Yeah, I can’t seem to dodge his rotation well. The best I was able to do was deflect the initial pistol rotation with earth spikes into burning speed but then I eat either a shatter or a frenzy right after.

Another video will be up in probably 12-16h I suppose. Still in the mesmer’s perspective though.

I play on a laptop so it’s pretty much impossible to run Fraps unfortunately. I’m building a new comp so next time I match up with that guy I may be able to provide a video from my perspective.

I faced that mesmer a few more times and so far it’s still me losing 99% of the time. I took most of what you guys recommended into consideration and applied a lot more pressure. For the most part I seem to be doing better, at the very least he’s at lower HP than last time.

I switched my build back to 0/10/0/30/30 for the additional cleansing on cantrip and it seems to help out more.

I’m still eating far too many shatters than I should be so I guess that’s something I will need to continue to work on.

Thanks for the advice.

Since I was running 25 water I don’t have access to the condition removal for cantrips which was bugging me with the stealth / immobilize shatter. The mes was also using my burning speed to use the leap on me which makes it more of a con than pro.

I think S/D might be more useful if I get more used to it. The few times I’ve used it I did fairly well but due to my inexperience I wasn’t able to burst properly most times. Only bad thing is that if I do I’ll lose 2 escapes if I go with Arcane Power / Burst as opposed Cleansing Fire / Lightning Flash.

So I’m trying to figure out how to beat against this mesmer. I’m not good by any definition of the word but I’d rather be able to beat him a few times rather than none. He’s running… I believe he said it was a modified 7 swords shatter build emphasizing stealth.

We did 10 rounds and I lost horribly, it’s better to just say I lost them all though I fluked out like 2 of them I think. I wasn’t running the same traits nor weapons every run since I was wondering what to do. The runs I actually did manage to do the most or kill was either D/D ( wins ) or S/D.

My traits are 0/15/0/25/30 using the normal bunker traits.

For S/D I switched Zephr’s boon to bolt to heart.


You can pretty much see I was flailing around all over the place. I had a lot of difficulty locating the correct target so S/D didn’t really work out too well. When I did find the right target to burst it did a fair amount of damage but otherwise D/D was superior since it did more AoE.

Major issues include the mesmer’s initial stealth burst. Not sure how to counter that other than in the latter rounds I just ran away until the stealth wore off. Second thing was the immobilizes. Even Fire3 was a trap since I kept getting immobilized then 5 clone shattered on me which kind of limited my options for attacking.

Any tips would be useful of course.

Eles are more… “enablers” than support. We provide some of the more useful fields though we lack enough finishers to actually trigger them.

Actual support that we have would be boons ( which aren’t useful in all situations as they overlap other classes or redundant due to 25 stack cap ) or healing which isn’t too strong by itself without others triggering fields.

Our hard CCs aren’t as efficient as other classes and our soft CCs other than daggers aren’t on a short cooldown which makes it hard to justify going full support as opposed to full damage or tank.

I gave up going to that borderland because of the lag. You can be completely alone and still get disconnected for no apparent reason.

D/D zerg busting was more viable pre culling patch when only a fraction of the zerg saw you. I used to do this a lot since it was more fun than staff for me. Post patch it’s nearly impossible to go deep into a zerg since they see you too soon and nuke you down half way in.

WvW, fire grab misses if the enemy is moving pretty much. skill delay in t1 does factor into it but it’s still no excuse to have the skill being fairly useless against players.

I honestly don’t think Thor is worth it in pugs. The build relies on others to buff you so that your multipliers shine, something you will not get in pugs.

S/F probably shouldn’t be ( as much ) but S/D pretty much screams melee range. All /D skills are melee and all S/D synergy is melee.

I’m back to using the traditional bunker since 20 lightning isn’t as effective when the -20% only brings RtL down to 32s. Though it’s still an issue since everything runs away from me now. It was kind of insulting ( in a slap to a face from anet sort of way ) when I was in WvW and a thief was able to just walk away from me with only minor initiative use.

Look people, what OP saying here is pretty clear. We should always climb the mountain to get across it instead of finding other valid solution like build a tunnel or walk around it.

D/D – Rush into them and kill
D/F – Earth reflect, run into them, Air 4 and kill
S/F – Earth reflect, nuke them, Air 4, nuke some more
S/D – Run in, nuke nuke nuke nuke nuke nuke nuke
S – Nuke, Earth reflect, nuke more

Is there a way to kill it normal? Sure there is. Just because most groups would rather just quit doesn’t mean it’s not possible.

I’ll give you a hint for an easy way other then glitching, bring a thief.

EDIT: Though tbh I’d rather they just fix it and make the mobs reset on wipe.

Pre-pre-patch, I couldn’t catch up to a thief if he was burning everything he had. Likewise, he couldn’t kill me since while he could catch up to me, he had no initiative to actually hurt me and pretty much presented himself on a silver platter.

I only met one warrior back then that could match me in speed but none that were faster. All things considered that would mean that they had at least as much mobility as us as long as they specced for it.

I have never faced mobility specced rangers before so I can’t comment on them, pre-pre, pre, or post patch.

I would hypothesis that in terms of absolute best speed. We were ranked #2, pre-pre patch. #2-3 pre patch. and we’re probably #4-5 now.

Only thing that’s bad is that GoS is a 900 range spell which doesn’t really complement staff THAT well. It is quite useful using in melee range in earth for the blinds though as others have said.

Eles got a buff. Clensing wave trait is now every 5 secs instead of 10. Thats like extra 1-2k heals every 10 sec plus condi remove. d/d ele is super tanky now

0 —> 5, it was never 10s. You’re thinking of EA’s Cleansing wave which is on a 10s cd

I actually met one of those new ultra mobility non-CC’able warriors in WvW today. Aside from not being able to immob. him since he had that 98% reduction traited up, I couldn’t catch him at all since he had 3-4 leap skills. I can somewhat understand how other classes feel about eles now but it’s still pretty sad, especially since it would seem that Aegis, Invurn, dodge, everything pretty much triggers the 40s cd on RtL.

You should make a mega suggestion thread on which counters trigger rtl reduce cd.

I believe I heard that they will consider block to be counted as a hit.

According to SotG they CLEARLY stated that Block is supposed to make RtL enter 20sec cooldown not 40sec… I guess they forgot about it?

Specifically, the SotG mentioned Aegis, not block, however even then the dev only speculated that it should count as a hit. As for hard evidence, since it was a WvW situation, I don’t want to say concretely that block caused a 40s CD. From a quick PvP npc test, I can confirm that invulnerable and miss ( blind ) causes 40s. I can’t seem to find anything that uses block or aegis to test yet.

EDIT: Checking block on Asc. fighter mobs also cause a 40s cooldown.

If you’re into Zergs then I would grab PVT. Vitality is somewhat more useful in those situations since it’s more important to survive the surge of AoE and tag stuff / CC as opposed to continual heal that’s usually better in smaller and larger confrontations.

If anyone still remembers levels 1-10, there are mobs that do actually dodge out of attacks. For some reason mobs at level 80 forget this. You see archers and mage type mobs stay in melee range, only 1-2 will bother using knockback.

Imagine how hard certain encounters would be if bosses blinked away from fights, dodged out of 100 brades, dropped lava fonts and so on.

There’s really only 2 reasons… 2.5 reasons why a mesmer is used over another warrior.

- Time Warp
- Gather / Pull
- Signet of Inspiration ( this is fairly meh, but let’s include it )

Time warp is fairly obvious. At its very core, TW is a damage enhancer. Guardians do have might stacking abilities, however since 4 warriors can easily get up to 25 might by themselves, it’s not as useful as TW which bypasses the might cap. Should note that, the longer a fight is to 180 seconds but not over, the less statistically useful it is compared to another warrior.

Gather and pull is what I would classify as skills that drag mobs together. Also popularized by CoF1 but used in SE and CoE to drag mobs to walls so that warriors can use more of their skills more effectively. Guardians do not have skill as useful as this and are only barely better than having a warrior use fear me on bosses for the same effect. Mostly used to get to a boss rather than the boss itself.

Signet of Inspiration is only somewhat used in CoF. I can be elitist and say it’s only used in half decent to good parties but suffice it to say, most parties can go without it and function the same. For all intents and purposes, it’s used to quicken the speed to obtain 25 might and stack fury. All other boons are nice but never really the intention.

Is Mesmer overrated in PvE? Maybe, I could probably make a compelling enough argument that if warriors had a more effective pulling skill, speed run parties would either turn into 5 warriors or 4 warriors and 1 guardian for projectile heavy events. Either way, no other class could fit the role over mesmer for the spot of #3 and that includes Elementalists. Why have support if you could just increase DPS and reduce the time you’re in danger! Har har >_>

So with the vacuum left by Ele’s loss of roaming in WvW I’ve noticed the sharp increase in warrior based havoc squads. Warriors which have lower healing then us but much higher damage when speced to mobility is much better at taking out lone roamers due to their ability to knock down and immobilize. Their speed quite easily matches eles pre-patch and can run away from zergs easily enough.

1600 play hours on Ele, PvE and WvW

Not as fun. Loss of mobility is annoying for PvE, not much change in dungeons since I never spammed RtL anyways. Seeing 40s pop up from bugged out RtL sucks though.

Changed to a 0-10-10-20-30 auramancer build with -20% in water and removed mistform from my bar but still somewhat weaker than what I liked from before.

After a few tests in dungeons and WvW in duels, the RtL nerf is now far more unpredictable. Not because of the “normal” new behavior, but because of how RtL normally bugs out. One of the more easier ways to test this is to use RtL on the berserker boss in the new dungeon, you will self stun yourself AND you’ll get 40s.

If nothing else, and I seriously mean, if NOTHING else, at the very least, make it so if you have a target on use then you get the 20s CD.

I have no issue with nerfing RtL in PvE >>>>>IF<<<<< they’re really going by the philosophy that thief is the fastest roamer. I just ask that they nerf warriors and rangers as well since they get the same mobility and aren’t supposed to have it based on that same philosophy.

Unique is universally accepted in most gaming circles… however, I do agree to an extent that the wording doesn’t stand out enough. I only knew the unique keyword was in the game back when the 20 slot bags were still termed as unique.

Oh yes… the rare trident thing. I remember joking to the guild that my characters should have an option to throw tridents at people for damage, that’s how nerfed the loot got.

Here’s how it will go… bunkers will remain. Non-bunkers will go back to bunker. Staff will still get laughed at, S/D will still be bunkering, /F will still be laughed at. So all things considered, Eles as a whole got nerfed. Grats!

Changed Stone Skin to Cleansing Flame for burst condition removal. The loss of stability is annoying tbh, but I think the removal is more important post patch.

Signet of Earth is arguably the only signet that falls into their category of signets that buff a single stat so that should get buffed. Given that they did say that the actives of said signets will also get buffed, perhaps we will see something like a 5s immo or bleed stacks or something. I don’t think it will be strong enough to warrant using signets but we’ll see.

30 people… sure so only T3 and above will ever take over a camp. Actually, let’s make it 100 people! I’m sure us in T1 would be happy knowing that our zergs are so much more superior because only we can take over camps.

I just want one thing. Make RtL 20s if you’re out of combat.

I don’t care if it’s 40 seconds in PvP, it’s a small map anyways. I don’t care if it’s 40s after I run away from a zerg, I was attacked by 80 people after all. What I do care is getting slowed to hell while in PvE or running across the map in WvW while no one is around.

I rewatched that portion. It was stated as a PVP only change, so hopefully PVE will get a buff, but not stated, but in PVP it is getting nerfed. It was specifically called out as getting nerfed.

Wording was weird, it says active was staying as is with passive being nerfed slightly.

Well, not going to buy runes to test it in wvw with food, but in pvp using the runes plus trait, the warrior cripple ( 7s ) lasts 3s on me.
