When I clicked on this thread I thought it was going to be about making Norn more distinguishable from humans….
Make sure you’re both playing on the most updated build of the game
Why would a company drive away their player base and make them angry, by gutting professions to make them unplayable. Like berserk spec on warrior.
Is the plan to make it so no one wants to buy your products. Seems like a good idea to me idk about you guys. Good luck getting me to buy your expansion.
Is this how you make arguments as an adult? If something isn’t to your particular liking, obviously it’s a bad idea and doesn’t make sense???
You literally don’t even explain what it is you don’t like about the addition.
So I haven’t used a Mystic Coin since I’ve been playing. Heard they were for legendaries but figured that I can’t play enough to get one so that doesn’t matter.
Just sold all of mine on TP for gold (about 148 coins)
aaaaand…
It turns out according to Wooden Potatoes most recent video that that was a really bad idea.
So I’m sad now.
I think you’re probably referring to the video where he mentions needing a single coin for the weaver weapon collection correct? If you don’t specify the thread will likely derail in into kittening about more mystic coin sinks, just fyi.
Specifically in sPvP.
Apparently metabattle isn’t being updated very often anymore and i’m trying to use some meta builds to start to get my bearings again.
Thanks
I just did this for the 1st time tonight. How is the OP getting 5g?
And dodging and avoiding AoE is cool, but if I have to do it every 2 seconds it gets old really fast.
Would you rather stack in one spot the whole fight and keep spamming 1?
The first boss is ok,but everything after is wtf I’d rather slap my face with dirty socks than play this.
Why would that be your go to bad thing to compare it too? That’s so weird.
^ So I wonder if there will be legendary mounts that offer the same thing?? Oh gosh now I’m feeling a bit dizzy, legendary mounts…..uggghhhh…….!!!!!! Be still my screen exploding with even more particle effects.
Inb4 the first thread asking for legendary mounts.
There 100% will be legendary mounts. The only question is how soon, and how obtrusive.
Also thanks for the above posters for pointing out that there are at least a few skins available in game, albeit through significant effort.
Regardless, I like the idea of mounts, and the obvious fact that they are going to double as vehicle for gem store sales is fine to me. Low cost to entry for the expansion; costs can be recouped with optional purchases.
I just hope they arent tooooo over the top, like this thing….
Based off of the fact that not a single persistent glider skin is available outside of the gem store, coupled with the fact that the expansion is only $30 I can almost guarantee that;
1. There WILL be mount skins,
2. They will most likely only be in the gem store.
:<
Anyways:
GW2 has beautiful and, unlike one of the posters on the first page said, a very interesting set of races and cultures to choose from. Just check the competitors out there: It’s basically human only with a few changes, but still too human.I just pull out one over-rated game, Final Fantasy 14:
The races are, as mentioned above, humans:
- Hyur = Humans
- Roegadyn = Tall Humans
- Mi’Quote = Humans with cat tail
- Elezen = Stretched, giraffe-like humans
- Lalafell = Small, pear-like humans
- Au’Ra = Humans with toy horns bought at Toys’R’Us for €2.99
’
I actually disagree about one set of races in particular. Specifically Norn/Roegadyn. Roes to me are significantly less human looking than Norn. For both the men are huge meat cakes and not just straight up taller. There’s muscle mass, and “bulk”. Roe women also have bulk to some extent. They’re significantly more “toned” or “thick” than other ffxiv females. Norn women are just straight up tall super models.
The big change tho is in their faces. Roegadyn have distinctly non-human facial options, most prominently their noses. It gives them a slightly bestial/alien vibe imo. In addition they have a range of colour palettes of skin tones available to them that Hyurs (humans) don’t. You would have to try very hard to get your Roe to look exactly like a hunan. Norn in contrast might as well have been a simple sub race.
I’d Have to say Norn. Funnily enough though they’re my favourite race. I guess i’m just reiterating what so many have said in here already, but the race is the EPITOME of wasted potential. It’s sad.
Want to make Norn more Unique? Start by making Norn women something more interesting than just really tall supermodels…
My guard is a mix of Zerk and Maurader armour and Cavalier trinkets. However, I have not used her to tank since like February. I have my chrono and necro geared up for that and like it a lot more. Chrono is also preferred because of the sheer amount of Dodge/evade/absorb/block/invuln’s they have.
Although, I have been itching to give my cleric rings and commanders earrings/amulet to my ele so she can be an auramancer healer and tank and pump out fury, regen, and others. But we have not gotten to the point where we get to play like that yet in my static group.
So, sure, you can prolly tank with your guard if you run into a Zerk chrono but if the chrono has commanders gear, you would have to go with Zerk or a diff class. Just as I only use my necro tank when we have a Zerk chrono during our training raids. Especially as it also makes it easier on the healer.
So are chrono mesmers, and necros the meta tanks atm?
I hear what you guys are saying, and thanks for the replies.
Before I left though, I had been working a full knights set (my 1st ascended set). Is that basically useless now, or at least definitely not the best option? or is there anyway I can swap the stats on it for a minor loss?
Ascended crafting is something foreign to me. Only got to 500 armorsmithing because I wanted to raid.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Anthology_of_Heroes
In essence you’re spending 10 spirit shards, 5 ectos, and the cost of whatever exotic level insignia/inscription you want for the new stat type.
You lose your runes though, and your agony infusions if you don’t pull those out first (24s for the thing that pulls that out, the rune puller thingamajig is overpriced and pointless though).
Exactly what I was looking for thanks!
a million times this. i acknowledge the fact that i might not have chosen the ideal wording.
I can understand you somewhat. My question now then is do you think there should be separation between what can be bought, and what can be earned? Or do you think as long as a skin is in the game u should be able to drop money on it with no effort?
…so instead of wasting my time playing the game…
I typed out a whole response and decided against posting it. If you really mean what you said, you and I (and probably many many others) are fundamentally different creatures and no amount of dialogue will change anything.
Good day.
I hear what you guys are saying, and thanks for the replies.

I’m coming back from about a 5-6 month hiatus and I was gearing up with ascended knights because I was mostly tanking during raids. I’m trying to get back into it and i’m now wondering is tanking on a guard still a thing, or shd I be going zerks?
(I almost exclusively play my guard btw).

i don’t mind people to be able to “earn” stuff as long as i can still buy it in the gemshop.
Wat
I started playing FF14 a few days ago and I’m having a blast. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative or secondary mmo. The last time I played the free trial I wasn’t into it, but this time around I’m hooked.
I took a break for GW2 earlier this year into the summer and picked up FF14. It was amazing fun, The story in that game is amazing, especially with Heavensward. Plus I got to be a tank again. Love that kitten.
But after Heavensward launch content dried up. Fast. Basically the Devs had no major updates to the game for about 3-4 months, with the big patch coming out only a little over a week ago.
The game is great, very well made. It definitely will scratch itches that GW2 doesn’t but, The game is old school in a lot of its fundamentals. Grinding and an actual gear treadmill are what I found after a few months of playing. I t felt like work logging in to do dailies to reach my weekly cap for esoterics.
It’s fun, but it’s very old school fundamentally. Just a heads up.
So I’ve been doing a lot of tanking on my guard, still haven’t cleared VG though (mostly PuG). And I’m wondering what anyone else thinks about having dragon hunter as a traitline while maybe making use of half the traits in there.
Is going DH as a tank a waste?
Title says it all. SInce the raid came out I’ve been playing my main, a guardian as only a zerk dragon hunter. I’m interested to get into tanking as I already have a knights set.
How are you guys building in terms of trait lines (can we still call them that), and trinkets and runes and stuff.
I’m starting with basically no knowledge outside of common sense so anything would help
We’ve killed first boss yesterday.
And I felt quite usefull.Dropping blocks on demand so we could do a bit more damage without dodging out of the blue circles. And my melee damage was pretty high. Seeing up to 35K GS 2 skill in my screen.
Also when one of our Green Circle people got downed – I was the one going there with Mercifull Intervention. Also the fact you barely do any Cripple or Slows as a guardian works quite well with the tactic we used.
I’m really curious about the build you were using? Could you share?
It is not so much that they are an eyesore currently; although they kind of are. It is that, like any commercial for a product you have no interest in, it will most likely only get more pronounced as time goes by.
I am sure in the early years of TV many of the commercials were considered a “cute” way to sell your product but look at where we are now!
Actually the opposite has happened. On the top right in game, its a tiny notification, that I never noticed until this thread, because there’s ALWAYS stuff there anyway. And on the loading screens It used to be in the middle, but now they changed it to the top in a thin header.
Obviously that’s not enough though. GW2 should d o whatever we want, whenever we want only about the things we like as individuals. The fact that that’s impossible is only a minor difficulty.
Or just don’t be a baby and endure it for 1 day? Realize that it may not interest you but it might interest other people?
Give up dude. If people put forward the effort to make a thread about this, then reasoning is not an option.
9,000? Compare it to League of Legends 32,000,000
You would think it would give ArenaNet the hint they should fix and improve PvPCompare it to the Super Bowl and GW2 is pathetic. What’s your point? The money rewards and viewership keep climbing exponentially. It’s not hurting anyone for them to say the match is going on, and it’s helping a lot of people. What’s the problem here? Should they stop helping people?
Why are people wetting their pants because anet is telling us that something is happening that we want to watch? Because a handful of PvE players are offended by it for no reason, and it’s disturbing their loading screen? No.
No no, the text on loading screens is obviously hurting these people.
How is this significant. It’s words on a screen. It’ll be gone soon. Why does this warrant being talked about?
If you don’t like it fine. Why are you on the forums whining about why you don’t like it? Group approval? Solidarity? Text-abolitionist movement scouting????
Burn guards are definitely still a thing in pvp. I’d be more interested in finding out if someone’s tried to run a burn guard in the raid?
There’s only one build I’ve tried using on metabattle. I’m brand new to condi of any kind. Any idea where I might find other builds/resources?
I’m actually wondering this about pvp. Are burn guards still a thing?
“the grouping wall”
Is having to walk a gravity wall? Is having to use your hands to play the game a motor function wall?" Is needing to be corporeal an existence wall?
I have no opinion on this either way, but hearing regular parts of the game people don’t like being referred to as hard limits is getting extremely annoying…
How is this any different from what has been happening in the game since launch?
Um, what is Zerk meta Alex?
What’s always hilarious to me is that people who have never actually played Wildstar always bring it up about why raids alone are what killed it.
That game a myriad of problems with it long after launch
Before coming back to GW2 for HoT, I was playing FFXIV. In that game I considered my self both a casual and a raider. (you could do each wing of alexander normal in ~20-30 mins). I never did Savage cuz that was hard as balls and I didn’t have the time.(I was gearing up for it in anticipation though).
I think GW2 can fulfil that same idea.
…Just as long as rewards are appropriate and both modes are available simultaneously.
I can weigh in on a very similar example that was already touched on in this thread.
In FFXIV: Heavensward, the new expansion, the game devs heard player feedback about almost exactly what ppl including OP are talking about in terms of wanting to experience raids (The story, the area, the feel, etc) despite not having the commitment or skill to actually do the raid.
Enter Alexander Normal, and eventually Alex Savage.
Shortly after the release of the Heavensward expansion Alex normal mode came out, and was a significantly easier raid than previous ones in the game. The reason for this was to facilitate ppl wanting to experience the story but couldn’t due to difficulty. The hardest of the hardcore weren’t to be ignored either however because sometime after (I think ~1month?) Alex Savage mode released which was more comparable to the old hardcore raids. Essentially the same raid, differing rewards.
This is where the problems start.
Alex normal came out long before Alex savage, and was essentially the endest endgame for everyone. This caused both hardcore, and I guess ‘midcore’ players to farm the kitten out of that, to the point when savage did come out, people were so burnout of the same raid that interest even with the higher difficulty, was low.
What went wrong?
They we’rent released at the same time. Like I previously stated. Others in this thread have pointed out that a farmable normal mode cheapens the hard one because
1) farming might end up being more efficient on the normal one (defeating the purpose of hard passed the initial challenge) and
2)people will get burnt out doing the normal mode if it isn’t just as accessible as normal mode at release.
Wut do?
I kind of agree with OP. Kind of. I see the purpose of the normal mode, but I think it’s purpose should be made very clear. Normal mode is Story mode not alternate easy version mode. And as a result the rewards should be heavily nerfed compared to the hard version, in terms of quantity of loot, in having objectively lesser quality rewards. They should be way to experience a raid when you lack the ability NOT a substitute.
World bosses are even worse than raids, and raids have been awful, the only reason world bosses seem fine is because they’re tuned to be easily completable.
What they should have done is made more challenging solo content. When you start forcing groups just to get through things, it turns into a lottery of whether or not you happen to get other people that can manage the encounters.
Every group I found ended up with issues where people were having difficulty avoiding mechanics, and, unlike dungeons, I couldn’t just do everything for them with a single build. If I stopped healing, and let the other two healers handle it alone, people started dying to orbs and green circles that they either all moved in to, or only one other person moved into, if I started healing, we ended up with no condition damage and got killed by the timer, etc.
It’s hard to feel as though you have any influence over the outcome when no matter how you adjust things to try and fix shortcomings, the biggest impact on your success or failure is going to be the other members of the group.
Because raids were supposed to be winnable with groups of randoms….
Also have to disagree with the OP, and I’m also the polar opposite on most of the things you enjoyed.
World bosses to me are the gimmick not raids. You run into an instance with 100 other players that you don’t care about to auto-attack a giant target that uses mechanics that most people don’t understand and completely ignore to get some RNG chest with nothing in it. A raid is a raid because it forces co-ordination, to make you feel like your part of team effort.
Your dragon stand idea i didn’t flatout dislike, but the thing is it already exists…as dragon’s stand.
No, basically all PvE in this game has been less about being part of a team and simply being a DPS bot that happens to be either in a party or zerg with other dps bots.
With raids you have a job, you have a purpose, your team relies on you for more than just increased dps output. You are important to the effort in multiple ways and you feel like that when your team does well.
If it wasn’t for raids, I’d never have bought HoT.
Man people were starved for content…
HoT launched with nothing except for event chains for group content, so yeah.
It’s the most fun I’ve personally had in this game in years.
I wonder what else in Tyria isn’t as it seems….?
Did you expect another 150 in the expansion that was developed in considerably less time than the core game was developed in? Of course you can.
Next, content X wasn’t worth the $50 and I don’t care about content U, V, W, Y and Z so don’t bring it up.
Please do not presume to know what my unstated thoughts and intentions are. If you feel a certain way about something, cool. Say what you want and make an argument. Do not mindlessly denigrate someone else and then assume you know what theyre about.
I don’t expect 150 skins, but i sure as hell didn’t expect 13. Whats worse is based on historic evidence, we probably aren’t going to ever get that many more until the next expansion.
The point of of my post was to highlight disparity. for some reason you translated that into something else.
@Cure for living
No it’s not 5 armor sets. Check your info again. If we are saying that one full armor for all 3 weight classes is a ‘set’ then mistward cannot count as 1. So 3 actual armor sets + 1/3 set+1 legendary. That’s ~4.3 sets of armor.
In general on topic:
If we are even calling it 10 sets…for the sake of making it sound larger than it is, then compare that to what the base game came with. If individual armor for a weight,+ the ones you can’t wear on one character are being counted together, then the base game launched with ~150 armor sets.
In the game right now there are:
65 Heavy sets
64 Medium sets
65 Light sets
Between launch up until HoTs;
~12 sets per weight were added (2 of which are recolours)
Not counting gem store sets;
~5 sets were added per weight (1 being a recolour)
Per weight class, HoT has added;
3+guild, Heavy sets
2+guild, Medium sets
2+guild, medium sets
With legendary adding on 1 more set for each.
So finally, if we’re talking aggregate numbers;
~150 sets were available at launch
~36 sets became available over time (~only 15 of which didnt require gems)
leaving us which a grand total of ~186 full armor skin sets right before HoTs
HoTs has added 10.
The promise of legendary armor brings this up to 13. Compare 13 with ~186, or even ~150. Are you ok with this?
Sorry, the new Halloween outfit doesn’t count, we would have gotten it if HoT launched that day or not.
Lets see, Crystal Arbiter and Lyssa’s.
Wow, what universe is 2 less than, by your count, 3 (but really 4, Blade, Leystone, Guild and Mistward )?
And starting next week we’ll can start to earn the now Legendary armor with their skins.
And I don’t have a lot of armor skins in my wardrobe, certainly not gem shop ones except one from the deluxe pack. I am working on getting all the in-game ones but I don’t play in certain areas enough to encounter them all or have the crafting professions to craft others. Then there the dungeon, fractal and WvW skins that I haven’t bothered to buy.
It’s people like this enabling them that Anet has no reason to make armor sets. GW2 is the only MMO where the only cosmetic gear you can hope to achieve passed launch is an outfit.
It’s basically the same argument of numbers of continuous subs versus accounts created.
People are defending this.
Yeah there are plenty of new armor skins in HoT.
…wut
Ok, this has been all very helpful guys. One more question though. I’m about to craft my ascended soldiers chest piece. the last part i need is the 3rd damask patch for the insignia. Should I actually make the soldier chest, i invest in buying the knight’s insignia instead 1st?
Hey all,
I’m looking for a ‘middle-of-the-road’ gear set to make for my 1st ascended armor set. SO far I’ve been playing in exotic soldier’s but I’m looking to step it up in preparation for raids.
I’ve heard that knight’s is actually more dps oriented than soldier’s is, but with decent defensive stats. To be clear, i’d like to have a balance of offense and defense since I play guardian, but with slightly more emphasis on offense.
So soldier’s Knight’s or something else?
I was aware that there was a system to changes gear’s stats, but i’m assuming that would be pretty expensive, and I am almost flat broke crafting right now. I really don’t know how to make money in this game.
I might switch to knights then, I didn’t realize that soldier’s was still on the lower dps end.
So I’m making my very 1st set of ascended gear in anticipation for raids in the next few weeks, and I realize i’m not sure what even to prepare for. Up until now I’ve been playing with exotic soldier’s gear. I’ve already crafted my ascended chest, and it’s also soldier’s stats.
What I’m realizing now, is that I’m now sure what kind of role I should be trying to fit into into the upcoming raids, or even what role i want to fit into.
Idk, soldiers always been my thing, decent damage, with survivability. Never really been a min-maxer, my question now is this: Is soldier’s considered a very middle of the road build? and if so, should I throw in some zerker accessories?
When did Arenanet ever explicitly state that GW2 specifically targets casuals? Show me this so I can finally stop being confused.
Look at your elite specialization collections.
That’s where I thought it was. This thread confused me.
My bad, I didn’t know that’s where they were. I have legitimately never paid attention to collections, so sorry for causing confusion.
On second look, the bow i currently have looks a lot like this one minus the golden bits. Also @lorephoenix, the starting reaper GS looks like an unfinished version of the one in the trailer.
Is there something we have to do to ‘complete’ the weapons?
