal view on underwater combat isn’t even that the skills need to be reworked or something like that.
I just find it really hard to estimate the distance between me and the mob, in addition to the really weird vertical movement.
People act like low level players face a challenge in this game. When Revenant first came out, I was—for the first time, on a class that no player had any experience with, and yet I was still able to faceroll all Central Tyria content just by making sure that my gear was kept up-to-date instead of using random drops.
Did you consider that you, as a long-time player, have a lot more resources to collect the right gear for your new char, while new players do indeed have to play with basically “random” gear?
Also, it doesn’t matter if you play a new class for the first time, while having another character with maxed out masteries etc., because the core-mechanics stay the same.
A new player doesn’t even know those core-mechanics.
The only people who get hooked on Central Tyria gameplay (which has been heavily nerfed at least twice since release BTW), is super-casuals who log in an hour a day after getting home from work.
So… because I’m a “super-casual” I’m not allowed to enjoy the game anymore?
Do I hear a subtext that it’s a bad thing I got a job and not as much time to play as you?
You already got high-tier fractals, raids and – in terms of open-world-content – HoT, while I’ve got core-tyria and maybe low-tier-fractals.
And now you want to make core-tyria harder so you can enjoy it, while I don’t.
I hope you realize how selfish that is…
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
Just leave core-tyria as some kind of sandbox for new/unexperienced players.
Of course maybe they will develop some form of bad habits.
But they will learn to optimize their gear, build and strategy as soon as they want to play more challenging, instanced content. Or to finish the easy content faster. Just like we all did.
If you want to make vanilla tyria more challenging “to stop newbies from developing bad habits”, why not remove T1 and T2 fracs while you’re at it?
Alright, I was mistaken (unintentionally of course) and thought you were talking about finishing a whole legendary within 60 hrs.
And instead of clearly stating my mistake in the first place, you started talking about some random stuff how it is possible to finish a whole legendary in 60 hrs and how superior you are to us, which led to this scattered discussion.
The fact that you keep referring to basically every post doesn’t make it easier to follow your chain of thought or what post you’re actually referring to.
I don’t know about your first language, but maybe telling you that english is not mine will help you comprehent that.
but how about we just forget all this BS and get back to collection’s?:
I’m 100% sure nice friends and a good guild can accelerate the progress with collections significantly.
However, an average player who doesn’t have any experience in legendary journeys still won’t be able to finish said collections within a month. Even two months I highly doubt.
Also you have to remember:
Playing 10 hours straight will always be a lot more efficient than playing 5×2h.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
I think you got something wrong over the course of our discussion.
I didn’t say mounts are as good as waypoints, or even better (I do think they are, but I didn’t say it).
I said waypoints are not always faster than mounts.
4×365+366=1826
so the 5th birthday of your character will be, when /age tells you its 1826 days old.
:P
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
So a 95% chance to reach something is as good as a 100% chance?
A mount would not have saved you in tangeld depths neither. Navigation wise, this map is a fill for bancruptcy on many levels.
A contested WP is a design desicion that is left from Anets failed attempt to create a really living world. I doubt that we will see lots of them in the future, at least I hope so.
Arguing with you really gives me a headache, so I’ll try one last time and then give up.
Once you figured out how to use mounts, the chances of reaching your destination in PoF are just as high as they are in HoT.
It’s just that Anet went from obstacles like some kind of labyrinth and tricky updrafts etc. to less waypoints, thus longer (but easier) routes.
in HoT it takes you 10min to figure out a way from the ground to a location 50m higher, in PoF it takes tyou 10min to run a (mostly) linear but longer way with just a few mount-jumps. I really don’t see the problem of less waypoints.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
Gliding trivializes a lot of core-tyria content, especially JPs, too.
Are players who don’t own HoT mad about that?
I’m pretty sure they’re not.
You wanna know what the difference is?
New content trivializing old content is not the same as old content trivializing new content.
You are saying something different. Even though I’m sure you do unintentionally.
An entire legendary can be completed within 60 hours if you have the gold for everything and/or completed the time-gated crafting. However, the OP is complaining about the collection aspect. I suggest crafting them first before making judgements on how long it’ll take. Soon I’ll be crafting everything for the 10th HoT legendary so I believe I know what it takes to make them as I have personally done it.
In this post, you’re talking about “completing an entire legendary within 60hrs”. Everything after that either doesn’t make sense or has nothing to do with the topic.
If I have to hoard tons of gold and mats, and then need 60hrs in addition to complete the rest, I did not finish the entire legendary within 60hrs.
I hope you understand that. If not, arguing with you won’t bring us any further.
Also, you’re talking about completing an entire legendary, while demanding everyone else to stay with just the collections. See the problem?
I hope we can really get back to just the collections now.
As I said before:
A casual gamer that plays <8h a week will definitely need several weeks, if not months, to finish the T3 collection. Especially if he doesn’t want to dedicate all of his time to just the collection, but also do some other stuff.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
Find the WP once = your suffering ends.
Ride your mount through miles of desert, die by hoping too far with your target already in sight = Your suffering begins again.
Get used to mounts and their skills = your suffering ends again.
PS: I’m not talking about finding a WP in HoT, but finding your way to a specific location, starting at a waypoint that seems nearer than the few in PoF.
PPS: non existing waypoints can’t be contested :P
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
The “problem” is, that ANet already advertsied PoF as standalone.
So there’s basically no way back.
I’m pretty sure they thought about connecting PoF to HoT in some way. But then decided not to do so – for whatever reason they might have.
What I’m saying is that I would be kittened if I purchased a standalone expansion and couldn’t play all of it.
And I would have every right to be, whether gw2 is a MMO,FPS or whatever other genre you can imagine.
Also, how do you know that this strategy does damage to the game?
Maybe it attracts more new players, doing exactly the opposite in the long term.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
actually I do doubt that waypoints are always faster.
I’m pretty sure running anywhere in Elona, starting from the nearest WP, will often be faster than finding a way to a specific location in tangled depths starting from the (seemingly) nearest WP.
I mean, Just because it’s stand-alone doesn’t mean that everyone needs to get everything.
So let’s say you don’t own HoT, but PoF.
You paid for that expansion.
Wouldn’t it be a shame to not have access to 100% of it, despite having paid the full price?
I mean I do understand that some – or most – players would like to make use of their HoT masteries in PoF.
But a standalone expansion should stay a standalone expansion. Everything else wouldn’t be fair to those who don’t own HoT.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
having to face away from the mob towards your allies is a huge harm in terms of gameplay/flow. just saying.
imagine playing shattered observatory, where you already have to face away from the boss every now and then. and additionally face away from the boss everytime you use a mantra. when are you actually gonna fight it, if you’re busy spinning around like a beyblade?
also, what you seem to forget is that currently the firebrand axe 1 range is shorter than most other melee 1s. So even if you’re not standing dead center on a mob, you will still most likely stand closer to it than the rest of your group.
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
It’s pretty clear you only read the main points and none of the explanations, as I mentioned to lack of WP’s in new areas being a forced necessity for the mounts.
So how about reading the whole thing before you reply next time? Are forced necessities for masteries through map design a new thing for you?
Did you play HoT?Forced necessities being not new doesn’t mean they are something good. There are reasons why HoT was generally disliked, you know. Too much verticality, not enough waypoints and too convoluted map design were mentioned mainly in negative context, not a positive one.
If mounts are partially responsible for the reduced number of waypoints in expac, that alone would be a good reason to scrap mounts completely.
1) too much verticality – solved in new maps (more horizontal progression)
2) not enough WP – solved in new maps (faster travel with mounts)
3) convoluted map design – see 1)
I get your point that something that has been there before isn’t necessarily a good thing. But for now it looks like ANet learned from the mistakes they made with the controversal HoT map design. (even though I – and a lot of people I talked to – liked the HoT maps in the end, you just have to get used to the new type of map progression)
(edited by Hyrai.8720)
I feel like people expect to get a new class with every expansion just because we got one with the first,
while I’m pretty sure the main purpose of the rev was to even out the three types of classes, as said before (three soldiers, three adventurers, three scholars)
If that wasn’t the purpose, ANet could’ve easily taken the core idea of the rev and fit it into a warrior/guardian profession.
