You guys realize that as long as smaller scale combat is happening within the new borderlands areas, its not like 1 server will have 3 buffs for any length of time.

If the servers had a balanced population, you’d definitely be right. But as a matter of fact, most of the times there is one server that can field way more players than the others making it very difficult to take away the bloodlust buff.

I guess we’ll have to see it on the field, and by the way the developer already said there won’t be any additional WvW update until December, but the feeling is that on every match-up except maybe T1 NA there will be 1 server keeping the buff for itself for at least half a day, every single day.

What if the several guilds that have an interest in GvG took a break from WvW for a weekend?

I bet that wouldn’t impact the PPT at all! :-P

All these fights within the community are simply insane. As it’s been stated times and times again, it’s not a matter of GvGers vs WvWers: it’s a matter of having ANet lose a couple of days of development to set up a 2000×2000 map of flat grass with 3 spawn points in it.

The GvG people haven’t been asking for anything more than that.

Yeah that’s not a cheat, that’s very easy to do and can be done by anyone. Will I tell you how to do it? No. Why? Because it gives players in the know an advantage – and I would not give away an advantage.

Any player who abuses a game mechanic on purpose for their own gain instead of reporting it makes the game a lot less enjoyable for the rest of us. In the end, it’ll be only hackers vs hackers.

It’s pointless to start complaining before you can see how the new patch will work.

As far as I’m concerned, and reasoning on the limited information we have at this moment, I think this patch is pure gold and will improve game-play dramatically.

From my programming experience, this is what I expect from this patch:

  1. Nameplates all over the place
    I won’t be running into zergs without even noticing it never again.
  1. Skill lag won’t get worse
    The patch doesn’t change the number of players the server has to handle. The server has always had to handle all of them anyway.
    The patch will just get the server to actually forward its information to our clients, instead of keeping it for itself.
  1. Skill FX won’t kill any computer
    They have never been culled in the first place.

One thing does concern me about nameplates though: that are a bit immaterial (and probably hard for clicky-players to target). Maybe use large class icons in the place of the model (when it is nameplated)?

If the system is tuned correctly you should only see nameplates for enemies that are too far to target anyway.

As far as I understand, your computer will draw apply the anti-culling settings considering also the distance of models from your toon: the nearest ones will be fully-drawn models as usual until the limit is reached, then you get the fallback models at medium range until their limit is reached and only at last you get the nameplates.

As long as your computer is not completely rubbish, you should be fine.

I look forward to play this patch, Habib and his team made me extremely happy today.

WvW Ascended items

You can already easily complete the daily quests while in WvW and use the laurels to buy any piece of ascended gear you want.

That’s how I did and everyone else has been doing it.

If you’re waiting for a solution to instantly get all the gear you need for all of your characters like you do with karma exotics, I think you will wait forever.
Also the PvE people doing fractals every day have to wait weeks for every piece of their gear.

yeah those 15 new guilds JQ got a few weeks back has NOTHING to do with why they are winning now. Nor the fact SoS has lost some.

Remember when SoS was all happy and proud of itself because they successfully trolled with racist comments a guild leader of a well known asiatic guild?

Some can say that karma is a kitten sometimes.

It’s not a secret that guilds wanting to move from SBI never took in consideration SoS. And all the crying now only makes it look even worse.

Like other businesses do, ANet could just credit 880 gems for 10€ instead of 800 and change the amount from time to time on the basis of the current EUR/USD exchange rate and their other hidden costs.

Norn T3 cultural Armour uses stock images, from what i can tell.

Confirmed at least for heavy armor. Worth 120 gold, but the icons are exactly the same of the no-value level-0 items.
You’ve got to be really careful not to salvage the wrong items :-)

Another possible improvement I’d like to see implemented is to remove the fade in animation when a character comes out from stealth / culling.

Just let them just pop out from nowhere as soon as the client knows, please.

I totally agree with the OP… the more time pass the more I feel I’m playing Caste Wars 2.

First, I lose some sweet loot items just because for personal reasons I couldn’t log on in time for the 1-time event and when I did – after around 1 hour of Connection Failed errors – it was over already.

And now I realize I will never manage to get a high FotM level simply because I’ve lost the starting “train” because I was busy exploring the other new content.

Without a cross-server LFG service, that dungeon is just for a few people.
And the most horrible thing the developers have done is to instigate the people to kick out others just because they haven’t unlocked the appropriate difficulty level.

Quite disappointing for a game been described as a naturally social game that encourages casual cooperation among players, instead of rivalry

She says over and over in the blog post that they’ll be adding more Ascended and Legendary items in future updates… You guys are taking one quote out of context and assuming that it means more tiers of progression, as opposed to many more items to fill out the Ascended tier.

In order to accomplish this they had to add ONE new tier. What else could they do? It’s not feasible to change every single exotic item in the game to reflect this new infusion system. Like it or not, you’ll have to progress through a new tier, but nowhere is it stated that there will be items beyond Ascended, merely infusions.

Simple. Anyone can get maxed Ascended gear in the future and compete in WvW on fair ground. Those who want to empower themselves in the hardest PvE content can use infusions to mitigate new PvE combat mechanics.

I can’t be the only one who is reading between the lines and not freaking out over one sentence.

I would totally agree with you but what I read between the lines is that with every new content they will introduce new infusions that I will likely want to link into my gear.
And if I can’t or don’t want to lose my current infusions I will have to get a new items to link them into.

And this would still be a threadmill even if there won’t be any additional gear tiers.

There are multiple types of Infusions and Infusion slots. In November, we’ll introduce Offensive, Defensive, and Omni Infusions of Fine rarity from new Mystic Forge recipes. Infusion upgrade types must be paired with their like slot, with the exception of the rare and versatile Omni Infusions which can be slotted into any type of Infusion slot.

Note she didn’t say Infusions are only for PvE content.

I’m trying to stay positive but I seriously think this, on top of the lacking of updates, is what is going to kill WvW.

I’ve already spent a lot of gold to get my 3 exotic sets and I will have to grind a lot in this new dungeon to stay competitive in WvW. I know many think the difference with exotics is now minimal (even if it’s like a full set of Superior Divinity runes) but as Linsey said this is only the beginning.

When new content after this will be released if you don’t have Ascended gear already you will get behind everyone else, and with every new content release things will probably get worse.

People are leaving WvW in mass to other aspects of the game or other games completely. This is a fact.
Whoever says nothing is wrong at the moment in WvW is either blind or trolling.

So, with everyone QQing about night capping and proposing solutions, I thought I could jump on the train and describe my idea (and sorry if it’s already been proposed and I missed it):

Dynamic queues

At the moment, as far as we players can understand, every WvW map has 500 available slots for each server. These 500 slots are always available regardless of the time of day and this brings imbalance when during the night you have servers with only 100 or 200 people “fighting” 500-people zergs all over the maps.

A dynamic queue system would limit the number of available spots to try to keep some balance between the different factions. So, if the weakest faction can’t bring to the fight more than 100 people, the other 2 servers would be limited to a similar amount of players to keep the fighting fair.

Of course, numbers don’t have to be exact and you could allow for a 20% population bonus or similar.

FAQs

Q: You can’t propose to limit the available spots in a map. I can only play at night and I have the right to play without any population cap BS.
A: Population cap is already a mechanic of the game, by dynamically changing it we only improve fairness.

Q: It isn’t our fault if your server doesn’t have enough people to fight us during the night. Find some oceanic guilds and fill the gaps.
A: I wonder why are you going to WvW in the first place if you enjoy so much fighting against NPCs. The point of PvP battles is to have other players to fight with: if you can’t find any maybe it’s better if you switch the server and join the less populated side for once.

Q: People will exploit this by mass DC-ing when we are about to get a keep.
A: And they would extremely stupid because the dynamic queue system only prevents new players from entering the map, it doesn’t kick anyone out.

Q: Nothing will change because night-cappers will never log off from the map and they will always have max population.
A: We need an exploit-free afk-kicking system, of course. But even if they won’t be kicked they will still eat up their server spots during day time, giving their server a huge disadvantage.

Final words

I still haven’t thought this all through, but I believe this would be reasonable solution to give us fair fights, which is all WvW should be about in my opinion.

Some questions still remain unanswered, like how to handle exploits like what if people use secondary account to log on one of the servers they are fighting against with their main. But this is already a problem with the current design so it won’t be any bad.

What do everyone think? (I would love to hear from ANet too)

I also think an auto-kick method should be implemented for who is AFK-ing to long in WvW.
I often see lot of people simply standing there for a long time near the entrance portals that could make room for active players.

As above… I continued my story line anyway and spent a couple of days thinking I was stupid: where did I met this Apatia? when did I retrieve this orb they’re thanking me for?

My last non-bugged quest was the one where I had to rescue the people in the volcano Syska was supposed to help.

Nvidia GeForce 560 GTX Ti - Any Experience?

I have an overclocked 560 Ti GPU with an i5 3570K CPU and 8gb of RAM and I can run the game on ultra high details except FXAA at Full HD resolution (1920×1080) at around 8o fps.
So fast that I had to activate VSYNC to limit the heat…

In case you want to try, I’m using the unofficially released v305 beta drivers found here:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/devzone/opengl-driver-4.3.html
but I think I had almost the same performance with the v304 drivers.

Oh, not sure if it matters in this case, but I also installed the game on an SSD drive.

Same thing is happening to me. Until last Friday I had a smooth connection and never suffered any lag, now I can see a huge delay when doing actions: e.g. I swing the sword and I can see the effects half a second later, I shoot an arrow and I get unexplicable “Obstructed” messages.

I can’t directly ping the server because it’s blocked somewhere along the path but Windows 7’s perfmon reports 3 connections for gw2.exe to similar IP addresses: 2 are steadily at a 180ms latency but the 3rd is always over 370.
If I use tracert to this 3rd server I can see a 180ms latency until the ping packet is blocked, so I believe the lag is caused by something inside the server farm.

I connect from the other side of the world so I expect to have some lag, but 180 vs 370 ms for servers that I believe are physically next to each other is really strange and usually a symptom that something isn’t working as expected.
