81 games of warrior, never got beyond 3 pips in emerald.
26 games of dh, sitting comfortably in sapphire.

Well… from my point of view “because it only matters in PvP anyway”
This is correct.
There is a small section of the player base that likes to speed run dungeons and fractals but that’s not how the game mode is meant to be played. You’re suppose to grab 4 friends and just do group PvE with the builds and gear you have on. The same is true for WvW.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
It’s amusing. The other month people were up in arms because Mike O’Brien insinuated that very few people played the WvW game mode exclusively. Now when you ask where all the WvW players are, you’ll be told “they’re in PvE.” Guess he was right afterall.
He’s absolutey right and always has been. It’s not that black and white though.
PvX players certainly make up the bulk of the game’s base and they make up the bulk of WvW. However, this particular set of players does NOT command or organize for WvW anyway. They pop into WvW to check to see if there are any active commanders or guilds that they like to follow, if there isn’t they leave. They are 100% dependent on the dedicated WvW community.
By building the mode for them and ignoring the feedback of active WvW guilds, you’ve essentially rendered the place commanderless. Without leaders, there will be no followers. That’s why WvW sits dead now and will sit dead until you address the issues of the active WvW guilds instead of the PvX masses.
If you want to restore WvW to it’s glory and get commander tags back up on every map there’s two things you absolutely have to do:
1) Revert stability
This is a no brainer. Commanders get pulled, pin sniped, and killed three seconds into every confrontation right now. It’s impossible to command when you’re dead.
2) Disable Rally mechanics
This is the main reason commanders run untagged. One death can rally the entire enemy force. Guildmates can be accounted for if they die but random militia can’t. You’d find a significantly higher amount of guilds would be willing to tag up if bringing random militia wasn’t a detriment to their play.
Also, disabling rally would give smaller groups more incentive to fight larger ones. Sure they may not be able to wipe the entire force but they can pick off a few players here and there giving them some reward for their effort. It’s also possible that in highly contested fights closer to smaller force’s waypoints, they could win a war of attrition by killing off a few enemies here and there forcing them to run back across the map. Similar in effect to how waypoints in the garrison work now without the cheesy aspect behind it.
There are other things that could be done to get the active WvW guilds back into the zone but those two are the most important, until they are address, your zone will continue to sit there dead.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Contrary to public opinion, I don’t think you’re going to see a WvW resurgence.
What I believe you’ll see is players start to cycle back into WvW only to find no enemies to fight. Between the 4 maps, there’s just not enough players to defend and attack even with a peak population. Players will attack undefended structures and avoid defended ones.
This was an issue prior to the expansion that, unfortunately, becomes an even bigger issue with a larger map, auto upgrades, and more objectives. People will quit out of boredom.
If they want to make WvW active again, they need to take EotM technology and apply it to the new map. Make one central map with overflows and combine all the servers into megaservers. Server loyalty is kind of a dead thing anyway.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Sich makes some good points in reference to the meta-game.
As for fighting, commanding has become impossible. The recent stability ‘fix’ has led to commanders just getting pulled and killed three seconds into every fight. It’s not very enjoyable to command when you’re dead.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Jarrix, but you were able to “claim” the camps without running the mission? And without a Guild Hall?
You don’t need to claim the camp for the guild mission. Just launch it under the missions tab then have 3 people in the circle when it’s captured.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
No.
To be frank, I haven’t liked anything they’ve done to WvW since they fixed culling and added ranks 2.5 years ago. Every WvW patch, outside of a few cosmetic ones, seems like a step backwards. Less siege, more fights pls.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
You can complete the guild mission for this without a hall.
You have to activate the mission under the guild missions tab. This will start the mission at which point you have 30 minutes to take a camp and hold it for at least 10 minutes.
If you do not launch the mission, you will not get credit. Don’t feel bad, we did camps for about 3 hours before someone realized you needed to launch it first.
Also the SPvP missions are even more complicated. You have to form teams before launching the missions before queueing into a match. That one took us almost 8 hours to figure out.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
It’s a combination of the 2nd and 3rd posts here.
The Wyvern is a simple DPS fight, the two frogs requires coordination of CCs for when they heal. The three amigos requires group focus fire and placement awareness. Most players are always going to choose the simpler encounter when the rewards are the same.
Unfortunately, the few players that would attempt the more bizarre encounters are locked into the wyvern because it’s the only one with guaranteed success and everyone wants to play their specialization.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
I’m not sure the new maps or the labyrinth are on the megaserver technology. I play on Fort Aspenwood and am only seeing other FA guilds on the maps, no one from other servers.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
It’s obviously exploit. Whether they do anything about it is yet to seen.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
ANet being trolling.
Happy September fools days everyone!

People seem to have this notion that T1 still means long queues and giant super-blobs but that just isn’t the case anymore. T1 queues are small or non-existent. The blobs from each server just take turns karma training (I’ve never seen Garrisons flip so easily and often as they do now). There are times when a server has virtually nobody on on almost any map. I don’t think there would be any noticeable different for FA and SoS to face a current T1 server for a week.
This person knows.
TC and BG are small. They are significantly smaller than YB, we need to get past this notion that because they are in T1 they have lots of players. They are in T1 because glicko forces them to stay there, but both servers have shrunk to the point they no longer have queues.
JQ is really the only bloated server left and their excess is in off-hours period, they have virtually no one playing during NA. Honestly, every T1 server would be a better fit in T2 than YB.
So ATM, neither SoS or FA is full. In fact SOS has dropped to “high”
Why is there no concerted effort to stack these servers out of balance; I thought there was a sentiment to break the t1 wall for more variety. Or is variety just having 4 stacked servers overrun the other two and deciding which is the fourth one?
Because there aren’t 4 stacked servers, there are 2 stacked servers: JQ/YB…… BG/TC are virtually dead, neither server can queue map except for reset where they can queue 1.

Nah, it still works, you only have to build slippery enough not to get caught by 5+ ganking groups. That’s why you see a lot of PU mesmers running around.
^^^
This. So much this. Especially in T2.I dont know about other tiers, but I switched to PU mes cuz YB. Only time I die is when I choose to, like when I jsut get tired of kitten and yolo into a zerg and condi bomb them etc. and on rare occasion when I run into someone thats better then me and actually decide to let combat play itself all the way through. I can disengage and end any combat I want otherwise.
O and if it wasnt for the latest PU patch, I’d be doing it on my thief, even more stealth cheese. Choose your evil.
And this is why roaming is dead.
I don’t mind fighting PU condi mesmers or condi thieves but if you lose, you need to stay and die. Running around the BLs for 15 minutes looking for a fight only for my opponent to run when low is stupid.
Nobody fights to the death anymore. It’s either thieves or mesmers who run away or it’s necros and eles who tower hug so they can shroud or most form to safety. It’s bad enough I have to spend so much time looking for fights but I’m not even getting enough gold to supplement my food cost.

i think that if people have to keep saying that t1 is the only viable place for sea and ocx, it just means they are not confident with that “fact”, thus is a propaganda.
Or the SEA/OCX players organize like the GvG guilds did and spread out over three servers in lower tiers (cheaper xfer rate, guaranteed fights, friends/family can join, etc.).
Not really viable due to the volatility of those tiers. If the matchup gets screwed up, it’ll be a snoozefest for at least 1 server.
Anyone that thinks there’s enough OCX/SEA/EU below T2 to stay competitive is dreaming. There’s not even enough in tier 1 to have good competitive fights. Previous seasons have also shown that even T1’s vastly diminished OCX~EU coverage completely and utterly dominates T2.
There’s like, 4-5 SEA guilds in T1 worth a fight. No OCX guild that focuses on fights. EU guilds raids on T1NA servers are non-existent since they all lead large pug blobs. All this because there’s simply not enough people out there to recruit keep WvW guilds that raid in those time zones healthy, especially people that want to challenge themselves and get better.
There’s only enough of OCX, SEA and EU players on NA for 3, maybe 4 servers if we want to have good matchups.
Hey now, there’s one OCX guild that focuses on fights, it’s just that our choice is to blob your 6 with our 20 or have our 20 get blobbed by KILLs 60.
We’d play more often if we had someone to consistently fight but 9 out of 10 nights it’s either PvD or get blobed. That being said, we’d consider moving out of tier to get good fights but you’re never going to get KILL, SoX or Defy away from those doors.

When you put two teams of equal skill against each other, one being full of solos and the other being an organized group, the organized group will win at least 9 out of 10 matches because communication and group cohesion play such a huge role in SPvP.
This leads to solo players being underrated by the system and group players being overrated by the system. You’d have to have a perfect mix of 50% solo and 50% group games to receive a correct rating, I’d dare say that less than 5% of players is properly rated.
Because of the way the system works you’re going to have a lot of these streaks where you win a lot of games in situations where your whole team is underrated then follow it up with a lot of loses in games where your whole team is overrated.
The only way to get consistent matches with near equal players is to split back up soloQ and teamQ.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
I have no idea how the average queue is less than 3 minutes at any point. That means that for every Nos out there, there’s like 7 people getting instant queues.
My queues are near instant, like almost always under 10 seconds. I’m pretty bad and play builds I enjoy that usually suck ie I lose a lot.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Hi. I was just wondering how it is possible and fair that i have to wait 15 mins on avg for a q pop and sometimes break records as the picture shows whereas new accounts don’t encounter this issue.
Because you need 4 bad players to form a team but a group of 3 only needs 2 bad players to form a team. So their group forms first and goes, meanwhile you sit there forever.
Unfortunately, if you want shorter queues you need to grab a few scrubs to drag your rank down, either that, or make ANet put back in soloQ.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Queue on a character that doesn’t have the booster then switch at the start of the match to prolong them. They also stack now as well.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Obviously personal attacks on devs who have nothing to do with marketing is deplorable. However, there is no real evidence that this has occurred. So far, it’s just a lot of upset customers voicing their opinions on marketing. In my humble opinion, guilt-tripping people with a false narrative is just as deplorable as actual harassment. .
Amen, I’ve been following all those threads pretty closely and I have yet to see even 1 personal attack toward an employee. Nobody is angry at the devs, at least nobody was, now people are angry because they’re playing the victim card unjustly.
They just keep shooting themselves in the foot over and over again.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
We won a match earlier in 1 minute and 53 seconds.
Both teams spawned all door breakers, pushed the guards then the lord. We beat them by about 2-3 seconds roughly.
My big fear with this map is that people will just double push like we did during that game. 500 rank points is 2 minutes beats 1500 in a full 10+ minute game so losing even has its advantage.
And why does anyone care about rank point when leveling to r80 is a cake walk?
Champion titles are all that matters.
Fair enough but the implication is the same. Winning 50% of your matches every 2 minutes is better than winning 100% of your matches every 10+ minutes.

Seems like they’re trying to kick the ‘for fights’ crowd out of the game.

This is going to be a PvE win traders dream.
You can win in under 2 minutes if the other team doesnt defend. Can’t wait to see that on live.

My first impression after 5 games…….LoL but worse.

maybe because you’re not a TES player?
i love ESO, the lore is interesting, the quests are dynamic, the world is alive all the time.
it even has a battle system that can be used by your self, unlike GW2 it’s not all autopilot.it’s still to each their own but to say it’s a bad game shows ignorance, clearly there are plenty of ppl saying the exact same thing about GW2 and do like ESO.
i like both, GW2 for the fantasy settings and fast battles and ESO for the lush world and self control of battles.if anything, GW2 is less what GW1 is while ESO is more so, based on player skill not time and gear.
You may be right, but I just don’t think ESO is that popular. At this moment the Elder Scrolls Online reddit has 160 people online compared to the Guild Wars 2 reddit which has 737 Online. Now of course reddit doesn’t mean everything, but when you realize that this game JUST went free to play, that’s a shockingly low turnout for their reddit.
Looking at this Xfire page http://classic.xfire.com/cms/stats/ we see that Guild Wars 2 is at the moment in the top ten, where as ESO isn’t even in the Top 20.
It might not be a bad game, but there is plenty about it that is problematical. Because if they could have kept charging a sub, they would have.
It may be that when the game is out on consoles it’ll do better, but it hasn’t really captured the public imagination, and considering that it should have soared, piggybacking off Skyrim was it did, well, it’s just a kitten ed shame.
The game felt completely generic to me, and even though quests were all voiced, most of the ones in the early going were so mundane, I can’t imagine how anyone stayed around long enough to find out if the game got better. I know I couldn’t.
LOL…..
Dude, that’s Guild Wars 1. That chart is 6 years old. Heck, Warhammers been shutdown for 2.5 years. Hahahabahahab………
Yah, no wonder ESO ain’t on the chart. Bahahahahaba….

JQ may very well have had more players last night.
The cap was changed on the fly if JQ had a full map queue and the others did not it would stand to reason that JQ would have more players till they left.
But this is WvW, it’s not about fair or balance. So while you’re probably right, it makes no difference.

Hey Stephen, given the issue, is there a reason one player may have significantly less lag over another? Or why a certain group of players would have less lag issues then others?
I have been seeing complaints for 2 weeks or so now, but it has not effected any of the 5 players in my home, even with all of us on at the same time. Any idea why some would be more effected then others?
We did start getting some with last nights reset, even then it seemed that we were getting less then others were complaining about?
Your thoughts?
Wanted to ask if you think this is “just” a bug or if the recent patch has caused extra work for the servers?
My working hypothesis is that there is a bug in the “catch up” code.
Are you in Edge of the Mists? There’s no lag at all in there regardless of fight size. Lag seems to be a borderlands issue. Also what tier do you play in?
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
World views and personal preferences aren’t welcome in map or any other chat according to the rules of conduct.
Over time I’ve seen people discussing God/Allah in chat as though he exists. As an Atheist, I find this offensive, just as a Christian or a Muslim would find it offensive if I talked about his lack of existence. Yet these people don’t get warned. I have previously received angry whispers from some players for talking openly about Atheism in Say chat (which I have since learned from an no longer bring any kind of cultural views into chat).
Silencing them is not the answer. That’s their tactic, don’t stoop to their level.
Free speech only works if everyone is allowed to speak freely. Now I know the parent company of this game doesn’t believe in free speech, but you shouldn’t stoop to their level either.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Not a fan of PC policing. Sometimes it feels like being human is a crime.
That being said it’s ANets game, they can police it how they choose.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
I’d recommend sPvP
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
It’s the servers.
You go into the alpine BL map and any 40v40 fight or larger and there’s massive skill lag.
You go into EotM and have a 100v100v100 massive brawl and there’s no skill lag at all.
Why? Alpine BLs and EotM are on different servers.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
The map looks good. A lot of open terrain for fighting. Nice to see such a large map as well, going to be hard to zerg the entire map given its size.
Can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Ever walk into WvW and have an 80v80 zerg fight where no one can get their skills off?
The same thing is happening here to the world bosses. They all do have extra skills, they just can’t get them off because they’re bogged down.
Taidha is suppose to lead you around the ship, Shatterer is suppose to crystallize half the raid, Shadow Behemoth is suppose to drop an AoE similar to Meteor Shower, Megadestroyer is suppose to lava font half the raid, Ulgoth is suppose to floor the area with tornados.
But the bosses can’t get their skills off and a lot of them were designed for 10-20 people as opposed to 150. Like GolemMKII, if you only had 10 people you couldn’t sit on the afk spot because you’d get flooded with inquest.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Our entire Oceanic guild got invites except for the 3 Americans.
That’s some mighty nice xenophobia you got there.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
By far, the worst lag I’ve ever experienced.
It’s even worse than the old 20 second in between skill lag.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
“oh noes this affect my hammer train, now ill need to adapt but i woooont”
Please enlighten us all with how you adapt to a larger group dumping CC’s on your head far more than you could ever stack stability?
You can’t not run into it, they’re on your head.
You can’t stack up to avoid max targets, they have unlimited targets.
You can’t be coordinated and rush around, because again CC’s on your head. The only options with the amount of CC now is to stay range and blob attack back or build Siege equipment. That’s it. Those are your two choices. It’s unbelievably boring and stale.
No matter how good your argument is, no matter how much detail it contains, no matter how much experience you’ve put into it, you’re never going to be able to convince some people that global warming is real.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
You think it’s bad now.
Wait till everyone realizes the only way to counter the ‘pirate ship’ meta is to out range the necros ie rangers.
We’re two weeks away from 50 man power ranger trains.

Did you guys really think you could bring some marketing guy off the street from the greater Seattle area and pass him off as a prominent Blackgate commander?
How stupid do you think we are?
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
It is a two fold problem. The first is that the bugs persist that allow it and the second is the game has zero in-game admins. Nothing can be done on our end to stop it all we can do is tolerate it. Course for many there are limits and other games to play.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Same ole, same ole.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
For real, what server are we stacking too?
If ANet didnt want us to stack, they wouldn’t tie rewards in to an such an unbalanced game mode.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
You:
- SAB is fun, please bring it back.
ANet:
- SAB uses a lot of bandwidth and doesn’t generate enough revenue, do not bring it back.
It’s money, guys/gals. Your fun is not a metric that ANet tracks.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
You give them an update and they still cry about it!
They’re charging us 1200 gold to have this update. There isn’t a WvW player in the game that has a casual 1200 gold sitting aside that he/she earned from playing WvW.
This update is being sold on the gem store for roughly $175.
Ain’t nothing being given here.
Envy – Fort Aspenwood
Hope there’s some understanding in the office that different color commander badges, new siege mastery lines, and a glicko reset are not going to cut it.
If that’s the best you can do, don’t bother. Because that’s just going to kitten everyone off.
