One thing that would make the LS/LW much more appealing to me would to be to move away from ‘installments’ and instead have things feel like they’re happening over time.

On a base level, this would ideally look like characters moving more across different maps. Sometimes you see caravans moving across one map, sometimes with events, but you rarely see people traveling.

  • What if there were caravans that traveled from Shaemoor to Applenook over the course of multiple days, stopping at different towns in Queensdale, Kessex, and Genedarren?
  • What if Ameranth who loves to travel and see the world stopped sitting in the Black Citadel like she’s done for over a year and started visiting different regions? Maybe she could be like Nicholas the traveler and when you find her in a location she’ll trade something to you for random junk items x times a day.
  • What if Braham had to travel down from Cragstead to Hoelbrak to take Asura gates to get over to DR to attend the Jubilee celebrations?

With all of those, events/activites/merchants/whatever would still be available for people when the person/army/whatever reached the correct location but it could happen dynamically day to day, week to week, month to month, on a given date without being a ‘new release’ which we already have half the story for in the patch notes.

Bi-monthly updates could still happen to set all this up but if it happened on a cadence of a moving world instead of an update with a new package.

I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on this idea, and I’m sure people would have tons of more ways it could be used than the ones I noted above.

1. It was indeed inappropriate for the player to use an ANet tag in the context of this interaction.

2. However, other than that this interaction was not inappropriate.

3. From a WvW standpoint, ALL players should stay near the zerg to make sure that they stay alive.

4. From my perspective, the activities of the others in WvW was trolling.

5. GvG is a gameplay style in GW1 and does not exist in GW2. I look forward to the day that ANet adds GvG to GW2.

On most servers if you actually didicate a few hours to the fight, it is easy to get in main right after it ends and then you can be in main for the next couple attempts.

Sure you can`t get in if you`re waiting until the last minute but that means you aren`t coordinating with the raid and probably not on voice chat anyway.

While it’s nice to have a video of how close you guys are, you might want to either remove the video or remove the link to it as it has you specifically typing in language which is prohibited both in public map channels and on the forums into map chat.

So it takes you 20-25 minutes to complete w1 trib mode.
It takes me 7-10 minutes to complete w1 normal mode.

That means it takes 2-3x as long to do it on trib mode even after you`ve learned how to farm it. For an easy, very short trib mode that`s reasonable.

Anthony: I for one adored the new events/mini dungeons and so did my guild. We sought out Modus Sceleris as well as vexa`s lab (which has a great boss fight by the way) and the halls in dredgehaunt is still my favorite mini dungeon in the game, though not one I get to do often with the boss generally requiring 3-4 players.

I think as players it`s easier to have a strong reaction to something that`s big and fanfair-y like the living story updates than more subtle things like events scattered throughout the world. This doesn`t mean players don`t like these but rather they`re woven into a tapestry vs. the living story events have tended to be their own smaller picture in a way. That doesn`t mean one or the other is bad. I believe they`re both called for.

The Iron Legion set is created with a recipe you can buy from karma vendors. However, the pauldrons are missing from the recipe set and therefore cannot be crafted.

My personal guess is that the ones that do exist were created by the mystic forge.

It’s a ‘unique’ skin set so that along with the ‘rarity’ may be why they’re so valuable. However, there are a few other ways to get that skin including an item that can be purchased from a heart completion karma vendor.

Or you can add astricks to make it bold, so:

turns out as:

without the spaces and adjusting the font size to whatever’s comfortable.

There’s a textile command for headers specifically but those seem to be set to the same size as normal text and the textile command for indentation also seems to be blocked and I haven’t figured out a way to do it though I suspect there is one.

Sorry I’m not sure how to use different headers, that’s the title for the next 4 builds, they’re all Symbol Nuke but specialize slightly differently into different areas.

So it’s quite a bit after you posted if but if you wanted to update the op you can make the header bold and underlined by doing the following without the spaces:

Bounties can be fun, but often frustrating

My guild has exactly once taken more than the alotted 8 minutes for 5 of us to find a bounty. We usually have several minutes left over to let them get close to a waypoint before engaging. We don`t prescout for the most part because it`s simply unnecessary and a waste of time. I don`t think bounties need to be longer at all.

As a rule you have to learn a bounty`s mechanic to be able to beat them but once you do it`s perfectly doable in 7 minutes. Personally we haven`t been able to beat 2-mult yet but I`m confident we will with a better grasp on his mechanic.

Honestly, if your guild can`t field 6 5-man teams who are capable of finding and killing a bounty in 15 minutes, you might want to rethink t3 nless you are happy retrying until you get lucky.

With all of this confusion, I’m trying to figure out what the current max total is for laurels. I’m sitting at 91 (92 tonight after reset) right now. This is including the 2 patch day bonus daily laurels from previous patches, as well as the 10 monthly bonus laurels from doing the PvP daily this month after the patch. I have not missed a daily or monthly yet. Does anyone know if this is the current max total? Your post seems to help confirm this.

I think you missed one. That’s the same number I have (well, 31 and 2 amulets) and I missed the daily pvp bonus one on patch day this month but have gotten all of daily and monthly ones.

You’re right that having huge numbers of people at big boss events is an issue right now.

They actually just released a culling fix in WvW. Did you go into the options menu and try turning down the number of characters you could see and their image quality? This could easily just be a settings issue.

Hopefully after it’s been proven to work in WvW for a month or so it will then be added to PvE also for those boss fights.

I think this has been fixed now, but it is pretty lame that people who had already completed the PvP monthly didn’t get a chance at these 10 laurels.

If you managed to squeeze in the PvP monthly before this got fixed – grats. If you didn’t do the PvP monthly when you had the chance, even though you might not have known that it would’ve netted you 10 additional laurels, then consider it an opportunity missed. If you already had the PvP monthly done and didn’t even get the chance at these 10 laurels, then you’re just SOL.

It hasn’t been “fixed” nor will it be. It’s similar to what we saw in January and February.

January: The daily was changed (laurels added). If you did the daily before the patch, then you could do the daily again after the patch and get a laurel for that day only (and a second jug of karma and mystic coin).

February: The daily was changed (rotation added). If you did the daily before the patch, it reset with the patch due to the change and you could do it again after, allowing you to get 2 laurels, jugs of karma, and mystic coins for that day only.

March: PvP daily/monthly changed to allow you to get laurels from either the PvP or the PvE daily/monthly, but not both. Tracking system is added with the update. Therefore, if you did the PvE daily, but not the PvP daily before the update, you were able to do the PvP daily to get a second laurel. Similarly, if you did the PvE monthly before the update but not the PvP monthly, then you are able to do the PvP monthly and get 10 laurels.

This will almost definitely not be “fixed” but rather is only something that happened on the 26th for the daily and in March for the monthly. In April you will only be able to get 10 laurels either from the PvE or the PvP monthly.

So what Anthony’s saying is that you should reliably be able to beat any given bounty with 5 people in 15 minutes without pre-locating. That makes a lot of sense to me. If the bounties reset after 7 minutes of fighting, you have 8 minutes for 5 people to find them to still have the full 7 minute fight time. Now if you have trouble with the fight and wipe, that’s a different story…

Doesn`t it sort of depend on how much wxp you get from kills vs. Events? Lower tier servers might actually have an advantage if they can karma train and get lots of wxp that way.

Another form of this is through special events, things like Halloween, Hunger Games, or Wintersday where content is available for a period of time, is removed from the game when that period is over, and could appear again in the future in some form to help provide unique and fun experiences in the game world.

Hunger Games… 0o! Hunger Royale!? Like BWE (Beta Weekend Event) did? woot! I wondered since then, what if any other maps might be good for Hunger Royale, for the Great Critter Hunt, or the Branded event. ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Beta )
Imagined what WvW map would feel like with a weekend long event of HungerRoyale in timed intervals. Que up to team with your server, last as long as you can vs 2 other server teams (unable to enter any building). When the game ends, scores tallied, rewards given. Que up for another match or move on. Always wondered what those BWE might end up doing (besides a stress test focusing large populations of players into one map).

I was thinking more like forcing Asura Progeny into an arena and seeing who the last one alive was.

FYI: One of the 3 siege items is a very powerful cannon you can use to clear the courtyard while never having anything attack you at all. It’s VERY simple, however the instance does not direct you to this cannon at all.

The expansion’s worth of content was in terms of systems. There are big systems that they’ve been working in over the past two months.

1. The Living Story: From what they’ve said, this is going to be considerably bigger in March. They’ve been testing the system in small ways to make sure it’s working, as they figure it out. Unless they abandon it for some reason, this system is now in place and should let them add more content through it faster.

2. Updated dailies: Sure it might not affect your gameplay a ton, but it’s nicer and more interesting than the static ones that were there before. You can pick and choose from content.

3. WvW rewards/progression. Yes, we haven’t seen this system yet, so we don’t know how good it will be, but it’s a full system they have to integrate into the game. That takes time.

Whether we’ll see more systems integrated or more content in later months, we’ll have to see, but in terms of systems, they’ve been adding a ton. I realize players often underestimate how many manhours it takes to create a system versus add content to preexisting systems, but it really is quite a lot more and what they’ve done monthly is quite impressive.

One thing a lot of people don’t realize is whenever you make a new account in GW1 you can get a bunch of free zaishen keys via talking to a guy on the battle isles. I don’t know what they go for now but I think you used to be able to get 50plat worth of keys. That could easily get someone their first handful of points.

Personally, I have 3 level 80 characters and more on their way. It’s not about being punished for using alts. You could easily do the Maw on one character, Jormag on another, and Teq on a third. It’s not a punishment at all. It would simply encourage more diverse game play and less lag. Even after you spent the 2-4 hours to do all the chest events, there is still plenty of different things to do in the game.

Limiting gameplay and the use of alts just doesn’t seem like a good solution to me. Don’t we already have enough limits to deal with? (DR,once per char,condition limits, etc, etc, etc)

With there being 10+ chests available, once per account is a very small limitation. People would still be able to get lots of chests, it just would encourage players to diversify their play to do more different things, much like the goal of the new dailies having WvW, Keg Brawl, region specific, etc activities in them.

Personally I think the chests ought to be one per boss per account per day. That way people still have a dozen or so to do if they want to get lots, but there’s no incentive to use alts and guesting to farm the Frozen Maw, etc. It also encourages people to do the temples if they want to maximize their rares.

Also FYI, it is in fact 1 guaranteed rare or better per chest, not just 90% (in-game dev confirmed). If you don’t get a rare from your chest, you’re either too low level or it’s a bug.

So I know I’m in the minority, but for the first two months of the game I had more keys than chests. I got a few from map completion and a few from my PS and a couple as drops. And I would get another key from a chest about 80% of the time. Eventually the chests started catching up, but it took a while!

Now I have about 45 unopened chests, but I play everyday. I haven’t gotten lucky with a perma item from a chest but it’s always nice to get influence and dyes and the such. Just today I got a key from Claw Island and opened 5 chests with it.

Reading this conversation, I think of Colin’s article back when when he referenced Quest For Glory. The Quest For Glory games (like all of the Sierra quest games) had a very serious plot, but it wasn’t about to be above making fun of itself.

To me it seems that Tyria is very similar to that as a world, though unlike Sierra, ANet tends to try to avoid making pop culture references in their world. Mind you, my Asura warrior wouldn’t mind taking a couple of classes from FA’s correspondence school!

You can always transfer servers for free if you don’t have any characters, but not if you have any, so if you can’t find out tonight, you could pick one, play around with character creation and the starter area, then delete and switch servers when you find out where your friend is.

All I know is that every time i used up a BLK before this patch I ended up with 20-30 ectos. I’ve probably used up 10-15 kits since launch and every time was the same. Patch hits and I get 10 ectos between a kit and a half. (luck improved very slightly after my really bad run).

This seems to be to be very out of the ordinary. I’ve had very consistent average results and as a result I kept buying kits. Now i’m certainly not going to buy any more until this gets worked out. If it was just crappy luck then it’s crappy luck to you guys at Anet that you won’t be getting any more of my money. I’ll stick to cheap kits I can buy ingame if I wanted crap luck.

I’m sorry for your bad luck. Today I salvaged 6 rares and got 10 ectos… it would seem I stole it.

Recognizing Ursan’s numbers are made up and we have to effectively use X% as we don’t know the exact numbers, his logic is solid. If we throw 25 pennies in the air the odds are very low that one or fewer turn out to be tails, even though with individual toss there’s a 50% chance that it will not be tails.

However, when you consider the number of people tossing 25 pennies is very high, the odds that this bad luck will happen to one (or more likely many) is quite high.

Wondering first if there was a focus group for this content. And secondly, who at ANet is constantly promoting installing arcade style game play within an MMO.

I am desperately trying to reserve my opinion on this.

At the moment, on paper, there is nothing attractive about the new content.

And it raises concerns about future content.

Keep in mind that the things you may not like as much about GW2 are exactly the things that make some people love the game.

To me this does not raise concerns about future content but actually makes me quite excited to see what content will be added over the next 12 months. Maybe difficult content can be combined with ‘arcade’ style activities and I hope that content like this will continue to be added to the game.

Was condition damage also an issue along with support? My thief who loves to death blossom and kite mobs (who aren`t maxed on bleed stacks) is much less likely to get loot credit on champs than my guard who is built for support and probably needs more power added to her build.

GW2 is nearing its 6 month mark, and it`s been even longer since the first BWE. Over 1 million players have joined the game since then. It seems like it`s time for a little nostalgia for `the way things used to be.` =D

I`d say expect to spend 100+ hours on a character to get completion. More if you`re doing dungeons or other non-exploration activities much.

For me, each of my 3 80s had about 45% when they hit max level. Only one has 100%. I`ve played ~700 hours, though maybe 1/3 of that was chatting with my guild while studying.

There is a vet spider event in the ruins in the SW of timberline falls that spawns on top of the commune skill point there that does not scale down correctly.

There is a vet spider that spawns outside of the event in the same location that does spawn correctly.

You should invest in some Spy kits for these types of skill points! They make these kinds of situations much more manageable if you are having a bit a trouble.

Good advice, though thankfully I`ve been able to work through every such challenge I`ve faced as of yet.

The issue at hand was that the event in question is in fact not scaling correctly in whatever sense, and as there was a dev request for names of such events, I obliged.

And yeah, I think I avoided him on my thief via shadow refuge, but then on my warrior it took 3 of us kiting him for ~10 minutes to take him down, partially because he would 2-shot any of us.

Also, if I remember correctly he was 2 levels higher than the scaled level of the region he was in. I can’t remember if the event was the same as his level or the region’s level.

The Seattle seaport police once pulled over the tall ship the Lady Washington for firing blanks having forgotten to get a sound permit.

Personally I would encourage Arenanet to add a `player music` volume slider while also expanding the system, ideally making it as roboust as in lotro. As for why bother to expand, because of the huge music community this sort of system has been shown to draw to games.
