I’d go for soul reaping and change up between death magic and curses…
Why SR? you can get burns on RS1 skill, and when combined with Deathly Chill and the whirls from RS4 and the frost armor from RS2, and the RS2 being a boon converter if you use curses or kitten being a fear that can actually do good damage 1k per tick and often hits for 2 ticks since you should have condition duration increased by armor and trinkets… it will do nice damage.
I change up curses and death magic and blood magic for what the situations I’m going to encounter are.
For me curses is my normal build for the scepter having nice condition damage boost and for blinds also chilling foes, and fears causing damage as well.
I use death magic when I just want to play around with minions or when I need to do something that I can’t easily do myself. Minions often take agro and all from me, which is a plus for solo’ing some things.
I use blood magic when I need to heal others. I know its not meta or anything, but even a reaper’s healing can help druids and ele’s out some in keeping others alive in WvW.
The choose though to all this is yours. I run with curses, soul reaping and reaper most times, but like I said, that curses trait-line can change to anything else but spite. I don’t like spite as its not really helpful it seems unless you’re a power reaper.
I main necro :P just giving my PoV. Feels strong to me but that could be because of the boon heavy builds that everyone else runs. Could be like Oslaf said and once the Meta shifts away from boon heavy builds a bit I won’t feel like how I do now. Ive been here through the good and bad of necros just doing a bit of self reflection is all! XD and like I said I love the new changes to necros. Been Necromancer since GW1! Your talking to an elder here people!! :P
That is generally the case. I notice even on my own server in WvW, that everyone pop all their boons first thing then wonder why all the conditions afterwards. I’ve told them best way to do this is pop them in battle as needed not first thing.
But yeah I main necro too. I remember how the previous meta worked too. At first it seemed like Druid, Dragonhunter and Chronomancer shatter burst were super-meta. Then people figured out counters and it became bunker pirate ship builds. I expect the same to happen with this meta as well. Right now to some necros and reapers are too strong, they even complain about other classes too. However, the meta will self adjust after a month or so and no one will care about condition pressure being too much.
That’s the thing about the way GW2 has unbalance built into it to create those META builds. If it was like other games, then they would be no point in complaining about balance cause it would likely be completely balanced.
Save them if you think you’ll use them otherwise use that salvage thing and maybe sell the items from it… http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_Recycling not like its really that expensive, but maybe…
This is a very good game for altoholics simply because it is easy to level up and due to the wardrobe system and makeover kits it is also easy to make them exactly the way you want them.
A friend of mine has like 8 different Elementalists characters, all with different builds and most are different species, one for each species and like 3 of her favorite species. I was like wow, why? Then I learned how easy it is to do and well… It gives you something to do in the game when you start to get bored of it.
If you play a lot of Counterstrike, League, TF2, games that run at 144+ FPS easily it can be worth it but if you want nicer pictures IPS is the way to go
GW2 doesn’t seem to benefit though from anything over 60 fps. I mean from my experience in WvW and in PvE content. Maybe there is an advantage in true PvP, in sPvP maps.
I’d go for the IPS if you don’t play first person shooters like CSGO a lot. Better colors and better performance from many games. Not many games I’ve played really went beyond 70 to 90 fps. So to me the cost of 90 to 144 limit, wasn’t worth it.
There places in sPvP to duel, namely in private arena rooms… If you’re guild has an arena, then you also have that option.
I find dueling in WvW to be problematic and at the same time sort of quasi-pay2win. You can find those dueling areas in the BLs and around SMC, just don’t go up and attack SMC. just camp around waiting. Duelers seem to always show up.
In WvW, the reason I say quasi p2w, is because I’ve constantly had people ask me if I was using ascended gear cause they claim to be able to down an exotic player faster than they can me. I admit I’m tanky, but I’m not that tanky. But if you notice things like they claimed to notice, then its probably that the person has that 5% boost in gear stats. Its not really worth it, but that’s 5% you wouldn’t haven’t without it.
Edge of the Mists is still my favourite way to level up. I started a new Necro on Monday, got to 80 a few hours ago. I didn’t use boosts at all. However, you need to be on a tier 1 server for that (we win zerg fights 95% of the time and always have a commander).
The original poster asked about crafting though.
However, if you have the gold and/or the materials, crafting even without boosts is fastest form of leveling in the game short of having 80 tomes and just spamming them.
The next fastest varies, EotM is okay if you have a good map every time. That’s not always the case unfortunately. Do not try WvW, cause you’ll end up getting downed really easily even though you’re upped leveled to quasi-80… you won’t stand a match against any 80 geared in anything like rare or higher gear.
The other next fastest one, would be just doing all map completions. Start with the starter cities, and do the starter zones then just pick one area and do like all the maps in that area. Say Kryta, doing all the maps would get you to 50 or 60 and likely get you there in a day. I mean 2 hours per map is generally what it takes me sometimes to complete them, that’s 5 maps, so 10 hours… maybe longer since you’d be at level though. but still 10 to 15 hours, and to ~50-60, you should be able to get to 80 in 48 hours of game play or so.
I mean really it doesn’t take a lot of time to level, what takes time is all the grinding for mats and such.
Yeah, that maybe the case, Donari. But still they should provide the option for people. I mean you could have rotting torn membranes like the Tequatl wings have, but be a glider. Yet, they didn’t even do that or bring back the Tequatl wings so people can get it that weren’t around in boss week.
In WoW you had low level raids, medium level, hard level, then hardcore (heroic 25mans). Granted most of that was tied in with a gear treadmill.
In all honesty there is no reason Anet cannot adopt a similar system with what we currently have for raids.
They can still adopt it… just need to nerf the mechanics and bosses of the current raid… release it as Spirit Vale (normal mode). And have it where like WoW and SWTOR and TERA, you can get account bound drops that only drop from there and the drops are required to make you’re legendary (insert armor/weapon/back item/trinket name here) item. I mean seriously…
We already have a gear grind of sorts with people grinding for Ravenmore and the other legendaries now. Why not just add that sort of change. They wouldn’t even need to make spirit vale 3 different difficulties. But if they did, then even more reason for people to stick with the game and “Grind”. Look at all the people at 100 and higher mastery level, talk about grinding… Look at all the WvW players over 1k rank… Wow!… Just give people more reason to grind by adding difficulty levels to current and future raids.
Even do it for the dungeons, though the dungeons in a way have it with explorable mode, but it could be better…
Kay, any thoughts on fire salsa? I’ve seen some guilds lay it out before. Is it better for pub groups and smaller scale fights that aren’t done by coordinated fight groups? 5-15 vs 5-15 kinda thing? I mean like leading a group of strangers with basic text and symbol coordination against enemy roamers of similar size.
I’ve not tried Fire salsa in WvW, its almost always shunned cause by the time you’re downed, you’re likely also getting focused on. I mean, in T2 and T6, when we get one or more downed, the whole zerg swarms them… so the +100% downed health
+20% damage while downed would be kinda pointless.
Though the 100% downed health is nice, you should be avoiding being downed in the first place. A group of 5 can fight a group of 15, you just have to play smarter and use siege and objectives to your advantage.
well best class doesnt mean highest dps and ofc doesnt mean highest self dps but if u aiming for self dps i think ele and engi are ok
This goes for all aspects of the game, the best doesn’t necessarily need to be anything in the highest like you said. It can even be how it plays in a group…
I’ve seen some people recommend a friend of mine play a class that I find weak, before the buffs, Thief. Not for venom share at first, though that came after. But cause he could do things that none of us could do cause we didn’t know how to time the movements and skills as accurately. Yet all he played was thief so he had gotten really good at it. Sadly he never got HoT and since left the game
So as everyone said, Play what you like the most and what you are the most good at. no matter the game mode. Few people may complain, but as long as you’re not super glass and getting hurt a lot, no one really cares. The beauty of not having any DPS meters in the game for calculating party dps.
As many said, its a common problem in all games with raids of any size. People take it to be elite only and needing this and that coordination, its a big turn off to most.
What would have made more sense is like a few said, make easy and hard modes like games like TERA and SWTOR do for raid like dungeons and raids themselves. Just cause its easy mode doesn’t mean you can get by without knowing some of the mechanics, but it doesn’t mean its near impossible to pug or duo/trio. Then in the hard mode, new mechanics show up, basically Spirit Vale as it is right now. This would mean that the bosses and everything have tons more health and do more complex attacks.
The thing is, I really don’t think anyone likes doing the raids as it currently is. Well, all but a few of the GW2 population that is. Where in other games, their major incentives to do raids and spam the dungeons and raid dungeons constantly. GW2 has no such incentive. So why LFR for raids when its just a hard mode dungeon that requires too much (for some) coordination.
We just need a quick-use slot, like most other MMOs have. Just press F3 or F4 and you use it.
That would be nice, but for many classes that be setting it to F6 or F7… so make the hot keys for it be anything… I’m surprised though that they never gave us any additional bar slots in the last 3+ years.
I noticed there is the deathwish staff, and undead armor scepter, and lich outfit and lich armor skins, and even the shadow of grenth backpack item. Yet there isn’t any real glider skin other than bat/demon wings to continue this theme.
Can you possibly make a glider that is based on the deathwish staff theme… If that is too much work, could you take and reskin the Batwings and remove the membrane to make them truly skeletal wings.
I know that not just necromancers and reapers, but others that like the dark themes would love this… <3
Please come out with these.
if you are on a good server, or on when your server does night capping, go to WvW and use an experience booster there. You can rank up in WvW a lot to get most of all the proofs if not all of them in a few hours. Varies highly since its all dependent on server and time takes to capture something.
If you are on a good map for EotM you can do the same there too. It all depends.
Hello there I just came back and wanted to get an ele to 80, but don’t have that much fime to explore around. Question is, does crafting still get me to 80 faster? And how much gold would it be?
Thanks
Use two experience boosts, and do from level 0 to 400 in all 8 crafts (not in Scribe), yes… It’ll take you about 3 or 4 hours without using any tomes. If you have at least 30 tombs, you can get it done in under 3 hours easily.
I’d recommend using http://gw2crafts.net/total.html (Use the fast guides when possible if you can afford it)
It varies how much it will cost, but often around 250 gold is enough to get all the crafts to 400… at the time of this post its at 221 gold.
You may want to make a few 500 level, but anything from 400 to 500 is rather expensive.
WvW is about strategy? Oh wow… learned something new… Here I was always seeing it as tactics and operations, not true strategy.
WvW isn’t about strategy, on anything short of and including T1 servers on NA, its not about strategy. Buy a RTS and play it, better yet buy an MMO RTS and play it, you don’t assault things like southern towers or defend them unless you are just playing tactics and for experience. If you were truly playing for strategy you’d windle down the supply camps, then aim for the major threat Garri/Earth Keep/Rampart. Whatever you want to call it. Don’t worry about your spawn keep or the opposite side’s spawn keep for that borderland until after.
Yet, this is not really the case is it? In 3 weeks of being on T2, I’ve only seen any commander take the enemy’s garri twice. Why? No one really cares about strategy, its all about the points and the ease and time it takes to get them. Hence all focus on towers, camps and bay/fire keep and air/hills keep. Nothing else unless in EB then its SMC and its not for the tactical or strategic advantage it offers, its all for the points.
we’ve not even heard of ANet even thinking about this.
Not totally true. First time I saw ANet accepting the presence and problematic of Night Capping:
""We recognize that there are areas that can be made better.
…
Hand in hand with population imbalance is scoring. The current scoring structure allows scores to run away, a problem that is compounded with night capping where it is possible for a team who has recruited players from different time zones to conquer everything in off-hours leading to one side getting ahead while most players are asleep or at work. Comebacks are difficult and it is hard to make up for that lost time that you spend on your real life needs."
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-Invitational-Statement-from-John-Corpening-game-director-for-World-vs-World/first
and there was https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Scoring-Discussion as 1 of the 2 mayor input for the overhaul. (The other was https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Solution-to-fix-the-population-imbalance)
That’s one place, yet repeatedly in guild chats even in that one with “all the ‘cool’ WvW updates” recently… blah… that they are focusing on other things and not population issues right now. If they came out today in the next 5 minutes and said, “Yes, we are changing servers and WvW population issues, and that we’ll be discussing it this week’s guild chat” I’d be like WOOT! FINALLY!…
But I’ve learned to take everything said by them in proportions of what is true and what they are just saying to get the masses to think they are listening. I’ve yet to see anything that says they are even trying to make it better, let alone that they really care enough to do the hard steps necessary to fix the issue with population and server nightcaps. Until then, I’m pretty sure they’ll be like… “Okays they aren’t talking about nightcapping lets focus on ESports league…”
But all the ranting and bad attitude aside. The course they are on, we’ll likely be having this discussion again in 2017 or by then WvW will be gone for good… Meh… seems they focus more in PvP and PvE than WvW.
It varies for me. I play the classes I do cause I am interested in something at the time that is related to that class. However, its not cause I’m having fun or anything.
When I truly think I am having fun is when I managed to solo something or helped duo something that I thought was outside of my skill range. This means, yes its almost always something PvE oriented, even the tower and keep lords in WvW to me count as PvE. When it comes to fighting other players, its never something I find fun. I’m often too busy to even think about having fun then.
Although a few times, I will say I have had fun in PK ways. Its mostly when I know someone isn’t skilled with their character to combat/counter anything I can do. I’ll end up toying with them… and acting like they are actually causing damage to me, when the whole time I can fully heal anything they give. I know trolling them in a way, but to me its fun watching them try even if they didn’t have a chance. With WvW now having PPK (points per kill), I don’t generally toy too much anymore. Thanks ANet for ruining my fun time in WvW roaming.
The Stronghold map is just too small and too simplistic is the big issue. There really isn’t that much depth or strategy in the game mode because there really isn’t much of a purpose to winning a fight or rotating the map when you can just summon things to do the work for you.
This is why I prefer conquest maps. I have some guild mates of mine that will not even group up unless Stronghold is unchecked, cause of how much they don’t like its play style.
Nightcapping ruins fighting morale for the rest of the servers and makes people shun WvW altogether, when people turn away from something due to nightcapping (Which is a fact, like it or not) then yes, it does become a problem.
It shows when your server is stronger and weaker too. Not all tiers have 24/7 coverage, T6-T8 are this way and they do night capping when the other server falls asleep. The funny thing is it happens at odd times for each server, so to say that its something that can be fixed with the current system… No, it can’t
Solution would be to get rid of all the servers, and make something like mega server or dedicated server alliances like each reset, you get RNG to play out for what server will be green, red, blue… and they all get group together in various instances of the same map. This then would make the buffs from WvW for the servers make no sense, so they will likely not do that.
People have been asking for the lower tier servers to be merged together to make up for the night capping on lower tier servers, but they’ve been asking for this since when? The last year or longer, and we’ve not even heard of ANet even thinking about this.
Or they could buff stability in WvW and nerf chill skills a kitten
ills aren’t the only skills that can immo. Looking at a fight log just recently, its all about what they used, they used everything from entangling vines, to skills that I’m not sure what class used. I know that they weren’t Elementalist nor Necro/Reaper. Even my stability was ripped off in a matter of 2 seconds when they dropped their initial bomb.
For the original poster, a counter to this, is baiting the bomb. Let them throw out all their high damage and CC skills, most people do that out right on the first push without any planning. Once they down you at least have from 10 to 60 seconds to push again before they back off cooldown. I know, not a lot of time, but you can push and wipe many of them then at least that was the case in some blob v. blob fights I’ve done.
Same with maps I run when there full maps and the guild group runs them. They’ll drop frontline food (Saffron bread) and backline food, which varies based on composition.
I like Saffron bread myself cause the condition duration reduction seems to stack with the antitoxin runes. They give like -24% condition duration reduction + Saffron’s at -20%, that’s a good 44% condition duration reduction. Less need for condi-cleansing and even lesser need to run back for waters often. However, people I notice on the enemy sides often don’t stack condition duration reduction, cause they end up getting beaten often just from burning, bleeding, torment, or chilling.
No, necro’s have been weak for too long it’s about time they finally get decent. No nerf is needed and you know if they did, they’d overdo it so much it wouldn’t even be worth using the damage on chill trait anymore
Agreed, And the thing is… Most reapers don’t actually seem to run this since they are running a power setup with precision. Precision doesn’t really do anything to condition damage since they don’t crit. And most people cause of all the conditions in HoT maps run condition clearing that at least occurs like every 10 seconds.
Therefore, in WvW and PvP, necromancers and reapers can get countered. I mean look at how many warriors and others run with some sort of resistance, its down right annoying. So I just hold off on the big things then drop them all on the person when the resistance drops.
Necromancers back when I started weren’t really great for condition damage. I’m glad they changed that. Keep up the work ANet.
I guess you are newer to wvw? It has been done before in the previous wvw seasons. Moving a server up a tiers is like asking them not to play for a week. Even thought wvw is in a downstate coverage gaps still exist.
Check out Kaineng server for instance this week. http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups Yes, they are having the same sort of issue, they got put in a matchup that they can’t handle. So yeah, they basically took the week off.
Or here try this one…
Name: Kira Bloodfallen
Gender/Race: Female Human
Reason: Uber vampire, yet dark too. The name is based on Shalltear Bloodfallen name from Overlord anime. Yet, due to the nature of that name taking up so many places, had to shorten it. So “Dark Lady whose Blood is gone” was born.
Though in all honesty, I know vampiric build isn’t that strong, but the whole reason I made Kira Bloodfallen was to play a character that is in a fan fiction story I’m making with friends in RP on another game is the sister of Shalltear Bloodfallen, which for me I love.
(edited by KayCee.4653)
Yeah ultimately, they will need to totally redo the hammer #2 skill for Revs. It isn’t like Ranger long bow, but is a havoc group and small zerg wrecker especially if you do run multiple anything. Though I got a feeling that even though bunker is dying in PvP, it’ll be even stronger in WvW with people spamming weaknesses and boon corruption to keep CoR from Revs at bay in particular.
Why is WvW dead anyway?
I want to hear opinions of WvW pro players 24/7I’m not a fan of WvW back then , but with the new layout of the map Im gonna try it after I finished my HoT stuff.
Take the new BLs, yeah … not good too large and most WvW players want to run in guild groups or in large zergs, WvW in new BLs isn’t really good for that. They made the BLs look all pretty and all, but made them friendlier for smaller groups.
They got rid of stability in the old sense, made it a boon and boons get stripped so easily that most frontliners are dead the first or second push even in a well coordinated group.
They made it so that people don’t have to upgrade anything, I take all your camps and your towers, keeps and castle will still upgrade to T3… What the…
They got rid of the tournament of the past, so that upon getting Silver something rank, you lose any sort of reward to playing WvW. You have unlocked everything mastery siege wise… so why play?
Getting +5 use to be guild thing that anyone could get, now you have to PvE like crazy to get to level 37 on guild hall to get +5 unlocked.
Oh and speaking of Guild halls, you have to get someone to train for scribing that is rather expensive, then farm Flax seed fibers and resonating silvers, and so forth for banners and various things like harden gates, harden guards, harden siege, SMC bombardment… etc. Keep Presence too to get +10… Its no wonder some consider WvW more P2-consider-win than it use to be. Its not P2W, but its closest GW2 has ever been to the concept in my opinion.
And this running pirate ship meta stuff, and group compositions being such a key factor in some fights, its a pain.
So yeah, I only glossed over some things that I, a player that does very little PvE, but loads of WvW have beefs about. In the end, though, WvW is still around, people still do it, but people are also waiting to see what changes are likely going to happen, but as it is, there loads of bugs in WvW that have never been addressed, and loads more of features and fixes that have been requested.
TL;DR
Basically mentioned the reasons why which mostly amount to auto-upgrades, banners, scribing guild upgrades for WvW, group compositions mattering and how easily boons and things are stripped on pushes cause of how many x of this class are running. WvW still exists and people still do it on even T8 server, yet the coverage on anything short of T1 is less and less it seems these days. And people are waiting to see what ANet is going to do about the population balancing.
CoR is about the only balance change they’re doing for WvW. But I’ll take it, 4 sec is better than 2 sec cd. It’ll make them less spammy.
No more overlap of the hits either, especially that middle and outer range one… OUCHY!
We’ve avoided adding this feature because we don’t believe it would be healthy for WvW. While we can appreciate why some players would want a feature like this, lots of other players only engage in WvW when, upon entering a WvW map, immediately see a commander icon to follow. We try and avoid adding features that can be used to intentionally exclude other players.
The people asking for the private tags are the people who don’t want pugs following them. We aren’t asking for you to remove the current commander tags(keep them as they are so pugs can follow them). I think having pugs follow a group that doesn’t want them might be more frustrating situation for both the pugs and the group than giving the option for squad tags.
((Then experiment with the commander/squad features, there is a way to do it, but its a bit… convoluted ))
I like the inclusive feature though of forcing tags to be shown to all. I just make a note to get them to go into the guild’s teamspeak or the server’s teamspeak. Otherwise, they don’t join squad in the guild WvW runs. Although, sometimes, we invite people to guild just cause they run with us like that as pugs and are on TS with us, thereby including everyone.
SIDE NOTE:
Get with your server people, and ask them what colors represent what. Some use purple for havoc groups, while GvG groups are yellow tagged, while Blue tag is zerg groups, and red tag are defender groups. Its a whole lot better than just doing what I said above about locking the squad.
(edited by KayCee.4653)
break bulwark gyro too? Not like I use it for anything.
Scrappers really don’t have many other skills that help survivability. I mean hammer has a block and a reflect, but if you going to do anything to them then beat the living daylights out of druid staff and revenant hammer. Hay, all’s fair in balancing professions like these.
I know the original poster was talking about PvP lord, but just FYI to anyone that finds this. Scrapper can solo many tower lords and all camp supervisors, somewhat easily in WvW. If you’re in the new BLs, Necro (NE) tower is the easiest to solo, the next easiest is the SE tower, then likely the Academy (NW) tower, and lastly, the teleporting around ogre in the SW tower. I’ve duo’d the SW and NW ones, but could likely have done those solo if I took my time and avoided things properly.
It’s cause they don’t know how to cater to it. WvW was always an after thought. GW2 main cash cow is what? PvE…
The next cash cow is? Well they want it to be PvP, but its a toss up there.
WvW never really been on a high note with GW2, at least not since 2014. I can’t speak of if it was around at launch or anything.
They can’t, WvW as it is right now is a buggy mess with bugged wall that glitch even if a cata successfully breaks them (check new BLs on towers and keeps, you’ll find one at least). They are other bugs too that they’ve yet to even acknowledge let alone work out. So, if they add anything to WvW right now it would be new features on top of new feature bugs, combined with old bugs.
Here’s some math… (10 comes from the probability that there is likely 10 bugs per feature released, just look at game patch notes for all the bugs in other game modes)
Old Bugs + (New Feature * (10 + New Bugs)) = Buggier than before.
Am I the only one here that finds the whole node capture game mode boring to watch? Like I have seen a few exciting moments, but those like final style matches.
Anything before that doesn’t really catch my eye and are usually one sided anyways.
No you’re not. Many do.
There are also hacks that apart from the big obvious teleport hacks also enable you to gain a subtle increase in movement speed so you’d fly below the radar of anyone who’d report you while having a perma-half swiftness edge
Hacks and exploits make such systems totally worthless.
Seriously…. It’s pretty alarming the lack of effort they seem to put into this.
Yeah and they have too many small subtle things too that a person can say is skill, or their build, that can actually be abused. Its sad that some players even recommend some of those “exploit/cheat” things to. Saying things like “Your PvP game will be better… Or you’ll be unstoppable in WvW…”
What happened to good honest fairness in playing?
I understand ANet not wanting to make a system closed so that everything is always the same rotation of skills or that everyone of say Warrior, isn’t locked into being a DPS class but that they can tank, and well in some classes case heal others. Yet all this, diversity leads to a system that its 1) hard to spot cheating especially when someone can claim that x trait gave them that boost… 2) hard to counter things that could be deemed as perma-stealth, perma-swiftness or near perma- anything…
I’m not saying get rid of what the game currently has, but if you want to call it “Esport” anything. You should take lessons from other games that actually have hackers that do x, y, z things a lot, like shooting through walls, and how to respond and react fast to such a thing, especially the high profile players of Esports…
Only topics that get over 3000 replies are read by anet. Didn’t you learn a thing from the hero point change shortly after HoT was released?
Not that, but whatever is said on Reddit too. Which is said that they will respond and even mention Reddit, while paying little attention to their official forums. If they had paid more attention here, we would have kept the old maps or at least had smaller (incredibly smaller) new BLs.
It would be interesting to see the code around this. My guess is that it has or will have an IF wrapped around it that limits PPK to players worth actual WvW experience. I can see Out Numbered servers not adding to the PPK as well.
Which is like all of T6 and down. And even some hours on T2 and down… I mean all servers short of T1 have some moments when no one is tagged up and those that come to the BL or EBG won’t roam, instead they go do something else
If they made PPK only count if you’re out-numbered… That be great, or count more for when you’re out numbered, That be stellar!… But if you’re on the team that outnumbers the enemy, then your team at that time should either get 1 point per kill or no points per kill.
This way you give people incentive to play when they are outnumbered. Otherwise, people will just leave WvW when they are outnumbered and not even try to roam just like some do now, but I expect it to get worse when PPK is implemented if they don’t add that sort of incentive in.
Why anybody would fight when PPK on if there is chance to lose? Some lamer rucksack guild come with their 30 revenants it’s better just flee before they have time to tag any of your players.
Some commanders already do this in both WvW and EotM. Run with nothing but Herald Hammer #2 trains, and if not that, some commanders see a group of enemies and think they can take them, will try… The instance they see they can’t they leave the zerg and the zerg falls apart.
I imagine when PPK happens, they’ll not focus on the stragglers fearing the hidden beast of a blob that will come from around the corner.

Yeah as Spurnshadow and Phantom said, the WvW forum area is full of us communicating. And no one listened when people complained about the maps, nor about anything else really that people had issues with in the changes to WvW.
Then all of a sudden it seems they are using selective hearing and only adding or changing things that they think will keep some of us here. Yet not dealing with balancing the banners, nor providing incentives for defending and any reward tracks or anything.
Oh, but wait… So, things will eventually change? We’ll see…
Don’t worry, they’re only one or two years behind: once they fix the issues from 2013 and 2014 maybe they’ll address the problems of today. When you see them making an announcement about how they will fix Golem Week, you know they’re getting close. Maybe 2018?
Unless they add something else that causes everything they currently have to be broken beyond belief. Then that “Maybe 2018” date will get push forward to the point when the game shuts down… lol
But all kidding aside, PPK with the pops like they currently are for lower tier servers is well… Only in EBG and only at ‘x’ hours. I can see it being abused like everything in the game from meta builds, to secret tricks. However, with it only being 1 point per kill, that is not a lot, but given current WvW population especially on anything short of kitten, and T3 servers, well… I can imagine that PPK won’t really matter much unless you have more guilds doing blob v blob flights and actively hunting for blobs.
The little gank squads of say 3 thieves and x, y, z other classes… aren’t likely going to make a serious enough dent in a score. I mean look at gank squads on T2 servers, they kill what? maybe 15 people in 30 mins… I mean the squirrels that squirrel off, those running to get to the zerg, etc. I don’t see PPK being really helpful or even fun for the gank squads beyond their current reward of some loot bag.
So my question, why are they adding it right now?
With Scrapper you’ll need to change things up based on the situation and the actual fights. If you can withdraw mid fight you can change it up some too. However, a helpful piece of advice is to have a lot of mobility as people generally avoid things like slick shoes and mortar blasts.
I generally start out with this build especially when I know I need to leap in when the frontline leaps in http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASnUU5miqrkXZ9V6rwvL7WQoqNRLTGFdcX3/d42lMjl4zUABAA-TFCBQBN4BCcw9HUhGCAchA0jOALp+DaUCqFlffDGAGBAMzsqyIiIChAYtAA-w
I will change up to a mid to back line support when necessary but like previous build I use the hammer but the a trait changes when I need it, to adaptive armor http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASnco6miiUlXZ9V6rwvL7WQ7lNRLTGFdcX37t4zUABQ42lMjFA-TFCBQBaR5ne0B0gHIAAuQAqQDBaUCew9Hsk6PBAOA+93AwzP/8xHfc/+7v/+7vFCg1CA-w
The thing is I’m roaming I’ll change up to rifle and adopt the fire arms trait that others have mentioned when I know I need to fight others at times… But if I know that class and believe I can keep in range, I’ll use hammer still. Its similar to the first build in either case, but still has a few bugs to sort out.
Yeah, people prefer either fights or at least having something to take other than camps. People on some lower tier servers, may have a huge night capping capability while others are sleeping. Yet, this is all because the populations are so unbalanced even the matches are unbalanced. If they were balanced, then people would be able to play all the time and have 24/7 coverage.
The thing is that the current server/tier system though makes it so that say one or more guilds pull a particular server up in tier and find that they can have more fun and fights on higher tier servers, they ditch that server for a higher tier. Like most, this balancing of populations thing I feel will mean getting rid of the servers and/or tiers all together. But that is basically what EotM is and I don’t want WvW to be like EotM if at all possible. However, I doubt ANet will listen since they released the Desert BLs even though we were telling them they were bad.
And sure, I’m complaining because siege and food can be easily done by individuals, so yea the complaints are different. I didn’t complain about +5 in the old days, because an individual could provide it, so yea, try again.
Oh, and by the way, even if your assertion is true, I don’t actually take any pride or some kind of superiority in having “worked” for my food and siege. Not to mention, if they did have out of balance food or siege to that degree, I’d complain the same if not more. If there was a new tier of armor that was 50% stronger than the last, or a 100% condition duration food, you’d bet I’d be calling it out for exactly what it is— a pve based crutch.
And let’s be honest and post a general question to those reading. How many random pve’rs that are just here for the daily capture willing to drop superior siege, when the tower rewards less than the siege?
Yeah, I made small havoc guilds for +5 camps and making guild cata with in the old guild system. It was helpful and way more fun than the new system. And actually made you feel like it was important to have guilds. Now, its more like “Oh you don’t really care about me, you just care about guild upgrades and getting people to spend gold and gems to make your guild better” type attitude…
I would too complain especially if they came out with anything that is better than ascended level gear. Worked my tail off and spent large amounts of gold to just get my ascended gear, and if they were to make any new gear that is 2% or higher better than the ascended level gear, I most assuredly would be leaving this game permanent. The one major reason I play this over other games is cause once you gear grind once, you don’t have to do it again unless you just want to. Otherwise, I’d be playing something else instead…
Oh yeah, on a few servers I was on in the past, few commanders ever wanted the followers/pugs to drop siege, it was always the commander’s job. Therefore, even active WvW non-commander players aren’t even likely to drop siege. It is even worst now that things upgrade to fortified really rapidly and anything from reinforced to fortified (gate/wall) takes a long time to break down with anything short of Guild/Superior siege.
P.S. – I miss T3 towers, keeps and SMC having only reinforced gates, but oh, well…
A lack of rewards, a certain bias towards expensive guild upgrades, and a cumbersome map have really caused a huge hit to the casual appeal for WvW.
But then again, it doesn’t have that much to offer to the hardcore player either beyond being a de factor place for RvR, at the moment.
True, I’ve been wondering why people with Gold and higher ranks stay in WvW, when there is no incentives. And also, with it being such a money sink in the past with siege and paying for upgrades, which now, the latter is gone and the former is less of an issue since heroic proofs can be used to purchase siege.
I guess in the end blob v blob is about the only thing that makes people want to keep playing that after they max everything. However, I worry too that even the few new people that WvW has gotten will grow tired of trying to max everything when there hardly any incentives to keep going just for that.
The servers around Ferguson’s Crossing have seem to dropped in population by alot. We used to be lingering around t7-t8 due to glicko ratings, but servers like SoR, IoJ, and AR really dropped their population to the point where we passed their ranks. Our population as a server hasn’t changed drastically through this time.
At the same time, there’s not much incentive to transfer to lower tiers at the moment when a large list of servers cost the same 500 gems throughout.
This is mostly because people went up to the T1 and T2 servers from SoR and other servers. I have heard stories from some that said they didn’t like something that SoR had did back in the past… but all of the ones that I played with were like they were never going back to SoR or any Medium pop server. I guess they liked the blob v blob v blob fights.
And with PPK returning, I doubt anyone will do anything but spawn camp one side in EBG and do blob v blob v blob fights… So being on a higher tier server seems more lucrative than medium pops for some I guess. I worry that people are too far gone though to help bring the lower pop servers up to speed like it use to be pre-HoT.
Like others here, I’ve devoted a lot of time to WvW, not even sure how much time I spent there. I’d say maybe 80% of the time, but I’m finding it harder to keep my interest in playing WvW. I’m like 140 ranks from being maxed in all WvW skills, and I am like, why would I keep playing after I max everything? There is no incentive to just keep playing… Yet at least with PvE and PvP you have reward tracks and gear skins, and more… But WvW, even that achievements don’t really provide much incentive.
WvW only use… and they are like 9K burn that ticks every second from dragon banner… And if you’re the holder of the banner you get a break bar that takes like 2 or more focusing on you to break… and if you have multiple people using the same banner you can wreck a blob… Even if they are “bunker” Sometimes you can avoid it… but If you’re front line and get all your stability stripped from you and the fire road lands and you’re stunned or immobilized in place, you’ll be double down in 5 seconds or less.
Maybe a little exaggerated on the time, but yes… its OP when used with any strategy.
Yeah, and it seems that those that stay are either a bit toxic, listening to them rant and complain and all on TeamSpeak, or there underlining issues that cause people to leave the servers or leave the game or WvW in general.
One of these is HoT and guild halls in general, another is the new BLs. The other maybe the bunker meta and how some classes like Tempest only needs to spam lightning overload skill, and others like rev. only need to spam hammer no. 2 skill. Why bother playing in that type of environment?
And HoT content gets boring… Fast, so I can understand why fewer and fewer maps seem to be as sparling as it was back when HoT was released.
I don’t think even if they added much to WvW now, that many would come back to WvW play…
EB change to EotM, hello barren WvW period. not many of my guildies in any guild will even go to EotM, yet they all do EBG. So, if you think EB is populated now with BLs not populated, that change would make all maps not populated. or at least with lower than usual pop size.
And remembering a conversation the other day while in EotM, people were complaining of low FPS due to the particle effects of the map.
Is it actually dodgeable? I didn’t look into it a ton yet as I don’t run SR anymore cause S/D works fine without it but I didn’t think the gyro reveal could be dodged. If it can, that’s really nice to know.
yes, rev reveal range is only 360 … scrappers is only 600, and both are avoidable by either distance or dodge.
the funny thing is, scrapper has a trait that if you hit a stealth opponent in stealth you’ll reveal them. therefore, avoid shadow refuge when a scrapper is around, use like cloak and dagger…
The meta scrapper build doesn’t use the tratline where this trait is situated.
true, but many in some wvw guilds ask for it to be ran for when zergs use veil and mass invis… or at least two commanders asked me to run it, but i dont prefer it.
Playing thief is super frustrating.
I know that I am very rusty with the class now as I barely ever play it. When I go wvw with thief, I get bursted (zerk/cav) more often than my full zerker ele. The other day a friend asked me (my ele) to duel him in OS. He mains a thief and improved a lot since we used to roam together since I don’t play pvp much and he spends there most of his time.
First he used his herald, he got the elite spec that day and wanted to test it. I won first duel, then he figured out how to counter me and killed me every time.
Then he logged to his thief.
Felt so sorry for him when he couldn’t chop off HP from my team support (yeah a lot of the build doesn’t benefit me but allies so it’s even weaker than it could be in 1 vs 1) tempest. I did way more dmg to him then he did to me, he lost all fights on his thief.Sad story of a raging thief and one ex-thief.
Question, are they trying to get rid of thief?
Asking cause even guildies have noticed this too.
