At this point, after addressing the refund issue, and giving a character slot to veterans for pre-purchase, anyone who is still complaining about the base game getting packaged in for free are just being greedy.

Price-per-content is a different story, and maybe my standards are low for content time, but 15 hours or so of fresh content(story, progression unlocks, 1st wing raid completion) would be worth $50 for me. Honestly I feel i got my money’s worth out of the core game in the first 2 weeks, and frankly I find the concept of a lower price tag devaluing someones personal past experience with the game to be absolutely baffling.

HoT should have came with a free character slot for veteran players without needing to prepurchase to get it.

Do other MMOs give you a new slot for an expansion?

Not being contrary, genuinely curious. I haven’t bought an expansion for an MMO since Cataclysm for WoW.

That is just it. Guild Wars 2 was NOT suppose to be like other MMOs. Anet has stated that time and time again. Also their track record for treating their vet players very well has been excellent up until now.

How about a lack of sound that I find annoying. The Barradin statue fight cutscene for the beginning of the Charr story. No sound of the statue at all. Big flash and stuff going on and silence. It used to have sound. what happened to it and why was it taken away?

Even still. A new profession from HoT should include a character slot so you can play said profession without needing to prepurchase. I seriously doubt HoT will have near as much content as the core game. The core game came with tons of content and plenty of character slots and had cost about the same as HoT.

I will not pay extra to be able to play with new professions and/or playable races. Nor should I have to prepurchase so I can. If I buy an expansion and it comes with professions/races then let me be able to play them without having to buy extra crap!

No expansion has ever had more content than its core game as far as I know. The core game did come with plenty of character slots but not enough to have one of each class. Unlike a new game, an expansion is just adding onto the existing game so there’s no obligation to include free character slots.

I have yet to see anyone present an argument with strong evidence that it required to be included. Many have brought up GW1 except those were standalone campaigns.

Any expansion you buy that has a new profession/race you should not have to pay extra to play that content. That should be included in the original price of $50. Vets who do not prepurchase will have to fork over $60 minimum to play content that originally cost $50. That is wrong wrong wrong. It’s like having to pay a $10 entrance fee to a dungeon/story that came with the expansion but you can’t play it unless you pay that $10.

I disagree with you adding the extra $10 for almost the same reasons as you trying to tack on another $20+ earlier. The $10 extra charge is by player choice so you cannot include it.

It also will not affect all veteran players so including it would be misleading. Players have from now until the day of the expansion’s release to pre-purchase the expansion and get the bonus character slot. You can be certain the majority of veterans will have bought the expansion during that window as is the case with other expansions. There may also be some that have not used up all of their slots. Those that choose to forgo the bonus, and wait until after the release of the expansion, have themselves to blame for needing to spend extra money to get an additional character slot.

Patience guys. Anet will adjust the price for the vets. Just dont pre order this overpriced and unfair expansion. Some vets will waste their money on the pre ordered expansion but on release day there will be an expansion only price, cheaper than this nonsense, because Anet now wants to milk the pre order gw2 fanatics. The intelligent gw2 players are too many for Anet to throw away.

Source?

Common sense

No. You’re only saying it;s common sense because you made up all of that without any proof and thus are unable to provide sources.

Well we can agree about disagreeing on this matter. I for one feel that without at least 1 additional character slot that paying $50 is not a decent deal for me to shell out.

To play with the new weapons for current professions will be more additional character slots. No one will want to change skills and traits all the time.

Wow. Judge the value of HoT however you want, but the above is bloody ridiculous.

How do you figure? Who would want to keep switching out traits and skills on their character all the time? For instance changing between a dual sword warrior and changing it into a hammer warrior. Two completely different builds and traits and possibly armor. With the new weapons being added and it changing the professions drastically, switching out skills and traits between two different builds became that much more tedious.

Something turning things upside down gives one a whole new perspective. While chilling and reading HoT reactions i noticed just how entitled the ones accusing others of entitlement are.

Many a comment about HoT from it’s defenders were about how we had 3 years of great gameplay and free updates and now we complain about 50$.

Now that’s entitlement. Even if we had 15 years worth of free playtime, that doesn’t mean jack smack kitten to the deal that is the x-pac. A-net doesn’t owe vets anything, true. But they also don’t owe anything to a-net. HoT standard edition costs 50$ and that’s a fact.

That’s the price for expansion. Not “overly long free time fee”, “over the top LS season 1 & 2 costs” or some such. It’s the price for xpac. And therefore it’s the xpac’s size and content that’s being subject of justified scrutiny and no melodramatic “u.o.us” are gonna work. If the xpac is not worth 50$ in players’ eyes they’re not gonna buy it nor are they obliged to.

You can be an awesome baker and make amazing cakes. But just because i ate 50 times at your place already, doesn’t mean i’ll pay full cake’s price for few brownies on my plate which you advertise as “house’s new special”.

Problem is that to play content in HoT it will cost more than just $50. New profession requires 1 character slot. To play with the new weapons for current professions will be more additional character slots. No one will want to change skills and traits all the time. This expansion was made for people to get additional character slots. So on average, if you are a Vet player, this game will cost more like $70 to $80 if you want to play with the new profession content.

Brand new players will be able to play with the new HoT stuff without spending extra. Vet players will have to pay out additional cash to play with the new HoT stuff.

It’s $60 at most if they do not pre-purchase, are out of character slots, and do not buy the slot with gold. The bolded part doesn’t apply as it’s as ridiculous as Anet needing to provide X number of character slots if they add a new playable race.

Each new profession and/or playable race should have a character slot for each new expansion otherwise they are just milking their Vet players. $60 will be the minimum for those that do not have spare character slots and do not have the spare gold to exchange for gems.

I for one will not be buying HoT at full price. All I would get for full price would be the expansion. I would have to buy additional character slots just so I can try out the new profession. We all know how a PITA switching skills and traits around and soo we make alts. With the new weapons added to current professions, that will require additional character slots. Yep $50 HoT expansion for me would cost nearly $100 so I could play with all that content. Such a great deal for Vet players.

Lets say a few expansions have been released. The way Anet described it would be like this : New players get core game, previous expansion #1, previous expansion #2, and latest expansion #3 all for one price of $50. Vet players get latest expansion #3 for $50. New players get a huge deal as time goes by while Vet players get no deal what so ever.

The core game IS NOT free. It is part of HoT expansion. You will not be able to buy the core game or HoT separately once HoT is released. Each and every future expansion will include the core game + expansions for one price. Vet players should get some kind of deal. Gems, Character Slots, Unique Skins, something at least.
Vet players from GW1 got Hall of Monuments to add to GW2. We got all kinds of stuff if we worked hard enough for it.
What happened to that Anet that loved its Vets?

Except you’re completely ignoring that prices for software decline over time. Look at GW1 since you brought it up. New players can get the entire thing for $50. How much did veterans have to pay to get all of that?

You are right Vets paid full dollar amount for GW1 games. However each of those games was a stand alone game each with tons of content and not expansions except for Eye of the North. Even though, Vets got 2 additional character slots for each stand alone game they bought and 1 for Eye of the North.
Vets in GW2 will get nothing except just HoT. If Anet gave their Vets 2 additional character slots with HoT then this thread would not have blown up like it did.

I paid $50 when I got GW2 a few years ago. Definitely worth the money. I highly doubt that HoT will be worth $50 as an expansion.
GW2 came with 5 playable races, 10 profession classes, loads of zones, many dungeons, several huge boss battles and a personal story that follows you from levels 1 to 80.
HoT expansion brings no new playable races, 1 profession class , and I highly doubt even 3/4 of the content that GW2 players enjoyed when the game first came out.

50€ for an expension is ALOT, for that amount of money u can buy a whole new game. I believe that’s what i paid for the game when it released, so HoT better have atleast 3-4 new dungeons, 6-8 new maps, and alot of new content, or else it aint worth the money.

Old players are getting a slap in the face, if a new players gets a game + update for 50€, and i only get an update, then i want atleast another free account without HoT, and my current account updated, so i could give that “free account without HoT” to a friend or something.

I really dont understand why they didnt create a Game + HoT package, and a seperate HoT package. 50€ for the whole game, and like 25-35€ for HoT would be acceptable.
But ye, i bet they dont earn enough money with the gem store, and wanna leech more from us to keep playing, well i aint buying HoT anytime soon with these prices…

I would be perfectly fine with this.

Extremely horrible pricing model. Paying for something that you already own. I don’t care that GW2 core game comes ‘free’ with HoT. You are basically throwing away an entire account. Current GW2 owners should get something when they purchase HoT other than a throw away account. I would be happy if 2000 Gems came with it.

You’re not paying for something you already own. It’s a free bonus for new accounts/characters.

Then why does it feel like it? And why does so many people agree with me on this?

On a related note, I still have a few old style fractal weapons without stats (they do have damage). when they made new fractal weapons into skins, they took the stats off the old ones for some reason.

Oh nifty. Thanks!

I am going to go ahead and post here since it is about Fractals.

When I log into the game and go into Fractals for the first time with a group I crash to desktop. If I select the same character I get error 19:9:18:1614:101 and cannot log in with that character without restarting the client. If I select a different character after the crash to desktop I do not get any error and can log in normally.
I do not crash to desktop if I go in to Fractals by myself.

I would say this issue happens almost everytime I go in with a group.

This has just started a few weeks ago. Could have been with the Wintersday update or with an update just after Wintersday went live.

Edit: Well it seems that it will crash to desktop if I go in alone afterall. I believe it crashes to desktop about 6 out of 10.

I think the Fractals are very well made and are quite fun.

Phase 1 was interesting but I could not fully enjoy it at all due to the shear amount of players that were doing the event. Even switched overflows and they had the same problem. You couldn’t tell what was attacking you until it was right in your face. Also in extremely populated overflows your attacks would not work reliably. I really did not have fun at all during this event which is a shame because I bet I would have. I feel that all that hard work in designing this event was wasted.

Phase 2 was well designed and was quite fun for the second part. The player base was spread out enough that I could actually see what was going on. Loot drops however were really infrequent. The first part had the same problems as Phase 1 and was quite unenjoyable.

Phase 3 was fantastically designed but I could not fully enjoy it because it had the same problems as Phase 1.

Overall I found the events extremely well designed but only enjoyable in spurts because of the amount of players participating. The player population cap is set far too high for these kind of events. I know a lot of hard work went into these events but I feel that much of that hard work was wasted. I really wanted to enjoy these events and I bet if the player cap was more manageable I would have enjoyed myself a lot.

There is a very noticeable gap that you can see through in the mid-drift area just below the navel with this armor combo. Tier 3 Sorcerers Coat Human Female Cultural Light Armor and Whisperers Leggings Human Female Light Armor.

Female Human Necromancer level 80. Tallest size selected during character creation.

Edit: Apparently this issue is related to the Whisperers Leggings when combined with certain armors This gap across the belly is still visible when I put on an Embroidered Coat and Winged Tunic while wearing the Whisperers Leggings.
