Would this build work in WvW?

Maybe you should say what you are looking to do…

In that build of yours, zerging you’re not really helpful in a zerg v zerg fight… No real stability at all.

Solo’ing or small group fighting maybe, but even then you lack range and healing ability beyond the signets for healing and elite skill. I wouldn’t try that build myself, for other weapons and skills help your survivability and the survivability of fellow roamers too.

I think GS needs adressing much more then Axe or Focus. atleast u can hit a player with Axe and Focus where the only thing u hit a players thats somewhat AWAKE on GS is Nightfall. That its good for PvE dosent concern me at all, this game is for PvE and PvP and we was given a weapon that cant hit a player thats chained to a post… really do something to that first.

That’s the thing, it’s not good in PVE, sure big numbers but the overall dps of even GD spam can’t keep up with any other power DPS build, hell it doesn’t even keep up with Rev.

So it’s just sub-par or bad all around. Now, it’s fun in PVE but that doesn’t make it good.

Same can be said in WvW and PvP. The attacks are slow and clumsy to the point that every move is easily dodged. If you run GS in those two game modes, you only do it for fun or to give a rival a handicap. It is really that sad of a weapon for us that we might as well not even have it.

Is this in a group fight, you solo running from a group or in a zerg vs zerg where the commander was being moa’d constantly?

Zerg fights. Like 30+v30+. Certain guilds just spam it every chance they get on enemy commanders when a fight starts.

Generally most servers in EU (can’t comment on US servers) will be very angry if you do this. I don’t just mean the ones you’re fighting but your own server will hate you too.

It’s a really lame thing to do that lowers most peoples enjoyment of WvW, rather lose a T3 keep in a 15 min struggle than pin snipe and cause them all to run like the clueless zerglings they are.

Yes to the last part. The pin snipe is real and caused two regular commanders I had been playing with to rage quit after the third or fourth moa’ing. Anet either needs to fix it or remove it or make it so its easier for additional commanders to tag up once one is moa’d and downed.

the blood magic one won’t happen as death magic is suppose to be minion line only… besides we don’t need more minions when we can already produce 15 of them rather easily.

As for the others, they don’t really need to be touched either. What it seems like is you want to kitten it and make it OP. Necro and Reaper are in a good place right now, no need to screw it up.

Necromancer is better at managing conditions than inflicting them.

Where other professions sweat conditions, Necromancer eats them, donates them, or duplicates them.

Necromancer’s main condition dps comes from bleeds but they are relatively weak. They take time to stack into a high dps. Burning, on the other hand, does a bunch of damage so it’s dps ramps up fast. Other professions can do more condition damage but Necromancer is always there to leverage what is on the field with condi-mastery skills.

i love necro esp when you have 2 bosses. if everyone focuses one boss i can usually take the other one down a quarter or half its health from transferring condis.but if everyone spreads their condis out i cant do nearly as much with it.

It still works, but yes I notice it can tick a little lower instead of the 5k or higher ticks from like bleeds and stuff that people can help you stack on boss.

As for the question, is Necro or Reaper the best condi class… I’m partial and would say yes. However, in actuality it maybe a draw as I can put out conditions without burning through half of my cool downs almost as fast as a condi shatter Mesmer friend of mine can. That being said, unlike him I can share the conditions from one target to other targets in the area without placing having to transfer self conditions from myself to the target as some implied. Just be sure you stack as many conditions on a target before hitting Epidemic on them.

If you want WvW dueling and WvW condi based play, I’d still say Necro/Reaper or Mesmer or Thief are better than burn warrior. One of my old guild friends was a burn warrior and my bleeds using krait runes were on par with her warrior’s burns. Just she had a bit more direct damage power in it than my weak scepter direct damage hits caused.

If you WvW play as condi reaper or condi necro, you’ll find people are using resistance a lot, be sure to use boon conversion weapons and skills as much as possible as this will make it so that when resistance runs out they get hurt badly… And if you and your allies put vulnerability on them, then Decimate Defenses will up your crit chance to like 50% if they have the max stack of 25 on them.

Also if you spec for Dhuumfire, you have your own burning. However, necro/reaper builds that go condi based should generally spit out bleeds that tick as much as some get burns up to. However, you’ll also be ticking poisons, torment, and burns too where others only focus on one or two conditions.

Actually, here’s a little something that may help too…

I use Trailblazer’s gear, Trailblazer weapons and a mix of Trailblazer and Dire/Rabid trinkets. I’d recommend using krait runes if you are going to use scepter and focus, and deathly chill trait. However, runes of nightmare and runes of the afflicted would be my main choices instead.

Afflicted runes because they increase poison and bleed durations and you can literally get 100% on bleeds with like 75% on chill and poison from it if you trait right. Nightmare runes mainly for the extra condi removal that you rarely even notice proc’ing.

For a usual condi DPS build I’d go Reaper, Soul Reaping, and Curses like Tongku said.

However, I find that I maybe placed in a party without any guardians and therefore I have to use my own stab and damage mitigation. When this happens, I use Death Magic in place of Curses and it ups your sustain a lot but at the coast of some condition damage.

If you really are in a bad group situation then you may need Blood magic, in place of Death Magic or Curses, but this is very rare and isn’t a choice I expect you’d need to use.

Also be prepared to swap up your utilities and elites as situations may call for Epidemic, while other commanders and situations may call for wells. And while others like throwing disable may call for the use of spectral wall.

So TL;DR…

Use Trailblazer’s gear with Dire/Rabid trinkets. Use Soul Reaping and Reaper spec. trait lines. Change out Curses spec trait line to Death Magic when you need more sustain. Use Curses spec line when you are more worried about condi DPS. Learn what situations you will encounter will require what sort of utility or elite skill and set it up accordingly. A.k.a. if you going to roam you would likely not use wells, but if you’re going to be in a zerg/blob you will likely end up using them.

WvW Roaming Viability

People say that rangers and even thieves can burst down a condi reaper or even a normal non-wells necro. While this maybe true in some situations where necro and reaper are played poorly, I find in my roaming, that its rare if the person plays it right and know how to counter the counters that counter your build. Takes time to learn and find that though, so unless you plan on maining one and playing theory crafting, then you’ll likely get owned by 1 or 2 players coming to defend objectives.

If you feel you need stealth alternative, then yes use Norn elite, though I find chill to the bone nice too for reaper when people realize that I can’t easily be killed and start running from me. my ownly major flaw, limited ability to run after someone I want to play with, since it takes a little bit to out last resistance and to get 15+ stacks of vulnerability on someone to increase my crit chance high enough to make resistance useless against my attacks.

Anyways, if you willing to put the time and money into it, you’ll find reaper especially to be easy to adapt to changing situation and to roam with. With that said, the other classes have a far easier time at it…

WvW Quality of Life Suggestions

I know all the potential negatives and trolling that can come from this. I did some commanding last night and it was nigh impossible to coordinate a stonemist 3 way with typing and the pugs simply ignoring the chat while the other servers were clearly in voice comms of some kind with how effectively they coordinated.

Something for my squad or for shot range comms that could help me coordinate pugs who don’t want to alt-tab out to get on teamspeak would be sweet. It should have vox, push to talk, and continuous stream options (though i doubt anyone would use the thrid one). If bandwidth is a problem anet could contract it out to Mumble or someone of the likes.

Anti trolling measures could include:
- Blocking a player blocks their voice comms too
- Commander has priority override option for their squad, cmdr and lieutenants can mute players in the squad
- Report options for language and harassment

This would be more helpful than Anet likely realizes, especially with people DDoS’ing on all tiers, the parent (main) server’s TeamSpeak server.

I would go as far as say make it so that all members on the map can speak even if not in squad. As their many people (solo, duo, trio, and small guild party) roaming groups that let people know of the zergs and attack opposing objectives while the main big zerg is doing something else.

Even then to coordinate better without using TeamSpeak commander comm channel too with other commanders. Like have it so that squad members hear the commander of their squad but the commander of the squad can hear the other commander too as a dim whisper.

Seeing the new Bloodstone Fen got me thinking, could we get a different backpack/wing set that is crystalline structure based other than the branded back pack and Holographic Shattered Dragon Wings.

Maybe even make a skeletal wing set too without the membrane as well for necromancers and reapers.

Agreed same with me and CT Mastery points. There aspects to the Mastery points like legendary crafting that I want, but as a predominant WvW player, I don’t often get a chance to play PvE to get mastery points. I mean I do have some mastery points, but after a point, getting more mastery points just stalls as you have to grind content that you don’t want to do or have the time to do.

Therefore, having more mastery points for CT, maybe even a way to get them in WvW too through the some easier to achieve achievements would be nice. I’m not saying an achievement like capture Stonemist Castle 2,000 times, wow it barely flips now 5 times in 7 days… but something like map completion in WvW maps gives a mastery point for instance. Right now it really gives nothing.

Also maybe find a way to go back to the old way of doing the upon level 80 you still earning say mastery points for ‘X’ number of xp or ‘X’ number of tomes of knowledge. Hay, you get a lot of Tomes from the reward tracks to justify that change too.

WvW players want the buff aura?

If you don’t want the buff don’t fight around claimed structures. Keeps should be hard to take, not rolled over. And yes the outnumbered buff should give a stat boost, that would be something useful about it at least.

lol, and here we lost keeps even with the buffs and keep presence on.

Love it just wish it was sticky’d because it states all the right things, especially for us roamers and duelers, that others don’t always follow. And one should note, it also applies to WvW and to EotM as you can practice the same things there and I have had a few good duels in EotM and done scouting and roaming there too.

As a commander on CD I always post which ts channel and the address of the ts in chat. This imho is a commanders job if they want you to join them.
I usually have a temp channel made under the WvW section of CD ts. Nudies Hangin is usually the name of it. You’re more than welcome to join anytime. I won’t be online again though until Wednesday night as I am out of town after today. Hope to see ya there.

It’s also a job of a Lt. too. Lt’s should both organize parties, do invites, and post the TS information. And on CD, I had noticed back when the 4 pairing happened, no one knew which TS server to join. I would expect it to be more of the host server you all join and then it would cut down on some of the issues.

Then as for the actual channel, an Lt or Commander should tell people what channel to join. Even say it every so often with food/oil/stones/crystal check in Team chat.

Perhaps, but if the person wanted to have that it would have made sense in stating that to start with. The way I felt it was for all players within x range of an objective.

If you really want to buff players, add stat buffing to outnumbered and add a new condition that is permanent until the outnumbered buff drops on whoever you outnumber. The stats for it could be -200 or -300 toughness, -200 vitality, -200 or -300 condition damage, -200 or -300 power, etc.

Theoretically, this would limit servers like CD and JQ from stacking a match on borderlands and EBG because they would be adversely affected by the overnumbered negative condition buff. Example, FA was grossly outnumbered on EBG with only like 5 defenders to JQ’s blob of 10 on keep, 5 or more harassing the towers. Outnumbered buff was on but it did nothing to entice us to keep defending or even help us to defend. And JQ had enough that even with losing -200 points on ALL stats they would had still likely wiped us. Yet, it would still help make an incentive for those trying to defend to defend as best as they can.

Meh, just my perspective. I normally don’t like kittening or power creep, but I’m wondering now why they ever made outnumbered buff, which doesn’t even buff.

I don’t care honestly… WvW is full of powercreeping already by having Nourishments, ascended gear with infusions, bloodlust, etc… A bit more stats here and there is the minor of my problems.

And most of all the WvW guilds already claim almost all the objectives giving the boosts that way too… and we have all the keep presences and all too… Its a bit like, “What to buff now…” mentality in my opinion.

I kind of don’t want to see more power creeping, not saying it negatively impacts anything. Just doesn’t seem necessary any more because its everywhere in WvW.

Hay here is a glider idea that would make a bit of real world meets Tyria/HoT world. Make the glider be related to like a wing suit, except be more of under the arms and maybe ribbed like a toxic kraits fins or like the wing/arms of the wyverns are. I know a few details that need to be ironed out, but we wouldn’t need to flap them just extend the arms out and the fins open up.

Copter glider — rotating helicopter blades at the top of a pole popping up out of the backpack. Would be an awesome glider for engineers.

They have one similar to that in the glider selection thing. Its like a drone with 4 prop rotors but in this case its spirals… called Glide-r-Tron

sorry to say this man, but a “good” condition thief will destroy most ele/tempests. Especially if they know when to use head shot, if it is landed often, it is gg for the ele.

To be fair there are variations of condi-thief that do use off hand pistol. My variation uses p/p and sb. SB is the main weapon and p/p is for utility.

Yeah like me when I come against those that think they can stunt lock me from doing anything in D/D or P/P. The skill stun breaks and even having the trait stunt break that happens every 30 secs automatically, works wonders.

My only issue is rangers when running my hybrid condi thief in WvW. I don’t think I’d rely on stealth theif builds for PvP, but usually people make the mistake of moving trying to kill me in fights, when that happens torment can be nice with confusion hitting them too.

Just it all depends on who and their skill level in fighting any form condi class, especially condi thieves.

Any tips for successfully casting Overloads?

Get a part of the guardian/warrior stab rotation and use it is one alternative. Second is to start it before you get near the center of the fight and do it..

Here though is a harder one…
- For Overload Air, you can tie it in with Lightning Flash. That is start Overload Air and count to like 2 or 3, then teleport to the location you want using Lightning Flash and it will drop its AoE lightning circle there.

- The same applies to Overload Water and Overload Fire, but you don’t need to count for those. Just start it in a safe area and teleport into the fray.

NOTE: survivability of this is all dependent on how well you can support yourself and others when you do it with all the AoE circles that are usually in a large zerg area.

Is there a good ice dps build for pve?

Elementalists are elementalists in the end and not some type of fire or ice mages.

This hasn’t really been true since the introduction of tempest. There are very good builds that focus mostly on one attunement. The top dps build uses only fire (plus ice bow). The other meta dps build is 85% air 15% fire. The staff heal build is almost entirely water

And in WvW if in a zerg you’ll spend about 75% of the time likely in water for heals when doing zerg v zerg fights. While most commanders will want you to be going through other damage dealing and stun based attacks from fire and air the rest of the time… In this regard, focusing on water helps but you still need to find a happy medium between healing and cc and survivability.

But yeah I’m waiting to see more people running pure anti condi builds now to come out. We know its going to happen cause Reaper and Necro arent’ the only condi players that spam conditions… So too do shatter condi mesmers and others as well.

I’m already seeing more and more people having the resistance things orbiting them… Its rather annoying… but just wait for the resistance to fall and condi them down while they try to cleanse.

Also be careful, non damaging conditions like Fear, Blind, Chill, Immobilize (ranger version)… all can cause damage. Ranger’s immobilizing elite is a nice little damage, but not true condi damage.

On Reaper/Necro I have my blinds feeding my Deathly Chill damage. As in I blind you, I also put a 1.5 second chill damage on you that ticks twice actually.

My fear is a two hit 900 damage condi too…

Then add into that I can stack vulnerability and all other damaging conditions on someone… I can kill with conditions, I’ve had around a 9k tick total just from Dhumm Fire, Vulnerabilities, Chills and Poison on a person… Gone higher with the Bleeds but they require a lot of effort to keep up time. I probably was higher than 9k…

A way to combat eye strain, which I had when I first started using triple monitors. I had to get a back lights to light the wall behind the monitors enough to make the transition not so harsh. Now, I rarely have any issue, unless I have a fan or something on now blowing in my general area.

You could have someone send you 10 messages, filling up your queue causing no more messages to ever be displayed. Not exactly what you want but a possible workaround.

There is a way… But no one will talk to the original poster…

Pull up the Friend List area, and change your status from green (online) to grey (offline)… No one can whisper you then, this can have detrimental effects in other areas of the game, so I would be very cautious in using it excessively.

I block and report the gold sellers, and I rarely get them contacting me once I block two or three of their accounts. Yet, I’ve used the Offline status method to hide from many people when I don’t want to be bothered.

New Stat - Lifesteal

We should probably have 1 or 2 less stats, not more.

I’ve often wondered how sPvP would be if ANet, made everyone use skills that drawed from a mana pool and everyone had only 4 stats that they could put points into. Vitality (HP), Mana, Defense (which includes healing, but not really armor as it is right now), and Crit chance.

Every player would have 80 points to put into these 4 stats. Putting too much in one would make any points beyond 30 or 40 difference from the highest and lowest stats be null and void. Therefore, forcing a balance of sorts while not forcing people to run a specific balance. All other stats are not even viewable by players and are defaulted to the same rating no matter profession and armor tier grade.

And yeah, this would make things like Lifesteal attribute the OP’er wanted null and void. And get rid of the tanky and super DPS stats in amulets and runes. Meh… I know they won’t likely do it, but one can dream.

Right now 2.806% chance of getting rolled in T2. Last week it was 3.0 <something> chance and you got lucky to get to T2 early. More than likely your next matchup next week will be Stormbluff Isle and Maguuma.

NOTE: this changes throughout the week so keep checking it, but you won’t get to like 100% like blackgate and T1 servers are in staying in T1 or staying in T2 for some time.

As title says.

We knocked SOS out of a t2 spot for last week for the first time in forever. SOS typically loses their t2 matches by a large margin.

DB WON in T2.

SOS moves back up and DB moves back down into ZZZ t3 matchup.

Because SoS easily beat T3. Their Glicko… however its spelled… got upped higher… check it on http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups

You all are like 1840 glicko score… They are 1880 something glicko score. TC and FA are still in the 1900s…

So even though FA and TC let you all win, just saying… that one week. You’re own server’s glicko score didn’t improve enough to keep you in T2. You had a big chance of losing T2 at the next match up… And as of right now, its about a 2.8% chance or so of being back in T2 with a matchup of FA and TC.

I have access to servers that sport some of the fastest small scale processors (both Xeon and Extreme). The multi CPU system had over a terabyte of RAM and some of the fastest SSD cards available. GW2 runs the same there as well. Seems GW2 is poor at multi-threading as well. I would not be surprised if older duo core CPUs run GW2 as well as modern processors.

It is something I noticed too, and friends that run 8 core AMD chips, notice as well. Coding wise, the game’s code really isn’t optimized for multi-threading. Sorry devs. I’ve done class projects that use 4, 6, and 8 threads on my processor and you really notice the difference and that was graduate school. GW2, isn’t really designed to run anything beyond 3 threads simultaneously it seems. Processor performance often is only at 30 to 45%. It should be 50+ if it was using all of them. And even then when you look at the way the in game effects and all occur, it sort of demonstrates how they aren’t really using CPU that efficiently and also, effectively. Although 64-bit version of the client does seem a bit better tuned than the original 32 bit.

The graphics card and the processor usage though has me thinking… Why isn’t the game any better graphically? Also, a friend of mine has 2 graphics cards in SLI and I get the same performance if not a tad bit better with my single card setup. And yeah, small form factor case that only permits 1 graphics card so can’t test it with any dual or triple card setups.

My two cents on this. Sorry ANet if this hurts some…

GW2 has a poor story line. It has a lot of little issues that would not be there if the game was balanced in the first place. The game’s community can be good at times, and it can be uber toxic at other times. For proof, go to T2 server on some of the bad commanders that can get a lot of people following them, but often humiliate and use profanity a lot in teamspeak. Other times, the community is helpful and actually help teach others things. And the allowing people to play whatever they want is nice, but restricting you to the same race that you created the character on is down right disappointing to me.

I find GW2 did some things though right: no gear creep, not forcing content, allowing to play any roles you want (yet, detrimental if you are using it for healing and not Ele or druid). And well… that’s about it on the positive side. Oh and not forcing PvE and/or PvP. I like that. I hate it in AION back when it launched where it forced open world PvP. I also hate it in modern AION when it basically makes end game all about PvP. I mean its basically the only thing to do of interest at endgame in AION.

I still like TERA (but hate the gear creep, and the elitism). I still like Blade and Soul, but don’t prefer to play it but it has a better storyline, that I first learned when it was Korean only. I still like WoW, but hate its interface…

So why do I play GW2? It has just grown on me… And is the more cost effective game out there since its not forcing me to do any sort of subscription stuff.

Self heals don’t count in a team situation. that means that the person has to stop doing damage to self heal that’s a half a second or longer of no damage. That ruins the DPS burst rotation

Rev Ventari, Ele Water, and Druid staff set, means very little damage if any being doing to help the DPS race. Therefore a determent to the group when you’re in a DPS race.

How do you play with your mouse?

Yeah with my setup F1-F5 is Ctrl + 1-5… That way you can use the MMO mouse to do all that… and in GW2 ‘=’ key is set to toggle action camera so that I can toggle it on and off on my mouse.

Also the scroll wheel when pushed is used to stow my weapons so I can fake cast some skills like signets and a few shouts.

and on Logitech MMO mouse you have an extra right mouse button, that can be keyed to act like Ctrl key.

Also use the Action Camera. I use to keep up with the Mesmer and attack them when they come out of stealth.

ANet sorta nerf’d the dragon, centaur and turtle banners… They reduced cata costs slightly, and fixed proof of heroics… and fixed exploits that people were doing in mid air… and fixed issues with glitched walls, and made the Oasis PVE event easier…

They didn’t really fix anything to the root core of WvW though. The same issues that were around in 2014 when I started playing WvW, still exist.

You make good points but isn’t that actually the idea?

The concept of making “harder content” while keeping a traditional “easy mode” ritualistic behavior is self-defeating. The simplest solution to the problem is to just lower the boss HP and raise the potential of death by causing the boss to target characters in the order of least to greatest armor or at least pursue a character voraciously at random for a set amount of time with a barrage of truly deadly attacks.

I actually cannot figure out why they even have toughness in the game half the time.

Exactly. I hate talking about games I rarely play anymore, but in TERA, I use to run with “elitist” there as I was the only tank they found that could keep agro longer than most when they did their huge damage bursts. It was a pain in the… but yeah…

I had to spam all my agro skills the instant they were off cooldown and keep tapping the boss with auto attack while the agro skills were on cooldown to maintain agro against the high damage +12 glowing red DPS’ers could do to the boss. The healer didn’t have to heal much, just keep up the damage buffs for the DPS’ers.

If they did their burst faster than I could stack agro, the highest DPS’er got agro and it would take about a minute or so before I fully got agro back.

In GW2, its sad that ANet has fallen back on this as well. I mean seriously it doesn’t matter who tanks. But all others run zerker or high damage gear. And boom… Sucks.

Yes – the guild upgrades are another factor.
I mean I go into wvw – we’re maybe 10, the other 40 – I try to do something half-heartedly and leave again as it’s no use. Server merge right now would only prolong the dying – or maybe make it even faster – I don’t want to be merged with some of my ex servers

This could explain why they aren’t dealing with WvW in force yet. Even from January 26 patch, they sort of half-heartedly fixed some things, but not really dealt with the core root problems with WvW and/or the guild set up it has.

Yes, its was easier before but now it has its advantages. Tactics make a whole new level for guilds and WvW for example.

I wasn’t aware that a reaper using the chill tactic would damage players with it but thats clearly something broken about it and should be fixed asap.

This is just a balance issue wich doesn’t mean that tactics are wrong but bad balanced.

Get on a cannon as a reaper with deathly chill, shoot number 3 skill at something. It does chill damage…

Use flame rams or superior flame rams and the number 2 skill… It’ll fear the guards and players and so forth… If traited for it as a necromancer or reaper, it will do a 1k per tick fear damage condition too.

Broken? NOPE! unexpected result yes.

OH try the poison and bleeds with any other class and have them change gear from power to condi damage to power, you’ll see that power gear will actually do very little condi damage from arrow carts and cannons and mortars. I’ve not tried treb yet. In condi damage gear, even the bleeds and poisons and burns from mortar, AC and cannons are increased.

General answer would be: Don’t try to 1v1 Reaper unless you are good Scrapper maybe. Druids do all right in that 1v1 as long as Reaper doesn’t have too much life force at start. Thieves do okay.

In teamfights it hasn’t changed much. Old focus Necro strat.

I’d say best counter to Reaper is another Reaper and it revolves around Plague Signet use and who opens first.

Corrupt on scepter auto isn’t even a big deal, tbh.

Thieves on a tanky condi reaper is funny. It makes me want to laugh when I see one trying to kill me alone. Yet, a thief working with anyone to fight me would be annoying in WvW and almost a definite win for them.

And in sPvP, the focus on necro first makes it so that I prefer going to a point last things. Just to avoid that initial focus, yet I often use spectral armor when focused on just to refill life force fast. Thanks all that do that you really help me recharge reaper shroud uber fast.

And as for Reaper vs Reaper, its a matter of who starts in reaper shroud first and how much life force both reapers have and if the Reaper using death magic and minions to increase armor if a power reaper is fighting them. In my case, I run a chill condi tank based one in WvW and well, keeping my sPvP one secret… Lets just say, I find that if the reaper goes to RS before I do, I will likely kill them. If I go before they do, they will likely win against me. Its been the case in WvW and some sPvP matches over the last 10 to 20 reaper encounters I’ve had.

Note: I’m not a big sPvP player, so most of my dueling and all come from fighting in WvW.

Yes, because anet wanted to destroy blobs and did that with buffing blobs. So it’s really hard to win a fight with a smaller group. It still is possible with a major effort but it was easier back in the day. As long as that stays as it is people will leave and servers will become smaller. If you make skill count again, then you give smaller groups a reason to stay. That is easier said than done, I know. But I’m certain that wvw will die no matter how many servers you merge if you leave the mechanics like they are.

We both agree on that it will die no matter what happens to population solution that ANet comes out with. All because of the blob mechanics and because of the guild mechanics too.

I know a lot of players that stopped playing WvW and even left the game cause of the guild hall and having to need it for guild upgrades and needing to spend so much gold and time to just get to level 37 for something as simple as +5.

There’s a flaw in your logic. ANet never specifically wanted to get RID of healer’s and tanks, it just wanted every class to be able to do most anything.

Example they used way back when was an Elementalist swapping to Water Attunement to provide healing for the group.

The goal they set out to achieve wasn’t to get rid of tanks/healers per se, but to make it so X class isn’t REQUIRED to perform Y role in a group.

Explain Druid then?

Explain why there so many ways to make tanks of Scrappers, Reapers, Necros, Guards, Warriors, and others…

Explain why healing on classes like Reaper/Necro is almost non-existent (yeah, use blood magic, but its still not as effective as Ele’s staff water and Druid)… And thieves don’t even have heals that are even worth using for party use?

They actually made the trinity show up in Raids and all.

Until people start to quit again.
I’ve been on gold EU 1-2 months ago and the coverage wasn’t that much different than in bronze or silver EU. But some have night cappers, others don’t. And yes some servers are still better when it comes to zerg fights.
There might be too many servers, but I would first fix what’s making people quit wvw before merging.

I would say on NA, maybe… But I found on Darkhaven that people were out matched by Emery Bay and Maguuma and would just leave instead of going to the tag to play after getting wiped once. I found this to be the case on lower tier servers too. It is down right sad. You don’t see it as often on T1 and T2, but meh…

And yeah, some don’t like blob v blob fights… so they would likely leave WvW if that occurred.

Why throw matches in unranked?

I was not clear in my initial post: The other team completely threw the match. They stood around and let my team win. It was a guild team, they all had the same tag. What do they get out of it?

Less playing time on a losing/unfun match? More time communicating and socialising == having fun? More fun matches?

These guys were clearly better than us. They could have won. They threw the match almost immediately.

They could had thrown it cause one member was AFK?

They may had thrown it cause they just wanted to try some sort of new something?

They may have thrown it cause a few members were dealing with guild issues?

Personally, there too many possibilities here. Yet, I have noticed in solo queuing that it MMR seems to be affecting matches even in Unranked. Not sure why… but it just seems it when looking at history of matches.

Enemies grabbing real estate while their opposition has troops in play is one thing. Enemies grabbing real estate while there’s no opposition is just crap. It’s not the same as people asking for opposition (prime time) when they play, it’s asking for an easier game. It’s up to the devs to fix this by either a) setting up limits to how many people can queue into WvW so that the sides are more evenly balanced, b) give the “nightcappers” weighted points based on the opposition on the map – zero opposition means zero points, c) build more servers to accommodate more time zones.

d) reduce the number of servers to a hand full and they play against each other. Example, T7 and T8 have about the population of 2 T2 servers put together. That would be two servers… And do the same for T4 – T6 servers as well. This would make it so that the fights are a bit more fairer and that there would likely be more coverage and people to play with all the time.

That’s not the issue.

The issue is when you knowingly use them in ways like having a reaper with “Deathly Chill” pull Chilling Fog. That’s crazy damage and hurts people way too much. Having things like Banners and other devices run impacted by the character using them build? That’s stupid design.

Also the cost to maintain the Tactics is a pain… too. I mean, look at T6 server for instance. They can put tactics on and lose them in like 24hours, then replace the tactics… Same applies to T2 servers, but in one particular case a week or so ago, the over use and abuse of emergency waypoints, and airship bombardment… and the over use of dragon and other banners. I mean wow. Yes, they nerfed banners some, but they still over used… Good grief.

Yes, you can avoid pretty much all their attacks, but its a pain… for new players and for those that don’t fully understand how they work. I can dodge them and in fact love the conditions that dragon banner gives me cause I consume it for healing. However, its annoying.

In the past, even small guilds could be helpful and claim things for +5 supply and they were really nothing that cause the game to feel highly unbalanced. Now, its all about how much money and time people want to put into it and make the upgrades to use for tactics. It didn’t add a new elements to WvW, it made WvW into a who has the most tactics activated and what tactics. The old WvW was more about skill and planning. The new one is not… I am actually starting to find it boring when in the old system I found it interesting almost always.

So hard in fact it’s only feasible to achieve by larger guilds, which has in turn caused a large portion of the smaller, organized WvW teams to stop playing the format or the game entirely because of how grossly expensive and time-consuming the process is. Fighting out-gunned went from allowing some amount of freedom and cohesive play to be rewarded to quite literally disadvantageous and slower in every way.

Yes I’m in such guilds too. We all were highly effective before HoT and guild halls. Yet, now it sucks. Most members actually haven’t logged on since the week after HoT. Why? I can only imagine its cause they saw how expensive it would be for us to level up to even gain the ability to claim objectives… I don’t even like farming and doing all that to make such upgrades possible. It was a lot easier when guild influence meant something cause we could have all the WvW upgrades waiting for when we wanted to use them and it only require time and some gold to get the influence since we couldn’t make enough fast enough to keep some buffs up 24/7.

Stats are buffed in spawn, aren’t they? I guess it would have to be in spawn keep or something. I like the idea tho!

They would be buffed too cause of the people claiming things like they do now… +100 or +200 Power would change everything badly. Same for precision and so forth.

I would recommend just going to some camp and solo’ing it. It isn’t like you have stacks anymore for fortitude and power. It isn’t like WvW mastery skills affect anything. Just the world buffs that reset on reset.

I test my builds out in PvE and in solo’ing objectives like camps and towers. Just try to pay attention to the damage floaters and look back through your outgoing damage log.

And I’m glad there really isn’t any official damage meter in the game.

Ah… so wondering if I should just go yolo and get the 980

980 is much better than 960, but i don’t think that it makes that much difference in gw2. Funniest part is that these new GPUs and CPUs are total kitten. Before when you did buy new 200-300€ GPU you got huge boost compared your old GPU, but nowadays these budget models aren’t any faster than some 2-3 years old models.
I tried to buy used gtx760 or gtx780 when my hd 7850 stopped working, but it’s kind of risk buy 2-3 year old used gpu.

I’ve had the 970 and the 980, currently use 980. GW2, barely uses its potential even at 1440p. I play at 1080p. I am getting like just loads from 150 to 80%, yet it never really maxes out and I use the reference card from Nvidia. I use to play on GTX760 192bit OEM. It was a nice difference yes. But in all honesty, didn’t really see much difference in quality of graphics over the 970 or 980. It just way more quieter now.

I would recommend getting 970 if you don’t play many other games, but the 980 doesn’t have the memory flaw, so if you play high res games or games with way more complex graphics than GW2, then yeah… You’ll definitely want it. And if you want good future proofing 980 or 980Ti is a plus.

Note my system is a i7 4770s, 16GB RAM, GTX 980 reference card. Had tested GW2, AION, WoW, SWTOR, CSGO, and a few single player games with GTX 760 OEM, GTX 970, ATI R7 270, GTX 980. I like the 980 best.

This is why I’m starting to spend less time in WvW. I see people from the enemy servers taking the time when most of the players on my server are offline, and take most if not everything. It sucks and is a down right bummer.

It would basically mean that people need to be in WvW 24/7 and that is impossible. Yet, I hope they fix this population issue soon. However being on T2 and T1 servers, I noticed they have some down time too. In those cases, its not as bad as it is on T6 – T8 servers. Yet, wow… We need to have all servers have roughly even if not equal coverage all the time. Then you’d do like T1 and T2 have often, zerg vs. zerg fights…

Actually its kinda counter intuitive. What if the whole group went in as zerker gear and absolutely nothing toughness and all use the same profession?

Hello to bad design.

I know ANet was trying their best to keep GW2 from having the holy trinity or the quad-role version (Tank, healer, dps, caster/hybrid). Yet, in reality raids basically gave this. And its not just the raids, some other open world PvE content bosses (the ones with the bull head/horns over them) often agro on a person too that has high toughness or higher toughness than others. Its what I notice when I’m using minion master with Flesh of the Master trait. I can easily get to top of the toughness in open world content.

I avoid using minions in raid content. Yet I found that just having tanky gear of Minstrel or Trailblazer gear, can make me top it over any other player too In Minstrel as Druid, you kind of don’t want to get hurt yet you also want others to tank Bad combination. Try it in trailblazer, and its just as bad if you aren’t wanting to tank. Hence why people run multiple armors.

The developers could have just made it so that the boss randomly targets some one every so many seconds, this would make the game more of what it was originally trying to be. And yet, they didn’t.

Didn’t they get rid of the dungeon team. I also heard anet is trying to get people away from dungeons and move them towards fotm and raids.

Yeah they are moving them away from dungeons to raid and fractal content. However, dungeons still needed for a lot of little things. This is leading to problems as many people had preferred to run dungeons and now fewer and fewer dungeons are even having LFG active.

FotM isn’t something a lot run, yet a lot ran dungeons way too much. So why did they start doing this focus on FotM and Raid content?
