It is, as many have stated, NOT a case of “we want the new stuff for free”, it’s a case of “we want the old stuff which we already paid for without having to pay for it again”.
Guild Banners were in the game at the time of release, on the 28th of August 2012. In other words, guild buffs – whether swiftness, experience, karma, gathering, or anything in between – are and always have been a core game mechanic. What has changed since? They can be obtained at a new location, and for longer, and they are one-time unlocks. Does this change the mechanic of guild buffs, that is, reaping the rewards from coming together as a group? It does not. Neither location, duration, or which screen you unlock them on does not change the fact that getting there is a guild collaboration for guild-wide rewards, which is what guild buffs have been about since day one.
The guild buffs have not changed, and yet they’re locked behind a paywall. One that some people can’t motivate paying up for. I’m not one of them – I own the expansion, I have a level 80 Revenant, I’ve got guild XP buffs activated on all my nine characters. But I also have what so many others seem to lack – maybe it just hasn’t dropped from Tequatl or Shadow Behemoth yet, maybe it’s not been unlocked in the PvP reward track yet. That thing is compassion. Compassion for all of those who still don’t feel like a handful of maps, a 4-5 hour story, a new class with very limited skill customizability and a few new specs for the existing classes is worth as much as a brand-new triple-A title with over a hundred hours of gameplay to its name. These people just want to play this game like when they bought it. Why is that so wrong?
If any ArenaNet personnel read this, I implore you. Let those playing the core game do so with the core game content. Don’t lock it behind a paywall, no matter how large or small. Show compassion for those with thin wallets, with too few hours to the day, or with a thousand other reasons not to buy the expansion just yet. Let guild buffs belong to the guild, not to the jungle.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Jigain

Oh, I’ve got a ton of them. Good? Bad? I’ll leave that for you to decide. Lean back and enjoy.
My love for you is like a concave up function because it is always increasing.
I wish I was your derivative so I could lie tangent to your curves.
I’d like to plug my solution into your equation.
Since distance equals velocity times time, let’s let velocity and time approach infinity, because I want to go all the way with you.
I don’t know if you’re in my range, but I’d sure like to take you back to my domain.
I’ll take you to your limit if you show me your end behavior.
Being without you is like being a metric space in which exists a cauchy sequence that does not converge.
You are the solution to my homogeneous system of linear equations.
I heard you’re good at algebra – Could you replace my X without asking Y?
Let me integrate our curves so that I can increase our volume.
If I were a function you would be my asymptote – I always tend towards you.
Your beauty cannot be spanned by a finite basis of vectors.
You’ve got more curves than a triple integral.
You’re sin^2x and I’m cos^2x, and together we make one.
Why don’t you be the numerator and I be the denominator and both of us reduce to simplest form?
You must be the square root of -1 because you can’t be real.
How about you come to my place tonight, so I can show you the growth of my natural log?
How about I perform a sort on your variables, and you can analyse my performance?
You are one well-defined function.
Why can’t love be a one to one function? Then our relationship could be injective.
I would really like to bisect your angle.
Meeting you is like a switch to polar coordinates: complex and imaginary things are given a magnitude and a direction.
Whoops, I think my binomials just expanded.
I’m overheating because you’re stuck in my head like an infinite loop.
At absolute zero, you would still move me.
Why don’t we measure the coefficient of static friction between me and you?
My vector has a really large magnitude. Would you care to normalize it?
Your beauty defies real and complex analysis.

The golems actually play that song specifically when the day-and-night cycle switches from day to night night to day. A little extra info. Also, I’m pretty sure that the ditty is part of, or at least inspired by, Snaff’s Workshop from the OST.
As for the ditty…
It’s been slightly edited, as far as I can tell, so it just says “good morning” three times, rather than the (I think) “Bonjour. Good morning. Guten morgen.”
I’ll look around some more to see if I can find the original.
Le edit: Nope, can’t seem to find a proper recording of the original. Might possibly do it myself if I find myself with an extra supply of time units, but don’t count on it.

I’m on top of the fort you’re trying to capture. Oh, what’s that red circle? Probably nothing. Now you’re choking on my gas grenades, and you can’t roll far enough to take you out of it because your body is numb with ice. Something flashes, you can’t see, where am I? I’m right behind you, setting you on fire. Finally you find yourself able to run away, what’s following you? A ball of napalm, that’s what. It explodes, it burns, it hurts so much. Then the hurting stops. You’re lying on the ground, gasping for breath. A wall of fire spreads on top of you. Do I keep up the assault? I do not. I’ve already dismissed you. What am I doing? I’m dodging through all of your friends, I chug a potion. I deploy a turret, where did it go? I destroyed it. Suddenly I’m back up to full health, and your friends shouldn’t have stood so close to the cliff. Some of them are smart enough to dodge through me when they see the bubble appear. Most aren’t. Half of your friends just went flying, what’s on my screen? Numbers, many numbers, high numbers. That’s the experience coming in. Your friends start falling back, what do I do? I pull out the rifle. One of the poor suckers get netted, I turn the rifle to the ground, and within the blink of a moment I descend upon him from above like a thirsty vampire. Before he can react he’s already taken a Blunderbuss at point blank. He turns to face me, where am I? I’m already gone with an overcharged shot. I get up, he gets up, supply drop goes down. Netted again. I leave the turrets to finish him off as I head to meet up with the commander.

I am Asura, these are Asura people. Look at all those Asuras.
Not quite… The first part of the sentence is a reference to the asura as a community, and as such would be asuran. If it were “I am an asura”, however, it would be correct, because then it does not reference the asuran people.
The middle part, again, references the asura as a people, making the term “asuran”.
The last part, I always cringe at. There’s no such word as “asuras”. The plural is the same as the singular – asura.
Finally, the capitalization is just as unnecessary as it is to capitalize “Humans”.
So the correct example would be:
I am asuran, these are asuran people. Look at all those asura.
Or:
I am an asura, these are asuran people. Look at all those asura.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand grammar is hard and normally I wouldn’t point it out, but since the subject already is the use of the word “asura” in all its forms, there it is.
Le edit: As an addendum, I should add there is some basis for the reasoning that “I am asura” is a valid statement. The question is whether or not “asura” in this case is used as a descriptive noun (in which case “asura” is correct) or as a reference to the person’s kinsmen (in which case “asuran” is correct"). Theoretically, in a situation where the interpretation could be either or, both would be correct. However, as the former use – the descriptive noun, making the correct word “asura” – should for grammatical correctness’ sake be preceded by the word “an”, I by default (and encourage everyone to) interpret the lack of “an” to mean the word is a reference.

I don’t see how anybody can say with any certainty that they are definatly shotgun or rifle.
Hint’s in the name. Sclerite Rifle Skin. Keyword: rifle.
If it was intended as a shotgun, it’d have one of the associated names: scattergun, shotgun, pepper gun, fowling piece. Additionally, while not unheard of, shotguns are not commonly that long, while rifles typically are. It also has a larger stock than a typical shotgun, meaning it’s intended to be fired from further away from the body. If it was a shotgun, that would cause undue stress and inaccuracy while firing, due to kickback and the distance from the shoulder.
I’m a bit of a gun nut.

To sum it up, it is a tangent that started when I proposed that the Sclerite Rifle is a rifle and not a shotgun, to which Dustfinger theorized ammunition in the game is cartridges of powder as opposed to metal slugs or pellets. In the same context he mentioned a charr coating her shots with a substance that would stick and burn on contact. From there my curiosity was piqued, and I theorized as to how realistic such an idea was (to which I eventually concluded it wasn’t realistic, but could fall within the suspension of disbelief already required for the game), and Dustfinger provided additional information on the burning substance. Then Seras asked if there was more to learn, and Dustfinger kindly provided a video to the episode in question. Then you asked what it was about, and that’s where we are now.

Actually, i think ANet is using physical interaction as a balancing element. Notice the rigidity of weapon skill positions, never mind that they rearranged a guardian set because it was too easy to just 1-2-3 your way down the row.
RSI should never be a tool for balance. You shouldn’t design a part of the game around the idea of causing what is considered an injury in medical terms to the players. I don’t normally criticize ANet, their staff, or how their game is designed… but if that is the case, someone is a sadistic kitten and should not be permitted to make decisions on anything that requires interaction from other humans.
Le edit: On a brighter note, I would actually be satisfied if someone at ANet just came out and said “hey guys, we realize RSI is a problem, and just wanted to let you know that until we find a better solution, you are permitted to make and use a macro that keeps using the grenade kit #1 skill while your chosen button is pressed.” That would be satisfactory. Not ideal, but good enough.

The “filter” is overly confusing and should definitively be cleaned up soonish. Some quick thoughts that have come to me over the past year:
- [[Crafting]] sounds like a development category, why is it still there so long after launch?
- “Trinket” category isn’t self-explanatory – why aren’t rings, accessories and amulets with the other non-weapon equipment?
- “Gizmo” is also very ambiguous – it’s a category for mechanical devices for which you’ve forgotten the actual name?
- “Gathering” – why isn’t this part of the “Tool” section? Moreover, why can you sell items that can be bought from just about any vendor where a Black Lion Trading representative can be found for peanuts?
- “Bag” – why isn’t this a subcategory to “Container”?

That’s… actually a really interesting wiki page.
At the bottom, it says “This NPC was added in the July 9, 2013 update and will stay indefinitely1”
“1^ Post by Paul Belz, Guild Wars 2 Forum”
Yet at the top, it reads “This page contains information about a Guild Wars 2 element, mechanic, or feature that has been removed or replaced. (November 02, 2015)
The information on this page does not apply to the current version of the game or the content is no longer available.”
Either they’ve moved him and the wiki isn’t updated yet, or they went back on their statement and removed the NPC despite what Paul Belz said (which seems the most likely, as the linked source for the Paul Belz quote is a deleted post).

Naturally I use the only viable elixir and the only viable weapon, with another only viable weapon for when I feel like switching things up. I also use the only viable traits, and occasionally I bring the only viable training manual for the only viable quick respec when I desire something fresh. I use the only viable weapon kit, and the only viable elite skill, and in my third utility slot (which is the only viable utility slot) I have the only viable gadget. I’ve also got a full set of the only viable stat allocation, of the only viable rarity of course.
If you do not use this build, you are clearly a scrublord who bought the account on the only viable eBay yesterday.

But how do people misunderstood the term unique if they hadn’t been exposed to a version that didn’t actually mean unique? Unique isn’t a SAT word. It’s dictionary definition is pretty clear. Yet people still buy multiple “unique” copies of a single item and think they can equip all.
The most common excuse was in GW unique was a type of quality like rare or exotic is in GW2.
Linguistically speaking, “unique” is also a rarity. Further, the definition of “unique” isn’t unilateral – while it can, and often does, mean “there’s only one of these in the entire world” or equivalent, most people come across it in daily interaction as “this would be difficult to find elsewhere”. Used in a sentence, “Luke sure is a unique character”, or “that’s a pretty unique look”, or “your smile is unique”, or “this game has a unique skill system”, or “there are eight unique classes”. This is a paraphrase, and doesn’t actually mean it’s statistically impossible to find it anywhere else, just that it’s difficult – in other words, a reference to rarity, not impossibility.
Further, the single word “unique” doesn’t necessarily have to mean anything in particular to a player. They might not notice it says that (though I admit it’d usually be noticed as it’s in a different text color), or they might think it’s flavor text because it’s so hard to acquire, or otherwise dismiss it for a million other reasons. I’m sure we’ve all heard the phrase “a picture says more than a thousand words” – if this is true, one word says less than a thousandth of a picture, and is not nearly enough to guide a consumer towards the right purchase.
As a closing statement, I just pretended not to know anything about playing MMOs and high-end gearing, and took to Google in search of what “unique” could mean in general, using terms like “mmo unique”, “mmo unique item”, “game unique item” and so on. The results? I found one article explaining it, if I searched for “gw2 unique”, on the official wiki. All other searches yielded no relevant results (some mentions of unique items from Path of Exile, but no explanation as to what that entailed). So if you want to find out exactly what “unique” means in games in general, that’s pretty impossible; specifically for GW2, the answer is out there, but if the player has to actively search the answer out from external sources, it’s obviously not clear enough in-game.

So I have a Razer Blackwidow, it comes with 5 macro keys on the side. This means i can record songs once, and just use that button to play them in the future. Is this against the rules? My guildies have been warning me, and I don’t want to get in trouble. Does anyone know if this is allowed? I love the idea of having a Lord of the Rings button…especially since I paid 10 dollars for this virtual horn. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me the official stance on this.
There have been threads asking the same thing, and from what I’ve seen it’s a bit of a grey area until we can get an anet response on it. The policy is generally one press one key activation, but there’s mention that that is so you don’t gain an unfair advantage over other players, which in this case you wouldn’t.
And I can’t imagine we’ll ever get an answer to it. Like it or not, the gray area is some manner of protection for ANet. As long as they don’t specify the exact rules, they have some leeway in deciding what’s acceptable and what’s an offense. But as soon as they come out and confirm, black on white, exactly what’s permitted and what’s not… people will have boundaries they know, and like children, they will begin testing them. At that point one of two things will occur: either ANet gives in and the game suffers for it, or ANet stands their ground and shifts a lot of their time and effort to managing the wave of suspensions or outright bans, giving them less time to focus on actual gameplay improvements and content. Either way, everyone loses.
But those dark thoughts aside…
I acquired the horn yesterday, and I’m overall happy with it. Tried a couple of the songs here, but to make some of them sound genuine (ginge-you-whine) you really need to have a macro or somesuch to insert a quick ESC if you’re going to repeat the same note twice in a row. It’s doable without it, but worth pointing out.
Also worth pointing out, slower songs (with longer notes) are much easier to play than short, staccato-noted pieces (such as The Final Countdown that I saw was requested). Just something to keep in mind when making requests or trying to make your own song – it’s not impossible, it’s just harder.
Once the midsummer celebrations are over, I’ll see about making some Irish-themed notes with specific time measurements. Not that I’m suggesting that you should use a macro (or that I use one myself; oh no, not me, perfectly macro-free over here!), but if you just so happen to have both an internal chronometer and the reflexes to carry out the instructions on a 0.01 second accuracy, I shalln’t hold you back!
Musical pieces currently being contemplated to include:
- A Jug of Punch
- Scarborough Faire
- Wild Mountain Thyme
- Whiskey in the Jar
- Wild Rover
- Bog Down in the Valley
- Rosin the Beau

Second reply is as follows:
Hello <redacted>,
Thanks for contacting Guild Wars 2 Technical Support.
We’d like to gather some more information about the problems you’re experiencing by having you run a program called Game Advisor on your computer. This application provides us with helpful information about your system and Internet connection.
If you’re using a router, hub, or switch, please disconnect it and connect directly to your modem before running this utility. You may have to reboot your modem and/or computer to reestablish your Internet connection. If this isn’t possible due to your network setup, please run Game Advisor with the router connected as the information will still be useful.
To run Game Advisor, please perform the following steps:
Download Game Advisor here: http://us.ncsoft.com/gameadvisor
When prompted, save the file to your Windows “Desktop” so you can access it easily. Please save the file before running it (running it from the website can cause file issues).
Double-click on the Game Advisor file and then click on the icon for the game you are having trouble with.
Click “Test Computer and Connection” and wait a few minutes while the test completes.
Once the test completes, a “Test Result” window will come up showing the location of the test result file. Please attach this file to a reply to this e-mail.
Once we receive the test results, we’ll have a better idea of how to resolve your issue.
Regards,

Well, first of all, let’s get the off-topic out of the way.
If you get “nervous and dizzy” when you see crowds, two things come to mind (mind you, I’m no psychologist so I can’t say if either are applicable to you, or if there are other causes). If it’s just being around large masses of people, it may be due to agoraphobia – a fear of packed public places, or just public places in general. There are treatments for this, through gradual exposure and in severe cases antidepressive medicine. If you think you’re suffering from this, mention it to a doctor/psychologist and they’ll help you with the correct procedure.
On the other hand, if it’s strictly the act (or thought) of socializing with people you don’t know well, it may be a simple case of you being an introvert. This is a personality trait rather than a diagnose, so if you are, don’t worry about it. I’m an introvert myself, and I can’t say I’ve ever suffered from it. Introverts usually prefer to be alone rather than in groups, they usually have very few friends but really good ones, and usually require less daily social interaction than their counterparts, the extroverts. Extroverts are pretty much the complete opposite – they’re group people, with large friend circles, and could often spend the entire day on the phone or just hanging out if possible.
Of course, like I said, there’s absolutely no guarantee that either of these apply to you. It’s just the two that come to mind given what you said.
In regards to your question about soloing, it’s not too hard. It depends entirely upon what you like to do. If you like crafting, you can get experience by doing that. The same with gathering. If exploring is your thing, completing maps is a very efficient way to level. If you like the competitive stuff, try WvW – that also gives you experience. In short, if there’s anything you like doing in GW2, it’ll get you closer to level 80. Why not mix and match? If you get bored of exploring, do some crafting, and then hop into WvW for a while. My personal leveling method is map completion (doing any events I come across along the way), with Personal Story interspersed to keep it from getting too dull.
Finally, feel free to add me as a friend. While I’m not playing that much right now, and prone to rather long hiatuses (hiatusi? Sounds Japanese), I never turn down a friendly chat, and it really does help make the leveling process that much quicker.

Try binding the utility slot keys to something more accessible than 7-9. Personally I have a Logitech G600, so I have it bound to G-shift (modifier on the mouse) + 1-3 on the side buttons, with 4 being the elite, and 1-5 without the G-shift being the default skill selection. If you don’t have an MMO mouse, I’m sure you can find buttons on the keyboard to use – Q, E, R, F are ideal for often-used abilities, T and G work fine as well. Z through B can work depending on how you feel about it, personally I think it’s too far down from the movement keys.
Once your keys are rebound, the keyword is practice, practice, practice! You’ll want to learn how to do this autonomously, so change your weapon kits as often as you can, even if it seems unnecessary. It’ll feel awkward to begin with, but as with any repetitive-in-context action, it’ll soon because autonomous (this is how you learn, say, shifting gears while driving or even walking).
Once you’ve got the weapon kit switching mastered, afford yourself to live a little. Respecs in this game are dirt cheap – I think it’s about five silver at level 80, which is about equivalent to 6-8 grey trash (break to avoid censor) items. You know how to play with weapon kits, so feel free to play with turrets instead. What’s great about the engineer is that despite what people may want to tell you, very few builds aren’t viable if played correctly. Besides, if you want to be certain you’re ready to fit a more effective build in while still running around with your fun-build, just carry a 10-silver training manual on you at all times to instantly respec all your traits.

They just had the most appeal to me. The way I see it (and this is my highly personal opinion, so no need to bash me for it), humans are very generic, norn are just cheaply made vikings, sylvari has little to carry them beyond the “I’m so curious and cute” schtick, and charr are just warmongerers whose speech literally gives me headaches in too large doses. That left the asura, who in my opinion pull off the snarky better-than-you routine better than any other game (lore) community so far. They know they’re better than you, they have diagrams to show it, and they won’t hesitate to rub it in your face – and their entire culture is built around this. That’s one of the many, many things I’ve come to love about the asura.
Currently, I have one sylvari, two humans, and five asura.
If you are allergic to these ingredients, do not consume.
Depends on how you look at it, really.
Let’s start by dissecting the term “technologically advanced”. “Technologically” of course referring to the subject of the term being of a technological nature, which we can further extrapolate into “technology” as the practical application of knowledge. “Advanced”, which in this term means highly developed or complex. From this we can deduce that “technologically advanced” means “applying complex knowledge”.
Take particular care to note that the key word is “knowledge”, not “science”. Many would discharge asura magitech, waypoints and golems as not being technology because it has magic involved in its construction or use. However, as we’ve deduced, technology is application of knowledge, and magic is also a form of knowledge.
Now, to answer the question, first generally, then specifically. Asura use technology much more widespread than the charr. They use it for construction, transportation, recreation, relaxation… the list goes on and on. Charr, on the other hand, use very limited technology in their day-to-day lives. Furthermore, even discarding the asura buzzwords like “electromatic deharmonizer” and “asynchronous tectonic stabilizers”, asura application of knowledge is much more complex than charr comparisons. While charr have adapted a combustion-, steam-, and coal-powered technology, asura power theirs with things like electricity, magic, tectonics, and even fusion (the Megahedron Collider used in the asura personal storyline being an obvious reference to the Hadron Collider), which no one can argue is a more complex solution than that of the charr. As a result, we can safely say that overall, asura are more technologically advanced than charr, or any other race for that matter.
Now, if talking about warfare specifically, the charr fare better but still fall short. I would say that in large-scale warfare, asura still have the upper hand due to things like the asuran megalaser showcased in the Tequila (read: Tequatl) fight. Nothing the charr have produced come even close to the complexity of that device. Even on the smaller scale, comparing the complexity of a combustion-powered charr tank versus a magic-powered asura golem firing lasers out of its fist, I’m inclined to say the golem is the more complex of the two.
Thus, my ending statement is this: regardless of which field we compare the two races in, asura are always more complex in their application of knowledge. As such, asura are always more technologically advanced than charr.
Hope this helps solve your conundrum.

Two separate error codes. Most likely related or even the same issue, as the symptoms are identical – about 10 minutes of loading followed by the error code. Three characters fine, in Lornar’s Pass, Diessa Plateau and Rata Sum respectively.
This is written before trying to fix the issue on my end. I will attempt to do so now.
Edit 1: Flushing DNS or restarting the router was a no go, however using a VPN as described by others did work to get back on the maps that wouldn’t load. Just to double check, closing down the VPN after successfully logging in caused the same error code on the same character on the same map. However, enabling the VPN once more and moving the character to one of the maps one of my characters worked on (Rata Sum), followed by disabling the VPN and logging in on my usual connection worked just fine. Looks like this’ll be the most efficient workaround until the issue is resolved.
The VPN I used can be found here: https://openvpn.net/
I could post a referral link, but I don’t feel right profiteering from other people’s suffering (doubly so since I only use the service because I suffer in the same way), so I won’t.

Expecting the launcher to limit the download speed is just ludicrous…..sorry to be so blunt.
Please tell me how the in the hell technically it’s an unreasonable request to have bandwidth-limiting, even if the GW2 launcher is P2P-based. What kittening planet do you live on?
Urf. Welcome to it. Now where’s my cigar…
But yes, Grimm has a very good point. I cannot think of a single launcher / patcher that has limited bandwidth. It’s just the kind of thing no one ever asks for. “Excuse me, sirs, but I would like to download your game slower, is that possible please? I’d like to have to leave my computer on all night. I’d like to make a feature-film trilogy of my progress bar going up, is that possible please? IT’S GOING TOO FAST!”

The 12% are saved, you just have 0% downloaded of the remaining 88%. For some reason the percentage is always for the current session, not for the total download for all sessions.

Hello <redacted>,
Thanks very much for letting us know about the issue that you noted in Guild Wars 2. The next time that you’re in the game and you find a bug, you can do us a favor by submitting an in-game bug report. This will send detailed information about your character and your position directly to our Quality Assurance Team and will help us kitten the issue as promptly as possible. To submit a bug report in the game, simply click on the “Game Menu” button in the upper left-hand corner of the game interface, then choose the “Support” option on the Game Menu. That option will allow you to review known issues, report a bug, or contact Customer Support.
You’re also welcome to report a game issue in the Bugs sub-forum of the Guild Wars 2 Forums (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs). You may include screenshots with your forum report, if you wish to do so. While we are unable to respond directly to each bug report that we receive on the forums or through the game interface, each report is reviewed and escalated, when appropriate.
Thank you again for taking the time to let us know about this issue.

So, in other words, just another “let’s paste the standard response without reading the ticket, and with luck they won’t reply so that I can just mark it as solved without any effort on my part” solution by customer support. Yeah, I’ve worked it myself once. That’s how it goes. No hard feelings towards the GM, it’s just standard procedure.
Will keep this thread updated with the second reply, lest they choose to ignore the ticket entirely, which sadly also is standard procedure from time to time.

I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I joined up.
Not regretted it once. Great group of people, both inside and outside of the game.
If you’re looking for a friendly bunch to have fun with, you’ll really be hard pressed to find a better guild.

If you just want to AOE loot above all else and not worry about other things then there is a new separate keybind just for that. Bind it to Shift+F and it will only AOE loot and do nothing else. Now you will have F for normal interactions and single looting and Shift+F for only AOE looting.
Again, missing the point. It’s not about “AHMAGERD I have to spend another two seconds looting?!”, nor is it about “another keybind? Worst game ever, -2/10”, nor is it about “I bought this game, that means you have to make changes I request! /unsub”.
It’s about it not making any kitten sense. There is absolutely no logical reason to why the game cannot prioritize AoE looting BEFORE single-target looting, yet AFTER all the bogstandard interactions that already take precedence over looting.
Yes, it gets the job done. But it doesn’t do it in the most intelligent and smooth way possible. Think of it this way, it’s like two possible answers to the question “what is 5 times 10?” The first answer is “take the number 5, add a zero to the end, and you get 50”. The second answer is “double five and you get ten, that’s one tenth of a hundred so ten times ten has to be a hundred, then since you doubled it to begin with you’ll have to split the number, so half of a hundred is fifty”. Both of these calculations are correct, but one is obviously unneccesarily convoluted and unintuitive.
And that’s the issue here. Not that the function is present, not that it works the way it does mechanically, but the way it is triggered is unnecessarily convoluted and unintuitive. There is no logical reason for it to NOT be triggered regardless of whether or not you’re standing within range of a single loot bag. If there is a logical reason, please divine it upon me, for I cannot see it.

Like people before me have said, it’s a personal preference more than anything. Here’s what I’ve done:
First, I have an MMO mouse (one with buttons on the side), specifically the Logitech G600. This is NOT NECESSARY, but it’s a purchase I am happy with. Not trying to sell it, just saying what my setup is like.
The first five thumb buttons (G9 through G13 if you look at this picture) trigger my weapon skills (default 1-5 on the keyboard). Further, on the other side of the mouse is a large section you can press down, kind of like an extra mouse button (you can see the indenture for it here, to the right of the right mouse button). This acts pretty much the same way as holding CTRL or Shift would on your keyboard, and by holding down this section and pressing the first four buttons on the thumb side (again G9 through G12), I can activate my utility and elite skills (default 7-0 on the keyboard). In this way, I can activate just about any of my skills from my mouse, without changing my grip in the slightest.
For the keyboard, to start with, I’ve completely unbound “turn left” and “turn right” – I turn exlusively via holding the right mouse button (occasionally plus left mouse button, if I want to run without holding W). I’ve also moved the strafe keys down one, so that my movement keys are W/S for move forward/backward, and A/D for strafe left/right.
Now there are really only three main functions I haven’t mentioned yet – profession-specific skills, dodging and healing. Profession skills (like Steal for the thief, pet controls for the ranger, or the toolbelt for the engineer) are accessible with 1-4 on the keyboard, easily within reach of my left hand. Q is my healing skill button. And finally, I’ve got dodge/evade on my E key. I can also dodge with middle mouse button should I need it.
And that’s my setup. It bears repeating, hotkeys are very personal and it’s up to you what you feel is efficient and, most importantly, comfortable.

Since my last message, I’ve been given a handful of suggestions from customer support. Unfortunately none of them have managed to solve it for me, but maybe it’ll help one of you.
#4:
[spoiler]Hello <redacted>,
A possible cause for this is that the game has not downloaded the cutscene. If this were to be the case I’d like to ask if your download did not finish but was already past the “Playable” mark. If so, would you kindly try waiting for the game to complete the download and try again afterwards?
Let us know if you need further assistance.

[spoiler]Hello <redacted>,
Thanks for the update.
Can you please try the following and let us know if this fixes your issue also:
Completely close the game
Go to temp folder by going to start/run, type in temp and hit enter
Browse to the folder gw2cache-(guid). Example: “gw2cache-(50641E0B-3AD4-1601-081E-6450D43A0116)” 4.. Delete the whole gw2cache folder
Restart the game and see if this resolved your issue with the cut-scenes.
We look forward to your reply.

[spoiler]Hello <redacted>,
Thanks for getting back to us.
ICan you please try the following for me?
Start the Guild Wars 2 launcher.
Uncheck “Remember Account Name.”
Uncheck “Remember Password.”
Close the launcher.
Navigate to the location "C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2
Locate and delete the file local.dat from this folder.
Start the launcher again and attempt to log in to the game.
If that fails, could you try placing the game in different resolutions and screen modes? For instance if you’re in Windowed Fullscreen, try placing that option in Full Screen instead and try again if the cutscenes appear.
Let us know how it goes.

I roll with everything. But if my alt levels and time played are anything to go by, I enjoy my warrior most (after my engineer of course), followed by my mesmer, then ranger, necromancer, thief, elementalist, and finally guardian.

That is true.
However, now consider if the ant and the human were both moving six feet in the same amount of time at all times. The ant would still feel like it’s going to get places faster than the human because it’s simply blitzing along the ground while strands of grass hurl themselves by at terrifying speeds – but it does not in any way change the truth that the ant isn’t faster than the human.
Just a reminder (for those who didn’t have as stubborn a physicist teacher as I did): speed is not relative to size. The definition of speed is distance travelled per unit time. The calculation is v = d / t, where v is the velocity or speed, d is the distance covered, and t is the time units in the measurement. None of these three factors take into consideration the subject’s height or otherwise relative size or mass. Thus we can conclude that size, height and mass have no effect on speed measurement. And from that, we can derive that the feeling of asura moving faster than norn or charr is an effect induced only in the mind, as under no circumstances will an asura move faster (as per the definition above) than a norn or charr in the same condition.

The barrel lenght and stock sizes do match that of scatterguns, I’ll admit. Blunderbusses… the ol’ thunderpipes… I guess you could consider it an early prototype of a shotgun, it’s a common discussion among gun addicts. I’ll admit I rarely consider it as it was such a niche use in the before-times, and had very little effect on how firearms are used today. But I will say blunderbusses were mostly handguns, with only a few rifle-stock models. If I were to use my imagination, and discount sound and graphics, I’d say the Twinspur and Norn rifles may be some odd marriage between a rifle and a grossly exaggerated blunderbuss or rifle muzzle.
Le edit: Love the discussion, by the way. It’s rare I get to talk guns outside gun forums.
Le edit secundus: Coffee time, hate to love you and leave you, but them’s the rules. I’ll check back in in the afternoon.

Actually, SOLVED.
Go to your bindings, and make sure you set the PRIMARY key for dodge to be the key you want. The SECONDARY key is the one that causes this issue.

Personally, I don’t understand the reasoning behind putting single-target loot as a higher priority than multi-target loot. After all, if the user has checked the by-default unchecked checkbox to allow AoE looting, they’re probably interested in looting all surrounding bodies with one click. Thus they shouldn’t complain if that’s exactly what happens. Conversely, if people (for some reason) do not want it, they leave the checkbox unchecked, and AoE looting will never occur unless they specifically bind it.
So, what’s the issue with the priority being Harvest > Talk = Investigate = Revive = FINISH THEM!! > AoE loot if ticked > Search?
Don’t get me wrong, I love the function, but you know what would make me love it more? Not having to run away from the battlefield in order to collect my spoils.

So to keep you appraised of what Customer Support are telling me, here’s #3:
Dear <redacted>,
I sincerely apologize that the previous agent did not see your attached results. These pesky Quaggans running around the office can be distracting at times
So I took a look at the Game Advisor, and first of all I’d like to say I’m a little jealous! Not only do you have a great setup but it looks like you have all your drivers up-to-date and do not have any software installed that is known to conflict with GW2 running normally. When I took a look at the network section I did see something I want to look into further. I hate to have to ask you to run another test, but this is specifically network related as opposed to being mostly hardware/software with only some connectivity information. I know you hate copy/pasted responses, but you’ll have to forgive me as I don’t have this next part memorized. Please follow the directions below and I will keep an eye out for your reply.
How to get WinMTR:
1. Download WinMTR here. A .zip file will download automatically a few seconds after the page loads.
2. Open the .zip file.
3. Select “Extract all files” and make sure “Show extracted files when complete” is selected.
4. Click “Extract.” A new window should open.
5. Double-click the folder “winmtr_bin_0.8” in the new window.
6. Double-click “WinMTR.exe” to run the program.
Once WinMTR is running:
1. Log in to Guild Wars 2
2. In the chat window type “/ip” without the quotes and press enter. This will return an IP address followed by a colon and a number (for example, “192.158.1.1:0”).
3. Copy the IP address but omit the colon and everything after.
4. Paste or type the IP address into the “Host” field in WinMTR.
5. Click Start.
6. Let WinMTR run while you play Guild Wars 2 for about 30 minutes.
7. After about 30 minutes have passed, click the “Export HTML” button in WinMTR and save the file to your desktop.
8. Attach the “.htm” file to a reply to this e-mail (note: make sure you’re attaching the actual file and not copying the file location from your browser).
Thanks for your cooperation and again, our apologies for the mix up on our end.

A much better response this time around, and I have hope again. Sent them the log, so awaiting further instructions for now.
Also, kingbread, I’ve had varying degrees of success with pre-HoT pre-rendered cutscenes. Yesterday I ran Victory Or Death with friends who hadn’t done it yet, and I could see all the cutscenes there. However, I still get a black screen with dialogue and subtitles when using Marjory’s Journal in Lion’s Arch, which is a pre-HoT cutscene. I theorize that somehow the areas that are either new or updated with the HoT + Halloween update somehow interfere with my (and yours) cutscenes – but I was unable to confirm it since using Marjory’s Journal in another map than Lion’s Arch only results in a “You cannot perform that command yet” message and no cutscene. Passed my theory on to Customer Support, we’ll see what they make of it.
