Wonder how we aren’t supposed to be able to fight anyone when my S/D thief (which is a mobility king btw) can always engage in a fight and win :/

Arguing that mobility requires heavy traiting is a complete falsehood, you only need to trait one thing and that’s dash. After that you are uber mobile and the rest of your stuff can be dedicated towards combat leaving you completely able to fight.

Even in pvp, while Mesmer’s portal can outmobility a thief on a rare usage. They require you to have preplaced the portal and can only happen 1 time every minute (If I’m correct on the cd’s) Thief has no cd on it’s mobility meaning over the duration of the game it still outclasses even the Mesmer’s portal.

If you traited your choice of dodge into mobility one could argue that this is already heavy spec.

Every build pay something if they spec into dash, especialy Cond builds who haven`t enough dmg without lotus trainning pressure… some builds lose easy acess to stealth by combo leap and 10% bonus dmg… Heck I had even to fit acro in my build just because I can`t afford to use dash and lose so much cond pressure.

So you need to sacrifice to have good mobility, is not baseline on daredevil…


A S/D can`t kill any bunker in the meta, it can`t even decide a bunker vs bunker with +1. If you can engage and kill on any fight you want with S/D thief that means you play a lot better than your opponent.

If you have the same ability level of your opponent what I said will aply, the mobility will serve nothing because once there you can`t kill the guy and be back fast to help elsewhere… so your mobility done nothing for your team in that case.

Even in the case that you got there fast right now any bunker can hold a thief almost forever on a duel, meaning your mobility is resumed to helping +1… otherwise thats a pseudo-mobility… a mobility that doesn`t impact in the game.

Mesmer portal mobility is not about the mesmer himself… is about beeing able to make instant rotations (like I said), in case you don`t know what that means it means that the mesmer can use portal to ’’transform’’ a mostly lost 2×2 into a instawin 3×1 elsewhere or trade places with someone having a hard time somewhere.

If a mesmer can`t win a duel, he will drop a portal there and leave, keeping the enemy frozen on that point (if the opponent leaves even briefly he will port, decap and bunk it) this allow him to try to 4×3 somewhere and snowball after very fast, by using the same portal, or if that fight fails, port the fail fight into that point to 3×1 smash that guy and win a point anyway.

Portal doesn`t mean a teleport once every cd, it means he puts pressure on a point while he is not there if you are bunker vs bunker with a enemy portal by your side, it means that point is mosly doomed, the moment you start to win the long bunker fight some gravity-illusions stuff will probabily happen there.

You can switch matchups and turn 1×2 – 2×1 into 2×2 – 1×1 however your team find better.

This strategical moblity plays on a bunker clearly outperform ‘’shortbow 5+dash’’ +1 strategical usage on terms of map presence and pressure.

Now i maked a bit more clear hope you understanded.

Yes venomshare dmg is your dmg, not theirs.

You just apply your conditions with their attacks. You can even see the cond dmg ticks while the ally with the venom can`t.

I agree venom share is even more passive than d/d deathblossom spam and DH but is also weaker imo.

Is not hard at all to use f1,f2,f3 on DH… I know hard is relative but this is just easy comparing to keep alive on thief with all aoe spam flying on mid.

I love thief… I realy do, this is one of the biggest reasons I had to admit I`m not good enough to help my team on this meta if i`m playing thief.

I know some can do… but i suspect most can`t.

And my opnion is that someone learning to readjust on a new way of playing shouldn`t do it.

But you could totaly do it on unranked or hotjoin, even edge of the mists.

Beeing mobile doesn’t means running fast, having spamable shadowstep or dash…

It means your ability of getting to/running from relevant places (arguabily keeping your ability to matter once you get there)… so portal mesmer has same mobility as thief on a spvp cenario. (Beeing able to do instant rotations outclasses a thief function of always beeing any place he is needed to +1, as a thief alone can’t possibily bunker a point, so his mobility usefullness is debatable)

For wvw I agree thief is by far the best mobility as it is the only that can reliabily follow a zerg indefinily and desingage any battle whenever is needed.

One important thing to point tho… is that this mobility king thief can’t duel anyone, is merely a scout bot… While a duelist/roamming thief traited for combat will still get caught by Shiro Rev close gap spam+quickness.

Not at all, everyone loves a DH on their team… because you know that doesn’t necessarily need to be a good player to make his presence and power turn the tides of a battle.

Unlike thief… thieves right now okish to play on cases that you are confident that you have extraordinary awareness and duel ability (fast fingers included), not the case of someone who is handcapped at least for now until you don’t completely adapt to your new condition.

Playing ebola deathblossom spam could help to solve this problem I agree.

But to be realy helpful to your team you shouldn’t be considering playing a already underpowered class if you are fisicaly handcapped.

But again thats my opnion only, and I included myself on that team of people who love thieves but are just not godly enough to make it realy helpful for my team. (and I have all my fingers working)

I love how slick shoes nearly always guarantees immediate death.

You can shadowstep out of slick shoes. You can also make slick shoes much more difficult to land by attacking directly into scrappers less often and less predictably. This can be accomplished by using tactics like using Bound/Vault to the front or front side of the scrapper instead of directly on top of him/her, dodging backwards out of shadow shot if you suspect slick shoes is coming, etc. Basically, if you can continually put them in a position where they need to chase you to land slick shoes rather than cut off one of your attacks, you’ll have a chance to react to it. The same tactic applies to avoiding gravity well, chrono shield #5, shield bash/head butt, impact strike, etc.

So you basicaly needs to be a better player on every aspect so that you won’t get instakilled by a single spell, after that you proceed on doing less dmg than the enemy but outplaying him constantly by predicting, thus avoiding every play he can do (knowing all his spells is key here).

Fair enough… so you just need to be a significantly better player than your opponent, have some luck to don’t get killed by constant aoe pressure and you will most likely win.

I would advice remaping the whole game to your numeric keyboard so that you can eventualy develop a ability to play with your other hand.

Unless you lost fingers from both hands, if thats the case you should play DH… you would only need to cast 2 most of the time, and sometimes (a bit of fierce gameplay) cast all your traps one by one with maximum 0.5 seconds between them (thats the daze duration).

You could probabily achieve 100% efficience on DH even if you only have 1 hand to play or half your fingers.

Yes, but the problem with mobility on wvw is actually going to places faster, chase people and run from zergs, the in-combat mobility is not such of an issue imo, I run shadowstep anyways.

Yw Jungle, that combo field+lotus can realy help us not having necessarily to use double d/d… I might try it as the lack of Sb 5 is driving me insane too… especialy when guild roam groups start to chase me, I can outrun them most of the time with shadowstep, but SB 5 would allow me to hit and run them instead of always desingage.

Also even with daggerstorm getting rid of immo the stomp elite is indispensable on those 1×2 against duo roamming that you talked about (in my experience)… when 1×2 and 1×3 is almost impossible to finish someone due to the ressers… the stomp elite can be used on the resser to Interrupt the ress and then you switch targets to the downed guy before the third hit.

If you see that you need more survivability you can use the leeching sigil that we spoke about on the other Thread, I done some roamming with already and people barely could lower my hp bar (but I run dire so its a different build).

/\ Sb 5 is what provides the best mobility actually. But dash provides a good substitute for those who want double d/d, p/p… or even d/p + staff.

I agree with Asuras on the sense that not necessarily a standard to all weapon costs is the best way.

See vincent, making all weapons “cost” the same and balance everything around it will indeed make them have the same power…

But this is not necessarily the best… some weapons are just stronger than other because they also have more danger on using them, they could also be stronger and be less versatile… and beeing more costy is a way of doing this.

Making a comparison on rl weapons a Hammer cost a lot initiative for us to swing, because we can only swing them like once per 2 seconds. But regardless of that a impact that a hammer attack does on someone will probabily instantly disable a person, different from a dagger than needs a somewhat precise strike but can be used twice per second and even run freely while doing it…

Idk if this analogy was of any use… but what I meant by that is that weapons having different power is normal, because they do. But they have some drawback inherent to this power… this is why the “best melle weapon” irl would be something like a Katana and not a massive hammer that could smash through a armor and kill a person with a single hit.

The general efficiency of a weapon need to be balanced with the others imo, but the frequency of spells, or how much you can do with it, or how powerful it is doesn’t necessarily.

Your way of balancing is like we saying that all irl weapons should have the same weight… (this is what I tryed to say)

People like different impact and want to be able to do different choices… some like few very powerful choices, others like a lot of medium choices… and others want ALL choices regardless if they are not going to be as powerfull, different costs on weapons serve that purpose imo.

Basicaly is Stealth (from leap) > Sneak Attack > Unload > Headshot important spells for power and cond dmg from traits > repeat/desingage with bow.

Ive seen most of you veterans on p/p saying that a p/p thief must have dash to survive and the stealth is not worth for you guys because sneak attack is just weaker than other Unload.

On a Hybrid build that Sneak Attack+Venom>Unload be more powerful for bursting than a pure power p/p just using unload twice? And this hybrid pressure could prove more valuable?

Ive played a lot of p/d cond thief pre-hot but don’t have realy know how strong that hybrid concept could be against p/p counters or cond builds counters… What you guys think?

I dropped Trickery and I find it unnecessary now.

Gotta remeber most of our dmg comes for imparring daggers and dodges (in your case interrupts I suppose) , the DB spam while very strong is plenty to kill a person even without that extra initiative from trickery traits.

So I run DA/Acro/DD and been working wonder for wvw roam… what I do tho is everytime I die somehow and have to WP I will equip the Dash dodge… and I ll use it until I find a possible encounter… by that time you will have more than 1min stacked switfness that will certainly help you on the combat.

But of course you could just Use trickery, DD, DA and equip a SB.

Basicaly the SB should solve all your mobility problems, because walking spamming sb5 is faster than 100% switfness uptime…

In my case I made a choice to use double d/d with this tip that I just told you.

But there is no “right” thing to do. Most people realy need trickery because they are used to the extra initiative that trickery provides… but the caltrops on dodge are not all that sacrifice, they are nothing comparing to lotus trainning dps. (especialy if you are using dash)… the problem is that you need trickery for the interrupt strat.

But please give me feedback on your decision and results because i’m a DD wvw solo roammer and faced that same problem on my build, regardless of my solution I proposed any extra ideas could be helpful.

The swiftness from acro is annoying to use constantly, you have to keep dodging over and over… so the “equip dash when you wp” helped me a lot.

You should check the Thread "runes/sigils for cond DD’’ we are developing a build very similar to yours and you could get some insights…

1.Remove NPC’s. You know how it is: You’re ahead by 100 or so points, but they close the gap by getting NPCs. Mechanics like this can drive people away. Yes way of closing the gap and revert snowball are insane and must be removed Then you have Lord kills that deflect players away from points in Legacy. Exactly, the 150 points from lord is enough the win the game on its own!!!! I mean the team only need 500 to win, so 150 is like… 90%

2.Bigger nodes: Lots of classes have big AoE’s, no one likes giving the opponent free decapping progress just to avoid taking damage or conditions. Because the way it is now you’d have to make sacrifices and choices, and thats boring This way you can have two dragonhunters drop traps on a node, avoid damage, and still hold the point. So that 2 kitten DH absolutely can’t force a decap… I agree because right now is already too hard to 1×2 on bunker mesmer or bunker ele, bunker’s live is hard on this meta you know?

3.Temple of the Silent Storm: Need I say more? Go on, please Uggh, fine. Temple is annoying because it’s vertical, narrow, lots of LoS, its layout confuses noobs, Yes, ok and whoever channels tranquility gets all three points for free. yes so what?, just decap it back or fight for the objective, and the channeling of tranquility is already interrupted by any auto attack, is even more ok than lord Like a lord or enough NPC kills can be a complete game changer allowing a fast recovery and even win. Well this is why they are there, the problem with the lord is actually the opposite, when he is used as a faster snowball toll, he beeing a recovery method is the reason he exists, especialy with graveyard being kitten impossible to get if a team hugs it This battleground needs to be scrapped, maybe even replaced with Spiritwatch which is actually good but not available in ranked. Battle of Khylo on the other hand had so much potential, but they just had to kill it with the trebs. how you want a 3 points deathmatch with no other thing to do on the map beside those 3 points, I understand that secundary objetives can be boring if you are winning, but they are the only way (beside rotation) of forcing the winning team out of confort zone Despite aggressive trebbers firing at mid people still rush center. you can kill the treber or the treb, or maybe just not go there No, get sides if you really don’t want someone dedicated to a treb. Even if they aim for sides it will rarely ever land near the node. So do that!!! problem solved?! Would like to add that this is bs, trebs can be easily aimed for sides too

I think a suggestion that one guy here made is very feseable and much alike a lot we’ve seen on other rpgs.

“if you are teamed with a guy 2 divisions higher or lower than you, there will be no pip awarded for that team”

This could be even something that a people could option as On of Off “Allow my team to face unawarded matches sometimes” — Warning, leaving this option disable will put your team on below the others on the Queue.

This way teams that play for the sport and are ok with having a match without rewards sometimes like 1/3 of their matches will be queued on top of all teams that rather wait and make sure their matches will matter (pip-wise).

So you solve 2 problems
1: Less wait time on queues… now you can play a lot more. (we could even reward those matches that don’t give pips with Achieviments or more advance on pvp Track or special pvp track “Sportive Pvp Track” or even all those 3)

2: Manipulation of the Division Sytem, would be now “part” of the system with different rewards and waiting time for those who rather wait less than have absolute fair matches.

You know what would realy shock you guys?

If metabuilds weren`t actualy the best for soloQ… they were only the best if you are on premade teams with communication and pro-level gameplay trainning, like the guys that are running them.

And guess what? the guys who play tournament are on a completely different scene that contest cosistently the 3 points all match long using portals to rotate…

So yeah we do nothing of this and keeping 2 points is one of the best strategy for our level of play most of the time…

Is amazing how meta sheepies can`t see something obvious like that. Meta builds are the best for the tournament and team they are in… generaly not for you (or me).

The best stuff for you to play is something that realy exceels on what you can do as a player…

You have fast fingers and is good on managing all your spells? Try Rev… any rev will do great on your hands…

You are not very good in combat you can make good decisions and position well? Well so try DH or Ranger maybe.

Anything that can realy take advantage of your unique abilities as a player will be better than something that a pro used because that was fitted to him, and his team, not you… not soloQ.

Theyre already stupidly OP on every single class when it comes to small scale fights in wvw. They simply outshine power builds in every single way. And theres alot of us that only play this game for wvw and solo roaming. Our game mode is already on life support as is.

You by cond roammers outshinning you mean like power does on pve? or like bunkers are keeping every burst class out of spvp?

If the fact is that the class is bad atm I’m 100% in agreement with you.

I just think that everyone that start ranting or playing badly or thinking they will lose because the class is overall weaker is doing wrong.

Because we are not pro-players, so maybe the guy is just very good with thief or warrior so he will be a valuable asset on your team. (perhaps not if you are beeing a jerk to him).

Anyways I think we start badly as a violent agreement. We both believe warrior is bad atm I just don’t agree with people reactions (for the reasons I explained) and I though you were supportive of this kind of reactions.

I didn’t mention thief but ok, thief is not in a terrible spot, not a good one but thief still brings kitten to the table and can be successful.. Warrior eh, yeah you can be successful vs bad players or bad comps.. Nice..

I also didn’t say it was a 99% loss now did I , I said thats how people perceive it. Maybe I should have said that part first to avoid kneejerk reactions from people that don’t fully read a post before they respond to it.

Anyways on Thief forums there’s a thread about people going AFK because there’s a thief on their team, thats why we are on the same boat.

Beeing a thief this is also why I defend that no one should be dismissed as a chance of loss, because some players are very good with their ‘’not-meta’’ classes, that players often can outperform average players playing meta-builds.

Of course I have no data on this beside my own experience.

When you are in that situation where you have to choose between the two, it is because you have low MMR or playing hotjoin/unranked. A good player using a meta build that knows to rotate points and not overcommit on battles has high MMR.

Stop lowering standards for warriors and say they are fine. A good player with a good build > A good player with a weak build.

I would certainly love to agree with you but we all know that good players that know how to rotate points and not overcommit on battles are precious gems that make us smile.

And I’m not saying something fine, they are everything but fine, I just saying 99% of loss is BS (because it is).

Same for me as Monica. Are the ‘easy in sapphire’ guys perhaps a dragon hunter or reaper? Those profs, stacked seem to win 70% of time (i’m often matched against them).

There are plenty of effective condi-thieves in WvW. They lack the versatility of their power based brethren but any class with limited condi removal is fodder. These builds typically revolve around a ridiculous amount of stealth and evasion so they become near impossible to kill. Their downside typically is that certain classes/builds are completely unkillable and their +1 capacity is substantially reduced.

“perma-stealth” trapper thief…. well if you don’t have HoT this is probabily the strongest thief you can have for roamming wvw unless you are a god at d/p.

Edit: If you don’t have HoT you should actually not play at all lol.

Cond thief is already pretty good on wvw roaming and doable (as far as running thief goes) on spvp.

If were to buff its pve ability buffing venom share build would probabily be the best take to not make every other cond thief mode better and the following huge QQ from comunity leading to nerf-bat spanking.

But I think thiefs problems on pve goes way beyond beeing cond or power.

The real problem is that other classes can do stuff like protecting, buffing, make others better… and well, keep alive… while we don’t.

Well if you are going wvw roaming I highly recomend you go for Acro or equip a shortbow if you decide for DA…

Acro does not make up for the loss of dmg from DA. Choosing acro above DA is totaly ok, but keep in mind its a sizeable (but sometimes necessary) sacrifice to dmg in order to have survivability and mobility.

I though you were going for bewildering ambush since your have 30% confusion duration and the perplexity interrupt proc has a 8sec cd. But I can see why yet another interrupt can be good on its own, specialy when aplying torment.

Well yesterday on ruby my team was completely destroyed by a ranged warrior that could instakill you if you were under 50%.

We couldn’t focus fire and kill him because there were a mesmer that keept protecting him, but this duo totaly wrecked my team on every fight attemp.

Also I wanna point that has NO RELATION to personal score.

personal score might reflect good gameplay, but might also reflect double capping, fighting useless battles that would be won even if you aren’t there while your team loses elsewhere, among other bad plays.

Carry the game doesn’t mean single handely getting all 3 points.

It means beeing so good that your moves made such a huge difference that even if your teammates made bad moves you would still win.

Like per example, suppose that you go to far on the start of the match…. the rest of your team (after one capping home) got locked on a endless battle on mid and the point remainned uncapped.

Enemys start coming to try to retake their home (your far) in waves of 1 and 2…but you still somehow managed to win all those 1×1 and 1×2...

Eventually 3 guys will come to take your point… suppose you can hold that 3 guys for more than 20 seconds before you die…. or 10 seconds and still run alive to fight at mid.

you absolutely carried the game.

You only holded 1 point (far) but won on multiple attempts of retaking it and that relieved great pressure from the fight at mid.

I could provide other examples of course but I’m only explainning that “carry” doesn’t mean get all 3 points by yourself.

You probably were expected to loose badly and you only lost marginally. In short, you did better than expected. The real question is, why were you given such a match?

Because beside the % of loss he still could win or do well. (and he did). And got reward for it…

This is one of the best things about the system… its ability to improvise unfair matches and reward properly (supposing people wouldn’t manipulate it)

Also to get enough tickets for the 4 wings you need 2x Ruby.

or 3(4?) Sapphire.

But idk how many tickets you need beside the wings if you need those “seals” from tickets to combine with others and etc.

limited player objective based complex RPG games are not that suited for solo queue. mobas only work as you have hardly any rotations, and splits are obvious.

You guys realize that while they lower their queue time they make the wait time of other legendary and diamond teams that are not smurfing even higher?

Also no if they are smurfs this is wrong.

1: The guys who won this match deserved 2-3 pips only got 1.
2: Trying to find lower mmr teams than the sytem would normaly provide is cheating
3: Trying to lower your queue time by manipulating the system makes the system even worst, by kitten if data feedback and/or making other people wait even longer.
4: This makes the league badges more and more easy to obtain allowing them to duel weakers teams makes diamond and legendary badges trivial, and this is detrimental to the system.

I go crawling with DH to freecap far if no one else does it… and even use F2 to jump distance, if I die there on 1×1 or 2×1 because I don’t have that F2 is not my fault

(Yes its terrible but people on strategy games ignore maps sometimes, I can only presume almost everyone will on action-rpgs, most people don’t even know how or why to call a target on team fights so asking for map awareness and smart rotations is way too much)

babazhook seeing as your thief interrupt build will have slightly less dps and more of a cond burst because of the perplexity runes internal cd you might as well go ’’full burst" using the heal tricks with trappers respite as I said before.

SoM is at its best if you are playing for full DB spam with extra initiative for those too… (aka ebola thief) more cond dps oriented

What do you think? The problem imo is that you need trickery for the confusion on steal too, and if you are running imparring daggers and a interrupt kit you probabily would be best suited for bursting.

Are you considering running acro? or SB? without any of those your mobility will be very kitten, barely unplayable for wvw…. and for imparring daggers be a real burst utility DA is of utmost importance… so idk

My point is cond thief now works (barely) if you are commited with dps (SoM+Agility Signet/Roll for Initiative+Krait Runes/Thorns… Tric/Acro/DD)

Or cond-burst: Imparring Daggers, Venom, Scavenging Runes and DA traits (most importantly the 33% poison dmg and duration and trappers respite)… most people give up acro to have this extra dmg, and use SB to make up for the mobility loss… I think this is giving up way too much survivability by losing the extra D/D sigil set and all acro traits, thats why I run DA/Acro/DD and no SB.

Although for spvp I generaly run DA/Tri/DD so I have maximum burst possible and try to stay alive by picking the fight and the moment to jump in and out (shadowstep on build too)

Before developing ever further your interruption build concept you should probabily commit to one of those 2 game-styles (if you didn’t already do so)

If something MIGHT indicate something. Then it doesn’t matter.

Points Might indicate some good plays by rotating and helping on various places, or might indicate double capping and stupid 2×1 on people that would already lose that 1×1 and loss elsewhere because of that.

So… it might indicate… or might not… so is BS and it does not matter omg…

woah thats crazy xD…

idk… while perplexity was indeed hated as the cheesiest of all runes and is very strong on mesmer I don’t think it would be as good on thief as other runes we have at disposal… the motive is that everything aply or bleed, or poison, or both of them so we should focus on boasting one of those.

also the perplexity runes effect has internal cd so fortunaly you can’t aply a lot of stacks

I’m getting the feeling you think thief is OP.

If you could confirm this is not heresy, that’d be great.

I am a main thief and I can confirm that I can easily burst any druid or even celestial cele easily to 30% with the opener, and stomp them from 30% using the elite spell.

Yes thief just that great in this meta because of everything he has against bunkers and how well he can hold point 2×1 forever ignoring any form of aoe.

It can only be considered harder because of the absence of checkpoints, but my w/l has only improved.

I can’t believe what I’m reading on this Thread…

I can’t… just.. I don’t understand how you guys can possibily not understand this.

SPVP on gw2 is all about the nodes/points/colored circles on the ground.

1: Some things increase personal score.
2: Some things make you win the game.
3: Some things make you lose the game.

Killing someone to get a point AND get the point: 1, 2
Bunkering/Holding a Point: a big 2 here, especialy on this meta.
Fighting a battle outside a point while your team has point disadvantage: 3
Win a 1×1 outside a point, but your team wiped elsewhere while you do so: 1, 3
Killing a Npc while you team needs you because they are 3×4: 1,3
Going far, winning there, but your team wiped elsewhere: 1,3

Resume: To win your team needs to hold 2 or 3 points for more time than the other, with 10 score plus for every kill and some bonus score for other stuff, most noticiable the 150 for lord.

EVERYTHING that you do, that doesnt help your team to make 500 score (generaly that means only holding any 2 for most of the match, sometimes 3) is not helping your team win and therefore do not matter whatsoever.

If you are considering doing Quip make sure you can tolerate the noise of clownish shoots for your entire gameplay (I certainly couldn’t).
