Newbie Engi, looking for some advice

Been getting into raiding and everywhere I go I am told Engi is trash in raids. Pretty good in PvP/WvW and lesser PvE though.

Why is it trash in raids? People are very quick to dismiss certain classes as trash or OP in various situations but rarely give a specific reason why this is.

They’re considered this because what they bring to the table isn’t as effective as another class. Need constant boons? Engi’s can give this, but nothing a Revenant, Warrior, or pretty much any class but Mesmer and Necro can offer, plus more. They’re not bad as a class, and if you’re running raids with guildies, I’m sure they won’t be completely off by it, but Engineers just aren’t that amazing for raids.

Healing Signet over Shelter is a thing, but it’s usually when you know for a fact that the entire team you’re facing is condi. Traited, the CD is 32 seconds, which is only 2 seconds longer than Shelter. You get a heal “twice” as much as shelter, the passive condi removal, but you lose valuable blocks (mitigation), and if traited, might stacks. It’s not a bad choice, but “less optimal” than what you’d normally run. Using your dodges enough, you don’t need a heal that big that often.

I have literally no idea what ToC is over RF. There’s niche uses for it, like group support, the 100% stat boost to Vitality and toughness (I think toughness), and the heals. The issue with this is that the cooldown is stupid long, the duration, unless traited, is stupid short, 4/5 of the skills are basically useless, and it’s just… “sub optimal.” Again, if there were more dodges used, health, theoretically, won’t be needed as much, which negates the usefulness of the 1 skill on ToC that’s worth it.

I have no idea. Some people don’t use it much, more of a “L2P” thing, in the least rudest manner I can say that in. Could be lag.

Retreat is usually for mobility, but also useful for Aegis (block), and, in turn, 20% more damage from unscathed contender. It has it’s places.

On the off chance this guy is actually serious, you have a lot to learn about Guardians, but more about your own class if 4 of you couldn’t take down 1 MediGuard.

People see taunt and instantly think of the traditional aggro grabbing tool. I honestly don’t think it’s going to work that way. It probably won’t be spammable, and, while less likely, it probably won’t reset or increase that user’s aggro afterwards.

What i mean is, most games will make taunt increase the taunter’s threat towards a monster, either matching it with whoever’s threat is highest, or automatically making their own threat the highest. B’s threat meter on a boss is 95%, A taunts boss, A’s threat jumps to 96%, and stays there. I don’t think it’ll be this way. I think A will taunt boss, but the threat meters will go back to whatever they were before.

Come on after all the underhanded stuff they’ve done (bought guilds, used hackers, 2v1’ed YB for weeks on end ect ect) it’s about time karma caught up with them.

You’re going to get 2v1’d by DB and SoS this week. No one wants YB in t2. Also, you guys are going to implode soon. SG almost for sure going to leave, and if you guys become locked in t3 you’re going to lose FUN, IX, and NS.

Oh, we’ve been known that. I’m confused as to why ppl hate YB so much, though. As far as the imploding, it may or may not happen. It’s less likely as of 2 days ago, though. This’ll be the second week we get 2v1’d, which, for my guild, is completely fine with it, just means more fights lol

Who is the best guardian?

in Guardian

Kaizz.7306

I think it would be more server and guild based. I don’t think there is a “best”, but more of who is more known for their Guardian play. I know amongst my guild [ALL], I am regarded as one of the top Guardians, in Yaks Bend, one of the most famous Guardians in my other guild [YUM] is Famme (the guy who made divinitysreach.com). When it comes to SPvP, though, my friend Laegacy is sooooo much better than I ever have been at playing offensive DPS Guard, but I can bunker against 3-4 ppl, unless they’re a bunch of necros or engis, then I have problems. There’s those that are known for WvW roaming, like Raylze from [BLNT], he’s pretty decent from what I’ve seen. I think another friend of my Xasten Holyseeker has one of the highest WvW ranks BEFORE the 4/15 patch (I do believe he was over the 1K rank). Or Saeryn Azrael, who came up with a lot of the Guardian builds our guild uses for raiding. To many variables to narrow it down, and “best” is relative.

So, I’ve been seeing a lot of these lately, and I’m not so much frustrated, I mean, it’s a good troll build, something engi’s are good at. What I want to know is what’s best to counter them? I play my Bunker Guard, so I’m not expecting to kill anything, and I have no problems surviving it, but even with all the stability, and the might i give my team, it still takes 2-3 of us to kill one engi.

Guardian Clerics question

in Guardian

Posted by: Kaizz.7306

Kaizz.7306

Wait, Guardians can be kicked from dungeon runs? Huh… musta missed that nerf…

But seriously, Clerics, in general… is not that awesome, unless you’re using the Healway build. I have a Clerics set just for that build, but I never use it because, while I can survive, I lack to much damage sometimes. It’s not a bad armor set, but just like everything else in the game, especially with the Guardian, it’s situational. I have a Knights set for roaming, Soldier’s set for WvW Guild Raiding, Zerker Set for Dungeons and Fractals, Clerics for that one build I never use but put Phalanx Armor skin over so I’m dam sure not getting rid of it, and a Sentinel’s Set…. which is my holy kitten this fractals is really really hard, lemme swap some pieces. I haven’t used my Sentinel’s set in a few weeks….

If you’re getting booted, though, as a Guardian, unless you have, like, <2K AP (I know, it’s dumb, but I’m seeing it more often of ppl being kicked based on AP), I am left to wonder if you were kicked for dying so much. I’m still getting used to runing 100% Zerker gear, and so I’ve been doing fractals and dungeons with it on, only dying once or twice the whole run. I still don’t get kicked from groups. If you start dropping 5+ times on one boss however….

greatsword (a terrible weapon for pvp)

in Guardian

Posted by: Kaizz.7306

Kaizz.7306

Dude, the greatsword is awesome. I’d say you don’t know how to properly use the GS, but then again, it could very well just be your playstyle to not like it. I didn’t start using a GS until I was level 30, running around Fields of Ruin, and was like dam… Mace Shield is so slow, I wonder if a hammer or greatsword would be better. 3 days later, the game launches, and I’m sitting at 80, realizing that the GS is the DPS mobility machine. No, you can’t 100% stick to ppl with the GS, you won’t be able to if you’re just tossing everything out, swinging like a mad man. The 5 is the best thing since sliced bread. It is my Dot, It is my ranged finisher, it is my stealth detection, it is my interrupt, my gap closer, my love. the DoT is weaker than a baby quaggan. But it’s Damage, and at 4-500 a tick, it’s a mini condition imo. Use it on a D/P thief that just went stealth. The blade will follow the person, even while they’re stealthed, if they’re in range. It’s also really good for stopping thieves from HS’ing out of their Black Powder, and I’ve gotten kills purely because of that.

You crafted an ascended weapon, ok, cool, but do you really understand how to use it? Are you mid range pressing 2, hoping that you’ll get more than 2 hits in on an enemy, instead of the 9 hits you get from actually being in the hitbox? Making use of the instant OP Retaliation symbol? Trust me, the Greatsword is a burst mobility weapon, but you can use it for sustained damage as well. Like, it gives a freaking blind when you start a fight, on top of your Aegis….

Why do wvw guilds hate rangers?

in WvW

Posted by: Kaizz.7306

Kaizz.7306

The adventurer classes in general are great for small groups (Engis, Thieves, Rangers), but once you get into the bigger groups, they lose a LOT of effectiveness. Rangers have entangle, cool, one skill. Waterfields, nice. Or, we can have Warriors with Flurry on a shorter CD, and more useful overall. Eles with staves more useful overall. It’s just about preference, although I’d love to see them as perimeter players in our gvg and open world fights, I don’t see it happening to soon.

Stealth Spammers

Kaizz.7306

Yeah, no offense, but you’re playing a Zerker Ranger in WvW, and it sounds like you’re running solo. I get you just got introduced to wvw, but I’m telling you right now, GLHF. There are 4 top classes for roaming in WvW right now. 1. Thieves, 2. Mesmers, 3. Warriors, 4. Engineers. Eles and Guardians are in there as well, but you won’t see them as often as you see these classes. Thieves and Mesmers are especially abundant and annoying. Thy can use stealth to drop targets, set up insane damage, negate damage, confuse, and annoy you. Engineers almost always run super condi bombs. Area denial with conditions that hit hard, pretty annoying to deal with. Warriors…. yeah that condi tank build needs to go, it’s literally everywhere. With GS+Bulls Rush, it’s like “Why chase, you’ll never catch them”.

Back to the stealth “issue”, I don’t see it as a problem anymore. D/P thieves are drastically easy to kill once you know how they play. Me? I use my Guardian pretty much 100% of my gaming time. Grab a greatsword, notive the thief goes into stealth, press 5, follow the trail. See the Black Powder come out, I pull, most of the time stopping the stealth abuse. I hit hard enough that the thief needs to reset the fight, which is fine by me, I have 18K health, maximum backstabs I’ve seen are 4-5K on me. P/D gets annoying, but I just pop condis on them, sword 3 helps, focus abilities, constant pressure, forcing them to waste initiative and cd’s wile shrugging off the condis. It’s cheesy, but P/D is really effective.

As a ranger, I advise, in all seriousness, rerolling if you want to go solo. If not, get a nice group of 5.together, ecause, tbh, nobody really solo roams wvw anymore.

Are warriors better?

Kaizz.7306

Even though I “officially” have 1200 hours on my Guardian since pre-release, and 2200+ hours total across all toons, I count a lot of those hours on my Guardian still. I say this because I’ve tried to learn how other classes and builds play, how to deal with Guardians so I can get better myself, and in general. My warrior is ~600 hours I’d say. Really fun to level, very VERY boring to me. There’s so much forgiveness it’s mind numbing. Warriors are NOT bad, not in the slightest. Their playstyles, base stats, and traits make them amazingly versatile, and it feels like almost every build, even a 30/30/10/0/0 build is tanky as hell. So why do I love my Guardian more, and find it so exciting vs my warrior?
1. My Guardian is Asura. Master Race for the Master Class.
2. Guardians thematic colors are blue. My favorite color is blue. Win.
3. Guardians use heavy armor, a kitten tone of blocks and heals, and kitten ton more of heals, and then a few thousand other blocks.
4. Unless you’re going ham in PvE, most likely, you won’t be in a 100% zerker setup. So the challenge is to do damage while playing in trait lines that focus on the bottom 3 trait lines (Honor, Valor, Virtues).
5. Combine magic with a soldier, and you get some dam cool spells and effects. Consecrations, Meditations, the Staff….
6. Guardians get a staff.
7. Guardians staff is amazing.
8. Guardian staff is the best staff in the game, IDC what anyone says, try tossing on 100% zerker gear with a zerker staff, run around spamming 1 on everything LOOOOOL
9. Guardians aren’t as clunky as warriors. You actually need to think really hard before running into mobs, you don’t get 25K+ HP to toss around. In Sentinels Wet Noodle Armor, I have 21K health on my Guard. My damage in this gear is next to nothing, hitting 1K normals and 2.5K crits lol. I don’t die, but I don’t kill either.
10. Guardians aren’t always about the slow killing. I play bunker in spvp. It’s something you have to think about. The constant thief dazes, fighting those condi tank warriors with healing signet, Necros, really good, actually played their mesmer Mesmers… These things cause problems on my bunker. Switch to triple Meditation GS/Sw/Fc and all of a sudden, nothing seems to matter. You can’t hold a point, but you won’t die either lol.
11. Guardians kitten rule. The best players are Guardians. (dunno, but I consider myself pretty kitten good, so there you go.)
12. Did I mention the Guardians staff? I did? Ok, just making sure you know about all the boons and stuff Guardians deal with that are game changing. The might stacks, man, them empowered might stacks.

Jokes aside, the Warrior and Guardian are just classes you gotta try for yourself. I promise you this, if you roll either, you will ALWAYS have a dungeon party, you will ALWAYS be loved (unless you really are terribad), WvW groups will love you, zergs will love you, Fractal groups will love you, tpvp pugs will love you, the soldiers rule. Just don’t be a baddie.

The idea behind a Legendary weapon is that it is supposed to be somewhat completionist. With the introduction of achievement chests, 500 badges of honor is easy to get without getting into WvW, and WvW is a big part of the game.

It’s supposed to be a ‘show-off’ that you’ve played most of the core content, and played long enough to be ‘worthy’ of a Legendary.

Pretty much this. I’ve had my Sunrise for a few weeks now, but I had my gift of mastery back before the first halloween event. I’m glad that there’s a bit more that’s required to get a legendary now. People were complaining that a legendary is just a giant money fest, doesn’t take much but just getting lucky. Now there’s a bit more involved. Rank 30 is honestly not hard at all, even if you don’t like WvW. It’d probably take you a week or two of spending an hour a day in a karma train to get it, probably sooner depending on the server.

Rangers with pets are bad for lane 2’s boss, there is no exception. Elementalists with an elemental also bad for this lane; but still elementalists > rangers ^^

Nah, it’s just that Rangers forget to keep their pets close to them, swap to a ranged pet, put the pet on passive, ETC. I’ve seen plenty of rangers that do well in pretty much everything because of pet control.

Leap Skills Should require a target

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Kaizz.7306

Kaizz.7306

yes make them require target then they will be completly useless!

9/10 times rush/bullsrush other gap closers will bug if target moves a little. So doing this will make mobility skills insta death button.

If you gap close at someone, you’re still closing the gap even if the damage doesn’t land. I’d rather have Warrior GS 5 hardly hit me but still close the gap with me, instead of the warrior using it to escape from a fight all the time.

So you’re made because you went into WvW, expected someone to just go headbutt themselves against whatever weapons you’re using… and not want to die? I don’t get it. If you’re talking in regards to WvW, then I would suggest you go play in SPvP for awhile, learn how to react, and not let warriors use their escapes. I know it’s hard, no sarcasm, it really is hard. Warriors can escape from literally anything that can kill them, which is hard enough with HS, but still, there’s always counters. If I was fighting a warrior, dam sure my thief can catch and kill him.

[PvE] Revising the "DPS Meta"

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Kaizz.7306

Kaizz.7306

There has to be some kind of trinity for DPS to not be the meta. I hate to say it, and maybe I’m alone, but toss 5 zerker warriors, mesmers, guardians, thieves (well, idk, gotta be competent thieves) or rangers into a dungeon, and I’m pretty sure… no, i’m 100% sure the first 3 I named can run anything smoothly. See a certain P1 of a certain dungeon. Right now, there is 0 need for healing and crap in pve. In WvW and SPvP, this is 100% different, you HAVE to have balance and be organized to win. PvE land is like… oh ok… so no point in defending, let’s just kill this boss that has easily avoidable mechanics asap.

TBH…. maybe having invulnerable frames when you dodge in PvE needs to go. Lol like seriously, maybe you should force people to be a bit defensive. Zerkers rely on dodge, heals, and quickly killing something.

Serious Questions for Dev about warriors.

in Warrior

Posted by: Kaizz.7306

Kaizz.7306

Dude, Warriors are, like, ANet’s favorite poster child since Guild Wars 1. Whatever they’re nerfing, it isn’t going to be anything gamebreaking. They WANT Warriors to become gods, and slowly, but surely, be trickled into one universal build that can’t die, but kills everything, until every other class except Guardian gets nerfed into Oblivion. Then, once everyone except the soldier classes have been nerfed to hell, everyone shall choose a side: Guardian, or Warrior. Then they will ascend to godhood, and they’ll live among the stars as the new gods of Tyria, since they’ve apparently erased any presence of the gods EXCEPT Blathazar, who has given us the mists to fight. Plot twist: Balthazar is a warrior. WHOA. And so, since ANet can’t nerf Warriors without all the warriors crying and being sad and leaving the game, they will do tiny, subtle nerfs. All to trickle down into one massive build of 30/30/30/30/30 with Legendary Armor and Trinkets with Infused Celestial stats that give 300 of every stat, and when Warriors are gods, they will just let them use whatever weapons they want, and it is balanced.

So it has been written, so it shall be done.

Why do people complain...?

in Thief

Kaizz.7306

I play a thief alongside my Guardian now, but my wariror will probably become a condi bunker roamer. Thief is WAY more fun than I thought it cold ever be. I used to think stealth was op as hell and just simple as kitten to use. Nope, it’s simple to get into stealth, but thieves are about positioning, mobility, and playing “dirty.” People whine stealth and blind is op because they don’t know how to handle it.

After playing the other side, though, I’m telling you now, conditions ruin any thieves day. So many ways to rid yourself of them, but the health pool is only so big. The weapon versatility is daunting as well. S/D is my love right now for the mobility and flanks, but it’s freaking hard to just burst someone with that, because it’s not burst. D/D is the burst, but the lack of infiltrator’s strike saddens me. Love the shortbow, but that is NOT a real dueling weapon imo. That’s the support/mobility weapon that i can’t seem to get off one of my weapon slots. D/P… it’s so simple, but so annoying at the same time.

Yet, pve’ers don’t want to learn a class to counter it, they just want to whine. This is stuff I’ve learned from falling in love with a stealth class (I NEVER play stealthies in any game, always tanks) an realizing how they work. Now I kill plenty of thieves with my guardian just by bunkering and wearing them down, keeping them from overstealthing, catching them in Banishes (yup, GS/Hammer here). It’s fun. If they call you op, go ahead and let them. Show them how broken being a squishy class that can hide and do high damage to someone that just sits there and wacks a boss for 5 minutes is.

That said, Necros are really good against bunkers, but that seems to be it. I’m learning more classes and builds to see how they play, but I really just play Guardian. Am I Wasting My Time?

Kaizz.7306

Hey, so I’ve played a Guardian for over 1000 hours, and while I’m not bored, I’ve made quite a few alts, having a warrior, engineer, and now thief at 80 as well. Since I’m mainly focused on WvW with the occasional dungeons and some PvE, I decided to really learn how to play my thief. I’ve seen a lot of builds in action, getting kitten d by some, and demolishing others. As for myself, I’ve always hated the perma stealth thief builds, both to play and to use. It just seems pretty gimicky, albeit, having 6K crits with BS without even having my thief fully geared is entertaining. So really, for WvW I’ve been using either 0/20/30/20 or 0/30/30/10, both are fun, but both have used D/P and D/D. Seeing as how Thieves are apparently getting “nerfed”, is there a point to still learn the class, or should I just go ahead and work on my mesmer?

I want to stick with the thief, which is turning out to be more fun than I thought ( I’ve always hated stealthy rogue classes, preferring the tanks). Yet, I want to use my Thief in wvw and in dungeons, but after looking at the possible changes on the 10th, and hearing actual thieves saying they’re retiring because “D/D is dead”, what do? I know it’s long, but I hope what I’m asking is at least semi clear XD

“As for myself, I’ve always hated the perma stealth thief builds, both to play and to use. So really, for WvW I’ve been using either 0/20/30/20 or 0/30/30/10, both are fun, but both have used D/P”.
I have allways hated perma stealth, so i picked d/p combined with 30SA as my build. Makes sense.

Well to hate using it, I’d have to actually use it first. No sense in saying I don’t like something I haven’t tried before. To be fair, the wording is off, though, even if you did edit a big part of the post that would make it easier to understand. 0/20/30/20/0 isn’t perma stealth only, but it gives some of the most survival I’ve seen. I’ve been actively learning D/D and S/D since hitting 80.

Am I Wasting My Time?

I know it’s long, but I hope what I’m asking is at least semi clear XD

can i get a refund?

There’s actually a pretty large part of the population that plays SPvP, but saying hammers are useless outside of it makes it sound like someone hasn’t been playing the game that long. Hammers are useful pretty much everywhere, but the damage did need to be toned down a bit. Maybe not 20%, we’ll wait to see how that feels, but Earthshaking a group of players, or even in 1v1, then switching to mace+shield to spam the cc, all while doing pretty brutal damage is kinda bad. Not saying it’s OP, but it’s nice it’s being addressed.

All 'round build?

If you’re leveling, a really easy build is 20/0/30/20/0. It’s what I used to level my Guardian, and I got mine to 80 by the time pre release was over. Guardians are one of the classes that can play a level 80 build at lower levels, since there’s nothing really gamebreaking about the traits (for the most part). Increased damage against burning foes and Zealous blade in Zeal, Ret Armor and AH in Honor (30 points so you can play with meditations if you want to), shout cdr and 2H mastery for Valor. This will sound really scrubbish, but honestly, the build I use (I don’t use this anymore XD) makes me forget I need to dodge sometimes.

FYI, you will never hit the damage of a warrior, even if you had the exact same gear on. The damage scaling for warrior and Guardian weapons are to different, but it’s not a huge division between the two. I have an 80 Warrior, and it’s so freaking boring to me. There’s nothing really mind blowing about setting them up, except when to use what weapons. Unless you run triple shout gs/hammer+ sword or mace+ shield, they won’t feel the same.

not a guard->guard needs more mobility

Retreat is not worth the CD, and if you’re using Save Yourselves, better make sure you won’t be fighting anything soon. Staff is amazing, but in 1v1 situations, it’s not the best. If you could use Empower while on the move, Line of Warding didn’t have that long of a cast animation, and Orb of Light was homing, it’d be much different. Then again, if all that happened, it would probably be broken. Guardians really aren’t that mobile, but at the same time they kind of are. 3 Teleport skills, but all of them need either a target or someone close. 3 ways to gain swiftness, but 2 are on really long cooldowns, and the 3rd is tied to the staff, which is really not good if you’re doing 1v1, or roaming (with the exception of the movement necessity.) GS has a gap closer, it’s kind of short, but it’s still something, and that’s pretty much it.

I enjoy small group roaming and large group zerging, so staff is optimal, but those times when I’m solo roaming, honestly, I’d much rather just run at normal speed than use my staff. At least if i’m caught, I have a chance to survive on more than just my GS lol

I did all 24 Obelisks on one character. Friends told me that it appears to become bugged if you get disrupted while channeling an obelisk. It won’t count towards the title. I’m also at 23/24, I think the same thing happened a few times.

Here’s one thing I love. In the ESO series, specifically Skyrim, I always grab a bunch of books, and toss them in my house. Then, when I’m bored, I literally grab a few books, sit in a chair, and read a lot of them. I’d rather do that than to go to the site, and randomly see lore… it’s so unengaging, I don’t even bother to read it. We don’t have missions like GW1, the personal story only went so far, but the missions were how I learned the lore for GW1 so well and so fast.

Guardian WvW Power Roaming Build [And Video]

I’ve done a lot of roaming with a combination of all the 1H+Off Hands, and in general, I feel like Focus > Torch. Torch isn’t bad, but the damage from Zealots Fire and Cleansing Flame is decent at best. Meanwhile, Ray of Judgement blinds an enemy, gives regen, cures a condition, and does a surprisingly decent chunk of damage. Of course, Shield of Wrath is pretty much forcing your enemies to either attack you quickly, or take a good sized hit.

As far as Sword vs Mace, that really is preference. Zealot’s defense doesn’t feel quite as powerful as it looks. I always end up thinking I might as well have just done my 1 Chain. It’s “useful” for attacking ranged, and basically, that’s why I think the sword is for (dealing with ranged), but then we have the Mace that blocks, heals, and does more damage than people expect. No teleport, but you get a block that also does a bunch of damage if broken.

I do like your setup, though. Only thing I ended up switching was torch for Focus, but both are great.

Healing Power doesn’t scale high enough for it to really matter. It’s nice to have a bit extra, but you won’t see this massive boost in healing from EP and AH if you have 100% clerics vs 100% soldiers (gear and accessories).

I’m not sure what guild told you that, but when my guild is doing GvG’s, (really not bragging about myself, more about Hammer Guards) I get quite a few pm’s telling me to hurry to wherever (since I pretty much only play Guardian). Hammer Guardians are awesome, Guardians in general are awesome. Mace is fun and pretty good, but I use that more for PvE/Dungeon stuff… Hammer can go anywhere lol

I’ve played over 2K hours I believe… probably 10 exotics TOTAL from drops since pre release… no precursors. 2 of my guildies are actually almost to double digit precursors that they DIDN’T buy or MF…. I almost cried when a friend got 2 Colossus and Zap in 10 hours… MF to get Zap, sold it for hammers, got Colossus, sold it, bought more hammers, Colossus….

Build Templates and Armor templates, switchable on the fly.
Having a larger selection of skills to choose from for each class.
Green named weapon drops from bosses
Free WP travel…
Special Missions to tell the story and unlock areas.
Guild Halls…. smh

Just About WvW Ranks...

I know this has been brought up many times, but I’m curious as to how people feel about the WvW ranks. Specifically that they aren’t account wide, and instead, character based. I get that they did it for a reason, but I kinda wish there was an option to change that. I leveled alts to try out playstyles and learn how classes work, but I only play my Guardian. I have a lot of ranks on other toons, I think my Warrior has been well over 30 (ok, not ALOT, but I had stopped playing when ranks came out.) Just curious.

how is the AOE cap hurting zergs?

in WvW

I will say it again. If the cap were raised performance would suffer greatly. That is why it hasn’t been changed.

The question is, why is this acceptable? Just cause you say it is so does not make it okay.

If I try to sell a car, I cannot tell a customer “we put an automatic system in the car where you cannot got above the speed of 50mph, because if you do, the engine will suffer for it”. You are basically admitting your code/engine/server architecture is inefficient.

Why was a game allowed to ship while in such a state?

I am not for or against an AoE cap mind you, I just dont understand how a company such as Arenanet can ship an unfinished and broken product and get away with that.

Is it really about ANet’s tech that they purposely “dumbed down” based on performance reviews during the BWE’s? Or is it more about how some people have computers that just can’t handle all that stuff. I run the game maxed out blah blah and in WvW, my fps dips to ~15 in large fights. Not everyone is that lucky. I’m not quite sure, but I remember there being no aoe cap in bwe1 for a bit, or it was still glitchy. It ran so horribly at times, and even though they were still working on the engine tests, I still didn’t want to play sometimes because I wasn’t really playing… I was just logged into a slideshow lol

Guardian or Warrior?

I played both, and even though I have loved my Guardian for longer, Warriors are equally fun. Extremely durable, they have a lot more options of damage builds, but they aren’t as support oriented as Guardians. I’ve always thought of it like this: Warriors= Offensive with no magical themes, Guardians Defensive with magical “Paladin” type themes.. They can do pretty much the same things in different ways.

Honestly, play whichever you want. In general, I’d say Warriors are more “requested”, but I have yet to see someone competent turn down a “good” Guardian. That’s another thing, as well. Both classes are really easy to pick up and get a handle for, but Warriors are much easier (IMO) to modify builds for without losing viability.

Help me choose a WvW class please.

Warriors and Guardians. I personally love my Guardian more than my Warrior, but both are 80 (as is my Engi), but from what you’re describing, Warrior, Guardian, and MAybe Necro would fit you. Warriors are ridiculous God Tier right now. Guardians are super close, they just fall short of Warriors from a health perspective.

People say thieves and Mesmers are great for WvW, which isn’t wrong, but they’re more “specialized” classes. My Guardian runs pretty much 1 build with changing armor, and I roam, do group events, zerg wvw, and pretty much everything except SPvP with it, and it works great. Warriors are pretty much the same. Thieves are decent, but they’re getting easier and easier to shut down, and Mesmers need to be really smart or they can easily outplay themselves.

Up to you, but I’d stick to the heavy classes. Learn them, get used to them, and have fun being the backbone of pretty much every GW2 meta lol
