GW2 after some time...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

In a very heartfelt, sincere way, I would like to ask if Guild Wars 2 has managed to get any “better.” Coming from playing Guild Wars, from release and still to this day… I was more than displeased to find pvp in GW2 to be a button mash and the pve to be more of less a follow the leader through a semi-meaningful, in regards to the actual progression of the game.

I came into beta, expecting actual dynamic events, not quest counters that were meters instead of numbers.

I am re-installing Guild Wars 2 to take a glance at it myself, but I would like some honest feedback. What has changed since release? Has the question system made any progress as far as becoming more dynamic? Has the pvp been developed to allow for more skill, less zerg?

I was always taken by the beauty of the Guild Wars engine; I still stop and enjoy its splendor. However, pretty looks cannot keep my attention for too long. Guild Wars 1 is finally dying down to the point that it is getting hard to find groups in many parts of the game. Should it die entirely, I will simply move on to a different genre.

Guild Wars will always have a place in my heart. I would love to see Guild Wars 2 progress past a money squeeze and into a fruitful world of adventure.

Thank you.

What is Causing People Not To Play GW2?

Personally, it is how the staff deal with things. Anything against their point of view is removed, even if it is not offensive. On top of that, the in game market seems to lean much further toward market profitability than actual interest in providing players a source of cool items to buy casually.

The other thing, is that many people feel like the skills get repetitive and get tired of basically repeating the same content over and over again.

As a closer: Although this thread is still open, all of the information has been completed, I’ve just yet to post it. I work wild shifts of 2am starts, and midnight finishers. Between 3 jobs I’m pretty busy. I’m actually supposed to be submitting this entire article to someone who is making a video about it. (I’ve been procrastinating on getting the last but of info to him.) xD

Around the same time the video goes out, covering all of this for everyone to see, even those not active on the forums, I will submit the entire volume to Anet, regardless if they accept the idea or not.

If nothing else, it will be made public, the potential flaws of the system. Even just searching youtube, GW2 is nothing but “Ways to farm” and repeated generic pvp builds. Still pointless* grind, still facerolls. Still WoW with a new quest system.

And on top of that, I’m working with some friends on CryEngine to create some stuff for their game design classes. Overall I’ve quit GW2, boycotted it for the most part and moved on to more productive parts of the world. To developers who are against over-simplified formats for people that like free roaming, intellectually excluding games.

If you are in love with current games such as this, more power to you. Do not let me stand in your way. I’ll be here reminiscing about previous games that required thought to play and providing (possibly unwanted) feedback, just because it exercises my mind.

Another fun side project, might be a media push against Anet, in favor of throwing out simplistic gameplay. People who take their time actually designing the game, submitting it, without pay. Just because we can.

Long ago, in Starsiege: Tribes, many people got together and designed Tribes RPG. One of the hugest mods I’ve seen of all times. Since then, I’ve always been in favor of work over promotion. I’d much rather design, or fight for a niche game than a game that appeals to the (in my opinion) ever increasing number of simple minded organisms who would rather press buttons that learn how to play a game.

People have this mindset that everything should be handed to them. No work involved. If you want a healthy, balanced, delicious meal, you learn to cook it yourself, or you get rich. Stop buying the media hyped Yakkington milk and learn to exercise your mind. Learn new skills, take the time to read things every once in a while, learn to play games without using quest markers. Pay attention, be smart, be well.

Get rid of your trolling. You do yourself no kind favor, you simply reduce your iq.

And in case a moderator want to get mad at me:
Ignorance: “Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular”
Choosing to define a lack of knowledge as offensive, is you own wrong doing. Nothing wrong with not knowing as long as you are open to learn.

Do not come here to insult my intelligence, unless you are able to back what you say. Legitimately prove to me that you have backing to your little complaints.

You are right, I do not write to cater toward the ignorant, the lazy, the uneducated. I write with enough information for a person truly interested in game design and mechanics to be able to understand every detail without having to writing a book about it. As that is the type of people I would like commentary from: those who actually, truly care. I have even taken the time to make the text accessible to those with lesser interest. People like you however, simply choose to overlook that and have forgotten the high school basics of looking for key words or ideas pertaining to your interest level.

As for being a waste of digital space:
I’d rather post educated texts than wander about the forums complaining about how long someone’s post is. End point being: You waste both of our time by making such silly claims. If you are uninterested in the design, do not even bother commenting.

This post is not here for you to whine about length.
This post is not here for those with no, lack of, or low interest.
This post is here for those who are deeply interested in the under-workings of the game, it’s mechanics and it’s deeper core.
If you want simple, go to sPvP sub., create a topic, type “this build is OP, fix it.”

If you are not intensely interested in this development, I have little to no interest in what you have to say. I have met up with, discussed, formulated, revised, abridged, improved and implemented countless ideas with a large number of players. In forums and out. All of which have an interest that far surpasses the people, such as yourself who log on simple to complain on a productive thread.

A large reason why many of us do not post here, is because we talk on skype, in game, email or alternative sources of communication. Many people post here simply because we want to keep the topic alive while I work on it. Or, because I ask people to look over new content. Those interested will look, those not, will not. I’m perfectly fine with weeding out the disinterested, the lazy and the trolls.

Length is not present because it is required to understand the topic. (As you seem to think.) Length is present for those who would like to understand more about the topic. You can get the “I think this should change because of, and this is why” simply from looking at the bold or the start of the thread. Everything following it is progressively deeper.

In all seriousness, stop wasting my time and “digital space” with complaints that are entirely invalid. I’d be more than happy to have a friendly conversation with you if you would stop logging in to whine without providing a true cause.

Give and example of how it it “too much.” Show me one item that could be broken down and still retain the elements needed to keep it from being misconstrued.

you might want to look up the term “concise”, but i digress.

even if this is your “edited and compacted” version of a much longer post, it’s still very long. i’m not telling you to say something as raw as “add new skills”, i’m just asking you to be to the point. you want new skill systems? cool. say how they would work, the reasons it wouldn’t break the balance if properly managed, and why do you think it has to be added. don’t go in too much detail, because on a suggestions board, that’s a waste of digital space.

a perfect example of a combat suggestion thread done right is the one going on about new uses for the endurance bar. every post is one, two paragraphs at most, which means more people are willing to read and discuss the suggestions, and everything is presented in a crystal clear, concise format.

it has nothing to do with not liking to read, it has to do with being good at writing, and not drag for too long. no one likes long winded ramblings, much less when only a fraction of what the rambles are saying (the “core concept”) matter.

Sorry, but I get a bunch of people coming here, who, if not hand fed details, whine and complain. And other the other side, I get those angry Ettins like yourself who come to try and troll me for not being “concise.” There is a difference between “concise and to the point,” and “concise and educated.”

You are right, I’d rather give you some flesh than tell you to chew a bone. If you do not feel like reading it, skip along. I’ve read every single post in this thread multiple times.

“say how they would work, the reasons it wouldn’t break the balance if properly managed,”
Check.
“and why do you think it has to be added.”
Check.
“don’t go in too much detail, because on a suggestions board, that’s a waste of digital space.”
Ignorance. Tell me dear sir, what should be excluded? Since I’m too stupid to figure it out on my own.

As for too much information, I suggest learning skimming. Nobody asked you to read every single inch, and I’d rather you not if you are going to whine about it. I could care less about the lazy people’s commentary.

Foremost though, lack of interest is your only excuse. What you see as a ‘jumble of text’ is simply an idea broken down for those who are interested, to be able to review. The text has progressive complexity …meaning that it has an order that gradually incorporates deeper elements the more you read. Every listed element included, MUST be included, or the whole basis would become misinterpreted. (Which still happens on occasion; not nearly as much as before the abridged version.)
Bullet points, for those only interested in the general idea.
Bold, for those like you who do not care to read the fine details, but are interested in functionality and how the subject applies to them directly.
Unbolded, the fine details, for those willing to read for a little longer.

my suggestion is not one i particularly think would work, but it’s a nice direction they could go with.

eventually, we’ll run out of weapons to give the players. then comes the time where you need to expand on the existing weapons. how? my idea are actually two, and i think it’s a “one or the other” situation. together, they’d just mess everything up and be too complicated.

the first idea is give alternate skill sets to a weapon. so if a greatsword gives you certain 5 skills, you could opt on the hero panel to use another set of 5. you could pick either one set or another, but not mix and match them. that way you have essentially two weapons in one weapon type. for all practical effects, picking which set to use would function just like picking which weapon to use, so you wouldn’t be able to switch between skills unless you have the same weapon on both weapon sets

.

the second idea is adding weapon traits. if you’ve played diablo 3, think of that. essentially, you can equip each skill with one of a few “traits” that change its properties. for example, a thief’s unload could have a trait that makes the skill fire in a cone, rather than forward. this kind of improvement would add a lot of depth to weapon skills, and could potentially lead to a myriad of new combinations.

of course, the downside here is that a revamp of that magnitude to existing skills would shake the balance heavily, and many weapon skills just aren’t interesting enough to have all these different “flavors” added.

You realize that is basically a dumbed down version of everything on my post, right?

-Cone effect would be an Effect.
-You simply removed mixing and matching from my current setup.

>.> Just saying.

i’ll be honest, this thread is full of posts that are way too long for me to read, much less the devs that have hundreds of topics to go through as well as work on the game. keep it condensed, keep it a core concept. devs aren’t going to copy your posts into the code no matter how amazing they are, so instead you should focus on giving concise suggestions.

This made me laugh so hard I actually choked on my drink.
Obviously you did not read the previous draft that led up to this concise version. I am not a politician. I am not here to say “Vote for me” as a shorthand for all of my propositions. I am going to make sure I can list every single point I have in a few characters as I can, and not lose the original focus.

If I was here just to spit words, I would be in the sPvP thread. The developers do read my posts, quite often. I know this for a fact because I have talked with, and been infracted by them for getting overly zealous.

Also. If I say, “Add more skill” people’s response will be “no” or “yes.” Nothing intelligent, no productivity. Although you, and possibly many others may be content with incomplete, or lacking content, I pride myself on doing every bit of research and accumulating it into a concise source.

If this concise version is too large for you, I suggest picking up a novel, or picking up a sport that you are extremely good at and letting the coaches do the reading and tell you what to do.

Part of being well informed is being able and willing to read. If this does not interest you, you are more than welcome to skip the thread. No need for a comment about length. Because many others are happy with the length.

Thanks for the understanding.

More buttons and skills doesn’t mean the game is better, and it definitely does not mean being more “pro” requires more buttons.

GW2 is a different MMO, and I like how they designed it. Not saying your ideas are wrong or anything… but take some consideration of the players who enjoy GW2 for its differences from other MMOs.

On a side note, if anyone here used to be an old school FPS CS gamer, you’ll agree a game doesn’t have to be fun because it has more buttons.

There’s a pretty understandable reason for having less buttons in a game. It allows the players to expand their skill sets into movement and reaction instead of being focused on having to have the right buttons and stuff at the right spot or having special keybinds and all. The simplified buttons and class mechanics allow us to go back to a time where games were made with less buttons, and lets us focus more on strategy, movement, and reaction.

I’m sorry, but simply being able to say yes and no does not mean I am having an intelligent conversation. The realm of having a skill based game has to do with options, it has to do with grey and white and black. It has to deal with more than facerolling. From a programming standpoint, and from the hours I have personally put into taking apart the system, I can tell you with no doubt, that this game falls under “very simplistic” movements. The only outstanding factor is that you are able to move in all directions. The only direction you currently had that you never had before, was a jump function and a swimming function. The skills in this game are limited even more. So far in fact, that you can successful perform just as well as a skill player by meshing nearly all of your buttons.

You are right, number does not determine skill. The quality of the skills do. And the skill quality is inferior at the moment, thus in order to add variety and creativity, and thus playability, the game needs more/better designed skills.

I’d love to sit down more and type but I’m pretty busy at the moment. If you are at all interested in hearing me say more in regards to this, I’m sure I’ve covered it someone in this thread, or it’s previous draft.

Thanks for your time.

I dont want 58 skills per character..if you want a game like WoW so much..go play WoW..the most Id want is more weapon slots and less cooldown on swapping weapons

I understand wow as very popular (To some) but it isn’t the ONLY successful MMO to compare to this game. Many others were very well respected and worked great while having dozens of skills, even 100s. FFXI b4 all the abyssea garbage came out was supurb at diversity. Every “Job” as they called them was played because every job offered something different and unique to bring to the table. There was some Jobs that were literlly mixes of 2 other Jobs and yet they were played because of how they combined them offering unique playstyles, skins, and some different “utility” skills. Its ideas like these that dont unbalance the game and break it, rather offer options. You can never have “Balance” in an MMO. If this game was truely “Balanced” there would be 1 profession and all players would have the same kit of skills to choose from. The goal is to make things as close to balance as possible which means it is flexible to a point. Adding new skills doens’t unbalance anything unless you make the skill to be unbalanced.

Exactly. Very well put!

Pet Customization

Graevarg, no.
I’m pretty sure that limit is to prevent people from being able to fit sentences onto their pets rather than names. The average American name is only about 10 characters or less. Text takes up so little space that it is ridiculous. You comment is about as silly as me saying that having 200 work documents would max out my 8gb harddrive.

I’d love for someone to link me to the official announcement that pet names is just “too much data.” We wouldn’t be having Halloween if that was true. TOO MUCH DATA. You mining 1 ore, puts out for more data than a name. Each strike must calculate what chance you have to receive a gem etc. It must track you -1 your equipment, it must add the item to your inventory, etc. When I worked with Starsiege Tribes: RPG mod, renaming pets was as simple as having a text file that listed each pets name. When you typed #savepetname, it saved “LanceHavenbay: Petnameis; Joey” end of story. And then you had the server save a backup file in case things went sour.

I really would like to know which developer said that it would be too much data to have pet names. Saying names take up too much data is wholly untrue. Think about it. Compare text data with even data. If text data made a dent, Guild Wars 2 would not be able to be developed past its current state.

Ari Kagura, you missed my post.
“They dye options will not be ridiculous. They will be small, channels on the creature. Like the widow mark being able to be made blue rather than red.
You are making this far more complex that it is intended to be. Not every single valid inch of the creature will be dyeable. :P”
The polar bear would not be black. Pleeeaasseee read before you post. A polar bear example would be: Large/small body size scale, nose length scale, claw scare, eye width scale. Making his fur more shaggy, of fine. Is he dusty? Does he have a scar on his face? A collar on his neck?
Each pet will no have identical customization. A polar bear must be white. Just in the same wear armor was dyed in Guild Wars 2, your colors/features will not misrepresent the creature from what is is.
Examples of customization:
-Snout size/length slider.
-Eye width slider
-Claw size slider
-Fur/feather pattern options
-Fur (limited) colors.
-Bluish white rather than solid white, dirty white. etc. (Polar bear)
-Tail length slider
-Horn length slider
-Horn (limited) colors
-Facial/body scars/markings. (Discrete.)
-Collars, piercings.
-Festive hats (Santa hat for your polar bear, moa etc.)

If everything is spoonfed, there’s no fun in it. People will get bored fast and lead to another “no end-game disaster”. A good mmo should have some content that will constantly appeal players to log into the game.

This game already spoon feeds you everything. It is only alive because people have no had time to exploit its few values

Being forced to make furniture every week would put quite a burden on the developers. As for mandatory: If you tell many people they “must” you guild will be empty in no time. If your Guild is good, I will donate on my own.

Cosmetics is the great all be-all end game solution. It worked perfectly for Guild Wars 1. Problem now, is we have nearly nothing from Guild Wars 1 inside of 2, and the game is very restricting. Limited. Bland.

The only was to make end game not be cosmetic, is to add grind or progression of some kind.

Dungeons and the anti-farm code.

So, I would like to ask (everyone) about the Dungeon farm code and how it effects players.

Would it not be better to simply limit drops/make it so you cannot salvage dungeon armor? After all, your character needs to be level 80 anyways to wear it. What is the harm in accumulating excessive tokens?

It is an extremely bizarre concept to have to keep track of which routes you did to prevent punishment. You do a dungeon and then find out (for those not taking part in forums etc) that you get diminished rewards. What if they do not know the cause and think they can only do a dungeon once a day?

Some of these may already be true. but I find it would make the game much friendlier if:
-Dungeon armor cannot be salvaged
-Tokens are soulbound.
-Only apply diminishing rewards to cash rewards
-(and possibly) drops for excessive routes being done.

If any of you want to clarify the dungeon anti-farm for me, that would be great.

Otherwise, I feel like this is a poorly execute anti-farm policy that is taking some of the fun/accessibility from dungeons.

I also would like to see more progressive chambers being unlocked after killing foes, as nearly every single group skips at least 2-3 chambers.

Lillium,
I believe you worded everything perfectly. Very nicely said,; I cannot agree with you more.

Renting is just all bad. Let me put it this way, even without bots. Someone plays the game more/has more gold, you will get kicked out of your home because they play more. Simple as that. THAT, or it is first come, first serve, and you never get a home. Instanced is the only way to go for everyone to get a home, and have the home be a fair price for all, even those who play the game for a social life more than a grind.

I am ok with Gems for housing, but I want it to be a set amount/fix rate because I do not want my house to inflate ridiculously. Having gems up as a option, allows people who really want the house more than anything else, to spend money to help the developers have more money to put into the game. And you can always convert Gold into gems.

I would however, like to see items earned exclusively from completing in game titles/events.

Mounts. lol. As in the head of a monster, glued to a piece of decorative wood and nailed to your wall. :P Google it please. xD

My reasons for instanced neighborhoods:
-Houses belong in cities., not in the wilderness.
-When I quest, I do not want to find houses. I want to find jumping puzzles and dungeons.
-When I leave the city, I do not want to go out of my way to impede on other people’s property, nor do I want other people intruding mine.
-Any proposed landslots you’ve mentioned… Everywhere I’ve been, you cannot place a house without ruining the atmosphere.
-This is a role-playing game. Not Second Life. I want this to be my (and my friend/guild’s) epic journey. Not my journey mixed with millions of people and their houses.
-Having plotting land limits the user’s decorations to only items that match the surroundings. I want my house to be my house. Not fit into specific guidelines like those people living in gated communities with set rules on which trees you have and what color your house paint must be.

Here are my ideas for items/pricing:

List of some things that can fit into each category:

Small:

  • Beds, all books(have separate prices), cabinets, clocks, all dishware(have separate prices), fences, fountains, garden gnomes, plants, stone steps, wall mount, windows.

Medium:

  • Beds, cabinets, clocks, dresser, fences, fountains, garden dwarves, all lights, plants, rug, stone steps, wall mount, windows.

Large

  • Beds, Grandfather Clocks, dressers, fountains, fireplaces, gazebos, rugs, life-size statues, trees, wall-mounts, windows.

Epic:

  • -Beds, fireplaces, larger-than-life statues of yourself(Legendary only), wall-mounts.

-Fences. You unlock that style of fence, but it has an unlimited supply.
    -Stone steps.

Then you can buy 10 Large, Legendary Garden Statues and create an epic stone-war in your frontyard. xD For 40g. xD

2 Large, Legendary Mounts 8g
2 Medium, Legendary Mounts 6g
3 Small, Legendary Mounts 4g 50s

23g 50s more.

  • So I mean, MAXING your house would cost a lot. But a pretty awesome house is still totally attainable with these prices.

My justifications:
1. I do not play much at I still have earned 4g after release.
2. Seems like a few people have Commanders books… Those are 100g a pop.
3. Houses are not supposed to be maxed instantly. They grow over time.
4. In all honestly, not everyone is going to want a Legendary house.
5. For someone that simply plays the game for fun, can easily accumulate enough wealth to progressively fill their house.

For a moderate, completely filled house, with a Legendary or two, it should only run you about 100g. Which should easily be obtainable if you plan to play Guild Wars for a decent duration. (That’s what the developers want anyways.)

The idea is not to buy everything. The idea is to represent yourself. And you can do that without having to buy everything ever. People like myself do not like outrageous houses. We like it clean, quite, and maybe a few Legendary Statues next to our huge kitten pool…

I think I made a typo and numbers maybe be like, 10g off. But this is just a general idea.

  • Although I would like to see the house items sold via gems, I would also like to see the house items be regulated at a set coin price… I do not want to see my pool cost 2x the price overnight.

If you have any arguments against these pricings, please do make them.

Rurik Telmonkin,

  • YESSSS!! Perfect. That to me sounds like the IDEAL method to deal with housing. Every Guild gets an instanced neighborhood that can fit the maximum possible Guild Population Cap. And in the same way you would enter the same dungeon as random strangers, you cannot enter the neighborhood unless you are in that guild OR in a party with that Guild Member.
  • This would make it possible to have many neighborhoods without clogging up the scenic aspect of Guild Wars 2. This also makes it so that your neighborhood is truly only being shared with those who matter to you and are not obnoxiously bothering other players.

*Please do not add rent. >.> Many of us simply do not have time to manage two lives. I would be more that happy to buy furniture etc using gems. (Keep them on the cheaper end please) *

And to make up for the low prices, simply add more content to allow more purchase options. Many people (Like myself) like to buy many things to fit into our houses. Others, simply cannot afford this and would like to keep the same items in our house all year round.

Hopefully prices will look something like this:

Holiday items events give free items to decorate your house:
-Jack o’lantern can be obtained every year by doing some events or mini-games.

Have game accomplishments earn you decorations specifically for what you did:
-Win 1st in a sPvP Tourney and get a cool statue for your garden. etc
-Each and every title you can earn in game, gives you an unique decoration that can be added to your house. Whether it be a clock, a garden decoration, a floor mat, etc.

This would be a GREAT way to give players end-game without making anyone perform better than someone else. It gives you reason to take pride in what you do.

Make sure to have all items fully movable, even dish sets. Aka, fork, knife, etc can be moved in all directions. X, Y, Z axis, with tilt and rotation feature.

How are hats less intrusive? They dye options will not be ridiculous. They will be small, channels on the creature. Like the widow mark being able to be made blue rather than red.

You are making this far more complex that it is intended to be. Not every single valid inch of the creature will be dyeable. :P

Your lizard will not become a dragon. Your Moa will not be 200 different colors. Maybe his beak will be different. Maybe slightly larger wings.

Please do not assume that everything will be ridiculousness complex and game-wrecking. Another thing to consider, like GW1, dyes will apply different to each creature as their fur, etc will will to keep a certain shade/color. So red would look different on two different creatures.

Why did you guys buy GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LanceHavenbay.2067

LanceHavenbay.2067

I bought it because I thought it was Guild Wars 2, not “another MMO with Guild Wars lore”.

Learned my lesson I suppose.

Story of my life. xD

To elaborate, the first PC game I even played was… Need for Speed? On my dad’s computer. Not soon after, I was introduced to Starsiege: Tribes and proceeded to playing that every day of my life, obsessively. I would hide in my room as a kid, or skip school just to play it. xD Then I got hooked on Diablo 2… Then, my brothers and I tried Runescape. I did not like it from the start. It sucked. >.> I immediately typed in “Free MMORPG” and found Guild Wars 1. I downloaded the client and found out I needed to buy it, AFTER I already had the client up… Sure enough, I bought it with my chore money asap. The loading screen, (Campfire) just screened epicness to me as a child. I downloaded the game, and ended up staying in Pre-Searing, with my E/N pretending I was a super-necro. I pretty much did not advance in the game till after a year. I was having so much fun in Old-Ascalon. lol. Around the 1 year mark, I actually began to do missions and get involved. I was already so in love, and feel for the game more. Guild Wars 1 was the only game I’ve ever played where I would actually look forward to it’s holiday events more than my own holidays. (There was not much to do where I lived.) I could tell you pretty much anything about Guild Wars. I breathed it. I knew everything by heart. It was not until EoTN/and HoM calculator that I stepped up and started doing things for myself. Most of the time on Guild Wars 1, I was just socially involved, helping everyone I ever met. I ended up doing (enjoyable) title grind with Fort Aspenwood etc. I remember hearing the hype for Guild Wars 2, and was supe excited, even if their profession trailers were very dull. They were going to “improve” the game I loved so much. Getting rid of instances sounded fun, as did having Dynamic events. I bought Collectors for Guild Wars 2, because as a child I could not afford it on the other games.

I was fairly disappointed during beta, but did not have internet at the time, and was unable to fully contribute during the developing stage. I would bring my laptop and camp out at Starbucks parking lots just to explore the game.

Upon release, I was overall satisfied, but felt the game was lacking some very important aspects. Which I promptly set out to fix.

Just as Zii said, I was really hoping GW2 was not going to be just another MMO with Guild Wars Lore. But sadly, that is what it seems to be. :/ All an all, I would give Guild Wars 2 a 7/10.

That is my life story. xD

The only conflict I see is exchanging real life items for currency. And I’m in your shoes. No clue how far that goes.

Blueroseknight,
I love Trahearne. Thanks. xD I still like a Hero. That’s like saying a Soldier cannot be a Hero.

To Dimgl,
You obviously did not even read CelticWish’s post. xD

Scyte,
“You expect more than Arenanet could offer you.”

List of things that could have very easily been added before release:
-Proper “target closest enemy” function.
-Attack and defend map for PvP so people do not have to grind sPvP and WvWvW.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Abridged-Fort-Aspenwood/
-A better call-target system. They epically downgraded from Guild Wars 1.
-More emotes. That is simple enough. Again, epically downgraded from Guild Wars 1.
-Added a few more skills so that players do not get stuck being forced to use a specific weapon for a specific role:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Abridged-Improved-Combat-System/
-Added a costume feature to allow people to easily use costumes and promote more “Style” tab sales in the Trading Post:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Costumes/
-Have titles grant you effects like Guild Wars 1. Such as salvaging bonuses, etc.:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Abridged-Titles-and-their-Purpose/

  • Although I have not designed games that have been released, (Due to lack of interest, and lack of money for cool software and servers) I have spent lots of time designing/modding existing games. I have written dynamic events long before Guild Wars. When Starsiege Tribes: RPG mod was released, I created so many “event,” you cannot even imagine. And I scripted the .CS files meticulously using Notepad. I even went and using Paint to make texture and create my own furniture to add to the game. I made weapon sounds, voice effects, etc. All of this was done a terrible computer with very little resources available to me.

Not having these features, is simply inexcusable on Anet’s part. Delay release for a simple 3 weeks, and you could have such a more enjoyable game. (A month or two for skills. -Properly checking balance takes time.)

The only thing that would have actually taken much time to add on to the game, would be to branch out all of the events in the game. Making them more dynamic, and more life-like. And this, although it does require lots of bug testing to make sure NPCs not glitch into the ground etc… requires little more than some creative storytelling.:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Abridged-Dynamic-Events/

  • Guess what? Most of these I created in several hours after reviewing everything for 3 days or so. All together, I believe it has taken me a total of a month to go over all of these. And I did so while working several jobs, having a social life, and playing other games because I got bored of Guild Wars 2. I have even used basic editors to create maps to test the basic function of the maps. The combat obviously took much longer because it takes much more balance. But postponing launch even a week, could have meant so much more content that would have made the game SO much better. SO much less repetitive. SO much more enjoyable.

Not trying to hate on you. Just saying: Way more could have been done, very easily.

To Bluestone,
“On the point about new skills for each weapon, it kinda defeats the purpose of having the different types of weapons.”

  • Exactly. Weapons no longer limit you. You can play the same roles, but how you want to play them is now up for grabs.
  • The whole point of this is to make it so that Weapon does not equal role. So that player chooses Race, which equals look. Player chooses Profession to equal playstyle. Play chooses role freely without being forced to use a weapon.

Many players despise having to not use their favorite looking weapon just because they NEED a specific weapon just to perform a role.Other, simply want to break out of the “If you want this, you must be this” idea. Guild Wars 2 started to break out of this by making all professions equal (for the most part) in meaning that you could make a team of any combination of players and still be effective.

What the game still lacks however, is players ability to be who and what they want to be. The current system in place still drastically limits a players ability to be free.

I hope this cleared things up for you.

Profession = Styles how you perform any role.
Weapon = Styles how you can play a specific role of your choosing.

You would be able to use condition for any weapon. Damage for any weapon. You have now opened the doors for many more hours of enjoyable play, creative skillbars, more-fun-to-commentate-during-sPvP players and you have enabled and empowered players to be unique. Which I feel, is the single most important part in any game.

Ditton,

  • No. I want Guild Wars. :P Go back to your social media that contains no skills at all. (Second Life) xD Please do not make dim-witted accusations that you know nothing about.

Btw, even without playing WoW for more than a trial, I can tell you that the game has FAR more than 58 skills. The bar itself is like, what… 30? Please do not make ignorant posts. Keep it productive. Thanks.

  • You can change weapons at any time. Just bring them in a bag. Cooldowns can be reduced by runes. Both of your problems have now been solved.

If you have any feedback that is actually productive, feel free to post it. Do not waste space trying to insult me or other players.

(I really do not take kindly to insults. Especially when the insult contains no constructive criticism. You are more than welcome to say that my idea is stupid, that you hate it. But do not assume that you know something. Do not assume that making a snide remake empowers you in any way. Because it does not. And yes, I take it as my personal responsibility to shoot down people trying to troll. Because there are way too many people in this day-in-age trying to get attention from idiotic or otherwise meaningless posts. Do not insult the time I spend to help other players.)

  • Any further post you make with insults or otherwise useless information, will be ignored. And I strongly suggest that other members do the same.

And just as a note, I have played Guild Wars since release and am a strong supporter of Anet. Even if I feel they have taken a few turns in the wrong direction. I feel that it is my place as a part of this community to provide constructive feedback why I am against them… and will do so. And I can tell by your post, that you obviously have not played Guild Wars 1 or WoW for that matter. So do not use them in an argument and refrain from trying to insult other members with “L2p, go back to WoW.” You look like a kitten.

Robinsiebler,
“I would like to be able to walk hand in hand, or at least side-by-side in sync.”

Hmm. My only thought on that is that placement isn’t exactly the same on each console. For example, in Guild Wars 1. If I run two clients, where one client says I am, and where the other sees me, are completely different. I’m not sure if things have changed for Guild Wars 2. I have no need for a second client and thus have never tried.

I have a couple screenshots of possibly a new bug. Maybe what people call multi-boxing. But it is several rangers, following in a systematic line, patroling the game and killing things they encounter. It is very obvious that it is botty movement compared to players.

As the movements are always the same.

They follow one player, and often get “stuck” when an enemy spawns. After the enemy is dead, they move in a perfectly straight line directly next to the lead player. All of them wear identical clothes and have the same skills it seems. They also, all move in the same exact route and have been repeating that same route for hours.

I would like to email the screenshot, along with a screenshot of a bunch of other botting groups.

Thanks.

This is simple lack of forethought…

Psy,
“It’s a pretty common approach to armor models. If the coolest set of armor was released first some people wouldn’t care about getting the other sets, which is the whole premise in this game.”

Partially untrue.
General speaking, yes. Start armors are usually not as “cool.” But that does not mean that they specifically need to be made ugly in order to obtain that balance. If that is what you were getting at in your original post. If not, that was my misunderstanding.

Yumiko Ishida,
I do strongly support artistic body art. Even if to some that means “sexy” bodies, xD Considering that the characters generally have magic, less armored clothes are fine. As you see, the less magically attuned a character is, the more armor they have.

Magic makes bulky, heavy armor not needed.

The plus side of being magic is that you can get away with showing off what you got. (; Maybe even enchant yourself to add more glow to your complexion.

Examples being Obsidian armor is Guild Wars 1. Which, prestige armors incorporated showing off what you did by tying in what you did to the style of your armor.
