I would love to see what you’ve been running lately, been messing around with some builds myself. Also curious what do you think of healing breeze? Personally it works better for my team than shelter (though it is easier to interrupt) and I was curious what your thoughts are on the heal. Shelter definitely seems the best all-around heal choice but do you ever run breeze?
Shelter is used mainly for the block, I rarely find myself needing it to heal.
Thanks for the input guys.
I used it after the patch, porting with binding blade, proccing rage and getting off full ww sounded strong on paper.
In reality that happens 1/10 times, it has a pretty huge cd so when it procs when you can’t burst yet and you just want to pressure with leap and autos and stuff (dueling warriors and they still have their stab/endure pain, just starting a teamfight or stuff like that) it won’t be up again when you want it and the best thing that can happen is that you quickness stomp somebody.
Also quickness shelter is not really something you want to happen ever.
Just using sigils that deal damage USUALLY give you more damage, running rage for the one time the quickness ww actually hits doesn’t really seem worth it, the cooldown is just too big (although i can obviously see why they wouldn’t want 9s cooldown quickness to be a thing).
I use leeching and fire now, leeching is a reliable hit with ji or after imob from scepter, 1k dmg, 1k heal, pretty nice with your low healthpool, nice spike plus for your burst after weaponswap and fire obviously reliable aoe dmg that actually hits the thing i want to hit and doesn’t get wasted on clones, spirits or smth when I want to burst something or just cleave on a downed body.
These are just way more reliable and considering the cooldown a way better damage plus.
EDIT: Stop using ji+whirling wrath, start using ji+binding blade and pull into ww. More reliable, actually hits decent players and way easier to pull people into the shield of wrath explosion than just to port with it and hope they didn’t see you and won’t dodge.
Actually the reverse is better on paper, on paper you ignore reaction times, ping etc. meaning the ideal sigils would just be higher damage as if you play perfectly you’re going to be more effective.
Rage got the c/d reduction so the 30’s isn’t bad at all and the quickness stomp never works because you run out of quickness too early.
I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think anybody is stupid enough to quickness shelter.
I think the DPS factor I’m overlooking a little bit due to relying on it as a fallback if your WW/SoW misses but I still think without rage it’s wayyy too easy to avoid too much of the GS’s damage:
- Whirling Wrath
– You don’t even need to dodge all of it, just some of the damage. It has huge indicators and is easy to dodge
- Binding Blade
– Big Indicators, again, making it easy to dodge
- Binding Blade’s Pull
– Once again another big indicator making it easy to dodge and although you do get knocked down you don’t get pulled.
With rage they’re nowhere near as easy to dodge, not to mention if you get the jump with JI.
I mean this is all practical too, you were basically saying you can land the GS’s DPS easily without Rage and I don’t find that really to be the case.
This is the best overall. Some builds can be better against certain stuff but this build is the best if you don’t want to change your builds between 1v1s.
I’m running this with different sigils. Works extremely well for me. Sword is better over scepter in quite a few duels but in general scepter is better.
Just started really playing again so my previous experience may be out of date that’s why I’m asking.
So here are a few dot points as to why the GS has taken over completely now:
- Prior to the patch (Dual sigils on 2h/rage buff)
– Rage proc was bad (even knowing how to use it properly it rarely proc’d in good situations)
– GS only had one sigil which pretty much meant Fire (some people said hydromancy but I’ll explain why that never worked in a sec)
- GS as a weapon
– Extremely easy to dodge all skills
– WW must be mid cast to use with JI therefore on swap sigils (Hydromancy) were useless
– Reliant on allied control or enemies not dodging
– Good for faking out/drawing out dodges so that other skills land
- Since the patch
– Rage always procs
– Hard to dodge now with rage
– Binding can give you more control over targets you know dont have Breaks, with JI it’s impossible to counter without a break
– You have a bonus sigil, so you can get more damage or survivability
So with all the obvious advantages of using rage now I don’t really see at all why people shouldn’t use it.
It has bumped the GS from your below average weapon to the strongest guardian damage weapon by a huge margin.
Am I missing something?
Going to update the builds later today to what I’ve been playing recently.

I don’t spend much time looking through the forums so I’ll just list off a few responses you may get.
- Scepter is a really good weapon for damage (due to its huge amount of individual attacks), setting up burst with snares and quickly killing clones and other ai.
- If you don’t know how to land the auto attacks they’re easily kited as mentioned above, learn when to use and not use it correctly and you’ll be better than fine.
- Feel free to change around sigils but unless they were nerfed a few weeks after the sigil update they’re good.
- The reason GS is super common atm is because of the huge, huge buff to sigil of rage and the 2 slot sigils on 2hd weapons. You’ll Always proc rage on WW and that means it will mostly land.
- Focus with Scepter, not with your sword, I shouldn’t have to tell people this when these basic were figured out within one week of beta release.
- 1 in Honour and Virtues is pretty much non-negotiable in pvp.
Anyway the reason this is all outshone by the GS is listed above and every 1v1 duel I played after the sigil update I needed a sword to go with the GS to win. My win rate just went to nearly 100% swapping out the scepter.
pz
interesting, cuz i run that same build except running rage on sword since we’re specced so far into it. you definitely sound like you have more success than me.
PvP is honestly almost 100% dodging based, mechanically. The better you are at dodging the better you’re going to do, makes more of an impact than build or anything else tbh.

I haven’t been able to do anything recently due to being hacked. No kittening clue how but I can’t play until it’s resolved.
@red: I think you linked the wrong build XD
@Blas: I’m testing them now, I don’t play 8 hours a day like I used to so it takes a lot longer. I’m looking more at control style DPS symbol builds rather than moar domoge. They seem to be doing well with the 2 extra sigils.
Not convinced bane signet is the best option.
As for which heal to use I think it really just a case of no healing power + AH use shelter.
High healing + no AH use signet.
Receving stacks of might from shelter are to unreliable, compared to 4.5k extra heal and a condition removal (as weak as it is).
After saying all this in a DPS build shelter would win every time, but in a tanky build with high toughness and condition removal the extra hp is more important.
just IMO, whatever, enjoy the game !
This is pvp…
Shelter is just miles better in all cases. If you’re not blocking the appropriate damage you’re using it incorrectly. Rarely ever is there an instance when I use Shelter than Signet would have been a better choice.
Guardians don’t use their heal unless it’s a last resort, it’s used as an invulnerability first and foremost
If you really aren’t blocking enough unfortunately it’s a l2p issue.
Also we’re talking about pvp here not wvw, AH is used in very specific builds (certain teamfight bunker builds and some DPS ones) and doesn’t actually change anything either way.
Shelter is always stronger.
Unless you don’t know what you’re doing.… Because? Is it because everyone uses it?
Give some constructive criticism, will you.
Too lazy, I’ve talked about it hundreds of times. Go watch some videos where I go over it in detail or soemthing.
Shelter is always stronger.
Unless you don’t know what you’re doing.
…
1. Excuse me?! What about Aegis removal heal(only self by the way), signet heal, dodge roll heal, GS heal(VS spirit ranger and minionmancer, it’s pure hax), Regeneration from focus/SY, virtue of resolve? Does that seem as little healing to you?
This is not entirely DPS build, and 3med build is ofcourse stronger 1v1(though I beg to differ in WvW), but 3med doesn’t have Purging Flames, Save Yourselves, Empowering Strikes(AOE might), dodge roll heals to share with your allies.
2. Focus #4, Virtue of Resolve x2, Signet 1 condition/5 seconds(know-how channel interrupts), Consecrating Flames, Sigil of Generosity. The cure ability is far beyond 3-med build for instance.
3. It still seems quite strong to me. Protection and Vigor especially, more so after Vigor nerf.
4. 180 power is a very welcome damage increase of around 10%, even more because it’s not a cleric amulet but Celestial one. It rounds up the stats, and the active is very versatile and can be used in multiple situations.
5. Signet removes a condition once every 5 seconds, and heals twice as much as Shelter. Even if you would negate ~5k damage in shelter(which is highly unlikely against a skilled foe), Signet still wins. You have to be more skilled than with Shelter however, and watch out for interrupts or you can be screwed.
6. It. Is. Not. A. Cleric. Amulet.
7. I win all duels versus warriors(hambows, condi warriors, etc). Guardian’s have high skill ceiling in negating key abilities with well-timed blinds and blocks. 1 stunbreaker is more than enough, and it’s not like meditation build has more(two? If you use JI which is pretty lackluster imho).
And finally, as I’ve said, ‘tis not a full DPS and not a support bunker. It’s somewhere inbetween. Moreso your so called DPS build you linked completely lacks any swiftness, which is as bad as it gets for a roamer.
And I’m not a newbie. I’m 34/13 in team arena and 145/110 in solo, ranked as 400 and 700 in both at the moment, and I only play Guardian, in all builds, from 3 med and bunker to the one I’ve posted here – and I’ve found it enjoyable.
Sorry, just being a little bit mad, especially when you drop completely invalid points about comparing it to 3med in a duel, or such as it having low healing, low condition removal, or about cleric amulet which it certainly does not sport.
Not really too interested in responding to all of these, would take too long and it’s boring and obvious where you’re wrong, but Shelter > Signet in all situations. Except 1v1 against another Guardian (sometimes), certain condi-necros or D/D ele. Those are the only situations. And we could duel and I can show you how inferior it is to an optimized build.
But if you enjoy playing it, go for it, nobody’s stopping you.
I actually like that Sireph mentioned some opening on some of the games. I’ve never played tPvP with a team, but mentioning what opening were done gave me insight as a non-PvPer.
I learned two types of openings: Risky and Safe. Not sure if there are other openings out there, but starting with that might help non-PvPers who are watching the game.
And I think whatever a team’s opening is, the casters may explain what the risks and the rewards of such an opening is. But not immediately. They might remind the viewers what the specific team opened with. And when we enter mid-game, the casters could emphasize on the benefits of the opening if it worked out, or the fallout of an opening if it failed.
That’s my two copper as a non-tPvPer.
This is a good idea!
Haha so sorry I linked the wrong build by accident! I wasn’t trolling XD, yeah Guards are bad at being Necros.
I fixed the link in the OP

The toughness on Rabid I’m thinking outweighs the health from carrion, even though it increases DS hp too.
Yeah, I said for small scale roaming but I forgot you can also roam in pvp so will edit my post to clarify.
Oh righto!
Sorry bout that.
I thought you were talking about pvp, healway doesn’t exist there. Was I wrong about that?
I have more changes coming when I have a day off work =(
This is still really relevant since there was barely any improvement on the second day. Hopefully they take note by the time the more important ToL starts.
Healway = pve/wvw
Bunker = pvp
Here’s the standard build: http://tinyurl.com/lkepj5q
You can also find my guide on a sticky at the top of this forum, which contains all the builds you’ll need.
Hey guys!
I play every proff but I generally rotate through them and focus on my least played proff every once in a while, which happens to be Necromancer. I haven’t played Necro in a long time though so I made a build which I thought would be pretty strong in PvP.
Build:http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNArYWjc0UcbRNm3wfbigBRyWdiuRgIUmMKA-TJRFwAAeCAK3fIaZAFnCAA
Things I haven’t decided on yet:
- Earth/Fire/Rage/Icy/Nulification Sigils, which do you guys think would work the best?
- Well of darkness seems pretty important, I find its utility extremely powerful and wins myself a lot of fights against burst classes.
- I was running carrion ammy but rabid seems a lot stronger in this meta.
- Lingering curse or Path of Corruption? Which one would be stronger for this build?
Any other suggestions or criticisms?
Edit: fixed the link haha!

One thing I’d like to add is:
- Please don’t use the fixed camera angles from the minimap as much.
Focus on the third person perspective from individual players; that way we can see
when and how cds are used.
We can see dodges far better and it gives a greater feel of action while being far more
clear as to what’s actually happening.
I did mention it and emboldened it, but you’re right I should have given it a separate dot point.
Today I watched some of the ToL.
Then I got bored. Super bored. I know I didn’t watch the whole thing (a whole random lot of segments so that I could see how the gameplay/casting has progressed) but I have some constructive feedback for you. Hopefully you take it into account and don’t think I’m trying to mock you in anyway (for once I’m being all nice and cheerful). Without further ado here’s my advice for super-easy-to-fix-casting-mistakes.
Camera Control
Viewers don’t have control over what’s viewed on screen. This means that your camera control has to be good enough to encapsulate your audience by showing the amazing graphics/animations of the game as well as plays the players make while keeping up with the fast pace of the game. Unfortunately there are a few huge mistakes made throughout the tournament that really need to be addressed as they draw from the experience making the viewer feel un-immersed.
- I’m not sure who is controlling the camera but stop changing to the map view. It’s boring and you already have the map down the bottom right if you haven’t realised. Keep it up at the very start to show each team’s opening strategy and close it for the rest of the game! It detracts from the gameplay entirely too, if you had a pause button it may be okay (obviously there isn’t one).
- A few times the camera was just idle and even worse sometimes it was viewing nothing. You’re not giving people that “action feeling” like something interesting or intense is happening. Follow players and if it gets way too chaotic (which even in teamfights it doesn’t if you pick the correct player) then move to the camera position above the fight. Following players keeps the viewership immersed and interested.
- Don’t talk about off-camera events, go to them if they’re really important and add side messages about what’s happening on the smaller scale fight. Most intense fight comes first!
Gameplay Explanation
Not everybody has strong knowledge of game mechanics of pvp strategies. You’re catering for only an audience who already knows these basics (and in some cases more advanced mechanics) but that’s not your job. You have to give information to those people who have minimal knowledge or none at all or your viewership will just straight up die.
- Explain what is happening and why, I know you guys don’t have as much experience as other pvp games’ casters do but at least learn the tactics of this one. If you already know them Great!! Tell the audience what is happening, not “XYZ is going over to here and he’s going to fight him, SJDF is running away now because he’s almost dead. He’s dodging a lot!” although that sounds exaggerated, it’s almost exactly the way it was worded in the replay.
Say things like “XYZ is falling off the point because the pressure put on by WAJ’s conditions were too high, he’s going to try fall back to his ally who will assist him in the fight.” I know it sounds a bit silly but you’re not engaging enough. - Go through builds quickly, concisely and explain how they work in their comp and on the map. Ignore the “0 1 6 6 1” you take wayyyyy too long and never get both teams analysed. Just say what the build is and what it does. If you don’t know research before you’re casting the biggest tournament in GW2 so far…
- Emphasize important and big plays, such as dodging/blocking/blinding important skills which lead to stomps. Not only the stomps themselves (unless obviously there’s a big play involved in stomping). Way, way, way too many times you miss things like burst damage being blinded by an amazing reactionary VoJ active, winning the team fight but then you emphasize the stomp when the team has nobody up to save them anyway.
Well I hope this will help you for the coming days and you can improve on your casting abilities, you have a lot resting on your shoulders with regards of promoting this game as fun to watch. Keep Practicing.

Hero Battles was a pretty cool game mode in GW1, now you guys have finally brought it back in the form of soloq.
You get four bots (afaik) which understand basic chat commands and you flag them to different capture points by spamming the ping button. It’s pretty cool but, of course, has some draw backs as they aren’t nearly as smart as real players.
Things I like about Hero Battles:
- Chat commands work
- Low wait times
- Play against other 1 human 4 bot teams
Things I dislike about Hero Battles:
- Sometimes the bot use skills randomly in silly ways, need to fix these coding errors!
- Sometimes my bots crash and leave the game, do bots get dishonour?
- Most classes haven’t been implemented yet. Just Warrior/Thief/Mesmer afaik.
- Sometimes bots don’t follow your commands and you end up losing (fix this, I’m pretty sure it’s not lag they just don’t go to the correct waypoints)
- Bots prioritize Svanir/Chief over winning capture points and can make you lose the game.
- Red Resign Day
Well hopefully you can fix these Hero Battles problems and we can get back to happily enjoying it! Thanks again for bringing it back =)!
New builds updated, My video is on my twitch channel. I’ve been interrupted 3 times when attempting to make it so I gave up haha.
There may be a few changes over the coming days and DPS is getting a revamp!
Yeah Pirates fixed now, not even close to what it was hitting, I’m testing a few runes out still, Strength’s looking very good!
I’m going to make a video addressing your comment Tobey, there’s a lot to go through. Before I do though, the short answer is: yes, you don’t need to bring the snare due to the team comps you would play a burst guardian in.
Idk why atm but AI is so broken right now, it can easily hit 3k and it hits quite often. So until they fix/nerf it, I’ll be using that or strength.
From testing so far I’ve found these two DPS/Burst builds to be the strongest so far:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-7Fcg;1NFk30G3wF-90;9;494T4J1;309B;108-SRF6Y;1k2Ewk2Ew5BV
and
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-7Fc3d;0NFk30G3wF-90;9;5TT44;159A09B;4SZG66;1k2Ewk2Ew5BQ
The sigils buffed the GS a gigantic amount, to the point it’s extremely viable.
A lot of new changes due to the patch, I’m back and actively playing now too. Big nerf to Mace Burst and a big change to the Bunker so we’ll see how we go!
Will have an update in a day or 2.
Purity of Body I’ve found to be really good, the rest suck.
Always 0 in Zeal, making a good build here, not an average one.
I always run Mace-Scepter / Scepter-Mace. Easily the best combination, don’t want peeps kiting my kitten.
I’ve uploaded these two pictures so you can all see.
*Stats are bugged for some reason.
Enjoy!
Hammer / Scepter-Focus is really strong at the moment. With 10530520 it’s easily the toughest Meditation build to take down. So if you’re that interested in playing a Hammer Burst build, that’s a good one to check out (don’t forget binding jeopardy).
I’ve found the Mace to be the most amazing burst weapon by far. The burst is not only condensed into a single strike but is also aoe. Even though the mace doesn’t have a mobility skill like the Sword and GS the speed of the burst means you have a lot more mobility in a fight.
The second important point is that it’s a counter-play weapon. Your enemy initiates and instead of playing defensive you turn their initiate into your initiate. This eliminates their immediate ability to defensively react and gives you a free chunk of their health. The build reminds me of a League of Legends joke, where Blitzcrank pulls Leona into his team’s ADC, they’ve essentially given you a free initiate and an advantage. This is the main reason the mace works on good players, backpoint attackers will generally be completely countered by your build due to the counter-play play style.
Which brings me to my final point: Mace doesn’t have to sacrifice any traits to be aggressive and works extremely well with RHS.
Mace is just difficult to play and if played poorly is easily read, you may as well play one of the telegraph burst weapons (sword/GS) if you can’t react to skills fast enough. But if you want to learn/get better/outscale your friends (the term I use when you and your friends progress at a similar rate in skill but their class has way less telegraphed skills/way more sustain so they end up being better than you) I would suggest the mace.
Well I guess I’m back to have a look through the patch, hopefully it isn’t bad for the Guardian.
Gerdiern?
Its intereseting cuz i have some pvp weapons that are extremly expensive in pve. Like wings of dwayna. I wonder how that will work. And the fact that arah armor is a million times more time consuming to get in pve than it is pvp…
Wrong way round buddy. Everything is significantly easier to get in pve. Thousands of Hours in PvP = rewards from less than 50 in pve.
The recent glory update didn’t actually do much for the people who were already higher rank, just let the lower rank players get the same gear with less play time.
I mean the best example is CoF armour. Few thousand hours to rank 50 pvp or <24hours in pve. PvP is the hardest area in the game (which is really not saying much anymore) so it should reward the highest.
I knew Valentin was a baddy but I can’t believe how right I was.
That was the most pathetic display of kitten -backward scrubbery i’ve seen in a GW2 video. Terribad isn’t even the beginning of how awful that crap was. Puke-tier trash gameplay carried by Anet’s ineptitude
Anet take notes. If a keyboard turning clicker can win 1v1s then you’re doing it wrong. Really wrong.
This goes to show why this game will never require any semblance of skill and why nothing Anet does is ever going to fix that.
They cater to idiots and morons
you’re an idiot calling people baddies. who the hell are you anyway? you got nothing, dude. i’ve been on top 600 on teamq and top 300 on soloq before i stopped playing pvp and moved to wvw. you’re just another thrash-talker scrub.
Im currently r9 Team leaderboards (2 is highest) and r27 Solo (4 is highest), I find myself more than qualified to call u bad….. You not only have no clue about the game, but after watching your “tutorial” i have confirmed u are terrible at it
-Backpacko aka Blackpack aka The jugglerwas i talking to you? do not be an attention wh***. if you wanna duel me just msg me, ig. stop butting in to other people’s conversations. btw, the reason i quit pvp was because of people using third party software in teamq (speedhacks). you might have gotten your rank through that.
By speed hacks do you mean keybinds?
no, smart kitten . i mean people who use speed hacks to jump all over the map. necro’s rezzing themselves after being killed 1v1. the usual thing you see in wvw but people got braver and brought it to pvp. that ruined pvp. havent you noticed nobody plays pvp anymore? i couldnt care less if everyone gets nerfed to oblivion.
No…. bad mechanics and balance ruined pvp… Not the almost-zero amount of hackers that have nearly completely been banned out. I’ve seen one ever and that was in 2012.
Wastrels Demise was the single biggest, massive, giant, huge f up in the entire gw1. Why would you bring that to gw2?
i eat engineers for lunch on my zerker ranger.
Worst video I’ve seen since that warrior was whining about how warriors were bad because he was.
one of the worst fights i played. i admit that. but that was my first attempt to capture a duel. btw, i challenge you to play a zerker ranger and beat a decap engi 1v1. how about that? i’m sure it wont be that hard for you guys since you are so “good”.
Well I could play engi and just beat you, would that be good enough? I don’t play ranger and ele.
There’s about 50 different things completely wrong with that video just on your gameplay alone, let alone the other guy who can’t even use his heal properly. If he knew how his heal worked and played just the exact same, you would’ve lost.lol… you dont know anything but playing your braindead class. your opinion doesnt matter. try playing a zerker class for once.
I play all classes and pretty much every build, but I don’t play the pathetic spam that is the ranger (although almost everything is spam, the ranger is the absolute peak) and ele because it’s been boring for a while now.
Although absolutely everything in this game is kitten easy, ranger/warrior are the easiest by MIIIIIIILES.
dude, your class have the shortest cd on your cc skills. youre playing a braindead class. no need to deny it.
Well I play every class, the only class I would reference as ‘my class’ is Guardian. I also don’t play decap engi, but if you really want you can come 1v1 me the same way you did him. I’ll record too (so you won’t lag), then there’s no excuses and you can see literally everybody else’s point of view.
who’s everybody? dont confuse people with your twisted thoughts, which class do you want me to use then? mesmer, necro, ele, ranger, or thief?
Exactly the same scenario.
I just straight up mean everybody bar you. You’re the only one who resides in your current delusion.you’re boring. i will message you later, IG.
We can go a round right now.

I’ll record too (so you won’t lag), then there’s no excuses and you can see literally everybody else’s point of view.
i eat engineers for lunch on my zerker ranger.

“…and i was playing in a dark room.”
tell us more pleasei didnt have the lights on, Einstein. dont hate because your class got pawned by an underpowered spec.
I don’t think you understand that barely beating a newbie engineer player doesn’t count as valid evidence that engineers are bad. In fact, you were at 2k health at the end of the fight and your pet was dead.
what build do you think i was using? if i was playing a braindead spirit ranger like you i wouldnt even think of getting that duel captured.
What were you thinking when you recorded yourself almost dying to a newb engineer who didn’t even know how to use his heal and posted it on youtube? I can’t even begin to fathom lol
i was running a zerker squishy ranger build fighting against a condi-bunker engi. what do you expect? i didnt have much toughness and regen unlike a spirit ranger.
I’m saying you only won because that was probably that guys first ever game as an Engineer. You can’t sit there and say it’s really easy to beat when if you were playing against anybody knows pretty much anything about engineer will just wreck you.
All I know is sometimes if the guard pops Renewed Focus while carrying the orb and drops it you can’t pick it up for 2 seconds allowing the guardian to pick it up again once the cast is finished. Is this a bug/feature or lag on my part?
Invuln.

I think this is a pretty good idea although I don’t like the idea of making GS higher sustain over all the other Guardian weapons.
Move sustain from dodge rolls / boons to weapon heals would be good idea, more versatility in the sigils, runes and utility skills.
Haven’t really thought through much in the Zeal line tbh, we’re too dedicated to specific minor traits which need to change first.
